I love hair masks and I tend to use them once a week. Specifically Saturdays. It is my sort of weekend treat. Some masks recommend more than once a week treatment and The Kenra Platinum Intense Fortifying Masque is one that recommends two to three times a week. I have actually been using this mask on and off for a while. It has been an interesting hair mask to try out. First, let’s look at what the product page has to say about it.
Increase hair’s elasticity and suppleness with Kenra Professional Platinum Restorative Reconstructor. Deeply penetrate even the most damaged strands with this Keratin Amino Acid-enriched formula that strengthens the hair strand from within, targeting the cuticle at its core. By restoring broken hair bonds from within the strand, the Kenra Professional Platinum Restorative Reconstructor fortifies hair, improving elasticity, durability, smoothness and shine.
Over all not very outrageous claims for a hair mask to claim. I will say during the use of this hair mask, my hair has not had broken ends, it has had great shine and body and I have over all been very pleased with it. The scent is light and vaguely salon like. It also fades very quickly and is hardly noticeable. It is in general a really good hair mask.
However the interesting thing I have noticed is how it reacts with the shampoo I am using. In general when I use a hair mask of this sort, I let the mask replace my conditioner for that hair wash. I have used several different shampoo and conditioners since opening this hair mask, and to be honest, with most I felt the increased shine and body as I would expect but nothing else was very different. Then I used it with the Suave Smoothing shampoo. I posted the review of that last week and you can get the full review here if you’d like to read it.
In short (or what matters for this review) is that with the shampoo and conditioner set, the Suave worked well but didn’t last all that long, the effects fading before I next washed my hair. When I replaced my conditioner with the Kenra hair Mask, I hade the same effects of the smoothing shampoo, plus the effects of the hair mask and they lasted all the way until my next hair wash. This mask had the effect of extending the benefits of the shampoo it was paired with. Once I noticed this I tried it with a couple of other products I’d tried previously and while it is more noticible with the Suave, the effect was still there with the others.
Personally I think that is an added bonus. I’m not always a fan of Kenra products but this Intense Fortifying Masque I have to say got top marks from me.
One thing I have always liked about myself is my hair. While I often fight with my bangs to get them to do what I want them to do, over all, I like my hair. And I don’t mind spending the money to take care of it. There are several high end products that I love.
There are also some very good drug store ones. While I often review some of the more expensive items, it isn’t always the most expensive that make my favorites list. One of my all time favorite hair care products for detangling and heat protection is Mane Club’s One Hit Wonder which at full price costs only $8.
For me Suave is an interesting brand where hair care is concerned. Some of their products, I simply don’t care for and others work better than some pricier brands. For a long time the Suave Rosemary and Mint shampoo and conditioner set was my go to post workout as it refreshed as well as cleaned. It is still a product I return to often.
In general though I find Suave does best when it sticks to the formulas that are designed to accomplish a few simple goals. Some of their ‘fancier’ shampoos tend to try for too much. However when I saw this Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo and conditioner set from Suave, I decided to take a chance and try it out. (Each product alone costs $3.98 at my local Target)
I chose it for two reasons. The first is that we have entered the humid season where my hair goals are all about taming the humidity induced frizz and not about building volume. The humidity tends to build it’s own volume. (Or squash my hair flat no matter what I do depending on the humidity levels. My favorite is when the humidity squashes everything flat but then still has hairs rising up from my head as though I am standing too near an electrical current).
The second reason I chose it was because it’s claims were straightforward and limited: ‘Gently cleanses hair while restoring lost keratin, Controls frizz for up to 48 hours when used with Keratin Infusion Conditioner, and is Powered By QuenchLock Technology to reduce breakage.’ – Suave
I’m not sure what exactly quenchlock technology is, but I do know that no Suave Shampoo has ever caused me problems with breakage. I expect all shampoo to clean hair so mostly this shampoo and conditioner set was a frizz control agent.
So into the shower the shampoo and conditioner went. There is virtually no scent to the product, which I am fine with. The shampoo goes on easily, lathered well and rinsed clean without stripping the hair. The conditioner went on, with the same not really there scent, and rinsed clean. For the first test I let it air dry and the second I did use my hair dryer, but i did use a heat protectant spray (the above mentioned Mane Club).
I was very impressed with the way it smoothed my fly aways and smoothed my hair. I also had a lot of body so it wasn’t as if the shampoo and conditioner weighed anything down in an effort to smooth it. In addition, my hair felt silky soft.
In general I wash my hair every other day. I will, if I have been sweating, rinse my hair in between and if it looks a little greasy then I will use dry shampoo in between. Here’s the thing. With this Suave Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo and conditioner set my hair remained smooth he next day, but it did look more greasy than normal. This is not terribly surprising as I’ve had this happen before with both suave and a lot of drug store brands.
They work well, but they don’t seem to work as well for as long as some of the pricier brands. Admittedly this isn’t true for all of them, I have had several expensive brands that are out performed by Suave. However with this, the smoothing may remain for the full 48 hours it promises, but to keep my hair looking fabulous for those full 48 hours, I needed to roll in the dry shampoo on the second day.
Which is not a heart break. I restocked my Klorane Dry Shampoo for the summer because this is it’s season of glory. And even though I was a little disappointed in how fast my hair became greasy on the second day, at this time of year i am willing to give them a bit of a pass because of the way they controlled the frizz. The frizz control lasted between the washes and that was the main point of this shampoo and conditioner set. It let me wash my hair on a Monday night, look fantastic Tuesday and then by noon on Wednesday I needed the dry shampoo. Which over all is pretty good. If you are looking for a good smoothing shampoo and conditioner set to help you beat the frizz this summer, I would highly recommend looking into the Suave Keratin Infused Smoothing Shampoo. You will still need a heat protectant for hot tools and dry shampoo for summer sweat touch ups, but it is a great frizz control formula for not a lot of money.
Today my darlings, I was sabotaged. The started off fabulously. I awoke after an actual good night’s sleep. I remembered that I needed to get up early and get my walk in first thing. I even checked the air quality stats and weather reports. Partly cloudy with rain later this afternoon.
Perfect. I double checked my sunscreen, put on my walking shoes and out the door I went.
The first half of my walk was fine. The clouds prevented the sun from a murderous attack but it was still warm enough that I had worked up quite the sweat. By the time I walked the length of the trail and was ready to turn around and come back, I was sweat coated and thinking longingly of the shower and fresh clothing. The sun may not have been as broiling behind the screen of clouds, but the humidity was high so the sweat was inevitable. It was like being in a sauna you couldn’t really escape.
But I finished half the walk and turned around in high spirits. A few steps into the return trip, the wind picked up and my spirits faltered. The wind kicked up and I could literally see great yellow clouds of pollen being blown out of the trees. Much of it fell on the pathway. It was very much like the trees decided to throw confetti on my one woman parade. Because of the sweat, it stuck. By the time I got home I looked like I was rolled in yellow dust. Seriously if you have ever added too much turmeric to flour when preparing a flour dredge for chicken, that is sort of what I looked like. Minus the flour.
I stripped in the laundry room and post shower I vacuumed the floor of the laundry room. So today became more about eliminating the pollen coat then about adding makeup. So I thought that in the wake of runny eyes and a beet red dripping nose, I would talk to you about the products I did use today.
First up, we have the Advil Sinus Congestion and Pain tablets. At the moment these are my go to sinus tabs. They knock out all of my symptoms without making me feel drowsy. It still makes me feel like there is a cheese cloth between me and the rest of the world, but it is just a slight mental haze that I can still work through.
The Soda Stream is there to rehydrate after sweating buckets and to wash out any pollen that I might have taken in. I can’t do anything about my nose and lungs, but it makes me feel good to wash my throat clear with carbonated bubbles.
For my hair, which locked in the pollen in every strand, I went with the Christope Robin Cleansing Purifying scalp scrub with Sea salt in place of my shampoo. The salt gets deep down through the hair and scrubs the scalp clean without being too harsh and the foam this product produces is thick and luxurious. I actually used the last of this scalp scrub in today’s shower. It is hands down one of my favorite scalp scrubs and today it was amazing. This jar is now empty but I will be reordering it probably later this afternoon. I usually pick it up on either the Skinstore site They have memorial day sales going on so this is one product I will be adding to my sales purchases.
Since I replaced my shampoo with scalp scrub, I went ahead and replaced my conditioner with the Kendra Platinum Intense fortifying hair masque. I’ve been using this a couple of times a week for the past week and this far it has been a really good hair mask. I don’t always like Kendra products, but this one is definitely a winner. It leaves my hair feeling soft and easy to manage. Of the Kendra products it is my favorite and the one I will reach for repeatedly. I think it is also currently on sale with Lovely Skin’s Memorial Day sales if you are looking to add a hair mask to your collection.
I also used my Honey Pot, because it is standard for my bathing and at this point i reach for it automatically in every shower. Ladies, if you haven’t tried this, you are missing out. It is a fantastic product to add you your line up. I picked it out just to try and see how it performed and have since repurchased this every time i get low on product. It is plant based feminine care and perfectly ph balanced to keep you fresh and clean. I can not recommend this highly enough for any woman. It is not about fixing a problem it is about self care. I am not an affiliate in any way, just a big fan.
While the packaging for the Daily Concerns Daily Body scrubber is in the above photo, I did take a picture of it before I took it to use in the shower. It has a nice sponge inside which hold a lot of the product so you can actually use less as the product comes out as you use it and the exterior is nicely exfoliating on the body. It isn’t that harsh an exfoliation, but you still might want to switch to a mesh body scrubber for your delicate bits. It may not be too harsh for the skin, but it is a bit too exfoliating for certain areas. This was my first use of it and I think I will get a lot of use out of it, it just won’t be replacing my regular mesh scrubbie.
And with this sort of exfoliating scrubber I really like to use a moisturizing body wash. Todays was the Olay Fresh Outlast Orchid and Black Currant Body Wash. Generally if I am not testing out a body wash, this is my standard. It provides a nice level of moisture which is always good for my skin, without becoming slimy as some moisturizing body washes can get. It was especially important to use a moisturizing body wash after the exfoliation of the body scrubber.
And of course post shower I vacuumed the floor of the laundry rom and porch where I entered the house, turned on the air purifier to high to clear out the remaining particles and then scrubbed off the yellow ring of pollen left in the bathtub after I washed it from my body. So needless to say, today did not go as planned. However I now have a very clean bathroom, and I am clean myself. In addition, may hair feels quite amazingly clean all the way down to the scalp. Even if it does mean hat I realized my hair color has faded and more grays are poking through than I realized.
That just means it is time to reach for the root touch up and to pick out another hair dye color to try. I rather like the darker color so I think I will be sticking in the darker range. I had fun with the reds, but I think the darker color might actually suit me better. Something to contemplate while I reach for the root touch up and get back to work. Settling back into my desk I notice the computer is now flashing a Pollen High notice at me in bright red. You know, just in case I missed it. Sigh. I hope your day runs a bit more smoothly than mine. Ah, the joys of spring.
Some of you are looking at the above bottles and thinking, those don’t look quite like the pictures on the Function of Beauty website. And you’d be right. For those of you who have never heard of the brand before, Function of Beauty is a fully customizable hair care brand. You go onto their website, take a quiz about your hair and your hair’s needs. You then get to choose your hair goals, scent and color and they make up a personalized batch of shampoo and conditioner for you. I believe they also have body care elements as well. I have seen a lot of people who are over the moon with the products and they have been on my list to try out for a while.
However, this is not that.
Oh, it is the same brand, just a little different.
I ran out of shampoo and conditioner and went to Target. Usually I have a shampoo and conditioner waiting in the wings for when I finish my current bottle. It isn’t that i am stockpiling it, I just tend to not remember I am almost out until I go to dispense some product and find the bottle empty. It is easier to reach into the linen closet for the spare pair then to wail fruitless ly at the shower head and hope that a simple rinsing will keep me from looking like a grease ball until i can pick up a new set. so usually I have the back up waiting and then on my next store run I replace the back up.
It’s my system.
Except that my system took a knock somewhere and I didn’t have a back up. I did have a small hotel shampoo (my babydoll takes them from every hotel he visits, puts them in a basket in the closet and then forgets them. I use them when I run out or the basket gets full.
which is a long way to say i went to target and was surprised to find the Function of Beauty products sitting on the shelf. They had three varieties: Strait, Wavy and curly hair. I went for the wavy option. It clearly isn’t as wide a range in the store as I suspect it would be if you went through the full customization on line, but i liked the three categories. The Shampoo has fermented rice water in it to help with elasticity and the conditioner has argan oil which helps with shine. The scent is fresh and lightly floral for both.
Quite honestly I like being able to try the brand in the less expensive store format before going in for the fully customizable option. It lets me know if their formula works well for my hair. and you know? It did. My hair felt clean, bit not stripped and I had a great healthy shine to it. During the course of this shampoo and conditioner use, I didn’t need to use a detangler at all and my hair was full of body. (I still used a heat protectant spray, and yes I use the Mane Club’s One hit wonder which is technically both a heat protectant and a detangler, but when I let my hair dry naturally I didn’t use it so i could see if i did need it, which I didn’t.)
I was actually quite pleased with this shampoo and conditioner set. At Target each of the shampoos and conditioners are $9.99. When I went to look up the price on line i saw that there are now other Function of Beauty products available as well. They have hair boosters that can help with strengthening, fighting frizz or simply growing longer healthier hair. I love the fact that you can try these out in such an easy way before committing to a reorderable regime from the brand. I will certainly be repurchasing this set again, trying out the boosters and when I do get around to trying the individualized formula, I will feel more comfortable with the shampoo and the brand. And yes, I definitely want to try out the individualized one and see how it compares tot the version available at target. It will be interesting to see how the store formula varies. But that is a test for another day. As for this test, Function of Beauty functioned impressively.
Good afternoon my darlings. The rain has returned and the humidity level is high. As a result my bangs have decided that an 80s style poof is the way to go. They won’t get there without the help of a teasing comb a round brush and a boat load of Aqua Net, but they are trying. So I am doing my best to ignore them today.
I made no attempt to go outside. It was raining when I woke up, it rained through the morning and it is raining now. I’m trying to think of the fabulous germination my newly planted seeds are getting and less of the walk I will not be taking. It is the down side to building a walking trail in the flood plain. It rains, the trail floods. But I will not harp on it, even though I am still casting longing looks out of the window.
The reason it is so important is that I know on rainy days like this I always slack off a bit on my exercise. I tell myself to push hard, but I just know that I don’t push all that hard on days like today. In fact I don’t think I did much pushing in April, which is why the waist band of my jeans feels a little on the snug side. I have already accepted that on my first weigh in back I will have gained weight. I know everything got out of whack in April. I spent last week getting my meal plan back into alignment and this week I am ramping up the exercise.
Except today. Today I don’t think I pushed as hard as I could. I’ll be making up for it with lighter meals today, but I need to find something to keep me on track for the days when walking isn’t possible. Sadly I may have to go back to some sort of reward system. I had it in place for my initial weight loss plan then when i went to reward myself with something I wanted I found it was sold out and then I couldn’t think of a replacement so I let the system lapse. maybe I’ll keep the rewards in categories instead of specifics. A new pair of yoga pants instead of this specific pair of yoga pants. I think it was a pair of earrings that threw me last time. I saw this adorable pair of bumblebee earrings, but they were gone by the time I reached the reward point. nd then I didn’t see a pair I wanted. General may be the way to go on that. But that is something to figure out later. Maybe after dinner.
Okay today was a fun one. First off Love the embryolisse as a base. I apply it ten minutes before I apply anything else so my skin has time to absorb the cream in and everything just flows wetter with great hydrated skin and no cakey look to anything.
It really helped out the setting powder today as the air is so damp. between the humidity and the cream I needed the setting powder to dial back the shine. It did sort of counteract my test of dry products though. I use the Real Her Palette today because I wanted all powder face products and it was just easiest to grab.
Normally I use this more in the summer time because it goes so well with a light tinted moisturizer natural look, but it applied well today. Ideally though this is a natural look palette. It is well loved though. Pan is showing in all three of the products and I am hoping it will make it through the summer. I don’t think it will make it past this summer so I will probably be replacing it in the fall. it is fantastic with a tinted moisturizer.
It did work well with the Yensa. This is an easy foundation to use actually and I am really enjoying it. My full review will be up this Thursday as I finish out my review.
I am falling in love with this palette from the Balm. I applied the shade Cut and thought wow that is a great all over shade, but since I am seeing how they blend I went for the darkest shade Cliff Hanger and really like the way it blended. I then used the silver shimmer of Roll Credits and it looks great. I am personally loving today’s eye look. If it keeps performing this well during the rest of the test (it is only the second day) I might just have found one of my everyday go to palettes because this was easy to reach for and has workable shades. The trick will see if I still like it next week or if it becomes slightly boring. There is always a fine line with an everyday neutral palette. We’ll have to see where this end up, but I have my fingers crossed for it.
Today I also reached for the ease of the Trestique lip crayon. I love these. This is the Florentine fig and I reach for the color often which is why it is almost a nub. It is comfortable to wear, the crayon is refillable and while one side is a matte color, the other side has a lip balm to go over it if you want a bit of shine. I am really a fan of the formula. It wears a bit like a traditional lipstick though. It won’t dry down and it will wear off. It is very comfortable to wear though.
And that my darlings is me today. my bangs are misbehaving but I love my eye look. I’d be nice if I could get the hair and makeup to cooperate on the same day, but i will take what I can get. And today, the eyes have it.
Let’s face it, hair is often abused in the name of style. It is dried, curled, flattened, twisted and tied up. It is used and abused and often needs just a little TLC. Often called the crowning gory it sometimes needs a little help to shine.
This Mother’s day Chi has you covered. They have bundles that will have your mother’s (or yours) tresses looking tip top for spring. And you can even get 25% off with the code CHIMOM. While they have several available here are my two favorites.
The shampoo not only lathered nicely and cleans the hair without tripping but it removed a lot of build up other products left on my hair. The Infra Treatment was the most amazing conditioner and gave my hair body and shine. Then there is the silk infusion.
I routinely buy the silk infusion on it’s own. A little drop put on your hands and added to wert hair is fantastic. it made my hair feel like silk. There were no tangles, no snags and it just made my hair look and feel amazing. And when the central heating caused my hair to be a little dry over the winter I just put a tiny bit on my hands and ran my hands over the top of my hair and it smoothed down frizz and fly aways.
This set comes with the Original Digital Ceramic hair styling Iron in Ruby red. This is a really good flat iron. It was large enough for me to use with long hair. I could use it both to flatten and curl my hair and the digital read let me know that I wasn’t getting too hot and risking frying my hair. As I am not always the best gauge of that I really appreciated the digital numbers. they were easy to read and really helped keep me in check.
I actually lost this flat iron because it was packed in luggage that got lost. I was more upset about it than the clothes in the suitcase actually. I’ve been trying other tools lately and missing it more and more to be honest. I am debating between reordering it and ordering the Chi Spin and Curl in Rose Gold.
I have never used the Chi Spin and Curl but it just looks like it would be absolutely fantastic fun to try out. I just find it mesmerizing. If I do end up picking it up I will most certainly review it for you. And actually this might be the time.
I have used the Biosilk Shampoo and conditioner and really enjoyed them. I have not tried the therapy but it is described as having a ‘Jasmine & Honey Scent is a weightless leave-in silk replenishing and reconstructing treatment that helps repair, smooth and protect all hair types.’
And really that sounds pretty good to me. While I haven’t tried the Biosilk treatment, I have used the other two items in the bundle and several other Biosilk products over the years and my hair has always loved them. It is a very good line of hair care products. This Jasmine and Honey scent is light but not overpowering. The honey actually balances the floral so neither is overpowering. The scent is strongest in the shower, but as your hair dries the scent fades to a very light barely there scent.
This mother’s day if you are looking for hair care themed bundles , these might be two that you want to look into. As for me, in addition to gift giving it might be time for me to decide if I want to replace my super fabulous Chi Flat iron or if I want to try out the Spin and Curl. Decisions decisions…
I’ll be honest, I’ve had this set of samples for a few months now. The Murumuru Restoring Shampoo and Conditioner set came in a subscription box (look Fantastic I believe, maybe Glossy Box). And I have been somewhat hesitant to try them. Not because of the product. I’ve tried several hair care products from Natura and I loved them all. But I did try a shampoo and conditioner set that looked nearly identical to this and I had issues with the bottle (loved the product though).
I’m sure this isn’t the case with the full sized, for scale reasons if nothing else, but the samples from Naturea are really quite a pain because of the containers. They look nice, I will give you that. The bottles are very sturdy plastic which doesn’t really like squeezing and the thin neck sort of traps the product. So I put off trying this sample. However, I decided it was finally time.
This shampoo and conditioner set had enough product for three uses and as I wash my hair every other day, that pretty much gave me a week’s worth of uses. When testing out a shampoo and conditioner, I like to skip other products so that I am just evaluating them. So for the past week I have avoided any detanglers and any leave in conditioners. Basically, these were my sole hair care products. Because I am avoiding other products I also avoided hot tools since I am not using a heat protector. The first night I used the shampoo and conditioner I let my hair dry naturally. The second time I used my hair dryer on a cool setting and the third time I went to bed with my hair still wet.
The Murumuru Shampoo and Conditioner performed the same with my hair regardless. My hair was clean but not stripped by the shampoo and well nourished but not weighed down by the conditioner. My hair had good body and shine throughout, but didn’t look overly greasy on the days between washes. In addition, there was almost no frizz in my hair, and considering the temperatures and humidity have both risen quite a lot recently, that was an amazing feat.
I was very impressed that I had no tangles. Whether I let my hair dry naturally or used the hair dryer, I was able to get a thin toothed comb through my hair without encountering any snarls or knots. I did recently have about four inches knocked off the length of my hair so a lot of the dry dead stuff was gone, but I still found it rather impressive. It was nice not to need a detangling spray.
The scent of the shampoo and conditioner were both quite pleasant. In the shower there was a nice herbal but slightly spicy (in a nutmeg, allspice kind of spicy not a habanero sort of way) note to them. I couldn’t identify it but as it probably comes from the murumuru butter for which the shampoo and conditioner are named, I’m guessing that was it. It did come across with the herbal and spice notes which I really enjoyed in the shower so I might be looking for that scent in other things. The scent really only lasted in the shower though. It was gone by the time I turned off the water and reached for my towel.
Again, I also like that. While I don’t mind being surrounded by different scents in the shower, I do like leaving most of them there so that they don’t compete with my post bath products. also I think that if you have issues with a lot of scent, these are light enough not to cause you issues.
There are no two ways about it, that is a bad design for a shampoo and even worse for a conditioner due to the thicker consistency of the product. I propped the samples up in my shower upside down to make it easier to use. The small caps almost went down the drain a couple of times, but i managed to rescue them. The fill size bottle has the same shape as the samples. Perhaps it works better in the full size than it does in the sample.
To be honest, I would be willing to give it a try in the full size. Even though it is designed for curly or wavy hair, I loved the way it took down my frizz and made my hair more manageable even without a detangling spray. Because of this and because I know I tend to be frizzy most of the summer, I would be willing to give this a full sized trial of the Murumuru Restoring Shampoo and Conditioner. And if the bottles make dispensing the product difficult, I can always either store them upside down or break out my travel shampoo and conditioner containers and transfer the product into new bottles. I think the product would actually be worth the trouble.
It started with the dress. The dress was sent to me by Ever Pretty to try out and review. My opinions, as always are my own. I went into the details of the dress and the quality of the materials, shipping times and fit in the initial post of the dress when it arrived. This link will take you to that post. The dress was tried on just to see about fit and to start planning the rest of the outfit.
So the hair is simply tied up out of the way, there is no makeup and I learned I needed a body shaper under the dress just to smooth out my lines. The dress however fit perfectly. And so Now, knowing that the Ever Pretty dress is fantastic, I can move on to other elements.
I’ll admit, I am kind of excited this year. There have not been many family gatherings in the past two years and my family has a lot going on. thee is Easter of course but we are combining it with some christenings. There was a family wide decision to simply make this an event rather than a simple Easter Sunday. I think all of us have been denied events for so long that everyone just used it as an excuse.
And I used it as an excuse to treat myself to some of my favorite hair care products. We are starting with a kit from eSalon. This is a custom hair dying kit that you can have mailed to you. The company is fantastic. I not only get the kit but I also order root touch up which they send me in the same shade as the hair color I chose to order. I think my first time ordering this kit was in 2019 and I have been ordering it routinely ever since.
They dye is great, I never have any harsh breakage and it resists fading for a really long time. It is more often that my roots will grow out before the color fades. They also have a color rinse so if you think the color is fading a bit you can give it a little boost. As I try to extend my time between dying my hair as long as I can, the root touch up and color rinse are fantastic additions to the kit. I actually ran out of root touch up, which is why my roots have been showing And I forgot to order it with the batch of dye so I will be putting in a later order. But the hair dye is my first pre-Eater hair purchase.
The second item is the shampoo and conditioner from Grow Gorgeous. It is the Intense line and if you are looking for thickening shampoo and conditioner that also leaves your hair detangled and silky soft, this is one of the best I have found. The scent of the shampoo is a bit on the strong side and it is an intense salon scent. But it is so worth it. My hair always feels thicker and just plain fabulous when I use it. So I went ahead and picked up the set. I generally purchase My Grow Gorgeous products from the Skin store. Currently they are having a 25% off sale, It is site wide not just for hair care or these specific products. Just thought you’d like to know if you are stocking up on beauty products. Just use code CELEBRATE and if you spend more than $150 you get a free 13 piece beauty bag (worth $188). As an extra incentive to stock up. The beauty bag looks kind of amazing. You can see the products here.
This is one of those brands that i was introduced to either with a Glossy Box or a Look Fantastic Box.
I can’t remember which and I think they have been featured in both. They are a UK brand I believe and well worth looking into. I have enjoyed every product i have tried from the brand thus far, with this shampoo and conditioner set being my absolute favorite. Plus as they are in tubes, I find them much easier to pack for a trip.
And the third indulgence I added for this Easter’s hair care line up is the Color Wow Dream Cocktail. It is coconut infused and I know I often complain about coconut. It isn’t that I don’t like coconut, I do actually. It was just that there was such a plethora of coconut infused products for a time that coconut seemed to be everywhere. And it was a bit much. Plus sometimes people go a little crazy with the fake coconut scent. This Dream Cocktail does have a light coconut scent, but it is very light and very natural smelling so I am fine with it. And even if i wasn’t I would let it go just to use this product.
The Color Wow Dream Cocktail is interesting. When you first put it in your hair you will be tempted to think it doesn’t do anything. That is because it is heat activated. It doesn’t do much until you blow dry our hair or use other heated tools. Then it is like this Dream cocktail coats every strand in silk. That is the only way I can describe it. It is a heat protector and hair renewal serum in one. My hair is softer and curls are glossier without being greasy. It is almost like a healthy highlighter for your hair. Each strand seems to have a healthy glow about it. And I am happy to include it in my Easter Hair Care Line up this year.
I haven’t decided on a style yet, But i do know that with this dress from Ever Pretty and this selection of hair care items, I will look great and my hair will be healthy and fabulous.
Good afternoon my darlings and Happy Dry Shampoo Day. Yes, that’s right March 10th is Dry Shampoo Day. Which I find kind of interesting. I tend to use loads of dry shampoo during the summer months, just to keep my bangs from looking greasy mid afternoon given the heat and humidity in my area. I do give my hair (and scalp) a break for much of the winter, but generally around March when Dry Shampoo Day rolls around I am ready to order my summer stock. Which is handy as my favorite dry shampoo s 30% off.
Actually Klorane has a full stop 30% off(CODE: NDSD30) so I may just order the eye makeup remover I love from them as well when I put in the order. I know I reviewed it a while back but it is still the best eye makeup remover I have tried. It not only took off the eye makeup but when it got into my eyes and contacts it didn’t make my contacts fuzzy with oils. they are disposable contacts and generally if makeup remover gets on them i have to change the contacts.
Not so with the Klorane. I am trying to remind myself of this so that I will add it to the cart when I order my dry shampoo. last time I got so excited about the sale i forgot. This time I will remember. I’ll link the sale down below for anyone interested. Klorane is a really good brand in general and have many things other than Dry shampoo that are worth checking out if that isn’t your thing.
Get 30% off your purchase of a full-sized Dry Shampoo from March 10th through March 14th with code NDSD30.
· Additionally, from March 15th through March 31st, purchases of $50 and more will receive their choice of a FREE Travel Sized Dry Shampoo with code FREEGIFT.
Fabulous isn’t it?
There is also another excitement today. As many of you may recall, I love to garden and this year I started a lot of seeds early. Today I got to pick my first basil of the season. So for lunch I had a tomato and basil salad. Sliced Cherry tomatoes, julienned basil, pinch of salt dash of balsamic. It is essentially a caprese salad without the mozzarella.
Later in the summer I’ll add the cheese but for the first basil of the season, I wanted to be very basil forward. While I love the basil, it also helps me sort of determine the flavor of the basil. I planted several varieties out but when i shifted them from the seed beds to pots I forgot to mark which was which and needed to figure it out by flavor. It was the Genovese. In case you are wondering.
And yes, it was delicious. The first leaves picked are always so delicate inn flavor. Later when potted outside and the leaves allowed to grow large the flavor will strengthen, but right now it is quite delicate and delicious.
Okay, lets get into todays products, because this was an interesting one. First up the Marc Jacobs Primer. This primer is clear and has an almost jelly like quality about it. It feels almost like a thinned out Vaseline when applied to the skin. It isn’t sticky though and glides on well. It feels weightless and is really good at blurring out pores without adding any pigment to the skin. Even though it is a coconut primer, the scent is now barely there in my product. It was really only noticeable when I first opened it. I enjoy the primer but it does need a minute to settle in and get comfortable, otherwise it will blend in with your foundation.
The Wander beauty is an old favorite. It performs well and lasts throughout my day. My day (wearing makeup generally doesn’t go past about nine hours – when testing it I found this foundation shows wear at about the 12th hour of wear, for those of you with longer makeup wear times). My only issue is that when you pull the doe foot applicator out, there is always a small spray of tiny droplets that come out as the doe foot pops free. I know that the seal keeps the product fresh, but that spray is fine and forgettable, until you put your hand or some papers or something in it and then they make their presence known. So just put down a wash cloth and open the foundation over it and you will be fine. And it really is a beautiful foundation. My bottle is only about half full so I will be reaching for it more often to use up the bottle. And yes, it is on my list of foundations to replace, even with the spray.
The Ciate Bronzer is not terribly pigmented but it is buildable. I like it because it is really easy to work with. I will usually lean towards buildable over pigmented. I prefer to be in control. Plus I don’t tend to go for dramatic bronze and contouring so often highly pigmented products are simply too much for me. This works and it comes in an adorable compact. It just makes me happy to look at.
The blush from No 7 is also a winner, but i tend not to reach for it. While it applies well and blends out nicely I always look at the product through the clear front and think ‘Bright’ then reach for something else. It looks brighter and more pink than it is. So I need to stop passing it by because of it’s looks. I know I like it, especially since if i don’t like a blush it immediately gets passed along. It is a good product, I just need to remember that and reach for it more often.
The Jecca Balc glow drops do make a really good highlighter. They are even better if you put them all over the face underneath a flat matte foundation. If you have a matte primer and a matte foundation, a drop of this between the two is fantastic. It is a product well worht having around. I prefer the champagne because of my skin tone, but the rose petal works well for a variety of tones and is also really nice. Plus I love having multi use porducts.
The Fenty powder is one of those powders that is okay but not something I will repurchase when it is done. It’s primary benefit is that it is one of my non translucent setting powders so if a foundation is too light I can use it to a subtle adjustment. The powder itself is okay. It is in fact kind of generic. The lid sticks a bit when I turn it and I have to make certain there is no product on my hands or my fingers will slide and it will be impossible to open. It is just the slick metal. I would personally put some decorative ridges around the side to prevent slippage, but no one asked me to redesign their packaging. Inside there is an inner lid, which I like, However it keeps the powder from flying out when you pen it, however there is enough of a gap between the inner lid and the holes that when you peel the inner lid up, there is already product that has escaped the holes. I think I may have actually spilled more product than i used. it is more useful to me in the spring as I need more subtle foundation adjustments than bronzers provide as my skin starts to tan. Then summer hits and I just switch products and forget about this powder until the fall.
Today was the first use of the Defiance palette. It is a good daily color selection for me and I think playing with it will be fun. It is the kind of palette I could turn into an everyday palette. If I like it. the jury is still out on that. i had a little trouble with blending this morning and the shimmer didn’t show up at all until I rolled in the setting spray and wet the brush down. It worked better. I will be testing this palette all week next week (and possibly longer). For a first use, I will say that it was interesting and that I am looking forward to playing with it.
The Stila Mascara I love. You already know that. It is rapidly becoming my go to favorite. the name is a bit much, but I can’t deny the results so if they want to double up their adjectives they can go ahead.
The lipstick I used today was the wet ‘n wild that came i my look fantastic box. I like it. I have used Cinnamon Spice from the line for a while and in fact had to repurchase it a while back because I used it down to a nub. It is nice to have a more neutral shade in the same great formula.
And finally the setting spray I rolled out today was the Porefessional Super setter. It is one of my favorites because of the fine mist and the ability to seal makeup on for longer. The fine mist is my favorite part though. It works especially well if you are trying to coax shimmers onto eyeshadow brushes so it will probably stay out as I test the Defiance palette.
And that was my look for today. Over all it is a good day for me. My lunch celebrated the first basil of the season and one of my favorite brands is celebrating Dry Shampoo Day with 30% off. Plus I did manage to take some interesting products from my drawer. what more could I ask?
I know someone to complete the rest of today’s paperwork for me. It would be great, but we can’t have everything can we my darlings? So it is back to work for me to hopefully clear out some space before the end of the day. Wish me luck!
Philip Kinsley is one of those brands that I never heard of until I started subscribing to Glossy Box and Look Fantastic. It is a UK based brand and while I’m sure it is around in the US it was just never on my radar. Hair care products from the brand pop up periodically and I sometimes have mixed feelings about them. A few of the products I’ve tried have been mediocre and over priced and a couple have been out of this world fantastic. Nothing has ever been bad though which is always a plus for the brand. I just never know if I’m going to get so-so or fabulous.
Lately i have been trying out the Bond Builder. According to the website The Bond Builder is…
The ultimate hair repair treatment your over-processed strands have been waiting for – The restorative pre-shampoo hair treatment mask for damaged hair. Proven to make hair up to 3X more resistant against damage* Bond Builder Restructuring Treatment works beneath the surface of the strands at a molecular level to repair damaged and processed hair from the inside out.
Increased hair strength, Reduced breakage & splitting, Improved wet and dry combing, Visibly healthier hair, More defined curls, Sharper ends
Now I’m sure some of you picked up on the words pre shampoo hair treatment. I did not on my first go round with this product. Mostly because while I have enough samples of this product to constitute a full bottle’s worth of product, they are all in sample sized packaging. The sample sizes only have the ingredients on the back of the package and nothing else.
and did I look to see how the product was supposed to be applied before using it in my hair? No, of course not. I thought it was a leave in conditioner that treats split ends. Mostly because the front of the package says split end remedy.
My apologies to Mr. Kingsley, I should have gone on the website.
So the first time i used this product i put it on damp hair, post shower. Like you would a leave in conditioner. And then I let it dry naturally. When I went to brush my hair, I found parts of it were a bit stiff from the product. The stiff spots brushed out well and then I forgot about them. Then when I next washed my hair I didn’t think about the product, showered and l noticed a light scent that had nothing to do with any of the products I was using. That day I forgot my detangler because things got busy and then resigned myself to hair pulling as I brushed my hair out.
Except there wasn’t any. Hair pulling that is. The brush went through my hair with no problems. Just a smooth glide. Which is when I remembered the scent, realized it came from the Bond Builder and then went and looked it up on line. My next hair wash I followed the instructions and what do you know? Using the product correctly actually helped it work better.
Actually I ended up really like this product. I know the pictures aren’t the best because what it does is detangle your hair and repair the split ends. so really what you see is just healthy hair. A while back I made an ill fated attempt to put layers back into my hair using a pair of scissors. I should not be allowed to take scissors to my hair. Really there should be a city ordinance or something. So I have been growing out the very bad layer attempt before i go to a stylist. That and my appointment was cancelled tice due to a quarantine moment. So it has been a long while since my last trim. My goal is to keep my hair healthy while it grows out and give whatever stylist i eventually go to the best head of hair to work with.
This is a great product to help with that. The comb snags less in my hair so there is less pulling and tearing. The ends of my hair look fantastic and I love the scent of this treatment. It smells like a good salon. But it is a light scent. i noticed it when I applied it and it gets a little stronger when wet. The scent slides down the drain though and I didn’t notice any lingering scent afterwards.
The big thing to remember is that you really need to wait ten minutes after applying before you wash your hair. It really needs time to settle in and work it’s magic. I think that might be why I got away with applying it and forgetting it it had time to absorb and I left it to settle in longer than I should. I recommend following the ten minute guideline, but at least I inadvertently found out that there is no damage if you leave it in your hair longer. Much longer in my case.
Which is also good to know.
Of the products I have tried from the brand in the last couple of years, this is one of the best. I will use every sample I have and when they are gone, I will be picking up a full sized container. I will also try to remember the lesson and actually read the instructions before using a product.
