Trying out the Velvet Rosebud Soothing Hand Cream from Beautanic Beauty

Have you ever avoided a product because you suspected there was something about it that you weren’t going to like? This Beautaniq Beauty Soothing hand cream came in a subscription box a while back. I saw the rose bud in the name and my immediate thought was, oh no not another rose scented hand cream.

So I shuffled it to the back of the drawer and left it sealed, hoping no rose scent was going to leak through. And then I slowly worked my way through the sample sized hand creams in my collection. To fight the effects of hand sanitizer even the ones I don’t particularly care for have been in high demand. While I have several full sized creams I want to try out I set all of them to the side until I could work my way through the sample sized ones. I have been pulling them out one at a time to try and somehow I managed to work my way to the back of the drawer where this little beauty was stashed. So I prepared for the rose, broke open the safety seal and began trying out the Velvet Rosebud Soothing Hand Cream.

To my surprise, there is no scent of rose with the hand cream. As rose (and florals in general) easily go overboard for me in the scented hand cream department, this was a very pleasant surprise. So I looked for more product information. Are you ready for the full description?

“The botanical rose scented hand cream is enriched with Shea Butter. The quick drying, non greasy formula protects, soothes, and moisturizes hands. Resulting in noticeably softer hands.”

Beauaniq Beauty

That’s right according to the description it is rose scented. I applied a thin layer on my hands and sniffed. There might be something…I clamped my hand over my nose and mouth and drew in a deep breath…maybe floral -ish?

The scent, what there is of it is very light. To be honest I felt like I was smelling freshly washed hands and possible soap residue from a lightly scented bar. The scent is almost a non-entity. However I will go with the quick drying and non greasy formula. That is spot on. The Hand cream when you apply it feels like shea butter. It just has that smoothing feel to it that heavily infused shea butter gets.

The cream is thick and white but it sinks in so fast there are no white streaks. While I loved it on the upper parts of my hands and arms I didn’t care for it on my palms. It dries fast so they weren’t slick in the greasy sense but they felt a bit slick. Or perhaps the best term is overly smoothed?

Whatever the term for it, I did feel the need to wipe off the palms of my hands on a damp towel after applying the hand cream. I loved it on the rest of my skin. It was quite moisturizing and really quite quick drying without being greasy, I just didn’t like it on my palms. It felt as though my palms had somehow been extra exfoliated. The rest of my skin felt quite nourished.

A quick rub on a damp towel did take away the feeling so I could apply the hand cream and take off the feeling I didn’t like even as the rest of my skin enjoyed the hand cream. Perhaps it is some element of the quick dry formula. whatever it is, I did enjoy this Velvet Rosebud Smoothing hand cream and I would buy the fill size at $9 in order to use again. I would just wipe off my hands after applying it.

Let’s talk about the tummy…

I know it isn’t a sexy topic and it isn’t a particularly fun one, but sometimes things need to be discussed. Over the years I have suffered from bouts of bloating and constipation. I have tried numerous changes to my eating habits over the years to deal with it.

Oddly enough with as much time and energy as i spend working towards healthy weight loss most of my ‘diets’ over the years have been attempts to deal with the uncomfortable bloating and tummy troubles. I’ve gone from Vegan to Caveman diet and pretty much everything in between. What I ended up landing on was a well balanced diet incorporating all of the food groups, limiting saturated fats and sugars (which seems to work best for me). I also ended up understanding that my gut sometimes simply takes a long time to process foods.

And that, it turns out, isn’t an issue with my diet it is simply how my body works. Mostly I just understand that and live with it. it is an annoyance sometimes, but not a huge health concern so I count myself pretty lucky all in all.

A while back I was sent a sample of Phillips Colon Heath daily Prebiotic 4-in 1 Symptom defense. The sample was sent by Influenster and I liked it enough that I ended up purchasing it on my own and have since kept purchasing it. According to the product page…

Phillips’® Colon Health® Probiotic has three types of specially selected probiotics that: Help replenish good bacteria in the digestive system, including in the colon*, Help defend against occasional digestive issues and support the health of your colon*, Phillips’® Colon Health® Probiotic provides 4-in-1 Symptom Defense™ against occasional:* Gas, Bloating, Constipation, and Diarrhea. Unlike some other brands, Phillips’® Colon Health® Probiotic promises 1.5 billion CFUs at time of expiry.

The capsules are easy to swallow and not overly large. I took one each morning with a bit of toast and that was good for me. Now for me, my body has a way of trapping rather than releasing so I suffer from the bloating and constipation elements. The first few days my body had a grand release shall we say. I stuck close to the bathroom and I can honestly say I have never burped that much in my entire life.

For me I will often get a bubble of gas that feels like it is trapped between the end of my sternum and the top of my stomach and it will sit there rather painfully for a few hours before it slowly dissipates. The first few days of taking this Colon Health Probiotic an hour after the pill went down, the bubble of air came up. The burbs rivaled those produced by teenage boys with a shaken up two liter of soda on hand. I didn’t attempt to recite the alphabet during release, mostly because I was very surprised. Usually burping for me is very difficult.

And given the name Colon Health I expected all the effects to be on the other end of the system.

To be fair it helped on that end as well.

After a couple of days when I was beginning to suspect that taking the probiotic would mean always being within ten feet of a restroom, everything leveled out. My restroom visits returned to normal. However I didn’t have the internal build up or bouts of constipation. Once my body had a good spring cleaning everything just ran smoothly.

I know this isn’t a particularly fun topic to talk about, however it can be useful. Was the bloating a life threatening issue? No, but when it occurred it made me feel miserable. For me this was a simple fix that made me feel a million times better. Now clearly this is not meant as any sort of medical advice, so if you have major issues definitely talk to your doctor and follow their advice. For me and the simple bloating and constipation issues, this was a simple fix that meant a world of difference. And I really wish despite this being a not so pretty subject, someone sat me down and talked to me about this earlier. If any of the above issues are ones you have, I hope this little bit helps you out or at least gives you an avenue to explore.

Testing out the De-Stress Muscle Gel from Aromatherapy Associates

There are some products that announce themselves slowly, their scent gently wafting through the air to tease your senses. This De Stress Muscle Gel from Aromatherapy Associates is not one of those. it is a lavender bomb. Actually that isn’t enough this is a LAVANDER bomb. I’m sorry for shouting but there is nothing subtle about the lavender scent of this muscle gel.

It came sealed in it’s tube and even through the sealant, heck even through the closed subscription box it came in, the scent of lavender made it through. this gel came in a Boxycharm box and even before I opened the box I knew something lavender was inside.

The first thing you need to know is pretty obvious. If you don’t like lavender, this isn’t a product for you. I like lavender but even then I had to think about when i wanted to use it. However, I can always use a good muscle cream. while most of my workouts are walking based, as the weather heats up I have gone indoors more. I recently Signed up for Yoga Works, and online Yoga class website with more than 1300 classes (because I needed something a little bit more structured than what i could find on You Tube but still wanted an at home work out). It’s early days, but I’m liking it thus far. My muscles however have registered complaints, so it seemed like the perfect time to test this muscle gel out.

The product claims…

Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel instantly cools painful and sensitive muscles, once cooled the gel then provides a penetrating warmth for a refreshed relaxed feeling.

Vegan, Nut-Free, and SLS-Free To use: Apply to aching muscles and joints twice a day.

Aromatherapy Associates

Pretty straightforward. Even though it says gel in the name I was surprised a little by the consistency. It isn’t what i would think of as a true gel and it isn’t really a cream. It has a consistency a bit like a water cream. It is like a hybrid of gel and cream.

Once dispensed, the lavender scent increases slightly but it brings a rosemary backer as well. The combination turns this from floral to medicinal almost instantly. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised as rosemary is listed right behind the lavender on the ingredient’s list.

This gel applies very wet. The water gel texture just turns it to liquid as it comes into contact with the warmth from your skin. Then it takes a while to absorb. If you pull up a pants leg yo apply it to your skin, it will cause the material to stick to you. You need to allow a good five minutes to let this cream absorb.

Once on the skin, a menthol scent joins the lavender rosemary combo bringing it more fully into the medicinal scent arena. It applies cool, which I think is the menthol evaporating and the gel absorbing. The coolness of the gel is very helpful to sore muscles. The feeling doesn’t last all that long.

If you are looking for something that provides the deep muscle relaxing sensations that you get from something like Icy Hot then you will be disappointed. This is not a deep tissue sort of muscle assist. It did do a little bit of cooling on the skin and I did feel that my muscle aches were eased a little bit. It is much more subtle in its effect than something like Icy Hot. It smells much more pleasant though.

The scent is very strong. And it doesn’t go away. The scent lingers in the air and it lingers on your skin. I applied it before bed to ease muscle strain and it worked well enough to relax me enough to go to sleep and the scent was more pleasant than any sports cream would have been, but the scent remained into the morning. When I threw back the covers to get out of bed the next day, a waft of lavender was still present.

If you ae looking for an alternative muscle gel this does have some benefits. It does cool you down and temporarily soothes minor aches. Once it absorbs it isn’t greasy, although it does take a while to absorb. Th biggest drawback is it’s scent. It is strong enough that regular exposure gave me headaches. I know it is an aromatherapy type product so the scent is an important part, but they went overboard with it. It is simply too strong a scent. If the scent was halved I would enjoy using it more. As it is, I can only use small amounts and only in well ventilated places. While I would love an alternative to the scent of traditional sports creams, for me, this De Stress Muscle Gel from Aromatherapy Associates is simply not it.

The Daily: May 26th, 2022

Today my darlings, I was sabotaged. The started off fabulously. I awoke after an actual good night’s sleep. I remembered that I needed to get up early and get my walk in first thing. I even checked the air quality stats and weather reports. Partly cloudy with rain later this afternoon.

Perfect. I double checked my sunscreen, put on my walking shoes and out the door I went.

The first half of my walk was fine. The clouds prevented the sun from a murderous attack but it was still warm enough that I had worked up quite the sweat. By the time I walked the length of the trail and was ready to turn around and come back, I was sweat coated and thinking longingly of the shower and fresh clothing. The sun may not have been as broiling behind the screen of clouds, but the humidity was high so the sweat was inevitable. It was like being in a sauna you couldn’t really escape.

But I finished half the walk and turned around in high spirits. A few steps into the return trip, the wind picked up and my spirits faltered. The wind kicked up and I could literally see great yellow clouds of pollen being blown out of the trees. Much of it fell on the pathway. It was very much like the trees decided to throw confetti on my one woman parade. Because of the sweat, it stuck. By the time I got home I looked like I was rolled in yellow dust. Seriously if you have ever added too much turmeric to flour when preparing a flour dredge for chicken, that is sort of what I looked like. Minus the flour.

I stripped in the laundry room and post shower I vacuumed the floor of the laundry room. So today became more about eliminating the pollen coat then about adding makeup. So I thought that in the wake of runny eyes and a beet red dripping nose, I would talk to you about the products I did use today.

First up, we have the Advil Sinus Congestion and Pain tablets. At the moment these are my go to sinus tabs. They knock out all of my symptoms without making me feel drowsy. It still makes me feel like there is a cheese cloth between me and the rest of the world, but it is just a slight mental haze that I can still work through.

The Soda Stream is there to rehydrate after sweating buckets and to wash out any pollen that I might have taken in. I can’t do anything about my nose and lungs, but it makes me feel good to wash my throat clear with carbonated bubbles.

For my hair, which locked in the pollen in every strand, I went with the Christope Robin Cleansing Purifying scalp scrub with Sea salt in place of my shampoo. The salt gets deep down through the hair and scrubs the scalp clean without being too harsh and the foam this product produces is thick and luxurious. I actually used the last of this scalp scrub in today’s shower. It is hands down one of my favorite scalp scrubs and today it was amazing. This jar is now empty but I will be reordering it probably later this afternoon. I usually pick it up on either the Skinstore site They have memorial day sales going on so this is one product I will be adding to my sales purchases.

Since I replaced my shampoo with scalp scrub, I went ahead and replaced my conditioner with the Kendra Platinum Intense fortifying hair masque. I’ve been using this a couple of times a week for the past week and this far it has been a really good hair mask. I don’t always like Kendra products, but this one is definitely a winner. It leaves my hair feeling soft and easy to manage. Of the Kendra products it is my favorite and the one I will reach for repeatedly. I think it is also currently on sale with Lovely Skin’s Memorial Day sales if you are looking to add a hair mask to your collection.

I also used my Honey Pot, because it is standard for my bathing and at this point i reach for it automatically in every shower. Ladies, if you haven’t tried this, you are missing out. It is a fantastic product to add you your line up. I picked it out just to try and see how it performed and have since repurchased this every time i get low on product. It is plant based feminine care and perfectly ph balanced to keep you fresh and clean. I can not recommend this highly enough for any woman. It is not about fixing a problem it is about self care. I am not an affiliate in any way, just a big fan.

While the packaging for the Daily Concerns Daily Body scrubber is in the above photo, I did take a picture of it before I took it to use in the shower. It has a nice sponge inside which hold a lot of the product so you can actually use less as the product comes out as you use it and the exterior is nicely exfoliating on the body. It isn’t that harsh an exfoliation, but you still might want to switch to a mesh body scrubber for your delicate bits. It may not be too harsh for the skin, but it is a bit too exfoliating for certain areas. This was my first use of it and I think I will get a lot of use out of it, it just won’t be replacing my regular mesh scrubbie.

And with this sort of exfoliating scrubber I really like to use a moisturizing body wash. Todays was the Olay Fresh Outlast Orchid and Black Currant Body Wash. Generally if I am not testing out a body wash, this is my standard. It provides a nice level of moisture which is always good for my skin, without becoming slimy as some moisturizing body washes can get. It was especially important to use a moisturizing body wash after the exfoliation of the body scrubber.

And of course post shower I vacuumed the floor of the laundry rom and porch where I entered the house, turned on the air purifier to high to clear out the remaining particles and then scrubbed off the yellow ring of pollen left in the bathtub after I washed it from my body. So needless to say, today did not go as planned. However I now have a very clean bathroom, and I am clean myself. In addition, may hair feels quite amazingly clean all the way down to the scalp. Even if it does mean hat I realized my hair color has faded and more grays are poking through than I realized.

That just means it is time to reach for the root touch up and to pick out another hair dye color to try. I rather like the darker color so I think I will be sticking in the darker range. I had fun with the reds, but I think the darker color might actually suit me better. Something to contemplate while I reach for the root touch up and get back to work. Settling back into my desk I notice the computer is now flashing a Pollen High notice at me in bright red. You know, just in case I missed it. Sigh. I hope your day runs a bit more smoothly than mine. Ah, the joys of spring.

Using the Mitchell and Peach English Leaf Body Oil

This Mitchell and Peach English Leaf Body Oil came to me via a Boxy Charm. To be honest I had never heard of Mitchell and Peach, however it is the season for body oils. At least in my opinion. In the winter I go for heavier creams which my dry winter skin soaks in.

As the temperatures rise, I tend to prefer body oils. For me it feels like they absorb much more rabidly and hydrate really well. I prefer to use them right after my shower when the heat from the shower has opened my pores. I basically towel off and then apply instead of body lotion.

This year the warmer weather snuck up on me. I was prepared for it, then we got snow and I had to hustle back into my winter clothes. Then just as I thought temps were again on the rise, we had another cold snap. So I am late stocking up on my warmer weather products as it seemed that every time I thought about it, the cold would return.

I am pretty sure it won’t be coming back until October at this point.

Having never heard of Mitchell and Peach (or this product) I looked them up. Accoding to the brand this body oil…

The newest addition to the Mitchell and Peach collection, this expertly blended body oil was inspired by the lush, verdant countryside of the Foxbury Farm estate in Kent, England.

The nourishing formulation, containing natural oils and Vitamin E, is delicately scented with a ‘green floral’ fragrance possessing both cut-leaf freshness and intriguing depth.

Mitchell and Peach
the open top

While I have never been to Foxbury Farm and to be honest my visits to Britain haven’t been to Kent either, I can say that this Body Oil has a very green scent to it. I know, it isn’t helpful when I describe scents as colors. Sometimes the wires just get crossed.

It has a fresh scent to the oil that is like the first scent of a green leaf emerging from a tree. If you sniff the branch where the tree is starting to bud out, before it gets the particular scent of the plant type and is still just new growth, that is more or less the scent of the oil.

It is a light scent that is refreshing after a hot shower, the scent feels a bit cooling actually as it reminds me of an early spring morning which is generally cooler than my shower. Applying it produces a delightful mental fission, at least in me anyway.

I love that there is vitamin E in the oil as it is a great softening agent for the skin and my skin really enjoyed it. Thus far this has been a great addition to the body care line up.

However, while I adore the glass bottle, I don’t really like the lid. It is not the easiest to twist off with damp hands (it also has condensation from the humid air of the bath and is wet itself) and post application it is harder to get into place with my then oily hands.

Normally this isn’t too big of an issue, I can set the bottle to the side, wash and dry my hands and then put the cap back on. The issue is that it is an open top under the cap. There is no regulator and I do not have the largest bathroom in the world. I have almost knocked this over a couple of times. And it really world be a shame to waste it.

I also don’t like the open top for dispensing the product. It is better now that I have used a bit and the bottle isn’t full. It is easier to control the pour when then bottle isn’t completely full. The open top means that you really have to watch how you pour it into your hand as it is very easy to use too much. Too much of a body oil makes you feel greasy. Applying a smaller amount that the skin can absorb easily makes the skin soft and hydrated.

Over all, I really did like this Body oil and will continue to use it until it is gone. Would I purchase it on my own? Yes actually I would. I would however replace the cap with one that would let me control the dispensing of the product a little bit better. I a actually fairly certain I have a cap from another bottle that would fit. I will be trying it out as a replacement later. Beyond that one minor detail, this Mitchell and Peach English Leaf Body Oil is a great product and it makes me want to further investigate the Mitchell and Peach Brand.

A month of Sure Beauty’s MS-12C2 Ultrasonic Cavitation 2.5 Body Slimming Machine

Over the past month I have been testing out this ultrasonic cavitation 2.5 body slimming machine (MS-12C2) sent to me by Sure Beauty. While this machine was gifted to me, all thoughts are my own.

For me this was a very interesting test. When you look at all of the photos of people using any sort of fat burning tightening machines, they are almost always people who do not have all that much fat to lose or who don’t need that much tightened. I understand the advertising aspect of this, it isn’t rocket science. But if you have been following along with my posts for any length of time now you know that I have 80-90 lbs to lose to be into a healthy range. At least according to my doctor. I will be playing the exact number by ear, but at the moment I have a long way to travel before my weight loss journey ends.

That being said, I don’t expect magic from this machine. I did not go into this thinking that i would be 90 lbs over weight and at the end of thirty days some how magically the weight my doctor thinks is ideal for my body type. That isn’t how these things work. That being said, I do have a lot of fat to test the fat burning machine on. So first let’s look at what the machine is supposed to accomplish.

It is a unoisetion ultrasonic cavitation 2.5 body slimming machine to melt fat and tighten loose skin. This fat burner ultrasonic cavitation machine is just what you need to explosive or blast stubborn fat. That promotes your metabolism to keep your body shape. It is a machine that burns fat cells while eliminating cellulite as well as uses ultrasonic cavitation treatment to enhance collagen production and tighten skin.

Sure Beauty

As you can see from the description, it is not magic.

The process of using this machine was interesting. The manual is easy to read and in case the words are confusing, there are handy pictures for you to follow along. What you need to do when using this is clear and easy. It is an easy machine to use, and easy to keep clean.

The directions suggest that you make sure your skin is damp and that you use the gel with it. Essentially it is yo keep you from using the machine on your dry skin. I used it three times a week and found it most convenient to use it post shower. That way my skin was well dampened and the gel could be applied. The instructions also recommend that you use it after eating so you have food in your belly when using it.

I did try it on an empty stomach and ended up feeling a little nauseated so i’d recommend you follow that direction. I did not try it on completely dry skin, however dry skin was an issue. The ‘Sessions’ with the machine were half hour ones. Even with the gel on my skin (the gel helping to keep the skin moist and allow the machine to run smoothly over the skin) after about ten to fifteen minutes, my skin started to dry out a bit. If I applied more gel, the skin tended to get a little sticky. I found it best, to keep a wet wash cloth (in a bowl of water) handy, then after 15 minutes, take a break, use the wash cloth, then apply more of the gel, and then finish the session. This was the best method for me.

I did go through a lot of the gel. You may notice that the tube pictured is the fresh unopened tube. That is because it ran about about a week ago and without thinking I threw it out. Since then I used Vaseline. The Vaseline kept the machine moving smoothly and didn’t dry out so I only needed to wipe off a little extra Vaseline when i was done instead of rewetting the skin and using a second application. So I would say that the Vaseline did a better job of keeping my skin from drying out and the machine from sticking than the gel. I think the gel just needs a degree of moisture to it to keep from getting sticky that the Vaseline simply didn’t need.

The machine manual suggests that you start on a low setting and work your way up. This too was interesting. When I first used it I didn’t feel anything with the lower settings. So I turned it up until I felt something (About midway up the dial). I left it there as I could feel it doing something. At the end of my session I didn’t feel anything. It was the next morning that I felt I had done a whole munch of sit ups the day before. So that is something to watch. Start low the first day, because the next day you will feel more than you thought you would.

Gradually my tolerance increased and I was not so sore the next morning. When this happened on my next session I turned the dial up slightly. Slowly I increased the vibrations. I had no issues when doing this.

Now as I said, the big issue with machines like this is that you can expect miracles. I did take a photo at the beginning and at the end. i can find no way to edit them to a level of nudity I am comfortable posting, however the fact is the before and after photos don’t look any different. However this is not to say there wasn’t any change. I have lost one inch off my waist. Which is interesting as this month i think I gained a little weight through holiday eating. My bust and hip measurements are the same but my waist has gone down an inch. In addition I have quite a few stretch marks that have appeared as my weight has decreased. A couple of the more long standing ones are not as pronounced as they were. Again, in the photos they look the same, but when I run my finger tips over them they are slightly less.

I suspect that this machine, if I continue to use regularly, will help reduce those marks and possibly keep new ones from forming. I also suspect there would be a more noticeable difference on someone who doesn’t have as much weight to lose and who just wants to work on tightening skin and working off a little stubborn fat. Asking the machine to shift 90 lbs in thirty days is not a reasonable expectation. However it did give me enough reaction to let me know that it was doing something. While I wanted to do a thirty day post, I think given my size it really needs to be a six months on kind of post. Now that I am in the habit of using this, I think that I may continue and see if six months sees some more drastic changes. For me, given the length of time used one inch down was quite impressive and I am looking forward to seeing more longer term results from this Sure Beauty machine.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas: Molton Brown Gift Sets

I’ll admit, I have a weakness for Molton Brown Bath Products. I absolutely adore their shower gels and the wide array of fragrances available. I love that there is a scent for everyone too. Want something fresh and Fruity? Try Rhubarb and Rose. It’s floral that is well balanced with a bit of a tart note that keeps it fresh and not to heavily floral. Looking for something costal? Try out the Costal Cypress and Sea fennel. It has the fresh scent I always think of when I think of the sea side. Looking for something a little bit spicy? Then Pink Pepper may just be for you.

And those are just a few of the scents. Every time I am on the site I find new scents that i just want to try. The descriptions draw me in just as much as perfume descriptions do and I often find myself wanting to try them all. (which tends to be why I order the sampler set for myself during Black Friday. It’s my reward for having gotten all of my gift shopping completed).

And as my Mother introduced me to the brand, you know I couldn’t let a mother’s day pass without including something from Molton Brown on the list.

This year there are two items I think are well worth picking up. The first is the Floral and Fruity shower Gel Gift Set. It includes: 3 x 10fl oz in -Delicious Rhubarb & Rose Bath & Shower Gel, Jasmine & Sun Rose Bath & Shower Gel and Orange & Bergamot Bath & Shower Gel.

I love the formula of the Molton Brown Shower Gel. It has a really rich lather that rinses off cleanly without leaving any filmy residue on the skin. In addition,. while the scent in the shower is intense and sort of fills your shower with utterly delicious scents, once you towel off the sent fades back to barely a whisper against your skin. It was one of the things I was concerned about when i first used it. The scent in the shower was kind of strong so I assumed it would mix and mingle with every other scent I attempted to put on. It doesn’t. It is a soft scent of clean skin and is very light. I have to say, I chose this because these scants are exactly the ones my mother likes. I know she loves the Rose and Rhubarb, but I suspect that is only because she has never tried the Orange and Bergamot.

You know me, I am not a bergamot fan, in fact i think I might be slightly allergic to it. My mother on the other hand loves it. I am pretty sure that if she could submerge herself in essence of Bergamot while sipping Earl gray tea she would. So I know this set would be a big hit for her.

The second item that tops my charts is the Worldly Traveler Drawstring Travel Pouch. I think what draws me to it is that it is a sampler kit, which you know i love. And the scent’s draw me to it. It includes: Vetiver & Grapefruit Bath & Shower Gel 3.3fl oz, Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel Bath & Shower Gel 3.3fl oz, Re-charge Black Pepper Bath & Shower Gel 3.3fl oz, Geranium Nefertum Bath & Shower Gel 3.3fl oz, Tobacco Absolute Bath & Shower Gel 3.3fl oz, Purifying Shampoo With Indian Cress 3.3fl oz, Molton Brown Drawstring Travel Pouch

I know this is much more of a me gift than it is for my mom, because these are scents I tend to gravitate towards. But I thought I would mention it in case like me, your mother isn’t always drawn to florals.

I really like the wide array of products and gift sets that are on the Mother’s Day list for Molton Brown. There are the shower gel options or hand care options. There are even perfume options. And of course sets that include all three (Hand lotion, shower gel and perfume). And while there are a lot of floral options the scents are varied so you can indulge in just the right one for your mother.

Using the Merci Handy Hand Cream

It is rare for me to be annoyed by a hand cream. I have tried out a lot of them. Especially in the last two years. Some have been very good. Some have been very bad. Some have given me lasting hydration and some just made my hands feel slimy and greasy for a little while. But very few have truly annoyed me the way this Merci Handy Hand Cream has done.

It isa fairly normal hand cream. It is the size tube that works fantastically well in the purse or a back pack, or even in the car. And I have gotten into the habit of keeping small tubes of hand cream within easy reach at all times. I went through a bad series of hand sanitizer induced cracking and I am not likely to let myself be so afflicted again. Typing when the skin of your hands hurts to move is not a fun experience.

dry skin

So I have hand cream everywhere. when this came in a recent Glossy Box I thought, “Excellent, right size, nice scent, perfect for the bag.’ While I have a large container of Olay with a pump that I am loving right now, I needed something for my purse. So that’s where it went.

Here is the thing with this hand cream. It has shea butter and almond oil in it. I love the scent of almond oil and I love the softness of shea butter. So this should have been a home run for me. It absorbs well and my hands feel fantastically soft and nourished. And then there is that lovely sweet almond scent.

Fabulous right?

cream

Yeah, I had a couple of meetings back to back in different buildings which required a few different applications of hand sanitizer. No problem, right? I have hand cream in my purse. Oh you don’t have hand cream, well let me share. Oh yes isn’t that a nice scent. Wait…what is…oh no.

Yeah it turns out that this hand cream not only leaves soft sweet smelling skin it it’s wake so that you don’t forget that it was there, it leaves a holographic sheen on your skin as well. If you look at your skin, at first you might not see it, which is why I had it in my bag and shared it out with a work related group of people. Then the light caught the hand cream and we all had soft and sparkly hands.

I apologized and everyone was amused (partially because they are used to me testing things out) but it wasn’t really how I wanted the day to go. Afterwards I read the back of the label…

We roamed the sky looking for the softest clouds, added a drop of magical sweet almond oil and a dash of enchanted shea butter, bottled it all up in a tube and ended up with this whipped butter lighter than a uncumulonimbus.

Back of the Merci Handy Hand Cream Bottle

While there are the words magical and enchanted in the description, at no point does it say, will leave a holographic sheen on your skin that will cause you and a group of your coworkers to enter a meeting looking like you took turns slapping Tinkerbell.

applied

And that is the annoying part, first no warning, but mostly it is a really good hand cream. It makes my skin really nicely hydrated and the scent, while nice is not overpowering and disperses in a few minutes so you aren’t sending out a cloud of almond scent. That not only keeps you from annoying your coworkers, but lets you use it multiple times throughout the day without causing a scented overload. If it weren’t for the holographic shimmer, this would be a hand cream that I would purchase repeatedly even if it was just to keep a tube in my bag.

glitter hand

With the shimmer, I had to take it out of my bag and only use it when I know i am not going anywhere. I will use this. I will revel in it’s softness and scent. But when it is done I will not repurchase it simply because I don’t want to accidentally end up in a meeting while my hands are covered in glitter. I would be both less annoyed if there was a warning and if it wasn’t such a good hand cream. The fact that this Merci Handy Hand Cream is a good hand cream that I will never purchase again really just annoys me.

Falling in love with Olay

Like many of you I have been in great need of hand and body lotion in the past…oh we’ll say two years. while before it was a nice thing to have around, especially in the winter, the massive amounts of hand sanitizer have made it much more of a necessity. I have also become a great deal pickier. Before, lotion was just lotion, some was better than others, and most were interchangable.

Boy, has that changed.

Some lotions with a strong scent didn’t bother me because I was only using them occasionally, not multiple times a day. Others might be a little greasy but those I’d just use up and just not bother with later. While I try out the various lotions that come in my subscription boxes, I’ve found that there are expensive creams I like and inexpensive ones I like. There are also expensive ones I don’t like and inexpensive ones I can’t stand. I’m finding that each lotion has to be evaluated more or less independently.

Part of that is of course the scent. If the lotion is used once a week or even once a day, it is less of an issue than the multiple times a day I am using it. while I still like my highly scented lotions, I do tend to keep them for once a day. I have been drawn more and more to the lower scented products for repeated use during the day. However I have also found that I don’t really like the no scented products. There is something about them I find slightly off putting.

I know, I can be so picky sometimes.

I picked up this Olay Nourishing Body Lotion when I happened to pass it in the aisle at the grocery store. Mt thoughts were, ‘Oh I’m out of lotion. Oh there’s Olay, I like Olay, ooh it has hyaluronic acid in it, let’s try this one.’

Yes, I know, a complicated thought process.

The truth is I did need a body lotion. I have used up pretty much all of my sample sized hoard and my skin needed some moisture. I also love Olay. While I try out different body washes I always come back to the Olay Body wash (my current favorite is the Fresh Outlast in Orchid and Black Currant). I have also used and liked most of the skin care products from the regenerate line and have a list of samples I’ve tried from the brand that I want to try out in a full sized version. Over all Olay is a reliable brand for me.

So why shouldn’t their body lotion be good?

plus you know I am a sucker for Hyaluronic acid. It is amazing at helping to minimize some of the fine lines on my face, why shouldn’t it be helpful to the rest of my body?

According to the Olay website…

Replenish your skin with the deep moisture of Olay Nourishing & Hydrating Body Lotion. This moisturizing lotion has a nutrient-rich formula crafted with hyaluronic acid and our Vitamin B3 Complex and was created specifically to deeply nourish your skin from head to toe for long-lasting, smooth skin. Why add Vitamin B3 Complex into your routine? It’s the ultimate skin-improvement ingredient. Vitamin B3 allows your skin to hold on to water so it can become its own moisturizer. It also leaves you with skin that acts younger, feels softer, and looks smoother. You’ll love your skin’s visible transformation without the greasy residue of other types of body cream or hand cream. This body lotion also absorbs quickly, penetrating skin up to 10 layers deep, leaving your skin with long-lasting smoothness and increased skin cell turnover. Make sure you take a minute to appreciate its lovely packaging—it’s definitely countertop worthy. Use daily all over your body during your morning or evening routine. Use with Olay Skin Care-Inspired Body Wash to boost effects of Vitamin B3 Complex and moisturizing ingredients.

Olay

And I have to say, I am a fan.

First let’s talk packaging. while I have gone through tubes of lotion by the score in my life, these days the pump top is king. I’ll still use tubes when I get out of the shower or just before bed, but for post washing or hand sanitizing, a quick pump is really fantastic. Because it is just a quick tap to dispense I don’t forget to add lotion to my hands as often as I do when there is just a tube of body lotion or hand cream next to the sink.

And yes I know it sounds silly, after all picking up a tube of lotion, unscrewing the cap, squeezing out the product, and putting the cap back on are not onerous things. But with a pump it is one tap and go so I forget less often. And really a product only works if you use it. The pump means that I don’t forget to use it.

Some days, it’s the little things.

The scent of the Olay Body lotion is interesting. It honestly smells like an Olay product. Which I know sounds strange. I think it is the B3 complex. It is in my body wash as well and I think it was in a couple of the skin care products I’ve tried. I think that is just what make it smell like Olay. I don’t mind that it pairs well with my body wash, in fact it helps that the scent pairs well with my body wash. While it is an Olay scent, it is light and also smells like skincare. The scent is not overpowering and I can use it multiple times a day without feeling over powered. The scent is strongest when it is first applied but then when it settles in it is barely noticeable and I just associated it with clean, moisturized skin (I think partially because of the body wash).

right after application

The formula has the consistency of a water cream face cream. It is not a thick cream. It pumps out white, but almost instantly the white disappears as you massage it into the skin. The skin looks shiny for a moment and then it absorbs in. No greasy residue, just nice clean skin.

While I like this as body lotion, I du use it throughout the day to hydrate my hands. I have never had a problem with greasiness and because it is so easy to reach for, I do. So there has been less cracking of the skin and less pain around the joints. When my skin dries the skin around the knuckles tend to be the first to go and when overly dry they crack and it really hurts. So keeping my hands hydrated is a priority.

Over all I am very impressed with the Olay Nourishing Body Lotion with Hyaluronic acid. I am halfway through the bottle and i will be repurchasing a replacement as soon as the product level dips low enough to warrant a replacement. It is a lotion I will be keeping on hand for some time to come.

Using the Honey Pot

There are products that i try and then let go. many of them I review here. There are also products that I try out and then incorporate into my daily routine. Some of those I also review here. Then there are products that I use on a regular basis that I love but have become so much a part of my routine that I completely forget about reviewing them.

The Honey Pot is one of those products.

For those who have never heard of The Honey Pot it is a foaming wash for your vagina.

The Honey Pot

I picked this up more because for a while it felt like the commercials were stalking me then from an intense desire to try it out. Not that I think trying something gets the commercials to go away. I don’t know what about the algorithms (other than the fact that I am biologically a female) that made the commercials follow me. But for a while it felt like every other commercial I saw was for the Honey Pot. (Now the commercial currently stalking me is Savage By Dior and advertised with Johnny Depp, go figure,)

At this point of commercial stalking, I had just started working out and was still trying to remember that wearing lacy undergarments while sweating heavily, no matter how small the lace trim, often turns the lace into sandpaper deeply exfoliating places that do not need deep exfoliation. The panty line was the worst because there would often be decorative detail I forgot was on there.

foam has a fresh, slightly vinegary undertone in scent due to its pH balancing elements

The irritation was caused by rubbing material and (since it was lace trim to blame) located along the panty line. Body wash tended to sting so I figured it might be a good time to try The Honey Pot out. It isn’t a wash designed to save you from forgetting to change into plain cotton undies before working out (Thank you HANES for your cotton panty packs! They are a workout life saver.) but it is gentle enough that any overlap as I bathed didn’t cause any irritation. It is a gentle enough product that even the normal (which I use) causes no irritation.

I use the normal wash because i didn’t have any real problems like sensitivity, dryness or irritation (except for the accidentally self inflicted). They do make a sensitive wash of those are your issues. But once I started using this I felt fresher and cleaner (regardless of the time of month) and I noticed a real difference when I tried going back to my regular body wash.

Seriously, I tried it, liked it and at the end of the bottle thought ‘Oh yeah fresh and clean, just like soap’ and then i went back to soap. It is not like soap. It is better than soap for your lady bits, especially if you are spending time working out. It is one of those things you really have to try for yourself, but for me it was well worth adding it to my bath time routine. I may forget to mention it, but The Honey Pot has become a standard in my bathing routine.

Incidentally, Hanes cotton Panties (all styles) are on a massive sale right now. People may praise yoga pants, water bottles and step counters, but when it comes to working out cotton panties are one of the best items as a woman that you can add to your work out gear. I wear them, wear them out and replace them. In this Hanes is one of my best work out buddies.
