Unboxing the Macy’s Beauty Box for April 2022

The April Subscriptions have started to arrive and first to arrive is the Macy’s Beauty Box. It is a $15 beauty box ($16.46 with taxes). Inside you are supposed to get five plus items plus a beauty bag. Some months they substitute the beauty bag with something else. In the past the substitutions have been quite nice. There was a travel flat iron one month and a mini curling wand another. There was a bag of reusable TSA approved bottles.

Macy’s has been a great subscription in the past. I’ll be honest though, lately it has been slipping a bit. The last couple have been a bit on the disappointing side. with Macy’s though you have to cancel by the 10th of the month. If you cancel after the tenth of the month then you will still be charged for the following month. Because this is the seventh I did open my box and decide to cancel. This should be my last Macy’s box for a while. I realized that I was no longer looking forward to it. I used to really look forward to this box. I have actually occasionally been more excited for this box than I have been for the more expensive boxes I am subscribed to.

So I decided that rather than to give it a few more months and hope that it gets better, I would let it go and monitor the items in the months I don’t get and if I feel like I am getting more excited for it, then I will resubscribe. And I’ll be quite honest, one of the main reasons that I went ahead and cancelled was because of the Beauty Bag. Last month it was replaced with a really cheap notepad that I could not only pick up at the Dollar Store but would be surprised if the dollar store actually charged me a full dollar. This month they sent a shower cap.

I know April Showers and all that, I get it.

But it is a shower cap. It isn’t the cheapest shower cap I’ve seen, but it isn’t the best either. It is kind of a mid grade shower cap. It has a nice design on it but it isn’t exactly something I am going to get excited about. It’s a $2 shower cap.

But lets look at the rest of the bag. Usually there are five or more items included and then they add two perfume samples. This month they have five items and the one perfume sample included is considered a sixth item and is listed in the pamphlet (they aren’t always.)

Lets start with the perfume sample. It is from the brand Clean and is the Scent Rain. Which I’m guessing goes along with the April showers theme and the shower cap. Clean is one of those perfume brands that I have tried in the past and wish I liked more. I love the look of their bottles but often find their scents overpowering. i would love to find that this is one I like, so I will keep my fingers crossed. I will add it to the line up of samples I am working my way through and hopefully it will come up trumps.

The next item is a travel size of the Nail Polish Remover from Mineral Fusion. It is a non-drying and Acetone Free nail polish remover. I have tried it before as it is sold in the Publix where I get my groceries and I did like it. It has been a while since I used it and I am happy to give it another try.

The next three items are all body items. I’m guessing since you use them in the shower then it fits with the April showers theme. I’m not sure how the nail polish remover fits, but I can see the logic in these three. The first of these is the Mario Badescu Coconut Body Scrub. I love body scrubs. In fact i use them at least once a week. I try not to go overboard with them but there is just something that just feels so deeply cleansing about using a body scrub.

Well the right body scrub that is. Sometimes they leave a film on the skin which isn’t pleasant. But a nice body scrub is always fantastic. I’ll admit I am not the biggest fan of coconut, but this sample is only large enough to get me through one maybe two showers (although I think two might be pushing it) so it is not lily the scent will bother me for long. I do loon forward to trying it.

I am very happy to see the Rituals Ritual of Sakura foaming shower gel. I have used this before and I love the cherry scent. I also love foaming shower gel. This is a win for me and I am happy to have it. I also look forward to using it. Look Fantastic Actually has this offered for $12.50 and I almost bought it when I was on their site yesterday actually. It is a wonderful spring time scent. It has that cherry blossom scent without being too overpoweringly floral and overly sweet. Sometimes when cherry scents get too sweet they remind me of cough syrup. Or maybe those Luten’s cough drops. Either way not a scent that I want to bath in. This Rituals scent is light enough and fresh enough that it doesn’t lean in that direction. Plus I really do like foaming body wash. I’m sure it is a childish part of me that want’s to make Santa Clause beards in the bath with the bubble bath, but I still like it. But Speaking of Look Fantastic, they have a sale going on for their Grow Gorgeous Hair Care Products. Their Intense Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner are among my favorite hair care products of all time. I always stock up when they have a sale. It was actually why I was on the site. The sale last’s through the 12th I believe. The Link will take you there.

The Clarins Body Fit Anti Cellulite Contouring Expert cream was quite a surprise. I love the Clarin’s eye cream and they make a really great primer but I somehow missed the fact that they made body products. I have to say the directions are kind of amusing. The directions say “In large sweeping motions apply from Ankles to waist.” I laugh because of the size of the sample. I can tell you right now it is not covering my body from ankles to waist. I will use it on my cellulite dimpled midsection and if there is any left over I will try it out on my thighs but I don’t think this sample will cover more than that. I am looking forward to giving it a try though. I am a fan of Clarins and in general their products perform well for me. I just think I’m not going to cover a lot of ground with this sample. While this cream retails for $71 at the moment Allbeauty has it on sale for $44.10. (It is apparently 38% off. I’m not sure what the significance of the 38% off is, but I do like a good sale. And if I like this sample I may pick it up for a full size trial. I am always happy to get rid of cellulite dimples.

And this brings is to the final item in the beauty box which is the Tony Moly I’m Red Wine sheet mask. I like sheet masks, and I like Tony Moly. I have tried quite a few of their masks before and I have usually liked them. I haven’t tried this one and look forward to giving it a test spin.

many of the products in this box were nice. I am mostly excited about the Body Fit cream from Clarins and I am thrilled I get to test it out. I like the Rituals because I have used it before and know that I like it. And I really have nothing against any of the products in the box, except maybe the shower cap. I even get the shower themed, however this subscription is no longer one that I am excited to see each month so even though i really do like several of these items, I am letting this subscription go for a while. I may return, I may not, only time will tell. But for now this is my last Macy’s Beauty Box.

Unboxing the March 2022 Macy’s beauty Box

I am very used to getting the Macy’s box at the beginning of the month so when this turned up over the weekend I was surprised and thought, ‘Oh yeah, it never did arrive.’ Typically this box charges to my account on the 25th of the previous month and arrives around the 9th. This month it charged on the 11th and arrived on the 19th. This is a $15 per month beauty box and it generally has five items and a makeup bag and about two perfume samples. Occasionally they will replace the beauty bag with a small item.

In the past the bags have been replaced with a set of reusable travel containers that were TSA approved. One month in a hair care themed month the bag was replaced by a mini travel flat iron. In general this has been a fantastic beauty box. many of the items are higher end and it allows me to try these products without spending a lot. Which saves me both money and keeps me from wasting products.

Last month was okay but not fabulous and this month is…not really my favorite. But let’s get into it.

First off this month was the theme Let’s Go Girls and it spotlights products from female owned brands. It has been a common theme this month as it is Women’s History month and I have to say in other subscriptions I have been blown away by some of the products I didn’t know were from female owned brands. This was not the case here.

This month they chose to replace the bag with a notebook that says Girl Power on the front. Which is fine, I can always use another notebook. I have one with a different logo but otherwise identical in the glove box of my car at the moment. I use to to track my mileage and gasoline purchases. It cost me $0.97 at the Dollar Store. which makes it less impressive to see here. And I think it sort of set the tone for me. I felt disappointed in the notebook and then I looked at the other items and there seemed far fewer of them than usual.

The reason it seemed like less is because there were no perfume samples in this month’s bag. There is a scented product which I suppose is why they decided to leave them out. I am used to opening the bag and feeling like it is over flowing with product. This month just felt like something was missing. I even checked the box twice to make sure nothing had been left in the box.

The second item in this month’s box was a makeup sponge from Natasha Moor. It is a nice makeup sponge. It feels like it is a decent quality and it has an angled end which I really enjoy on my makeup sponges. So this I am not mad about. It is a nice sponge, shaped in the way I prefer and it is a lovely maroon color. It is a fantastic item in the box.

The second item in this month’s Beauty Box is a Nudestix Bronzer. I have tried Nudestix lip products but never their bronzer. I am happy to give it a go even though I am not blown away by Nudestix lip products. One of my favorite bronzers is a cream stick formula so this might actually be another one I can add to my list of products to buy.

The third item in my box this month I will be passing on unopened. It is the Girlactik Rose Oil Petal Gloss. It is full size, which is nice. I already have this exact lip oil. And while I do love lip oils this one tastes like you accidentally sprayed perfume on your lips. It is pretty with the rose petals inside, but it isn’t my favorite product. So i will be passing it along unopened.

The Fourth Item I will also be passing along. It is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. It is actually a good brow product. I also currently have three in my collection. It is a nice formula that I do use. It isn’t my favorite formula, but it is nice. For some reason the Brow Wiz has been popping up a lot lately for me. Most of the time my bangs cover my brows so i just give them a good comb with a spoolie. My favorite brow product is from Billion dollar Brows and it is the pomade, so I tend to reach for that first. I know Macy’s can’t be blamed for me already having a product, but it is still disappointing to pass along.

The final item i will be keeping. It is the Sea Salt Surf from the Broken Top Candle Company. It is an essential oil Perfume. A sniff of the tip smells nice so I will roll it into my perfume trials and see how it performs. I know it is the reason there are no perfume samples in this month’s box so it is a relief that i did like the scent of it.

Over all the products were nice. the notebook felt cheap and the lack of perfume samples made it feel like something was missing. I think what actually disappoints me is that this beauty box is often one where I end up getting samples from brands I’ve never heard of or only heard of and never tried. With the exception of the Broken Top Candle Co’s scent, I knew these products and these brands. Four out of five of them I knew were female owned. while I generally love the trying out new things aspect of subscription boxes, I think this month they played it really safe. I think this would have been a good time to play up products that people might not have realized were women owned.

It wasn’t a bad box, in fact the products are over all very good. They are just safe and familiar. Except for the notebook. That was just cheap. For the first time since starting this subscription, I am actually contemplating letting them go. I will be paying close attention next month to see how they perform. If they continue in the okay but not great category I might let them go and give another subscription a try. There are so many out there now and I am at the point where I can’t really try out another one without letting something go. Part of that is monetary, I can only afford to pay for so many subscription boxes. The other part is product acquisition. It is actually more of a factor than money on occasion when dealing with subscription boxes. Too many subscriptions and you end up with product overload. I love subscription boxes, but it is a balance. Macy’s is one I will be watching closely in the next few months. Perhaps it might be time to let it go or this could just me an off month and next month they will come out gang busters. They have had some spectacular boxes so I am not willing to give up on them yet. But I will be watching.

Its time for the February 2022 Macy’s Beauty box

After the back and forth with the post office last month this month, my Macy’s Beauty Box arrived a day before it was slated to. It was a February miracle. I really do like the Macy’s Beauty box actually. It is $15 per month ($16.46 with tax) and I almost always end up using all of the items. This month was a little odd because it didn’t come with any perfume samples. It was a little strange not to see them if I am honest. I think they didn’t include them because there was one item that could have crushed them. Either that or they couldn’t find any perfumes that fit their theme.

This month’s theme is black-owned beauty. It is being done in honor of Black History Month. And I have to say some of the products look really good. Also this month’s box was really heavy. It came in at 2lbs. I can’t remember what last month’s box weighed in at, but I know it was significantly lighter. But let’s get into the Beauty box.

The first item is a makeup bag. Usually they have some kind of bag, or they will put in an item that takes the place of a bag. this month they have a bag. It is stiff black canvas with the word love on it. The exterior is a heavy canvas and the inside is a thick wipeable plastic. It looks quite heavy duty and durable. There is no information about the bag in the enclosed card. So that is all i know about it. It seems nice though.

the heavy item that may have crushed perfumes and made the package weigh two pounds is a full sized bottle (500 ml) of Urban Hydration Lemon and Berries Micellar water. I can’t smell anything through the seal, but i am always down to use a good micellar water. I have never heard of the brand before but love that the water is blended with Vitamins A and E. I’m going to leave it sealed until I try it, but i am really looking forward to trying it.

I am also really excited to try the Lovinah Skincare Blue Butterfly mask. I know when am I not excited about masks. But first off the small glass container feels luxe in the hand. There is something about gold lettering on black glass that just gets me. I know, I’m easy. However in the picture in the brochure the mask looks very blue.

I looked at it and thought, there is no way that mask is that blue. So I opened it. Holy cats it is that blue. Since I opened it i will probably be using it as my face mask for tomorrow. And because I just can’t resist the blue. It’s like smurf blue. That is going to be so much fun. And hopefully skincare-tastick too. The blue just gets me though.

The third item in this month’s box was the Butta Skin Aha/BHA rosewater toner. There was a little bit of leakage from this toner in the bag, but luckily it was fully encased in it’s own bubble wrap bag so it didn’t go on everything. And there was only minor leakage. Just a few drops, nothing major. It is enough to let me know this smells very rosy though. Rose is one of those things that some times i like some times I don’t. I love the Nuxe rose scents with both their moisturizer and their mask(both are absolutely fantastic), but there are other skincare brands that just can’t pull it off. We’ll have to see which category this one fits in when we try it out. I do love that it is in a glass bottle though.

The next item I have tried before and really liked. It is the Rucker Roots GTC Curly Hair cream. When my hair is shorter, or has more layers, it has a bit of curl. Not a huge amount, but some that I can enhance with a curling iron. It has a light clean scent to it, is very lightweight in the hair and provides moisture without looking greasy. What I like to do is use my curling iron to help with whatever curls I am using for the day and then put some of the cream on my hands before i finger comb the curls out. It helps fight the dryness from the heat and works really ell with my hair even though i don’t have massively curly hair.

And finally we come to the Shea Yeleen Coconut Melon Shea Body Cream. I love Shea butter in my body creams and I think Melon should be used more as a scent. I mean seriously, think how refreshing that would smell in the summertime? I am a huge melon fan and it just doesn’t come along often. I can’t smell anything through the seal but I have my fingers crossed that the coconut doesn’t dominate. I just finished a small tube of lotion so I am more than happy to roll this into rotation. And yes I have my fingers crossed for melon. I’ll let you know how that works out.

As for now, I think this is a great mix of products. There is only one that I have tried and i am hoping to get my hair trimmed soon. once i get layers put back into my hair I will be doing a lot more styling. With this length and the fact that it is pretty much all the same length at this point, I haven’t been doing much to my hair other than tying it back. I was trying to grow out my last ill-fated attempt to put layers in myself. (It was not a good idea and some things you should just leave to a trained stylist. Or at least i should. I shouldn’t be left alone with scissors and intent at least). My attempt has grown out so there is now plenty for the stylist to work with when I actually get a chance to book an appointment. I tried last week but they had too many stylists out and everyone in was overbooked. But soon….soooooon.

All in all though i really liked this bag. The Micellar water and toner look like interesting products to try, I am enthralled by the blue mask, happy with the hair product and keeping my fingers crossed about the body lotion. That makes this a really good month in general for me. If you are looking for monetary value, that is there too. While I payed $15 the box this month is said to have an $83.24 value. I think a chunk of the value is in the blue mask. It looks luxe and a full sized container is $82. While the monetary value is good and I certainly think I got my money’s worth, they are all products I will use, which makes it worth my while to subscribe. February was a good Macy’s month.

Unboxing the Macy’s Beauty Box for January 2022

Oh Macys. I always love your beauty box, but this month, you gave me anxiety. Sometimes having access to all of the tracking information can drive you a little bit mental. This Macy’s Beauty box is $15 per month ($16.46 with tax) and is usually a really good Beauty Subscription.

They tend to lean towards more high end products. I really like this because often the products they send are ones I would really like to try, but don’t want to experiment with at that price range. If I like them, I’ll end up buying them, but honestly I like to try even drug store products before I pick up a full sized version. I just don’t like buying any product and then have it go to waste because I simply didn’t like it. I’d rather try out the sample first. with the higher end products, this personality quirk also helps me save a bit of money.

Usually Macy’s charges for their Beauty box around the 27th of the Month before (charging in December for January’s Box) and then they send the box out the first or second week of the month. This month I was Charged January 3rd (Which I suspect had more to do with the Holidays than anything else). Then later on the 3rd I received an e-mail saying the boxes would be shipped late that month. Again that isn’t an uncommon thing. But then I received a tracking number on the 4th saying it would arrive on the 14th.

I figured they weren’t running as late as they thought. Then on the 14th it claimed to be at my local post office but was listed as delayed. It was out for delivery on the 18th and then it actually arrived on January 21st. I’m sure that mostly has to do with the post office and not Macys. It just felt a bit like a saga to get it here.

So what arrived in this box the Post Office seemed intent on keeping for themselves? Well the first item out of the box would make me want to keep it for myself. It is a travel size of the Elemis Cleansing Balm. I can’t be mad at a subscription that sends and Elemis Cleansing Balm. At least not on the month they send it. This is hands down, my favorite cleansing balm. And I am happy to have it in any size.

The second item out of the box is a deluxe sample sized tube of the AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream. It is a classic and it is a fantastic hand cream. With AHAVA I am hit or miss with their other products, but their hand creams are fantastic. This one has a really light scent and is not only super moisturizing but excellent for those with a sensitivity to strongly scented skincare products. After trying out the Bloom and Blossom, the low scent is actually kind of nice.

The third item is one I have seen before. It either arrived in this subscription box or a Birchbox. I can’t remember which, but I am very pleased to have it. This is the Clarins Total Eye Lift. It is a great product and I enjoyed using it. The biggest issue is that there was almost no product in my last tube. I tried it for two days I believe, before it ran out. This one feels just as light. I’m going to roll it into my line up right away simply because I don’t think it is going to last more than a couple of days and I know I like it so i might as well clear the sample out while using up the discontinued Bright Eyes I am currently working through. Plus when samples are so small I always worry the air in the rest of the tube is going to make the sample go bad. I’m sure it won’t but I’d like to just like to go ahead and use it up rather than have it kick around the drawer for later.

Continuing on there is the Youth Haus Glow and Go Gold Eye recovery Eye patches. While I have never heard of the brand, I do love eye patches. This is a single set so I will put it with my other single sets. I really need to actually use the single set ones. I usually just buy a pack of my favorite brand, use them and then just re order forgetting that I have singles from subscription boxes. I may make a concentrated effort to work through them to see if any of them are as good as my standard and deserve to be ordered in a full sized box as well. Regardless, I am always happy to see another set of eye patches.

Moving along is a box that dominates this month’s subscription items and I think it may be a full size. It is a set of the Babor HydraPlus Hydration Ampule Concentrates. It says there are seven Ampuls, so a week’s worth if you are using them daily. When I went on the website they seemed to sell the boxes in the same size as full sixed (for $29.95 on one of my favorite sites The Skinstore), so I think this is the full sized item. Which is kind of awesome for a $15 beauty box. The description sounds like they are amazing for winter dry skin, so I may be trying these out soon. As the cold settles in, my skin just dries out more and more. So perfect timing from Macys. Someone there was thinking.

Usually there are two perfume samples in this box, but this month there was just one. It is the Beautiful Magnolia from Este Lauder. This is a brand that I think everyone recognizes. They have been around for a long time and I know there heaps of long term fans out there. I have to confess, I don’t think I have ever tried anything from the brand. I vaguely recall something that might have come in from a subscription box, but i think I might have passed it on. Or if I tried it I have no recollection of it. which is kind of strange since they are so well known. I think my Aunt has been using their foundation since before I tried out my first lip balm. And you know I love trying out perfumes. I will definitely have to give this a go. And perhaps look into more Este Lauder trials at some point. It just feels strange to realize I’ve not tried the brand when it has been a part of my little corner of the world for so long.

But that my darlings is the January Macy’s Beauty Box. It had to fight it’s way through the postal system to arrive here, but I have to say it was worth it. There are products I know, love and will use as well as products that I am really looking forward to trying out. This was a great month. Actually most of the Beauty Subscriptions are having a really good January. I know I’ve sounded very up about my subscriptions this month, but it seems like everyone is just intent on making January a really good month. I don’t know if it is a start the new year off right sort of plan or a determination to make 2022 a really good year, but I hope that they can keep it up.

And possibly sort out shipping.

The bar has been set pretty high for subscription boxes this year. I can’t wait to see what February brings.

Unboxing the December 2021 Macy’s Beauty Box

Ah yes my darlings, the December subscriptions continue. I think today is the last day though. I believe everything has now arrived. which is nice, because before New Year’s I want to do a sort of mini-purge and put things in a more organized or at least slightly more thought out location so I can more easily use up products that are almost empty and try out new things. And it is nice to have all of December’s new things in before I start to putting away and sorting process.

But that is an entirely different topic. This is a post about the Macy’s Beauty Box. It is $15 per month and I have to admit, this month they had me a bit worried. Usually the charge for the box posts to my bank around the 27th of the month prior. So I expected to be charged for December’s box on November 27th. when I wasn’t i thought maybe Thanksgiving had shifted dates around. I wasn’t charged until December 15th for this month’s box though. Which is odd because usually it arrives around the tenth of the month. I actually thought they might have decided I didn’t need December’s box.

I checked the website but by then they were already advertising for January’s box. while this has consistently been one of my favorite subscriptions for a while, getting information from Macy’s about it is awful. Even finding information about how to contact them about the box is a pain. With the Beauty box it is almost like they take a ‘you get what you get, so don’t bother us’ approach. The box is usually fantastic though so I just ignore customer service.

Usually the Macy’s Beauty box comes with a makeup bag. I have really liked the bags I’ve gotten from them in the past and they tend to be ones I reuse. I kind of like having a solid reusable item in my bags as well as the products I just use up and let go. Sometimes they replace the bag with another item. This month, they chose to replace the bag with a Sutra Beauty Travel Curling Iron. well it says it’s a curling iron but it is a curling wand.

Maybe it is just me but I always think of curling irons as clamping the hair between the metal where as the wands don’t have that clamp. I don’t mind it though, I like both, its just how I think of terms. The wand is from Sutra Beauty. I actually need to replace my curling iron at the moment. The travel one won’t work for every day use, but it is nice to have for the occasional curling of the ends. I will be playing around with it to see how it performs. which I am kind of looking forward to as I am trying to decide if I want to buy a curling wand or a more traditional clamping curling iron. So this actually helps me out in my decision making process.

The box this month also has a set of scrunchies. One is black and the other gold. The material is slick and shiny which isn’t my favorite, but they have a nice sheen to them and the elastic feels quite substantial. Also I killed just as many scrunchies this summer as I did t-shirts so I am actually running low on usable ones that look halfway decent. The scrunchie pile is another one I have to go through this week so that I am good for the new year. The two scrunchies aren’t mentioned in the pamphlet that came with the box, and there was no information on the bag they were in, so I don’t know what brand they are. I also think they might have just been a little extra something that Macy’s just tossed in. Either way, they are at least useful.

There is a small container of the Belief moisturizer in this month’s box. This version is the The True Cream Aqua Bomb. Belief moisturizers are a beauty box staple. I have to admit that I kind of like the little top had sort of lid. Usually I just pass them on because they work better with drier skin than mine. However I am at the driest skin time of the year so i may give this one a go. Also there was a moisturizer malfunction this week and I am not opposed to rolling in a pinch hitter. This contains just enough product that it may get me through the rest of the week. Or at least a few days while I figure out what moisturizer to try next. I’ll get into more details with the skincare line up, but the end result is that while a belief moisturizer doesn’t usually thrill me, at the moment it is a quite timely arrival so I am more enthusiastic about it than usual.

The next item in this month’s box is the Smashbox Photo Finish Smooth and Blur Primer. It is not a new to me product but it is one I haven’t seen in a while. I used to love this primer actually. Then I moved on and haven’t used it in several years. I remember really liking it when I used it, but it will be interesting to see how it fares against the primers I am loving right now. I know the theme of this month’s box is Party prep, but it sort of has a bit of a throwback vibe to it, at least for me. First with this primer and then with the next item.

With this next item the throw back vibe continues with the NYX Butter Gloss. Incidentally NYX has a 20% sale going on on-line if you are looking to stock up. Again, for a long time this was a go to product for me. I had multiple shades. I wore them constantly and I loved the formula. I used many tubes until there was absolutely nothing left. But again, over time they were purged from my collection (through use and expiration date not because of issues) and now I can’t remember the last time I used a NYX Butter Gloss. I am actually looking forward to trying it out again.

While I do recall seeing the Tart Lash paint before, I have never tried it. It is one of the few Tarte Mascaras I have never tried and as I generally like Tarte mascaras, I am excited to give it a go. have the eyeliner from this line and it works really well so I have high hopes all around.

And it wouldn’t be a Macy’s beauty box if it didn’t include perfume samples. This month the two samples are from Dior. One is Miss Dior, which I have to admit is on my list of perfumes to try. I have heard some very good things about it. Plus you know I am always up for trying new perfumes out. the second scent is the Dior Sauvage. It kind of amuses me because I have seen this ad a ton recently. No matter where I am watching a show, if it has commercials chances are I will see an ad for Sauvage. Its like they are stalking me.

It is the commercial with Johnny Depp and the wolves. I always end the commercial thinking Johnny Depp looks puffy. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Johnny Depp. I think part of it is that I just re-watched willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory and so that version is fresher in my mind. I also think wow he looks tan, but that is also because he is so very pale in Willy Wonka.

Johnny Depp aside, it is interesting to get a chance to try a scent that advertisers seem so intent on selling me. Plus I tend to like a lot of the scents that are designated for men. But I am looking forward to trying out both scents.

And that was my Macy’s beauty box for the month of December. Was it the most exciting box? No. Usually I am much more excited about trying out the items sent to me. But we are also coming off of Novembers Box. November was a brand take over with YSL which was absolutely amazing, so it is hard to compete with that. I do have an interesting nostalgia vibe from it because many the products are former favorites. Exciting or not I will use every item in the box which, in my opinion, makes it a pretty good box. And the Sutra Curling wand will absolutely help me decide about a future purchase I will have to make fairly soon. At the moment I haven’t been doing much with my hair because my curling iron is unreliable. So the travel wand is both fun and useful for me right now. So I am very happy that Macy’s did not forget me and that I did receive my December Beauty Box. And I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with in January.

Unboxing the November 2021 Macy’s Beauty Box

The Subscription boxes for November have started to arrive. The first of the beauty subscription to make it to my door this month is the Macy’s Beauty Box. November was a special edition and I have to say, I didn’t see any spoilers or notes on this so I was very surprised when I opened it and found it was the Yves Saint Laurent edit. That’s right everything from the bag to the products is from YSL.

We’ve had a couple of items from YSL in the Macy’s beauty box before. I have a lipstick and a primer from the brand that both came from Macy’s. That is actually one of the things that I really like about the Macy’s Beauty box. They may have samples, but they tend to lean into the higher end brands . With higher end brands I really like trying samples before I purchase them. There are a lot of higher end products that I’ve tried and loved, but there are a lot of pricy items that simply didn’t work for me. Trying them out in a smaller size from a subscription box like this lets me see if the product is right for me before I spend the money on it.

So let’s see what is in the YSL Macy’s Beauty Box.

The first thing is the bag. I know sometimes the bag is just extra. This bag is extra in a different way. It is a brown, almost maroon tones faux leather bag with gold detailing I love the little metal cut outs and the fact that the YSL logo is done in raise metal lettering. It feels and looks super luxe. I suspect it might be one of the makeup bags I pack for the upcoming thanksgiving holiday. Mostly because it just looks too fab not to use.

Once I got over the sight of the bag I found the infamous OOPS card. So I knew that there would be a substitution in my bag. Knowing this, I decided to look at the items I received before looking at the card and then figure out where the exchange was.

Looking at the items, I’ll start with the two perfume samples. In general each Macy’s Beauty Box comes with two samples and they are not considered part of the five bag items. They are just standard extras. At least that is how I think of them. So the first of these samples was the YSL Libre eau de toilette and the second is the YSL Men’s eau de parfum. Even though one is listed as a men’s fragrance, I look forward to giving them both a try. Sometimes I prefer a more masculine scent. Perhaps this will be one of those times. Either way I will set them aside with the rest of the waiting perfume samples so they may have their turn as a trial scent.

There was another perfume in my bag this month. This is a .25 oz deluxe sample of the Mon Paris from YSL. I know everything is from YSL so I probably don’t need to keep saying it. Listing the brand with the product is a hard habit to break though. The sample comes in a lovely little glass bottle. It will go onto the shelf with the other larger perfumes rather than into the box with the smaller samples. I am looking forward to giving the perfume a try. I have to say the bottle is pretty but I find I really like the look of the box it came in. The black with the pink and gold is just an elegant looking combination. I know that doesn’t really matter, but I do like the look of it.

From perfume we move into the one skincare item in this box. It is the Pure Shots Night reboot Resurfacing serum. I have never used any YSL skincare and to be honest, I didn’t realize YSL made skincare. I find the night serum interesting. I don’t know if you are supposed to use it in conjunction with a night moisturizer or instead of and will have to take a look to find out before I open it. But I think it will be fun to try.

From here we delve back into makeup. The first makeup item is the Radical Volumizing Mascara. This mascara is supposed to volumize and lengthen. As those are the two things I always want my mascara to do, I am a happy camper. Or I will be if the claims prove to be accurate. The formula is also infused with argan oil and pro vitamin B5. As my hair and skin always do well with argan oil I don’t know why my lashes wouldn’t. I think that I will be rotating this mascara into my routine very soon as I am curious about the length and the volume so I guess I’ll see how my lashes feel about argan oil soon enough.

The last two items in my beauty box this month are lip products. The first is the same Rouge Volupte Shine in Oil stick hydrating lipstick balm I have received in a past bag (I think it was either a Red Carpet look Themed Bag or an award winning products bag. Either way I really enjoy the formula of it. The color is slightly on the pink side for me, despite looking very red, but with a darker lip liner under it, the color deeps into something I prefer. The formula is very good and very hydrating. It isn’t terribly long wearing but the lips stay hydrated long after the color disappears.

The second lip product in the box is the Rouge Pur Couture No 70 Lipstick. It is a more neutral pink toned lip stick. From the swatch it seems to have more of a satin type finish to it. I can’t wait to try it out and see how it performs.

So those were my items, but you remember there was that little oops card at the initial unboxing. And so into the little booklet we go. The item not pictured is the second lipstick. The Rouge Pur Couture no 70. That was the substitution. What I should have received is the 0.25 oz perfume sample of Libre eau de Parfum. While I would have loved to have that perfume and I would have loved to compare the parfum to the toilette of the same name, I am okay with receiving one more lipstick and one less perfume. There are two samples of perfume as well as one deluxe sixe sample in the bag. So I am happy with the substitution.

It also helps that I am still trying to work my way through a back log of perfume samples. One less, isn’t going to break me. And you know, I always love having an extra lipstick around. Over all I am very pleased with the items that came in this month’s Macy’s beauty box. It is a $15 subscription and this is one subscription I can definitely see myself carrying forward into the new year.

The arrival of Macy’s Beauty box, October 2021

It is with the Macy’s Beauty box that I have really felt the postal delays, at least in the past few months. I know, as of this moment, Glossy Box still hasn’t mailed out for the month of October, let alone arrived, but the Macy’s beauty Box causes me the most postal angst.

This is a $15 per month subscription and quite honestly i always feel like I get more than I was expecting with the box. Some months are better than others, which happens with all subscriptions, but I still always feel like I receive more than I expect. I think part of that is the perfume samples. While each month you are supposed to receive five items, and a bag (or something replacing the bag, you also get two perfume samples on top of the other samples. As a result it just feels like more.

Plus I always love having extra perfume samples to try out.

Typically this subscription renews around the 27th of the month prior. So, for example, I was charged September 27th for the October Beauty Box. This box was mailed out actually on October 1st. Or at least that is when I received the tracking e-mail. Everything seemed to be going well until it reached Smyrna. According to the tracking codes it arrived in Smyrna on October 6th. And there it stayed until October 18th. And that my darlings is when it arrived at my mail box.

Of course tracking still says it is in Smyrna , so perhaps it escaped without anyone knowing.

I know everyone is dealing with all sorts of delays and such, but for some reason it is, for me the Macy’s Beauty box where it shows. I think I may just have to stop watching the tracking number on it. It gives me a great deal of angst.

But what was in this month’s box?

Well first off this month the bag was replaced by a rose quarts Gua Sha Tool. It is nice and heavy and feels very nice in the hand. I’ve received a cheaper plastic version before, but as I didn’t care for the plastic I didn’t use it. This feels like something that I would actually use, so I am happy to try it out. There is no information on it in the pamphlet that came with the box so I’ll have to look into the proper way to actually use it, but I never really mind doing a bit of research.

The tool replaced the bag this month and I am okay with that. This means that the first of the five items this month was a black eyeliner from 3INA. I recently received a Brown Eyeliner from the brand in another subscription box and I love the pen style. It drew a fine line that dried quickly and didn’t smudge. I tend to wear more eyeliner in the cooler months than I do in the hot. And actually I found out that I have no working pen style liners at the moment so I will be happy to use this one.

The second item is the Perricone MD High Potency Growth Factor Firming and Lifting Serum. I’ve used many products from Perricone MD and actually just received a cleanser in my Boxy Charm. I can’t recall if I’ve use a serum from the brand before, but as I like the other categories of skincare and makeup they produce, I am willing to give it a go.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz brow pencil was the third item in the box. It is a standard dark brown eyebrow pencil. It has an angled edge which I really like and because it is a deluxe mini size it is perfect for a travel bag. I’ve used ABH brow pencils before and always find they work well for me. The trick though is to warm them up on your hand first as it is a bit of a stiff formula. Or it was. It has been a while since I’ve used the ABH pencils. At the moment I am really loving the Billion Dollar Brows Pomade in taupe. I do like traveling with pencils rather than pans though so the pencil is appreciated.

The Cosrx pimple master patch was also in this months box and quite honestly going into the holiday season , having spare pimple patches around is a pretty good idea. I generally go with either Zitsticka or Peace Out Acne Dots, but even though I try to restrict my calories the foods at this time of the year start to get richer and harvier and my skin often shows the dietary change. I’ve never heard of the brand Cosrx but if the pimple patches work I will happily include them with the others in my holiday survival kit.

The fifth item this month is actually a mascara from Tarte. Its the Lights Camera Lashes 4-in-1 travel Mascara. Oddly enough I have gone from having an over abundance of mascaras to down to a few tubes as I have worked though my secret mascara stash. So I am happy to have another one. I generally like Tarte mascaras. They usually preform well for me and are a great work day type of product.

This month there was a sixth item in the box and it was the Kiehl’s New Retinol Skin Renewing Micro Dose Serum.I am always happy to try out a new serum. Kiehl’s and I have an on and off relationship. Sometimes I really like the product. Sometimes I can’t stand the product. Very rarely do I feel middle of the road about it. With me Kiehl’s runs hot and cold, love or hate. It will be interesting to see where I land with this one. I will say though, the products I love, I really love. So I have my fingers crossed that this goes into my loves list.

In addition to the products included in the box, there were two perfume samples this month, as there usually are in each box. This month there was Daisy from Marc Jacobs and Defy from Calvin Klein. The Calvin Klein one is new but Daisy is a long time favorite. It is very much a spring scent for me. It is one that I will reach for when the green tips of the daffodils are struggling to push out of the cold ground and I really want spring to just arrive. So this sample I will put away to use for later. The Calvin Klein I will put in the line up to be tried out soon. Now that the weather isn’t so warm, I’ve started wearing scent again. For a while it was just too hot for me to want to wear perfume.

So that my darlings was the October Macy’s Beauty Box. While maybe not the most exciting box they’ve put together, I actually really liked it. There are a couple of favorites as well as several new things to try. It is a good mix for me actually. Who knows I might find something I really like. And isn’t that the point of trying samples?

Unboxing the Macy’s Beauty Box for September 2021

Usually this is one of the first subscriptions I unbox in the month.  This month, it took a really long time to get to me.  Like everything else, it seemed to enjoy hanging out in the Smyrna post office.  One day I may just drive over to Smyrna just to find out what the attraction is.  I’m sure it is fabulous but I only know it as a dot on the map and the place where my packages get tied up in the system.

Macys Beauty box is a $15 per month subscription.  They tend to lean towards more high end products most months and Quite frankly that is one of the reasons I really like them.  In the beauty box I have gotten several products that interested me but that I wasn’t willing to just pick up to try because of the price.  The strength of this subscription box is that you can try those pricy items before you commit to a full sized product.  I find it helps me save both money and waste less product.

The one thing you have to remember about this subscription is that it tends to charge on the 27th of the month.  So the charge for September’s box hit my bank account on August 27th. Since most subscriptions tend to charge on the first, it is something to note.

With the beauty box each month there are generally two perfume samples.  This month they are from Carolina Herrera One is Very Good Girl and the other is Bad Boy.  Now that the heat is lessening, I will be going back to my perfume reviews so I will put these in the line up to be worn for a week.  Even though one may be targeted at men, I generally find that many of the men’s scents I tend to like more than the women’s so it will make the line up.

This summer was just so hot and humid that I found myself avoiding reaching for the perfume.  I just didn’t want to wear it.  I think the most I did with my perfume collection this summer was dust the bottles.  As a result I have loads of perfume samples to try out.  Which should keep me busy until next summer actually. I even had to put my Scent Box subscription on pause until I went through more products. Which makes me a little sad as I really like them. I just need a chance to use more of the product up before I have more coming in. This was just not the summer of scent.

The first think I noticed when I opened my box this month was a card that said Oops, we had to make a substitution.  The substitution in question was with the sheet mask.  In the pamphlet that comes with the box, the sheet mask depicted is the Tony Moly I’m Hemp Calming Sheet Mask

The one I received is the Hydrating I’m Lavender sheet mask from Tony Moly.  I’ve actually used both before and enjoy both of them.  The substitution doesn’t actually bother me and I am happy to have the hydrating Lavender.

The second item is the Clarins Extra Firming Energy day cream.  I am actually really excited to try this out.  I really like having a separate day cream and a night cream in my skincare routine.  I generally find that the products I like at night are too heavy for the day and the ones I like in the day aren’t enough at night.  I know, it’s a simple equation.  So I generally end up with two moisturizers in my skincare line up.  And I am a big fan of Clarins products.

The next item in this month’s beauty bag is the Mineral Fusion Nail lacquer Sea salt Nail Polish.  And yes I did say sea salt nail polish.  Which is a new one on me.  It is a very light pink colored polish which isn’t my favorite color and one that a lot of subscription boxes send.  But I do find the nail polish interesting enough that I am looking forward to trying it.  As with perfumes, I don’t use a lot of nail polish in the summer time.  I just spend too much time in the garden for it to be worth the time. I generally tend to use nail strengtheners and cuticle oils throughout the summer and then paint my nails again in the fall.  I have never heard of this nail polish before and look forward to giving it a go.

The last two products in this month’s beauty bag are both lip products.  And we all know I love lip products.  Which is why I just had to do a major lip product declutter.  The first of the lip products is a Clinique Almost lipstick in Black honey

It swatched on my hand as a tinted gloss.  The second lip product is the bareMinerals Mineralist Gloss balm.  I love the color and I really like the bareMinerals Mineralist line.  I have lipsticks and lip glosses from them and really enjoy the products.  I am always happy to have lip products from bareMinerals.

Clinique swatch on top, bareMinerals swatch on bottom, neither are highly pigmented

Finally we have the bag that the beauty items came in.  It is a purple-y green iridescent makeup bag.  It is the clam shell style and the zipper opens most of the way down the bag so it can be opened really wide.  For a small bag, it is actually surprisingly large inside and the large zippered opening makes it convenient for putting larger products in.

It is actually the perfect size for an overnight makeup bag.  And personally I love the fact that it has a flat bottom and can stand upright on it’s own.  That makes it so much easier to work with when you are getting ready in a hotel bathroom.

I really liked this month’s selection of products.  All of them are items I will use ad the Clarins was a moisturizer I was studying to see if I wanted to give it a go so I am extra happy about receiving it. Over all it is a good selection of products.  I would probably have chosen to replace one of the lip products with something else instead of getting two lip products in the same bag, but as I like both of them and will use them it is just a minor observation and nothing that really has me concerned.   But then again, I do have a weakness for lip products. In general I have to say I am happy with my $15 subscription this month and definitely plan to keep the Macy’s beauty box around for a while.

Macy’s Beauty Box Subscription August 2021

It is time once again for the Macy’s Beauty bag. This is a $15 subscription that generally comes with five or more products and often comes with a makeup bag. Some months the bag is replaced by something else (a travel supplement’s holder, a mini flat iron), but there is often a bag.

This month there is a bag. It is a stiff mesh bag with the words Golden Hour on it. It is a cute little bag. Oddly it reminds me of the bags my grandmother always put into her luggage for clean underwear. Worn underwear had a solid bag so no one could see the items within but the ones were always folded into a bag that looked a lot like this. It had a pink sipper and a blue mesh to the bag, but it was pretty much the same thing. The bag is actually very well constructed and who knows, perhaps on my next trip I will use it for my clean undies.

But as always it is the products inside that actually count.

The first item out of my August Beauty Box was the Mario Badescu Cleansing Oil. Now I have heard of the brand and even tried a couple of their products. I think I have a facial spray in my ‘to be tried out’ items. But to be honest, I have never been really impressed with the things I’ve tried. They seem okay, but not really worth the major hype they seem to get. But once I have worked my way through my Peach Pudding Makeup remover, I will need another cleanser to take its place so perhaps this is the product that explains to me why so many people seem to rave about the brand.

The second item in my beauty box this month was the GlamGlow Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer. I have actually used this illuminating moisturizer before. It worked really well under a matte foundation to give it a little depth but it wasn’t very glowy. I remember liking the moisture level during the day but needing more at night. Mostly however I remember that is smelled like candy and every time I used it my babydoll thought I had some sort of hidden candy somewhere. I’d find him rummaging through my desk drawer looking for Smarties. I am happy to have another tube of this to use. I will also have to pick up some smarties to keep around while I am using it so that there are no disappointed faces thrown my way.

The Caudalie Vino Perfect Complexion Perfecting serum is one that I have used repeatedly and always enjoy seeing in a subscription box. This one is actually a fairly large sample. I have a couple of much smaller samples in my skin care drawer so I am not only happy to have this serum, but to have it in such a deluxe sample size.

The Coola Sunless tan I am a little less pleased about seeing. I like Coola Products in general. They make a very good sunscreen actually. And this year I have been trying out a few sunless tanning products, mostly on my legs so they match my arms, face and neck when I wear skirts. (I actually have a post about that coming soon.) But it seems strange to me to have a sunless tanning lotion in an August box. Also if you hold the Coola tube up to the light it is only about a third of the way full. Which means I might be able to get one leg, but not a second leg tanned with the amount of product in the tube. I might be able to blend out a bit of the farmer’s tan from my arms, but that is about it. So that was a bit disappointing.

There was a second makeup item in the bag this month and I have to say I was thrilled to see it. It is the Laura Geller Baked Highlighter. I have seen these before but never gotten around to trying them. According to the packaging it is designed to be all glow, no glitter. As the glitter is one thing I’m not a fan of in highlights, I am looking forward to giving this a bit of a test.

As with most of the Macy’s Beauty bags, this month there were two perfume samples. This month, they were both by Coach. One is Coach Blue and the other is Coach Dreams Sunset. Normally I wear perfume every day and so I tend to post a perfume review for any product I wear over a week. This summer has been so hot that for some reason I haven’t really felt like wearing perfume. So there have been several weeks with no scents decorating my wrists and neck. I am hoping the weather breaks soon so that I can get back to trying out and in general wearing perfumes more often. When I do, these will be in the line up to try out. Actually because Macy’s sends two samples more or less each month I have quite the line-up of products to try. Generally by the end of August, the heat will wane, or at least no longer feel obsessive enough that I avoid perfumes. Soon, my lovelies. Soon your scent will be released. Well some scent will be released. It might take me a while to work through all of them.

So that my darlings was this month’s Macy’s beauty bag. Over all, I was quite happy with my $15 bag. The sample sizes were decent sample sizes. The products are ones I am interested in trying. My only real complaint was with the mostly empty Coola and the sunless tan in August. Was it their most exciting bag? No. I’ve had months that were just fabulous with Macy’s. But it was all in all a pretty good bag. And as always, I am interested to see what they come up with next month because this is a subscription I am holding on to for a while.

Unboxing the Macy’s July 2021 Beauty Box

I can’t lie, over the past year Macy’s beauty boxes has become one of my favorite subscription boxes. It costs $15 per month ($16,78 with tax) and it generally contains at least five products. Often it contains more and usually the products are from luxury brands.

While they don’t always have a bag with the subscription (sometimes replacing the bag with something like a mini flat iron for example) this moth there was a beauty bag included. It is a plastic bag with tropical looking leaves on it that seems to go well with the theme of Fun in the Sun. The bag is a good size and looks well made. Because it is plastic inside and out it is the sort of bag I tend to put bath products in when I travel (shampoo, body wash) as those items seem to leak more often than many other products I travel with and the plastic is easy to rinse out.

But as with every subscription, the bag may be nice, but it is what is inside that counts. The first item out of the bag this month is the Coola Sunscreen in SPF 30. It is actually the Coola Sun silk drops. In addition to the sunscreen, the serum is infused with hyaluronic acid (one of the skincare darlings of the moment). I’ve generally had pretty good luck with Coola products. They protect the skin well and don’t cause me to break out. And you know I love hyaluronic acid, so this is definitely a product i want to try.

The second Item in the bag this month is the Clinique Moisture Surge Auto Replenishing hydrator. It has been a really long time since I have tried a Clinique moisturizer. I remember trying one a number of years ago and found it was far too moisturizing for me. At the moment I am sort of in my oily phase. It give this moisturizer it’s best chance of working, I might hold on to it until the weather changes and my skin starts craving moisture. It has been a really long time since I gave Clinique a try and I am happy to have a sample to try now. I suspect I will like it’s moisture providing formula once winter arrives.

I will have a harder time setting the Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion to the side. I have used several Shiseido products before and they have always performed fantastically for me. It is a brand that I have never been disappointed to try. with the Coola in this month’s Macy’s Beauty Box and the Supergoop in Birchbox, I now have several different sunscreens to try out so I may just start rotating them into the line up to see how they perform. It will give my Volition Prismatic Sunscreen a bit of a rest (and me a break before I have to reorder it again). I actually can’t wait to try this sunscreen out.

There is something for the hair this month as well. It is the Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Smoothing Anti Frizz Blow out butter. Alterna is a brand I have used before and tend to like how they perform. Their Caviar line has proven nice for my hair as well, especially in the shampoo and conditioner. Actually if I remember correctly the shampoo was nice but the conditioner was fantastic. It has been a while though so I’d have to try them again to be certain. I do remember I liked one a lot more than the other thought. I am happy to get to try something else out of the Caviar anti-aging line though. Like the Clinique though, it may have to wait for the end of the summer.

In the summertime I tend not to use my hair dryer all that much. What I tend to do is to let it mostly dry and then spray the Color Wow Dream Coat on it and use my hot brush to activate the pretectorant serum. The Dream Coat works fantastically well in protecting against the humidity frizz. I just generally find it too hot to use my hair dryer in the summer. By the time my hair is dry I am sweating. So this blow out bitter will be set aside until the fall when I once again start using my hair dryer. I am happy to have a chance to try it though.

I am super excited to report that there are two lip products in this month’s bag. The first is from Grande Cosmetics. I really like their liquid formula actually and have several glosses from the, This one is a light pink Hydrating Lip Plumper. While I have used their lip glosses I haven’t used their lip plumpers and am looking forward to giving it a try.

The second lip product is from Yves Saint Laurent. It is a tiny little stick lipstick. It is a long wearing lipstick infused with hyaluronic acid. It is in a beautiful red shade and if the shade is actually on the bottom I will have to get a magnifying glass out to read it. But I adore red lipstick and have been on a more or less permanent quest to find the right shade of red. I feel like Goldilocks sometimes actually. This is a little too pink,. this one is a little too orange. It is a process that involves a lot of trial. I have found a liquid lipstick in the red I want (it is an Elf Liquid lip actually in Red Vixen) but I am still holding out for the perfect red in a traditional bullet style lipstick. Because some days you don’t want a liquid lip. I have my fingers crossed for this one.

Finally there is a perfume sample. Each month macy’s Beauty box includes at least one perfume Sample. This month it is Versace Dylan Turquoise. I will add it to my collection to try out. For the past few weeks I haven’t been wearing any perfume as I have just been sweating so much it seemed pointless. As I am switching more to gym workouts than walks in the sun, I will be going back to my once a week perfume sample trials. This one will definately be placed in the line up. I actually hope I like it because the full sized bottle just looks absolutely beautiful. I won’t add it to my collection unless I like the perfume, but I really do like the bottle.

For now, that was my July 2021 Macy’s Beauty Box. I have to say I am very excited about several of the products. For me this was a good month. I love the fact that there was both skin and hair care with a little bit of makeup. It was a nice mix. Admittedly anytime a red lipstick appears i am excited so it was pretty easy for me to like this month. But there are several products I am very much looking forward to trying out. A couple I will have to put to the side as for my skin and hair, this isn’t the right season for their use. But it gives me something to look forward to when the heat turns. Other than the heat actually turning of course. Over all I am once again impressed by my Macy’s Beauty Box.
