The Daily: July 18th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope your Monday is going swimmingly. Today has been a really interesting day for me. I woke up just before my alarm this morning so I didn’t start the day by being unpleasantly jarred out of my slumber. And I actually slept well last night which helped. Coffee was a tasty treat instead of a necessity and I didn’t contemplate taking it intravenously.

My Friday was interrupted my a new project and a rescheduling of a second one. As I finished and released my last book I spent the weekend outlining my next one. (very excited by it) so this morning was a world of all new starts. It had a bit of that new year’s day feeling to it. You know the ‘I’m stepping into a whole new year’ kinda vibe. I think I have been working on finishing up so many major projects that it feels like forever since I have gotten to start something fresh.

It felt amazing.

I was a bit of a slug this weekend. I binge watched the entire first season of Blood & Treasure this weekend on Paramount +. The new season just started so I thought I’d watch an episode or two of the first season to get a feel for it, and just got sucked into the entire first season. This thing has everything. A master thief working with a former FBI agent (of course they have ‘chemistry’ and ‘history’), ancient Egyptian treasures, arms dealers with spy thriller type action, secret organizations and ancient brotherhoods based in Rome, a possible supernatural angle and of course Nazis.

Oh yeah, they added in the Nazis.

I think whoever wrote this just said, let’s see what happens if we chuck a bunch of different genres in a blender and see what happens. and then add Nazi sprinkles on top.

It is a lot of fun though. You can’t take it seriously, but it is a lot of fun. I’ll put the link below. Paramount+ has a try it free link and if you are going to try it, I’d suggest running through a few episodes. The first episode in the series is pretty much the set up for all of the back stories and then every other episode is kind of a fast paced danger of the day sort of show.

It was a nice brain clearing weekend which really did help me start fresh today. So it was very much appreciated.

Today’s look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Kim Chi Beauty Thailor Bronzer

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Powder: By Terry Hyaluronic Acid Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Eyeshadow Palette

mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Eyebrows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Kit

Lips: KVD Beauty Epic Kiss Lipstick

This is the last week of the Tatcha liquid Primer test, but I have to say it hasn’t been a hardship to use it. It goes on like a slightly thin feeling liquid, but as you blend it in it almost feels like it thickens and fills pores while locking in makeup. It is a nice primer actually.

Thi is the second use of the bareminerals tinted moisturizer and it feels really nice. It is a little light for me at this time of year, but it is workable. this is the shade i can see taking me into the fall actually. I am at the darkest shade my skin gets right now and it still works so I don’t think I’d actually need a darker shade. For the next month or so it is going to be the season of shade adjustment. I am just never this tan for all that long so I am at the dark end of my summer products and as the heat is too much to allow much time spent outside, soon the tan will fade back a little. (then the weather will cool off just enough to allow walking time and it will darken again for a few weeks before lightening for autumn and winter. Its a process,) This moisturizer feels weightless and I love that it has SPF. I am still using sunscreen when I go out, but a little extra doesn’t hurt.

The Kim Chi Bronzer came in the IPSY bag this month so this was a first use. It is a soft formula and it needs a light hand to apply. It may have seemed extra pigmented because of the tinted moisturizer, but this is a bronzer that needs a light hand to apply. one swipe of the brush across the pan and then applied to the cheek was a deep line of bronzer that I had to blend out. It does blend well, but tread carefully.

After playing with the bronzer I went for the bareMinerals blush. I love this blush and it requires hardly any thought to use. A little dab and a quick blend and you are done. I use a finger tip. the formula feels like a powder but blends like a cream. It is one of my to three blushes.

This was a first use for the By Terry powder as well today. It is a very finely milled product. And while that does mean that it sits well on the skin without looking powdery, it also means you need to prepare for a dust cloud. If you apply with a brush, you will need some kind of clothing shield and remember to time your breath so you don’t inhale the cloud. I suspect it will be less powdery with a makeup sponge and as this month’s Boxy sent two new ones, I will try that out tomorrow. I like the way thus powder looks but it is finely milled enough to make a bit of a mess with a brush.

The Lunar Beauty Eyeshadow Palette worked well for me today. I went with all mattes. The first time I used it I couldn’t resist the bronze shimmer. And it was fantastic, but because of the softer shades in the pan the shimmers tend to take over when used, so i went shimmer free. It isn’t a super pigmented formula but it is both blendable and buildable. I like it, but I think I may have to watch a few tutorials on this palette so I can see professionals play with it since I suspect every time I pick it up i am just going to come out with slight variations on the same look. The shadows I used today are completely different than the ones I used on Thursday but if I added the shimmer it would look virtually the same as Thursdays look. So that may end up being an issue. I’ll look into it before I make my final decision.

I trimmed my bangs over the weekend. And so my brows are now visible. I have been using the iMethod brow kit and I love it. I have found my stencil and with everything trimmed it takes no time to put the brows on and make them look good. I am in love with this kit actually. (Brows have always been a weak point for me.) I like not really having to mess with them and having them look the same. Call it a cheat if you want, but I will take it. Love this kit. It is going to be a standard for a while. (oh and it is currently on sale if you follow the link in the list above).

I know I have not been impressed with the Patrick Ta mascara, but today I decided to play a bit with it. Mostly I was just so tickled by the brows I decided to take some extra time. I like the way the lashes look today but it did take extra time. There was a layer, a pause to add lipstick, another layer. A pause to put makeup away, another layer. a spritz of perfume and then a final fourth layer. After the fourth layer I decided I liked the look. The trick seems to be letting the first layer dry a little before the second layer is added. The mascara didn’t clump but it did take four layers to reach this stage. I think this is a mascara that is fine for basic office looks, or that would pare well with other mascaras, but it still isn’t my favorite.

Finally we come to the lips. I went with the KVD today. I really like the formula of this lipstick. The shade does tend to look darker in the tube than on the lips which is something to look out for. I always look at it and think wow that’s my berry shade and then it comes out a little too pink. It is a great formula that is comfortable to wear though. I may try a lip liner underneath to deepen it because it is slightly pink for my taste, but I do like the formula.

And that is me today my darlings. I am pretty pleased with how everything turned out. I am also pretty pleased with my Monday. I had a good night’s sleep and spent the day delving into new projects. All in all, a pretty good time for me. I hope your day was as good and productive as mine. I also hope the week stays this good all the way through. Fingers crossed.

The Daily: July 14th, 2022

Today has been a very good day my darlings. I have been working on The Academy for a really long time. It has felt like the cursed manuscript. Anytime i got close to finishing it something would happen. I lost the document twice (partially due to computer glitches and partially because of my own stupidity – always back up your documents) So I actually wrote the bulk of this manuscript three separate times. There were also multiple family emergencies, two surgeries and a death. Anytime I uttered the words, ‘I think I’m almost done with this,’ something would happen. I have never had this much trouble getting a manuscript finished before.

But it is done now. The curse has been lifted.

As you can imagine the bulk of today was my own personal mini celebration. I didn’t do much that was out of the ordinary. I walked, I did my yoga. I chased the birds away from my blackberry bush because last night’s storms sent the netting flying across the yard leaving the berries exposed. I did paperwork.

Okay at lunch I took some of the fizzy water from my Soda Stream bottle, added a splash of grenadine and a twist of lemon peel and put it into one of the fancier cocktail glasses in my collection. Because even cursed manuscripts need a little celebration.

Otherwise it was a pretty typical work day. But I have to say even the typical work conundrums don’t feel bad today. Because the book is complete. Bring on the paperwork, I am fine with it. I feel like I can tackle anything right now. I know the feeling won’t last, but while it is here, I am going to revel in it.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Buxom Cosmetics Staycation Bronzer

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Powder: bareMinerals Mineral Veil

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Eyeshadow Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips: bareMinerals Mineralist Moisturizing Vegan Lipstick in Perception

I know, today I went bareMinerals heavy. I couldn’t help it. I saw the newly arrived tinted moisturizer and though about how much I love their blush so I decided to use it. Next to it in the drawer was the bareMinerals Setting powder which I really enjoy and then when I looked at the lip products I saw the glosses from bareMinerals which are summer time go-tos but then I saw the actual lipstick and you know I love a good deep lip.

I figured that since the eyeshadow leaned in a reddish tint direction I would lean into it. I am still testing out the Tatcha and the Buxom was still out from it’s last use. So that was my decision process. I don’t regret any of it. They are all really good products.

This was the first use of the tinted moisturizer. I think it might be a shade too light for my skin at this time of year, but with the bronzer I made it work. It is one of those products than can go on for really light coverage but be built up for a medium one. Because of the tone I went for the lighter side. When playing around with it I will attempt to build it up to see how it performs, but I really like the way it looks as an almost sheer coverage. It evens the skin tone and blended in well. It feels like I am wearing absolutely nothing on my face. It was a really good first use and I am looking forward to playing around with it.

The other first use was the Lunar Beauty palette. One tap knocked off any loose powder so there was no fall out during application. The shadows are slightly on the powdery side, at least the mattes are. The shimmers are quite soft. They aren’t deeply pigmented but they are buildable and they blend really well. The dry shadow brush did nothing with the shimmers. Next I’ll try it with a wet brush but today I used a fingertip and they applied well. There was just no pigment gathered with the dry shadow brush from the shimmers. I’m going to break out both the setting spray and the cotton swabs for this palette test, but honestly it was a decent first test. No fall out and I like the shades.

Off to a great start.

And now I am going to let my good mood help my afternoon paperwork seem less onerous. So it is back to work for me. Have a great afternoon my darlings and I’ll see you back again tomorrow morning to round out the week.

The Daily: July 13th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today is going to be a short and sweet posting. I woke up this morning with my eyes puffy and watery from allergies. The long dry spell followed by off and on rain storms have really done a number with the the pollen and mold counts here and I looked in the mirror this morning and went nope, not a makeup day.

It is however a Grace and Stella energizing eye mask day.

I woke up, washed my face, put the coffee on to brew and put a depuffing mask on while I was waiting for the caffeine for my internal systems. I thought it would be enough that i could later go on with my makeup because it usually is. Today, I use the eye masks, was still not keen on makeup and then used another set of eye masks right after lunch.

It’s just that sort of day.

I am also in the final stretch of getting this book ready for release. The edits are complete and it is just the finishing touches. Soon it will be done and I can move on to other projects. This has been the manuscript of doom and I am so ready to be done with it. I think it is a good book, but I am ready to let it go.

And so I am going to get back to doing just that. I am going to finish this and break the curse. Then tomorrow a more normal world can return.

Wish me luck.

The Daily: July 12th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today we have sun. It is nice to see. Admittedly I am looking at it from the inside of the house as the sun has lifted the rain from the past two days into the air and turned everything outside the house into a sauna. One of my neighbors is actually taking advantage of it.

I went out to check on my plants this morning and he was setting up a chair under the tree. He was wearing pair of speedos and some flip flops and had a towel. He waved and told me he was going to pretend he was in a sauna for a little while. To give you a fully accurate picture I should probably also tell you that he is a wiry man in his late eighties and has leathery tanned skin that makes his chest hair look startlingly white.

I told him to remember to hydrate and then I went back into the house.

Since a slow walk around my back yard caused me to sweat, I’m sure he will get a good sweat.

My neighborhood is one of those transitional neighborhoods. Sections were built in the 1940s and then it was filled in in the fifties and early sixties. Except for the one new construction house that went in on the last house site a few years back, the last house built in my neighborhood was put up in 1962. The houses tend to have either older people who built the house initially or young families. My babydoll and I are sort of in the middle. We are older than the young families and younger than the older folks. which oddly enough means both groups talk to us, often about the other group.

Of course the neighborhood slowed down it’s transition because there is such a shortage of housing stock so there is no where for anyone to go and with prices skyrocketing no way to afford someplace else. There was one house up for sale a few months’ back. One of my neighbors moved into what is usually called a Mother-in-law apartment in her daughter’s house because the house was just too big for her.

Putting the sign up in the yard was like throwing chum into a shark tank. Cars were lined up on the street just to drive by the house. I think the realtor was a bit startled by the response to the one open house they held. It was madness. I have never been so happy to be settled in my life. Predictable, the new neighbors are a couple with three really young kids. So the trend continues, even if it does move very slowly.

Today’s Look

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: Elf Acne Fighting Foundation

Bronzer/Blush/Highlight/powder: Pur 4-in-1 Skin perfecting powders

Eyeshadow: Elf Bite Sized Palette in Cream and Sugar

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Elf Sheer Slick in Black Cherry

I’m sure you notice the general theme. Basically today I wanted to test the Elf Bite Sized palette against the Natasha Denona one that looks so similar. they are both in the photo below There is a tonal difference but you can see why they remind me of each other. when i went to pull the palette out I thought, you know, I really like the poreless putty primer. Maybe if I like the Tatcha liquid enough I could buy it and then just use the elf primer balm with it. so I decided to use it today and things sort of spiraled. I also found an elf liquid shadow that I picked up and haven’t tried yet so that may be tomorrows thing since I completely forgot about it and then got excited when i saw it.

the two palettes

But first today.

I enjoy the elf putty primer. I do not know how many of them I have gone through since it’s release. Do I like the Tatcha more? Yes. It has some nice skin benefits I don’t get with the Elf and my skin always feels nice when wearing it and after I remove it. But the Elf putty prime is a very good primer and I will use and replace it repeatedly. It is also one of the few products I will keep a back up of.

With elf foundations, I generally find them to be okay, except for this one which I love. The rest I can sort of take or leave. They are fins in a pinch but not my favorite. This one I adore. It blends really well and even though I don’t have a huge issue with acne, it doesn’t clog my pores and it feels good to wear. It is more of a light to medium coverage product, which is perfect for the summer. If I am going to use an Elf foundation, this is the one I am going for.

Today’s eye with the Elf Palette

The Pur Palette is one that I typically take traveling with me. I saw it and thought why not. The blush is a little light for me right now, but it blended out well so no complaints. The Highlight also tends to disappear a bit, but that also might be part of my summer skin tone. I’m not a huge Pur fan but I really do like this palette, especially for travel.

Patrick Ta’s Mascara is still just okay. I need an eyelash curler with it and it is good for everyday wear in an office. And you know I adore the Elf Sheer Slick.

Which just leaves us with the eyeshadow. I like the bite sized palettes. They are well thought out and great for quick and easy use when you are in a hurry in the morning. There is very little fall out (I tap the brush before applying). The shadows are not super pigmented but they ae buildable. Which does allow you a lighter look. The Natasha Denona is a slightly different tone and it is much more highly pigmented. Using them though they feel very similar. I do prefer the shimmer tones of the Natasha Denona palette as they are the most different. They are more subtle in tone while the Elf is just bright. But this little bite sized palette is a good little palette to have around. I have several actually and really enjoy them. Is it the same as the Natasha Denona? No, but one reminds me of the other.

And so that was my makeup today. And now I am going to pop into the back yard just to see if my neighbor is still sweating it out (and to make sure he hasn’t passed out) and then I am getting back to work. Just another day in the neighborhood.

The Daily: July 11th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today has been interesting. I went to get the mail and was very excited that one of the items I ordered from the IPSY store arrived. It was the Korres Santorini Grape Velvet skin Drink. I have been really wanting to try it out. And when I saw it for sale on IPSy I thought it was about perfect.

Now I should explain that I did purchase this from IPSY a while back, when it first came out on the site. It was somehow lost in transit and after much back and forth they finally told me it was sold out and just refunded me the money. This time when it arrived, the top had been somehow unscrewed in transit and the bottle arrived empty. The package smelled fantastic and the green glass bottle was lovely, but it was empty. So I contacted IPSY care (which meant spending way too much time with their IPSY Bot before finally getting to submit a ticket to a person.) Surprisingly they got back to me in under an hour. They asked me to confirm my details and they said they would send out a replacement.

Mostly I am mentioning this because there have been a lot of horror stories about IPSY’s customer service and replacement policy. I wanted to note down when this happened so I can follow the trail of the replacement item. I’m hoping it won’t be a saga, but I wanted a firm reminder that this replacement sequence began on July 11th.

I am impressed that they got back to me so quickly. Hopefully that is a good indicator. we shall see. As for the rest of the day, the creek was swollen and flood the park, so it was back to Yoga for my daily exercise. I don’t mind it but I do prefer the walks. Of course even without the rain it was getting too warm for walks outside. July and August the heat just makes it impossible here. And because I have the Yogaworks program I am trying out, there are plenty of workouts. I’ve been doing them haphazardly mostly so I can try them out, but I think I like it enough that in August I am going to set up a more regular schedule with it. Not only will the regular schedule be better for me, but I can really get a feel for the system.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Yensa BC Full coverage Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Tatcha Silk Powder

Eyeshadow: Natasha Denona Ayana Palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb

Okay several of these products I chose because I didn’t tidy up my makeup over the weekend and they were out. I was also moving kind of fast this morning and I knew that they would work without trouble so I went with them. The Buxom Cosmetics Bronzer and the Illamasqua gel blusher are two of my absolute favorite products and I don’t really have to think too much when using them. They work without causing issues. I will put them back in the drawer and use other things, but today, they were good products that were already out.

I am still playing around with the liquid primer from Tatcha. It works well but I’m not sure if I like it more than the balm primer. That one I adore. And given the price I can only buy one of them at a time. I can’t justify both at the same time. But it is a nice primer. It fills pores quite well and is really nice to use. So testing it out this week is not a hardship. Plus I kind of want to see how long the travel size will last.

The Yensa BC Foundation is one of my favorite foundation product. If I could only have three foundations, it would be at the top of the list. This always sort of surprises me as their Silk foundation is good but not my favorite. I always find it fun that the same brand can have such different products. But this BC foundation is a total winner if you want something that blends easy and never looks caked on. The trick for me is rotating it and using other products.

I wanted to use the Ayana Palette again today so that I can do a comparison with the Cream and Sugar palette from ELF. The Natasha Denona Palette has one more shadow (silver) but I think I prefer the formula of the elf palette. and I can live without the silver. I will be using the elf tomorrow to see how I feel about it then. With testing other products it’s been a while since I used it.

The Patrick Ta mascara is still okay. I will use it and not repurchase it. Its fine, but thee is nothing special about it. I used the eyelash curler with it and that gave it a little more help, but it is just a basic mascara.

The Gloss bomb is the only Fenty product I really love and I am trying to remember to use it more often. So I have it out. It is a really great formula that really hydrates the lips as well as providing shine.

And in case you are wondering about my hair, I am trying out a new shampoo and conditioner. It is the Herbal Essences Argan oil for repair. I expected the shine and softness, but i didn’t expect the volume. It is a little fuller than I thought it would be. I am liking it, I was just surprised.

So now it is back to work for me. I hope all of you are having a fantastic day. As for me, I am feeling good and on the final stretch of a book release. The relief I will feel when this is finally out can not be underestimated. It has been an almost cursed manuscript. But soon the curse will life. Hopefully. Keep your fingers crossed.

The Daily: July 7th, 2022

Today’s daily may be a little short. We have a line of thunderstorms passing through and have lost internet twice today and the lights keep flickering so I fear a power failure is eminent. So This is going to be short and sweet.

I actually am somewhat amused by the fact that the weather alerts that post in my icons bar at the bottom of the screen have been alternating between Thunderstorm and Heat wave. (the heat index is 105 – actual temp 93 – today in case you are wondering) Usually rain drops the temperatures a little bit, but not today. i went outside because the wind knocked over some of my plants and I had to straighten the pots. The rain felt like bathwater. I don’t know why warm rain kind of creeps me out. I think I am used to it being slightly cooler than the air. Regardless, the rain is warm. My day has been spent working around the thunderstorm and there has been no exercise to speak of. I think the most I managed is walking to and from the coffee pot. It has just been that kind of day. So Let’s look at the makeup I used for it.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Silk Canvas Liquid Primer

Foundation: Kristofer Buckle Triplicity Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Tatcha Silk Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Natasha Denona Ayana Palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Elf Sheer Slick in Black Cherry

The Tatcha Silk Canvas is beginning it’s time of testing. This is the liquid version. I adore the solid balm version. This one is interesting. I can’t help but compare it as it goes on. At first it feels more liquid-y than I want, but as I massage it in and blend it out, it starts to feel like the balm version of this primer. It is an odd sensation. thus far it seems to be performing just as well as the balm version. Once I get over that initial liquid phase I rather like it. I still haven’t decided if I like it better than the solid. I am starting to see pan on the solid and am trying to decide if I want to repurchase the solid or go with this liquid version Time will tell which I prefer, but for now this one seems to be working well.

I am trying to use the Kristopher Buckle once a week at least until it is used up. I think the company is gone, although the product is still on Amazon. The reason I am trying to use it up is because it is one of my favorite formulas and I know if I don’t use it, I will hoard it for when i know I need something quick easy and fabulous. which I know I shouldn’t do, but I tend to do anyway. So once a week until it is gone.

The Buxom bronzer is a nice buildable formula. It works well with both regular foundation and a natural look tinted moisturizer which is why I tend to reach for it a lot in the summertime. It does work better with more natural looks, but it can build up to something more dramatic. It just doesn’t come out of the gate highly pigmented (which I kind of like).

This Illamasqua gel blusher is one of my favorite formulas for cream blush and I really don’t need a reason to reach for it. Just a drop blended out works well for me. This little pot will last a long time, even with how often I reach for it.

I tried the Tatcha powder in a sample when I ordered the Kissu lip mask (love the lip mask btw) and I liked the powder enough to try it in a travel size. I am also trying to use up several open powders at the moment and didn’t want to pick up a full size of anything until i ‘d cleared a couple of the almost done containers. I really like the powder. It is finely milled and doesn’t leave me looking powdery. it works well over makeup or on it’s own as i wore it yesterday. I am probably going to pick up the full size when I restock. Part of me wants to keep the travel size just for travel. Or at least pick up another one for holiday travel if I empty this one.

And then there are the eyes. I have three of the Natasha Denona Mini palettes nd I am rotating through the three of them to test. The other two are red based while this one is brown/neutrals. I am noticing that the browns are less pigmented and easier to control. With the red based palette I barely touch the brush to the lid and then I reach for a clean brush to blend because they ae so pigmented. These browns have good pigment and good bendability but i am finding them easier to control if that makes sense. I like this palette with today’s use, but to be honest I don’t see it as better than the Elf Bite sized palette with the same tones. I might have to do a side by side comparison. I love the Cream and Sugar palette from Elf. It doesn’t have the silver but it has everything else. And it works better. (It is also only $5 as opposed to the $25 mini palette from Natasha Denona). For now i am just looking at the Natasha Denona Palettes but i think a side by side may be coming up. It is a nice palette and less pigmented than the reds.

The Patrick Ta mascara is just okay. It is a good general work day mascara. It coats the lashes and doesn’t flake. It doesn’t give major volume or length or curling. I would suggest using an eyelash curler before using it. It is fine for everyday use but nothing really all that special.

And we wrap up with the Elf Sheer Slick. I love this black cherry shade and have lost count of how many times I have repurchased it for just a quick sheer wash of color. It is one of the few lip products I will use all the way up. Oddly I don’t like the other shades, but I do love this one.

And that is me today my darlings. Thunder has just boomed over head and the lights are flickering again so i am going to end this here and catch up with you again in the morning. Have a great afternoon.

Buxom Cosmetics

The Daily: July 6th, 2022

hello my darlings. Today is going to be a little different. Normally i just chat about what I am doing, both life wise and fitness wise and about the random happenings of my world. Then I list my makeup. Today I just went with Primer, powder and lip balm. (Tatcha Liquid silk Primer, Tatcha Silk powder, and Avant Hyaluronic Lip Balm– which I so did not want to like because it is really over priced but actually love. I won’t ever be able to convince myself to repurchase it because it is so overpriced, but i will use every last drop of it while I have it).

I’ve just been in and out of the house so much that I didn’t really feel like putting much makeup on. Plus my Tatcha package came in so I couldn’t resist. I’ll post a pick below even though it isn’t very exciting. I love the three products though and am looking forward to using them again.

To be honest the primer is mostly because my ice cream cake extra sugar intake of my birthday has caused breakouts so the primer takes out the red and the powder dusts off the shine, and the balm is just good lip health. we had storms all last night which oddly didn’t dip the temperatures. It just increased the humidity. We are sitting at +90% humidity. If we get a little more we will get rain, but it doesn’t look like it is going up so we just get misery.

What I did want to talk about today was subscription boxes, because I am sort of changing things. When IPSY choice came around this month i realized I didn’t have the same sense of anticipation that I usually have. I still have it for the quarterly Glam Bag X months, but not for the IPSY Plus. And then each choice category only held one item I would like to try.

Admittedly I really liked each item i chose, but I still found the entire thing somewhat annoying, So what I am going to do is Get my IPSY plus this month and the Glam Bag X in August and then skip September and October and then get the Glam Bag X in November. I want to see if only having the quarterly bag increases my excitement for IPSY again or if I need to just let the subscription go.

I figured since i was already thinking about changing things now instead of waiting until the end of the year, I would go ahead and take a peek at what Allure had in store. I saw the spoilers for the box and realized the only items that really excited me were only in the new subscribers box. I know, the new subscribers perks were what drew me back to the box as well. The month i signed up they had both Sunday Riley eye cream (fabulous) and Sunscreen (really nice with no sunscreen scent, but does need to warm to skin temp before it absorbs all the way in with no white – great from there though). Then I looked at the boxes I received since then and I wasn’t as enthused. So I cancelled. They were able to get my cancelation in before the July box shipped so instead of July being my last box, I won’t be getting a July box.

I think because I was so excited about my Bookishly subscription that I realized how my excitement had dimmed for some of the other subscriptions. I also realized that because I have products to go through I often put off buying products that I like because I don’t want the products I haven’t tried to go to waste. I think eliminating Allure because it no longer excited me and limiting my IPSY to Quarterly will help. I am keeping Boxy for now. I am also sticking with Glossy Box and Look Fantastic because they still excite me, but I will be monitoring them to see if I still like them as their annual renewals come around. (Spring for me).

But you know I love subscription boxes so I will be trying others. Some will be skincare/makeup based, for example I am getting a Roccabox this month to see if it is something I want to add and because Fab Fit Fun had a 40% off their summer box I went ahead and ordered it. (plus they had this Ab exercise tool that I really wanted to try.)

While I adore the beauty boxes, I think I may lean into some of the more life style themed boxes for a bit as well. Not only are they new boxes to try (and I love trying new things) but having non beauty centric subscriptions will let me use up some of my stockpiled products, clearing them out and letting me decide what i really like. I will also get to use more of my makeup products rotating the ones I really like in more often.

I will also be trying more services coming up, like the Yogaworks subscription and the paid Myfitnesspal subscription.

In addition I will feel less guilty about buying things I just want to try out. With purchases I will often see something I wouldn’t mind trying, but then I tell myself, let’s see what comes in this month’s subscription box before I go and purchase anything. Or I will try something from a brand that is new to me in a subscription box (which is my favorite part about subscription boxes) and think, I need to try more from this brand, but then I don’t simply because I have other products to use.

In a few months I may find I miss the subscription boxes and go back. I may find others I like better and let go of my existing subscriptions completely. I may switch to more lifestyle boxes or find d├ęcor items piling up. Things are in a state of flux right now in my personal subscription line up. I am going to be trying out new subscriptions of various kinds and seeing what really excites me and what I need to let go of so that i can enjoy what really excites me. I know a lot of people are looking to change up their own subscriptions so perhaps one of the subscriptions I try will excite you or let you know it isn’t one you need to try. Either way, I hope my shake up will be beneficial. Or at the very least fun to watch.

I know this isn’t the normal daily post, but it has been on my mind for a while and it is nice to just get my thoughts out. But now my darlings it is back to work for me. Have a great rest of your day.

The Daily: July 5th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings and I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. At our place, because we had the weekend cleared for company and company came and went early, we had a fantastically quiet and oddly productive weekend.

There were limited numbers of things we could do in the yard as anything not getting watered (i.e the veg) is more or less dry and crispy. So there was no mowing and only watering the veg sparingly just after sunset.

The sunset watering is of course the reason why I have so many bug bites. The perfect time to water is also the time when they swarm. Thus far they have laughed in the face of any bug spray I have tried. Admittedly I think they wait until I am starting to sweat a little and then go for the spots where the sweat has removed some of the spray.

At least that is my current working theory. If i could figure out a way to get a group of people to hold citronella candles high in a circle around me as i water I would. Sure it would look like some sort of odd midsummer ritual but I might actually itch less. I don’t think I have used this much calamine lotion since I was sent to summer camp as a kid.

But the plants are coming along. We have paperika peppers dried and ready for grinding. Soon we will harvest jalapenos and the squash and eggplant is coming along nicely as well. The tomatoes are slow growing this year but I have high hopes we’ll get something before it is time to winterize the beds and plant the fall Brussel sprouts.

On a less botanical note, with my garden chores reduced to sunset and early morning watering, my nails are recovering. They are still short as they always take a beating during spring planting, but they are healthy and I can now actually put polish on them and expect the polish to last for more than 24 hours. Which is always fun. Over all it was a nice quiet weekend and now, things are getting back into a normal schedule. I suspect by Wednesday I will be freaking out over the Monday Holiday and the time it took out of my work schedule, but for now, I am just basking in the return to my regularly scheduled work day.

Today I wanted to go for a more low key kind of look. And despite getting back into my routine, I really didn’t want to spend a lot of time messing around with my makeup so I decided to go for a quick and light look. The primer I am still testing out and it does not really lend itself to quick. It needs a minute or two to settle in and get comfortable. So I applied it and then went and did a couple of things for about five minutes before coming back. With that little time, it really helped and I am growing fonder of this primer. It is nicely porefilling and blends well.

I always get a little nervous when I first apply the wet n wild as it always looks a little too light. But it blends beautifully if you are just looking for a light coverage. It claims to be buildable, but I generally find if I try to build it, then it gets a little streaky. I love this tinted moisturizer for a light touch though. Just be aware it looks light at first but blends out well. And don’t really expect it to be build up to fuller coverage.

The trestique I love and it worked well here as always. It is buildable but today I went in with a light hand and was pleased with how it worked.

The Pixi came in a Glossy Box so i decided to try it out. It seemed to work okay with the tinted moisturizer but tomorrow I may have to try it with an actual foundation. It is really a light product and the highlighter came off a little more powder like than highlighter. I will be playing around with it before i decide. It was okay today, By the end of the week I will know a little more.

I used one matte and one shimmer for my eye look today, Subtle and natural is really not this shadows reference point. it is highly pigmented and wants to go on strong. Since I have three of these mini palettes, I am going to be rotating through them this week as sort of a mini collection to see how I feel about them I like them this far, but I don’t think this particular mini palette is designed for a low key look. At least not on my skin tone.

I love the Wander Beauty Mascara, but I am almost out. This tube has been well loved and sadly this is the end for it. Thee was almost no product left and so this was it’s last showing. I will be replacing it sometime soon however. This mascara will return.

Even thought my brows aren’t really visible they do look nice under my bangs, and as my bags blow around, I like that my brows look nice. The more i use this brow kit, the faster I am and the more convenient it feels.

And finally I went back for the gloss bomb. I’m not the biggest Fenty Fan, but I love this gloss bomb and will repurchase it. In fact I am looking at several shades I want to add right now. I’ll do a lip inventory first, but I really like this formula. it looks god on and leaves my lips nourished when it comes off. With this one, Fenty hit it out of the park.

And so my darlings this is me today. Not fantastically exciting, but I am rather pleased with how it turned out. I hope wherever you are, your week is starting off on the right foot as well.

Ah, deep breath in, deep breath out. Company came, company departed. And the newly cleaned bathrooms were put to good use. Apparently while road trips are now okay for some of my family, they are still leery of public rest rooms so everyone walked in and lined up at the bathroom doors. So glad I took the time to do a fresh clean.

As I wasn’t expecting them until Saturday, and I thought they were staying over, this week has had to have some last second adjustments. So yesterday very little got done, which means today will be rather insane. It also means that Friday won’t be insane and I may actually have a quiet fourth of July Weekend.

Well quiet barring the fireworks. And my babydoll is kind of tickled that he only has to worry about cooking what we want to eat for the weekend festivities. Several of our erstwhile visitors have food sensitivities and because he grew up with a friend with peanut allergies he has this deep rooted fear of accidentally sending someone to the hospital. Apparently there was a peanut related incident at a family barbeque that left a lasting impression.

So he will be more relaxed as well this weekend. And as his allergies have been taking him out more and more, I think he kind of needs that. Actually we had an amusing conversation about that the other day. He was wondering why his allergies were bothering him more this year than they had in the past few and realized that as restrictions have eased he is wearing his face mask less this year. The mask was actually helping to filter out some of the allergens. So now he is thinking of strategically going back to wearing the face mask when running around town.

The mask is now his friend.

Which considering how much time he spent griping about having to wear it kind of makes me smile. Sometimes it is the little things in life that bring the most amusement.

Foundation: Revolution Fast Base Foundation Stick (Summer sale started 50% off selected items)

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Gold Rush Blush (Sample Boxes are now back in stock)

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

As I have been attempting various reorganization patterns with my makeup, I have come across several sample sized primers that I forgot I had. So I may be using them up for a little bit. And yes I know the Tatcha one is coming in this weekend and I probably won’t be able to resist using it, but I did open one of my samples. I am really trying to clear out all of the sample sizes so I can determine if they are worth picking up in the full size or if they just need to clear out to make space. In the same vein I am also trying to use up products that are near the end of their life so there will be some repeats moving forward.

I kind of like this Unicorn Glow Primer. A little goes a long way and it is on the dewy side of things, but it is helping to keep my makeup in place longer and I like the look of it. I used the Fast Base from Revolution because I really love the formula. It doesn’t need to be armed up and glides on easily and blends in. It is one of my two summer shades of stick foundation so it will be in rotation for a bit (the other is ABH). While this is a relatively matte foundation, when paired with a glowy primer like this, it can make me look a little greasy, which is why I opted for powdered face products. Especially rolling in the No 7 powder. I have needed to touch up with the powder throughout the day, but part of that is because it is June in Tennessee andpart is that I am not a fan of the wet look as I always feel it makes me look greasy.

The too Faced is perfect at this time of year as it has the right buildable shade and just a tough of gold to go with the sun. The blush too is one of my faves. Both the blush and the No 7 powder are showing pan and I doubt either will make it past the end of summer. Which is fine. I love them both and while I will have to talk myself out of repurchasing the No 7 immediately so I can use up a few other powders the Gold Rush has been out of stock for a while so I will have to find another blush when it is gone. I suspect i will put that off until there is no more in the box as I really love it.

Today’s eyeshadow was the Natasha Denona Mini palette Cupid. I couldn;t find it on the site so the link just takes you to the selection of mini palettes. I personally like these. They each have 5 rather large pans and the color selection is pretty well thought out. The color story is well thought out and it is easy to grab and use. The shadows are fantastically pigmented. The issue I have is that I think when I pick it up I will create more or less the same look each time. This is my first time using it, so perhaps that won’t be the case. we shall see as i continue using it. I will say it is quick and easy to grab and use when you are in a hurry.

You know I love the Big Poppa Mascara. It has been on the favorites list since it came out. This is the last use for this tube though. I think I might not have closed it all the way as it is a little dried out. Today I used it but I think that was it for this tube. It will be replaced soon and another Big Poppa will take it’s place.

I chose the Mischa lipstick today because I couldn’t remember if I used it before or not. It is a lips stick/lip balm cross and actually feels quite good on the lips. The color is supposed to be a sheer wash of color, which it is. The lipstick is darker in the tube then on the lips which at first was disappointing as I really liked the color in the tube. But I think the color turned out well today. It feels really comfortable to wear and while it does leave a little bit of smudge marks on glass rims, it doesn’t leave colored lip prints everywhere which I like. I may have to pull this into rotation more often. Thus far I am liking it.

And so my darlings, that is me today. I’m rather pleased with how things turned out. And now it is back to work for me. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your afternoon.

The Daily: June 29th, 2022

I’m afraid my darlings today’s Daily is going to be short and fast. A group of my family went on a road trip and planned to stop by. I was given dates for the weekend, but just got a call saying they will be here in an hour. I’m sure I will learn why things changed when they get here. Saturday is usually the cleaning day at our house, but I planned to take off early and get it done Thursday afternoon. It won’t be too bad, but I can’t not clean a little extra for company. So before they arrive, I need to do a quick clean and make sure that at least the bathrooms are company ready. So tomorrow I’ll be back to normal, at the moment, I have a date with some bathroom cleaner. Happy Wednesday.
