The Daily: May 18th, 2022

Welcome to Wednesday my darlings. Truthfully my week is a little messed up and I feel that it is only Tuesday, regardless of what the calendar says. It is the danger of taking parts of Monday off. I’m just going to accept that I will be a little off for the rest of the week and then reset over the weekend.

Today however there is no makeup. As you can clearly see from the photo, it was an all natural day, just me and several layers of sunscreen. There was a follow up with the Avene Thermal Water when I came back in the house, but no makeup was going to survive today.

This morning I thought I would get some early gardening in since there was nothing done over the weekend. I pulled the weeds and most importantly the little treelets that were sprouting from the seeds thrown into the garden beds by the surrounding trees. If you don’t get them early they can be a real pain to uproot. They were still at the relatively easy to uproot stage, but there were a lot of them.

After they were gone I noticed a vine growing up and around some other plants. I don’t know what it was but I didn’t plant it and I wasn’t about to let it take over. So I went to pull it. It didn’t want to pull. So I went to the shed to find some trimmers. There were no trimmers. So I picked up the machete. I figured with a careful cut I could slice off the offending vine and be good. Then I got going, found the vines everywhere and just went a little crazy on the offending vines.

barefaced and soon to hit the shower

I can’t lie, it felt good.

I have no illusions about getting all of the weeds but I feel somewhat victorious, even if it is a temporary victory.

Unfortunately by the time I was done I was a sweaty mess. I figured since i was already sweaty I would go on a walk. It was kind of a mega sweat event. When I got back I washed my face and cooled down. In a little while there ill be a shower. (it would have been an earlier shower but there were several phone calls i was pulled into while I was cooling off.

After that i simply didn’t feel like wearing any makeup.

I did however revel in the use of my cleanser. I am currently using the new Clove and Hallow Cloud Powder and after cleansing I just liked my skin.

So bare faced today, but at least i can say that between the lengthier spate of gardening than I intended and my walk, I have certainly hit my calorie count. So I can’t really complain. But now it is off to the shower to get fully clean and into fresh clothes and then I will finish out the paperwork for the day. I took more time than expected but really, I can’t complain. It needed to be done, and it felt good over all to do it.

The Daily: January 5th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I have to say, even with a load of things to get done, I have been moving a bit on the slow side today. Yesterday I did what needed to be done in the yard, post windstorm. Which is a pretty good thing considering we are expecting another bout of nastiness to roll in either tonight or tomorrow. In a little while I will be popping out into the yard to see if anything looks like me taken down in inclement weather and see if I should take it down first.

Planning mode at it’s finest.

I will say though I am moving very slowly. There was a lot of bending, lifting, carrying and squatting going on yesterday. I feel like I had far more of an intense workout than anything I’ve had at the gym. I also have a bit of a runny nose from sweating in the cold yesterday. I am hoping it it just takes a short burst of recuperation before it dissipates.

Because of it though, I did keep my makeup fairly simple. I’ll get to it in a moment. As for exercise, I think I’m going to skip the walk today and just count the travels around the yard this afternoon to spot trouble my work out for the day. It will limber up stiff muscles but won;t keep me out in the cold too long. Today is one of those days where it is probably best that I stay inside.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional Primer

Foundation: Bite Beauty Changemaker foundation

Bronzer/Blush/Highlighter/powder: PUR 4-in-1 Skin Perfecting Powders Face Palette

Eyeshadow: Shaina B Miami Nights Mini Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips Evio Beauty Creamy Lip liner

Okay today was really about playing around with the Bite Beauty Foundation. So I generally chose products that I knew and loved and more importantly knew how they performed. The Benefit Primer is a classic and a staple in my makeup bag for a reason. It is just a really good primer.

The PUR Cosmetics Face Palette has all of the face powders I needed and is a great thing to grab when I am in a hurry as all of the products perform well. The blush isn’t my favorite shade, but I can use the bronzer and powder to sort of balance it out. And even though it isn’t my fave, it still works for me so that really isn’t much of a complaint.

With the Shaina B I just did a one and done look with the color space It is a nice pink-y sort of shade that I didn’t have to think much about. I used the Stila mascara which I have to say is very quickly outpacing the other mascaras to become my favorite. My lashes are long and thick looking today and I am very happy with this mascara. The lip liner from Evio I also grabbed, mostly because it was out and went well with the eyeshadow I chose.

But now the Bite Beauty Foundation. I have to say applied with a foundation brush, I found this foundation to be so-so. Okay, but nothing to get excited about. Today, I used a damp makeup sponge rather than a foundation brush and I have to say it made a world of difference. I used less product. It blended better into my skin. It feels utterly weightless (which is in part due to me using less of it). It is like an entirely different foundation. I usually use a brush to apply my foundation and then go in with a makeup sponge where needed. It is just what I am accustomed to doing. With this foundation I will definitely have to remember to leave the brush behind and only use the makeup sponge. Over all I am very pleased with how the foundation performed today. Way to go Bite Beauty! I just wish I knew to use the sponge only from the get go.

Workout Waffle: July 21st, 2020

My three favorite pieces of at home gym equipment (and the foot pump that makes the yoga ball small space friendly. (and yes. there are technically two yoga mats there)

Morning all, things have been interesting here.  I’ve more or less had to give up my walks outside for a little while. Its not totally unexpected, its just a bit early.  Usually the dog days of August hit and drive everyone inside for sanity’s sake.  I noticed it seemed a lot hotter than I remembered from last year, but looking over my notes I saw that I was still walking until the first week of August last year.  This year that’s a no go as we frequently hit triple digits or sit just under them. I have to say there is something I find oddly disturbing about seeing a digital thermometer read 99 degrees. I’m not entirely sure why, 100 is clearly hotter, but 99 manages to bother me more somehow.

My baby checked the weather data for me and surprise, record highs.  We are actually ten degrees warmer where I live than we usually are at this time of year.

Because clearly that’s what this year needed, a brain melting heat wave.

After all, it’s not like anything else is going on, right?

So indoor workouts it is, at least until the heat breaks.  So today I’m going to waffle a bit about my three favorite items in my at home workout tool kit. I should probably mention that my house was built in the late 1940s. While it is quite spacious enough for us, there aren’t buckets of extra space.  As a result I have what I like to think of as a moveable gym. It goes where there happens to be space at the moment.

The first element in this set up is my Yoga mat.  Even if your activities aren’t yoga based, I highly recommend getting one.  The first thing it does is it gives you a designated workout space. So what if you had to shift aside the couch to set up your personal gym?  While that mat is down, it is a designated space and makes it feel somehow more official.

I know that sounds a little strange, but it really is helpful, even if only psychologically.  The mat temporarily transforms the space.  Plus, it is the same mat each workout regardless if you are in the back bedroom, living room or back porch. Using the same mat each time helps signal your brain (or at least mine) that even if this is where you ate popcorn and watched bad horror movies last night (Evil Dead in case you are wondering), now it is the place where you work out.

In addition the mat is textured to keep your feet from slipping and it keeps you from sweating on the carpet.  Which are things I generally like and find helpful during my workout.

My second piece of equipment is a yoga ball.  There are a lot of workouts you can download that use the yoga ball. It is also easily collapsible when you aren’t using it so you can easily get it out of the way if need be.  If you don’t have an electric air mattress pump hanging around your house, I recommend getting the yoga ball with the foot pump.  They look silly, but they are a life saver. I think most of them come with some sort of pump, but double check before you buy.

I really like the yoga balls because first off, the exercises done with them tend to be low impact so tender joints like knees are protected. and they are great if you are just getting started on a workout plan. Plus, when you start out a workout sitting on a giant rubber ball, it is hard not to think of it as fun.  And seriously, how often as an adult do you get to bounce around with a giant rubberized ball? In a way that isn’t condemned by society at large?

My third item has to be my leg/arm weights.  The ones I’ve got are from ProsourceFit.  They are a soft material that just feels like a bag of sand and has adjustable Velcro straps so you can move them from your ankles to your wrists.  I have size medium in case you were wondering.

(And no this is not sponsored, I just really like ProsourceFit. If I can’t pick something up in person I tend to order from them so their name comes up a lot when I talk about my equipment. The products are good quality and they last a really long time.  Plus, they are usually on the ball with shipping.  They tend to sell out of stuff because they seem to have a high turnover rate, although they are really good about restocking if they are out of something just wait a few days and check in and it is usually restocked. At least in my experience.  I’ve been eyeing some Kettle bells for a while now as well as a replacement yoga mat – I have two layered because they are both worn out in places and need to be replaced – so I may be placing a new order soon.)

While these are currently my top three items for an at home workout, I am always willing to try new things, so that may change.  Especially as my walks are down to nil until the heat breaks. I suspect this will mean a bump up in my indoor fitness as well as closer attention to my calorie intake. So that is this week’s workout waffle.

I’ll link Prosource Fit below in case any of you out there are looking to add to your home gym.  It is an affiliate link so if you click and then buy something from them I may receive a small commission, which goes to support this channel. Even if you don’t click the link, I highly recommend checking them out.  Everything I’ve gotten from them has been quality and reasonably priced. Sometimes getting those to lines to intersect isn’t easy, and with work out gear, quality matters. Stay safe out there, or in there as the case may be.

Weight loss Regime Survival Tip #1: Cheap Cotton T-shirts

When I first started to exercise, I decided to use the t-shirts I already had and was comfortable wearing. The problem with this plan is simple, sweat. No matter how good your deodorant, no matter how often you do laundry or how fabulous your detergent is, routine sweat will take its toll on cloth. Even if all of the sweat stains wash out, the act of washing them out will leave a mark. For me the neck line was especially bad and very quickly took my existing t-shirts from comfortably worn to worn out. Your shirts will begin to look worn out and raggety and you will very quickly not want to wear them anywhere except places you plan to sweat.

In addition, I find it helpful to have separate work out clothes that I don’t wear anywhere else. It helps me shift my mind set. Lets face it, I am not one of nature’s natural born gym rats. I don’t like to sweat and I don’t really enjoy working out. I realize it is necessary, but it is not my happy place. Having clothes I don’t have to look at unless I plan to torture myself with exercise makes me feel better.

When you run out to the store to buy a pack of the cheap cotton t-shirts I would also advise a pack of cheap cotton panties make their way into your cart. No one has to see them and you can keep them with your other gym clothes. They will go from the drawer to your butt to the gym and then to the laundry. This is their life cycle and trust me they do not need to look sexy. Which is a definite plus since they too will take a beating. The cloth will very rapidly look worn and the elastic will wear out…fast. At some point they will reach the stage where you realize that your mother would be mortified if the EMTs had to see them if you happened to get into a car wreck. When you reach the mother mortification stage, throw them away and get another cheap pack.

Save the good underwear for after the post workout shower.
