The Daily: July 11th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today has been interesting. I went to get the mail and was very excited that one of the items I ordered from the IPSY store arrived. It was the Korres Santorini Grape Velvet skin Drink. I have been really wanting to try it out. And when I saw it for sale on IPSy I thought it was about perfect.

Now I should explain that I did purchase this from IPSY a while back, when it first came out on the site. It was somehow lost in transit and after much back and forth they finally told me it was sold out and just refunded me the money. This time when it arrived, the top had been somehow unscrewed in transit and the bottle arrived empty. The package smelled fantastic and the green glass bottle was lovely, but it was empty. So I contacted IPSY care (which meant spending way too much time with their IPSY Bot before finally getting to submit a ticket to a person.) Surprisingly they got back to me in under an hour. They asked me to confirm my details and they said they would send out a replacement.

Mostly I am mentioning this because there have been a lot of horror stories about IPSY’s customer service and replacement policy. I wanted to note down when this happened so I can follow the trail of the replacement item. I’m hoping it won’t be a saga, but I wanted a firm reminder that this replacement sequence began on July 11th.

I am impressed that they got back to me so quickly. Hopefully that is a good indicator. we shall see. As for the rest of the day, the creek was swollen and flood the park, so it was back to Yoga for my daily exercise. I don’t mind it but I do prefer the walks. Of course even without the rain it was getting too warm for walks outside. July and August the heat just makes it impossible here. And because I have the Yogaworks program I am trying out, there are plenty of workouts. I’ve been doing them haphazardly mostly so I can try them out, but I think I like it enough that in August I am going to set up a more regular schedule with it. Not only will the regular schedule be better for me, but I can really get a feel for the system.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Yensa BC Full coverage Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Tatcha Silk Powder

Eyeshadow: Natasha Denona Ayana Palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb

Okay several of these products I chose because I didn’t tidy up my makeup over the weekend and they were out. I was also moving kind of fast this morning and I knew that they would work without trouble so I went with them. The Buxom Cosmetics Bronzer and the Illamasqua gel blusher are two of my absolute favorite products and I don’t really have to think too much when using them. They work without causing issues. I will put them back in the drawer and use other things, but today, they were good products that were already out.

I am still playing around with the liquid primer from Tatcha. It works well but I’m not sure if I like it more than the balm primer. That one I adore. And given the price I can only buy one of them at a time. I can’t justify both at the same time. But it is a nice primer. It fills pores quite well and is really nice to use. So testing it out this week is not a hardship. Plus I kind of want to see how long the travel size will last.

The Yensa BC Foundation is one of my favorite foundation product. If I could only have three foundations, it would be at the top of the list. This always sort of surprises me as their Silk foundation is good but not my favorite. I always find it fun that the same brand can have such different products. But this BC foundation is a total winner if you want something that blends easy and never looks caked on. The trick for me is rotating it and using other products.

I wanted to use the Ayana Palette again today so that I can do a comparison with the Cream and Sugar palette from ELF. The Natasha Denona Palette has one more shadow (silver) but I think I prefer the formula of the elf palette. and I can live without the silver. I will be using the elf tomorrow to see how I feel about it then. With testing other products it’s been a while since I used it.

The Patrick Ta mascara is still okay. I will use it and not repurchase it. Its fine, but thee is nothing special about it. I used the eyelash curler with it and that gave it a little more help, but it is just a basic mascara.

The Gloss bomb is the only Fenty product I really love and I am trying to remember to use it more often. So I have it out. It is a really great formula that really hydrates the lips as well as providing shine.

And in case you are wondering about my hair, I am trying out a new shampoo and conditioner. It is the Herbal Essences Argan oil for repair. I expected the shine and softness, but i didn’t expect the volume. It is a little fuller than I thought it would be. I am liking it, I was just surprised.

So now it is back to work for me. I hope all of you are having a fantastic day. As for me, I am feeling good and on the final stretch of a book release. The relief I will feel when this is finally out can not be underestimated. It has been an almost cursed manuscript. But soon the curse will life. Hopefully. Keep your fingers crossed.

The Daily: July 7th, 2022

Today’s daily may be a little short. We have a line of thunderstorms passing through and have lost internet twice today and the lights keep flickering so I fear a power failure is eminent. So This is going to be short and sweet.

I actually am somewhat amused by the fact that the weather alerts that post in my icons bar at the bottom of the screen have been alternating between Thunderstorm and Heat wave. (the heat index is 105 – actual temp 93 – today in case you are wondering) Usually rain drops the temperatures a little bit, but not today. i went outside because the wind knocked over some of my plants and I had to straighten the pots. The rain felt like bathwater. I don’t know why warm rain kind of creeps me out. I think I am used to it being slightly cooler than the air. Regardless, the rain is warm. My day has been spent working around the thunderstorm and there has been no exercise to speak of. I think the most I managed is walking to and from the coffee pot. It has just been that kind of day. So Let’s look at the makeup I used for it.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Silk Canvas Liquid Primer

Foundation: Kristofer Buckle Triplicity Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Tatcha Silk Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Natasha Denona Ayana Palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Elf Sheer Slick in Black Cherry

The Tatcha Silk Canvas is beginning it’s time of testing. This is the liquid version. I adore the solid balm version. This one is interesting. I can’t help but compare it as it goes on. At first it feels more liquid-y than I want, but as I massage it in and blend it out, it starts to feel like the balm version of this primer. It is an odd sensation. thus far it seems to be performing just as well as the balm version. Once I get over that initial liquid phase I rather like it. I still haven’t decided if I like it better than the solid. I am starting to see pan on the solid and am trying to decide if I want to repurchase the solid or go with this liquid version Time will tell which I prefer, but for now this one seems to be working well.

I am trying to use the Kristopher Buckle once a week at least until it is used up. I think the company is gone, although the product is still on Amazon. The reason I am trying to use it up is because it is one of my favorite formulas and I know if I don’t use it, I will hoard it for when i know I need something quick easy and fabulous. which I know I shouldn’t do, but I tend to do anyway. So once a week until it is gone.

The Buxom bronzer is a nice buildable formula. It works well with both regular foundation and a natural look tinted moisturizer which is why I tend to reach for it a lot in the summertime. It does work better with more natural looks, but it can build up to something more dramatic. It just doesn’t come out of the gate highly pigmented (which I kind of like).

This Illamasqua gel blusher is one of my favorite formulas for cream blush and I really don’t need a reason to reach for it. Just a drop blended out works well for me. This little pot will last a long time, even with how often I reach for it.

I tried the Tatcha powder in a sample when I ordered the Kissu lip mask (love the lip mask btw) and I liked the powder enough to try it in a travel size. I am also trying to use up several open powders at the moment and didn’t want to pick up a full size of anything until i ‘d cleared a couple of the almost done containers. I really like the powder. It is finely milled and doesn’t leave me looking powdery. it works well over makeup or on it’s own as i wore it yesterday. I am probably going to pick up the full size when I restock. Part of me wants to keep the travel size just for travel. Or at least pick up another one for holiday travel if I empty this one.

And then there are the eyes. I have three of the Natasha Denona Mini palettes nd I am rotating through the three of them to test. The other two are red based while this one is brown/neutrals. I am noticing that the browns are less pigmented and easier to control. With the red based palette I barely touch the brush to the lid and then I reach for a clean brush to blend because they ae so pigmented. These browns have good pigment and good bendability but i am finding them easier to control if that makes sense. I like this palette with today’s use, but to be honest I don’t see it as better than the Elf Bite sized palette with the same tones. I might have to do a side by side comparison. I love the Cream and Sugar palette from Elf. It doesn’t have the silver but it has everything else. And it works better. (It is also only $5 as opposed to the $25 mini palette from Natasha Denona). For now i am just looking at the Natasha Denona Palettes but i think a side by side may be coming up. It is a nice palette and less pigmented than the reds.

The Patrick Ta mascara is just okay. It is a good general work day mascara. It coats the lashes and doesn’t flake. It doesn’t give major volume or length or curling. I would suggest using an eyelash curler before using it. It is fine for everyday use but nothing really all that special.

And we wrap up with the Elf Sheer Slick. I love this black cherry shade and have lost count of how many times I have repurchased it for just a quick sheer wash of color. It is one of the few lip products I will use all the way up. Oddly I don’t like the other shades, but I do love this one.

And that is me today my darlings. Thunder has just boomed over head and the lights are flickering again so i am going to end this here and catch up with you again in the morning. Have a great afternoon.

The Daily: June 9th, 2022

Have you ever had a day start out one way and morph completely in just a few hours? I started off nice and quiet today. I did my yoga while thunder boomed and rain lashed down. Which oddly made it feel much more exciting. I showered and dried my hair. I applied my makeup and even managed a piece of toast for breakfast before the world went pear shaped.

Apparently other people are having computer issues today. I have back up documents and am having to work on some updates on the fly today. So this is going to be a quick post. Since I’ve already been stopped twice while trying to write this, I am going to go ahead and jump into the daily makeup in the hopes of completing this post before the next revisions (I’m waiting for someone to read through the batch I finished.) So…

Today’s Look:

Primer: Yensa Tone Up Primer

Foundation: KVD Vegan Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Cosmetics Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Eyeshadow: Lime Crime Exposed Prelude Palette

Mascara: Wander Beauty Unlashed Mascara

Brows: Billion Dollar Brows Brow Pomade in Taupe

Lips: Thrive Causmetics lip gloss (Ashley)

I really enjoy the KVD Powder foundation but it can get a little intensely matte. If paired with a semi-glow-y primer like the Yensa it is a beautiful pairing. The only thing you have to watch out for (as with any powder foundation) is giving the primer time to settle in a bit. Also this is not a foundation where you want a super sticky primer. The powder adheres strangely and you get patchy spots. But I find that with any powder foundation. This was a good pairing and I am happy to take the KVD powder foundation out for summer. It is a great light weight summer product and for me, this foundation is back in season. I love it in the summer, but tend to think it looks dry in the winter. I think that is more my skin than anything else though. Happy to use it all summer long.

The Buxom and Illamasqua, what can I say? Two of my favorite products and because I didn’t put them away the last time I used them they were out on the table and just easy to pick up. They are both great products that I will use to pan and then reorder.

I chose the Lime Crime Palette today partially because I love it and it always looks good, but partially because I am trying to decide if I want to pick up the immortals palette. After reminding myself how good this formula is, I really do. It does mean that I need to do an eyeshadow declutter. My shadow drawer is already over flowing and I refuse to have more than I can keep in the space. I also get a little overwhelmed by too many palettes. I look at the drawer and just end up grabbing whichever is on top without looking at any other one and I really enjoy choosing from among the palettes rather than freaking myself out.

this is one of my favorite palettes for blendability, pigmentation and color selection

I actually took my brow pomade out today. there is only a little left so I need to reorder. I love the BDB formula for brow pomade. And they have added new items to their Beauty box kits. They now have more shades and magnetic brushes that go inside them. I may have to do some adding on to my kit when I reorder my pomade

And finally I just wanted a clear gloss and the Thrive was handy. It is a nice formula and there isn’t a whole lot left so I am trying to use it up.

I know that is a quick run down and I’m sure I missed a bunch, but it is just one of those days where the running doesn’t stop. The end result is I liked all of the products i used and am happy with my look today. But now it is back to work for me. Fingers crossed that all the issues are settled today and don’t spill over to Friday and the weekend. Have a great Thursday my darlings.

The Daily: June 7th, 2022

This morning started off with a thunderstorm. The thunder lightning and drenching rain caused me to snuggle into bed and hit my snooze alarm as many times as I felt I could get away with. let’s face it, I don’t like mornings in general and knowing that I didn’t have a hope of getting a walk in today just made that snooze alarm too tempting to resist.

When i did get up I discovered that in the night wind played havoc with both the garden and the lawn furniture. So I went chasing chairs and re-staking tomatoes. The Cucumber vines were like one of those inflatable men balloons outside of car dealerships, but they too were corralled.

I also managed to accidentally scare several rabbits and felines out of their rain shelters. I moved the chair, they realized their shelter was gone and ran for the hills. I didn’t see them until them moved and almost had a heart attack as they streaked past me.

Which meant I was well awake before my morning coffee.

I suppose that is the karmic balance for the snooze alarm.

I will say the rain hasn’t stopped even if the wind had died back and the thunder and lightning moved on. The rain has settled into stay. If the weather reports are rught then it is here to stay for a few days. It is making me feel very sleep and like I want to just find somewhere cozy to curl up with a good book rather than work, but as I am behind on a few deadlines due to may’s upheavals I can’t afford to just walk away for the day. No matter how much I just want to call it a rain day.

Sometimes being an adult is just not fun at all.

my hair got a dousing with the rain this morning and any attempt at volume has gone out the window. Apparently it only liked uncontrolled volume when the humidity hangs in the air instead of falling from the sky

Today’s Look:

Primer: Rodial Glass Primer

Foundation: Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Lava Water Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Cosmetics Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Tatcha The silk Powder

Eyeshadow: Iconic London Sunset to Sunrise Palette

Mascara: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag

Lips: Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick

One thing I love about this time of year is that I get to switch up my makeup. Yes I know the illamasqua and the buxom are year round products that I absolutely love and will reach for regardless, but I meant foundation. I get to shift my winter shade foundations to the side and pull out my spring to summer ones. It is always a delight. (Mostly because if a foundation doesn’t work for me I get rid of it fairly quickly so someone else can use it, so all the foundations I keep I really like) This Pretty Vulgar foundation is just beautiful. And right now the shade I have is exactly the right shade for me. It blends so beautifully with my skin tone and it lasts all day long with no issues. It also feels weightless. Its at this time of year where I feel like I am discovering old favorites anew.

This is one of the few true foundations that i will wear during the summer. I tend to shift into more tinted moisturizer bb cream sort of products for the summer. However this one is light enough that when I do need an actual foundation in the summer, I will reach for this one. The bottle is about half empty at this point so I suspect it will be finished out before the summer’s end. Which means I will be repurchasing. I’ll need to decide if i want to pick my summer shade or get both the summer and fall shades of this when I do. I think of it as a summer foundation because that is the shade i have and because it works so well in the summer, but since I am repurchasing I may get a winter shade as well this year. I managed to clear out several of my winter shades this year as well so there is space and I really do like this formula. The pretty bottle doesn’t hurt of course.

With the Rodial Primer, I think I have reached the conclusion that I do like the way it performs. I like the way it feels on the skin. I like the way it looks and the fact that it doesn’t clog my pores. It really is just a matter of scent. That menthol scent is strong and I do not care for it. It is however a great primer.

The Buxom Bronzer I really like as it is buildable. I can go light with it now and as the summer progresses deepen it so that I don’t need a different shade. It is a nice bronzer in general. Of course when I went to their site to look at the links for this post I saw they have what looked like a new line of plumping matte liquid lipsticks. I will be delving in deeper. You know I love my mattes, I love my liquid lippies and lets face it, I kinda dig the plumping. The trick is the drying factor with matte liquid lips. So I’ll need to hold back, get one or two shades for testing and then decide if I like them. But as I generally love Buxom’s lip formula, I have high hopes.

Today’s lipstick was from Wet ‘n Wild. I like their megalast line as the color rally lasts on it and they are comfortable to wear. if you blot after application the lip prints aren’t too bad. Towards the end of the day my lips do get a little dry but a quick hit of lip balm covers it and all is good.

The more I use the ABH Lash Brag Mascara, the more I like it. it does tend to flake after about eight hours of wear, but until then it looks fantastic. Each time I use it, it seems to get better.

On the other time, I am finding I want to reach for this Iconic palette less and less. This morning I had to talk myself out of reaching for my Lime Crime Palette. (Incidentally Lime Crime has just lowered their prices permanently. It isn’t a sale. I so want their Venus Immortals Eyeshadow Palette. I am trying to hold off until I do a palette declutter but I know soon, this palette will be mine. I just need to make space first – which is actually a good incentive for decluttering.

But I am finishing up the trial of the Iconic palette so I took it out instead. The shadow formula is nice. They are nicely pigmented and blend well. It is really the shadow colors that I’m having issues with. The shimmers are many and varied and they all look nice and work well. I really only like two or three mattes in the palette. some of the colors I don’t like, others just don’t work for me and my skin tone. It is a palette where I will reach for it for a couple of specific shadows and that’s it. So great formula, bad color choice.

And finally I am still using the powder sample from Tatcha and I probably will be for the rest of the week. There is a surprising amount of powder in this sample. It looked like it would just be a day or two but this is day two and there is still plenty. With the way the sample is set up I can’t put it in a drawer to use later so i do need to use it up. Which is not a hardship. This powder is super fine, little is needed, it feels soft, makes my skin took great and doesn’t look powdery. This is one of the best powders I’ve tried in a while. I have several good face powders but this is a fabulous one.

And that is my look for the day. It is raining outside so walking gave way to Yoga and I am fighting my own desire to take the day off in an effort to get some work done. Rainy days just call for curling up with a good book. Given the front moving in, the rain is likely to last the week. If it hangs around until Saturday, I suspect that is going to feature as part of my weekend plan. For now, it is full steam ahead into the land of e-mails and paperwork. Wish me luck!

The Travel Makeup Bag for May 2022

While not a review, I thought it might be of interest to you to see what I am putting in my travel makeup bag and why. During my daily makeup posts I tend to rotate through makeup, but when I travel I tend to pick reliable products that can fit into a small makeup bag, especially when it is a weekend trip. While this isn’t exactly a fun getaway, it is travel. The only thing I left out of the makeup bag is mascara. The reason is that this trip is for a memorial service and there will be many tears shed. At the moment I have yet to pick up a waterproof mascara so I am leaving my mascara behind and will either pick up a waterproof mascara at the drug store or go without.

When traveling I generally find it a good idea to stick to products that don’t spill and I try to reduce the possible breakage component by sticking to cream products so they feature heavily in this bag.

This time I am starting with the Kristopher Buckle Triplicity Foundation stick. It has traveled with me for quite some time. It is my old reliable. I’m still not certain of the status of the company. I know that the main website shut down after massive sales and now it is available at walmart. It is a fantastic foundation, I just don’t know if it will be replaced once it runs out. I may actually scoop up one more for travel purposes because it is really hard to beat this stick formula. Plus I don’t have to worry about foundation bottles breaking. But if the company has gone under I won’t stock up, I’ll just work on finding a new travel fave.

The face products

The primer I am taking with me is the Tatcha Silk canvas Primer. It is a fantastic pore filling primer that locks in my makeup for as long as I end up wearing it. As I have no idea how long I will be in makeup this weekend I thought it would be a good product to choose.

The trestique bronzer shouldn’t surprise anyone. It is quick and easy to use and one of my favorite cream formulas. The Illamasqua Colour Veil Gel blusher also shouldn’t surprise anyone as it is rapidly moving to the top of my favorite products list.

I didn’t bother with a highlighter, but you may notice a tiny round pot with a gold lid and a pink bow on it. I know, it looks like an eye cream, however it is actually a sample size of the Ciate London Extraordinary powder. It came in an IPSY bag a while back and to be honest, I have refilled it a couple of times. For a weekend it is all the powder I need. I will be adding the powder puff from the Kim Chi Powder to my makeup bag to use with it.

Shadow and Brow

For eyeshadow I am taking The Balm and The Beautiful Palette from The Balm. It is the one I’ve been playing with recently. I really like the formulas and the ease of application and it is a compact size that fits in the bag. So since it was already out, I went ahead and added it to the makeup bag. I will have the full review of the palette up next week, I simply didn’t get a chance to finish it this week.

I added a Marcelle eyebrow pencil because I like it and it has a spoolie on the end so I don’t have to worry about adding secondary brow products (like a brush) into the bag. And then we have the lips.

the lips

I’ll be honest, i don’t think I have ever traveled with just one lip product in my life. To this bag I added my favorite MAC neutral in Bated Breath. I also added a Trestique lip crayon in case I wanted a slightly darker product. I added the Yensa Lip oil in case I felt like shine, or only a glossy lip with no lipstick and I chose an assortment of lip pencils. Some match the lip products others stand alone. For this bag I chose, UOMA, Persona Cosmetics, Bodyography, Huda Beauty and Real Her. I figure they are all relatively neutral and all have slightly different formulas. I plan to choose whichever one appeals at the right moment. And more than anything I like having a variety of lip products to choose from. Oddly enough in out of control situations it can sometimes make me feel like I am in control by making a decisive decision as to what lip product to wear. As it is a weekend where I can control nothing and can only deal with whatever happens, having that one tiny bit of control, really does help me mentally balance. Even if having seven lip products in the bag does seem a little extra.

Sometimes it isn’t abut what you actually wear.

And so that my darlings, is the makeup bag I will be traveling with this weekend and why I chose the products included.

The Daily: May 9th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings, I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was …not so great. We had an unexpected death in the family and are dealing with the shock and sadness. This Friday we are driving down to deal with the more physical things. It will mean that Friday’s schedule will be thrown out of whack, but the rest of the week should be fairly normal. The photos may feature puffy eyes a bit more this week, but I am going on with the posts. Mostly because it helps to actually do normal things. As I am several states away I can only do e-mail notifications and phone calls instead of being on the scene, so to speak, so focusing on doing some normal things kind of helps.

As do longer walks, which honestly is more for deep breathing and escape than exercise.

I am very happy that I got into the habit of walking well before now because it really helps to have that physical escape. As for food, well the meal plan is a bit shaky. I made the stuffed peppers as I planned, but had no appetite last night. I ended up eating cinnamon raisin toast with a bit of butter. I think that is going to be played by ear as well. I’m certain at some point my appetite will come roaring back and I will deal with that, but sometimes life just is what it is.

While I did put on makeup today I am suspecting that the mascara was a really bad idea and may be left off of the rest of the week. I also discovered I have no waterproof mascara and will need to pick some up before the weekend. So…

Today’s Look:

Pre Makeup Base: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Primer: Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Kristopher Buckle Triplicity Foundation Stick

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzer Stick

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Highlight: Saint Luxe Liquid Glow

Powder: Kim Chi Beauty Puff Puff Pass Set and Bake Powder

Eyeshadow: The Balm and the Beautiful by The Balm

Mascara: Blinc Ultravolume Tubing Mascara

Lips: Bodyography Lip Pencil in Rosewood

The Embryolisse provided much needed extra moisture this morning when I applied my makeup as my skin felt a bit salt dried. I like the pre make up base in general, but today it was a stand out assist.

When I started to put on makeup today my first thought was to test the Saint Luxe Liquid Glow. As the last two foundations I tried out had a bit of an illuminating effect I wanted to see how it worked with a matte product. As I started choosing my products however I ended up thinking about travel. I will be going out of town this coming weekend and my mind automatically drifted towards what would travel well. The Trestique, Tatcha and Illamasqua were no brainers. The Trestique has been my travel bronzer choice for several years now actually. There is the possibility that the Illamasqua gel blusher and Tatcha Primer will join them as they both have formulas that travel well and look good for long periods of time.

I took out the Kristopher Buckle Foundation stick because I do love the formula and wanted to see if it was still the right shade for my current skin tone. I don’t reach for it as often a I used to because I am not sure about the status of the company. I always used to buy these from the KB website. Now the only place i can find them for sale is Walmart. So I am nit sure what happened there and when I have some time I need to do a deep dive. If the brand is still around I will continue purchasing this foundation stick as it is a really nice product and it travels well. It is a creamy stick formula that glides easily without being too stiff and blends like a dream.

The Saint Luxe Liquid Glow that I specifically wanted to try out with different products today is proving to be more of a soft glow than an actual highlighter. I really like it, but it is far more subtle a glow than most of my highlighters. As I really don’t like a lot of bright highlights, it is actually quite nice for me. It is just a subtle hint of glow on the high points of the face. Which is perfect for office and meetings even if it isn’t all that dramatic.

The Blinc Mascara I went light on today but any mascara was really a mistake today. And I did trim my bangs over the weekend which means I should have picked out an eye brow product since you can actually see my eyebrows again, but I forgot. (I also fell asleep with wet hair so my bangs look even more uneven than they should). I actually have several eye brow pencils to test out. I go in phases with my brows. If my bangs are short I will use product, if my bangs are long enough that you can’t see them then I just use a spoolie to comb through them. And then I tend to reach for my favorite Billion Dollar Beauty Brow Pomade instead of trying out the accumulated brow pencils I keep telling myself I need to try out or pass on. It is a great formula, but I need to try out the pencils just to decide if they are staying or not.

This eyeshadow from The Balm is proving fantastic. It applies well and blends well. It is moderately pigmented but buildable. For me that is perfect. I feel I have more control than I do with some highly pigmented formulas.

Finally I am continuing my process of working through my lip liners and I went with bodyography. It is a traditional pencil and creamier than I remembered. It lines really well but was a little thin for filling in. In the end it worked well. It is slightly drying so I did find myself applying lip balm over it. I’m rather liking the color. So that is nice.

It was a fairly simple look with an eye more towards planning a travel makeup bag than anything else. Today it worked for me. Although there will be a trip to the drug store for waterproof mascara. If anyone has any suggestions I’d be happy to hear them. I generally don’t use waterproof mascara and honestly haven’t purchased it in several years.

I know this week won’t be the perkiest of Dailies, but writing them gives me a small window of normality in an otherwise chaotic week, so thanks for putting up with me this week. I hope the rest of your Monday runs smoothly.

The Daily: May 5th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Have you ever had one of those days where you get up go through your morning routine and then as you sit down with your first cup of coffee look at your schedule so you can have a sense of your day? Today I did that, as I do most mornings. And my schedule looked clear.

It looked like smooth uninterrupted desk work for the duration of the day. Which was nice. I had a lot of work to get done and it was nice to have a long stretch of time in which to do it. I then looked at the weather and saw that it was going to be sunny today and I might actually be able to chance a walk and at least see if the flood waters have receded from the walking trail.

Then the work day started. Given that I was going to be on my own, sans meetings today I was going to go makeup free. I settled into my desk thinking, ‘Maybe a nice moisturizing mask around lunch time would be a good idea.’ I had a vision for my day.

Then I looked at my e-mail. And found there were several unexpected meetings, some requiring video. Now I know loads of people really want to see the people they are meeting with face to face, but the thing is, very little I do requires more than a phone conversation. I always spend the video calls taking notes and asking the occasional question for clarification. which is also what I do for regular phone calls, except that on a regular phone call you can’t tell I didn’t bother with makeup and might be wearing a face mask. Even if most of the call is people watching the top of my head as I write down notes.

Still against all odds, some people love video calls. So I hustled into a quick makeup look and made sure my hair was passably respectable. The earrings I chose because I like them and I am always interested to see if anyone notices the ‘hoops’ are actually octopus tentacles. Thus far no one has commented on them if they have noticed. But it amuses me. I do wish I remembered where I picked them up though. I really like them and I remember that there was a ring there I liked as well. It had an octopus head where the ring would be and then the tentacles wrapped decoratively around the finger. It was delicately done in an old gold look. I remember really wanting it but thinking that I couldn’t get away with it in the office (it was a very conservative office). And I never saw it again. I remember it striking me because it was very delicately done fine jewelry rather than the heavier steam punk sort of pieces that you usually see with octopus designs.

While I like a lot of the Steampunk stuff I am just an old school fan of Jules Verne. Journey to the Center of the Earth was my absolute favorite, followed very closely by 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. Both are books I highly recommend reading. The imaginative landscapes are just fantastic.

But no one noticed the earrings or at least they didn’t say anything. And my memory search for the maker of both the earrings and the ring remain.

In addition to the surprise meetings I also have an upcoming evening I forgot about. Because if you look at your calendars you will see that today is Cinco de Mayo. My babydoll and I are meeting a few friends on the patio of our favorite Mexican Place tonight. It’s a locally owned spot with wide open spaces and fantastic food. So that was a nice surprise to balance out the unexpected meeting surprises. So this is the look I threw together when I realized I would have to see people. I will probably change out the lips and put on a more festive shirt for tonight.

Today’s Look:

Pre Makeup Base: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Primer: No Poreblem Primer from Touch in Sol

Foundation: Yensa BC Full Coverage Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing stick

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Kim Chi Puff Puff Pass Set and Bake Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: The Balm and The Beautiful Vol 1 from The Balm

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips: Real Her Lip Liner in Be Yourself Be Real Her

The name of today’s game was quick, easy and looking good for a work meeting. Which I managed I think. At least no one on my calls thought I was on my way to a clown convention, so that’s a good sign.

The Embryolisse made every thing apply extra easy. I put it on, then went rounding up products and tied up my hair. By the time that was done, I was ready to apply may makeup. The Touch in Sol primer I haven’t used in a while. No real reason other than it was on it’s side and rolled to the back of the drawer. It is a good primer. It blurs pores but isn’t pore filling and it is moisturizing without being glowy. It is neither matte nor brightening. It does have that silicone slippy feeling to it but i don’t mind that as long as it keeps the foundation from settling into my fine lines, which it does.

I went for the Yensa BC Foundation over the Serum Silk one I’ve been working with for the last two weeks because I did want a final comparison and Yes I do like the BC Foundation a little bit better. They are both great products, But this Skin on Skin formula is just my preference. I’ll still happily use them both, this is just the one I’d repurchase first.

The Trestique and Illamasqua are both easy reaches and beautiful products that I didn’t have to think about. which was the point today. They worked well with the face products underneath. And as I now have the hang of the Kim Chi powder I didn’t apply too much and things worked well. Given that the Yensa has a slight glow to it I didn’t bother with a highlighter. It just wasn’t needed.

The Balm palette was fantastic this morning when I reached for it. It applied easy, blended beautifully and I think looked good. I topped off the eyes with Stila mascara. It is getting low and will soon be empty. It is one that I will be replacing asap. (I’m doing a mascara inventory this weekend to see what products I have that I haven’t used before I repurchase though, but that is because I don’t like holding a lot of extra products.)

Then we get to the lips. I don’t know how evident this is, but I have been sorting through my odd collection of lip liners trying to figure out which ones I like, which ones I need to get rid of and what shades I am missing. Today I grabbed randomly and came up with the real her one. It is a retractable liner with a really nice point to it which makes it perfect for lining the lips. It is a but thin for filling the lisp in. Based on the color stripe on the end of the pencil I thought it was a deep berry almost burgundy shade. It was a lot brighter than I thought with much more pink tones. The formula is creamy and wears like a lipstick but i am not a huge fan of the color. I think I would wear this under a dark lipstick I wanted to brighten but it is too pink for me to wear on my own. It is a nice creamy formula though so I might keep Real Her in mind when filling out my lip liner shad range. I am just not a fan of the color.

And that was me today. I know, not the most fascinating of days, but at least when I sit down I will feel justified that I have certainly earned my margarita tonight. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

The Daily: May 4th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope all is going well with you today. As for me, my hair is a bit poofy again and there were some makeup issues, but we’ll get to that.

The park was still flooded and the fitness was all indoors. I sweated it out to YouTube videos. As it was more yoga than cardio there was sweating but I felt more stretched out and limber rather than completely sweated out. I know it is good for me and keeping everything limber is a good thing for life both now and in the future but I really do prefer the long walks. It takes up a lot of time, but I can use the time to sort out issues in my head or plan things. When I do yoga the only thing I tend to think is ‘I don’t think my body moves quite like that.’

well maybe that isn’t the only thing. I’m afraid I often think very mean thoughts about the instructors. They are all just a little too perky. It makes me think they are hiding something. Like a love of torturing overweight women and not telling them that they are double jointed and are missing a few vital organs and bones us normal people need to survive. I know it is just my fat getting in the way of certain movements but sometimes the things they do …

But I got through it. I’m still hoping that this week will miraculously erase the damage a month of issues added to my weight, but I am trying to maintain the workout without going crazily overboard in compensation. And yes I am a bit worried about stepping back onto the scale to confront the damage. I’ll be less focused on it once I see the numbers and then I’ll just let it go and deal with the damage. sorry to fixate, but at least it is a temporary fixation.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Ciate Dewy Skin Vitamin C Glass Glow Primer

Foundation: Yensa Super Serum Silk Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes in roof top tan

Blush: Illamasqua gel Blusher in Frission

Highlighter: Saint Luxe Liquid Glow

Powder: Kim Chi Puff Puff Pass Set and Bake Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: The Balm and the Beautiful from The Balm

Mascara: Blinc Ultra Volume Tubing Mascara

Lips: Huda Beauty Lip liner in Trophy Wife

Okay this turned out to be mostly about the primer so we will just blaze through the other products. Yensa,. Illamasqua and buxom preformed beautifully. The Illamasqua gel blusher is rapidly rising to the top of my list of fave products and I am thinking about getting additional colors so I can play with it year round. The Yensa foundation I’ve been testing and my full review will be up in the morning.

Loved the eyes, had issues with the primer

I really like the Blinc mascara although today I sneezed when it was still wet and had to deal with the fall out. But a sneeze at the wrong time can mess up any mascara. It still turned out well. It does more or less require a waterprroof eye makeup remover to remove completely, even if it isn’t the waterproof version, so be aware of that when you use it.

The Huda Beauty lip liner was a bit sticky but I ended up putting chapstick over it and that took the stickiness out. And I am now getting the hang of how much of the Kim Chi setting powder to apply to prevent a powdery look and now I love it.

I love the way The Balm shadows worked today and I like the eye look I cam e up with.

The Saint Luxe Highlighter is subtle and disappeared in the face of the primer. I think it needs to be an all over glow or paired with a natural look and a tinted moisturizer.

And so to the primer. Even though I recieved this a while back I never got around to trying it out. For a while it was primer- palooza with subscription boxes and I ended up with a lot of new ones to try, I have several actually that I still need to try out. I decided that since I knew how this foundation worked I’d try a new primer.

This primer is the Dewy Skin Primer from Ciate. First I should have tried it with an all matte foundation. Second, I think I might have applied too much, not only is it dewy to the point of greasy looking it feels heavy on the skin. One of the reasons I like serum foundations is that they feel feather light The Yensa is easy to forget that I am wearing. I felt this primer. Now it is a first use so that could be user error. I also need to check the base of the foundation and primer because they didn’t really want to work together at all. I haven’t had problems with this foundation, but today there were problems.

There was a little separation so I think the formulas might not be compatible. I am going to have to do some label reading. This looked very patchy and uneven up close. I’m not sure f that translates in the photos or if it is just an in person thing. Regardless, I did not like the result and after about an hour of wear I washed my face and spent the rest of the day au natural.

In general I like Ciate products so I don’t mind giving this one another chance. This is also why I tend to test products for at least a week before I decide if I like them or not. sometimes things don’t go so well with the first trial run. Today was not a good first use. However there is always tomorrow.. I’ll just need to spend a little time with the ingredients list before my next use of this primer.

And that was it for me today. Luckily the rest of the day is just me working alone at my desk while the rain pelts down outside. I’m thinking of using this as a face mask opportunity.

The Daily: April 26th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope all is going well for you today. Here it is pouring down buckets. And while it does more or less doom my walk, both today and undoubtedly tomorrow as the floodwaters take over the park, I am feeling a little smug. Over the weekend my plants went into the garden and now they are getting the benefit of the rain.

Looking out into the garden makes all of the pains feel worthwhile. Or at least justified. And it is most definitely letting me put the muscle cream from a recent Boxycharm to the test. I’m still forming my thoughts on that, so I’ll get back to you.

Today there was yoga in the sun room, which was actually quite pleasant. Normally when the sun is not out the sunroom feels very cold. today with the rain sheeting down it felt very pleasant. Kind of warm and sheltered. It was a nice way to get a work out in. I still prefer the walks, but I am okay with taking a break from them now and again. And the yoga kept me from getting antsy between end of the month wrap up projects.

Today’s Look:

Pre Makeup base: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Primer: Yensa Tone Up Primer

Foundation: Yensa Super Serum Silk Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzer stick

Blush: Illamasqua Colour Veil gel blusher

Highlighter: Saint Luxe Liquid Glow

Powder: Kim Chi Puff Puff Pass Set and Bake Powder

Eyeshadow: Sandbar The Mirage Palette

Mascara: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara

Lipstick: MAC Love me Lipstick Bated Breath

Today I made a specific choice to use liquid and cream face products because I wanted to test something out. Yesterday I felt a little powdery as the day wore on. Today I wanted to see if I could counteract that with cream products. But lets start from the base and work outwards.

I used Embryolisse to start as moisture is my skin’s friend. And really I do not use much. It is a fraction of what I would use when i used this as a moisturizer. It is just enough to plump the skin with moisture before adding products on top. And it is really working out for me.

Because I noticed yesterday that the silk serum foundation was not as glow-y as the BC foundation I went with a a kind of glow-y primer. It is the Yensa one. I have used this one off and on for years and absolutely love it. It is something that I have no problem reaching for and was happy to pick up today. It has a slight tint to it which helps reduce the need for a concealer.

My skin was a bit on the glow-y side but not overly dewy when I applied the foundation. I know dewy is the look a lot of people are going for these days but half of the time I see someone with dewy skin and I just think they look greasy. Especially if that someone is me. I just can only take a certain level of dewy before I reach for the powder to pat it off. It is a personal preference but I don’t see that one changing for me. I was okay with the level of dewy.

As I said I wanted to try cream products with my setting powder to see if I could find a balance and I think today it worked. I used two of my favorites, the Trestique and the Illamasqua and they worked really well for me. I am really starting to like cream products more and more for my face. I don’t know if they have gotten better (because I have tried some stinkers in the past) or if I am getting used to using them or if my skin has reached an age where they are preferred, but i do like them. And these are two of my favorites.

This was my first use of the Saint Luxe and it is something i am going to have to play around with to see how I like it. I so like that it has an applicator wand so that it can be dotted precisely on the skin. I will be playing with it for a while and then comparing it to a couple of other liquid highlighters.

Once the cream products were applied I went for the Kim Chi Setting powder. I love the powder puff. It is thick enough to be practical. It is an actual powder puff instead of a thin little bit of foam. To be honest, once this powder is empty I will be keeping the puff to use with my other setting powders. Mostly because I do like a powder puff over a brush for final setting powder. It lets me use less product and to put it where it needs to be. Over cream products a little of this powder went a long way. It dimmed the shine back, which for me was preferred. I like the slight tint to it. It suits my skin tone well actually (PPP03 Translucent, in case you were wondering). The first time I tried it, I did notice that it got a bit powdery. i don’t know if it was because I used too much or because I used it over powder products. This is only the second time I’ve used this. Today i used less and I used mostly cream products and my makeup is still looking fabulous. As it is a new product, I will still have to play around with it.

Today with eyeshadow I went with the one matte and one shimmer look to see how they played together and I ended up liking how they blended together. It is a super simple look. The matte brown did take a little bit to work with. it is just so highly pigmented that One dip into the pan, a tap off of the excess and then applied to the lids still requires a second clean brush to blend it down. So even a quick and easy look takes a little time.

And the look was finished out with the ABH mascara and the Mac Lipstick. Both tried and true. This particular shade of MAC I need to think about replacing soon as the level of lipstick has lowered considerably. It is one of my go to lip products. It is one I will reach for first and then often have to remind myself to use something else today. Of course I have been eyeing the Ruby from the line as well so when I order there may be a couple of shades coming my way. But that is a thought for a different day.

As for today, I am happy with the look. And I just saw the mailman pull up outside of my house. My Look Fantastic box for April was hung up in shipping and is expected soon and this month there was an issue with my Underclub subscription. Basically it was never picked up by the postal service. So even though they told me April will be shipped out with May’s subscription, I still feel it’s absence and keep looking in the post. It’s absence was greatly felt this month. Although the Underclub service team was really nice about things an got back to me really quickly. So I am off to rescue the mail from the rain and then it is back to work for me. We are approaching the end of the month and it has become madness at the desktop. But the good thing is that by Friday it will be over for the month and next week should be smooth sailing. Or at least a more normal work load.

Hopefully.

The Daily: March 29th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today I am in a much better frame of mind. Things are actually working as they should. Which is nice. Work may be work, but it shouldn’t come with extra road blocks. And while there are no real road blocks today, there is also no sun. It is a cold and dreary looking day outside and I am expecting rain at any moment.

I managed to get a walk in earlier (mostly because rain tends to flood out the walking trail for at least a day or two after the rain passes so I figured I’d get it in while I could. It was a strange walk though. The sky felt very heavy and it felt almost as though something was lurking above me hovering and waiting. I was actually the only one in the park but it felt like I was being watched. I know I wasn’t, because really, there wasn’t anyone there. It was just the sky.

It was the first time though I was happy to end the walk and get back inside. Today’s lunch was another of the Cacao Super Smoothies from Smoothie Box. This time I made it with Almond Milk. It was absolutely delicious, but I fear it may have made it a little too sweet. The almond milk paired with the chocolate and banana made it feel a bit more desert like than I planned. I think I am going to counter balance it with a Chomps Cranberry Habanero Beef Stick as my afternoon snack. It is only 90 calories so it fits well within my afternoon snack range and it is savory enough to counterbalance the sweetness.

I like almond milk but I always forget how sweet it actually is. It isn’t something I notice in cereal or as a dollop in oatmeal. Well actually in Oatmeal I kind of do notice it but it means I add less brown sugar so there it is a plus. I just forget about the sweetness when it is in the smoothies. I think Coconut water or coffee will be my next add in to the Cacao smoothie instead of the almond milk.

Which I know is a little more than you really want to hear about my lunch, so let’s just move on with the day’s makeup shall we?

Today’s look:

Primer: Lorac Light Source 3 in 1 Illuminating Primer

Foundation: Charlotte Tillbury Air Brush Flawless Foundation

Bronzer: Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua colour veil gel blusher

Powder: Becca Pink Haze (discontinued)

Eyeshadow: KVD Vegan Beauty Lolita

Mascara: Athr Beauty Big Bang Mascara

Lips: Zoeva Powerful Lip Twist

Today I used the Lorac primer which meant that I did not need a highlight. It is illuminating all on it’s own. For me it needs a matte foundation over it. I ended up using the Charlotte Tillbury, but I think this foundation needs to have a pore filling primer underneath it. i am already starting to see settling into the fine lines around my mouth. Also I did not use the Embryolisse under my makeup today and I can really tell the difference. this foundation feels much drier this afternoon than it has in the past week. That lait-creme as a pre makeup base really makes a difference.

I really like this ciate bronzer. It applies well and blends easily. After fiddling with the Nude Stix I was happy to use something that just works. And of course the more I use the Illamasqua gel blusher the more I like it.

I am still trying to use up the Becca Pink Haze. It did seem a bit more powdery today than usual. I don’t know if that is because it is nearing the end of it’s life or if my skin was just drier than usual. I think it may actually be a combination of both.

I just went for a single shadow which usually means I grab this KVD one, It is a nice color and one that works well for me. The mascara was an issue. I’ve been using it off and on for the past few weeks and it is already starting to feel empty. I think because I use so many layers to achieve the look I want it uses the product up faster. But it really shouldn’t be feeling this empty this fast. I’m going to keep using it, but I think it may not be long for the makeup bag.

And finally I went with the zoeva lip twist. The color is nice and the formula is creamy. The problem is that it is too creamy so it will never hold a point. I have a bit more application control with a traditional bullet lipstick. Despite the nice color, I will be using this up and letting it go.

And that was my makeup look today. It was for the most part quick and easy. I do miss the Embryolisse underneath. This is the final week of me using the moisturizer as my moisturizer for the test and after Friday I am just shifting the rest of the tube over to my makeup drawer as that is where it will do the most good.

But now, it is back to work for me. Have a great Tuesday everyone.
