Weekly Weight: 214.2 lbs

I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped on the scale this morning. To be honest, I was just hoping to hold my own. With the weather flipping from warm to cold, snow, ice and a seasonal cold appearing and keeping me from walking, my thoughts when stepping onto the scale this week was just to hope not to have gained.

A loss was thrilling and very unexpected. I’ll admit, I got off the scale, let it zero out, and then stepped back on it to double check. The measurements stayed the same. I know, the world does not revolve around the number on the scale, but it is nice to see positive progress. It makes the effort seem worth while.

I also think the long walks of Wednesday and Thursday helped as well. when the weather and my sinuses cleared, I went on longer than average walks. To be fair, those were less about getting my exercise in and more about stretching my legs and getting some fresh air into my lungs. I’ve noticed that as I have switched more towards the walking trail and less towards the gym, when I have a long stretch of time inside without walking I feel cooped up.

I also get a bit fidgety because i am used to simply moving more now, but even when I use the weights and work out indoors, I find I really miss that out door time in the fresh air. I think it was less of a problem in other months as even when the weather was bad i still had to deal with various garden chores so there was not a lot of days with no time spent out doors.

I t just wasn’t anything I actually expected to happen.

Although, it is just one more item on the list that I didn’t expect to have happen when I started to exercise. I really need to put together a post listing the top ten things I didn’t realize incorporating regular exercise would do. Perhaps i will work on that over the weekend. For now, I will just say I was pleasantly surprised by this week’s loss.

The Stats:

Starting Weight: 246.0 lbs

Last Week’s Weight: 215.4 lbs

This Week’s Weight: 214.2 lbs

Lost this week: 1.2 lbs

Lost thus far: 31.8 lbs

And so we press onward into Friday and beyond. They are predicting rain later tonight so today, there will definitely be at least one long walk.

Weekly Weight: 215.4 lbs

The Scale: January 7th, 2022

Good morning my darlings. What a mess it is out there. Most of the world looks like it has been encased in glass. And honestly the afternoon doesn’t look like it is going to get much better. Yesterday’s power was spotty almost as if the powerlines were sending out Morse code messages. Twenty minutes out equals a dot and forty minutes out is a dash.

I am not fluent enough in Morse Code to know exactly what was being said but I like to think a rough interpretation would be: Help, this Ice is too heavy for me to carry.

We ended up losing power for a few hours sometime in the night, but it was back on in the morning and all the clocks were flashing at us. I think it may be the first time all of our clocks were showing the exact same time.

But you didn’t tune in for the weather report, you came for the weight report. The first of the new year. If you have been following along then you know that I took December off from the scale. It was a gift to myself and a kindness to others. While I didn’t plan to go completely bonkers, I wasn’t going to let concerns over my calorie count dominate the holidays. I was going to enjoy being with friends and family and let the weight take a back seat. Especially as celebrations were less through video cameras this year than last.

Over all I did fairly well. My last weight post with the scale in November was 212.0 so there was a bit of a gain over the holidays, but it wasn’t too devastatingly bad. And to be fair, the treats I did indulge in, were the sorts of treats that only come around once a year. They aren’t everyday things. I think that was my biggest fear. That I would use the rich holiday foods to start indulging in everyday items. You know the sort of thing…

After a wedge of that baked brie with apricot jam, surely a candy bar won’t actually matter.

But I am happy to say that didn’t happen. I stuck to small portions of the special holiday treats and did not let them lead me to indulgences that are available year round. I’m not saying that a wheel of brie coated in apricot jam and then wrapped in prosciutto and puff pastry is in any way diet food (which is why there was a gain over the holidays) but it isn’t something I typically make on a Wednesday evening either.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind having it more often because it is delicious. I just know I shouldn’t. So we are starting fresh with the stats. while I will still list my original starting weight as a reminder (and encouragement), today’s weight is where we start off 2022.

The Stats:

Starting Weight: 246.0 lbs

This week’s weight (and the start of 2022): 215.4 lbs

While I am happy with the healthier aspects I’ve built into my life and understand that stress and elements well beyond my control took a toll on my weight loss plans, I feel that I now have a better handle on things. And I have a good feeling about this year’s weight loss. I look forward to chipping away at that number and hope to see a significantly smaller one at the end of this year. More important than the number though, I’ve figured out what I need to be healthy and happy, and that, more than the number on the scale, is my ultimate goal.

Its a Peppermint-tastic Holiday bundle from Native

I know I have brought this up more than once. In fact I have a tendency to rant about this every holiday season. I love peppermint. I also hate spearmint. Yet somehow spearmint gets to dominate most of the calendar while peppermint is relegated to the holiday season.

Is that fair?

Is that right?

Is it some sort of conspiricy by the anti-peppermint brigade?

Possibly. However much I might wish it, peppermint seems to have a firm association with the holidays. So while it is lacking in the rest of the year, once December hits, I go a little peppermint crazy. Last year I tried the Candy Cane Body wash from Native and loved it. However by the time I went through the bottle, the scent had already been taken off the shelves and the Holiday scent was no more.

So this year i stocked up. I decided to order not one but three bottles of the Peppermint scented Candy Cane body wash from Native.

Okay technically I meant to order only two, but I accidentally hit three.

While I was there I decided that in addition to stocking up, I was going to give a few other peppermint treats a try. So I ordered the Deodorant, shampoo and conditioner to try along with the body wash.

I know, it is the peppermint-tastic time of the year.

The body wash, which I tried last year, foams well and gives a really good clean. It’s scent is strong when the water is hot and teaming up the shower, and it does leave the bathroom with a bit of a minty fresh feeling. The scent isn’t all that long lasting though. with the fading of the steam from the bathroom, the scent fades. The scent also only remains on your skin for about an hour before fading. Which is probably for the best. While I like the scent, I probably don’t want to run around smelling like a peppermint stick all day.

However if the body wash was available year round, I would consider making it a repeat purchase through out the year. I just really like peppermint. And their body wash has a nice formula in general. I am also partial to their cucumber and mint, especially in the summertime. For over all moisturizing of the skin, I am still an Olay body wash person though. I have to add more body lotion post shower with the Native than I do with the Olay, but I consider the peppermint worth it.

The shampoo and conditioner were interesting. I have never tried any shampoo or conditioner from Native before. Generally I stick to their Deodorants and occasionally a body wash. It lathered well, rinsed clean and left my hair shiny and soft. I still used a leave in conditioner afterwards, but it was a good shampoo and conditioner set. It cleans without stripping and my hair felt nice. I also really like the pumps on the bottles. Is it my favorite shampoo and conditioner?

No, but it is decent. Especially if you use a small drop of leave in conditioner after the shower. I’m currently using the CHI Silk Infusion, which I absolutely love. It just needs a tiny drop to work through the hair and my hair is soft and silky smooth.

I don’t think that I will purchase the Native Shampoo and Conditioner throughout the year, and I don’t think i will stock up on it. I do think that come next Christmas i will probably purchase it again. The peppermint scent is nice, but again fades as the hair dries. It is lighter in scent than the body wash. It is a shampoo and conditioner set that works well enough that I don’t mind using it, but not well enough that I want to use it all the time. For me this is a holiday treat specifically because of the peppermint.

And then we come to the most peppermint-tastic of all, the Native Candy Cane Deodorant. I like Native Deodorants in general. They are just a good product. The only issue i have with some of them is in regards to scent. Sometimes they have almost no scent, other times they are powerfully scented. The Candy Cane Deodorant is powerfully scented. It goes on minty and as you move through out the day you will occasionally catch light scent flutters of mint. Personally I like it. And if it was on off year round, I would purchase the scent year round. of the Native Deodorants that I have tried, it is my absolute favorite. Because it is my first time with this scent, I did not stock up. I will use this one well into January though. Once it is done, I will decide if I want to stock up next year or not, but for now, this is the most peppermint-y of them all. It is the only one that really has any peppermint scent after the initial application. At the moment, I love it. How much I love it will remain to be seen when it reaches the end of it’s life.

For now, I am reveling in the peppermint scent. Since I already knew I liked peppermint and was planning to stock the body wash, I went with full sizes, however, they do have trial kits so you can try all of the scents as well. I have no association with the brand, but the links will take you to the site. While many of their products can be found at Target (and that is where I generally pick up my deodorant) not all Target’s carry all the scents and it is a little cheaper on line. My Target didn’t have the deodorant or body wash when I looked. It did have the shampoo and Conditioner in Candy Cane though. I’m not sure if that is just how the stocking goes or if it is a store by store thing. Since I was ordering the body wash, it was actually cheaper to order from the site.

So that my darlings is my take on the super fabulous Candy Cane Scent from Native. Some are going to prove only seasonal products that I use when they become available and forget about the rest of the year, others are going to be ones I want year round and will miss when they are gone. It is good to know which is which.

The Daily: December 6th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. It is a cold dreary and drizzly day here where I am. The temperatures have plummeted and rain is predicted throughout the day. Possibly even into tomorrow. While I don’t actually mind walking in the rain, this is the cold nasty sort of rain that makes my bones ache. And as the temperature shift has already got my nose sniffiling, I think I am going to give the walking trail a pass.

In addition, I am pretty sure that with yesterday’s rain paired with todays, the trail is flooded. While I may tempt walking in the rain, I am not wading through flood waters of unknown depth.

And so it is indoor workouts in the sunroom today. Even if the sunroom is not so sunny. The weights and yoga mats are still there so I am good to go. Actually this morning was good for stretching, even if I did have to sniff a lot while I did the work out. Everything was fine until I was asked to lean forward.

Shop for weight lifting supplies including grips, wraps and supports at ProsourceFit.

Not a good move with a runny nose.

But I got some movement in and can get some work in ahead of the upcoming holidays which is nice. Because I am not going out today.

Actually I’m not putting makeup on today either. Part of that is because of my stuffy nose. Any makeup I put on my face will either be rubbed off by the tissue or run when I punch my eyes shut for a sneeze. However one of the main reason that I am not putting anything on today is that my skin looks and feels really nice.

No makeup, no filters. Just feeling like showing off good skin today.

This pic is me without any makeup. I know, my eyes are a bit on the puffy side. That really can’t be helped. Although I will be putting some Klorane Soothing Eye patches on soon in an attempt to do a little depuffing. And today’s sheet mask for later this afternoon will be the Vitamasque Hydrate with Blue Agave.

But at the moment I am just really happy with my skin. I’m still using the trial sized travel products and as they run out I’m going to have to figure out which ones are really pulling their weight so that I can try them out in the full size. But I will get to that on Friday (the products are still the same ones listed on Last Friday’s Skincare line up, if you are curious).

I just liked my skin enough that today I felt like showing it off, puffy eyes and all.

But for now it is back to work for me. I’m hoping to get far enough ahead so that I can take off extra time for the holiday and take advantage of any good weather that may appear. My plan is to work extra hard on the bad weather days to make up for me sneaking off outside when the weather is nice. It hardly ever balances out, but hope does spring eternal. And so back to work I go. I hope the rest of your Monday is simply fabulous.

Weekly Weight: 211.8 lbs

Good morning my darlings. It’s time again for the weekly weigh in. well, the good news is that the scale didn’t say 212 this morning. And it is less than 212 so that is progress. A loss is better than a gain, so I am okay with that. However I realized something this week.

I realized that while I intend to keep up with my exercising, for the next month there will be so many interruptions to my meal planning that weekly weigh ins may actually do more harm than good. Since I am going to be out of town next Friday, I was planning to take off next week’s weigh in. I think however I may not weigh myself until New Years.

I know, there is the fear that not routinely weighing myself for the next few weeks is going to help me get off track and let me pack on the pounds. I am aware that the scale is a tool that helps me focus on losing the weight.

However I think that with no meal plan and lots of once a year foods coming up on the menu, a focused monitoring may actually drive me crazy. I think it might actually cause me to add angst to my holiday season and to possibly add weight through stress and stress eating. I am still monitoring what I eat, controlling my portion size, even if I can’t control meal time and menu options.

While I talk about the items I plan to purchase during the sales, I think this holiday season the gift I am really going to give myself is the gift of kindness. Getting on the scale when I know things are not in my control, is not kind. In fact it is downright mean.

I know there is the possibility that even with my monitoring and workouts I may gain a few pounds over the holidays.

But you know what? That’s okay.I don’t want to gain weight., I still want to lose it, and I will still be working out. But if i don’t lose anything between now and January first, I am okay with that. If I gain a few pounds between now and January first, I will be okay with that.

Okay I won’t be happy about it, but i am not going to beat myself up about it. I’ll just get back into menu planning, regular meals and take the weight off. Slowly and steadily as I have been doing up to this point.

During the holiday season I run around trying to make everything perfect. I pick out gifts that I know people will like and try to make certain everyone has as happy a holiday as possible. Often I forget that I need to be happy too. So I am giving myself the gift of kindness and while I will still post each friday about my efforts to stay on track and continue my workouts during the holidays, I will be skipping the weigh in until the beginning of the new year.

A few weeks of not monitoring my weight won’t kill me and who knows, it may just end up being the best present ever.

The stats:

Starting weight: 246.0 lbs

Last Week’s Weight: 212.0 lbs

This week’s weight: 211.8 lbs

Lost this week: 0.2 lbs

Lost thus far: 34.2 lbs

And so with this morning’s weigh in recorded,. I will be stepping away from the scale for a few weeks. I am happy that at least I am stepping away at a loss. Admittedly it isn’t much of a loss, but it is still a loss. I’m good with that. And as nervous as I am about not stepping on the scale each week, there is a part of me that is looking at all of the upcoming gatherings and is relieved that I have taken that pressure off. I think the relief means that this is a very good decision right now, regardless of the outcome.

Whatever you are doing this holiday season, what ever your plans and goals I hope that you too recognize that everynow and again you need to treat yourself with a little bit of the kindness that I know you show to others.

Weekly Weight: 212.0 lbs

I am beginning to notice a trend here. It may be too early to tell, but it seems that my scale has decided that a number isn’t worth giving if you can’t give it two weeks in a row. Last week, my weight was 212 as well. The two weeks prior it was 213.

If the next two weeks end up being 211 then there will definitely be some sort of spooky trend going on.

Not that I’m actually complaining. The weight is going down. Not as fast as I would like, but then when does it ever. At this time of year, I am pretty happy as long as it isn’t a gain.

And honestly, expecting a loss today would be a bit of a surprise. While I put in a great deal of effort this week in the walking and such, yesterday was the retail Battle Royale.

eMy babydoll and I took the last of our holiday shopping lists to the stores and took advantage of as many veteran’s day sales as possible. I think we actually managed to knock out the last of our gift list actually. I’m sure there will be a last minute ‘I can’t believe we forgot…’ foray, but at the moment all the names have been checked off the list. Soon we will start filtering them into the postal system, but that is a next week sort of project. And a lot of our list was orderd on line and has already arrived and been sent on. So we are actually pretty good on that score.

I think we ended up with a couple of extra items when we went shopping as well. I know my babydoll picked up something and then had to engage in a battle of wills with an older woman who decided she wanted the item as well. I’m not certain if he bought it because it was on the list or because he picked it up to look at and reached his breaking point when the woman came at him. I was on the other side of the store and only witnessed it from afar. At that point he was pretty much done with shopping so it could be either.

At that point we just went through the checkout line and called it a day.

We also called it a good day for barbeque. I’ll admit, I over ate. In fact i woke up still feeling fairly full so I was just happy that I didn’t actually gain anything. So perhaps the scale staying the same this week is my own fault and not part of a larger trend. we shall have to wait for next week to find out.

The Stats:

Starting Weight: 246.0 lbs

Last Week’s Weight: 212.0 lbs

This week’s weight: 212.0 lbs

Lost this week: 0.0 lbs

Lost thus far: 34.0 lbs

And so into Friday we go, tra, la, la la, la. I can say that despite being Friday and our usual larger meal, I think that due to yesterday’s barbeque feast, tonight might be a lighter meal.

Coming clean and going to Mars…Terre de Mars

I always find body washes to be an interesting category to think about. Like facial cleansers it is an essential part of the body care routine. It isn’t one of the optional items. Bath bombs are nice (sometimes very nice) but they aren’t essential. Post showering body lotions are usually a good idea, but they can be skipped.

Body wash or even just plain soap is, for me, an essential part of my bathing process. without some form of soap or other cleanser, then I simply don’t feel like I got my body clean. Personally I am more of a boxy wash sort of person. I like bar soap to use, but I really hate that soft bottom it gets from even just the trapped moisture when you put it back down. Even it it doesn’t have water in the soap dish, there is a line of soggy soap where the damp soap presses’ on the surface of whatever it is on. Growing up my mom and grandmother used to put bar soap in these open weave knitted bags and you would just use it in the bag. The bag provided the exfoliation for the skin and could be hung up so that the soap didn’t get the soggy line.

Those bags I like but I haven’t been able to find them in forever. So I use body wash. My baby doll likes soap though and doesn’t have that textural issue. While he will occasionally use something like Huron Body Wash, he always falls back to the Dr. Squatch soap. They actually have a holiday deal that I need to look into so I can stock up for him. He will travel with the Huron Body wash since he doesn’t like traveling with soap, but we will need more soap at the house.

But stocking my cabinet isn’t the point at the moment. The Terre de Mars is, so lets see what it has to say for itself…

An organic low-foaming, aromatic and soft cleansing gel suitable for all skin types. Infused with bioactive ingredients such as coffee and rosemary extract and verbena oil tone, purify and protect the skin while Aloe vera nourish and smoothes. Leaves a clean, refreshed and toned skin without drying it.

Terre de Mars Website

Okay, this full sized body wash is 150ml and in US currency is $22. I mention that here because I had a hard time getting to US currency. the Terre de Mars site didn’t like it and I had to find it on Amazon. I think you can still order from the site if you are in the US but it seemed easier to go to Amazon. Normally all of my links tend to go back to the brand’s home page or if there is a site like Lovely Skin (currently has 22% off most items from major brands)or All Beauty (they tend to have different brands from Lovely Skin so I tend to bounce between the two sites) where I tend to buy the product because it is usually a better value, I’ll link it there. Because I don’t know about availability, This is the Terre de Mars Site link and this is the Amazon link. That way you can see both and if you plan to take an official peep you can choose the one you think would work best, or you could compare the two.

Now I am not opposed to spending $22 on a body wash. One of my favorite luxury body washes is from Molton Brown and generally comes in around $30. Actually they just released their holiday scents (as well as gift sets and advent calendar) The holiday scent I want is the Muddled Plum Bath gel ($35). I picked up a sample of it last year because plum seemed like it could end up being to stick sweet smelling but it was fantastic. That I will probably purchase in the full size this year.

However the brands that can get me to spend that much on body wash are few and far between. Actually Molton Brown is the only one that can, and truthfully, I tend to get the deluxe sample sized sets and work my way through the smaller bottles so i can try out the different scents. They actually have an entire selection of travel sized toiletries collections which I like picking up, especially before holiday travel. I use Molton Brown as my test of high end products.

On the other end, the drug store end if you will, is Olay Body wash. That is my standard body wash. and actually I set aside my current favorite Olay, Orchid and Black Currant to try out the Terre De Mars. Olay generally costs $7.99. Currently on the site it is on sale for $5.97 if you are looking to stock up on Olay products. Actually the entire site is 25% off right now. (their Regenerist skincare line is quite fabulous as well. Actually this year they have really been killing it. But that is another post)

The Terre de Mars Body wash tends to fall into the middle of these two price ranges. But is there where it’s performance ended up?

The body wash comes out in a clear gel. The scent is a lemon verbena scent. There are other ingredients listed, but it is the lemon verbena that makes its presence felt. I happen to like lemon verbena. It is the scent of my favorite Annmarie Aloe Herb Cleanser. And that is one of my top all time cleansers, partially because I love the scent. And partially because it is a fantastic cleanser. Like the Annmarie Skincare, there is aloe in this body wash as well.

Unfortunately I don’t like it as much. Perhaps it is because it doesn’t foam up as much (it is a low foaming body wash) but it felt as though the aloe remained on the skin in a thin film rather than nourishing and sinking in or simply washing off.

The Olay has many moisturizing agents in it, but it doesn’t leave that film behind. While I like the scent of this body wash, I didn’t like that film and found myself reaching for my body scrub and/or exfoliating bath scrubber pad more often because of it. And then because I was exfoliating more I ended up using more body lotion when i got out of the shower. Which is fine, I had several I needed to use up and clear out. But the scrubbing made the post shower body lotion a necessity rather than an extra.

For me it was a great scent but I don’t think i would purchase this body wash again. It comes down to the level of clean you feel, and I simply wasn’t feeling it. For me it was the light film left on my skin. It was a light film, so if that doesn’t bother you, perhaps you would like it. The scent is gorgeous. I just can’t take the film. And so it may fall in between the two ranges of products in price, but it isn’t one I will purchase again.

The Daily: November 8th, 2021

Oh my darlings this weekend was an interesting one. It has now reached a cold enough temperature that the frost has killed off the last of our plants. I know, it sounds strange to say, but last weekend, we wicked the last of the paprika peppers. We now have fabulous paprika for the upcoming winter, but last weekend was the last of their growth cycle. They were the last garden hold out. We have them in a side garden that gets full sun all day long. However most of that bed is taken up with a tangle of bind weed and greek oregano. I harvested as much oregano as possible and now with the peppers finally done, we spent this weekend going crazy with the pitchfork. At this point the bindweed is so thick a matt of roots that even though we dug up as much as we could we are still going to have to bury them.

Once the plants were out, cardboard was spread to smoother and a thick layer of much was added to the top of the cardboard. The mulch will rot over the winter, as will the cardboard and we will put fresh dirt over it come spring and start planting from there. Hopefully it will help. So I spent Saturday with a pitchfork. And then Saturday afternoon I ended up getting my Vaccine Booster shot. I wanted to be all topped up before thanksgiving travel.

I don’t know if it was the extra garden work or the booster shot, but I was just an achy mass of pains on Sunday. I suspect the gardening was actually to blame. Regardless of the cause, Sunday I was a couch potato. I went on to Paramount + and finished the last available season of Why Women Kill. Then I watched all of Evil and for good measure topped it off with Ghosts. I highly recommend all three shows. For different reasons obviously. But they are all good. Ghosts is a bit predictable, but still funny.

Today we are back to normal with walks and using more of my legs than my arms for exercise. I know, I need to work my upper body more, but this week, my upper body is mostly just recovering.

Today’s Look: Primer: Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Serum Foundation

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer

Blush No 7 Damson Mist blush

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: N0 7 Pink Blossom Trio

Mascara: Pretty Vulgar The Feathers Mascara

Lips: Perricone MD No Makeup Makeup Lipstick

Today in case you missed the trend was a No 7 kind of day. It was sort of an accident. I love the No 7 Foundation and the pressed powder. Both are staples of my routine. But to be honest I usually use more skincare from No 7 then makeup. However when I got the vaccine booster I did so in a Walgreens. I hadn’t been in a Walgreens for a while and after my shot i had to walk around for 15 minutes to make certain there were no side effects. So I shopped. I ended up picking up the eyeshadow and blush.

Partially I did so because I hadn’t tried them before and was curious. The eyeshadow I actually picked up with travel in mind. These three colors are ones I use quite often and I thought that if they worked well then I might just use it for thanksgiving travel. It is small and easy to slip into the bag. This is my first experience with No 7 Shadows.

This trio isn’t highly pigmented, the darker shade is more of a smoke than I expected. There is almost no fall out though so I could start with primer and foundation and work my way out, which is kind of my preferred method of application. I sometimes will do eyes first, but I really don’t like to. There is no real reason it is just habit. and years of applying primer and foundation first. With this shadow that wasn’t an issue. Thus far it is wearing well and I think I am going to play around with it. It will be interesting to see how I like playing with a three pan palette. And how it feel about it as the week progresses. Right now I am pretty pleased with it. As the pans were relatively inexpensive, if I still like to at the end of the trial, I may be popping back to Walgreens for other shades.

Everything else on the list today is something I’ve used before and loved. This particular Perricone MD lipstick is new, but I it is a repurchase item rather than a new to me one. I’ve had this product before (in many shades) and will always repurchase it. The only thing you have to watch is the expiration date on these. The lip product is fabulous, but when it says it is expired, then it is pretty much expired. The expiration date is printed in big bold hard to miss numbers on the bottom of the tube. You may have to work to find the shade, but you can always find that expiration code.

Which is a good thing.

Although the lipstick comes in a heavy duty tube with a cap that screws into place, because of the date, I wouldn’t keep it in my purse. Lip products in my purse tend to be forgotten. While this does travel really well and makes my lips feel soft and hydrated as well as offering a slight tint, I can’t keep it in the purse. But it is a product I enjoy and will continually repurchase. And to be honest, I’ve never had a problem using it up before it expires. It is only when I forget I have it that there is a problem. After the expiration date you can get a coating of white mold on it. Once you see that, do not use. But it is a fantastic product for a low makeup day.

The Daily: November 1st, 2021

November has arrived in all it’s chilly splendor. The last of the potted plants have been brought in and anything left in the garden has been left to overwinter outside. This weekend we are digging up two of the older flowerbeds. Mostly we are chopping all of the tops off, laying down cardboard and then covering it with very rich dirt and mulch. The cardboard will eventually disintegrate but it will smother the growth below before it does die off. It’s a technique called no dig gardening.

It is also a style that puts many of my subscription boxes to good use. The shipping boxes are actually useful for the cardboard barrier. So it’s less waste at the house. Always a good thing. Plus the bindweed has gotten out of control. I think I could dig all the way to China and still not get all of the roots. This Saturday I will be considering that part of my work out. This past Saturday changed over my wardrobe. That’s right my darlings, the short sleeved summer weight garments are all washed folded and put away. Well in the case of several of them, they had to be trashed.

Okay a lot of my t-shirts had to be trashed. This summer was absolutely brutal. And there comes a point where washing may get them technically clean, but they still are so dingy that they are not worth wearing. And many of them had seen too many summers already. I tended to reserve my older t-shirts for summertime walks. And I wore out a lot this summer. Honestly only a handful survived. I was actually shocked by how many needed to go to the rag bag.

In order to secure replacements for next summer, I am actually contemplating the t-shirt Subscription from Smartass and Sass. They have a great regular subscription box but they also have one for just their t-shirts. I checked the size range and it is pretty wide. It’s only $15.95 per month. I always love their slogans and think that it might actually be a fun way to bulk up my t-shirt collection again. They are the soft touch t-shirts too, which I like.

Of course right now I am loving the soft fabrics I get to use in the colder months. In case you hadn’t figured it out, I am a very tactile shopper. I have several garments in my wardrobe that I’m sure the fashion police would cite be for violation of the visual code should they ever see them, but they feel so soft that I just can’t give them up. I try to only wear the most offensive ones around the house though. It saves my neighbors from eyeball trauma.

Admittedly I will have to be replacing some of those items as well. One of my favorite sweaters has a pulled hole in it and needs to go and another fuzzy one had a hole magically appear after getting out of the wash. I hate to loose either of them, but I did see a couple of sweaters on The Gentle Herd Website that I really want So I am kind of taking it as an excuse. Plus The Gentle Herd actually has my size which is really nice.

But such shopping will have to wait until the last of my holiday shopping is done. I have two more things to pick up. One for my brother and one for my mother’s boyfriend. My brother is actually the hardest one. He just moved into a Tiny House a few months ago and has been working on jettisoning anything that doesn’t fit. Finding something he wants, can use and won’t overly clutter his place is somewhat difficult. But I will figure it out. I will purchase it, wrap it and then work on replacing some of my own missing garments.

Sometimes, you have to prioritize.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Benefit Cosmetic Porefessional Primer

Foundation: Ulta Youthful Glow Foundation Serum Drops

Bronzer/Blush/Highlight/Powder: Cover FX Perfection Face palette

Eyeshadow: Little Briar Rose Palette from Storybook Cosmetics

  • in case you are interested, this normally $55 palette is on sale for $15

Mascara: Roen Mascara

Lips M2U Matte Liquid Lip

Today I was happy to have a new primer. I finally finishe the one I was trying to clear out and reached into the primer drawer to pull one out randomly. Today it was the Porefessional. Always a good one to use and a favorite standby.

The foundation I used was the Ulta Serum Drops. I really like it and have just a little bit left to go before this bottle is empty. It is one that I will replace at some point. I’ll probably be rotating it in for the next little bit as I would really like to use it up. It is a great product, I’ve just had it for a while.

The lip I love and really do need more shades of this formula. I will be looking into that as soon as I clear out a few sample sized products and make space. I know resisting lip purchases is not my strong suit but I am trying to hold out. The Roen mascara is good, not spectacular, but good.

Today was mostly about the Cover FX palette and the eyeshadow. With the FX palette I often forget that I have it. I wanted to use it as I am trying to plan my travel bag for thanksgiving. It is one of the contenders as packing it means I don’t have to pack a lot of individual products. It is quite compact. I’m not terribly certain about the blush, but I do like the other products so it is still a contender. I might play around with it and alternate blushes before I make my decision. Even if I do add a blush it saves a lot of space.

Now to the eyeshadow. I know I took this palette out on Thursday and it has been out since (I really need to clean up my dressing table) The reason I used it today is because I realized I always reach for the same shades. I have three blue shades that I never reach for. So I decided today was the day. I love the color blue, but hate blue eyeshadow. Still I tried them. The Dark blue of Prince was kind of patchy but workable in the end. I love the shades Castle and Fairy but in the end I really don’t like the all blue look. I put the bronze Enchanted over them in the middle of the eyelid to sort of break it up. The shades blended well, but I’ll be honest, every time I pass a mirror I think. nope, gotta take off the blue. I think that the blue shimmers I will use as accents, but that matte Blue (Prince) is just killing me. I love the color, just not on my eyes. Blue eyeshadow is just not for me. Honestly though, Prince is the only color in the palette I wouldn’t really use. Which isn’t a bad commentary on a palette’s color story. I am just not a blue shadow person.

Live and learn, huh?

The Daily: October 25th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. The weather here has once again turned lovely, although a bit cooler now that the rain has subsided. The waters have receded from the walking trail and I went on a very long walk this morning. It was fantastic.

Last week I started using the Fitbit to track my walks, food and well basic things. This weekend I looked at last week in review, trying to see what I could do better. While I don’t think step trackers are essential for weigh management, they can be helpful tools.

I actually learned something in looking at my measurements from last week. Apparently, my walks burn more calories than I thought they did. Its actually a good thing, but it means some of my basic calculations for calories in/ calories out are a bit askew. This week I am going to try and see if I can get the balance back to my goal intake/output is. As strange as it sounds, if you don’t eat enough then your body kind of locks on to every calorie it can and weight loss slows down. Keeping everything in balance will hopefully help me out in the long run and hopefully make the weight loss more permanent.

At least that is the goal.

It was a quiet weekend here actually. A lot of weekends are here actually. Most of our going out has been curtailed and so we tend to concentrate on working on things around the house. Of course that is also due to the time of year. In the winter we always spend more time in the house so once the weather turns we start looking at making improvements before the winter really sets in. At the moment we are looking at some new sheets and bedding. Usually we end up ordering such things before Thanksgiving and then put them on the bed when we return from Thanks giving travels as our special, let the holidays begin treat to ourselves.

Admittedly we haven’t done that in a while. we started because we had older sheets so we would pick up a new set as we rotated an old one out of use on the bed. Then for a while we had enough newer sheets. So we stopped buying them (obviously). Now we are down to several sets that need to actually be retired from use, so a fresh set is going to be ordered. Once we can decide on the set. Right now we are in the what do you think of these stage where we each look at options and share what we’ve found until there is one we both like.

It’s a process.

Eventually we will end up with a new set of sheets and hopefully a new duvet cover. Ah the things cold weather stirs up. This week we are also airing out blankets and taking inventory.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay’s Optical Illusion Primer

  • Palette madness is still going on with many palettes still 50% off

Foundation: Purlisse BB Cream

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

  • now refillable

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light

Eyeshadow: The Tuscany Palette from Nomad

Lips: Zoeva Lip crayon in Rhea and Tarte Maneater Plumping gloss

Today was the quick and easy look as I planned to spend the bulk of the day working at my computer. And to be fair, beyond my walk, that is where I have been today. And I’ve gotten a lot done actually. I’m actually quite pleased with myself.

The Primer is a discontinued one I am trying to use up and send on it’s way. I am hoping that this will be it’s last week of use, but there is the possibility it might spill into next week.

I love the Purlisse BB Cream formula. It blends beautifully and feels absolutely weightless. It is one of my favorite BB Creams. I know, I have said this a lot. The fact is, it remains true. The Trestique Bronzer and bareminerals blush are quick and easy to use and always work out well for me, so I went with them today. The No 7 Prefect Light powder is actually my favorite pressed powder. I do have several others in my dressing table though so I need to start reaching for them a bit more. Several of them are translucent and in the summertime they give a little too much white to my skin. The No 7 I use is tinted so it sees a lot of use in the summer.

I am still getting a feel for the Man eater gloss but today I layered it over the Zoeva lip crayon. The Zoeva is a little too tan and makes my lips disappear, but it works layered with products. I’m not over the moon with the formula as it is incredibly soft. I plan to use it up and let it go. I won’t be purchasing it or more shades from the line. The jury is still out on the Tarte Plumping gloss.

This Nomad Palette was barely saved from declutter, but I am glad I did save it. The one dark brown shade (Passeggiata) tends to apply patchy but all of the other pans perform quite well. They blend easily and I don’t know if it is the fall tones of the earth shades in the palette, but I find myself wanting to reach for it more right now. So I did.

It was a quick and easy look today and I rather enjoy it. With the exception of the tingling of the plumping gloss (along with it’s slight stickiness), all of the products feel weightless and it is easy to forget that I am wearing makeup at all. Which is not a bad thing as I have other things I’d like to think about when I work. Over all, today was a good selection of products.
