The Daily: March 14th, 2022

Oh my darlings, we had ourselves a rollercoaster of a weekend here. I went to bed on Friday night and it was 57 degrees outside. Temperatures plummeted in the night and I woke to 22 degrees and four inches of snow on the ground. I know that doesn’t sound like much but when you live in an area that sees more wind storms than snow storms, it was enough to cancel any form of plans anyone had. most places were closed and for some reason everyone raided the grocery stores for bread and milk, along with coffeemate. I don’t know if the store was just running low but every flavored coffee creamer in the refrigerated aisle was cleared out. Which I found a little amusing.

And right on cue with the snowstorm, my Easter dress arrived from Ever Pretty. I remember so many Easter Sundays where I had the thin little Easter dress and was given the pretty cardigan to wear over it to keep warm only to have my legs feel like they were freezing off. So it seems appropriate that the dress arrived.. It also necessitated a full length photo which I almost never take, mostly because I tend to take the photos myself. If given a camera my babydoll will aim it in the general direction, take the photo as quickly as possible before moving away, lest he be asked to take another one. He is not a fan of the camera.

But I needed the picture so he took it. And while I love the dress the full length photo reminded me how much weight I still have to lose. I can pretend if it is just a head shot. And I know, I am doing the slow chipping away, but it feels like I have been at a stand still for a while, so there may be some revaluation this week, possibly followed by a consultation with a professional. I ended up feeling both good about myself and bad about myself all in one fell swoop.

I’d like to say I am above it and that because i am working on my weight I let it go, but it is a hard thing to let go of. It was harder as this past week showed a gain. Even though it was justified, it still didn’t help my frame of mind. I’m using it to motivate me instead of letting it get me down. That’s the positive.

I’ll also say that the time change didn’t help matters. I woke up feeling like someone stole an hour from me this morning. I’m not a morning person and Spring Forward always hurts Me and the coffee pot are best friends today. So yeah, over all this weekend was a real rollercoaster of emotions and thoughts for me. But thus far Monday has actually been chugging along nicely. I’m anticipating a late afternoon crash and decline in productivity, but this far, things are going well.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer

Foundation: NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Ciate London Marbled Light Blush

Highlighter: Nomad Cosmetics in Moonlight

Powder: Becca Cosmetics Pink Haze

Eyeshadow: Karmela Cosmetics Defiance palette

Mascara: Big Poppa from Wet ‘n Wild

Lips: Uoma Lip Liner in Angelou and MAC Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath

I am still working my way through the primers and foundations to see what stays and what goes. I’m actually impressed by how many foundations I let go honestly. I know some of them were almost empty but it still counts. Today I paired the Too Faced Hangover primer with the Nars foundation. They are actually a great pair. The too Faced Primer I can only wear for a limited amount of time in the year. It is a fantastically hydrating primer. Unfortunately once the world heats up, it is a little too hydrating for my skin. It is great at this time of year though. And I enjoyed using it.

The NARS foundation I forgot about. It is more full coverage than I usually use, which is why I haven’t reached for it. It is a great formula though and as most of the foundations I did clear out are more full coverage, I will be keeping this one and using it up. It is a bit on the light side for me, which is another reason that I don’t reach for it a lot. While I like the formula, I don’t know if I would purchase it again. There are other formulas I simply prefer more.

I really should have paired it with a darker powder but I saw the Pink Haze and realized I hadn’t used it in a while. It is a Becca product and Becca is, alas, no more. I am trying to use it up to clear it out and then looking for a new pink powder to replace it with. i really like having a pink setting powder for days where I just look a little pale and wan looking. It is a great way to brighten the skin with out going crazy. It is a subtle warmth to the skin.

Both the Buxom Bronzer and the Ciate London blush are two of my favorites, although the blush is deep enough I probably should wait until I have more of a tan to use it. I was sad to see that it wasn’t listed on the Ciate Site any more. I think it is just not currently available rather than discontinued. At least i really hope it isn’t discontinued as it is my favorite Ciate Blush. their other blushes are okay, but this one works well and blends much more easily than the others I’ve tried. So hopefully i is just out of stock.

Today I reached for the Nomad highlighter because it is one I’ve been holding onto for a while without using. It is a purple toned highlighter that looks a bit holographic when it catches the light. It is lovely and I love looking at it. But I don’t wear it much. In truth the reason it has lasted so long is because I have no other highlighters like it, not because I wear it. It wants to be just a bright stripe of highlight and doesn’t blend well, which is what I like my highlighters to do. I put it on and wasn’t really a fan. I think what I may do is transfer it to my single shadows drawer and see if I like it better there. It is a fantastic color, just not for my cheeks.

This was the second use for me of the Defiance Palette. Today I went only with the mattes to see how they worked. They apply with nice pigmentation and I like the range of shades as it looks like a good everyday palette. The blending didn’t go so well. Several of the shades disappeared when I started blending. I think tomorrow I may try it with a lid primer, but while the colors are nice, the shadows were not that impressive.

I am more and more impressed with the UOMA lip liner though. I am finding myself reaching for it more and more often. The shade is perfect for an everyday look for me. It is stiff enough that it gives sharp lines well, but soft enough that I don’t feel i am using a number two pencil on my lips. On it’s own it can be a little drying, but it is not nearly as drying as most lip liners when used for lipstick and can be worn on it’s own. Usually when I wear it alone I put a little lip balm over it which helps. It also pairs well with one of my favorite lipsticks and that is the MAC Love Me Lipstick in Bated breath. The color is fantastic for everyday wear and I have worn it quite low. I am going to have to replace it soon actually. And when I do I will probably also add Ruby to my order. It looks like the perfect red shade for me and you know I am still on the quest for the perfect red lip. If it is MAC I will be thrilled because I love this formula.

And finally I topped this look off with the wet n wild mascara. It is a great formula that gives me length and volume and quite honestly puts some of my more expensive mascaras to shame. It is one of those use well after opening. I only keep mascaras six months because of possible eye contaminants, but this is a mascara that won’t let you keep it past six months. Right on the six month mark I’ll notice it starts to clump a little. Until then it works perfectly. It is almost like a built in product timer. Which I’m not mad about. Partially because I sometimes lose track of what I opened when. This year my goal is to have fewer mascaras open at a time. I think I am down to about four open ones so I am doing pretty good. I have a couple of open ones that have only a few more months left so I think I am doing well. Personally I would like to only have about two open at a time. I’m not sure I make that goal though as I sometimes have a hard time not opening a new mascara. But I am going to try.

And so my darlings that is me today. I am chugging along, trying not to grumble about the time thief who stole an hour from me this morning and I am thinking of ways to revamp my workout routine and possibly start chipping off some of the weight a little faster. Not hugely fast you understand, because it always worries me when weight drops too fast. I just want fast enough that I no longer feel like I am standing still. And god almighty I would like to get under 200 lbs. You have no idea how much I want that. So tonight there will be time spent in reevaluation. For now though, it is back to work for me. I hope the rest of your Monday goes swimmingly.

The Daily: January 25th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope you are all having a fabulous Tuesday. The sun is shining here and I have to admit, I skipped my planned morning workout to go on a longer walk. It was 50 degrees and sunny.

I regret nothing.

I did come home to a full e-mail in box and several text messages so it was sort of a trade off on time, but truthfully, I regret nothing. There were too many days last week where I didn’t leave the house for me to feel bad about extra walking time. There was a little extra time spent in conversation with my neighbor’s daughter.

My neighbor Agnes has some form of dementia and so her kids and a nurse take turns staying with her and her daughter came in today and found that all of the notes reminding her Agnes not to go out of the house on her own were taken down. Agnes folded them and made them into a paper chain. They were folded quite intricately. Apparently this has been going on a while. The family puts up nots, Agnes leaves them for a day or two then takes them all down and folds them into a paper chain and then the family puts up more notes.

Its like some form of non-verbal protest against the restrictions. Or at least that is what the son (who is a psychiatrist) thinks. Agnes’ daughter just wanted to check with me to see if she had been actually going out or if it was just the taking down of the notes. Mostly because when Agnes leaves the house she seems to just come over to our house.

Despite the note removal, Agnes hasn’t left the house and I text the family every time she does so it is just the notes. And a quite elaborate paper chain. Its the sort of paper chain that my mother used to make with gum wrappers when she was a child. It was actually kind of impressive.

Today’s Look:

Primer: LYS Secure Skin Gripping Serum Primer

Foundation: KVD Vegan Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation

Bronzer: LYS No Limits Matte Bronzer

Blush: Ciate London Marbled Light Blush

Highlighter: About Face Light Lock Fluid Highlight

Eyeshadow: Formula Z So pretty Palette

Mascara: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Lips: Mac Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath

Okay I am still testing out this primer and today, I used it with the KVD Powder Foundation. i really like this foundation as normally it is quick and easy to use. It blends beautifully. Today, it ended up patchy because the primer gripped it in strange ways. It went from a foundation that was easy peasy to apply to one that was a struggle. This far this is the only formula that I’ve tried that has this issue. (and the KVD has never had this issue before). I think this primer just doesn’t work well with powder foundations.

Today I also decided to use the LYS bronzer. It is okay. It is a large pan which is nice and the packaging is pretty. The formula is buildable but can also blend away to nothing if you aren’t careful with it. It is a bronzer I will use since I have it, but not one I reach for often and not one I would repurchase.

The marbled light blush from Ciate is a product I love, reach for a lot and would happily repurchase. However when i went onto their site I noticed that it wasn’t there. I am really hoping they just need to restock it. The above link will take you to their illuminating blush, which is also nice. I have it and use it, but I do prefer the marbled light.

lots of fall out, I had to clean up more after this photo was taken

I took out the About Face Highlighter today mostly because it was in the drawer with the LYS Bronzer. This is another product i don’t tend to reach for often and I need to actually keep it out to give it more of a trial. It is a liquid highlighter and the container is large and over built. It is pretty but it takes up a lot of space for a 0.5 oz bottle of product. Today I put it on and it looked a little more greasy than illuminating. so I put a little bit of powder over it and it more or less disappeared. At that point though I had already spent enough time getting the primer and foundation to get along that I didn’t really want to spend more time on the highlighter. I think when it came in I tried it once but never played around with it. I might do some playing and see what happens. At the moment, I like the packaging but am not so thrilled with the product.

Today I went again for the Formula Z palette. Today though, I only went for the mattes. Mostly because I couldn’t find my eyelid primer. I’m going to try to locate it tonight. Then I’ll play around more with the glitters. Because these glitters need some help to sty in place. the setting spray did it’s best by by the end of the day I had bronzed glitter contours down the sides of my nose. While an interesting look, not really what i was going for. So I played around with the mattes today. There are only two. One almost perfectly matches my skin tone and the other is a dark brown. I applied the dark brown and then blended with the lighter skin matching shade.

They are both powdery and I have both colors in better, easy to blend formulas. This got there in the end, but it was more of an effort then I wanted to put into what basically amounts to a one and done shadow look. If I end up keeping this palette, it is going to be because I like the glitters and don’t have that many in my collection. I’m not keeping it for the mattes.

The Eyeko Black magic I am keeping. While I prefer the formula of the Lash Alert from Eyeko it is still a good formula and I am still happy to use it. And honestly it was a relief to just swipe it on after the make up issues of the day. The MAC lipstick was also a treat. I appreciated the mascara and lips causing no issues whatsoever. Plus this is one of my favorite neutral lipsticks. It goes well with my skin tone without completely washing out my lips into my face. And MAC always has a great formula. They were my first love in lipsticks and remain dear to my heart.

So that was my makeup look today. It was more of a struggle than my daily makeup is. Usually if I have this much trouble it is because I am trying something fancy i saw on a tutorial. And generally making a mess of it. Normally my every day looks don’t take a lot of time. This took a lot of time. And still came out looking like an everyday office look. If I take this much time with my makeup, I want it to look spectacular. Not bad, wasn’t worth this kind of effort. But some days are like that my darlings. I just like to keep them to a minimum. Hopefully that means my meetings later this afternoon will go smoothly. One can only hope. And now that I know to avoid powder foundations with this primer, I’m sure tomorrow will be a brighter day. At least as far as makeup application goes. Happy Tuesday!

Creatives to Promote Hint Still

The Daily: June 15th, 2021

Good Afternoon my darlings. Summer hours have arrived. Any walk on the trail that does not occur prior to 10 am is just ill-advised. Apparently what little spring we had is completely gone. Actually this year it seems that winter just sort of passed the baton to summer without giving more than a nod to spring.

Regardless, I managed to get my walk in just as the sun was becoming scorching. There was still sweat but there wasn’t that too long in the sun dizziness. We’ve reached the stage where i start wondering if I could repurpose an umbrella to serve as a parasol during my walks. Quite frankly I think that is a fashion that needs to make a come back.

Fashion or not, the end result is that I managed to get my walk in. I’ve also realized that with the easing of restrictions I can feel more comfortable wearing more of my jewelry again. I actually had to put a lot of my earrings away for fear of mask entanglement. I almost ripped one out of my ear last year and decided away was a better course of action. I might have to spend tonight sorting and untangling.

But for Today’s Look, no jewelry I’m afraid.

Primer: YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer

Foundation: Elf Acne Fighting Foundation

Bronzer: NARS Laguna Beach

Blush: Ciate London Marbled Light Halo

Highlighter: Illamasqua Beyond Powder in OMG

Powder: Smashbox Photo Finish Fresh Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered

Mascara: Pretty Vulgar The Feathers

Lips: Wet n’ Wild Mega Last Lip in Cinnamon Spice

Setting Spray: MAC Fix +

Due to sweat and stress and still occasional masking I have a few bumps coming up on my chin so the acne fighting foundation seemed like a good call today. Plus it is a fantastic foundation so no complaints. I also like the YSL Blur Primer. I am however trying to use it up at the moment. I have a sample size and it comes with a small paddle to apply the product rather than a pump and even though I have been careful It seems like something that could easily be contaminated, so I am trying to remember to use it more. I actually rather like it though. It is blurring to the pores and slightly brightening but not to gowy under the foundation. I am not a dewy look kind of person. The dewy look makes me think I need to blot with powder. Especially in the summer time.

Speaking of powder I pulled the Smashbox powder from the drawer today. It is a very frustrating product. I like the powder a lot. It is a great color on me and doesn’t look powdery. However it is a shave the powder as you go product. To use you twist the dial it shaves powder from a solid block and boom you have loose powder. In theory it is fabulous. However the longer I keep the compact the more the dial keeps sticking.I think I am going to use it until the dial won’t turn and the break open the compact and just use the powder as a pressed powder. For now the dial still turns though so it is used as intended.

The MAC Fix plus is working well as a setting spray After two uses I am about half way through the sample size of the setting spray so I will be finishing it out this week. It works well though so in the future i think i will look into picking up a full size.

Everything else is more or less a standard favorite. With Huda beauty i just did a quick swipe across the eyes and as always I am reminded of how much I like the Feathers mascara from Pretty Vulgar. I think it surprises me because I first picked it up solely because the packaging looked nice. I do love the curved wand and the lengthening the product gives my lashes though. It’s like being rewards for a superficial thought. Still a very good mascara.

Over all it is a pretty quiet day. Working away and trying to check things off my to do list. At least with the heat the way it is, I got my daily work out checked off early. The summer heat is sort of the anti-procrastination tool. which I suppose is a good thing. Anyway back to work for me. i hope all of you are having a fabulous Tuesday as well.
