Let’s talk Aveda Nutri-plenish

Aveda is a hair care brand that I have often turned to in the past. It has been around a long time and it is one of the ones that in my brain I think of as kind of a standard. It has been around since the 1970s and tends to feature good reliable products. They are products I remember my mother and Aunts using when I was a child.

However I don’t tend to purchase them for myself when i go and pick up products. As I am going through all of my hair care products to try out and use up the sample sizes I came across this Neuti-plenish Leave in conditioner from Aveda.

To be honest, I picked it up thought “Oh I know i like that,’ and set it to the side figuring that I had already tried it out. Then I thought about it and realized that i hadn’t. The fact that the bottle was still sealed was my first clue. Then i tried to figure out if I tried it at another time and this was just another sample size I planned to use. I couldn’t remember and so I rolled it into rotation.

According to the Aveda website

Lightweight leave-in conditioning spray hydrates and replenishes hair for 72 hours while detangling and protecting from thermal styling up to 450° F. Naturally derived UV filter helps protect hair from the drying effects of the sun.

A pretty simple basic description and to be honest that is what this product is. Simple and basic. Is it good? Yes. It makes my hair shiny and well nourished. Both of which I would expect from a leave in conditioner. Does it detangle? Yes, it is a fairly good detangling product. Is is the best detangler i have used? No, the Mane Club’s One Hit Wonder is a much better product in keeping my hair detangled. But it does work as a decent detangler. It is also a decent heat protecting spray.

And I think that is one of the reasons that I had a hard time with writing a review for this product. Aveda is a standard for a reason. Their products work reasonably well and all of their products work reliably well. I’ve never had one that I’ve tried that didn’t do a decent job at whatever it claimed to be designed for. At the same time I have never used an Aveda product and been blown away by how well it performed. They never fail, but they are never going to be my first choice.

The scent of this product is somewhat nostalgic for me and reminds me of large family events when i was a child and all the women were getting ready at the same time. It has that 1980s I need a good hair day scent to it. It is so much a part of my background memories I have a hard time breaking it out into anything else. It is slightly sweet but with a sort of herbal medicinal back note.

It is a mild scent and not a bad one, however it is not a scent I would choose for my own hair care. Aveda is a good solid reliable brand. I love their ethos and their reliable nature. It is a staple, like having a bag of rice in the pantry. I know when i reach for an Aveda product it will do a decent job. This Aveda Nutri-plenish leave in conditioner is no exception. It is a decent product. There are just products out there that do a better job and that I would reach for first.
