The Skincare Line up: March 18th, 2022

It is time once again to line up all of the skin care products currently in motion and take a look at how they are performing. Are there any problem children? Are their any gold star teacher’s pets? Let’s find out shall we?

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: The Nue Co’s The Pill

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Okay this week I finally got back to splitting out the day time from the night time as there were enough differences to matter. I did finish up my toner last week and I forgot completely to roll in a new one this week. I am thinking of rolling in the Somme Institute exfoliating pads to fill the gap but i want to see just how exfoliating they are before I commite to daily use. I will probably still roll in a toner and just use them either in the day or night.

To be honest the morning routine worked really well for me. The time Revolution cleanser from Missha is just fantastic. The scent is light and fresh and herbal and a fabulous first thing in the morning wake up kind of scent. It also takes off any makeup residue left from the makeup remover in the evening. This is a cleanser I will most certainly pick up again.

The 111skin essence is also nice. While it is a clean scent it is more of a high end spa clean than a fresh scent. It works oddly well with the Missha cleanser. It makes my morning routine feel like a high end spa that focuses on natural ingredients.

And then comes the serum. It has a different scent all together. I actually can’t identify the scent. It is a scent that tickles your nose and then before you can figure out what it is, the scent is gone. It is slightly astringent and almost fruity. I’m going to have to spend some time with the ingredients list to figure it out. But as I said the scent is mild and gone almost as soon as the serum hits the air. I haven’t been using the Nue Co serum long enough to show any results, but I do like the way it absorbs. It is slightly sticky , but as i put my moisturizer over it, that isn’t much of a concern. I also am loving the shape of the bottle. It is the tall thin pump in the pictures, if you are wondering. The pump is nice, wide and flat so easy to work with even if your hands are damp and the tall thin bottle is easy to grip. I know packaging isn’t the main concern, but someone really thought about this bottle. And I for one appreciate it. Hopefully as my product use continues i will find the product as useful.

the Embryolisse Lait-Concentre is a fantastic moisturizer. The scent is lightly aloe mixed with shea butters and my skin feels soft and hydrated. It is a very straight forward no nonsense moisturizer and honestly i am enjoying it a lot. My one concern is that while it is fabulous for me at the moment, as the weather warms this may be a bit too hydrating for me. It is something I will have to monitor. It is the most moisturizing of the three moisturizers from the Lait Creme line and if we do end up with a weather vs. hydration issue I will simply bring in one of the others as a day cream and continue to use this at night. It is the type of cream I can use as a night cream all year round so that isn’t a concern, it is just the day time use I will have to monitor.

And finally we come to the MZ Skin Soothe and Smooth Eye cream. It is a lightly floral scented cream, the florals fading away almost a soon as you apply it. It is a thicker eye cream which had me worried at first as I feared clogged pores. My under eye area is quite susceptible to them. But this far it has not been a problem. This eye cream absorbs well and I am seeing improvement in my fine lines. Thus far I am really a big fan. This is the first time I have tried anythign from the brand and thus far it has made a very good impression.

The Nighttime Line Up

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha (20% off with code FEB20)

Makeup Remover: Vike Makeup Melt Paired with a Makeup Eraser

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: The Nue Co Topical C

Facial Oil: Byroe Fig Renewal oil

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

As the products used in the day time worked just as well at night i won’t bore you with a repetition. There is only one new item in the evening so we’ll leave it for last. The Laneige has been in the line up the longest and will be here for a while to come. I’ve made a dent in the product but there is still a lot left and I have no problems continuing with it’s use. I put on a thick layer before bed and it has absorbed in the night leaving my lips soft and fabulous. I have had very little issue with chapped lips this winter.

The Byroe Fig Renewal oil I have been putting around the fine lines of my lips. It appears to be helping. The change isn’t dramatic, but I think the little extra boost of hydration from the oil is really a benefit. This is the first time I’ve used a facial oil specifically for the fine lines around my mouth and I like it. I just don’t have anything to really compare the Byroe to at this time. It is a dry oil and so it absorbs easily without leaving a greasy residue. I am halfway through this bottle of oil and I am thinking about swapping it out with one of my other oil samples just so I can do more of a comparison. I think it might help me get a better feel for comparing the Byroe to another oil if i try another oil. Sometimes there is great danger in going first. I will say I love the scent. it has the scent of figs which I really enjoy.

I am not so much enjoying the scent of the Vike Makeup melt. It works well and I love the way it sprays on and, well, melts makeup. But when I spray it I have to hold my breath and then step out of the bathroom to take a deep breath. It smells like vaporized mothballs or like something my grandmother would have in the back of the medicine cabinet as a topical cure all. it works well, but I am thinking of opening up a cleansing balm just to give myself a break from the scent. then I will reach for this when I need something fast. It won’t go to waste, i will definitely use it. It’s a great product. I just need a break from the scent.

And finally we come to the Nue product in the line up. I chose this one because I am using The Pill in my day time line up and I thought, huh, don’t I have something else from The Nue Co? Turns out I have several items actually. So I figured I would add this to the line up. The topical c is a powdered vitamin c supplement that you mix in with your moisturizer. And this Embryolisse may be the perfect moisturizer to do this with. It is thick enough that it just pulls the powder in with no problem and quite honestly i am loving the combo. It hasn’t been long enough to see any results, but those two work really well together and as the moisturizer takes its time absorbing I really think I am getting all the benefits. We’ll see how it goes but thus far, these two are fantastic friends and my skin is loving it.

This was a great skincare week for me. Things were a bit rocky a while back and I had to cut down and build up my routines again, but i think now everything is well in hand. There will be a few minor tweaks next week but for the most part it is full steam ahead and steady as she goes as far as my skincare is concerned.

Lait-Crème Concentré

The Skincare Line Up: March 11th, 2022

It is time now for my favorite post of the week…SKINCARE! I know, I get obnoxious with it, but I just love talking about skincare. And I try to confine as much of it as I can so that i don’t drive the people around me bonkers. Admittedly my babydoll calls my love of skincare a latent mad scientist gene, but there are worse things I suppose. Growing up though the only makeup or skin care he ever saw was at his grandmother’s. His mother’s space was strictly off limits to him and his brothers. So he refers to al skin care products as Cold Cream. But that is another story.

I planned to start seperating my skin care into day time and night time use but that didn’t quite happen. I had a little left of my Grace and Stella serum so I shifted it to night time use and brought in a serum sample to use in the day time figuring I would allow my skin to get used to the new serum in the day before rolling in a new one at night. There wasn’t all that much serum in the sample so it ran out pretty much the same fay the Grace and Stella ran out and so I picked out the Nue Co’s The Pill All in One serum to replace it. I’ll get into details below, but that is why there are three serums listed and why I went with One list instead of breaking it down for the day and night this week. So….

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha (20% off with code FEB20)

Makeup Remover: Vike Makeup Melt Paired with a Makeup Eraser

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Toner: Buttah AHA/BHA Rosewater toner

Serum: Grace and Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Codex Antu Brightening serum and The Nue Co’s The Pill

Facial Oil: Byroe Fig Renewal oil

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

Okay starting with the cleanser, it is fabulous. My plan last week was to try out the masking function of this cleanser, but thee were technical difficulties (with the site not the cleanser). I will be trying it out this afternoon to see how it performs as a mask. As a cleanser though it is top rate.I am really enjoying it. I think my skin just really reacts well to Artemisia (mugwort) which I found out using the essence this summer but it turns out it works well for me as a cleanser. the weather yo-yoed this week and I was stuffy, The cleanser actually soothed my skin and my eyes were not as puffy as usual. (I also extended my cleansing time so I might technically have partially used it as a mask in my cleansing routine because letting the cleanser sit on my skin really helped with the allergy depuff., But I will officially try it as a mask later today.

The Vike is good as a makeup remover. I just need to hold my breath when I spray so I don’t inhale, don’t lick my lips until after I’ve washed my face and remember not to overdo the spray. And the longer it sits on the skin the more it does take off. I think I still prefer cleansing balms, but for a quick and easy application this is a good product.

The buttah toner is almost completely empty. I will use what is left either tonight or tomorrow morning and the container will be empty. It is a nice product, but it isn’t noticeably fabulous. I would use it again if it happened to show up at my house via subscription box, but i wouldn’t go out and purchase it on my own. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, it simply isn’t a stand out.

The MZ sooth and Smooth is stating to show some improvement in my fine lines. It is still early days yet. It has been less than a month which is generally the minimum a product takes to show effectiveness. It is a god sized jar for an eye cream so it will last more than a month, which is god because it is a rather expensive eye cream. I’d hate for something that pricy to show no results and run out in a month. But I think I am starting to see results and it will last longer than a month so we are at so far so good.

I like putting the Byroe oil on the fine lines around my mouth. I think it is helping the fine lines, but I know it is also helping with some of the chapping around my mouth as well. i know it is sily, but I tend to remember to put on lip masks, but i tend to apply them Like I apply lipstick and follow the contuurs of my lips. So my lips will get some hydrating love but the edges of my lips will still get dry and sore. I know I should just apply my lip mask in a wider area but when I do, I ten find myself wiping off the excess with my finger. So the oil helps. So does the Laneige, which I love.

The serums are actually a quick run down despite there being three of them. The Grace and Stella finished out and I miss it already. It is a great fast absorbing Hyaluronic Acid based serum and my skin loved it. It is on the to buy list for certain. The Codex serum seemed nice but there really wasn’t enough product in the container for me to say anything other than, this didn’t irritate my skin and the scent was vaguely lemony in a non industrial cleaner kind of way. It was actually a nice light fresh lemon scent. I didn’t really get much of a feel for the product but I wouldn’t mind trying it out in a larger size at some point.

As for the Nue. It is a light weight cream that has no real scent to it. I like the dark bottle and the pump. It takes a minute to absorb into the skin, and it is slightly sticky to the touch. beyond that I haven’t used it enough yet to really determine how I feel about it.

And then we come to the moisturizer. This Lait-Creme Concentre was sent to me by the brand for the purpose of review. I posted a first use post on Monday and I will use this for the next thirty days. Embryolisse sent two other moisturizers from the line so I will be testing them out and comparing them to this once i am finished. The link in this paragraph will take you to my first use post. Thus far I am liking the moisturizer. I think this is the most moisturizing of the line, which is why I am using it now when my skin is still winter dry. I have found I need about half of the product in the morning that I do at night. I suspect that when the weather warms up, this might end up being more of a night cream than a day one for my skin type. However right now that level of moisture is perfect for me.

This is the type of cream that needs to warm up before it absorbs. I put it in my hand, rub my hands together and then put it on my face. With that I avoid the temporary white cast and it absorbs faster. What i have found is that it does need a minute to settle in. when I first applied it, my skin looked a little shiny and greasy. Then I went, put on the coffee pot and walked back to my bathroom and the shiny/greasiness had gone and my skin absorbed the moisturizer. the same thing happened at night, minus the coffee. It just takes a minute to settle in and all is well. I am also finding that I like the scent more as I use it. This is a face cream scented face cream. The scent is very nostalgic for me as my mom and grandmother both used this moisturizer when I was little. So the scent is, for me, the scent of face cream. I kinda dig it actually.

And with that we set off into another week of skincare. As the Nue Co settles in I’ll see about splitting the night from the day, once I decide if the Nue Co is a day or night time product. If it is then I have a couple of vitamin c serums I might use for the night time. They tend to make me a little sun sensitive so i like using them at night. of course at the moment it is storming enough to make me think Ark building might be something I should look into so the sun is less of a worry than usual. Still, it never hurts to be careful.

And that is the weekly line up. I’ll be back this afternoon with my Friday Face mask. Until then, I hope you have a fabulous Friday.

Lait-Crème Concentré

The Skincare Line Up: February 25th, 2022

Okay deep breath in, deep breath out. Last week’s skincare line up was an exercise in panic. The moisturizer went down and it took everything down with it. While I rotated several new products in the one I focused on was the one causing problems. You’ve heard the phrase the squeaky wheel gets the grease? Well in this case the squeaky wheel caused the grease. But my skin has calmed down and resumed it’s normal every day moisturized level. Still while there was less of a freak out I only changed out the moisturizer and kept every thing steady so there is only one list and no break out between day and night this week. Next week there will be an expansion, but I wanted some smooth sailing first. Items like the makeup remover and overnight lip mask were used pretty much only in the evenings, but I still figured I’d stick with one list this week. So let’s get a look at the line up.

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha (20% off with code FEB20)

Makeup Remover: Vike Makeup Melt Paired with a Makeup Eraser

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Toner: Buttah AHA/BHA Rosewater toner

Serum: Grace and Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Facial Oil: Byroe Fig Renewal oil

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Hey Honey Relax Propolis and Honey Soothing Moisturizer

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

Okay now that one product isn’t taking over, let’s take a look at what we have. First up is the Missha cleanser. It still feels a little strange to use something that looks like a green clay mask as a cleanser, but I can’t argue with the results. My skin is clean, and soothed by the cleanser. I learned this past summer that Artemisia calms my skin down really well after too much sun. Apparently it works well after a score of breakouts as well. I am loving this cleanser.

The link above will take you to the full Vike Product review. It is a good makeup remover although it took some getting used to the spray. it is a fine mist of a spray, it is just the act of spraying makeup remover into my face. I think it might be the word Melt in the name. It makes me think of the scene in Indiana Jones and the lost ark where the black hat bad guys face melts off. All that happened is it took of my makeup, but still. It did need a little help from my makeup eraser especially with the mascara, but it does a good job removing makeup.

Which left my toner pads relatively clean. I am currently using the Buttah rosewater toner. The big relief is that it doesn’t smell of in your face rose. I haven’t used it long enough to see any skincare benefits, but it seems to be an okay toner thus far. It doesn’t leave a sticky residue and it appears to take off the last dregs of makeup. we’ll see how it performs moving forward, but thus far i have no complaints.

The 111Skin Essence I love and have been loving for a while now. I will continue using it until it is either empty or another essence pops up that I need to try out. Right now I like it and am very happy using it. It does make my entire line up feel fancier just by the high end spa scent too, which isn’t a bad thing.

I am beginning to think the Grace and Stella bottle is magic. It is a small bottle but it is emptying so slowly that it almost as though fairies come and renew it in the night. Only three drops are needed and you all know I love hyaluronic acid in my skincare. This is a fantastic serum and I will use every last drop in this bottle.

The Byroe Fig essence I am using on the fine lines around my mouth. One drop is enough so it will be around a while. It smells of figs and is a dry oil so it absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel greasy. I think it is actually doing some nice things for the lines around my mouth, namely making sure there are fewer of them. I also tried this oil on my cuticles this week. The oild hydrates the cuticele beds well and leaves less of a greasy residue then most cuticle oils. For nw though I am going to keep it for my face.

The MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream feels really lovely on the skin. It is a thick cream and very little is used with each application. It is too soon to tell if it is helping the lines, but I am watching. I am also monitoring the clogged pores that sometimes follow in the wake of thick eye creams. There are a few but at the moment I am not sure if they are a moisturizer debacle hold over or the fauly of the eye cream. I will monitor them to find out.

To replace my moisturizer this week I went with the Hey Honey Relax moisturizer. It is soothing and I have never had a problem with Hey Honey. Some of their products I might have decided weren’t for me, but they never caused me issue. This is a sample size of the moisturizer and I am already wishing it was full sized. My skin feels soft and nourished without any heavy greasiness and the moisturizer smells like honey. Not in a heavy cloying way, but in a sweet and bright way. I am really enjoying this sample. I do have several samples of different Hey Honey Moisturizers and I may roll the next one in just to test it. I suspect I will purchase one of them in the near future i just want to see which one I actually prefer. I will say this Relax will be hard to beat. it is really nice and soothing as well as hydrating.

And finally the Laneige just keeps chugging along. It is a fantastic sleeping mask and I am happy to continue using it to give my lips overnight moisturizing.

And that is the list of products currently working in my skincare line up. it was a pretty good line up this week. The two stars belong to the Missha Cleanser and the Hey Honey Moisturizer, but there really weren’t any problem children this week, which is a very nice thing to say. I really needed a week of everything working as it should. And I do have to say a big thanks to the Herbal Dynamics Cacao and Chamomile Clearing mask I used after my skin freak out. It was one of the products that really helped set my skin back to clear.

The Skincare Lineup: February 18th, 2022

This week is going to be a little different. You’ll notice that for one thing, there is only one picture. There is no day time and night time line. This week my line up slimmed down. Part of that was I finished some products and started rolling new ones in. I added them slowly and then the moisturizer I added didn’t work for my skin. So a lot of the products I pared down even more as I tried to clear things up. But let’s list the products first.

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha (20% off with code FEB20)

Toner: buttah AHA/BHA Rosewater Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Grace and Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Facial Oil: Byroe Fig Renewal Oil

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Soothe and Smooth

Moisturizer: Clinique Moisture Surge 100H auto replenish Moisturizer

Exfoliator: Elemis Skin Buff

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Okay I’ll be honest, I may have a lot of products on the list for this week but once the moisturizer started going crazy I pretty much jettisoned everything except the cleanser, the exfoliator and the lip mask from my routine until things calmed down. The only thing I really recall about the new toner that I rolled in was that even though it is a rosewater toner it is not heavily rose scented.

The Time Revolution cleanser was fantastic. It dried without stripping and I will hopefully get a more thorough opinion of it as I move forward. The Elemis Skin Buff was gentle on the skin but helped treat the blemishes that rose to the surface. And the Laneige lip mask was as always fabulous.

Todays line up is really about the Clinique moisturizer. If you have really dry skin and no matter what moisturizer you use you never feel like it is enough, then this is the product for you. It is a moisturize bomb.

even at my driest, my skin is not dry enough to use this moisturizer. The first day of use, it was fine. The second day I noticed that it was taking a lot longer to absorb. The third day I cut the amount I was using down by half and it still took a long time to absorb. And then the next morning I awoke with breakouts like I haven’t seen on my face since high school.

And then i spent the rest of the week dealing with the break outs.

When it says moisture surge, it means exactly that. If your skin is not sand paper dry, this is probably not the moisturizer for you. It is certainly not the moisturizer for me. It disrupted my entire routine and as a result, I didn’t even use the other products in the line up once the moisture surge hit and caused a tsunami of break outs. things are getting back under control, but this week’s line up is really about Clinique.

Although it probably doesn’t need to be said, just for the record, I will not be purchasing a full size of this moisturizer. I will also be repurchasing the Elemis Skin Buff. It was an all star this week in helping to clear things away. The Time Revolution Pack Foam Cleanser was a huge help as well, but elemis was definitely the MVP.

800x600

The Skincare Line Up: January 21st, 2022

This week I started to diversify between day time use and night time use a little bit more. Mostly in the form of my cleansers. This coming week I’ll roll in a night time serum as well as a new day time moisturizer sample to try out since the one i am using in the day has only a little bit left. But we’ll get to that in a moment. First, let’s see what the day time line up had in store for this past week.

The Daytime Line Up

YCleanser: Malin +Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser

Toner: Glow Recipe Watermelon Pore Tight Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Serumkind Purple Cabbage Drops

Eye Cream: Glam Glow Bright Eyes

Moisturizer: Comfort Zone Hydramemory Cream Gel

Okay this week was a bit of a rollercoaster. We’ll start with a high. This week i decided to use the Malin+ Goetz grapefruit cleanser in the morning. This used to be one of my go to cleansers and then as I started testing out new products I started to get away from it. I had a bottle in my back up drawer that i knew I needed to work through so I took it out. I forgot haw absolutely fabulous it is. It is a light fresh grapefruit scent which is the perfect skincare wake up call. I know it removes makeup well also so I have no problem using it at night, but the morning scent is really where it shines. It is gentle on the skin and always leaves me feeling fresh and clean. I love when you return to old favorites and fall in love all over again, and with me this week, that is what happened with the cleanser.

I felt a dark delight with the toner this week. As you may recall I am working through this Glow Recipe toner because I don’t want to waste product. It works well, but i hate the scent. It smells like watermelon extract was mixed with stale water. Because it does work well I continued using it. This week, I finished it up completely and it is now leaving my skincare routine. it is going away and it will never return. I like many other Glow recipe products, this just isn’t one of them.

The 111Skin Essence worked well as always and smells like a high end spa. It is actually a joy to use, especially since I have taken it out of my skincare line up, just to see if it was working as it was supposed to. Essences are designed to make the other skincare you use more effective. This works well and smells fabulous while doing it. As the level drops though more product comes out with every shake so be aware and either tip it slowly so the weight of the product doesn’t force more product than you want out or just use less shakes to dispense.

This week the Serumkind gave me fits. I am still not convinced it is actually doing much for my skin. This is the third week of use so I will continue using it and see if week four hits a tipping point. The issue this week is that the serum is so thick that the dropper has a hard time picking it up. It was an effort to get it out of the bottle and the effort was a bit annoying since I don’t know if the drops actually do anything. They smell nice and there is something appealing in a mad scientist sort of way to see a bottle of purple-y serum on the skincare shelf, but I’m just not sure it is worth the time and trouble. I will continue, but thus far, I am not a fan.

with my eye cream this week I received a sad news. I may love the Glam Glow Bright eyes, but it seems that Glam Glow itself does not agree. It seems the Bright eyes has been discontinued. What i might do, is roll in one of my sample sized products to try while I have it around. Since I love the Bright eyes and it doesn’t clog pores or cause me issues, it might be good to have around while I test other products in case they give me fits. Since I get a lot of clogged pores around my eyes, I often have issues with eye creams. I’ll take a look in the skin care drawer this weekend. Until then I will just use this little pot of cream until it is gone and then bid adieu to the product.

Finally the Day time moisturizer is the Comfort Zone Hydra Memory Cream gel. In case you are wondering what a cream gel is, it feels like a light cream that is slightly thicker than a water cream. It is nice for day time use and absorbs quickly. while in the heat of summer I might be able to get away with using it at night, for the rest of the year it simply wouldn’t have enough moisture in it to work as a night cream. which is fine with me as I don’t really mind having a day cream and a night cream. While this cream was nice, the sample is ended and to be honest, I don’t see myself buying a full sized version. It worked well, but it wasn’t really thrilling. It is just kind of middle of the road. I have tried products I liked a lot better and I have tried products I liked less. I just don’t see myself purchasing this in the future.

The Night Time Line Up

Cleanser: Elemis Lime Blossom Balancing Cleanser

Makeup Remover: Vitabrid Daily C Cleansing Balm

Toner: Glow Recipe Watermelon Pore Tight Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Serumkind Purple Cabbage Drops

Eye Cream: Glam Glow Bright Eyes

Moisturizer: Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Glow Moisturizer

Lips: Laneige Lip Mask in Berry

The Elemis Balancing Lime Cleanser and Vitabrid C 12 Cleansing balm are great products that I have been using for a while and that I am happy to keep using. The above links will take you to the full reviews if you are interested. I enjoy both products and will continue using them until they are gone. In the future, both are items that i would happily repurchase.

The ExfoliKate, I am kind of on the fence about. It works really well and I love how my skin feels, but the scent is starting to get to me. In the beginning it was kind of lemon scented skincare but as time passes it is reminding me more of floor polish in scent. I still adore the moisture it brings to my skin. My skin very much loves the formula, it is just the scent that is a bit industrial. While I am happy to use the rest of this jar, I am on the fence as to if I would repurchase it. I think it is going to depend on the final thoughts of if I know of moisturizers that are as good for my skin but don’t have an off putting scent.

The Laneige is as always fabulous. I have started using it not only as a night time lip mask, but also in the mornings. I will wash my face and then put on just a little of the lip mask before I start in with the other skin care. Then by the time my skincare is done and my coffee has brewed my lips are fantastically hydrated. I wouldn’t do this in the summer time but in the winter, now that the air is cold and the heater is running, the extra hit of lip mask is really helping to fend off winter chapped lips.

And that my darlings is this week’s skincare line up. It was a bit of a rollercoaster as far as product performance went. A couple of items were emptied and will soon be replaced and one was sadly discontinued. And of course I also fell back in love with an old favorite. When it comes to drama in the skin care, this is the kind of drama I favor. It’s a lot less amusing when it leads to break outs. Lamenting discontinued and fabulous as way easier to take.

The Skincare Line Up: January 14th, 2022

welcome to Friday morning my darlings. As we all think about the list of things we need to get done before we can mark an official end to the week, let’s take a look back at some of the skincare that was used this week. While I will list out the products I used daily, this month i am also using the Juice Beauty Bamboo Pore Refining (2 min) mask twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays). I will post a review separately after four full weeks of use, but I just wanted to mention that it is currently in use (this was week one). And now on with the Daytime skincare list.

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser (link will actually take you to my full review)

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Toner: Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Toner

Serum: Serumkind Purple Cabbage Drops

Eye cream: Glam Glow Bright Eyes

Moisturizer: Comfort Zone Hydramemory Cream Gel 24 hour double hydration cream gel

The Daytime Line up

The Elemis Cleanser I have used for a while. The link will actually take you to my full review. I absolutely adore this cleanser. And to be honest I would happily just continue to just use this cleanser. I did notice that I have a stock pile of sample sized cleansers though so what I might do is continue using this in the morning and then start rolling in some of the other sample sizes to try out in the evening. That way if any of them don’t perform as well as I would like I still have the Elemis there as back up. It is something I will look into later today. I think that might be a good way to try out some products with minimal concern.

The 111skin Essence is back and it is actually starting to look like the level is moving on the bottle. Since only one small drop is really needed with each application it felt like I was using it and magically the level stayed the same. I did take a week off, partially because I did want to test out the efficacy of the essence. The purpose of an essence is to prep the skin so it can more readily accept other skincare. It is essentially like a turbo boost for your skincare. So I wanted to see if i could tell a difference when I didn’t use the essence compared to when I did. And to be honest, I was happier with my other skincare when I was using the essence than when I skipped it. To me, that means that the essence is doing it’s job. Plus the scent of it is realty nice. It makes everything feel as though it is part of a high end spa. To be honest other than calling it ‘the scent of a high end spa’ I’m not entirely sure how to describe the scent other than slightly floral but not overwhelmingly floral. It smells like an expensive spa.

The Glow Recipe toner does not. It smells like watermelon juice mixed with stale water. As far as toners go it performs well and I’m sure the PHAs and BHAs are doing good things for my skin, but I just can’t take the scent. I have about a week’s worth of product left so I will be finishing this toner up this week, rolling it out of use and never repurchasing it again. There are many other Glow Recipe Products I love, this just isn’t one of them.

I do love the Glam Glow Bright Eyes Eye Cream though. This is not the first time I have used this eye cream and it won’t be the last. For a while it kept popping up on IPSY add ons and I kept picking up the little sample sized pots of it. It is what i am currently using. The small pots are adorable looking, but the also last a really long time. While it is good enough that I would be willing to spring for a full size, the small sample sizes last so long that I am perfectly happy using the sample size. In fact as this sample size was opened and rolled into my line up this week, I may see just how long one of the sample sizes lasts me. The trick is remembering which was the first week of use by the time I reach the end of the little pot of cream. I may take a second nw and put it on my calendar.

I am still on the fence about the Serum Kind Purple Cabbage drops. It is only the second week of use and I do like the way it feels on the skin, but I can’t say that i am seeing anything really note worthy. It is supposed to be calming and nourishing so perhaps I need to look a little harder to figure out exactly what i should be looking for. I do like the thickness of the serum and the fact that it does absorb fairly quickly. It does leave ,my skin feeling slightly sticky though which I’m not too fond of. Applying the moisturizer right after counteracts that so it isn’t a big deal, but it still isn’t my favorite feeling.

Because my moisturizer was too heavy for day time use, I decided to roll in another sample to try and use that up as my day cream. this week I went with the Comfort Zone Hydramemory cream gel. It is a light weight cream (white cream as opposed to clear gel). It absorbed into my skin very quickly and easily and was perfect for day time use. It would be far too light for night time use though. If I did use it at night I would have to roll in a sleeping mask. Since I am using it only during the day I have about another week’s worth of use out of this sample sixed tube. while I am likening it as a day cream it has a strange plastic-y floral sort of scent that i don’t find all that appealing. the scent isn’t strong enough for me to not want to use, it is just a strange scent for a moisturizer to have. it kind of smells like those fake plastic flowers that sometimes have a faux floral scent to go with them. When I was little I remember a store in town selling them but I haven’t seen them in a long time. And I kind of hope no one makes them any more. But it is that sort of scent. Odd but not bad. And not enough moisture for night time use, but great during the day.

The Night Time Line Up

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser (link will actually take you to my full review)

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Toner: Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Toner

Serum: Serumkind Purple Cabbage Drops

Eye cream: Glam Glow Bright Eyes

Moisturizer: Kate Somerville Exfolikate Glow Moisturizer

Makeup Remover: Vitabrid C12 Daily C Balancing Cleansing Balm

Lips: Laniege Lip Mask in Berry

A lot of the products listed at night are also listed in the day time so I won’t bore you with a repeat of their performance here and just refer you to the above paragraphs. Next week I am going to start rolling in a few new products so there will be a greater difference between night and day.

This week not so much.

The vitabrid cleansing balm I am really liking. It does a great job of removing makeup with out a lot of harsh scrubbing on the skin and it rinses off clean with no oily residue left behind. Removing makeup and leaving when the job is done is kind of top marks for a cleansing balm in my book. I am happy to continue using this until it is empty. I also have a couple of other Vitabrid products waiting in the wings that this makes me excited to try so that’s also a plus.

The Kate Somerville is an excellent moisturizer. The lemon scent to it is slightly industrial but not overpowering and it makes my skin feel so good that i am willing to ignore the scent. Plus it isn’t really a strong scent. The amount of hydration is perfect for me in the winter and at night. it was too much during the day (so I rolled in a different moisturizer for day cream) and I don’t think I could get away with using this moisturizer in the summer. It is possible it could still be a night cream in the summer, but I think it might be too heavy for my skin even then. My skin is in that weird category called “normal” and in the summer it leans towards oily and in the winter it leans towards dry. It never actually makes it to either oily or dry, but it rides those lines pretty tightly. Right now, this is the perfect night time moisturizer for me so I will happily use it. And while I would repurchase it, I would repurchase it in November, not June.

And then we wrap up with the Laneige Lip mask. In the winter it takes just one hour long walk for my lips to go from hydrated and fine to desert dry and chapped. At the moment I am using this nightly so that the dryness never lasts. It has meant that my walks may leave my lips slightly chapped but by the next morning the chapping is gone and the dry and chapped don’t ever reach the painful stage. I am a huge fan. It is a great product and one jar will last for a long time. And the little spatula that comes with it is honestly adorable. I want to try so many flavors of this lip mask.

So that my darlings was the skincare line up this week. Next week I’ll be shaking things up a little so the day and night time look a little bit different and I can continue to use up some of my sample sizes. Some of the samples will make the cut and be listed on the products to be ordered in the full size and others will simply be used and cleared out to provide space for other products. I’m sure it will be a skincare adventure. I hope the rest of your Friday is fabulous. I’ll check back in with you later when we get to the Friday Face mask. Until then, have a great one.

The Skincare Lineup: January 7th, 2022

Good morning my darlings. It is time once again to look at all the skincare products in this week’s line up. I always look forward to this post. and I hope you enjoy it. This week was interesting. On a couple of products I am approaching the one month mark which means full reviews are eminent. A couple of products are still new and I am trying to get a feel for and a few, I’m just not sure about. Kind of a nice mix. So let’s get started with it.

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

Going, Going, Gone… Enjoy big savings on exclusive, curated skincare collections before they sell out.

Toner: Glow Recipe Watermelon PHA + BHA Pore Tight Toner

Essence: 111SKIN Antioxidant energizing Essence

Serum: TerraVibe CBD Age Defying Eye Serum with hyaluronic acid

Moisturizer: Kate Somerville Exfolikate Glow Moisturizer

Okay, the elemis Cleanser I have been using off and on for over a month now and absolutely love it. I will be posting a full review with all sorts of details hopefully next week but here I will just say it is a fantastically gentle cleanser. Even when I had issues with some sort of allergic reaction, this cleanser worked well for me. Cleanses without irritating. It doesn’t hurt that Lime Blossom is one of my favorite scents.

I can’t say I feel as warmly about the Glow Recipe Toner. There are some products from Glow Recipe I love and others that i don’t. I happen to really like the Avocado sleep mask. I really don’t like this toner. For me it is mostly the scent. As a toner product it seems to work well. Normally the watermelon scents of Glow Recipe’s products don’t bother me, but something about this smells off to me. I think it might have something to do with the BHAs and PHAs added to it. Somehow that seems to have altered the scent so it still smells like watermelon but it smells like watermelon mixed with stale water. I am working my way through it though and will continue to use the product up. I will not be repurchasing it.

I will probably repurchase the Terra Vibe Serum though. This morning I hit exactly thirty days of use and will be taking my after photos to go along with the before ones I already took. I;ll have to see what the photos say, but I do feel a really big improvement in the texture of my skin, so I am pleased with this product. I will be posting a full review on Monday. But I am a fan.

And finally we reach the Moisturizer. This is an interesting one as I am currently using it as both a day and night cream. And to be honest I feel very different about it in the day and night time uses. To put it bluntly, it is too heavy for day time use with my skin. It is just too moisturizing. At night it is perfect, but it is not a cream I can wear in the day. I’ve noticed each day I am taking less and less for application onto my face. So I think I am going to shift this to just night time use and roll in a day cream for this next week’s line up. of course night time use is completely different. Let’s take a look at that.

The Night Time Line Up

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

Toner: Glow Recipe Watermelon PHA + BHA Pore Tight Toner

Essence: 111SKIN Antioxidant energizing Essence

Serum: Serumkind Purple Cabbage Drop

Moisturizer: Kate Somerville Exfolikate Glow Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask

Okay a lot of the products were the same from day to night so we will focus on the differences. The first difference is the Serum. Because I was testing out a serum with hyaluronic acid in the day, I went with a brightening serum for the night so that i could tell what was doing what. Because let’s face it if you have three hyaluronic acid products how do you tell if it is just one or all of them combined giving you the results. Or worse, one who is masking their ineffectiveness behind a rock star product?

So I separated the products. While I used the Purple cabbage drops for a few days prior to this week, it is still a very new to the line up product. Thus far I haven’t used it long enough to actually see any results. And to be honest there were a few days this week where I think I forgot to use it. I’m fighting a cold at the moment so there were a couple of days where my night time routine was reduced to taking off the makeup and slapping on the moisturizer before crawling into bed. So I can’t really say too much about this serum yet. I do like that it is a thick feeling serum that absorbs rather quickly and has only a light fresh scent to it. I was kind of worried it would smell like cabbage. Well not just cabbage, over cooked cabbage I suppose. It does not. Hopefully after this coming week I will have formed more of an opinion.

While the moisturizer is the same as I used in the day time line up, the night is where it belongs. This moisturizer provided enough moisture that I didn’t feel myself needing to reach for an extra dose of night mask. The scent is vaguely lemon cleaner-y but it isn’t too heavy and I find I don’t mind it. I think that my nose tips it more into the lemon verbena category than the industrial lemon cleaner scent that gives me fits with the Balance Me products. This moisturizer does take a little while to absorb, but it left my skin feeling beautifully soft and hydrated when i woke up the next morning. It is another reason that it is better used at night. Even with a small amount in the day time, you just had an hour or so of shiny face in the morning while it takes it’s time absorbing in. It is worth giving it the time because it is a good product, but I just don’t have that kind of time in the morning. I will happily keep using this moisturizer at night, but i will swap in a day time cream as well. This is a night time product only.

Also used only at night is the Laneige Lip mask. I really like it for night time moisturizing of the lips. As I have been fighting a cold it has been especially helpful this week. Whenever i have a cold my lips tend to dry out fast. This mask has been helping to keep that drying to a minimum. So I am happy to have it in the line up. Mine is the Berry Scent and I have used it before. I do want to branch out and try their other flavors/scents. Do you know they have one called Gummy Bear? that sounds like fun. It will take me a while to work my way through this jar though, so a repurchase is far into the future.

And there you have it my darlings, the weekly skincare line up. After a previous bad reaction, I feel like my skin is now back on solid ground, While this week’s products don’t have universal praise, it isn’t all in all not a bad group to kick off the New Year.

The Skincare Line Up: December 17th, 2021

I have an extremely rare line up for you today. I know you are looking at the picture above and thinking, Okay I see some interesting products but rare? Oh my darlings look again. Do you see the products listed? While I finished out the travel samples from last week (which were more or less reviewed last week, and I filtered in some foil packets, which I covered yesterday, this is the line up of ingredients I have left for the week.

That’s right there are six products.

And not just six products for the day and a different six at night, but six total that I used day and night this week.

I know! Talk about a slimmed down line up. So let’s look at the products shall we?

Eye Cream: Hey Honey Look into My Eyes Eye Mask

Moisturizer: Clarins Extra Firming Energy Moisturizer

You may notice that I haven’t put my deodorant and toothpaste on the list. Fear not, I am still using both. I am currently Using the Native Candy Cane Deodorant and the Gum Detoxify Toothpaste from Crest. I didn’t put them on the list because the Crest will always be on the list so it’s a given and the Native, right now is my go to deodorant. I’ll post when i change scents or if I try out another brand but for now, I decided to leave off the two constant staples. Mostly because the pictures were a bit crowded.

So lets start with the cleanser. I am using the Balancing Lime Cleanser from Elemis, And as it is a large bottle I probably will be using it for a while. I love cleansers in a pump as they tend to be easier to use with wet hands. While there is a light lime blossom scent to it, this is one of the least scented products I have tried from Elemis. I love the brand and I do like the scent of Elemis skincare, but their scents are often quite potent. This is light, crisp and clean, but it doesn’t linger. My skin feels soft and clean without feeling stripped. I have hada run of not so great cleansers lately so I am very happy to have one I really enjoy around for a while. Since cleansers are one of the most important steps in my routine (at least in my opinion) it feels great to have a good one.

I am having an issue with the Glow Recipe. For me Glow Recipe is often hit or miss. This is the first time I have had a product from them that sort of is both. The bottle was unopened until this week. It was well sealed. There is a lot of product gone, because I was testing a fluffy reusable toner pad and it soaked up more product than I expected. I love the way this toner feels on my skin and I think my skin does benefit from the PHAs and BHAs in it. However I think something about the skin care ingredients meeting the watermelon scent makes this toner feel stale. I know it isn’t stale. It is just the combination makes it smell stale. rather than giving it a fresh watermelon scent like some of the other products from Glow Recipe. I’m going to use it until it is gone, because it works well and I really do like how it feels on my skin, but this is not a product i will ever purchase again. The scent just makes me feel like I am using a product I really shouldn’t be.

The 111SKIN essence I opened before Thanksgiving and then decided not to travel with. I was more than happy to go back to it. The scent just feels luxurious and makes me think I am having a much more grand skincare experience than my bathroom can usually provide. It is just a very high end skincare scent. The essence requires only a few drops and it really feels like it is waking up my skin and getting it ready for the rest of my skincare. Which of course is what a good essence does. I am happy to keep this around for as long as I can.

The remaining three items in this week’s line up are sample sizes and sadly they will need to be replaced before the morning. the Hey Honey eye mask is one I have been using for a few weeks now. I like it, but I don’t love it. Which is odd for me to say as usually I adore Hey Honey’s products. Their Good Morning Serum remains one of my top faves. this eye mask worked well but it didn’t blow me away. I’ve had worse products certainly, but I’ve had better. If this comes my way again I would use it, but it isn’t something I would put on my must haves list.

The CEO Serum from Sunday Riley is always on my repurchase list. I have several samples of this floating around and I am always happy to slip it into my routine. I tested out a full sized version of this serum before and my skin looked and felt fantastic with it. It is kind of pricy, so I tend to wait until it goes on sale and then swoop. I loved it in the full size, will happily purchase the full size again and enjoyed using this sample size. (I think I have two more that I’ll be using at some point, then I’ll look at picking up a full size again).

And we end with the moisturizer. When I think Clarins I tend to mentally associate them with lip stain and primer, both of which I have from the brand and both of which I love. The more products I try out from Clarins though, the more i like them. I won’t say that this was a very energizing cream, but it had excellent moisturizing capacity, melted into the skin well and didn’t leave me feeling greasy. At the moment many of my daily sheet masks are moisturizing ones (simply because those are the ones in my sheet mask collection). I think if I weren’t using those, I would have needed a night mask to provide a little extra moisture at night. Right now is the season where my skin is the driest. While this was an excellent day cream, there were a couple of nights where I could have easily rolled in a night mask for a little extra help. In the summertime I think this would be an absolutely perfect moisturizer for me and I will be marking it down to try out in the full size once warmer weather arrives.

So that my darlings was this week’s skin care. It had fewer products than usual, but it did allow me to clear out some sample sizes and make a little space. And this afternoon I have the pleasure of choosing some new products to roll in for testing. That always makes me very excited. I can’t wait to see what comes out of the drawer for next week.
