Trying out the Montrax Heated Eye Mask

Sleep is one of those things everyone needs. It is also something that often eludes me. While there are many factors that contribute to a sleepless night, one of the ones that is often ignored is light. I am an extremely light sleeper and it took me a really long time to realize that one of the things that woke me up a lot during the night was the shifting lights in the bedroom.

A neighbor turns on or off a porchlight, a passing cat triggers an overly sensitive security light, a car drives past the house and headlights roll past the windows. A million things can happen in the night to shift the light around and once i realized that the shifting of the light in the room, even if it was for a short time, was one of the things that was waking me up, or at least a contributing factor, I began to look into eye masks.

I am actually amazed at the variety of eye masks out there. You wouldn’t think that there would be so much variation, but there is and I have discovered some preferences and a list of things that I think make the perfect eye mask. Admittedly, that list is always adapting as I find new masks with new features.

flat, adjustable light weight strap

So when Mountrax asked if they could sent one of their heated eye masks to me to try out and review I was all for it. The Mountrax Heated Eyemask is a 3D Design and made for total black out. It has smart IC for save warm Eye compress to help relieve sinuses and puffiness and it even has a small pocket for a scent tab if you are looking for a full sensory experience. The Mountrax Heated Eye mask retails for $29.99.

So let’s take a look at the eye mask. The first thing i always look at with eye masks is the strap. I know it sounds strange but I have found one of the key features of a good eye mask is an adjustable strap. Many of the eye masks I have tried have just an elastic band holding them in place. Some of the elastics have been very nicely covered in silk or satin, but the truth is that if you sleep in them every night then that elastic is going to loosen. To continue to consistently use an eye mask for any length of time the strap needs to be adjustable. This not only has an easy to adjust strap but it is a wide strap. The wider the strap the more comfortable it is to wear. There isn’t a thin line of pressure on your head and you don’t feel a ridge where your head presses against the pillow. So the strap get’s two thumbs up.

contours with memory foam

The mask itself is a soft material that feels nice against the skin. It is filled with low rebound memory foam so it is light against the skin as well, so there is nothing heavy pressing against the face. This is my first 3D face mask and I have to say I am in love. I may never go back to the flat masks. The way the 3D works is that the foam ridge aligns with your brow and your lower orbital bone. there is then a concave space above your eyes. Which means nothing is pressing against your eyelids. You can blink with abandon and not feel like your eyes are trapped in a closed position.

For me this means that if I hear a sound in the middle of the night, I can open my eyes to listen, but still be in the darkness of the mask as my ears try to determine what the sound was. Usually it is the heater clicking on or some other identifiable noise that once my brain realizes what it is I can let it go. Because I don’t have to lift up the mask to open my eyes and thus expose myself to the light and shadow of the room, I find it much easier to slide back into sleep.

port for cord and heating element

As far as black out goes, this design really works for me. The memory foam contours to my face well and hugs my face gently while still blacking out all light from my eyes. It is quite honestly the best black out mask I have ever tried with regards to light blockage. I was worried at first because the materials are so light weight but it does a really good job.

The heating element has a port where it can be attached to a USB port to turn on. I like that if I don’t want it to heat I can easily ignore the port and just use it as a mask. The Heating element runs horizontally through the center of the mask. Because it is a 3D mask even though the hearting strip is over the eyes, it isn’t pressed against them. It sort of heats up the chamber where your eyes are, using the warmed air to heat your eyes rather than directly heating them with the element, which I like. Also because of the design you can use it when you have makeup on. It doesn’t press against the eyes so there is just a small touch up where it was pressed across your nose when you have finished with it.

quite a long cord and easy to use with any usb plug in

For me, the heating element was better used when I was awake than asleep. I think that might be because I sleep on my side. Also the port for the heating element is on the left and my night stand (and USP ports) are all on my right hand side. So it was a bit of a challenge to use when sleeping. However for a little allergy relief it was fantastic. I settled myself in a comfortable chair and put the mask on for a ten minute break when my allergies were acting up and it really helped relieve some of that sinus pressure. I tend to prefer a lot more non drug sinus assistance and this fit the bill perfectly. The pressure was relieved and my headache lessened. I did have to keep a box of tissues handy as it did sort of start the faucet running so to speak, but the reliving of the pressure was well worth it.

scent port

There is a scent port on the front of the mask located close to the nose. It fits a little tablet inside. It does nothing when on it’s own but once you turn the heating element on it releases the scent of the tablet. The one that came with my mask was Sage and it was a pleasantly herbily aroma. I personally like sage. I keep a pot of it and cook with it often. while i found it pleasant i could see it being really handy for scent based therapies like allergy and cold relief. My babydoll did try the mask and the heated element with the scent tab in. He is currently getting over a very bad sinus infection and he really wanted to keep the mask for himself. (I suspect we will be ordering a second one for his use). His comment was to ask if they had menthol scented tablets.

While I do not care for menthol, he adores the scent and I can see how it would be quite helpful with a sinus or a cold.

For me, I think the scent tab is nice but probably not something I would use a lot. I like the idea, I just don’t think I would use it. I would definitely use the heating element when I needed headache relief or relief from congestion or puffy eyes. For me a ten minute break to sit and let the heat work it’s magic did wonders when I needed it.

First and foremost it is a wonderful sleeping mask. The band is snug but not too tight and flat enough that it is not noticeable when the head hits the pillow. It conforms to the face well with the memory foam. the 3D design lets my eyes blink when the need to and open if necessary, thus promoting a more natural sort of sleep for me. Although I have to say they had me at blackout design. Th9is mask sits so perfectly that it blocks out all light providing a truly dark space in which to sleep. The other attributes are fine and actually quite nifty, but that lack out design and comfortable wear make this perfect for helping a light sleeper like me not wake up due to shifting lights in the room. I will be using this Mountrax Heated Eye Mask for a long time to come.

Trying on the Winter Drape Fit

Drape fit is a clothing subscription service that I have been trying out. It is my third fit and we are slowly edging into something approaching understanding. In my last two boxes, I ended up with one item from each, one a dress and the other a shirt. The shirt has in fact become my go to work meeting shirt and I absolutely love it.

This month i am not keeping anything.

One of the reasons I wanted to try out this service was because it was one of the few that had a plus sized section and I thought it would be nice to try. My plan was to go a year on the subscription level as it was and then change a few things in my profile and to play around with the service. While you can get a monthly Fit, I get my subscription quarterly, mostly because I simply don’t need that many clothes. So once a season is fine for me.

I am going to go in after my third fit because I think I am a smaller size than the clothing they are sending me. With one exception all of the shirts they sent me were enormous with no definition and actually made me look heavier than I am. I do actually have a waist and curves. These shirts for the most part made me look like a giant square.

So the size will need to be reconfigured. In addition they have multiple tiers for price range as to how much you are willing to spend on a single item. They do let you go by item. In your profile they will ask how much you would be willing to pay for a blouse versus an overcoat (or outerwear), shoes versus pants. I really like that because there are certain items I am willing to pay more for than others. For this first year of testing I went with the lowest price on all of the items.

The most expensive item in my box this month’s box was $30.75. The garments are pretty much what i would expect in the $28-30 range. They are good basic items. I don’t actually need any good basic items though. Those I can generally find in stores near me. what i want is something I can’t find in stores near me so I think instead of letting this set of settings play out for another month, I am going to adjust things when I go in to adjust my measurements. I’ll keep you posted on what I change and how then we will all see how things play out.

With each fit there are seven items. You can choose accessories as an item. I chose no accessories and this is the first time they sent me an accessory. It is a tennis bracelet. Since I knew I was sending it back I didn’t take it out of the package. It is the first time they have sent me something in a category I told them i didn’t want. I suspect it has something to with the idea of a little sparkle for the holiday season.

with the items comes a bag. As all of the items this month are going back, you can see that they do indeed all fit inside the bag quite easily. In addition to the bag there is one piece of paper breaking out the cost of each item and a slip of paper that tells you how the stylist paired the items. This month there were two pairs of pants and two shirts that paired with each pair of pants.

I have trouble finding trousers I like because I am very picky. I figured a company with the entire world to search would have better luck. Thus far that has not proven to be the case as all of the trousers have been miserable failures. I think because of my weight they assume that I want only jeggings style of pants. The problem with these is that to get the crotch to sit correctly I have to pull the pants up a lot further than my waist which means I can’t really tuck the shirts in because the waist is too high so they have to hang their tent like even though some of them are designed to be tucked in so they don’t make you look bigger than you are. If you lower the waist to the appropriate waist location then the crotch hangs low and your butt looks droopy. Even with the pants pulled up the leg is too long and while I have no problem hemming pants (and in fact learned to sew just so I could hem my trousers) this is not material that takes well to hemming.

So the two trousers were a bust, and yes I do know that high waisted pants are in fashion but I personally do not think that the waist band of your trousers should be touching the bottom of your bra. That is a little too high waisted.

I do like that the trousers were paired with the shirts. This fit they got the colors right for the most part (I didn’t care for the plaid patchwork shirt although ironically that was the only shirt that fit me correctly. I love that they picked up the jewel tones that I like. And finally there were no butterflies or flowers on the clothing. I don’t know why people insist on putting butterflies and flowers on plus sized women’s clothing. A lot oft the time the butterflies end up looking like Mothra and the flowers make me feel like a circa 1970s couch. All of the cloth for the shirts was that cotton rayon blend. It feels soft to the touch and wears well. It is also what most of the shirts I can buy locally are made from.

Like most things I suppose you get what you pay for. in the price range I gave them I got the same moderately priced clothing I can get anywhere. I think that more than anything means I need to increase the scope of the price range. I feel a little better about doing that now that I know how easy it is to return items and now that the stylist is actually sort of edging into things where the color range is more my thing. So we will see how the changes made after this fit affect what is sent to me. I will say that while not unique, the pieces sent to me are all of good quality. As they are similar to pieces i already have though, they are going to be sent back and hopefully soon I will have something I would never have found for myself. which is, in my opinion, one of the benefits to this sort of service.

Trying out the jewelry from Shop Miss A

Recently I picked up a variety of items from Shop Miss A. I was actually especially interested in their jewelry selection. Mostly because $1 -$1.88 seeped a bit hard to believe. I chose a variety of items from necklaces to rings to earrings.

Here is the thing. I love good jewelry. I have several pricier pieces that I tend to wear when I go out. I tend to keep them for someplace special because the pieces are special. And the last think I want to do is lose an expensive piece of jewelry while running errands or taking a walk. Plus I have the tendency to fiddle with my jewelry throughout the day. I am especially hard on necklaces. I tend to get ones with little charms on them and slide them back and forth along the chain as I think about the wording for e-mails and articles.

To be honest though, I like inexpensive jewelry for day time use as I don’t tend not worry about it as much. My big concern is Nickle, If it is in the earrings or necklaces I break out in a rash. So for me the inexpensive jewelry section of the Shop Miss A website looked especially interesting.

adjustable on right

I have a weakness for rings so I ordered three. One is an epoxy resin ring, one is an adjustable ring and the third was just a slid metal ring. I thought the rhinestone studded snake was adorable. There is no sizing chart so you just order the ring and get what you get. (It is also why i wanted to see three different styles. The amber colored resin ring fit perfectly on my pointing finger and I think it actually fits well there. Given the size of the ring it is where I would want to wear it. I always feel vaguely evil queen like when I have a chunky ring on my pointing finger. It is solid and sturdy. It has been knocked about for the past few weeks and still looks to be in good shape.

three layered necklace

In this picture I didn’t adjust the adjustable ring and it fit my ring finger slightly snuggly. My ring finger is between a six and a half and a seven depending on how much salt I have in my system. The metal is a decent enough quality that I don’t think it is going to come to any harm with the adjusting of the size.

There is only a limited amount the ring will go in though. There is not a wide gap between the separated elements. Yu are looking at maybe shrinking it half a size while you should be able to enlarge it one, maybe two sizes with no problem. As I thought the ring would be good for my nieces as a little stocking stuffer, I am going to have to check their finger sizes before ordering anything.

The nonadjustable ring is a good fir for my middle finger. I admit, I am not a middle finger ring wearing person. I also don’t wear pinkie rings, but every other finger is fair game for rings. My guess is that this would make this a seven to a seven and a half in sizing. Probably closer to a seven. I can wear it on my ring finger but it is loose and it kept turning around. The metal is decent quality and though my hands got banged around a bit, none of the stones fell out of the ring.

broken chain at the weak point where the two chain sizes meet

The necklaces were interesting. What i found with all of the ones I purchased was that the charms on the necklaces were of decent quality, but the chains were on the cheaper side. If I was going to get this for someone else as a potential stocking stuffer, I would purchase the necklace and then pick up a better quality chain elsewhere. Then do a little but of at home surgery. As one of my chains has already broken, the charm has been relocated to a sturdier chain and I still enjoy wearing it. I am a bit hard on necklaces with charms on them though. The chains in the triple layer were a little better quality, but I also don’t play with them as much. The weak point is the section of chain near that catch. Where the thin chain of the necklace meets the larger looped chain so you can adjust the length is where the weak spot is and where the chains broke.

Of the lot, the earrings were the best quality. They are sturdy and didn’t make my ears itch so there is no nickel. the looked good on and felt good on. They were actually a complete surprise. Of the lot of them, the earrings are the ones most likely to be slipped into a stocking. they hace soft plastic stoppers on the posts, the posts are in securely and the posts themselves didn’t bend or cause any distress. Over all I was very pleased with them

In facet I was pleased with all of the jewelry from Shop Miss A. The necklace chains were the big disappointment, but I do have excess chains to string charms on and the charms were of decent quality so that I don’t mind for everyday wear. The only issue with the rings is the potential sizing issue. They two were of decent everyday wearable quality.

I know I sound a little bit shocked but while these aren’t showroom pieces I honestly didn’t expect this good a quality for $1 per piece. All of the pieces I picked up were $1. The only exception being that three pairs of the earrings came as one set and the set was $1. While I would never call this my good jewelry it is good enough for everyday use and I will personally get a lot of use out of the pieces and keep my eye on the daily arrivals page for items that suit my taste. Shop Miss A is a great, inexpensive way to fill in your everyday jewelry. Just watch out for the chains.

The Daily: October 24th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope you had a fabulous weekend. I spent most of it sorting through clothing. The summer clothes were taken out of the closet and those that remained in good enough condition to see another summer were folded up and put away for the return of the sun while those that did not survive were repurposed or discarded depending.

This year was really rough on the clothes. While there were some days where I couldn’t walk at all this summer, I did try to vary my walk time to avoid the full heat of the sun. Yet even walking in the mornings and early evenings took their toll.

After my first summer actively trying to lose weight I realized that was going to happen, and because of that I tend to pick up the packs of Hanes t-shirts to wear on my walks. They are inexpensive and usually durable. There does come a point though where no matter how well you wash them, they are going to look too dingy for use. There is only so many times you can wash the sweaty salt stains out before the material gives up the ghost.

And this year, was the final year for most of mine. In the sprung I will be picking up a new pack of them. I know it isn’t very fashion conscious of me, but I tend to get them a little over sized so I can get a little air movement in the hottest parts of the summer. I would rather look like I am wearing a bit of a tent if it brings a little heat relief than look fabulous while passing out from heat exhaustion.

It’s a choice.

but one i won’t have to make until next spring. It is still warmer than it should be at this time of year, but the summer’s heat has definitely broken. For that I am very happy. I am also happy to have my fall and winter wardrobe finally out of it’s summer storage as well. I even started looking on line at dresses for New Year’s Eve. Even if we do something quiet at home I really like to pick out something nice to see the new year in. I went on XPlusWear and I am in love with several of their dresses. I also like they are in my size. While the more form fitting ones aren’t really my style some of the classic silhouettes are just stunning. I’m trying to decide between a silver and white one or a classic black dress. (Honestly I may end up with both because the prices are good and they have my size. They have a huge sale going on now.)

I have some fabulous heels I picked up for New Years and both would go well with them. Somehow I always end up picking up the heels first and then dragging my feet on the dresses. I’ve had a few at home new years where I put on the heels and pair them with fuzzy pajama pants because I didn’t manage to find a dress. I’ll admit that always tickles me, but this year I am going to try for the full ensemble as well as the pre new years at home spa day.

Today’s Look

Primer: Yensa Tone Up Primer Essential Glow

Foundation: Beauty Blender Bounce Liquid Whip Foundation

Blush/Bronzer/Highlight: RealHer Ultimate Glow Getter Cheek Trio

Eyeshadow: Coraline palette from Makeup Revolution

Mascara: Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Magnet mascara

Lips: Patrick Ta’s She’s Expensive Lip Gloss

Today I went with the Yensa primer because I like it and it works well for me. It is a classic and a toner I reach for a lot. It has a little bit of a glow to it but it isn’t too brightening. It does go really well under matte foundations though. It also feels really good on the skin.

When I was cleaning things out I found three sample foundation packs so i will be using them and trying to decide if i want to pick them up. I think they came from Sephora orders. Today’s sample was Bounce from Beauty Blender. I remember seeing this when it came out and how it had the dip in the side of the bottle for dispensing the product and then using it so you didn’t have to put it on your hands. I remember thinking that would get really messy really fast and then not thinking about this foundation at all. So this was my first use of it. I went with the shade 3.25 and I have to say i really like the feel of this foundation. It blended well over the skin and looks really good. It did sink into the fine lines around the corner of my mouth, but I think with a more porefilling primer it may not do that as much or as fast. I still have product in the blister pack so I may use that tomorrow with a pore filling primer and test it out. I may have to blend two shades but since I am testing the formula that is fine. This shade though is really good for me. If i can get it not to sink into fine lines I will definitely be ordering a bottle.

Today I went with the Real Her Cheek Trio. I love this palette but it is definitely more of a summer wear product. It is a great light and natural look that goes better with my bb creams for summer wear. I think it may have to be shuffled back to the summer section after today. I love the products, but this just isn’t their season.

I couldn’t resist the Coraline Palette. The blacks and purples and deep blues just spoke to me. Plus I am trying to push myself a little out of my neutral comfort zone. It is just easier to apply neutrals quickly. Colors, especially deep ones I have to think about a bit. I don’t think well first thing in the morning so I usually go for the neutrals. Today I took the time with the purples and blacks. Personally I think it turned out okay. The black was a little streaky when applied but it blended well enough. I really like this palette actually. And it is a small nine pan palette so I don’t mind keeping colors I don’t usually reach for as it is smaller. Which sounds strange, but i do tend to like the smaller palettes with a solid color story. The shadows are a little powdery, but they are workable. I tapped my brush but didn’t have a lot of fall out. And it is an $8 palette so I am more inclined to give it a little wiggle room. Or at least more than a more expensive palette would get. Just remember after applying to use a separate clean blending brush to blend out the streaky bits.

This is one of my favorite lengthening mascaras and one I will reach for and repurchase a lot. With Benefit Mascaras, I do prefer Bad Gal Bang because it has the volume I like, but as far as lengthening goes, this is really nice. Those two will always be my favorite Benefit Cosmetics products.

And finally we wrap up with Patrick Ta’s Lip gloss. It is high shine I will give it that. it isn’t sticky at all. It smells and tastes of nothing, which is fine. It feels a little slimy on the lips. It looks great, but i think in general it is just a good lip gloss. I seem to find that Patrick Ta’s products are solidly good but nothing that I get excited about. I found the same thing with the mascara and the blush. Both are solidly good products but they ride that middle line where they aren’t cravable but they aren’t bad. They are solidly good and often forgettable.

And that my darlings is me today. To be honest it was more about playing with eyeshadow and testing out a foundation sample than anything else. Right now I am loving the foundation and pleased with how my dabbling with color turned out. So all in all, I am happy a I go into the rest of the afternoon. I hope you have a great rest of Monday.

A Shop Miss A Haul

In general I am not a haul posting kind of person. Mostly because in general that isn’t how I shop. I generally find something I want and pot it on my list. Then I think about it a while and maybe wait for a sale. And then I buy the item and maybe a couple of other items to ensure free shipping. However Shop Miss A is a different kind of store. It features almost everything on it’s website for around a dollar. Most of the items I purchased were around $1 or $1.88. I think the only item I purchased that was more was the makeup brush kit for $10.00.

The entire order cost me less than $40

I have purchased a few makeup items from Shop Miss A in the past simply to try them out. I saw that they had other items but didn’t really go into the housewares, stationary or anything else really, I just stayed with the makeup. the items I tried, while a limited selection, worked well.

This time, while I did order several makeup items from Shop Miss A, I went in to almost every category in their store. I started with their new arrivals page (which is changed daily and tends to sell out quickly) and just kept going. Initially i went in because I wanted to try out more of their makeup. I have several younger family members who are just getting into makeup. They aren’t allowed to wear it out of the house yet. Their schools don’t let them wear it to class and I think the most they are allowed is clear lip gloss worn to church, but they are allowed to play around with it at home so they can learn and just have fun with it.

I figured the makeup or brushes might make decent stocking stuffers should the quality prove worth it. Once I selected items, like the single eyeshadows, eyeshadow quads and lip gloss (I already have a selection of Miss A Face products including foundation) I branched out.

I’ll admit, I ordered some to look at as potential gifts but several items I ordered because I wanted to see the quality or was just plain interested in trying out. A few things I actually needed. There is a heat mat to set down a hot hair tool without causing damage and potential fires. I was planning to get one and kept forgetting so I added it to the cart.

I love that this rolls up for easy travel

Many of my hair sticks are showing a lot of wear so finding replacements isn’t a bad idea and I have seen the hair massage tool in a lot of places and wondered about it. Picking it up here to try out is an inexpensive way to see if a tool like this is something I would use or something that really isn’t for me.

There was also a lot of cute jewelry that would be perfect for stockings if it proved decent enough quality. As always I am skeptical. And it isn’t because of the price. I’ll admit I am suspicious of the quality of $1 jewelry, but as I have had more expensive jewelry where the charm on the necklace was high quality but the chain was cheap and snapped after a few days of wear, I was willing to take a chance. Plus they had some really adorable items. I couldn’t resist these gummy bear looking earrings actually. (those are the green ones in the earring three pack).

I can never resist a pair of cure socks so I picked up a pair of those as well to see how they feel on the feet. And I love sunglasses. I have several expensive pairs as well as several cheap pairs and honestly pricy or cheap is less important to me than the look of the glasses. I was thrilled with these and I love that they came sealed in a separate foam wrapping to keep them from getting scratched up in transit.

Honestly, everything was very well packed and wrapped so that absolutely nothing was damaged in transit.

Traveling so recently has also added some of the items to my purchase list. I ordered travel nail polish remover wipes which I really hope works. I didn’t take any nail polish remover home with me and my mom didn’t have any in the house so my nails looked spectacularly bad when i returned.

I also picked up a travel case for my makeup sponge which i really could have used this trip and because I was giving their makeup up tools a try I decided to add a makeup sponge to the order as well.

And then I wrapped things up with a notebook to try out (graph paper pages), a soap tablet for a refillable soap container and soap sheets for washing my hands. They had a wide variety of scents to choose from and this is something I have been looking to purchase for a while. While I am sure it will be good for travel, there are two separate buildings I go to for various meetings (most of my stuff is done on line but there are still a few in person meetings) one has a bathroom that is almost always out of soap and the other has one stocked with soap that I am allergic to as it causes my hands to break out in an itchy rash. The soap sheets added to my purse will be quite appreciated.

Providing they work and I have no reaction to them. I will be testing them out before adding them to my bag as a staple item. In fact everything will be tested and tried out in the near future. Partially because I want to try out the items I purchased and partially because I want to determine if the quality is high enough that I can order stocking stuffers and birthday add ons.

Quite honestly I am looking forward to the testing portion of the items in this order. There are a wide variety of items and some of them are quite practical. others like the candy gloss and gummy bear earrings just look like good fun. Either way, I can’t wait to try everything out from my recent Shop Miss A Haul.

The Daily: September 19th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Do you see the photo to the side? I know, some of you are wondering why I took pictures of my shoes. But those aren’t just any shoes. Look closely, do you see? That’s right, they are close toed shoes.

Those are actually two of my favorite pairs of shoes actually. I tend to wear them from fall through spring. Thy are getting a bit worn actually and I will soon be looking for replacements, but that is not the point. The point is that in the summer they live in the closet, in a heat induced hibernation. I simply can’t wear them in the summer because I will overheat. With the exception of my walking shoes I haven’t worn closed toed shoes since May. And truthfully since we hit our first 90 degree day the first week of May, sandals arrived with Cinco de Mayo.

If you look on the calendar t=you will see that Thursday Autumn officially begins. And while my tomato plants are still producing like it’s July and I am just now starting to harvest the first of the cantaloupes (Halloween melons anyone?) the temperatures have dropped enough that I felt justified in slowly edging out a few of my favorite early fall pieces. Like the shoes. It also helps that this weekend the strap broke on my sandals. While I purchased a couple new pairs in the spring this was the pair that I was hoping would last one more summer. You know that really comfortable pair that despite how fab they feel were discontinued by the brand and you can’t find anywhere any more? This was my pair. I hoped they had one last summer in them and they did, barely. So away they went and to make them feel like they survived to the end of the summer I took out the first of the fall shoes.

Not that I think the shoes actually care, but I am so ready for fall and it seemed like a good reason. I also felt like today needed a bit of glitter and I started taking out some fall makeup. But we’ll get to that below. Today though, I was feeling like fall, despite the overflowing tomatoes.

got a hair cut over the weekend. The bangs were trimmed and I had layers put in. It feels so much lighter and has a lot more movement.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: NARS All Day luminous weightless foundation

Setting Powder: Fenty Beauty Pro Filter in Cashew

Bronzer: Viseart Bronze Noix

Blush/Highlighter: Natasha Denona Bloom Blush and Glow Palette

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stamp Kit

Shadow: Maybelline Color Tattoo cream shadow in Knockout and Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow Foil

Mascara: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag mascara

Lips: Guerlain Velvet Lip in Black Red

like I said i was feeling fall today and for me that meant getting out an actual foundation instead of a tinted moisturizer. I went for the NARS because it is beautiful And it works well with the Tatcha Primer underneath. We all know I don’t need an excuse to use the Tatcha primer. It is one of my absolute favorites. It lasts forever and is well worth the price.

The NARS foundation is a good one. You have to shake it before use, especially if you don’t use t everyday. I always forget how little product you actually need for this foundation. A little goes a really long way and it lasts a really long time. It is a luminous formula that is still on the matte side. As you all know I am not a dewy look kind of person so for me this is perfect. it is brightening and works well. I did go a little heavy with it today because I simply forgot how little is actually needed. It is a thinner formula so it is more like a serum than a cream. Which is something to watch out for when applying. I might use this again tomorrow because I just like it.

The foundation is slightly too light for me (It is my winter shade) so I used the Fenty setting powder. It is in the shade cashew and is slightly too dark for me. The two paired well. By using the darker powder with the lighter foundation I actually got something that looks fine for me.

For the bronzer I reached for the Viseart. I like the formula and I was thrilled that it is now back in stock. For a long while they just couldn’t keep it in stock. It felt like taunting when I used it and it was out of stock. ‘Oh I like this bronzer but you can’t get it because it is out of stock. Ha Ha.’ Not that I was thinking that, but it felt that way. Now it is back in stock so I can recommend it again. It is a product that is more buildable than it is pigmented. For me this helps as i sometimes get my balance off so I like sort of drawing a light line on my cheek so I can make sure that my cheeks match before I build it up. It does blend very well also and I just find it to be a good product. And it is back in stock.

The ND Bloom palette sits in the back of the drawer because of it’s height but I really like it and need to find a way to bring it forward. I have a blush declutter coming up so perhaps once i clear a few products out I will find a way to adjust it’s location so I can reach for it more. I love the cream blush in this palette. I’m not as enamored of the highlight as I prefer something a little more subtle but I like it enough that when i take the blush out I will use the highlighter. I would still like just a pan of that cream blush though.

The iMethod stamp is a favorite so that I can get my brows to look like they match. The stencil is a permeant addition to my makeup bag, the pomade is however running very low. I will need to replace it soon. I like the pomade formula. I need to try it with my other formulas to see if they work as well with the stamp application.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag i like more and more each time I use it and I will certainly be repurchasing it. It has a fluffy hourglass wand and is fantastic with both volume and length. I haven’t had any problem with flaking either which is nice and again a reason to repurchase when this tubes time is done.

the semi dried out color tattoo was hard to work with but I do love the shade and that glitter

For shadows, I wanted to use the Glitter shadow from Hourglass. I just felt like a little shimmer for a Monday. Because of it’s size it is stored with my Color tattoos from Maybelline. So I took one of the mattes out to use. It is a bit dried out. and it was hard to use. So it doesn’t look the best and the eyes don’t match because of it, but it was still usable, barely. I may try the rehydrating with facial oil trick on it because when they aren’t dry they are fabulous. Today, not so much. We’ll see how the rehydration goes. I did love the Hourglass though. There is a little fall out mid afternoon because I didn’t use a primer. Also when I used the Hourglass with the Maybelline when it wasn’t dried out, the cream shadow helped lock in the Hourglass without a primer. They make a great pair actually. And if my attempt to save this cream shadow doesn’t work I will probably just repurchase it. It is a good formula. I may have to order it though as the drugstore almost never has the color I want when i go in.

And finally I used the Velvet Lip from Guerlain. I adore this formula. It is a bullet style lipstick but once it settles into place it stays there. I did not leave a trail of lip prints on coffee mugs and tea cups throughout the day. If it weren’t so pricey I would stock up on this formula in multiple shades. As it is, I will use this one down to the nub and purchase a refill. It looks great and is super comfortable to wear. Plus it has some weight to it so it feels extra luxe to use. Even if i am in a t-shirt working at my desk today, I felt super special putting it on. And it never hurts to use something that makes you feel special.

And so my darlings that is todays look. I was thinking fall and leaned into it hoping the weather would follow. I know we are due a few more sweltering days and it will be October before fall thinks about arriving, but I am hopeful and a little encouragement can’t hurt. So it is back to work for me now. Have a fantastic rest of your Monday.

Let’s Talk Drape Fit

Drape Fit is a styling service/subscription. For $20 per box you can have eight items sent to you to try out. The items are based on your quiz and you have the option of purchasing none, one or all of the items. There is a discount if you purchase all of the items in the box (25%). I chose to try them out partially because the price is decent (if you take off the 25% and add in the tax the entire box would cost me $185.68 which would not be bad for 8 clothing items. I also chose to try them out because they have plus sized clothing, so their items fit me.

This is my second fit and so we are in the tweaking phase. I love that when you receive the box, you can go in to the website and review each item individually so the stylist knows what you liked and didn’t like about each item. You can also request specific items. And you can choose how often you want the box. I receive this box every three months, mostly because I tend to evaluate my wardrobe on a seasonal basis and that is when I look for new pieces to fill it out. Because the weather hasn’t turned yet, I haven’t gone into my closet for adjustment yet, I’m waiting to do that when I return from my mom’s house actually. I’m also hoping the weather will have cooled down enough to make looking at my fall items easier.

the items arrayed and awaiting the trying on phase

My first box everything fit me but only one item was really in my style. So I reviewed the items and made a note of the items that I thought I might need. For me, that is heavily on the trouser side of things. I have plenty of shirts and sweaters but tend to lack the trousers. So in this fit I ended up with three pairs of trousers.

suggestion slip

Included in the box is also a slip suggesting pairing of the items so I paired the items. While the above photo shows the items laid out this is the items paired as the stylist intended.

short sleeves and maroon pants

The first set is a set of maroon high waisted wide leg palazzo pants that match the short sleeved blouse and the black boho shirt. Of these three items I really only liked the boho shirt, which unfortunately fit me in most places but was too tight across the stomach. I could have made it work, but I know I would simply hang it in the closet and not wear it because it was not comfortable. Which was a shame as I liked it. It was also one of the few items that had the problem of being too tight anywhere. Most garments suffered from too much material.

maroon and boho shirt

The short sleeved shirt fit well and actually fell nicely, but it is essentially a t-shirt with capped sleeves and an eyelet back. It is nice but it wears more or less like a t-shirt. And I don’t really want t-shorts in a box like this.

The pants of course were what I was most interested in. I did specify that i like wide legged pants, which I do. And these are. They are also made of t-shirt material which makes them feel (and look) like pajama pants. They have a high waist, which is not my thing. And then there is the length. Here is the thing. If the material is good, I can hem the pants. If they are only a little long I can wear them with heels. These are lounge pants. Which means they are not going to be worn with heels and even if they were they are still too long and it isn’t the kind of material that takes a hem well.

I know that is a lot for a pair of pants, but in previous profile and review I did mention that I liked the color maroon and that I liked wide legged pants. I didn’t say anything about the waist or material. So this time I did mention that and we will see if it inspires change.

The plaid trousers I had the most hope for as they looked nice and they paired with all of the shorts, including the russet colored shirt with the ruffled sleeves.

The pants fit well in the waist, but would have needed to be hemmed. I chose not to keep them because they were a bit tight in the calves. The shirt looks extra frumpy because it is not tucked in, but it could not be tucked in. It was way too long and it was a thick material. While the pants fit, they fit with me inside them. They would not fit the extra material of this shirt. Hence the very frumpy look. The pants were almost but not quite there. I like the color of the shirt but little else.

While the length was a problem for me the ruffled sleeves were a bit of a bust as well. I like short capped ruffled sleeves but these were a bit much. The double layer looks nice on the sleeve, but underneath the arm there is so much extra material that it just felt like bunched up cloth underneath my arm. If they adjusted the under arms it would have been better, but I know I wouldn’t have worn this shirt due to the way the sleeves felt, even if the length and thick material preventing it from being tucked in didn’t send it into frump city.

In this box they included what they are calling a black cardigan. It is open in the front and has pockets at the right height and it is a nice long length. It is however made of t-shirt material. I have a couple of these that are actual knitted sweaters and I far prefer them.

Since I have them in sweater versions I didn’t see the point in adding the t-shirt material one. It is thin enough to be relatively pointless.

The striped pants I liked with the exception of the waist. They were a little long, but they were the sort of long that could easily be worn with heels, so i was happy about that. The legs were also wider and they didn’t much anywhere. The material was of decent quality as well. It was a sort of light weight cotton.

It is just the waist. I don’t mind the tie, but the bag waist just adds mass to my midsection that really doesn’t need to be added. It fit well but I just didn’t like that extra bulk. Trust me I have plenty of bulk on my own and don’t need clothing adding more.

I know about this time you are asking yourself if there was anything I did like and the answer is yes. The final item in the box was a dress. It is a simple black dress that fits really well. I pulls in at the waist to give form to the garment and it has a loose skirt. the material is also of good quality.

Clearly when I actually wear it, I will put some shape wear underneath, but i do like the way it fits. I also like the length. It comes to just above the knee which is a good length for me, especially when I am in heels. I like the black because it suits me and i can always use a simple black dress.

It is the one item I purchased from this box. Despite the fact that there were issues with most of the garments, I feel I am getting better with each box. The suggestions that I had from my first box were taken into account here and the second box was better than the first. I am a little disappointed that it wasn’t more fall themed in the item selection. I suppose the maroon and russet, as well as the plaid paint were kind of fall-ish. But short sleeves and t-short material isn’t really going to be helpful once the weather turns. In truth this dress will only see a little bit of use right now.

Once the weather turns it will be set aside until the spring because of it’s length. (I don’t like cold legs.) heavier materials for the season would have been preferred. However I am over all pretty happy with the box, even if I am keeping only one item. Everything more or less fit, even if it wasn’t my favorite. And it is better than the last box. If this trend continues I will be happier with each box and who knows in the future, I may end up keeping the entire box.

So I took out the dress, packed everything up in the provided bag and sent it back. I paid for what i wanted to keep, even before I sent the provided bag through the mail system so I don’t have to worry about when the charges might come. I like having that control. I have also sent in detailed reviews and am awaiting the changes Drape fit makes to my next box.

Unboxing The Underclub for July 2022

We have reached the second full week of the month and subscription boxes are starting to arrive. The first to arrive is The Underclub. I love this subscription for its size inclusivity, they go from XS to 4X I believe. There is also no upcharge for larger garments. All of their sizes are the same. It is also the same in the store too. You don’t have to go off to some small dark corner or their on-line store where a few items marked plus sized live, often with an extra charge for the size increase. Nope, the whole website features everything in every size.

I also love the underwear and the quality of it.

I am on the Underclub’s one pair per month plan for $15. They have different tiers where you can receive more pairs and possibly even a bralette. For me one pair is plenty. I love having pretty underwear. I know that may sound a bit strange to say. But I have started loving it more as I have been working out more.

inside the package the underwear is contained in a small bag.

Here’s the thing, when I wear pretty underwear I feel confident and pretty. It doesn’t matter what else is going on. It is an instant confidence boost. It doesn’t require anyone else to see it. I know it and it makes me feel good. It always has. when working out, it is best to wear plain cotton undergarments that have few if any embellishments. when lace becomes sweat soaked it can turn into sand paper really fast. There is exfoliation and then there is lace burn around the legs of your bikini underwear. Not fun, recommend avoiding.

Also there is the extra laundering of workout underwear. I put it on to work out. I finish the work out and it, along with my other work out clothes, go into the laundry, a fresh pair of underwear going on with the rest of the post shower clothing. So work out underwear needs to take a beating.

There is something magical about coming out of a post work out shower and putting on a nice, lacy pair of underwear. It feels like a reward for putting in the effort. As silly as that sounds, it is my daily reward to myself. and when you are doing long haul weight loss those little rewards come in very handy.

But lets look at this month’s pair. The photos wash out the color a little bit but this pair is a light blue lace. They are bikini style and have a scalloped lace edge. I love the look of a scalloped lace edge. I have to admit it.

As always I inspected the pants when they arrived, looking for loose strings and missed stitches. There were none, I then sent them through the wash and inspected again. Still no problems. These are very well constructed garments. This pair has an added cut out detail in the back. For some reason the last few pairs I’ve received have had this. I’m guessing it is a popular design. I have to admit I like it more for practicality than looks (although it does look nice). Some of my lacier underwear can be hard at first to tell which is front and which is back. These you can tell the difference blindfolded.

And while i don’t take my shower blindfolded sometimes I don’t have my contacts in while in the shower so orientation by touch can be somewhat important. (Because a lot of my exercise is outside sometimes sweat mixed with sunscreen can cloud up my contacts, so I take them out for cleaning or replacement before the shower, in case you ae wondering).

I really like this pair and all told The Underclub is one of my favorite subscriptions. The garments always fit perfectly and they feel good to wear. I have never had a pair that wasn’t worth the subscription fee, and July’s is no exception.

Unboxing the June 2022 Underclub

That’s right, the June subscriptions have started to arrive. Well, the first of the June subscriptions has arrived anyway. And there is no surprise that it is The Underclub. While the Underclub has several different subscription tiers, including one where you can add a matching bralette, I have the single pair for $15 per month tier.

And honestly, I have never regretted it. Every pair I have ever received from them has fit perfectly and has been high quality. And as I have had this subscription for well over a year at this point I can say that the underwear wears well over time. Most of the pairs I have received are still in rotation in my drawer.

The only ones I have had to release from service have been because I lost enough weight to go down a size. My earlier subscriptions were a size larger. While a few of them i can still get by with there were a few styles that just didn’t do well with a smaller me. I’m sure they too would have lasted longer, but they just no longer fit.

June’s selection

I went onto my member page and adjusted my sizing (it took two seconds) and now i am back to the right sized underwear. I know I say this each time this subscription comes in, but one of my favorite things about this subscription (besides getting a fabulous pair of undies each month) is it’s size inclusivity. They have XS and XL (I was a 3X and am now down to a 2X but they go all the way up to 4X) and in their bralettes, their XXL goes all the way up to a 40DD. As I am a 40D this really helps me out.

And, here is the best part. The XL (or XS) aren’t in separate sections. That’s right, you don’t have to go diving into a small section of the site and looking at the limited options that might be available in your size. Both their subscription and their store (where members get 20% off) have every item and style in every size.

I know it doesn’t sound like much, but it is kind of a big deal. Especially in underwear. There are many places that either don’t stock my size apparently in the belief that if you are over a certain size you should just go commando, or it feels like they make the decision about what styles you should like based on only offering you certain styles. which is not only annoying in general when I am trying to shop, but something I also find very condescending. After all the general public isn’t going to even see my underwear, why should they get a say in what type i should wear?

details

So the fact that The Underclub is so size inclusive means that this is a subscription (and store) I really enjoy. Plus I love pretty underwear. If I am wearing pretty underwear, I feel pretty. And I know some people use that as date underwear, but let me tell you pretty underwear has helped me feel better about even bad work meetings with overbearing bosses. Just knowing I am wearing it makes me feel good. And sometimes that little boost can really help.

And June’s pair is very pretty. I am really happy it is since it is my Birthday Month and i like thinking that my birth month is special. This month’s selection is a pale pink and is in the style called Lanya Lace Cheeky in Peach Whip. I suppose it could be called peach but I always think of peach as having a little more orange tone to it. This is a delicate pink.

While the color is pretty, I also love the scalloped edges to the lace. For me scalloped edging always makes the underwear feel a little sexier to me. I think partially because my work out undies are all Hanes cotton with the straight edging on the legs. The scalloped edge makes them feel that much different from the work out pears. The lace of these undies are soft and not at all scratchy. The waist band is satin covered elastic that feels quite durable so I am sure it will last just as well as the other pairs I have received.

As always, when i received the subscription, I checked over the pair for loose threads and stitches. I found none, then I sent them through the wash and checked again. Again, there were no problems. And yes I know it sounds like a little much, but I just can’t shake my grandmother’s voice from my head. She always did the same thing and I find that even though she is long gone, it is still habit and I am unable to resist checking them again for loose threads after the first wash. It was her quality check system. And it has become mine.

The Underclub passed. I’ve never had a pair from them that didn’t.

This month’s selection is perfect for me to celebrate my birthday month. They are pretty and I will feel pretty this month when I wear them. And in addition, I will feel pretty many more months to come as they continue through my rotation.

My first box from Drape Fit

I have a confession to make. I don’t like to shop. I do not like going into stores flipping through racks upon racks of clothing only to find nothing. Part of it is my size. While I am working towards a healthier me, I am still a size 22-24, depending on the garment. And most stores don’t stock a wide array of garments in my size. In addition, what they stock might not be to my taste. As a result, I purchase a lot of my clothing on line. So for me a clothing subscription seems like a great idea. It sends clothes that are in my size to me and are presumably to my taste.

The trick is finding a clothing subscription that is in my size. A while ago Drape Fit sent an e-mail to me telling me of their subscription. After seeing that they did have my size (and that in many categories I was not top of the range) I decided to have a go with it. They did send a discount code for anyone who sees this and decides that they want to give it a go themselves. It is just for you. It is DFIS10 and you can get $10 worth of credits from each purchase. And while discounts are nice, the purpose of this post is to go over my first box experience. After all a discount is only of value if the box is worth it. So let’s take a look.

(incidentally I managed to somehow delete the pics of me trying on the clothes. Which I didn’t realize until after the bag was on it’s way back, next time, I’ll make sure there is a try on portion.)

didn’t need denim but it fit perfectly so I was tempted

Drape Fit has boxes for Men, Women and Children. They have an array of sizes including Plus sized women and Big and tall men. I’m not sure how wide an array the men’s styles are but the women’s sizing was pretty broad. The styling fee is $20. They send a pre addressed postage paid bag to return what you don’t like and you have five days to try on and decide what you would like to keep.

the pants fit perfectly but I have three nearly identical pair in my closet

Because any stylist takes a while to learn about you, I never really expect much in my first box. For me the first box involves getting the sizing down and seeing how detailed the style quiz is at the beginning.

When I took the style/sizing quiz I was very impressed. While they did ask my general size they also went garment by garment. For me this is important because there are some shirts that I have to get larger depending on the style. (I am a 40 D). However if I get items sized for my bustline then often the pants are too large. With this quiz I was asked what size I took in jeans as well as slacks and then I was asked different shirt and dress styles so they had a better idea of how garment’s fit me as well as what it was I actually liked.

Just didn’t like anything but the belt. Oddly the pants fit really well but the belt was too small. I needed two more sets of holes

And here is the thing. They sent four shirts, three pairs of pants and a dress. All fit me. without a struggle or sagging. Every single item fitted me. Now I didn’t particularly like all of the items, but they fit me. And while I didn’t specifically like each item, they all fell well into the guidelines of what I said I wanted. That I sort of expected. I figured they’d send garments and then i would get to evaluate each item and then with each box it would get better as the categories narrowed slightly.

flared wide at the narrowest part of me making me look like a giant box, but it fit me comfortably

The box included colors I liked, did not include colors or patterns that I didn’t like and the only thing that they included that I didn’t ;like was a pair of jeans. (Technically I suppose they are jeggings but I asked for no denim and they sent denim. And to be fair they might have just thought of them as jeggings instead of denim.)Everything else was spot on.

loved this shirt and ended up keeping it

So did I keep anything? Yes. I kept the white shirt. The dress was fine but the slip underneath was too short and hit strangely when I sat down making the otherwise comfy dress not so comfy. The long sleeved gray shirt I liked except for the waist. I hate elastic on my wasted from shirts. I would rather tuck in a shirt or leave it out, but I just don’t care for the elastic. I also didn’t like the material. But the style was great. The yellow shirt I liked but it needed to either be a little shorter or a lot longer. The olive shirt was nice but the elastic hit right under my bust and the wide flare of the bottom half of the shirt made the narrowest part of me look wider and me a lot boxier.

needed to be either a little shorter or a lot longer but loved the color and it was super soft material I hated to send this back but it just didn’t look good on me.

With pants, the black pants were exactly like three other pairs I already poses making them fit with my wardrobe but unnecessary to add. I didn’t like the capri pants and the one think I really don’t need more of in my wardrobe right now are jeans or jeggings.

So one white shirt is added to my closet.

dress was great but the slip underneath was too short and tight which again was a shame as I liked the dress.

In the questionnaire you could pick a budget. I chose no garment over $50. My most expensive item was $32.75. (I also chose not to add any accessories like jewelry, shoes or handbags.) While I might bend on the jewelry at some point I need to whittle down my shoe and handbag collection before I look at adding to it. The lowest priced item was $25. over all I would say the pricing was spot on. With the white shirt my guess was $30-$35 and it was $27.50.

And the cost was easy to see as they sent a sheet breaking down each garment. In addition there was also a list from the stylist stating which items she saw paired together and explaining why she sent them

price break out

I was very impressed with the sizing and the quality of the garments as well as the pricing. If you choose to buy the entire selection sent to you then you get a 25% discount on the pricing. To be honest, while this box wasn’t exactly there, it wasn’t that far off. I could easily see a time when I would purchase the entire box.

return bag

And once I received the box and tried everything on, I went onto the website and reviewed each item and in addition to reviewing them I let them know what I was keeping and what I was returning. I then chose to go ahead and pay for the item I am keeping, which meant that I controlled when that charge went to my account. I wasn’t sending in the box and letting them process the return and then realize I kept something and then waiting until they charged my card.

I did that on the site before I even sent the box back. It took less than a day for the charge to appear. As I have had trouble with waiting for charges to go through before, I really liked that aspect of the box. Over all I was very impressed with my first box and can’t wait for my next. This box has the subscription option of once a month, once every other moth or once every three months. I chose every three months, because I think quarterly is about right for me. As I purge some of my older garments from the closet, that might change, but for now I am happy. And if I decide I need more I can always request a style box whenever i want one sent to be regardless of the schedule. It seems very flexible and I am interested to see how this subscription progresses. For now, I am sending most of the clothes back and keeping one very nice new shirt.

If you try this out, don’t forget you can get $10 credit for any item you purchase with the code DFIS10. Happy shopping!
