Good afternoon my darlings. And Happy Valentine’s day. I hope you are having a good one. Ours is going to be a pretty quiet one all things considered. My babydoll’s one request was that tonight not be a vegetarian dinner. In general we have been eating meat only once a week (typically Friday nights) with the rest of the week more vegetarian. Tonight however we will be having porkchops. I’ve actually got the chops settled in a marinade in the fridge. I put the marinate together this morning because sitting in the fridge today with the marinade will be enough, but I kind of wish that I put the marinade together last night. It is a simple one actually,

Pork chops in a bag with 1/2 cup apple brandy, 1/2 cup balsamic Vinegar, 1/3 cup Dijon mustard, one crushed garlic clove, 1 tsp grated ginger. Then you shake it up in the bag so everything is properly coated and then place it in the fridge for the day. At night, you pan roast the chops in a cast iron skillet and put the marinate in a pot and boil it until it reduces to a thick kind of syrupy consisted. I’m serving it with an apple compote and almond roasted green beans.

While it is a recipe we’ve used for years and enjoy it, I tend to make the marinade at night. I forgot last night so i made it his morning. While the time will be fine, I have to say the apple brandy was quite pungent and it felt very wrong to be pouring it while the morning coffee was brewing it. When it cooks up the alcohol will cook out, but it was a very potent alcohol scent to start the morning with. It made the morning feel less like a work day Monday morning and a bit more holiday esque. So note to self, if the marinate had alcohol in it, mix it up at night, not first thing in the morning.

Other than that the day has been going really well. We were supposed to have a cold front move through, but it never did. I think it was delayed and will be here the end of the week. As a result the mornings are chilly but once noon hits we have about 40-50 degree temps which are fantastic for walking. So I am having to remember not to overdo it and exercise restraint. it helps that at the moment my work load is pretty heavy so I don’t have the time to go crazy with the walking. Who would have thought that was a benefit? Over all, this Monday is going pretty well.

Today’s Look:

Primer: The Porefessional Primer from Benefit Cosmetics

Foundation: Natasha Denona Transformatte Foundation (currently on sale for half off)

Bronzer/Blush/Highlight/powder: PUR 4-in-1 Skin perfecting Powders Palette

Eyeshadow: Juvia’s Place The Nubian Palette

Mascara: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Lips: UOMA Badass MF Lip Liner in Angelou

Okay today was an interesting makeup look. I actually really like how it turned out. It was mostly dominated by the new foundation. I know it isn’t technically new but it arrived in a subscription box and I thought, Oh I need to test that out,’ then it went into the drawer and I forgot about it, so this was actually my first use. With new foundations I like to start my first day with face products I am comfortable using and know how they perform. So I went for my long term favorite primer, the porefessional. After many years of use I know how it works. (And yes I will be trying out the foundation without a primer to see how it performs on it’s own but the first day I like to give it it’s best chance and so I use a good primer. I also went for the simple all in one palette. I like this Pure Palette and all four powders work well and easily so it wasn’t something i had to think about.

So then I applied the foundation. I some how expected it to be thicker. I was not expecting it to be a serum like consistency. So that was a bit of a surprise. However I actually like serum like foundations so I was fine with it post surprise. Today I used my favorite foundation brush to apply it (the 999 Master Blender from Bdellium Tools it is $16 and one of the best foundation brushes I have ever used.) It worked really well and I love the effect. I am going to try a sponge application tomorrow, just to see how it works with different tools as well as different products. Thus far though, this foundation is fantastic. The first application went well, it is wearing beautifully and I really like the way my skin looks with it on. It isn’t heavy or cakey which is nice. I’ll clearly be using this for the next week or two to see how it performs in various settings, but this first use is quite positive. I’m feeling a little sad that I forgot about this for so long.

I had two eyeshadpw palettes come in with subscription boxes today. One is a Huda Beauty palette and the other is from Juvia’s place. While the Huda Beauty is stunning, I already know I like the formula so I decided to test out the Juvia’s Place palette first. It is the Nubian and features predominantly browns and bronzy tones, so for me it is kind of my everyday shadows. On first glance I wish it had one really bright white tone for the inner corners of my eyes but over all it is a really attractive looking palette. And then I used it and wow. It performed really well today. There is no lid primer and I went in with mostly the matts (I used a shimmer on the inner corner.) The shadows applied well with little fall out and blended beautifully. I only blended two mattes and then added the shimmer but it worked really well for me. It was effortless. I think i am really going to enjoy testing out this palette.

Paired with the Eyeko Mascara I think it was a fantastic look. And I do love this Eyeko Mascara. Eyeko used to be my go to eyeliner place and then when I stopped wearing as much eyeliner, I kind of forgot about the brand. Now I am just going to have to shift to thinking about their mascaras because I really do like this one.

Today was also a first use of the UOMA lip liner. I decided to go with just the lip liner today and I have to say it is really interesting. It isn’t a very creamy formula, but I love the color. I actually think it will pair well with one of my favorite MAC lipsticks, which I’ll try out another day. The pencil is a bit stiffer than I like but it did mean I was able to draw a really fine line. And despite not being creamy it sits well on the lips and while dryer than a lipstick it hasn’t dried down to the point where my lips feel desiccated. And because it is not as creamy it is not leaving lip prints everywhere so it is staying on the lips longer. I know I was irritated that it was a single lip liner as an item in a premium box when I received lip liners three months running, but I am actually really liking this lip liner.

Over all for me, today was a great makeup day. It isn’t flashy (and with a neutral palette it probably won’t be during testing) but everything worked beautifully. Both the Juvia’s Place eyeshadow formulas and the Natasha Denona Foundation performed better than I expected. I think testing them out is going to be a real joy. what a great way to start a Monday.
