The Daily: January 11th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I am pleased as punch to report that only the barest of sniffles remains. while the sniffling remains annoying, my head no longer feels as though it was stuffed with wool and then soaked with water. It is a full and heavy feeling I don’t wish on anyone. Thinking felt a bit like wading through mud. Now I am splashing through puddles.

I actually attempted a short walk today. More because I just had to get out rather than because i was ready to resume normal exercise. Alas, the park was still flooded from our recent, snow/rain/ice storm adventures. And while I might be tempted to wade through the shallows in warmer weather, in 25 degree temps, I’m going to give it a bit of a pass.

It isn’t too much of a loss today though as I still have a lot to catch up on from the holiday, power outages and feeling poorly. None if those three helped my productivity levels. And now I am playing catch up. Ah well, it is the way of the world is it not? And in addition it is January. In January I always promise myself I am going to be a much better/healthier/more productive/more organized and well more everything sort of person. So I always try a bunch of things that sound like a good idea at the time.

It is kind of an interesting process really. I try a bunch of new things in January. a few stick, a few fall by the wayside and a few are revamped for February. Generally by the end of February new habits are created and by June the habits I’ve kept are just a part of daily life. It’s kind of nice. And it lets me try new things and build the habits I want to keep at a pace I can sustain. I’m still in the try everything phase. At the end of January there will be some updates as to what sticks around moving forward.

I find it much more honest than starting January off with a ‘This year I will…’ And if there is anyone I want to be honest with, it is myself. And you guys of course, but I do try to avoid lying to myself, especially when I know it is a lie. Or I suppose misleading because I always believe on January first that this is the year i can do anything. Then reality starts intruding and Understanding or self awareness maybe, dawns in February. So technically it isn’t lying, just misleading. which is also something I want to avoid.

But that is enough time inside my head for one post, let’s switch to what’s on my face instead.

Today’s Look:

Primer: LYS Secure Skin Gripping Serum Primer

Foundation: Bite Beauty Changemaker Super charged Micellar Foundation

Bronzer: Viseart Bronze Noix

Blush: Ciate London Marbled Light Blush

Powder: bareMinerals Mineral Veil

Eyeshadow: Athr Beauty Desert Sunset Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade Soft Brown

Lips: Persona Cosmetics lip liner in 90210

Okay I couldn’t resist opening the LYS primer. I had to know if it was going to be more of a serum or a primer and I figured by now I knew how the Bite Beauty Foundation was going to perform well enough to try out a new foundation. When dispensed in the hand, this primer came out like a serum. I put it into my palms and then rubbed them together and applied it onto my skin. Once applied, it is a gripping primer. It becomes very grippy and sticky. I have no doubt that it will keep the makeup in place. And it seems to be working well. I think this is definitely a primer that has skincare, and not a serum that works like a primer. I would never use this just as a serum. It also worked well with the foundation.

The Viseart bronzer is definitely more of a buildable formula than a pigmented one, which I happen to enjoy. A lot more of my bronzers are highly pigmented and have to be applied with a lighter hand then blended out. It is nice to have a more buildable formula. Plus I think the shade works well for me.

The Ciate Blush I love, but haven’t been reaching for as much because I thought it was more of a summer shade for me. It seems to be working well for me today. I like how it turned out. It was a bit more pigmented on my not so summer tanned skin, but it blended beautifully so I am fine with the shade.

The finishing powder helped with the darker shade as well and I have to say I am pleased to once again have the bareminerals mineral veil around again. It is just a fine powder that sits well and wears well throughout the day without looking powdery.

The Stila mascara is a definite winner but from here, we start swimming in more murky waters. Let’s start with the eyeshadow. I had high hopes for this Athr Beauty palette yesterday as the brown applied really well. Today the pink shade worked well but the black in the palette was patchy. I was able to blend it well enough, but I called in the dark brown again to help (and to see if I was mistaken yesterday) and it did a good job repairing the patchiness. The brown is a much smoother applying formula than the black for some reason. Also the rosy bronze shadow pairs well with the pink tone but it is flakier than the warmer bronze I used yesterday so there was more fall out. This is a palette I definitely need to play with more to get a feel for it. Each shade seems to have it’s own set of issues.

Because I trimmed my bangs I once again started reaching for eyebrow products and decided to give this ABH Dip Brow a try. It applies quite well actually, I just think the soft brown shade may be a shade too dark for me. It is a pretty good formula though and I may play around with it a bit more

And then we wrap up with the Persona Cosmetics lip liner. The shade works for me, the texture is creamy but it is definitely a lip liner. Applying it on the lips dries them out very quickly. I do like the shad and the creaminess of the formula but it is not a lip liner to be worn on it’s own. Especially not in the winter when lips are already dry, I will try it again tomorrow with a lipstick and see how it performs then. But on it’s own, the creaminess of application quickly gives way to dry lips.

And now my darlings, it is back to work for me. I hope the rest of your day is utterly fantastic.

The Daily: January 10th, 2022

Happy Monday my darlings. I have to admit, I am still dragging a bit today. I slept a large chunk of the weekend away, which is probably for the best, even if it isn’t the most exciting thing. I ended up Binging The Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount + for a large chunk of time that I was away. I interspersed this with RuPaul’s Drag race actually. I’m not entirely certain what the combo says about me, but for a weekend with a head cold, it worked for me.

I am feeling a lot better actually. Like I said there was sleep but not much of anything else. And to be honest, there won’t really be much walking today either. I went to the mailbox to get the mail earlier and my lungs and sinuses were not pleased with me. The cold is waning, but still not ready to be set aside.

On the plus side though the sneezing and water eyes have ebbed so I actually applied my makeup today with a reasonable chance of it staying on. And for some reason I just decided today was a red lip day and everything else had to just sort of go with it.

Maybe red lipstick just makes me feel happy.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch Primer

Foundation: Bite Beauty ChangeMaker Foundation

Bronzer: Viseart Bronze Noix

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Powder: bareMinerals Mineral Veil

Eyeshadow Palette: Athr Beauty Desert Sunset Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips: Dose of Colors Date Night

Today was an interesting mix of products. I decided that i wanted to go with a red lip and then I realized I hadn’t used the Dose of Colors red in a while. I like the color, although I think I’d like it just a hair darker. I like the Dose’s formula stays put but it also tends to dry out my lips, which is why I don’t wear it a lot any more. It is one of those formulas that was perfect when I was running from meeting to meeting and knew that I wouldn’t have a chance to stop and touch up. It is fabulous at staying in place. It does dry the lips out though, so I always keep a lip balm to top it off with periodically through out the day. And then tonight I’ll do a lip scrub and put on my lip mask to makeup for the day’s dryness. Beyond the dryness the one issue I have with this is that I don’t currently have a matching lip liner. It really needs one or it seeps into the fine lines around the lips. Or at least it does on me.

The Clarins Foundation, I love. It is an excellent pore filling primer and the slightly pink tint in it works well for me, especially today when I am a bit post cold pale. It also worked well with the Bite Beauty Foundation. Now that i have started putting it on with a makeup sponge, I really like this foundation. It just took a little bit of time time figure out. Which is why I like to use a foundation for at least a week before I make up my mind about it. I know, it isn’t as dramatic as a one time use, but I get a better feel for the product.

I am starting to get a feel for the Viseart Bronzer. while it is very bendable and the pan size is great, It isn’t very pigmented. I don’t mind that a it allows for buildability and I don’t do a lot of really hard lines of bronze or contour. I really like the feel of the formula. I also kind of like the little packaging too. I like the way it unfolds and I think it would be a great travel bronzer.

The bareMinerals Blush is hands down one of my favorite formulas of blush and The Mineral veil is an old favorite I am happy to get the chance to use again.

The Stila mascara is rapidly rising to the top of my mascaras list. It is just a really good mascara for length and volume.

This was my first use of the Athr Beauty palette. Today I went with the simple darkest brown and a touch of bronzy gold. The Dark brown was very powdery. Today I applied shadow after the face makeup. I think in the future I will need to do the eyes first then the face with this palette. The first use went well. The one matte worked well with the one shimmer. The dark brown was quite pigmented but blended out nicely. And it worked well with the gold. So I have high hopes as I move forward with the palette. I just need to remember it is powdery enough to reverse the order in which I apply my makeup and I will be fine.

And with the face done, it is time to get back to work. This month I am using the Juice Beauty Pore Refining Mask on Mondays and Wednesdays (with the usual Face Mask Friday Post on Fridays.)My first test of that will be at the end of the day. So for a while, we will be skipping the sheet masks as I give Juice Beauty a full trial. But again, that is for later. For now, it is back to work for me. I hope your Monday is going beautifully well.

The Daily: January 5th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I have to say, even with a load of things to get done, I have been moving a bit on the slow side today. Yesterday I did what needed to be done in the yard, post windstorm. Which is a pretty good thing considering we are expecting another bout of nastiness to roll in either tonight or tomorrow. In a little while I will be popping out into the yard to see if anything looks like me taken down in inclement weather and see if I should take it down first.

Planning mode at it’s finest.

I will say though I am moving very slowly. There was a lot of bending, lifting, carrying and squatting going on yesterday. I feel like I had far more of an intense workout than anything I’ve had at the gym. I also have a bit of a runny nose from sweating in the cold yesterday. I am hoping it it just takes a short burst of recuperation before it dissipates.

Because of it though, I did keep my makeup fairly simple. I’ll get to it in a moment. As for exercise, I think I’m going to skip the walk today and just count the travels around the yard this afternoon to spot trouble my work out for the day. It will limber up stiff muscles but won;t keep me out in the cold too long. Today is one of those days where it is probably best that I stay inside.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional Primer

Foundation: Bite Beauty Changemaker foundation

Bronzer/Blush/Highlighter/powder: PUR 4-in-1 Skin Perfecting Powders Face Palette

Eyeshadow: Shaina B Miami Nights Mini Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips Evio Beauty Creamy Lip liner

Okay today was really about playing around with the Bite Beauty Foundation. So I generally chose products that I knew and loved and more importantly knew how they performed. The Benefit Primer is a classic and a staple in my makeup bag for a reason. It is just a really good primer.

The PUR Cosmetics Face Palette has all of the face powders I needed and is a great thing to grab when I am in a hurry as all of the products perform well. The blush isn’t my favorite shade, but I can use the bronzer and powder to sort of balance it out. And even though it isn’t my fave, it still works for me so that really isn’t much of a complaint.

With the Shaina B I just did a one and done look with the color space It is a nice pink-y sort of shade that I didn’t have to think much about. I used the Stila mascara which I have to say is very quickly outpacing the other mascaras to become my favorite. My lashes are long and thick looking today and I am very happy with this mascara. The lip liner from Evio I also grabbed, mostly because it was out and went well with the eyeshadow I chose.

But now the Bite Beauty Foundation. I have to say applied with a foundation brush, I found this foundation to be so-so. Okay, but nothing to get excited about. Today, I used a damp makeup sponge rather than a foundation brush and I have to say it made a world of difference. I used less product. It blended better into my skin. It feels utterly weightless (which is in part due to me using less of it). It is like an entirely different foundation. I usually use a brush to apply my foundation and then go in with a makeup sponge where needed. It is just what I am accustomed to doing. With this foundation I will definitely have to remember to leave the brush behind and only use the makeup sponge. Over all I am very pleased with how the foundation performed today. Way to go Bite Beauty! I just wish I knew to use the sponge only from the get go.

The Daily: January 3rd, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings and welcome to January. It has been a wild day thus far. As I’ve mentioned we have been having unseasonably warm weather for our area at this time of year. New Year’s day was actually in the 70s. January second wasn’t much better. This morning when I got up is was 31 degrees and there was snow on the ground. The thermometer hasn’t moved much throughout the day. Around noon we had 32 degrees but then about fifteen minutes later it dropped down to 30. Apparently it could not sustain the fit of optimism.

With the snow came in a massive wind storm and in addition to everything freaking out because of the sudden temperature change, we have a chunk of our county and most of the neighboring county out of power. Emergency vehicles and power company vehicles have been circling the streets like sharks.

So there is no walking for me today. It is cold, it is damp and the wind is still in Cuisinart mode shredding anything that walks into it. Having no desire to turn into coleslaw, I am staying inside. I’ll admit I am a bit torn about that. Last week and over the weekend I over indulged. Any attempt at a meal plan was chucked out of the window and foods that I haven’t eaten in a long time made their way in a food parade though my world. Do I regret their visitation? No. Did I enjoy them? Yes. Did I try to exercise restraint? Yes, yes I did.

It just also hit me this morning when i woke up that on Friday I will be getting back on the scale again. Before last week I would have been fine. After this past week, I am less than confident. Which makes me really, really want to go walking. I know if I do, I’ll get myself sick and that will in no way help my exercise plan. So I am just going to do my best to get back on my plan. I will accept any set backs that occur when I step on the scale Friday morning and do my best not to dwell on it. I will still hope that the wind dies down soon. Not just for my potential walking but for the security of the counties remaining power lines.

Because I am inside today, I did get a lot of work done. I also managed the time to sit down and do my makeup. I’ll admit, I couldn’t resist the new makeup.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Glass Primer from Rodial

Foundation: Bite Beauty Changemaker Foundation

Bronzer: Viseart Bronze Noix

Blush: Lottie London Ombre Blush

Eyeshadow: Shaina B Miami Nights Palette

Mascara: Stila Cosmetics Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips: EVIO Beauty Creamy lip liner

Okay I know I generally like to try one new face product paired with products that I know about so that I can more easily gauge the new products, But I just couldn’t resist a full face of new. It has been a really long time since I’ve gotten to try a complete face of entirely new to me products. So I reveled. Clearly for the most part this is a first impression for everyone, but as I use the products more (and with products I know well) I’ll get a better feel as to how they perform.

So let’s start off with the Rodial Primer. The first thing I noticed was the scent. The white cream applies well and blends in with no white cast, but the scent is strange. In the bottle is smells very vanilla pseudo candy-ish. Once dispense and applied, to me it smells a bit like menthol. It also felt a little cooling on the skin. I’m going to have to give a look to the ingredients list later, but I found that a little strange. It did apply well and gave my skin a bit of a glossy sheen. While that isn’t generally what i look for in a primer, it also did have a little stickiness to it so I’m hoping that leans it towards makeup gripping.

The Bite Beauty Foundation I have been looking forward to trying. I think the shade I have might be a hair too light for me. It applied with more coverage than I was expecting. I tend to go for light to medium coverage and this was a solid medium. I went light on application and I liked the way it blended into my skin. I used a foundation brush to apply it, but i think it might do better with a sponge as the applicator. I’m going to try that tomorrow. I like it with the brush, but I had to work a bit to get it where I wanted it. I really like the way it looks and feels now that it is on though. So I am very willing to work with it. I just think it needs to be applied with a makeup sponge.

Brushes were also a concern with the bronzer and blush today. For my bronzer the brush I picked up was sort of floppy and not dense enough for me. The bronzer applied well and I think with a better brush, it will be a better product. I look forward to trying it out again tomorrow.

Then there is the blush. It is an Ombre blush with a lighter strip of pale peach at the bottom and a bright pink at the top. the brush I was using was too large for the pan and I got both shades on the brush. The pan is about the size of a half dollar coin. Which is too small for what they are trying to achieve. I can wear the lighter blush, and I may be able to blend it with the edge where the lighter blush meets the darker one, but I can’t use that deep pink shade. If it was a larger pan the Ombre would work. With the smaller pan, it doesn’t. I will say that it is highly pigmented. It does blend down well but it takes effort. The deep pink shade does not work with my skin tone and it took a lot of effort to not look clown like. It was my least favorite product in the bunch today. I think that may just be because of the shade though. The product itself worked well. and could blend down. The shade is just all wrong.

The Miami Nights Mini Palette I did get a first use out of the week it arrived in an IPSY box. The silver metallic shadow was something I couldn’t resist. Unfortunately it overpowered everything and I found glitter everywhere for days. And let me tell you, if you use a makeup eraser to remove your makeup then after removing that silver eyeshadow you need to wash it immediately or any other attempt to remove makeup will leave a silver trail of sparkles across your skin. Today, I avoided the silver and stuck to the mattes. The mattes I really like. I tapped off the excess powder, but despite using the darker shades today there was little fall out during application. The shadows blended very well and I was quite impressed. Part of me still wants to reach for the silver shadow, but if I can resist that, I should be fine. Thus far the shades are performing well.

The mascara from Stila I have to admit I am totally in love with. I used to use Stil products but i haven’t seen them for a while. In fact i sort of forgot about them if I’m honest. I will however remember this mascara. My favorite Marc Jacobs mascara was recently discontinued but this can easily be a replacement. Since I have both open at the moment I may do a side by side comparison. I honestly may even like this better. It made my lashes look long and full Thus far I am thrilled with it and will be very happy to use it moving forward. I think I may also start taking more of a look at Stila again.

And then we have the lip liner. A duo of this lip liner came in my Boxy Charm this month and I decided to use it all over my lips. Usually I can’t because the formula is too drying. This isn’t. It is a nice creamy lip formula. It does leave lip prints everywhere and it wears off pretty quickly. I applied it before my coffee and it was gone by the time I finished my coffee. I then reapplied it. It isn’t long lasting, but i really like the way it looks. If I needed something to apply when i knew I wasn’t going to be eating or drinking anything, this is a product I would happily grab. How long it lasts without eating or drinking I don’t know. But I like the color well enough to look at finding out.

So that my darlings was today’s makeup look. It is a cold and quiet day, with my hair pulled back into a messy ponytail and the frozen world outside too cold to even start dripping. But my hose has power and all things considering, it isn’t a bad start to the new year.
