The Daily: October 14th, 2020

Today the sun was shining and over night the scavengers had time to clear out the unfortunate creekbed remains and the midge swarms are once again hiding in the shadows. So I was able to take my walk with out feeling like i was walking through a fishmongers after an extended power outage.

Deep breaths my darlings!

Inhale the actual air from the world outside.

And revel in the fact that the ragweed was smacked by the cold snap last night and making the eyes as happy as the lungs. That’s right, no itchy watery eyes for me today!

I see clearly, I breathe deeply and I crunched my way over the dried mud scales that currently coat the walking trail. While not the best of surfaces, the dried mud is not slick so no skidding down the hill for me today either.

It was quite pleasant, in fact it was so pleasant after I post this, I may go on a second afternoon stroll. more calories burned and more pressure put on the new deodorant i am trying out. If you recall from yesterday’s post, on a whim I picked up a new natural deodorant to try out. It is the Cucumber and Mint from Native.

After my first walk this morning I came in with still non-stinky armpits. However my skirt’s armpits were very very wet. I know it is a deodorant and not an antiperspirant but I was not expecting such damp cloth. I was wearing a black shirt so there were no noticeable pit stains. But the feel of the wet cloth was not my favorite.

I don’t mind sweating on my walk. Half the time everyone I pass is just as sweaty and messy as I am so that doesn’t bother me. The issue might be what happens when I test it out in a shirt sitting at my desk. I may have a lot of black clothing but not everything is dark and some clothes would definitely show stains. I think once I’ve determined that it doesn’t make me stinky when I’m working out, I will see about the non-work out results. There also may be an adjustment period as I just changed deodorants this past week.

But phase one, the not stinky in public phases is going well so far. If it remains so, I will move into Phase 2 testing. but for now I don’t stink. Having said that, I think i am going to take advantage of the very nice day outside and go for a walk. I may regret it when I have to play catch up tomorrow but my meetings are done for the day and quite frankly the sunshine and cooler temps are calling me to play. Resistance is futile.

The Daily: October 12, 2020

I know it is super early for the daily post but it is a strange day. Today is a holiday for my babydoll and it is pouring down buckets of rain. So all of the things he planned to do have gone by the wayside and he has asked if I wanted to play hooky and join him in a movie marathon.

And yes, yes I do.

Plus he made the puppy dog eyes which I can’t resist.

This morning I spent some time with the Wii Fit since I knew that even if the rain stopped the park would be flooded and thwart any attempt at using the walking trail. I am also monitoring my calories to make certain I don’t go over the non-walking day calorie count. It is kind of the best I can hope for fitness wise today.

So I will very shortly be turning off my computer for the day and taking advantage of the holiday. Partially, because I want to spend time with my baby and partially because he has already been in my office every twenty minutes with a new comment or question because he just doesn’t know what to do with himself. So the odds of me getting any work done this afternoon even if I decline the movie marathon are slim to none.

Sometimes it is just best to lean into the distractions and accept it.

And I don’t mind spending time with my baby.

I just need to resist the snacking. As long as there is no snacking, I shall be fine. Since I am preparing a big lunch salad which always fills me up just before we start our movie marathon, I should be okay. Plus there are almost no snacks in the house. I made certain not to pick them up last time we went shopping so they wouldn’t be here when the inclination to snack struck. And I know for a fact that yesterday my babydoll polished off his bag of emergency doritos. which he would only do if there was nothing left. I think my current snack foods include a small container of grapes (all that’s left of the bunch) and a kiwi fruit. So I should be well able to stay within my calories.

Its sort of like planning.

Oh and for those looking into more at home fitness, Prosource fit has restocked their Kettlebells. For a long time they were having trouble keeping them stocked because everyone was trying to build their own home gym (and they are affordably priced and high quality). But they have finally restocked and have all the sizes you could possibly desire in store. I mostly mention this because I have been planning on picking up some of their kettlebells for my own use and have thus far been thwarted by out of stock items. So they are now instock for those who, like me may have been previously thwarted.

And on that note, I am off, first to make a large lunch salad and then to indulge in a movie marathon with my baby. It feels quite decadent for a rainy Monday afternoon. But I am okay with the occasional decadence. For once I am not only caught up on my work, but actually ahead of schedule. And so I am off to enjoy. I’ll be back in the morning.

The Daily: October 6th, 2020

I know my daily afternoon post is coming a little early today.  That is because over the weekend my pumpkin plans were derailed.  On Saturday, my baby and I drove past the Pumpkin Patch.

(And yes that is capitalized because the place near me is actually called The Pumpkin Patch.  There is also Pumpkin Hollow, and The Great Pumpkin Cart located relatively close for all of your pumpkin buying needs. Well, close if you live near me.  I will also say that The Pumpkin Cart which is a wagon placed in front of a field, has begun loading in Christmas trees into the field, which I think is way too early, but that is a whole other issue.)

The plan over the weekend was to pick up pumpkins, carve said pumpkins, place them on the front stairs and enjoy them all month long or until the rot and decay that inevitably follows destroyed them, turning them more into a biological hazard than a decoration.

But The Pumpkin Patch itself looked like a biological hazard.  Apparently everyone had the first weekend in October pumpkin buying urge and descended. They brought their kids, and pets, sometimes even their grandparents. Social distance protocols were forgotten and a large percentage of them however forgot their masks or took them off to ensure the perfect selfie. So we decided that we could wait for our pumpkins.

I’m also certain that if any crime went down in or around the area, the police could probably get a pretty good picture of it happening as there were enough selfies and family pics being taken that they could probably get a kind of stop motion animation view of anything that went down.  On the other hand nefarious deeds elsewhere would have gone undocumented.

Not that I was committing any nefarious deeds.

Honest.

Well at least not any that anyone could prove.

So we decided to wait to pick up a couple of pumpkins. Today, attempt number two will be made to secure a pumpkin. (Plus, we are going to the Asian grocery store –which is actually located in a nearby town instead of in our town and an hour and a half drive away – to stock up on some ingredients that the regular grocery store doesn’t carry.)

So I will be away from my computer the rest of the afternoon (3 hrs of it in a car and singing along with the radio).  Exercise-wise, I got my walk in early, may take a walk around a pumpkin field and if this afternoon is successful may spend the evening wielding a knife in the attempt to create a jack ‘o lantern. I’m not sure how many calories the pumpkin stabbing actually burns though so I probab;y won’t count that as exercise.

There will also be roasted pumpkin seeds.  Because if I am carving a pumpkin, I am roasting the seeds. I love dusting them in a kind of spicy curry powder mix, roasting them until they are crisp and eating them while they are still warm.  I’ll still eat them when they’ve cooled off, but there is something about the still warm roasted pumpkin seeds I just adore. Yum. I suspect it will throw my salt level a bit higher than normal, but as it is a once a year treat that is otherwise healthy, I can live with a little extra salt for the day.

So masks at the ready, Asian grocery store list in hand and off we go to secure our Halloween décor and to replenish the non neighborhood grocery store themed section of the pantry.  Wish me luck.

The Daily: September 16th, 2020

Today I found another benefit of wearing masks in public. You know beyond not spreading disease. I had a conversation with a man who generally spits when he talks. Today we were both masked and the conversation was a lot more pleasant.

Other than that it has been a pretty quiet day. I went on my walks and for some reason had a cinnamon toast crunch craving at lunch time so I had a bowl of cereal for lunch. I’m not entirely sure how the Cinnamon Toast Crunch got into the pantry. I think when my babydoll stopped at the grocery by himself and I said, could you pick up cereal, he found a two for one special or something. Because my usual honey nut cheerios are in the pantry, this was just next to them.

And there are several bags of gummie bears which is his go to snack candy.

It was sort of a clue.

And why I usually don’t sent him to the grocery on his own.

I have to say, the cereal was a bad idea for lunch. I haven’t had this much sugar in a while. I was productive right after lunch and then I got jittery and then I wanted a nap. I’ve cut out a lot of sugar from my diet in the past year and with the exception of my ice cream birthday cake I’ve been doing pretty good on keeping it out.

Not today.

Today has just been wild. I don’t remember sugar affecting me this much before. Sweets were never my downfall before I went on my diet. It was the savory that always drew me in so I didn’t really think that much of it as I started cutting out the excess sugar from the few things I ate. But Wow. Sugar rush. Sugar crash and a bit of sugar nausea.

Its almost like instant Karma.

Admittedly that is not a well loved breakfast cereal. “Instant Karma Cereal – go for the pretty and feel the pain.” Or maybe that is Masochist-ios. I always get those two confused.

Beyond that I did have something I forgot to add to my Glossy Box Skincare Eye Boost Post. There are now Skincare Bundles available. With your exclusive Subscriber discount bundles start from just $27, with savings of up 68%. You can also use your Glossie credit on the bundles as well. You get the credit for reviewing the items in the box and then get to apply it to purchases like the skincare. The bundling lets you choose your own skin care concerns too which is kind of neat. Anyway I forgot to add that to the Eye Boost Post so there you have it.

Now I’m going to temper this sugar crash with a mug of Builders and make a giant spinach salad for dinner. At the moment I am well within my calories but I can’t say I feel especially good about my food choices today.

I am very glad I discovered a more pleasant way to have a conversation with a person who spits when he talks though, so there is that. Happy Wednesday.

Have you ever had one of those meetings where you said all you needed to say in the first five minutes and then sat there as everyone else went over the same information repeatedly, arguing the same points with slightly different wording until you begin to wonder if they are even remotely listening to what they are saying let alone what anyone else is talking about?

That was where I spent the bulk of my day.

At the end of those sorts of meetings I always feel like I have stockpiled time off in pergatory so if I ever do anything that is condemnation worthy Saint peter will shave off a little time calling it Time Served.

At least that is the only point I can think of for sitting through such meetings.

And I didn’t shoot rubber bands at anyone.

Mostly because I didn’t have any and I was pretending to be a real adult instead of a faux one.

I might have been less of an adult if I did have rubber bands. Especially after the third repetition of the phrase, “What I’m really trying to say here is…”

And my adult like behavior was rewarded. I was invited back in the spring for round two of the same project. It will feel like a better thing once my brain is not mush.

Luckily i got my walk in earlier so I feel like I actually managed to accomplish something today. And luckily no one looked at my notes. Midway through the meeting I had a story idea involving a murder and noted down some police procedures I needed to look up. Since at that point my involvement was done until the spring, I was just waiting until i could escape so the notes helped me looked interested. And at least it was a strangulation murder so I wasn’t noting down poisons.

Such is life. So we are having a baked potato dinner tonight (mostly because we have potatoes we need to use up and as long as I lean more towards chives than either bacon bits or sour cream, I should be able to stay well within my calories today. So there is a bonus. I got a walk in, didn’t bust my calories and behaved like an adult in public. I also have an extended contract for the Spring and I made a note never to bring rubber bands to any meetings I attend for this company.

Its best to leave temptation outside.
