The Underclub has been one of my favorite subscriptions. For $15 per month you receive one pair of luxury underwear. There are different tiers of course, different prices and one I think where you receive three pairs a month. There is even a new bralette subscription available. For me, the one new pair a month is absolutely perfect. It is a once a moth treat but I never feel like it is too much.
Many of you may realize that thee was not an unboxing posted for April. It isn’t because I took a month off, it is because my subscription was never sent. Apparently the package was never picked up. So I am trying to work that out with The Underclub. I know they are changing over their website at the moment and I think because of this communication is slow, but it is progressing. I will keep you posted on how that plays out.
One of the reasons that I adore The Underclub is that they are very size inclusive. They have the extra small sizes as well as the much larger ones and it is easy to adjust the sixing of your subscription. I went from a 3X down to a 2X and it was just a few clicks and the changes were made. I also like that everything comes in this wide size range. You can go on find something you like in the main store and not be shunted off to a small plus sized section with a limited amount of products. And they have some adorable things in their on-line shop in addition to their subscriptions (members get a discount of course.) Some of their sleepwear and cami sets are just fabulous.
This month’s pair of undies comes from their own line of underwear (The Underclub brand). They do have other brands as well. I really like the quality of the Under club pieces. As usual. I opened the subscription as soon as it came. The package is a simple plastic mailer that easily fits in the mailbox. After opening I inspected for loose threads and pulled stitches. I found none. Then it went in the wash and after coming out, I inspected it again, still no pulled threads or dropped stitches.
This set is a lovely deep purple with a really nice pattern to the lace. The material itself is whisper soft and the underwear fits perfectly. (the lace is also see through, which is why there are no try on pictures, I love you but there are limits to photos I am willing to post). The waistband is fitting but not too tight and it falls in just the right place to be comfortable wearing all day. There is a little cut out in the back as an added decorative element. I think it looks nice which is a good thing as I have seen this detail appear more and more lately. Over all I am very pleased with this set and am already looking forward to next month.
Of course hopefully April will get sorted and that will be here as well. I will definitely keep you updated on the customer service and missing subscription replacement policy. As they have been really good with everything else I am interested to see how that works out. For now, I am enjoying May’s subscription and happy to keep the Underclub subscription in general.
As expected, the Winter returned for Easter Weekend. Temps dropped and the rain came off and on. The sound of aster this year was rain on canvas as we were holding most things out doors. which is fine. Well for me anyway. I am feeling a little bit stuffy and puffy with a weather change headache today, but i think several others left with the starts of head colds.
While I love their dresses for the symphony and other outings, they do amazing wedding dresses and bridesmaids gowns. I’ll link the sale below for those interested. They have both great quality and affordability going for them so I highly recommend them.
This past weekend was an amazing event for me and mine. It has been several years since I have seen many of those attending and even with the social distancing it was nice to catch up in person. And to see more than the head and shoulders of the people I was talking to. Video calls only go so far. Don’t get me wrong I love them, but it is a different sort of communication from in person chats.
Today is rainy and I am stuffy with itchy watery eyes. I thought about makeup, but then I had a bout of sneezing with watery eyes that made me spend several moments with my box of Kleenex and I realized that attempt at makeup would merely be a farce. And so I skipped it. I may sort through my masks and find something soothing and depuffing for an afternoon facemask at my desk, but today was not a day for makeup. Some days are just like that.
But as for me, since I took a long weekend, I need to pop an allergy tablet and get back to work. I enjoyed the fun and family of the three day Easter Weekend but it does leave me scrambling to catch up. So nose blown, and water eyes wiped, it is time for me to get back to work. I hope everyone had a fantastic Easter.
It started with the dress. The dress was sent to me by Ever Pretty to try out and review. My opinions, as always are my own. I went into the details of the dress and the quality of the materials, shipping times and fit in the initial post of the dress when it arrived. This link will take you to that post. The dress was tried on just to see about fit and to start planning the rest of the outfit.
So the hair is simply tied up out of the way, there is no makeup and I learned I needed a body shaper under the dress just to smooth out my lines. The dress however fit perfectly. And so Now, knowing that the Ever Pretty dress is fantastic, I can move on to other elements.
I’ll admit, I am kind of excited this year. There have not been many family gatherings in the past two years and my family has a lot going on. thee is Easter of course but we are combining it with some christenings. There was a family wide decision to simply make this an event rather than a simple Easter Sunday. I think all of us have been denied events for so long that everyone just used it as an excuse.
And I used it as an excuse to treat myself to some of my favorite hair care products. We are starting with a kit from eSalon. This is a custom hair dying kit that you can have mailed to you. The company is fantastic. I not only get the kit but I also order root touch up which they send me in the same shade as the hair color I chose to order. I think my first time ordering this kit was in 2019 and I have been ordering it routinely ever since.
They dye is great, I never have any harsh breakage and it resists fading for a really long time. It is more often that my roots will grow out before the color fades. They also have a color rinse so if you think the color is fading a bit you can give it a little boost. As I try to extend my time between dying my hair as long as I can, the root touch up and color rinse are fantastic additions to the kit. I actually ran out of root touch up, which is why my roots have been showing And I forgot to order it with the batch of dye so I will be putting in a later order. But the hair dye is my first pre-Eater hair purchase.
The second item is the shampoo and conditioner from Grow Gorgeous. It is the Intense line and if you are looking for thickening shampoo and conditioner that also leaves your hair detangled and silky soft, this is one of the best I have found. The scent of the shampoo is a bit on the strong side and it is an intense salon scent. But it is so worth it. My hair always feels thicker and just plain fabulous when I use it. So I went ahead and picked up the set. I generally purchase My Grow Gorgeous products from the Skin store. Currently they are having a 25% off sale, It is site wide not just for hair care or these specific products. Just thought you’d like to know if you are stocking up on beauty products. Just use code CELEBRATE and if you spend more than $150 you get a free 13 piece beauty bag (worth $188). As an extra incentive to stock up. The beauty bag looks kind of amazing. You can see the products here.
This is one of those brands that i was introduced to either with a Glossy Box or a Look Fantastic Box.
I can’t remember which and I think they have been featured in both. They are a UK brand I believe and well worth looking into. I have enjoyed every product i have tried from the brand thus far, with this shampoo and conditioner set being my absolute favorite. Plus as they are in tubes, I find them much easier to pack for a trip.
And the third indulgence I added for this Easter’s hair care line up is the Color Wow Dream Cocktail. It is coconut infused and I know I often complain about coconut. It isn’t that I don’t like coconut, I do actually. It was just that there was such a plethora of coconut infused products for a time that coconut seemed to be everywhere. And it was a bit much. Plus sometimes people go a little crazy with the fake coconut scent. This Dream Cocktail does have a light coconut scent, but it is very light and very natural smelling so I am fine with it. And even if i wasn’t I would let it go just to use this product.
The Color Wow Dream Cocktail is interesting. When you first put it in your hair you will be tempted to think it doesn’t do anything. That is because it is heat activated. It doesn’t do much until you blow dry our hair or use other heated tools. Then it is like this Dream cocktail coats every strand in silk. That is the only way I can describe it. It is a heat protector and hair renewal serum in one. My hair is softer and curls are glossier without being greasy. It is almost like a healthy highlighter for your hair. Each strand seems to have a healthy glow about it. And I am happy to include it in my Easter Hair Care Line up this year.
I haven’t decided on a style yet, But i do know that with this dress from Ever Pretty and this selection of hair care items, I will look great and my hair will be healthy and fabulous.
Even though snow is coating the ground, Easter is coming. And this year it is going to be a big one for the family. The first together in a while and three christenings on top. So I have begun to gather the ensemble. The first item on the list, the dress.
This dress was gifted to me by Ever Pretty. If you’ve heard of them, then you are probably thinking wedding or bridesmaids dresses. That was actually how I heard of them. A friend of mine outfitted her bridesmaids from their site because they had really good prices, good quality items and a wide array of sizes. In addition, everyone lived in different areas which made it difficult to get together for dress shopping (especially these days) so the on line site was perfect and everyone looked stunning at the wedding.
Actually they have a sale going on right now If you by four or more bridesmaids dresses you get 20% off with the code BRIDE20. So if you are outfitting a wedding party, now might be a good time to pop over to Ever Pretty.
They have bridesmaid dresses’, wedding dresses, prom dresses as well as general evening gowns. Their dresses range from the simply elegant minimalist designs to the more lacy and sequined creations. So there is a lot to choose from. The prices are also really good. They specialize in both beautiful and affordable dresses. The dress in these photos comes from their Mother of the Bride line. For me it is perfect for this Easter.
I don’t know about where you live but Easter always seems to be the time when Winter decides it isn’t done quite yet. And after a childhood of shivering in Easter dresses made of thin material and knee length skirts I go for longer dresses. I also look better in darker colors. Easter Pastel dresses’ can make me look a little jaundiced. This deep blue is perfect for me. And I love that the color is so saturated. So this was perfect for me. The dress also sets the foundation for everything else. Jewelry, shoes, handbags, hair and even body shapers underneath will be determined now that the dress is here.
When I ordered the dress from Ever Pretty, I chose the size and used the chart they provided. The sizes vary from dress to dress though so you need to look at the specific sizing chart for the dress you are looking at purchasing. I really like this actually. Sometimes the cut of a dress simply means that the fit of the dress will change. I really like that Ever Pretty Takes this into account when making their individual sizing charts. It makes me more confident when ordering.
For me, the fit through the bodice was spot on and the length of the skirt is perfect for me to wear with heels. Which means I need to do no hemming, which is fantastic. The cuffs are slightly large around my wrists, but I find that with almost any lantern sleeve. I absolutely love lantern sleeves. They are one of my preferred sleeves and actually I plan on tightening them up by using a set of my Dad’s cufflinks. When he died his collection of cuff links were parceled out and they are worn for special events, so I’m actually kind of pleased by the excuse to use them to slightly tighten the sleeves.
And actually with that slight exception of the easily adjustable cuffs, everything matched the specific size chart for the dress and the colors were exactly as they appear on the website. I have no complaints in that regard.
The details on the sleeves are lovely. The inside is a net sheath for the arm, with the outer sleeve sliced open to reveal the inner sleeve. The stitching is really well done and the detail really makes the dress. I also love the wider neckline. It is open and will give me a chance to show off whatever necklace I decide to pair with the dress, but it doesn’t dip too low. It has a really nice curve without displaying my cleavage.
Every part of this dress is well thought out. The zipper in the back slides easily and the stitching around it is done so that the material will not get caught in the zipper, which is nice. The material does have some stretch in it so there is a bit of flexibility to the fit and the bodice has an interior lining. I will be getting a body shaper to wear under it so the lines will look a little smoother, but I wanted to try on the dress before I decided what sort of shaper to pick up.
This dress from Ever Pretty is the perfect dress for me to wear for the upcoming Easter events. The material is of good quality and thick enough to protect me from shivering should the weather take a chilly turn and light enough that should it be warm, I won’t sweat. The length and sizing were exactly what was listed on the site and the time from order to delivery was only two weeks. The next time I need a dress for an event, I am going right back to the Ever Pretty site. They have a wide array of sizes and styles and I know that if my measurements fit the sixing chart than the dress will fit me. And that is always a huge relief when buying clothing on line. But for now, I have my Easter dress and need to figure out the rest of the items to go with it. It’s been quite a while since I assembled a special event’s outfit and it is ridiculous how excited I am to actually get to do so now.
Ah the beginning of the month and the arrival of one of my favorite subscription boxes. Or bags I suppose as the Underclub subscription arrives in a discrete plastic mailer. I love this subscription for many reasons. One is that pretty underwear makes me feel more confident. I now it is silly but if I am wearing pretty underwear, even if i am the only one who knows it, I feel more confident. I always have.
The second reason I love The Underclub is it’s size inclusivity. All of their garments are offered in the full size range. There is no going to their on line story and being shunted off to a small corner of the website for the few items they have in your size. From XS to 3X they have you covered. Its a small thing, but being able to shop in the store instead of being relegated to a small corner of the website just makes me very happy.
I have also been impressed with the quality and this month is no exception. This month there is a pair of bikini briefs (mostly see through which is why I am not wearing them in the photos. I like that it is green for St. Patrick’s day but a more subdued green. It is not only a little more sophisticated a color but it is something I would wear all year round. as always I inspected the garment for loose stitches and found none. Then I sent it through the wash, inspected again and then tried them on. They fit beautifully and have great subtle details. The slight material overlap at the hip bone, the slight variation in the lines on the material. It is a simple bikini brief but someone clearly took the time to think about the details.
And they fit comfortably. For those who routinely read you may recall I lost enough weight that I had to adjust my sizing. It was a quick few clicks on my account page and it was done. No muss, no fuss. And I have always found their sizing to be spot on with measurements
. There is no running small or lager, The measurements are accurate. Which I personally love. I’ve had this subscription for over a year now and I can tell you, this is not a subscription that is going anywhere. I expect to keep it for a long time.
I love socks. I love wild and crazy socks. I love soft and fluffy socks. In general, I just love socks. I think because as my weight increased, it was one clothing item that didn’t change. I now that sounds a little strange but clothes change when you gain weight and so does your relationship with them.
I am a very tactile clothes shopper and in larger garment sizes sometimes the cloth doesn’t feel as nice. Plus there is this material I always think of as fat girl cloth. It has elastic woven in with the fibers so it can fit a wider variety of sizes and stretch with you. It also has a weirdly burnt rubber smell when it comes out of the dryer. I’ve never seen men’s garments made from it, no matter how large the size, hence the name. For a while at least half my closet was made from this material and one of the best things about losing weight has been eliminating some of those garments.
In addition, for me, as my weight increased there was the desire to not be seen. Not to draw attention to myself. So I chose darker colors with no patterns or eye catching anything as though it would help me blend into the wall.
With socks, I never had to worry. My feet are between a women’s 7 -7.5 and that hasn’t changed with the weight gain. So I can indulge in my fuzzy fabrics, soft textures and since I generally wear shoes when I leave the house, the socks are covered by shoes and trouser legs. So I can get as crazy as I like. As my weight slowly decreases, I am broadening my clothing selection , bot I still love my wild socks. Because very few people get to see them, they are kind of something special just for me.
A while ago I had a sock subscription but the subscription was discontinued. I decided it was time to go and find a new one to try out. So I poked around Cratejoy for a bit. I love finding subscriptions to try out when I am on there. Sometimes they are fabulous and I keep them, other times I try for a few months and let them go.
I have high hopes for this one. Sock Panda is a sock subscription as the name suggests. There are women’s subscriptions (which I have), men’s and even a tween’s so socks for everyone. It is $14 per month, although you can get discounts if you go for a longer term. At the moment I am trying them out and going month to month. If I decide I like it enough to keep long term (generally after about three months I’ll make that decision) also at the moment they have a 35% offer going on (use code BESTGIFT35). with the Sock Panda you get one pair of socks each month. In addition, with every order, Sock Panda gives one pair of socks to someone in need. According to the card that came with the socks this month they have donated over 143,000 pairs to shelters, hospitals, schools and communities.
I love that.
It makes me feel much better about adding the subscription to my list.
Plus I don’t always remember to change into my sweat socks when I work out so I have destroyed much of my sock collection through extra heavy use.
This is my first month with this subscription. The socks have a makeup of 85% Peruvian Cotton. 20%nylon, and 5% spandex. The design is cute. One sock has a man with his face replaced by a cell phone and the pother a woman with her face replaced by a cell phone. while I like the designs I would have preferred the image on the foot rather than on the ankle part of the sock, mostly because I tend to scrunch my socks down rather than wear them pulled all the way up. But that is personal preference. And I do like the pink foot part.
The socks feel like they are a good quality. They fit well with the heel being just a tiny bit high. But on me that is not unusual. The size range is from women’s 6-10 I believe and I am a 7-7.5. A little high on the heel is how most of my socks sit. So I am not surprised. But it does mean that these socks fit me as well as the socks I pick out for myself in the store. As a first pair, this was quite the success. I have a nice new pair of bright socks. It always makes me very happy to pull on a new pair of socks. It is one of life’s many little pleasures. And I am pleased that because of my purchase, someone else gets to feel that sensation as well. Because some days a fresh pair of socks makes the entire world feel just a little bit brighter. I think I will be keeping this Sock Panda subscription for a while.
That’s right my darlings, it is the first subscription arrival of the month. And it is hands down one of my favorites. The Underclub has several tiers, some of them including multiple pairs of undergarments each month and of course their website sells fantastic sets, not just of underwear but pajamas and Cami sets as well. Everything I have ever received from them whether it is a bralette and undie set or a camisole and short set (which is my favorite pair of summer weight pajamas actually) has been of excellent quality. Plus it is size inclusive so you can go on their site, go into their on-line store and everything will come in your size, from XS to XXXL. It is amazing.
I know i say that pretty much every month when this subscription arrives, but it is still one of my favorite points about the subscription. Pretty undies make me feel confident no matter what situation I am in. Underwear shopping often makes me feel bad about myself because I don’t look like the model wearing the underwear (and never will even i I did lose all of my extra weight). Even when I was in the best shape of my life I never felt that I lived up to the models pictured. And quite honestly that sucks. And I hate that part. You shouldn’t have to go through self torture just to acquire something that makes you feel confident.
And so I really love this subscription. I can shop on their site and not be shunted off to a small corner where the plus sizes live. So I will probably continue to praise them for that every month.
And then there is the underwear. Thus far in over a year of membership, I have not gotten a pair of undies from The Underclub that I haven’t liked. Some I naturally like better than others, naturally. But I have liked them all. Sometimes for different reasons. Last month for example, it was a plain black pair of bikinis in a soft material. It looked pretty average, but then (after washing) I put them on and they are hands down the most comfortable pair of bikini undies that I own. And I kind of want them in every color.
The subscription tier I am on is $15 per month and in general they ship out at the first of the month and arrive by the seventh. The subscription renews on the 11th of the month (So you pay for February January 11th). Due to the postal service being a little slower than usual (for obvious and understandable reasons) The Under Club seems to be mailing their subscriptions out sooner than usual. This actually showed up in my mailbox on February 3rd. which is pretty early for them. I’m not going to complain though. Earlier isn’t a bad thing.
But shall we look at what came in this month’s subscription? As always February they seem to go a little extra fab. This was no exception. It is a set of burgundy lace bikinis with a lovely keyhole detail in the back. The lace is soft and done in an almost floral print (it looks like leaves). Around the legs the material is beautifully scalloped.
As is typical for me, I inspected the set when it came in and found no loose strings or missed stitches. I then put them through the wash and inspected again. Still fabulous. And the fit is absolutely perfect.
I have had to adjust my sizing before. I was wearing a 3X and then I lost enough weight to go down to a 2X. Changing the sizing was super easy. It was just two button clicks on my account and it was done. They have a really great sizing guide on their site and their measurements are pretty accurate. Plus nothing I’ve received has shrunk in the wash so it remains fabulous.
I have to say I am very pleased with the burgundy color as well. In February pinks and reds abound. I like both, but there is something just a little classier about the burgundy. And by a strange coincidence I actually have a bra that matches. It is the same color exactly but the lace has a slightly different detail. Still it looks like a nice set together. Pretty underwear is a confidence boost. A matching set of undies is like confidence boosting battle armor.
At least in my world.
I am personally thrilled with this month’s Underclub Selection and plan to keep this subscription going for a long time to come. It is a once a month treat whose value far outstrips it’s cost.
So often the focus is on the new and the different and the things I am trying out. I know, not surprising, this is a review site. But there are a few things that right now i use on a daily basis that I think deserve mentioning. At one time they were all things I tried out and now, they have become standards. So here are five products that I use day in and day out.
The first up has to be the Soda Stream. For a long time I used a plastic bottle for the Soda Stream. It was good, but after a time the plastic has to be replaced. So this past year I switched to the glass bottle for the Soda Stream. For those who don’t know, the Soda Stream is basically just away of getting carbonation into your water. It turns tap water sparkling. It’s called a Soda Stream because it lets you make your own soda at home. They sell all sorts of flavors. I like their flavors (lemon lime is my favorite) but honestly I use it to encourage myself to drink more water.
In general I find that carbonated water doesn’t sit as heavy in my stomach as regular water does. Occasionally i will add a lemon wedge or even a cucumber slice to the water, but for the most part I drink the water plain. And I’ve actually experimented with keeping tabs on my water consumption and found I drink almost twice as much water when it is carbonated than I d when it isn’t. So for me the Soda Stream is a valuable tool in keeping me hydrated.
But if you are going to drink water, you need something to put it in don’t you? This is where item number two comes in. It is a stemless Champagne flute from the Rachel Zoe Collection. I love glassware. I do. I collect glasses of all kinds and I often have a real problem getting rid of class containers. Most end up repurposed to hold seedlings as I start my garden seeds indoors and then plant them outside. And I also like drinking my water out of a pretty glass as well. While I do use these glasses for cocktails (or mocktails) I use this one daily for my water. I like pouring it from the carafe into a pretty glass. It makes me feel as though the water itself is special and not like i am forcing myself to drink more water to stay hydrated. I love the rainbow sheen of the glass and the bubbles fizzing through it. I also love the way the glass feels in my hand. I think it elevates my water drinking and makes it feel almost decadent. And if you are trying to convince yourself to drink more water, why not make it feel decadent?
The next two items are always on my desk. Or at least within easy reach. The first of these are my ThinOptics reading glasses. They come in a variety of finishes, This set is the tortoise shell look. I like the look of them (although the black is stunning). I think part of why i like the tortoise shell is because when I was little we had a family friend who would always answer the crazy questions I would ask. He always had a good answer for everything and I thought he was the smartest person in the world. He wore tortoise shell glasses so even now when I wear them I feel like i am smarter.
I know I’m not, just like I now know that some of the answers I got to my questions back then were made up (I still admire his ability to think fast though). But I still feel smarter. And my eyes have never been great. I wore glasses as a kid, switched to contacts as soon as it was an option and now need the reading glasses. These are thin and the case is actually clipped to the back of cell phone. The Thin Optics also don’t leave the nose dents in my makeup because they are so light. They are quite amazing and extremely useful.
Useful in a different way is the jar of peppermints. They are LifeSaver Peppermint candies. Occasionally throughout the day I will find myself wanting a snack. While I do have a snack most afternoons as it keeps me from over eating at dinnertime, I can’t snack all day. The problem is that I work from home so when I leave my desk I often have to pass through the kitchen to get anywhere. that means any snack foods left out are tempting. And let’s face it, the pantry and fridge are also tempting. It can spiral very easily. Having the peppermints on my desk not only gives me something low in calories to reach for if I feel like I want a snack even though I’m not hungry, it also gives me peppermint-y breath.
I know, my computer monitor doesn’t always appreciate the fresh breath, but the peppermint flavor helps prevent snacking. Most items that I would pick up from the kitchen quickly to snack on, taste weird with peppermint. It just isn’t a good mix. So if I put in a peppermint when I am craving something I can always tell myself, that I can think about a snack after the peppermint flavor fades. And by then I am usually in the middle of something else and have forgotten about the snack I didn’t really need in the first place.
And finally one of my current top five everyday items are my Tomahawk Shades. This particular set is my favorite. It just has that nice retro vibe to it. I actually have several pair of sunglasses from them. Not all of them look retro. And I do trade them out. What I love about them is that they are good quality sunglasses that I can pick up in a variety of styles without breaking the bank. I have seen a lot of fantastic sunglasses out there and there are several really expensive ones I tend to drool over. At the same time, I know me and sunglasses. With a new pair I will be very careful for the first few weeks. Then I’ll forget. I’ll shove them up into my hair or drop them in my purse without looking for a case. I’ll toss them into the passenger’s seat of my car if I am by myself. And then I’ll forget. They will end up scratched or even sat upon. I used to get one pair of sunglasses each spring and then I would be lucky if they made it through the year. If I made it to the next spring with only one scratch on the lens I was shocked.
So I don’t spend a lot of money on sunglasses (or maybe i do if you look at the history instead of the pair) These sunglasses are not only good quality and inexpensive but they are durable. This retro looking one isn’t just my favorite because of looks but because the plastic is flexible instead of brittle. They have a bit of give to them. I’ve sat on them a couple of times at this point and routinely slide them into my purse without bothering with a case. Going into this spring they look just as good as they did last spring despite being my most worn pair of sunglasses. I actually don’t need to replace them this spring. I’ll probably still go on to the Tomahawk Shades Website to see what they have this year, but replacing them isn’t a requirement.
So there you have it mu darlings a few of the things I use on a daily basis, quietly working in the background as i go about trying out the new and the different. Somedays, it is good to acknowledge the fabulousness of everyday things.
That’s right the first of the January subscriptions has arrived. And no surprise it is the Underclub. This month they actually mailed the subscription early to make up for postal delays. That’s right, I received an e-mail notification and tracking number December 28th. Oh yeah, they saw the swamped post offices and the upcoming New Year’s Holiday and mailed out their subscription a couple of days early to make up for it.
Is it any wonder they are one of my favorite subscriptions?
well that and their size inclusivity and great underwear. I will say that this month’s selection does not photograph well. Which is a shame. As always when I receive my selection, I look it over to check the quality. As always The Underclub passed with no loose strings and no missed stitches. I know, to some that sounds bizarre, but it is part of how my grandmother taught me to shop for clothing. Any garment, from undies to winter wear parkas, had to have the stitching studied before a purchase decision could be made.
I still find myself unable to stop myself from checking the stitching on ever garment that comes into my house. The Underclub passed and went off to the wash before it could be worn. Because again, as per grandmother’s edict, no clothing can be worn until it has first been washed. I once asked her why. Her eyebrows (plucked to thin little arches and mostly the product of an eyebrow pencil) shot up to her hairline and her eyes went wide.
“Things happen in factories.”
To this day I am uncertain what unspeakable evil she thinks goes on in the packaging department, but I wash my clothes before wearing them, just in case.
Not that I suspect The Underclub of unspeakable evil. Quite the contrary. I think they are quite fabulous. This months selection (from the $15 per month category of their subscription service) looks very plain in the photograph. It is simple black material with a silkier black edging on the outer edges. Nothing very earth shattering. However once on, they fit perfectly and are perhaps the most comfortable set of undies I have put on in a long time.
Perfect fit, fantastic comfort.
I recently changed the size of my monthly selection as I lost enough weight to go down a size. (The changing of the sizes was super easy. Two clicks on the account page and I was done. Also their size guide has always been spot on for me.) And these fit me absolutely perfectly. They may not be the fanciest set in the drawer, but I am thrilled to have them. They look nice on, they have a classic appeal with no frills. I like the look of the black on black design actually. It is a subtle, understated difference that appeals to me. But it is the comfort that has this month’s Underclub selection doing a lap in the winner’s circle. This is a set I will truly enjoy wearing for a long time to come.
As I mentioned earlier I am going to be off tomorrow. I love taking New Year’s Eve off when I can. Part of it is that I really enjoy the indulgence of getting ready for New Year’s Eve. It doesn’t matter if it is going to be a massive party of just me and my baby watching movies until dawn. I like to prepare for the arrival of the new year.
Last year was a quiet one and I wore fuzzy cookie Monster themed pajama pants, a comfy t-shirt and a new pair of heels. My baby doll and I had a nice meal at home and then watched movies all night.
This year is a little different. we are still having our fancy New Year’s eve meal at home, but then we are going out. To a place where there can be a socially distanced gathering. However I have quickly realized around her that socially distanced gatherings mean that you are going to be spending more time standing than you planned. Also the event tends to have more drinks than food so we are eating first.
So there are no new shoes this year. I am instead taking out a comfortable pair of polka dot wedges. They are from American Eagle and have been in my closet quite a long time. I like the way they look and I feel like I look cute in them. Plus I’ve had them long enough that I know I can comfortable stand in them for long periods of time. While still looking cute. The dress is black eyelet lace with a fitted bodice with a loose skirt that swings when I walk. It is from Torrid and I think it will suit the occasion quite well.
One of the big issues is timing. The dinner my babydoll requested for New Year’s Eve is Beef Wellington. I’ve made it before and it is a lot of steps but it isn’t all that complicated. It just takes time. So my plan is to make the Wellington early tomorrow and put it in the fridge. Then I will do my pre party primping, including soaking in a fabulously scented bath. I picked up a new Bottle of Kneipp’s Dream Away Bath salts. The scent doesn’t make me sleepy but it does really help with the destressing.
After the destressing bath I’ll do the post bath primping, like my nails. I’m going with a base red coat to go with the polka dots in the shoes and then silver glitter on top to make it sparkle for the night. The red is from Nails Inc and has a great satiny look to it. And the silver glitter is from Smith and Cult. I love that the glitter bits are actually flat pieces and not rounded. It gives a much smoother look to the nails. It also provides a really tough top coat. It is a pain to get off the nails so I don’t wear it often, but it looks so spectacular on that I can’t resist. Other Smith and Cult Nail polishes don’t have that problem. It is just the glitter. But I think all glitter polishes are hard to get off the nails when you are done wearing them. They do make really great top coats though. I think the silver with the red will look spectacular.
Then I’ll move the wellington to the oven, dress while it cooks and have dinner with my babydoll before we go out and ring in the new year. I decided to go with the Mon Paris from Yves Saint Laurent for my perfume tonight. I like the way it smells and while it does provide me with my own little bubble of scent it doesn’t travel too far so I doubt anyone in the crowd will find it problematic. Especially given the social distance.
Over all it looks like a fun evening, with a lot of prep beforehand. All in all though, it feels like a nice way to ring in the new year. I hope yours is fun and fabulous. And I’ll be back on Monday to kick off a brand new year with all of you. Happy New Year!
