A different sort of Line up for the Skin: September 22nd, 2022

if you are looking at the picture above and thinking, that seems like there are some duplicates, you aren’t wrong. in the above photo I have the products I have been using and I also have the products that will be going with me when I leave tomorrow morning. Tonight i will use the products going with me and if there are no issues they will be packed and taken for two weeks at my mother’s house. Currently in rotation Are…

Cleanser: Avant Blue Volcanic Stone Purifying and Antioxidizing Cleansing Gel

Toner: Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner from First Aid Beauty

Serum: 35% Vitamin C Perfecting Serum from Allies of Skin

Eye cream: Kat Burki Nutrient C Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Volition Yaupon Tea Glow Awakening Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask

while there is probably over a week’s worth of cleanser in the Avant, there probably isn’t two weeks worth and I don’t want to pack two cleansers. So I will be taking the Alpha H Balancing cleanser with me. I wanted to try it out and I have two other Alpha H products to try so they will be going with me. One I know I like (the Liquid Gold Toner) and one I haven’t tried. But I will get to that below.

The FAB toner won’t be going with me because there is very little product left and it is a big bottle. As the Alpha H toner can only be used every other day, I have added in the travel sized bottle of the Byroe Toning essence. I’ve use it before and it is both a fantastic toner and a great essence. I will use it on the days I am not using the exfoliating toner.

I did pack a physical exfoliator as I really like exfoliating once a week. I am taking a travel size of the ESPA Refining Skin Polish because I have used it before and absolutely love it. I am sticking with the allies of skin serum since it has a locking pump and I am keeping the Volition moisturizer in the travel line up. This week i did use the Elemis Super Food Midnight Facial a few nights and it really worked well with the volition to give my skin the moisture it needed so i will be keeping them paired up for the trip. As I felt I had enough glass bottles and jars I traded out the eye cream for a tube of the Alpha H eye cream. It not only goes along with the other AlphaH products but it is a smaller tube.

Over all I was rather pleased with the products I used this week and I am happy with the ones going with me on the trip. While I am gone, there will be no skincare updates so tonight I will make sure there are no skincare reactions and then I will report back on the skincare in motion once I return from my trip.

Traveling with me are…

Cleanser: Alpha H Balancing Cleanser with Aloe Vera

Toner: Alpha H Liquid Gold and Byroe Bitter Greens Toning Essence

Serum: 35% Vitamin C Perfecting Serum from Allies of Skin

Eye cream: Alpha H Liquid Gold Firming Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Volition Yaupon Tea Glow Awakening Moisturizer

Night Mask: Elemis Superfood Midnight Facial

Exfoliator: ESPA Refining Skin Polish

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask

And so my darlings, those are the products I will be taking with me. I look forward to putting them to the test and reporting back about how well they worked and how well they traveled. I also can’t wait to tell you all about it when I return. Until then…

The Skincare Line up: September 16th, 2022

That’s right it is time for my favorite post, the weekly skincare line up. This week there were a few changes.

Cleanser: Avant Blue Volcanic Stone Purifying and Antioxidizing Cleansing Gel

Toner: Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner from First Aid Beauty

Serum: 35% Vitamin C Perfecting Serum from Allies of Skin

Eye cream: Kat Burki Nutrient C Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Volition Yaupon Tea Glow Awakening Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask

Okay let’s talk about those products that have been in motion for a while. First the Kissu mask from Tatcha. My lips love it and continue to love it. I adore wearing it to bed at night and I enjoy the light scent of it. It is a keeper in the line up and as so little is used each time i use it, this little jar is sticking around a while.

The First aid beauty toner is fine. It is an oat based toner and works well especially after a day in the sun. I like it and wouldn’t mind using it again but it isn’t on my repurchase list.

while I have had one clogged pore under the eyes with the Kat Burki eye cream I haven’t had another one so I don’t think it is a problem. The cream absorbs well and it has a light fresh scent.

the Avant cleanser doesn’t have as light of a scent as I thought it had for the first week. I think it was just lighter than the previous cleanser. There is something about the scent that i find vaguely cloying. Not enough to make me stop using it, but I don’t think i would buy this again. Well to be honest as the cleanser costs $110 I doubted I would be buying it again in any case, but a part of me hoped it would be knock me out of my socks fantastic. I actually tried a lip balm from Avant that was that good and (almost) made me think it might be worth the price. A part of me hoped this cleanser would be the same. It is not. It is good, but not fabulous. And certainly not $110 fabulous. It would be good for $35, great for $25. There is nothing wrong with it in other words, it just isn’t good enough to justify the cost.

There were two new products this week. The first was the Allies of skin Vitamin C serum. The Depology serum did last until yesterday morning so last night and this morning I used this serum. I love the glass bottle and I really do like the fact that the pump locks down. I had several serums to choose from and I did choose this one primarily because the pump could be locked. Next Friday I am leaving town and if I was starting a serum I wanted one I could take with me. with the locking pump, I can take this one with me.

I found it interesting. You have to shake well before each use. The serum is listed as having a waterless base so my guess is that it separates as it sits. It comes out looking and feeling like an oil. it is a dry feeling oil but it will leave you shiny until it absorbs. once it absorbs there is no shiny factor or greasy look. There is a slightly citrus note to the serum. while two uses isn’t enough to give any kind of detailed notes, I did like how it felt on my skin. It also seemed to pair well with the moisturizer.

The moisturizer is a Volition moisturizer. I have tried Volition products before. Their sunscreen is one I stock up to use consistently. I use it year round, but they generally have sales both in the spring and over the Black Friday shopping season so I tend to buy six month’s worth at a time. (each tube will give me about a month and a half’s worth of product plus a little bit extra so it is four tubes each sale if you are doing the math. It is well worth it.). I also enjoy their snow mushroom serum. This is my first use with the Yaupon Tea Moisturizer.

Yaupon is a type of holly native to southeastern North America (Yes i had to look it up). There is a light, almost floral note to the cream but it is one of those scents that if you stick your nose in the jar and inhale it seems strong but the scent dissipates very quickly. It almost reminds me of jasmine tea actually. mostly it just has that skincare cream scent. which i am fine with. The cream is a light one that is almost a water cream but not quite. When applied to the skin it does go sort of liquid-y as though it was melting into water. It absorbed well because of the consistency and I found it to be a good light cream. I am somewhat let down by it at night. It is a great day cream but I think that a few times a week I am going to have to roll in some form of night mask. I actually don’t mind that. i am perfectly fine with having a separate day cream and night cream. And I think the Volition is, for me, a really good day cream. it just needs a little help at night.

And that is my line up this week. At the moment things seem to be rolling right along. I am happy to keep this line up for the coming week.

The Skincare Line Up: September 9th, 2022

It is time once again for the weekly skincare line up. Here slowly but surely i work my way through products in my routine. For me I find this sort of thing exciting. I like the first use posts because there are interesting first impressions and of course I like the end of use posts where we see if there are any actual results, but I really find the in progress line up to be the most fun. Not only do I get to think about an array of skincare, but i get to think of it working in conjunction with other skincare. Does this product work better if I incorporate a facial oil into the routine or if I leave it out. Does this take longer to absorb and thus better left for evening use when I have more time in my skincare regimen than I do when i am racing to get my day started? These are the sorts of thigs I really do find interesting to know. So let’s see what we see with this week’s line up.

Cleanser: Avant Blue Volcanic Stone Purifying and Antioxidizing Cleansing Gel

Toner: Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner from First Aid Beauty

Serum: Depology Matrixyl 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum

Eye cream: Kat Burki Nutrient C Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Korres Santorini Grape Poreless skin cream

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask

This week there is only one new product but we have two products that are reaching the end of their life. This week I started the Avant Gel Cleanser. Avant is known for having both extremely long names on their products and for being rather expensive. This cleanser for example is listed at $110. which in my opinion is far too much to pay for a cleanser. All of the Avant products I have tried have come to me via subscription box. Which I like because while I love trying new products and in all honesty don’t mind spending money for good skincare, I am not going to spend a lot of money for something I haven’t tried before. Which is partially why I love samples. The reason is because skincare can be very subjective. Some products that work well for someone else’s skin type can work less well for you. I’ve also moved a lot in my life and to be honest there are some products that I’ve used in some places that simply don’t work with my skin when i moved to a different area.

that being said, this week i tried the Avant cleanser. It is a gel cleanser and it has a light fresh scent. I have to say that is actually just a pleasant relief. While my skin worked well with the BFF cleanser, the highly perfumed scent was starting to get to me. By contrast this was light and fresh. It is slightly on the perfumed side, but it is far lighter in scent and it leans into the clean scents rather than floral ones. It will be interesting to see if i continue to think it is light and fresh as the use goes on. Mostly because it is kind of on the edge and I think I might be giving it a bit of a pass since it has less of a scent than the Bff. Beyond that it is a nice, decent cleanser. It doesn’t seem to be doing anything spectacular. But it also doesn’t seem to be doing any wrong either. Again this will be interesting to watch as time progresses.

The First Aid Beauty toner is still working well. it is a good toner. I don;t mind using it and wouldn’t mind using it again. It isn’t one that I will feel the need to repurchase, but there is nothing wrong with it.

The Kat Burki eye cream is interesting. This week I had one clogged pore in my under eye area (left eye). i did some spot masking to draw it out and it cleared out well. I have had no other issues with my under eyes (and they are prone to clogged pores) so it may or may not be related to the eye cream. It is thus far the only one so I will watch it as time continues.

The Depology Serum has just completed it’s fourth week of use (the full review post will go up next week.) and I have to say i really liked this serum. it absorbed well and I can really feel a difference in my skin tone. My skin feels soft and hydrated with an improvement in texture. I will continue using this serum in the coming week. I don’t know how far into the week the serum will take me but i will be using every last drop. It will also be repurchased down the road.

The moisturizer I have been using is also reaching the end of the line. I will be able to use the last of it tonight and then I will need to roll in a new moisturizer. In general I enjoy Korres products and while I can’t say that i saw a reduction in my pore size throughout the use of this cream, I can say that it was the perfect level of moisture for my skin at this time of year. It wasn’t too heavy and it wasn’t too light. I used a little more at night than i did in the day, which is fairly typical for me. This summer it has been rather difficult to find moisturizers that weren’t too heavy for day time use, but this worked out well. It is a light cream and absorbed well. It did take a little longer to absorb in the mornings than I liked, but part of that might have been the humidity. There were very few days this summer where the humidity dripped below 80%. That this one took a little longer to absorb but didn’t just slide right off, was quite impressive.

And then finally we had the Fantastic Tatcha Lip mask. While only a little is used at a time, the mask is starting to show a dip in the center. I still think it will last quite a while, which i am pleased by. It is a fantastic lip mask to wear to bed and let absorb over night. I would happily repurchase it, but i am just as happy to have it last a long time before i di need to repurchase it.

And that my darlings was my skincare for the week. there was only one new addition, but next week, there will be two new products to join the line. I can’t wait to see how they perform.

Korres Greek Natural Beauty

The Skincare Line Up: September 2nd, 2022

Welcome once again to one of my favorite posts of the week. It is time for the skincare line up. Her I get to talk a little bit about each product and how it is working out on my skin, not only on it’s own but in conjunction with the other products in the line up. So let’s see what products we have in motion shall we?

Cleanser: Best Face Forward (BFF) Purifying Cleanser

Toner: Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner from First Aid Beauty

Serum: Depology Matrixyl 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum

Eye cream: Kat Burki Nutrient C Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Korres Santorini Grape Poreless skin cream

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask

This week I did finish up the Wander Beauty Glow oil that I had open last week. It was a great oil and one I will be ordering again. I had it in use partially because of the cleanser. The BFF cleanser is designed for skin prone to break outs. I had some problems with break outs when I opened the cleanser and while it was handy to have, and took care of my break outs, I have combination skin so the cleanser helped the breakouts and the oil, applied mostly to my dry spots helped them out. I didn’t add in an oil because this morning I used up the last of this BFF cleanser. So I will be switching to a non-salicylic acid based cleanser.

As for the BFF cleanser. It worked well and was gentle on the skin. The part I didn’t care for was that it is pretty heavily fragranced. It is far too perfume-y for me. while I don’t mind scent in my skincare, with cleansers I am a little picky. i want them to smell clean and if the fragrance is to strong it can make me feel like my skin is not as clean as it really is. I like knowing that I could use this when my skin is breaking out and that it works well, but I would only purchase it for that specific reason because of the scent.

The wild Oat Toner is going strong. It still has plenty of product for the moment. It is a good toner and feels nice after too much time in the sun. It isn’t my favorite toner though and once it is used up I probably wouldn’t use it again.

I am loving the Depology serum and I think I am starting to see small improvements in the fine lines around my eyes and mouth. This is the end of week three so the signs are minimal, but even if I am mistaken, this serum does make my skin feel really good. It is a fast absorbing serum that hydrates well and leaves my skin soft. It is a little sticky before it absorbs fully in but once it does it looses all stickiness and just feels great on the skin.

This was the first full week for the eye cream. I rolled it into the line up at the end of last week. Thus far it is performing well. It isn’t greasy and it hasn’t clogged any of the pores around my eyes. They are prone to bumpy clogs so that is nice. I also like the fresh clean sent of the product. it just has that clean skin care scent to it. I have no other name for it. We’ll see how it performs over time. And since it is a pretty big bottle i will have plenty of time with it. the trick seems to be not dispensing too much with the pump since only a little product is actually needed. thus far, I like it.

I am almost at the end of the Korres Poreless moisturizer. I have really enjoyed it. It is light weight and was perfect for the summer heat. I did end up using more at night than I did during the day. But i didn’t actually need a night cream. I think in the future though I would probably use this as a day cream and use something heavier at night.

And then finally there is the Tatcha Lip mask. So little is needed that it will last a while and I really enjoy the light scent and the way it melts into the lips over night. It is a definite winner that will be used until there is not a drop left and then repurchased.

And so my darlings that was my skincare line up for the week. Tonight I will have to pick out a new cleanser to try I think I have enough of the Korres to make it through this week, but I suspect by next Friday there will be a new moisturizer joining the line up as well. And yes, I am excited about going into the skincare drawer and seeing what products I can try next. I know a small thing to be excited about but i do get excited selecting the items to try.

The Skincare Line Up: August 26th, 2022

Once again it is time for my favorite post of the week, the skincare line up. This week we have one new item, a couple of items facing down their last week and a few who are still rolling on. Shall we take a loom at them?

Cleanser: Best Face Forward (BFF) Purifying Cleanser

Toner: Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner from First Aid Beauty

Serum: Depology Matrixyl 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum

Facial Oil: Wander Beauty Glow Ahead Illuminationg Facial Oil

Eye cream: Kat Burki Nutrient C Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Korres Santorini Grape Poreless skin cream

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask

I brought the BFF cleanser into the line up when I was having some skin issues and it really helped. while it isn’t causing any major drying issues, I can feel the drier parts of my face beginning to not be as happy with this cleanser as my skin was before. I only have about a week’s worth of product left and if I continue to pair it with the Wander Beauty Glow Ahead oil I should be fine. For me this is a cleanser that works well when I am breaking out and isn’t too drying, but really should be set aside once my skin has stopped breaking out. Which is good to know. Many cleansers designed to help break outs I can only use one or two days in a row before my skin starts to get flaky dry patches. this Has been less damaging than most and I will put it on a list to be ordered next time I do have need of a break out friendly cleanser. At this point in my life though that isn’t all that often. I generally have problems after I’ve been sick or around the holidays when my skin reacts to over indulgence. But I do like knowing what cleanser to call.

The Facial oil has been key I think to helping balance out which parts need more moisture. I concentrated the facial oil on my traditionally drier spots and blended out which really helps me. I really like this oil in general as it gives my skin a nice glow without clogging pores. It just did doubly duty paired with the cleanser.

The toner is nice and I will use it until it is gone, but I probably won’t buy it again. It feels good in the summer months but to be honest I haven’t seen it work better than my usual toners. And I kind of miss my Thayers with it’s which hazel.

The Depology Matrixyl 300 Collagen Boosting serum is something that my skin really loves. It smooths on well and absorbs easily. I do have to make sure my skin is dry or it will foam a little on the skin and feel momentarily slightly soapy (it goes away as it absorbs but still makes me think I missed rinsing off my cleanser). I have noticed an improvement in the texture of my skin as I have worn it. There is still plenty of serum to go and I will happily continue this trial.

The Korres Moisturizer is getting low in the jar, but it is a moisturizer I will pick up again. It has been a really good summer weight moisturizer. In general I like Korres products as my skin usually reacts really well to this. I can’t say I’ve seen a major reduction in my pores, but I can tell there are fewer clogged pores and my skin feels fantastically hydrated.

The Tatcha Lip mask is a permanent favorite. I love using it and will happily repurchase repeatedly.

This week’s new to the line up product is the Kat Burki eye cream I rolled it in Thursday morning so it is very new to the line up. It has a gel moisturizer like texture and a light fresh skincare scent. I love the glass bottle and the pump. It absorbs well and in the last day it seems to work well with my skin. I will keep an eye on it as I move forward, but it looks like it is going to be a good product.

And that my darlings is this week’s skincare. In the coming week I will finish out the cleanser and possibly the facial oil. I think I’ll have another week with the Korres and another two with the serum. Which for me is the perfect spacing for products. I like to space out the new arrivals so that I can monitor the effects on my skin and determine what product is doing what and make sure to deal with any interaction issues. So for me, things are rolling ahead nicely.

The Skincare Lineup: August 19th, 2022

And so another week has gone by. My skin is much less freaked out not that I am not trying to recover from the freeze/thaw cycle. I kept the same line up from last week though, I am going to start adjusting soon. For one thing, My eye cream is almost empty and a new one will be needed. But first let’s look at the products in motion.

Cleanser: Best Face Forward (BFF) Purifying Cleanser

Toner: Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner from First Aid Beauty

Serum: Depology Matrixyl 3000 Collagen Boosting Serum

Facial Oil: Wander Beauty Glow Ahead Illuminationg Facial Oil

Eye cream: Verso Eye Cream #5 Extra Nourishing

Moisturizer: Korres Santorini Grape Poreless skin cream

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask

The purifying cleanser was very interesting this week. I did a full post about it which you can read here if you are interested. The basic summation is that it works well but as my nose if finally working again I realized it has quite the perfumed smell to it. I am not enjoying that aspect. I have about two weeks left of product in the tube so I will be using it up, but as nice as it is the scent makes me not want to repurchase.

The wild oat toner is fine. It is gentle on the skin. I find I miss the witch hazel of my usual toners and while I wouldn’t object to using this one again, i am not certain I would seek it out. The main reason being simply that I have other toners I like better. Most of them have witch hazel in them. It is a good toner though, just not something on my must buy list.

I am really liking the Depology Serum though. My skin soaks it up like a sponge and I think I am seeing some improvement in the fine lines. It is still early days with the serum but My skin feels soft and hydrated and there is no delay waiting for it to absorb. It sinks in quickly and I can continue with the rest of my skin care.

I do like the extra layer of moisture the Facial oil provides. Plus I like the little bit of glow I seem to be getting from the Wander Beauty Oil. I think it is helping to balance out the salicylic acid in the cleanser as well so that nothing is dried out. I do concentrate my oil use on the parts of my skin where I tend to get drier patches. And that seems to help.

The verso eye cream alas is no more. I thought I had an extra sample size socked away but alas I do not. I really like the brand Verso in general. I have tried several products from them and I have never had a problem with any of them. When their products are good they are excellent. when they are not so good they are still better than average. Which is not a bad thing to say about a brand. if I don’t like it, then the product is probably targeted for an issue I don’t have. I think I tried something from them (a moisturizer) designed for really dry skin and while it was too much moisture for me, I still used it as a night mask every couple of nights and it worked out really well.

Speaking of moisturizers, the Korres moisturizer is still working out well for me. I use a little less in the day time than I use at night and that seems to be the right level of moisture. I really like that the scent is slightly grape mixed with skincare. It is an odd scent for skincare but I really like it. The scent is stronger in the jar than it is applied to the skin and fades fast. I think I have about two weeks left of product in the jar and I will happily continue using it. I will also consider repurchasing it. I’m not entirely certain it is doing much pore reduction, but it hasn’t caused any break outs and has helped tame the ones I had. It is a moisturizer that I really enjoy using.

I also enjoy using the Kissu Lip mask from Tatcha. I think I will be using that for a long time. I love it, it works well and so little is needed that the small jar will last a good long time. I really like a pre makeup application to get my lips hydrated before I put on any lipstick and it is also fantastic as an over night lip mask. The amount differs and I put on slightly more for the overnight use. In the morning it is absorbed where as pre lipstick i wipe whatever hasn’t soaked in away (which usually isn’t much). As I tend to pick at my lips when they are dry, keeping them hydrated is a big thing for me.

And so my darlings that is my skin care for the week. The products are the same as last week. Next week I will have a new eye cream rolled in but everything else is still in motion. I think I have one more week of the Wander Beauty oil (it was not an unopened tube when I brought it into the line up and I hit it hard post exfoliation binge. It will also not be my last tube. In fact I think I have an unopened one in my skincare drawer. I will try to delay reaching for it until after I have tried out some of the other oils waiting testing). So one week left on the oil and two weeks left on the cleanser, serum and moisturizer. And so we continue forward and hope for fabulous results. Have a great Friday everyone.

Korres Greek Natural Beauty

The Skincare Line up: July 16th, 2021

Good morning and welcome once again to the weekly skincare line up. Here I line up all of the products I used this week and give you some brief thoughts about how i feel about them. It’s not an in depth review but just a little bit of a progress report. So let’s dive in shall we?

Daytime Skin Care

Deodorant: Native Powder and Cotton Deodorant

Cleanser: Korres Foaming Cream Cleanser Pre + Probiotics Greek Yoghurt

Toner: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

  • Currently on sale for 40% off

Serum: Whal Myung Anti-Oxidant Rejuvenating Serum (finished on Thursday morning) and Byroe Bell Pepper Serum

Eye Cream: Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Revive Mask

Moisturizer: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Oil Control Moisturizer (finished Thursday night) and Air Repair Moisturizer

Eye Serum: Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum (product gifted by Influenster)

Sunscreen: Volition Prismatic Luminizing Shield in SPF 50

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Most of the elements this week remained the same. Actually all of the repeat items are working beautifully. The Whal Myung Anti-Oxident Serum was a sample size and I did finish it out this week. It felt very good on the skin, light and refreshing, but with only just under two weeks with the product there were no visible results so i have to go on non-result based opinion with this one. To be honest as good as it felt, it smelled quite perfume-y. There are some perfumy products that I’ve used where i have gotten past the scent and enjoyed using. I don’t think this is the sort of scent i can really move past. i don’t enjoy it and I think that if I were to buy a full sized bottle I would slowly stop using it because of the scent. And that would be wasteful. So I am going to just appreciate the chance to try it out and then send it to the empties bin with no plans to repurchase.

The Byroe Bell Pepper Serum I picked up from my skin care drawer simply because I was in a hurry. I need to look into what it is supposed to do. For the moment it feels nice on the skin and has almost no scent to it. Which is kind of nice after the Whal Myung. I’ve only used it twice at the point so there isn’t much else to say. Next week I’ll have a better handle on how it performs as well as what to expect (I’ll be looking that up later today.)

The other change was the First aid Beauty Moisturizer. It was a fantastic product and one I will repurchase. I had a couple of more weeks left in the jar, however I accidentally forgot to screw the lid on tight enough and it accidentally got knocked over and was left to drip out of the jar creating quite a mess as no one caught it before most of it was gone. I was not happy and have to bear at least 50% off the blame since i did not tighten the lid properly. As I am not the one who knocked over the jar, I’ll give the other 50% to someone else. However it was a very good lesson in double checking the lids before leaving the bathroom.

It was a very good summertime moisturizer for me.

I have brought in a tube of the Air Repair moisturizer. A while ago I tried a sample and thought it was okay. I remember being on the fence about whether I wanted to buy a full size or not and then I ended up with a full size in a subscription box. So now I get to try it out. I’ll admit, I partially chose it because it is in a tube and not a jar. Hence, no spillage. This morning was my first use of the tube. It is thicker than I thought it would be and I am still getting used to the switch from the lighter gel cream. I’m sure I;ll have deeper thoughts for you next week, but for now that is about it.

Everything else is chugging along. The Time Revolution essence is still fantastic after too much sun. I did realize this week that it is not a toning essence though. Which you would think would be obvious. However my last essence was a toning essence so I opted out of adding a toner to my skin care routine while using it. This coming week i will be pulling one of my toners into the line up.

In addition i noticed that I have more cleanser samples than I thought so I might be pausing my Korres and trying them out, just to clear out some of the samples and decide what I want to think about repurchasing. Many of the samples have less than a week’s worth of product in them so i figure I can use the sample and then fill in with the Korres. That way I can clear out a few of the sample sizes as my sample box is now overflowing.

But that seems to be all for the day time products, shall we peep into the night?

Nighttime Skin Care

Makeup Remover: Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

Cleanser: Korres Foaming Cream Cleanser Pre + Probiotics Greek Yoghurt

Toner: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Eye Cream: Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Revive Mask

Moisturizer: Air Repair moisturizer

Eye Serum: Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum (gifted by Influenster)

Lips: Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask (in Maple), no lip scrub

Night Mask: Wander Beauty Do Not Disturb Overnight repair serum

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Twice weekly: Ole Henriksen’s Phat Glow Facial

As in the day time, the moisturizer and serum changed. but the only real difference has been the addition of the Ole Henriksen Phat Glow Facial to th line up. I am currently using it twice a week to see how it works. Thus far I have noticed a little sun sensitivity on the morning after I use the mask. It isn’t a lot of sensitivity, but it is noticeable to me. Admittedly this week i spent a lot of time in the sun, which could have played an additional role. In the upcoming week there will be less in the sun time so I’ll see how that effects things. My skin is soft and the stress blemishes I had from earlier summer events are fading and being cleared away without scarring, which is nice. The pump is kind of driving me a bit crazy though. I think because it is such a thick formula the pump is not happy about pumping the mask out. But other than that I really like the product. I will be monitoring the sun but I am happy to continue using this.

You may notice one extra addition in the lineup that doesn’t match the description. And that is the cleansing balm. I have been using the Elemis Cleansing Balm (one of my all time favorites). I used the last of the product in the jar last night and so replaced the empty with the brand new Peach Pudding Cleanser that I just ordered from Peach and Lily. It hasn’t been opened, but I moved it into place in anticipation of this evening.

Everything else in the list is still performing beautifully. I know that doesn’t make for a very exciting post, but it is good for my skin. And next week there will be more details on the newer products as well as some new trials rolled into the line up. But for now, my skin is quite happy with the products used.

The Skincare Line Up: July 9th, 2021

The Full Line up, July 9th, 2021

Good morning my darlings and welcome to the weekly Skincare lineup.  This isn’t an in depth review but more of a recap of what I am currently using and how I am feeling about it as I go through. There were a lot of good products this week. Most have been in the line up a while and will soon be changed out or used up, but there were a few shakeups. There will be a new edition starting this afternoon. I am trying a Peter Thomas Roth Mask out for Face Mask Friday today and if it goes well it will be used twice a week to see if there are longer term results. But that is for later. Now we need to look at this past week.

The day time line up

Daytime Skin Care

Deodorant: Native Powder and Cotton Deodorant

Cleanser: Korres Foaming Cream Cleanser Pre + Probiotics Greek Yoghurt

Toner: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

  • Currently on sale for 40% off (in fact a lot of items are on sale right now if you are interested in the brand or Korean Skincare in general)

Serum: Whal Myung Anti-Oxidant Rejuvenating Serum

Eye Cream: Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Revive Mask

Moisturizer: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Oil Control Moisturizer

Eye Serum: Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum (product gifted by Influenster)

Sunscreen: Volition Prismatic Luminizing Shield in SPF 50

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Okay so let’s just go down the line.  While the Native Deodorant is a deodorant and not an antiperspirant I am still using it this summer.  I thought about picking up an antiperspirant (and I did) for when I go out some place where sweat marks would be a really bad thing.  However in the past few weeks I haven’t gone anywhere that it was an issue.  The few places where I might go and not want to show sweat were so heavily air-conditioned that I actually had to bring a cardigan to keep from shivering. So even though I have an antiperspirant waiting in the wings, I have yet to actually break it out. The Native has worked thus far.

I like the clean of the Korres Foaming cream cleanser.  It smells fresh and feels clean without stripping the skin.  It goes on like a cream so it isn’t drippy until I add water and rub.  Then it foams up to wash the dirt away. It has a slight scent if you put your nose up to the open lid that might be a bit dairy-esque because of the yoghurt but once on the skin it just smells fresh and clean and the scent just washes down the drain.

I did a full review of the Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence (which you can find here).  It is a great product and one that I will repurchase once it runs out.  It is especially lovely in the summer time as it works to soothe skin that has spent too much time in the sun.  It is a large bottle so it will be with me for quite some time. Very little product is needed, so it lasts which is nice value for the money as well as simply being a great product.

I finished out the Caudalie Vino Perfect serum and rotated a sample from Whal Myung into the line up this week.  One pump is all that is needed to cover the face and neck.  It feels very wet when it applies but absorbs relatively quickly.  There is a slightly perfume scent to it that tends to linger.  It isn’t unpleasant but I haven’t decided how I actually feel about it.  It is also a little sticky after application.  There is anough product for another week of trial so I might have more for you next week on this product.  At the moment I’m a little on the fence about it.

The Elemis Procollagen Eye mask is still working out well for me.  I actually apply the dior serum first and then add the eye mask once it has absorbed (I tend to put the serums on, then brush my teeth, then add the Elemis followed by moisturizer. And then I finish with sunscreen.

The moisturizer I am using right now is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Oil Control Moisturizer.  (Full Review here) I like it and will happily finish out the jar.  There are about two, maybe three weeks left of product in the jar and then I will switch out moisturizers.

The sunscreen will remain.  I’m sure I will try out others but Volition is my go too as it absorbs well and I can just add it to my skin care line up without worrying about clogged pores.

Last week I had a sample of the Crest Pro Health Gum Detoxify.  You might notice in the photo, I went ahead and picked up the full size.  I have a couple of other toothpaste samples to try out, but I have to say I really liked the clean this gave.  My mouth felt fabulous.  So even if I try out other products, I wanted to have a full tube on hand for daily use.

Nighttime Skin Care

Makeup Remover: Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

Cleanser: Korres Foaming Cream Cleanser Pre + Probiotics Greek Yoghurt

Toner: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Eye Cream: Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Revive Mask

Moisturizer: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Oil Control Moisturizer

Eye Serum: Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum (gifted by Influenster)

Lips: Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask (in Maple), no lip scrub

Night Mask: Wander Beauty Do Not Disturb Overnight repair serum

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Most of the products I used in the day are also used at night.  The two differences are the Wander Beauty Overnight repair concentrate and the Bite Beauty Agave Lip mask.  The Wander Beauty I used three times this past week.  I like having a night mask for nights when I feel I need a little extra moisture for my skin, but I don’t need it every night.  I think if I used it everynight it would be far too much moisture for my skin.  It is a light weight cream that absorbs well and It comes in a beautiful glass pump bottle.  The nozzle is actually shaped well so if you hold your hand under it and press, the cream shoots into your hand instead of dribbling down the side of the lovely glass bottle, which I find nice.

The Bite Beauty Agave Lip mask I use every night just before I go to sleep and I really like it.  It feels a bit heavy as I drift off to sleep but by the time I weak up the next morning almost all of it has absorbed and my lips feel great.  This is not my first tube of the Bite Beauty lip mask and it certainly won’t be my last.

The Empties: November and December 2020

Last month I completely spaced on doing a review of the empties in my bin so there is a lot to go through this month.  Most of these items had full posts listed on my site so if you want more fulsome details I hope you check them out.  This is just a rundown of the products I used up, along with a few notes about what I think of them now that they are gone.

The products all laid out

Item number one is the Marc Jacobs Youthquake.  I had high hopes for this one.  It smelled nice and in general I like Marc Jacobs’ products.  This however felt very heavy on the skin and was far too moisturizing for me to take.

I could use it as a night cream but not during the day.  To use it up I ended up using it at night (and to be honest, also on my elbows which tend to get really dry in the winter).  It was fine at night (and my elbows loved it) but it was too heavy during the day.  I will not be repurchasing it. I will be reusing the very pretty jar somewhere though.

The PureHeals Pore Clear Black Charcoal peel off mask is also not going to make it to my repurchase list.  While I like the mud masks that PureHeals makes (and will order those repeatedly) this mask was not for me.  It never did anything for my skin that I could tell and it hurt to peel it off.  If a peel off mask is going to hurt then I want to see some results.  After all the Hey Honey Take off The Drama mask hurt like the dickens but my skin was fabulous afterwards.  This just hurt and offered no return.  I kept trying and it never got better.  So it is good by to the empty and I will not be picking it up again.

the A+ high dose retinoid (L) and ICE Moisturizer (R)

Next up there is a trial size of the Sunday Riley A+  High Dose Retnoid Serum.  I enjoyed using this very much and will be picking up a full sized bottle sometime in the near future to try out in my retinol trials. It was very nice and gone far too soon.

I will not miss the Marcelle CC Cream.  I finished this small tube up last week and happily added it to the empties bin.  While it is a wonderful color corrector, over the course of the day it seeped into the fine lines around my eyes and made me look super tired.

Marcelle Golden Glow CC Cream and Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Plus, it lives up to the name Golden Glow and made my face very glowy, which is not my thing.  And so this too will sadly not be repurchased.  I was disappointed as every other Marcelle product I’ve tried has been top notch.

Also disappointing was the Dove Nutritive Solutions for Volume and fullness.  While I love Dove products in general and usually have no problems with them, this shampoo and conditioner set just didn’t work for me.

While I don’t normally have a problem with tangles, while using this shampoo and conditioner, I ended up having more tangle problems than usual.  I also felt like my hair was slightly dull and getting some build up.

The first few washes were fantastic.  But then it just went downhill fast. While I love the brand Dove and will continue to buy other products, this shampoo and conditioner set won’t be one I will repurchase.

I have to say, I am slightly on the fence about the feel renewed Pumpkin Walnut facial cleanser. I never actually thought I’d say that. Because this is not my first tube. It is the scent that always gets me, and if I’m honest, it is the reason I purchase it.  I adore the scent and it was a good clean, but it was a rather rough exfoliate when it comes down to it.  I believe I used it early in November, maybe even late October.  The scent was suitable for the time frame and utterly delicious.

I have tried a couple of other exfoliating scrubs that perform better, even if they don’t smell as yummy.  The Olay Regenerist scrub in particular smelled nice and clean and was a much gentler product on the skin. I think this may fall into the category of I’d use it if it ended up coming into my possession but I wouldn’t seek it out. It is a good exfoliator for once or twice a week, I just don’t think I would want to keep it stocked. I just need to find something better with the same scent.

I will be stocking the pixi skintreats Clarity Tonic though.  It was a fantastic toner and I had wonderfully clear skin while using it.  While I like other pixi toners, I have to say this one thus far is at the top of the list.  This doesn’t mean I won’t try other Pixi products, but this one is a definite repurchase.

I cannot say the same thing for the Whish Botanical Primer, the Derma E radiance toner or the Balance me Bakuchiol soothing Serum.  Although I do think I will be looking into bakuchiol more closely as an ingredient.

The Balance me and the Derma E products both worked well, enough but the scent of them both was not one I appreciated nor wanted to face every day. I find it kind of a shame as they were good products. However I know myself and the scents just meant that if I repurchased them in a full size I would slowly stop using them because I couldn’t take the scent.

The Derma E was floral and somewhat cloying while the Balance me smelled a bit like floor cleaner.  I just know the product would go to waste if I purchased them. The Whish primer, however, was something altogether different.

Derma E toner and Georgette Klinger Collagen and Elastin Mask

The Whish botanical Primer was a failure as a primer. An Absolute Failure. It did nothing a primer really should be expected to do. It was however pretty good skin care.  While this primer won’t be returning any time soon, it worked well enough as skin care that I am going to be looking into the other products from this Whish line that are specifically designed for skin care use.  I will not use this as a primer. So it will not be returning, but some of its brand compatriots will.  I can’t be upset about trying it though as it did bring Whish to my attention.

Sulwhasoo serum, Whsh Botanical Primer and Goldfaden Needleless Serum

The Tatcha Deep Cleanse will hopefully soon make a return in a full size.  I really enjoyed this cleanser.  It was one of the few exfoliating cleansers that I have tried that I found I could use on a daily basis with no skin damage.

My skin looked and felt wonderful while using it and I really enjoyed the scent of the cleanser as well.  It is lightly floral but with enough of a fruit back note to keep it from being cloying.  I was somewhat surprised as I didn’t particularly care for Tatcha’s moisturizers when I tried them.  However I can see why this cleanser is one of the brand’s best sellers. It is definitely something I want to repurchase.

Elemis Pro-collagen marine Cream and Tatcha Deep Cleanse

There were four sample sized moisturizers in my bin this time around and I have to say all five of them made my list of products that I would want to reorder in a full sized version.

The Sunday Riley Ice moisturizer is not the most appealingly scented cream. It smells vaguely medicinal.  However, it is a thick cream that disappears into the skin and hydrates well.  I think as a night cream it would work well for me.  It is also one of those products where the product worked well enough that I found I could live with the scent.  As I am very scent oriented (in case you hadn’t guessed), that is saying something.

The second sample was the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine cream.  It shouldn’t come as a surprise that I enjoyed it as there are very few products from Elemis that I don’t enjoy.  This sample came to me through a Look Fantastic Box and I was happy to get the chance to try it before adding a full size to my try out list.

The third sample was from Skin Ceuticals and it it is the Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 moisturizer.  The sample worked well as both a day and a night cream and It is one I would certainly want to try out for longer.

Surprisingly the fourth is the 111Skin Y Theorem Day Cream.   With 111 Skin I am sometimes on the fence with them  I like a lot of their products but there are few I fall in love with.  Especially after seeing the price.  They usually strike me as good, but not quite good enough to justify the price.  I don’t mind paying more for a product I think is worth the price. Especially where skincare is concerned.

This is one moisturizer I could easily see myself falling in love with. It claims to be a day cream and that is exactly what it is.  I really like a product that stakes a claim on one thing and does it well.  I liked it enough that when I looked at the price of the full size I actually found myself thinking it sounded like it was priced correctly.

That was how much I enjoyed the sample.  I was very sad when the sample ran out and you can bet that anytime I see a sample of this up for grabs I will be snapping it up. This is one of the few things from 111 Skin that I believe actually earns its price tag.

Another product that earns it’s price, although it is substantially lower in price is the Timeless SkinCare Hyaluronic Acid Serum.  I believe a full sized bottle is around $9.95, but trust me, this serum is something I would actually pay twice that for, maybe even three times.  During my use of it, I actually saw a reduction in the Great Stress Crack of Mimsy, which is what I call the ever deepening line across my forehead.

While using this, it not only didn’t deepen, but it appeared to be getting shallower.  I was sad when it ran out. I have two hyaluronic acid serums to test out from other brands and now that I’ve had a few weeks without this serum, I am going to start a trial of the next sot see how it performs.  But right now, Timeless SkinCare has set the standard and it is a pretty high mark to reach.  Regardless of future trials, this was an excellent serum offered at an excellent price and it is one that I foresee making several repeated trips to my skin care shelf.

A few products that won’t return?  The Sulwhasoo first care Activating serum.  Its herbal scent I could get used to if it was an amazing product, but it left my skin sticky and not feeling improved.  The Goldfaden, MD Needle-less line corrector will not be returning either.  It felt like it was stinging, but beyond the stinging it didn’t do much.  In general Goldfaden, MD and I have not had the best history.  I have a serum to try from the brand, but thus far everything I have used from the brand has left me saying ‘Thanks, but no thanks. ‘

Sadly the Pa’akai cleansing cream also falls into that category.  It cleanses well enough, but the scent is just far too perfume-y for me to take on a twice daily basis.  Incidentally, I did use the product up, but there was just enough remaining to coat the back of the bottle where it lay in the empties bin so it looks full. It fooled me too but I opened it and looked inside thinking I might not have finished it out. But oh yeah, it is empty and the perfume scented remains remind me why I am not using it.

I found myself trying to avoid washing my face while using it, and that is not a good thing.  There are many steps I could probably skip in a skin care routine should I want to pair it down.  Washing my face isn’t one of them.  So, it is a good cleanser, but sadly the scent just made it not for me.

Also not for me is the Tarte Shape tape Concealer.  It works well as a spot concealer, blending beautifully into my skin and hiding red spots and blemishes.  But it settled into the fine lines under my eyes and just made me look haggard.  Which is not what I want in a concealer.  So I used the last of this little sample size up as a spot corrector. And now it is empty and will not be repurchased. Sadly I used to love the Shape Tape Concealer.  I think that as I get a little older, my skin’s needs just change.  I have changed not the product. If fine lines aren’t a problem for you then you will still love it. (if you like it now). This was an excellent concealer for me once upon a time, but no more.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara, Wander Beauty Mile High Mascara, Maybelline Color Strike Shadow, wet ‘n wild liquid liner and Revolution’s Fast Base Concealer.

I do have a second concealer in my empties bin this go around and it is the Fast Base Concealer from Revolution.  I love this concealer, never had any problems with it settling in my fine lines and will be repurchasing it very soon.

The fact that is it a $3 concealer, if I remember correctly, doesn’t hurt the wallet either. I don’t mind paying a lot for products that work, but good products come in all sorts of price ranges, and this one certainly proves it.  The Fast Base will be repurchased.

There are two empty mascaras in my empties bin.  One is the Mile High Lashes from Wander Beauty and the other is a sample sized tube of They’re Real from Benefit Cosmetics.  While each performed well, to be honest, neither are the products I prefer from the brands.  With Wander Beauty I would purchase the Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara before I would purchase the Mile High Club mascara.  With Benefit, I would purchase Bad Gal Bang before I would pick up They’re Real.  That isn’t to say that they are not both quality products, but I doubt I would purchase either of them specifically.  If going onto their brand pages, other products would draw my attention.  So I did like them, and wouldn’t mind using them again, I just know that if shopping, they aren’t the ones I would repurchase.

Also not making my repurchase list was the First Aid Beauty Primer.  It is a mattifying yet hydrating primer but my skin isn’t dry enough for the product.  If I had skin that was a great deal drier, this would be a different conversation.  But alas I don’t.  So the First Aid Beauty primer I would not repurchase.  If you have really dry skin and are looking for a mattifying primer, you might have better luck than I did with this product.

One primer I will consistently repurchase is the Yensa tone up primer.  This is either the second or third tube of this that I have gone through and I absolutely adore it.  It mattifies and fills pores really well and my skin reacts really well to it.  It makes my top ten favorites list. In fact everything I’ve tried form the Super 8 line from Yensa has been really good in general. I’m actually finishing out a BB cream sample size from the brand this week that I know I am going to have to order in a full size once I’ve whittled down my foundation products.

L to R: Hey Honey Gold Mask, Yensa Primer, Hey Honey CC Cream

The Hey Honey Trick and Treat CC cream is also on my reorder list.  It fairly melted into the skin and left me with a beautiful no makeup look that worked really well for daily wear.  I adored the formula and will be purchasing a full size in the future.

As far as Hey Honey goes I will also be reordering the Show Your Glow Colloidal Gold and Honey Beauty Mask.  I really like how soft and lovely it made my skin feel.  The fact that I wandered around the house for fifteen minutes looking like I’d been gilded by a wandering art restorer was kind of fun as well.  But the mask was fabulous.

I also want to order a full sized version of the Georgette Klinger Collagen and Elastin Mask (pictured above with Derma E).  The sample I tried worked really well on my skin and it is one I would not mind keeping a full size of around. It plumped up my skin and diminished my fine lines after one use.  The tube had enough for three uses and I was happy to use it for an entire week of masking.  I was however very sad when it was empty. So to the repurchase in a full size list the product goes.

As much as I like Native Deodorant, I have to say the sample size of the holiday scent Sugar Cookie was enough for me.  The sample size lasted a little over a month and quite frankly as much as I liked it, I was happy to end the trial. I am still using my Native Deodorant, but it is the Cucumber and Mint.

Like the holidays, it was nice while it lasted, but I was happy to resume the standard once it was done. I could not have taken a full size of this.  I am still upset I didn’t pick up the fill size of the Candy Cane Scent, but they didn’t have it at Target (apparently it sold out extremely fast) and I didn’t get around to ordering it in time.  That one I probably could have used longer than the Sugar Cookie. Mostly because I adore peppermint.

I still don’t know why spearmint (an inferior to peppermint in my opinion) gets to live on throughout the year, but peppermint, fabulous peppermint is banished to the holidays. Because of this I stock pile products and end up using products decorated for Christmas in June. It isn’t right. Do you know how many bars of Dr. Squatch’s Peppermint soap I have squirrelled away in my linen closet? I don’t either and I’m not counting because it would make me feel bad, but I do now have an absolutely deliciously scented linen closet. But that isn’t the point so I will end my pro-peppermint rant and get back to the empties.

I know this is a behemoth of a post, but there are only two more items and then, my darlings, we are through.  The Color Strike Shadow from Maybelline was  really hard to work with and had the added effect of not staying long on the lid once I got it to work.  While I generally like Maybelline Products, this was not my favorite.  I am getting rid of it because trying to make it work nearly drove me bonkers. I’m sure there is product remaining in the tube, but it was so hard to ge out onto the little brush that I couldn’t prove it. It will not be repurchased.  I’ll still use Maybelline products, just not this particular product.

And to end on a good note.  The wet ‘n wild liquid megaliner eyeliner. It reminded me of how much I really liked liquid eyeliners. It performed magnificently and I was so sad when the product reached the end of its productive life.  It went on smoothly and after letting it dry a moment, it stayed put all day without fading.  (If you don’t give it a moment to dry it will transfer when you blink because it is a wet liquid. So just give it a second and you are good).

I will repurchase this product and I will continue repurchasing this product.  I will also be picking up more liquid eyeliners from different brands in the future. As a side note, the wet ‘n wild liquid eyeliner was the very first eyeliner I learned to apply way back in Junior High. I loved it then and I find it amusing all these years later to find that it is still a great product. So many of the products i used to absolutely adore when I I was first introduced to makeup have either sadly gone away or are kind of amusing to look back on. I find it fun to find one product that still works as good as I thought it did when I first started with makeup.

And with that my darlings we are finally through with two months’ worth of empties.  If nothing else this reminds me that I need to remember to do these once a month or suffer the wrath of an overflowing bin and an extraordinarily long post.  I nearly forgot about some of the items towards the bottom.

If you stuck with me, thanks for making it to the very end. If you didn’t’, don’t worry, it was a really long haul and I almost gave up midway through myself. I will see you at the end of January with next month’s empties in a much more manageable sized post. I have put it on my nice new calendar so that I will not forget it. I will also be back this afternoon with a perfume review as well, but I am definitely remembering the empties bin each month instead of letting it carry over.

The Make up Bag: November 20, 2020

The Make Up Bag Used November 14th – 20th, 2020

This is going to be a bit of an odd post for me this week as I used a face palette from PUR for four of my face products.  This week the Pur 4-in-1 Skin Perfecting Powders served as the source of my powder, bronzer, blush and highlight. The link will take you to my full review, but overall it was a pretty good palette.

While I wouldn’t reach for each product individually, I would feel confident in adding the entire palette to a makeup bag without adding any extras to balance it out.  Quite simply my darlings it is a face palette where everything works well. I was very pleased with it.

I was less pleased with the LA Splash Eyeshadow palette. While I was thrilled Glossy Box had a full sized palette (and really that is very rapidly becoming one of my favorite subscription boxes) The mattes were powder but the shimmers worked well.

In the end I don’t think it was worth its $32 price tag as my $5.99 Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon Palette was so much better.  It did make me remember that I had that palette and will probably cause me to pull the wet ‘n wild palette out of the drawer and add it to next week’s makeup bag, so that was a plus.  But this palette was not my favorite. There are more details in my full review, but I would not recommend picking this palette up, even if I do still give a thumbs up to Glossy Box for the full sized palette.

With the eyeshadow I used both my Pretty Vulgar Lid Primer and my Pretty Vulgar Concealer in an attempt to get it to stay in place (not at the same time, you understand). I adore both products.  I really like the concealer as it does not crease on me and settle into fine lines and usually the Pretty Vulgar Lid Primer is like velcro for eyeshadow.  I was happy to have them both in my bag this week, even if there were some shadow issues.

This week I used up the last of my Hey Honey Trick or Treat CC2 as my foundation product.  I really enjoyed using this and am very sad my trial sized tube is now empty.  I will however be ordering it in a full size once I have worked through some of my open products.

Less successful this week was the First Aid Beauty Pores be gone Matte Primer. I love pore filling primers.  I love matte primers.  This was neither.  It is a very moisturizing primer. It feels good against the skin, but it is not filling any pores.  My skin liked it, but it didn’t do its job.  My pores remained unfilled and it wasn’t very matte. I am happy that it was a trial size and that the tube wasn’t really a full one.  After a week of use, the tube is empty and heading to the empties bin.  I will not be purchasing a full sized replacement even though I will be picking up a full sized First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Moisturizer soon.  While the moisturizer was a good product at least in a trial run, it seems to be a one off for me.  Other First Aid Beauty products don’t seem to work as well for me.

Doucce Eyeliner and Realher Brow pencil

You know what did work well for me?  The Doucce Ultra precision Eyeliner. After being so disappointed in the eyeshadow palette, I was thrilled that I really liked this eyeliner.  I tried it a long time ago (or a slightly different Doucce eyeliner) and loved it. It gave me a positive impression of the brand and then both the eyeshadow and mascara were only so so.  Which made me doubt the eyeliner.  But no, the eyeliner is just as good as I remember it.  It is creamy, glides on smoothly and stays in place all day.  What more could I want in an eyeliner? Oh yeah, to have it be on sale, which it is on the Look Fantastic site. They are having a bunch of sales, which I’ll post at the bottom of this post, but the eyeliner is on sale and this link will take you to that specific sale item (if you are shopping)

This week I finally got to open my Wander Beauty Unlashed Mascara. I had the Mile High Mascara opened and I couldn’t justify opening both at the same time, mostly because I knew I would just used the Unlashed and the Mile High would go to waste.  This is not a lengthening mascara, it is for volumizing and it always makes my lashes look thick and full.  It never flakes off and it lasts all day.  At least this was my impression with the last tube.  Now that the Mile High has joined the empties bin, I could open this one.  You know what?  Wander Beauty’s Unlashed Mascara is just as good as I remember.  I am a very big fan and so happy to have it open on my dressing table once again.

My eyebrows used the Realher eyebrow pencil, partially because I really like it and partially because I just forgot it was in the makeup bag last week and kept it around again. It was a happy accident and I enjoyed using it.  I’ll trade it out this week though.  But rest assure it will be returning.

Also from Realher this week was my lip pencil the shade number is 20218 and called I am Confident.  At first I thought the name was just a motivational slogan.  The shade is a nice neutral that worked really well with both my Lipsticks this week. The first was the Kristofer Buckle Cashmere slip lipstick in Bardot (yes I bought my favorite back out. I couldn’t help it).  The replacements are on the way and I want to use every smidge of this tube before they arrive. Plus, I just love the lipstick. Creamy long lasting and not drying. A clear winner.

The lip liner also went well with my Lorac lipstick this week.  The Lorac is in the shade Breadwinner. Both my lipsticks were neutral shades this week.  I expected to go heavy and dark with the eyeshadow. While that didn’t work out, these are two of my favorite lipsticks so I don’t mind the excuse to use them.

Lip liner on top, followed by Kristofer Buckle in Bardot, Breadwinner from Larac and ending with Black Cherry from Elf (the elf really is more sheer than it appears in the swatch.

And using the Lorac reminded me I wanted to look at ordering one of the new Lorac Pro eyeshadow palettes. I’ve been eyeing the Soliel Pro Palette for a while now. I had one of the original Lorac Pro Palettes a long time ago and it was well used.  Lorac, Urban Decay and Chantecaille used to be the only shadows I kept around.  I had the Chantecaille Luminescent Eye Shades in a couple of singles, one Urban Decay Palette and one Lorac.  I used the Chantecaille shadows down to pan, I replaced the Urban decay but tend to forget about it and my Lorac met with an unfortunate accident during a move. I was very sad. And I kept meaning to replace it.  Now they have a new line out, I will.  I also may keep this Lorac Lipstick in my makeup bag as a reminder to dip into their sales next week.

To complete my lipsticks, I made it a trio and added the Elf Black Cherry Lip Slick to the bag as well this week.  I really like that it gives me a good wash of color without the fuss. It is a great formula and I tend to reach for it throughout the day regardless of what I started out with.  While I thought about getting the whole line, my Elf order proved larger than I thought is was going to be so I just added an extra Black Cherry Lip Slick as back up for this one.

And finally to seal it all in, I added the Laura Geller Spackle Mist setting spray. It is in Coconut water and while slightly coconut-y, it is not a heavy scent and it really set my make up well. Especially after last week’s paint smelling setting spray. It was quite a nice refreshing change.

So that was this week’s makeup bag.  I really enjoyed most of it.  The Primer and the eyeshadow were failures, but everything else I tried worked well for me.  But the primer sample is empty and the eyeshadow palette is being passed along to someone who might enjoy it more. I can’t wait to see how next week’s bag shapes up.
