A different kind of sheet mask from Depology

Depology recently sent over a package of skincare items for me to try out and review for you, including the Depology Derma Face Sculpting Mask. As always even though these items were gifted to me, my opinions are my own. I know many of you are thinking, oh another sheet mask. However the Depology Derma Face Sculpting Mask is a little bit different. For one thing, It doesn’t go over your entire face, it goes under your chin.

According to the Depology Website

The Dēpology Sculpting Mask is infused with essential ingredients to tone and firm your chin, jowl and jawline. Designed with a soft yet firm textured cloth, this mask can be worn whilst getting ready in the morning. This mask hydrates while visibly lifting and firming your skin. See a tighter jawline, jowl and chin from the first use. For an extra glow, we recommend using our chin sculpting masks in combination with our popular hydrogel under eye patches.

Full Ingredient’s List: Water, Algae (Seaweed) Extract, Glycerin, Anthocyanins, Sodium Polyacrylate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E).

Also on their website is a very handy (and detailed) article about why the skin of the jaw sags and why jowls can appear as we age as well as other issues to consider in thinking about your skincare elements. I always find their articles quite informative actually.

Depology very kindly sent over enough masks for a two week trial (use one every other day) so I can try them for longer to see how they perform, but this is a first use post. As I said this mask is a little bit different. It goes under the chin. I’ll admit I was worried that gravity would exert itself upon the mask and as I wore the mask it would grow looser until by the time the 20-30 minute wear time recommended was over, it would no longer be touching my chin. So I took it out of the package with some skepticism.

first applied

The Depology Derma Face Sculpting Mask is folded in half and the package recommends being careful when taking it out. I expected extra serum, but there isn’t any, the outer layer feels dry and soft. Thee is a waxed paper backing on the cloth mask. The careful when removing line applies to the fact that the mask is quite sticky. I unfolded it from the pouch and peeled the backing off. The mask does want to stick you itself, so just don’t let it fold back over.

it covers pretty far back (sorry there was no way to take the pic without looking up my nose.

To apply I smoothed it over my chin and the sides of my jaw. I then had to stretch it to go over my ears. I was worried that because it was so sticky it would pull at my hair (which it didn’t do at all). However once applied there was no fear that it would slide anywhere. The mask stayed exactly where it was placed. I set the timer for thirty minutes and then went about my morning. I had a very full inbox to plow through and it was very easy to forget completely that i was wearing the mask at all. It didn’t shift, it didn’t sage, it didn’t sting and there was no scent detectable with the mask at all.

It did feel a little cool against the skin so it was clear that it was doing something, but there was no mess or comfortability when wearing the mask. It was quite honestly easy to spend thirty minutes wearing the mask with no problems.

removal was simple and easy

At the end of the thirty minutes I returned to the bathroom to remove the Depology Derma Face Sculpting Mask. The mask itself hadn’t changed. It covered my jaw and neck just as it has when I applied it. I was actually pleased with how far back on my lower jaw it covered. It reached all the way back to my neck. I thought this might be the one uncomfortable part, but the soft material contoured to the skin so there was no discomfort no matter how I moved my head during the thirty minutes.

I was worried though about the sticky factor. Would the stickiness that kept the mask in place over the thirty minutes prove difficult to remove? Would it be painful to peel off or leave a sticky residue behind? No in all cases. The mask peeled off easily with no residue left on my hair or skin. There was no pulling and nothing left behind.

Before the lask on the left, post mask on the right. While not a huge difference after one use, there is a slight one and to the touch I can feel the difference. It is a promising start to the trial

The description of the mask claims that there will be results after just one use. In appearance, there isn’t much difference between my before and after from the first use. Which is fine, this is skincare, not magic. However the feel of my skin is nice. The skin feels nice and hydrated and well cared for. I am very guilty of ignoring this part of my face when applying my skin care. I apply products on the face and then I will apply them on the neck and upper chest, but often I will skip under my jaw. Having a product concentrate on that section of my face is not a bad thing. While any changes after a single use are visibly small, the feel of the skin is noticeably improved to the touch. I will certainly enjoy spending the next two weeks trying out these Depology Derma Face Sculpting Masks and look forward to seeing the change that two weeks of use makes.
