The Daily: August 9th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. The sun is out, the humidity is high and I am feeling a little bit better today. Well the sniffles still drag on but the headache has abated and this morning my latest test came up negative. Which means I am only dealing with the aftereffects. And hoping they will go away.

I’m afraid that doesn’t translate into much of an exciting day. I thought about a walk and then thought about how wobbly my legs felt and how i didn’t want to be the person collapsed in the heat. there also might have been the irrational fear of being eaten by squirrels. I know they don’t actually eat people but they seem to be swarming in mass numbers in the park this year. either the population swelled or there is a squirrel King consolidating his kingdom. The numbers are kind of out of control.

That and when i pass by they don’t scamper off any more. They sort of stop and stare at me as though wondering why I am passing through their domain and possibly wondering if I have the right permits.

Other than that my day has been spent quietly at my desk catching up on everything that happened last week. I may have been at my desk the beginning part of the week but that really means absolutely nothing. Pretty much anything I did at the start of the week has had to be re done. So let that be a lesson for you if you are trying to power through an illness while working, sometimes the work you do just isn’t worth you being there. Take the sick day. You may have to race to catch up but you won’t be going back to redo things you thought were done prior. I know, it is advice easier to give than to take.

Bronzer: Illamasqua Sculpting Gel Stick

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism

Eyeshadow Primer: Sandbar Beauty Eyeshadow Primer

Brows: iMethod Eyebrow Stamp and Stencil Kit

Mascara: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Lips M2U NYC Beauty Matte Liquid Lip

Today I felt better and bundled my hair up onto my head to keep it clear. I thought about earrings but then forgot. The shadows are a bit strange in this one but I am very pleased with how things came out. Admittedly i think i still look tired, but maybe that’s just because I feel that way. Today I used the Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas because i like it and saw it and wanted to use it. The Charlotte Tilbury was a deliberate choice though. I chose it because I like the foundation but I wanted a full heavier foundation to try out the sculpting gel stick on. While yesterday was a full foundation it was a serum one and they are a bit more forgiving. This is a full on cream foundation. It applies well, covers a host of redness and blemishes, wears well and feels light.

It does require both a brush and the final smoothing touch of the makeup sponge to remover lines but if you have a lot of redness this will take it down. It is a good foundation if you know you are going to be spending some time taking a lot of photos. I find I do need to blot after a few hours, but it will stay in place if you are attending a wedding or funeral or other family gathering.

The Illamasqua gel stick didn’t like it. While it blends beautifully with every other lighter face product i used, it didn’t blend as well with a full on cream foundation like this one. while the shadows do exaggerate it a bit you can still see the line in the photos (I took the pic and then worked more on blending it out with my foundation brush so I didn’t look too crazy. but this is what a normal level of blending did.) So I think this stick works better with lighter foundation products.

The bae minerals blush was fantastic. It always is but after fiddling so much with the contour I found its ease of use extra fabulous. It is one of my favorite blushes.

I actually went for the brows today and I am pretty pleased with the way they turned out. I am in love with this stencil. It has earned a permanent place in my makeup bag. even if I trade out pomade I will keep these stencils and the stamping tool. I actually want to get a back up of the tool as it is so useful.

I only sneezed once with the mascara so it was relatively painless and I do like Eyeko. I set aside the new mascara to try in a few days when I can give it an honest evaluation. I know and like how Eyeko works so I used it today.

I also know and love the M2U lipstick. It dries down fast without during my lips to dust and it stays in place. This tube is almost at it’s end so a new on needs to be ordered soon. Perhaps that will be this weekend. After an lipstick declutter.

Which of course brings us to the palette. I used the lid primer again today and the Lunar Beauty Shadows did work better with it. i still had to do a bit of work to get them to do what i wanted. To be honest though, I am not sure it is worth it. I have all of these shades in different palettes in much easier to use forms. These tend to be powdery and just okay looking after you put the work in. I like the look of the palette, but honestly I don’t know how much I am going to reach for it once i have finished testing it out.

And so my darlings that is my look today. It isn’t out there crazy as I was mostly looking at shadow and bronzer bendability. I did remind myself of how much i do like the charlotte Tilbury Foundation though, so that is something. And now it is back to work for me. Have a great one, whatever it is you plan to do.

Its that old Black Magic…With Eyeko

Eyeko London is one of those brands that I tend to think of in terms of one product. I know that sounds silly, but for the longest time they were my go to for eyeliner. I love their Skinny eyeliner and their fat eyeliner and of course their regular eyeliner.

They make fantastic eyeliner. And so as soon as i hear the name Eyeko, my brain thinks eyeliner. However, they also make other things. One of those things is mascara. I’ve been using the Eyeko Black Magic Mascara recently and I have to say it has been very impressive. And not just because of the length.

According to the site…

Designed for after-hours volume, this mascara combines drama and curl with our darkest black finish to intensify your lashes. The curvaceous brush mimics the lash line shape for 90-degree curl, and the keratin and shea butter-enhanced formula keeps lashes feeling conditioned, supple and defined.

On the lashes it gives the length and curl that i want. I also had no trouble with any sort of flaking away and the lashes feel soft instead of stiff and heavy. It is rare that i can look at a products list of claims and go down the list and just check them off as Yes, it does exactly that. But with the Black Magic Mascara I could. And to that list I can add that if you apply it and give it a second to dry, there is also no problem with smudging.

mascara on

I really like the curve of the wand as it follows the natural bend of the lashes and coats every single lash for a fuller look.

The only place this mascara falls down is on the lower lashes. The curve that makes it so fantastic on the upper lashes makes it kind of awkward on the lower lashes. Finding the right way to turn the wand was difficult and in the end I just didn’t put mascara on the lower lashes while i used it.

And I am okay with that.

curved wand

In the end, fabulous mascara for the top lashes but skip it for the lower lashes. I enjoyed using this mascara and I am sure I will be picking it up again. I will also remember that Eyeko isn’t just for eyeliner any more.

The Daily: June 14th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope everyone is having a fabulous Monday. For me this week is all about getting back on track and losing the massive amount of stress I’ve been carrying around for the past few weeks. Everything seems to have settled down and the details are known so there are no pending nightmare scenarios.

Which is kind of a relief.

and this week I can actually focus on myself again.

Which sounds a little strange to say, but as soon as anything major comes along anything that I am doing just for me is the first thing that gets jettisoned from the schedule. It is just the way life works. But now that everyone is sorted I can be a little more selfish with my time.

Which again isn’t a bad thing. When working on your health it is okay to be selfish. And while you are doing it for yourself, you are in a way doing it for those you love too. If that helps you feel a little less selfish. And yes I struggle with feeling guilty for taking tome out of the day just to work on me. It is something I struggle with.

But you didn’t come here for my personal therapy. Or at least I didn’t anticipate giving it.

Today I hit the gym and while it will never be my happy place, it did feel good to get back into the routine bright and early Monday morning. In addition I went on a walk. I went early and I sweated like I was melting. while I did use my Volition Prismatic Sunscreen on my face, when I sprayed down my arms leg and neck with the Neutrogena Beach defense spray sunscreen I went ahead and gave my face an extra coating. This turned out to be a bad idea. The Neutrogena may do well with sea spray, but it didn’t do well with the sweat. It dripped into my eyes while I walked and stung. it wasn’t damaging but it wasn’t pleasant.

So note to self: Don’t use the Neutrogena on the face when spraying down for a sweaty walk.

Otherwise it is a nice light sunscreen.

For the arms and legs. Not near the eyes.

But the remains were washed away in the shower and we moved on.

Foundation: Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation

Bronzer: Tarte’s Park Ave Princess Contour palette (I also used this as my eyeshadow today)

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

  • 25% off Friends and Family Sale with the code: BAREBFF

Highlighter: Wander Beauty Wanderess Glow

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Mascara: Fenty Beauty Full Frontal Mascara

Eyeliner: Eyeko London Fat eyeliner

Lips: Dr. Lipp Red Radish Tint

Setting Spray: MAC Fix +

Today I picked up the Tom Ford Foundation to use. I really like the light weight feel of it and the way it looks on my skin. It does have the tendency to settle into the lines around my mouth by the end of the day, but only a little bit. To fight it, I just need a pore filling primer. Once the pore filling primer is in place there are no issues with settling. So the primer I chose was the ELF poreless Putty Primer. It worked fantastically well. I use my bronzer palette for both my bronzer and my eyes today, mostly because there are shades in the bronzer/contour palette I am never going to use on my cheeks and I wanted to keep things simple as I played with the mascara and eyeliner.

With the eyeliner I mostly wanted to make certain it hadn’t dried out. I don’t wear a lot of eyeliner but when I do I tend to reach for the Eyeko liners. They always create a smooth line with no skipping and don’t fade throughout the day. For eyeliners they have been my standard for a really long time.

To be honest it was all about the mascara today. I saw that IPSY announced their August Glam Bag X for August. As I am still on the fence about that category I took a look through the newly released details. The Collaborator this time will be Halsey which I am happy with and the two products listed as possibilities in the bag are the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer and the Fenty Beauty Full Frontal Mascara. Ive used Tatcha Skincare before and absolutely love their cleanser, but I haven’t tried any makeup from them and as you know I love primers I am thrilled to have a chance to try it out. The Fenty Beauty Full Frontal Mascara I have so I went ahead and pulled it to use today.

It is a decent mascara but not a fabulous one. I found I had to build it up with a couple of layers. But it didn’t smudge once it dried and there was no flaking. For me it falls into the ‘happy to use if I have it, but probably wouldn’t go out and buy it’. Which is fine. If I ended up getting it, I would use it. I am more excited about the primer though, but then I am almost always going to be more excited about the primer.

This was my first use of the Dr. Lip Tint which came in my Look Fantastic Box this month. It goes on smoothly and oddly isn’t as thick as the regula Dr. Lipp balm, which I actually like. The original can be a bit intense. The tint is very light and fades away quickly but the shine tends to remain longer and my lips felt really nourished after wearing it.

Likewise this was my first use of the MAC Fix + Setting Spray. I originally planned to use it, see how I liked it and then add it to my travel bag if it worked well. I think a few days of use will deplete it completely so I will just use it all week and then decide about it. Thus far I rather like the formula. I’ll let you know how I feel when the little spay bottle is empty.

And that was more or less it for me. A back to normal schedule and a lot less stress. I have the feeling this is the start to a really good week.
