I subscribe to several different subscriptions, which I know isn’t a surprise confession. Sometimes in these subscriptions items I never would have thought to purchase on my own, end up at my house. Even though I adore Elemis Products, I have to admit, I probably wouldn’t have picked up the Muscle Ease Active Body oil on my own. For me sore muscles, just got a dose of IcyHot.
This Elemis Musclease Active Body Oil arrived as part of a Boxycharm box a while ago and for a long time sat unloved on my skincare shelf.
Then I started a new exercise regime which caused most of my muscles to ache. And then I remembered that I had this oil. I thought why not give it a try. I wasn’t sure it would do much, but I had it and thought it might be worth a try.
According to the Elemis website…
Combining the richness of the sea with the power of aroma, this powerful body oil penetrates deep into the skin to help relieve and recharge tired and tense muscles. Infused with a potent blend of Maritime Pine, Sea Buckthorn, Sea Fennel and Rosemary Essential Oil, the powerful formula envelops your body in a calming, uplifting fragrance whilst leaving skin feeling soft and smooth. Ideal as part of a post-fitness program.

Which of course made it perfect for what I was thinking of using it for. The oil is meant to be used post shower. The heat of the shower opens up your pores a bit and lets your skin absorb the oil more readily.

Admittedly the first hurdle was getting the bottle open. I’ll admit, I felt like a bit of a klutz when trying to open it. I thought the entire silver cap came off. It doesn’t. Only the little silver finial twists off. Which is actually quite nice (providing you don’t drop the little finial. I highly recommend opening it before going into the shower and setting the little cap off to the side in a safe place.)The opening is rather small so you can better control the pouring. And truthfully it doesn’t really pour. You sort of shake out a drop or two into your palm. It only really comes out a drop at a time, which really helps you not use too much.

Only a little is really needed and it absorbs fairly quickly into the skin if you are using it right after a hot shower. The bottle is a lovely blue glass. I will be honest, the oil is a bit medicinal smelling. Rosemary and pine are the two dominant scents. While I like rosemary, pine isn’t among my favorites. However despite the scent, this oil really helps to relieve some of the soreness in my muscles after a heavy work out.
It shouldn’t be a surprise given the list of active ingredients. Maritime Pine, during a clinical trial in Germany, was proven to improve skin hydration and elasticity in women.

Sea Buckthorn has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce swelling. Sea Fennel contains vitamin C and E, it will brighten and hydrate the skin and Rosemary Essential oil hydrates the skin, which helps to control oil production. It also provides an antibacterial surface for the skin, keeping acne at bay.
It also shouldn’t be a surprise that I like it. I have yet to find an Elemis product that didn’t work for me. Elemis is one of those brands that has never let me down. And this Musclease Active Body oil is no exception. I wouldn’t have purchased it on my own, and I didn’t expect to like it, however it has now become a staple in my post workout routine and it a product that I would definitely repurchase.
