The Daily: September 21st, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today is a day filled with last minute things. I am spending it wrapping up the last of my contracts that need to be done before I leave for my Mom’s house. Tomorrow I’ll do a last minute tidy before I begin my packing.

I have no expectations of it staying tidy while I am gone, but i will feel better if I leave the house clean. And so I thought today you might like to see what makeup I am taking with me. As I will only be using the makeup I take with me while I am gone, there won’t be any daily posts until I return (there will be regular reviews up). So I thought it would be nice to share what I am going to be using for the next two weeks.

I am actually taking a train case (mostly because I wanted to put my skincare and makeup in one easy to use case). Also since I will be going for two weeks instead of just for a holiday I am taking more full sized products rather than the travel and sample sizes that I usually travel with.

The train case is an old Caboodles one. I’ve had it for years and it does look a little rough around the edges from travel and there are stains inside. What I do like about it is that the case is easy to wipe down. There are actually far fewer stains than there could have been, I’ve just had this for nearly a decade and it has seen a lot of use. It is a well travelled case. Plus for the first two years it was where I kept all of my makeup. In addition to wipeable interior, this one also has metal corners which has also kept it going for a long time. The link will take you to the Caboodles site (Mine is the Medium train case) if you are interested.

But as with most things it is what is inside that counts. While i will go through the skincare tomorrow let’s take a look at the makeup now.

Primer: Tatcha The Silk Primer

Foundation: Yensa Skin on Skin BC Foundation

Powder/Bronzer/Blush/Highlight: Pur 4-in-1 perfecting powder palette

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stamp Kit

Eyeshadow: Naked Honey Palette from Urban Decay and Viseart Petit Pro Deux

Mascaras: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag and Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Magnet Mascara

Lips: Guerlain Velvet Longwear lip in Black Red, MAC Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath, So Juicy Plumping Gloss from Colourpop, Stay Glossy Lip Gloss from Rimmel London and Yensa Super 8 lip oil.

First I chose the Tatcha primer because it is my favorite. I know it will work and it is easy to use. While there are many primers that I really enjoy this one is my long term favorite and the one I will always repurchase. It blurs pores beautifully and works well both with my skin and under pretty much any product I pair it with. And when traveling a primer that isn’t going to cause problems is for the best. This isn’t the time to try something new.

The Yensa Foundation is also one of my top foundations. The BC foundation is just so beautiful on the skin. I tlooklike my skin but better. Even though I rotate through foundations, I have managed to use up an entire Yensa BC foundation this year. This is actually my second one of the year and I have enough product to get me through the two weeks and maybe a little to spare in this second one. I have already ordered a replacement, which should arrive while I am gone so I will have a fresh one ready for me when I return.

The Pur palette I am taking with me because it is an easy face palette to use and will travel well. I tend to travel with it a lot, mostly because it is a hard plastic case and won’t break but also because it is just easy. Pur is one of those hit or miss brands for me. There aren’t a lot of products I like from them but this palette I really do love using. For me it is one of their few hits.

The Urban Decay Naked Honey Palette I adore. It has all of the browns and golds and bronzes that ,my little heart loves to use. and the shadows work well. For me it is a fantastic everyday palette. I added the Viseart petite palette because it has some fabulously pigmented shades that are easy to work with and I thought that at some point I might want to take a break form the browns and having a few colors on hand might be a good idea.

I am taking two mascaras with me as well. The ABH Lash Brag which is very volumizing and the Benefit They’re Real Magnet which is extremely lengthening. They work well together and alone and are in my list of top mascaras. This Lash Brag has been open long enough that both product wise and time wise it won’t be coming back from this trip. I only keep mascaras a max of six months and this is nearing that time limit. the tube is also starting to feel close to empty. So I will take it and finish it up. The Benefit is new and has yet to be opened. And yes I do have a replacement ABH waiting to be opened when I return.

The brows I don’t want to think about so I am using the stencil and pomade from iMethod Beauty. While the stencils will remain in my makeup kit, I think I will run out of brow pomade during this trip or very soon after. while the stencils are fabulous the pomade is good mostly because it is the right shade for me. I may or may not replace the pomade with the iMethod pomade but I remain in love with these stencils.

And now the lips. You knew I wasn’t going to choose just one lipstick didn’t you. And In all fairness I should confess that there is a lip scrub and my Tatcha Kissu lip mask already in with my skincare. But I did think about my lip products. There is the lip plumping gloss. The Rimmel lip gloss has just a light shade that is just my lips but better. The MAC is my go to neutral. I almost always travel with a lip oil and the Yensa Super 8 is my favorite. This one is half way empty already. I have lost count of how many times I have repurchased it. And for a bold lip I am bringing the Guerlain lipstick.. Plus that is in a reusable case with a mirror which is always handy.

Of course my baby doll pointed out that it is heavy enough that it could also be used for self defense if needed. The case is a substantial and reusable metal case. It is quite fabulous and to be fair it is somewhat heavy. Not that I plan to throw it at anyone.

And so my darlings, these are the products I have chosen to take with me for my two weeks at my mother’s house. I think they pretty much cover any contingency that I might face. Into the train case it will go, along with the skincare (packed last minute). This is the makeup I will be wearing for the next two weeks and quite honestly I am very pleased with my selections. But now it is back to work for the final push to clear off the desk before I go. Have a great afternoon everyone.

The Daily: September 19th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Do you see the photo to the side? I know, some of you are wondering why I took pictures of my shoes. But those aren’t just any shoes. Look closely, do you see? That’s right, they are close toed shoes.

Those are actually two of my favorite pairs of shoes actually. I tend to wear them from fall through spring. Thy are getting a bit worn actually and I will soon be looking for replacements, but that is not the point. The point is that in the summer they live in the closet, in a heat induced hibernation. I simply can’t wear them in the summer because I will overheat. With the exception of my walking shoes I haven’t worn closed toed shoes since May. And truthfully since we hit our first 90 degree day the first week of May, sandals arrived with Cinco de Mayo.

If you look on the calendar t=you will see that Thursday Autumn officially begins. And while my tomato plants are still producing like it’s July and I am just now starting to harvest the first of the cantaloupes (Halloween melons anyone?) the temperatures have dropped enough that I felt justified in slowly edging out a few of my favorite early fall pieces. Like the shoes. It also helps that this weekend the strap broke on my sandals. While I purchased a couple new pairs in the spring this was the pair that I was hoping would last one more summer. You know that really comfortable pair that despite how fab they feel were discontinued by the brand and you can’t find anywhere any more? This was my pair. I hoped they had one last summer in them and they did, barely. So away they went and to make them feel like they survived to the end of the summer I took out the first of the fall shoes.

Not that I think the shoes actually care, but I am so ready for fall and it seemed like a good reason. I also felt like today needed a bit of glitter and I started taking out some fall makeup. But we’ll get to that below. Today though, I was feeling like fall, despite the overflowing tomatoes.

got a hair cut over the weekend. The bangs were trimmed and I had layers put in. It feels so much lighter and has a lot more movement.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: NARS All Day luminous weightless foundation

Setting Powder: Fenty Beauty Pro Filter in Cashew

Bronzer: Viseart Bronze Noix

Blush/Highlighter: Natasha Denona Bloom Blush and Glow Palette

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stamp Kit

Shadow: Maybelline Color Tattoo cream shadow in Knockout and Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow Foil

Mascara: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag mascara

Lips: Guerlain Velvet Lip in Black Red

like I said i was feeling fall today and for me that meant getting out an actual foundation instead of a tinted moisturizer. I went for the NARS because it is beautiful And it works well with the Tatcha Primer underneath. We all know I don’t need an excuse to use the Tatcha primer. It is one of my absolute favorites. It lasts forever and is well worth the price.

The NARS foundation is a good one. You have to shake it before use, especially if you don’t use t everyday. I always forget how little product you actually need for this foundation. A little goes a really long way and it lasts a really long time. It is a luminous formula that is still on the matte side. As you all know I am not a dewy look kind of person so for me this is perfect. it is brightening and works well. I did go a little heavy with it today because I simply forgot how little is actually needed. It is a thinner formula so it is more like a serum than a cream. Which is something to watch out for when applying. I might use this again tomorrow because I just like it.

The foundation is slightly too light for me (It is my winter shade) so I used the Fenty setting powder. It is in the shade cashew and is slightly too dark for me. The two paired well. By using the darker powder with the lighter foundation I actually got something that looks fine for me.

For the bronzer I reached for the Viseart. I like the formula and I was thrilled that it is now back in stock. For a long while they just couldn’t keep it in stock. It felt like taunting when I used it and it was out of stock. ‘Oh I like this bronzer but you can’t get it because it is out of stock. Ha Ha.’ Not that I was thinking that, but it felt that way. Now it is back in stock so I can recommend it again. It is a product that is more buildable than it is pigmented. For me this helps as i sometimes get my balance off so I like sort of drawing a light line on my cheek so I can make sure that my cheeks match before I build it up. It does blend very well also and I just find it to be a good product. And it is back in stock.

The ND Bloom palette sits in the back of the drawer because of it’s height but I really like it and need to find a way to bring it forward. I have a blush declutter coming up so perhaps once i clear a few products out I will find a way to adjust it’s location so I can reach for it more. I love the cream blush in this palette. I’m not as enamored of the highlight as I prefer something a little more subtle but I like it enough that when i take the blush out I will use the highlighter. I would still like just a pan of that cream blush though.

The iMethod stamp is a favorite so that I can get my brows to look like they match. The stencil is a permeant addition to my makeup bag, the pomade is however running very low. I will need to replace it soon. I like the pomade formula. I need to try it with my other formulas to see if they work as well with the stamp application.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag i like more and more each time I use it and I will certainly be repurchasing it. It has a fluffy hourglass wand and is fantastic with both volume and length. I haven’t had any problem with flaking either which is nice and again a reason to repurchase when this tubes time is done.

the semi dried out color tattoo was hard to work with but I do love the shade and that glitter

For shadows, I wanted to use the Glitter shadow from Hourglass. I just felt like a little shimmer for a Monday. Because of it’s size it is stored with my Color tattoos from Maybelline. So I took one of the mattes out to use. It is a bit dried out. and it was hard to use. So it doesn’t look the best and the eyes don’t match because of it, but it was still usable, barely. I may try the rehydrating with facial oil trick on it because when they aren’t dry they are fabulous. Today, not so much. We’ll see how the rehydration goes. I did love the Hourglass though. There is a little fall out mid afternoon because I didn’t use a primer. Also when I used the Hourglass with the Maybelline when it wasn’t dried out, the cream shadow helped lock in the Hourglass without a primer. They make a great pair actually. And if my attempt to save this cream shadow doesn’t work I will probably just repurchase it. It is a good formula. I may have to order it though as the drugstore almost never has the color I want when i go in.

And finally I used the Velvet Lip from Guerlain. I adore this formula. It is a bullet style lipstick but once it settles into place it stays there. I did not leave a trail of lip prints on coffee mugs and tea cups throughout the day. If it weren’t so pricey I would stock up on this formula in multiple shades. As it is, I will use this one down to the nub and purchase a refill. It looks great and is super comfortable to wear. Plus it has some weight to it so it feels extra luxe to use. Even if i am in a t-shirt working at my desk today, I felt super special putting it on. And it never hurts to use something that makes you feel special.

And so my darlings that is todays look. I was thinking fall and leaned into it hoping the weather would follow. I know we are due a few more sweltering days and it will be October before fall thinks about arriving, but I am hopeful and a little encouragement can’t hurt. So it is back to work for me now. Have a fantastic rest of your Monday.

The Daily: September 13th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Have you ever had one of those days where everything was just pleasant. I woke up this morning and the temps were in the low sixties with mostly sunny skies. I went on a walk and it was just lovely. They sun was shining but it wasn’t too hot. The humidity was low enough not to really be a major factor.

People walking dogs no longer looked as though they were punishing their fur coated friends by forcing them outside. Anything that was flowering or fruiting no longer is so the pollen count is lower than it has been since January.

I went on a long walk this morning and I can’t lie, I will be calling an end to my work day early to go on another long walk later this afternoon. I know tomorrow I will pay for it as I try to play catch up but we haven’t had a day this nice in a while and I am going to take advantage of it. I will just commit to getting up early and working late tomorrow.

Today needs to be enjoyed.

It also helps that my phone hasn’t rung once all day. As every time it rings it brings even more family drama or work freak outs, I am relieved by the silence. I’m sure I’ll pay for that too later, but honestly I need a bit of a break. Or even just someone to call with good news instead of more worry. That would be nice. For now I am just taking the silence and the pleasant weather as an excuse to walk in the sun and clear out some of the cobwebs.

Don’t worry, I’ll wear sunscreen. At the moment I am still using the Beekman 1802 Milk Primer Sunscreen. I like it but it is slightly greasy. This morning I pit it on and then put a slight dusting of powder on over it which made me feel better. And as it wasn’t super hot I didn’t seat and turn it into paste. It is a nice sunscreen and things do layer well over it, which is nice. because it needs something over it. Speaking of things being put on my face…

(I know, subtle transition, no?)

Today’s look:

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: One Size Turn Up the Base Powder Foundation

Bronzer: Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Georgia Peach Blush

Highlight: Jecca Blac Glow Drops

Eyeshadow: Lawless Beauty The Baby One Palette

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stamp Kit

Lips: Colourpop Lipstick in Band T

Setting Spray: Huda Beauty Glow Coco Spray

the almost out elf

I know some of you are thinking, again with the Elf primer. I know, I do try to change them up a bit. But I am almost out of this primer so it will be around until I use it up. Which won’t actually take long. And yes I do have another one waiting in the wings. It is simply one of those primers I don’t like to run out of . So rather than keeping this almost completely empty one around longer while I rotate through I am going to just use this until it is gone.

Plus it works really well with this foundation. Today I didn’t really want to spend a lot of time on my makeup and this was a great foundation to use quickly. It went on quickly and easily and as long as I have a pore filing primer underneath, it works well with my skin. without the primer it shows the texture. With, it is fabulous. At least thus far anyway.

The bamboo bronzer was still out so that is the one I used. I like it so i don’t mind. I like the quick and easy application of the benefit blush and now that I am used to using the stencils for my brows I am quicker with the stencils than I am with the brow pencil so I had no problem using it. I also like that my brows actually match each other. Brow matching is not my strong suit so I am happy to use the stencil cheat sheet.

Lawless is turning out to be a pretty good formula of eyeshadow. I like the way the mattes blend with each other without being muddy. they aren’t super pigmented which I really do like. The more I use the palette the more powdery the shadows seem though. I always tap the brush off before application so i haven’t had any problems with matte fall out on the face, but the inside of the palette is already a mess and I’ve only used it three times. The gold shimmer was used today and I used a dry brush with it. It applied well with a dry brush but there was a tendency to slip down the inside of the eye. I will be trying this with both a wet brush application and an eyelid primer as I test the palette to see if it can be reduced. it isn’t much of a slide but i would like to limit it.

with my lips today I went with a colourpop lipstick. this is the traditional bullet style. I really like the formula. I think this shade may be a little too neutral for me, but I think it might also be that I have been leaning into bold reds and mauves recently so it may seem a bit on the to neutral side. It is a really good formula and not that expensive. I always seem to order one shade off of the one I want though. I am not sure if that is me or if it is just the colors on my computer monitor. I may have to compare the products I have and how they look on me to the swatches on the screen and see if I can get my ordering right. I do like though that this lippie has the light scent of vanilla to it. It makes it a little more pleasant to wear.

And with the Huda Beauty I had fewer gloppy bits of spray today. I think it was just a first use kind of plop of liquid. The mist came out in a really fine spray today. We’ll see hw future uses cause it to react. It seems to be an okay setting spray, but it is a bit wet in general. Or at least wetter than I am used to with setting sprays.

And that is it for me. I am going to concentrate on knocking out the last of what has to get done today and then i am going to take myself on a really long walk to enjoy the sun, the cool breeze and pleasant temps. I will breathe deeply of air no longer chock a block full of allergens and I will give my brain some much needed down time.

The Elemis offer below ends on the 15th if you are interested in it. And ELEMIS just released their Advent Calendar. It contains 25 of their bestselling products and has a value of $732. It is well worth looking into. So many of my favorite skincare products come from Elemis and a lot of them are in this calendar. And it is the time of year where I always stock up on the Frangipane Scented products. To me that is just the entre into the holidays scent and so much fun to indulge in.

The Daily: September 12th, 2022

Good Monday afternoon my darlings. I hope yours is going well. Mine has mostly been working through a long to do list. All the calls came in last week and all the work gets done this week. Well this week and next actually as I leave on the 23rd. I actually feel like I am in a really good place.

I have actual dates and times for everything. I am able to clear most of it off before I leave so that the only thing I really have to worry about is my mom when I am gone. Over all it is a good place to be.

I am still a little stressed about her if I am honest. She sounds okay on the phone. I think a lot of her stress went away once all of her decisions were finalized and she could begin getting ready for surgery. I think my stress will fade once I am down there in person and she is actually out of surgery safe and sound. It is one of the hardest parts about living in a different place. Sometimes relief only comes when you can see things in person.

But now that she sounds more at ease I am not a stress level red any more. I’m more of a yellow with an orange tinge. I was deep in the red for a while so it feels a lot better to have that eased off.

This past weekend I made a big batch of sauce as our tomatoes are finally starting to come in. They grew all summer and they looked like they wanted to blossom, they just didn’t. Now that September is well underway they are starting to throw out handfuls of ripened fruit every day. I’ll probably make sauce one or two more times again before I leave. It freezes really well and since I make only the base roasted tomato sauce at this point it will freeze really well and be able to be used for anything. I like to season it more for the dish I am making when I actually use the sauce. But it is a good general stable to have on hand.

And this weekend I got my first and only melon from the vine. There won’t be any more, but this year i was astounded I got even one. It is a petit melon, only the size of a softball but we had it with prosciutto this weekend as a treat and it was fantastic. It was extra sweet so it went well with the salty meat. I’m glad that if I only got one melon this year at least it was a good one. There is an odd sort of consolation in that.

testing a blow out spray that left my hair looking a bit greasy

Today’s look:

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: One Size Turn up the Base Powder Foundation

Blush: NARS Blush in Angelika

Bronzer: Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer

Eyeshadow: Lawless Beauty The Baby One Eyeshadow Palette

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stamp Kit

Mascara: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara

Lipstick: Guerlain Velvet Matte Refillable Lipstick in #910 Black Red

Setting Spray: Huda Beauty Glow Coco Hydrating Mist

Okay first of all I want to apologize for my hair. I am testing out a blow out spray and it just made my hair look super greasy. I’m hoping I just applied too much, but I am still trying to work that out. It doesn’t help that my bangs need a bit more of a trim. I’m hoping to take care of that this weekend. Don’t worry, I will let a pro handle it. I have backed away from the scissors.

I always love my Elf poreless Primer. And as I tried this foundation with out a primer when it first arrived, I knew it needed a primer underneath. the foundation powder on it’s own did emphasize some of my larger pores. With the primer underneath, this foundation worked beautifully. I really like this actually. It is a buildable formula, so i can go as light and natrual as I want or I could go in for a more full look. well, not quite full. It seems to shift between light and medium. I don’t think it gets to full coverage, but as I rarely wear full coverage I am okay with that. It gets as full as I plan to wear it. Thus far it feels like a nice foundation. It doesn’t feel powdery. Although I didn’t put a powder over it when I applied it, because I generally don’t put powder over powder foundations. It did need a but of a pat with a pressed powder by midday as there were some oily spot showing through. I am actually looking forward to playing around with this over this week and next. Thus far, I’m pretty happy with it. But it does need a primer underneath if you have larger pores.

I went with the Ciate Bronzer today as it is a very adaptable tone. I can go very light with it or I can deepen it depending on what the foundation and my look for the day calls for. It is one that I usually use with new foundations. I’m actually quite fond of it in general actually. Ciate can be hit or miss on some products, but for me this bronzer is a definite hit.

This Nars Blush is also a hit. Which shouldn’t be surprising, Nars blushes are always good. I tend to no reach for this one as much because in the pan it looks very pink and sparkly. When swatched with a finger, the sparkles don’t show but it still looks very pink. It applies much less pink and there aren’t any sparkles on the cheeks. It’s one of those products I just need to remember I like so I reach for it, instead of opening it, thinking, ‘I don’t want sparkles’ and putting it back. Today I realized I have accumulated a lot of blushes and need to go through them to see if all of them are staying. I don’t think I have sorted them in a while. I actually took this out thinking, I’ll use it see the pink and sparkles and know it needs to go. Instead I took it out and realized how much I like it. So plus for the Nars, negative on the declutter.

I was thrilled with the way the Lawless Beauty Palette performed. It was pigmented but not over the top. I sometimes get a bit out of control if the shadows are intensely pigmented. This had a pigment I could build up. It also blended well. I used two of the mattes (Cherub and Sweet Dreams) and they blended well together. I added the silvery shimmer Little doll on the inner corner of my eye. I meant to just put a little but it proved more shadow than I planned. I had to tap the brush before applying but there was no fall out.

Today I used the most expensive lipstick I have in my collection. I keep a list of luxury products that I want to try. Sometimes I use them as presents to myself, usually for my birthday, other times as rewards for reaching significant weight loss goals. Because I have been so stressed lately my babydoll ordered this Guerlain lipstick for me as a treat. It feels so luxe in the hand. It just feels like quality packaging. And I have to say the product feels nice as well. The color is fantastically saturated. The lipstick feels soft and lot waxy at all. It glides on smoothly, like the velvet it is named for and it feels feather light to wear. It is my first use of this lipstick but I will be reaching for it often. I really like this first use.

I don’t always reach for a setting spray, And truthfully when i reach for a setting spray I generally only reach for my Benefit Porefessional Setting Spray. The mist is very fine and I like the way it performs. It is my go to. However I do have several setting sprays I have gotten through various subscriptions that I haven’t used. They are lined up on a shelf and I tell myself that i am going to test it out and then forget. So I have taken out the Huda Beauty one and will be testing it. It is sweet coconut smelling but not over the top. The mist is a fine one although there were a few splotches of wet on my face. I did tap it in with a makeup sponge. It was fine to use and I will keep using it for a while. Hopefully there won’t be a lot of splotches as it gets more use. we shall see.

And so that was my look for the day. I plan to roll through blushes for a while to see if all of the ones in the drawer are staying. and I will see how this foundation performs over time. Over all I am fairly pleased with everything today. I am a bit annoyed by the blow out spray, and will probably go for the dry shampoo in a bit. I am just testing to see if it gets worse throughout the day or if it stays this level. Either way for now, it is back to work for me. Have a great rest of Monday.

The Daily: September 8th, 2022

Oh my. Today has been a day where the phone simply did not stop ringing. It started ringing with my first cup of coffee. It rang as soon as I hung up and then of course it started beeping while I was talking to let me know that someone else was calling while I was on the phone talking.

Apparently there was some kind of rule about calling me before lunch. I’m not sure why there was a lunchtime deadline, but once the clock struck noon the phone calmed down. Maybe everyone went out to lunch and isn’t back yet. I keep glancing over to the phone wondering why it is not ringing anymore, even though I am glad to have a bit of a break. it threw my system off a bit but I am slowly getting back on track. Admittedly at lunch I had to reconfigure the schedule.

Once I shifted projects to have them complete before I left I started rolling them out. A few started going out last Friday with more going out this week. Apparently that was going to be gone at the end of the month and to find all sorts of things they thought I needed to talk about before I left. A lot of it is to schedule projects for when i return.

As we are entering the busy season it is understandable but it seems like everyone checked their schedule and freaked out at the same time. I think part of it might be that I will be leaving on September 23rd and not returning until October 9th or 10th. It caused people to flip the calendar page so to speak and while the holidays seem pretty far from September they start arriving in October.

And yes I consider Halloween the kick off to the holidays. In fact it is my favorite of them if I am honest. Anyway, I did manage my makeup before Chicken Little decided the sky was falling so let’s take the lull to go over it.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Face Primer

Foundation: CoverGirl Aquasmooth Foundation + sunscreen

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzer stick

Blush: Dominique Cosmetics Cream Silk Blush

Eyeshadow: Colourpop Blowin Smoke

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stamp Kit

Mascara: Milk Makeup Rise Mascara

Lips: About Face Matte in Take Aim

Okay today I specifically chose the Ole Henriksen primer to pair with the Cover Girl. First off I loe the primer and it does nice things for my skin. Second I wanted to try this with an illuminating primer. Yesterday I used this foundation with a really gripping prime and it turned out well. Today, the foundation was back to slipping a little as I applied everything else. I think that with the sunscreen this foundation formula needs a really gripping primer. It looks good but it was harder to work with since gripping isn’t the banana bright’s main function.

I did go light on the bronze and blush. Because the foundation was moving more, I I applied the face products and they moved the foundation a bit, so I had to go back in with the foundation over the bronzer and blush. it worked, but it was more trouble than it had to be. I like this foundation, it just needs to be worn with a primer that really locks it into place.

Today was the last day of the Milk Makeup Mascara. I was actually scraping bottom to apply it. The tube is now officially empty. A full size will be purchased as soon as I look over the current mascaras I have. I know about three of them need to be tossed and I have several waiting in the wings. The evaluation will be soon. (Mostly because I want it done before I leave so i will probably start that as I decide what makeup to pack to take with me.)

I still love the Blowin Smoke palette. however I want to reach for the same shadows to do a specific look and found myself forcing myself to try different ones. I went with the balck sparkle and the silver today. The silver is lovely (although I got a bit crazy because I was hurried between calls) and the shimmery black doesn’t really shimmer. It is also a little more powdery than the regular black. I suspect i will just reach for the regular black in the future. I like this palette and I like having it in my collection, but I know i am going to reach for it for a specific look.

Today I used the About Face Lip paint. I love the color and I love that the painted tip makes it easy to apply. It does bleed a little into the fine lines around my lips, not majorly, but enough that I notice. I just need a lip liner to pair with it and I will be fine. It also dries down well and relatively quickly. So there isn’t a trail of lip prints left behind me,. It doesn’t dry down to desiccated parched lip level though which is nice. I did find that after a few hours though I was reaching for my lip balm. it is dry but not overly dry, but the lip balm didn’t hurt.

And so my darlings that is me. And the phone is ringing again so I will let you go. Have a great day.

The Daily: September 7th, 2022

Once again the rain is falling. But at least the temperatures are going down. My garden doesn’t quite know what is going on. Some of the plants didn’t flower this summer because it got too hot too quickly. Now they are flowering. I have an entire melon vine now covered with little yellow flowers and three small bulges indicating melons might be on the way. All summer long the vine grew and i watered it to keep it healthy, but no flowers.

I suspect October might be the month of cantaloupe this year.

Other than that today has been a day spent at the desk. I am still trying to clear out a lot of projects, but the work load is manageable at this point. I suspect that once i return I will have found several things that have fallen through the cracks. But I suppose that is more or less inevitable.

Today, perhaps because of the rain and the temperature drop, perhaps because I reached for a fall-ish toned lipstick, I was feeling autumn in my bones. I set the summer scented candles aside and dug out one of the few left over from last year and decided to light it. the house now smells of warming spiced like cardamom and cinnamon. the cooler temperatures are only in the 80s so it might be a bit over reaching, but it makes me happy and that is what counts.

And I’ll admit, part of my wishing fall would arrive is that I am very ready for this year to be over with. It has been a brutal year on so many levels and I am just so ready to put it all behind me. I really want the clean slate of a new year. I know I have far too much to get done before then, but it doesn’t stop me wanting it, hence the candle. And the searching of my favorite candle sites this weekend to see if any autumnal scents have been released. I know I can’t be the only one ready to move forward.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Milk Makeup Hydrogrip Primer

Foundation: Covergirl Aquasmooth foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Eyeshadow: Colourpop Blowin Smoke

Eyebrows: iMethod eyebrow Stencil Kit

Mascara: Milk Makeup Rise Mascara

Lipstick: NARS Lipstick in Kirat

A lot of today’s makeup was dictated by the Covergirl foundation. It is a cream based foundation that not only applies better with a sponge, but really doesn’t like dealing with brushes. all brushes leave tracks on it so I used cream face products today. Actually I chose two of my favorites, the trestique bronzing stick and the Illamasqua gel blusher. Both i blended with my fingers because it was easiest.

The trestique was a little dark with this foundation and I should have gone in with a lighter touch, but it worked out okay in the end. This foundation is a light coverage foundation. There is a definite limit to it’s buildability. I went with the Milk Makeup Hydrogrip primer today because I really like the primer and because it is very gripping. And that is kind of what this foundation needs. I don’t know if it is because of the sunscreen in it or maybe the type of sunscreen in it, but this foundation had issues settling down yesterday. It kept wanting to move as I applied other things. With the hydrogrip underneath it worked so much better. It locked in place and I didn’t need the setting powder to keep it there, which made the look a little lighter.

I have to say i love the Blowin Smoke Palette. There is something about the grays and blacks that just appeal to me. I also have to say that this palette did inspire me to go ahead and order the Lime Crime Immortals palette. I’ve been eyeing it for a while and while it does have similar tones, it does had a little color to it. And as much as I love this palette, I kind of wanted one of the grays to have more of a purple undertone. It has a slight one but I just want to nudge it a little bit more. I suspect i will reach for this palette when i want a specific look because of the monochrome nature of it. however I am very glad I did purchase this because it is worth having in my collection. I also want to see how it compares with the Lime Crime but that will come later. either way this palette will be staying well after it’s testing phase.

And then we have the lips. This is a Nars Lip and I really love the formula. It is a traditional bullet lipstick, which after the mess of yesterdays liquid lip was somewhat reassuring. While I think this color is now discontinued, this is the third tube of this color I have owned. For a really long time this was my go to lip. i would wear a clear gloss to the office and then reach for this once the work day was done. I like the creamy formula of the nars lipstick and I love the pigmentation. It is something i always forget but need to remember. I really need to spend some time on the NARS website looking at lipsticks. But i always like reaching for this and the darker shadow palette gave me the excuse to do so. And yes I will be using it to reach for my darker lipsticks. I like the neutrals but I really move my deep shades.

And so that is me. And now it is back to work. It was a nice break but now I must return to paperwork and dreams of cool autumnal winds.

The Daily: September 6th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Personally I really enjoyed the three day weekend. While the rain kept me from doing much in the way of garden chores, I did get several very necessary things done in the house. Which was nice. I also took a little time and just sort of rested. I think I have been running a 100 miles a minute for the last few weeks so having a little time to just sort of take a breather was probably the best thing for me.

Sometimes, even when your plate is full, taking a few minutes of down time is the best thing you can do for your mental health. I always forget that until I take the down time and then i always remind myself to remember after I’ve taken the time. I need to figure out a better system, but hopefully the reminder will help you.

Speaking of reminders, I did something fun and fabulous this weekend. I pre ordered my Look Fantastic Advent Calendar. I know, it is September. The pre release list was just opened. They won’t ship until closer to the Holiday season. Unlike the people at the grocery store near me who already have a display of Santas and other Christmas themed décor items up for sale. (Seriously, they skipped both Halloween and Thanksgiving and went straight to Christmas in the final week of August. I am actually amazed at how offended by that I actually am. After all I haven’t even gotten out my Frankenstein Coffee mug.

the pre order I don’t mind though. Especially since the last three years they have sold out before I could purchase them. I have been trying to snag the Look Fantastic Advent Calendar for a while and just missing out. So the pre order went in. And then there was a Happy Dance. It was also nice to just feel like something went right for a moment. Even if it was something small. And even though I do put up an advent calendar post listing out all of the ones I think are worth purchasing, I generally limit the number of advent calendars I actually purchase. while cost is definitely a factor, I really like it to feel special and opening one or two nice ones instead of a bunch does keep them feeling special. There are always far more advent calendars that I want than I can realistically buy anyway, hence the post. I’ll still get a couple for family as gifts, but limit the number for myself.

Anyway that is the long winded way of saying that I managed to pre order the Look Fantastic Advent Calendar for 2022 and that they are now available for pre-order if you would like them. I am now avoiding any spoilers for the Look Fantastic Advent Calendar since I would like to forget what little I do know about it and treat it as a surprise. So with that said, let’s jump into today’s look shall we. I decided to take a little break from the neutral norm.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: Cover Girl Aqua Smooth Makeup + Titanium Dioxide Sunscreen

Setting Powder: Kim Chi Chic Beauty Puff Puff Pass Setting Powder

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Eyeshadow: Colourpop Blowin’ Smoke palette

Brows: iMethod Beauty Stencils with the ABH Dip Brow Pomade

Mascara: Milk Makeup Rise Mascara

Lips: Stila Stay All Day Lip in Rubino

I know usually I start with the base work my way out and then go from eyes down landing on the lips but today we need to start with the lips. Oh my do we need to start with the lips. I ordered the Blowin’ Smoke Palette from Colourpop and it arrived over the weekend. It was on sale (still is actually if you follow the link above). I’;ve wanted the palette for a while now, but always talked myself out of it. I think I was just wanting something more than the rosy tones and neutrals that I have been going for later and I have to say this was fun to play with. But that we will get to in a minute. The point is that once I put the eye makeup on a neutral lip didn’t look right.

While I have bee wearing more neutral lips a lot lately I love a good deep lip color. This Stila liquid lip is one that I always swatch when I think about decluttering my lips and then decide I just love the shade so much I can’t part with it and remind myself to wear it more often. So I went for it today. It is a messy liquid lip. It needs a lip liner to keep it from bleeding into the fine lines. It is also strange when drying down. It takes a while to dry down on the lips, but it sort of stains. So once you put it on your lips that is where it is staying. Which is why if you zoom in my lips are messy and crooked. This formula doesn’t dry down all the way and leaves lip prints everywhere. it also stains your lips and if you smear it it stains around your lips too. I am going to have to go in with a lip scrub tonight. I do love the color but have just such problems with the formula. The wand put too much product on the lips and then when i blotted, it smeared and touch ups were kind of a pain. I need to find this color in a different formula and just mark this tube as kept for color match not for wearing.

the foundation was a new one for me as well today. I saw this when i ducked into a drugstore over the weekend and couldn’t resist. It is really interesting. It has to be applied with a makeup sponge. You will get no where with a foundation brush and this product and actually using brushes afterwards will leave lines. It applied beautifully with a sponge. With the sunscreen in the formula though, it is a bit on the oily side. It was fine once I set it with the setting powder but it is a foundation that needs setting powder over it.

Also it doesn’t like brushes. At all. I use the Kim Chi powder today because it came with a powder puff. When I applied the bronzer I used a brush and then had to tidy up with a makeup sponge which I have never had to do with the Buxom Bronzer. I had a different blush out but went with the bareMinerals because it was a creamier formula applied with the fingertips. That worked better. I think this is just a foundation that needs cream products on top of it. I liked the way it looked so I have no problems playing with it to see what works, but any brush will leave tracks t seems.

I think I will try cream products tomorrow to see how it works out.

The Colourpop palette was fantastic. The brushes had to be tapped off because it was a bit powdery. But I think that part of that is because of the darker tones. This is a fun palette. It is full of grays and black tones with silvers. It is a really nice break from my regular palettes and I am really glad that i picked it up. I enjoyed using it today and I will enjoy using it the rest of the week. It makes a really nice break from the red tones and neutrals. The gray and black blended well and that silver was just absolutely fantastic. It will be interesting to see how long I find the palette interesting as it is fairly monochromatic and could get boring. At the moment I am loving it and I think it will be a really good addition to my collection.

The Rise Mascare from Milk Makeup remains super fabulous and I can already feel the tube starting to make the empty sound so soon it will be no more and I will need to purchase a full size.

If you have been following these posts for any length of time you will know I have fallen in love with the iMethod stencils for brows. Mostly because it is the first time my brows have actually looked like each other. Sometimes they are sort of related when I do them with out a stencil, sometimes they aren’t even in the same gene pool. So this has been fantastic for me. It feels a bit like cheating but i don’t care. However I do have several other brow pomades. And since the pomade from iMethod is running low I thought I would rotate the pomades with the stencil and tool and see how it worked. I went with the ABH Dip Brow today. it works fine with a brush, not so fine with the stencil. It is far too dark with the stencil. the formula worked well, which is nice to know, but the color is just off. I would need to get this in a formula several shades lighter to look right. But I like the fact that I can use it with the stencils.

And that my darlings is me today. A little bit different from the typical but I think I like it. I will probably be rotating through my darker lip shades but this is actually helping me decide which ones I need to let go. I love the Stila color. If I get a lip liner that can corral it I might be able to make it work, otherwise the formula is just too messy. Which is also good to know.

And so it is back to work for me now. Have a great rest of the day and I’ll see you back here tomorrow to share what is going on in my world. Until then.

The Daily: August 23rd, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. It is another humid day, but the temperatures have actually dropped. My morning walk was extremely pleasant actually. 68 degrees. Admittedly with the 70% humidity, there was still a whole lot of sweating going on.

I have to say it feels fantastic to be getting back to normal now. The morning walk, the regular work day, the meal plan. I don’t like to think of myself as a routine driven person but I have to say there is comfort in getting back to it.

I suspect that part of the comfort is feeling better with routine exercise. I hated remembering to add exercise in every day when i started my weight loss journey, but now I just feel better when I move a little bit each day and miss it when I don’t. I’ll never become a hard core fitness fanatic or gym rat, but a little daily movement really helps me feel my best. I do wish there was a reliable swimming pool near me though. I used to love swimming as much as I love walking and wouldn;t mind getting back into that.

Even if that does mean I have to put on a swim suit. That’s been an event I have put off for several years now. But I think I might be able to embrace it now, as long as I can find a pool to use. Perhaps I will begin the search over the coming weekend. And if I start in the off time maybe I will be comfortable in my swim suit by the time the pool is packed next summer. Its a theory anyway. And something to explore.

not sure why there is a strange shadow on my chest

Today’s Look

Primer: Tatcha The Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Real Her Power Wear Probiotic Foundation

Bronzer: Kim Chi Thailor Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Golden Georgia Peach Blush

Powder: Kim Chi Puff Puff Pass Setting Powder

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stencil kit

Eyeshadow: Nomad Cosmetics Berlin Underground Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash mascara

Lips: ColourPop Lipstick in Evil Queen

I am still testing out the Real Her foundation, but at this point I’ve realized it looks a bit better with pore filling primer than with a brightening one, so I went for the Tatcha instead of trying to make a more brightening primer work. Personally I think it turned out pretty well, and lets face it I love this Tatcha primer. I’ve been debating between the solid balm and the liquid version and to be honest I like them both and wouldn’t mind having both around (and just might pick up both) but if I had to choose one I think I’d go with the balm version. I like it just a little bit better. Both are in my top products list though.

The Kim Chi Bronzer I am still getting the feel of. I think it might be a shade too dark for me but if I go in with a light hand I think I can make it work. It is a nice formula and highly pigmented so a light hand would be advised even if it were my perfect shade. I still adore the Kim Chi powder though. It is a really nicely milled product and I still adore the powder puff. That I will certainly pick up again.

The Benefit blush is nice and light. Just a bit of a pink on the cheeks. I think it works a little better on my in the winter, but i still like it.

I also tried out the shadow moon eyeshadow guard today

As for eyeshadow. Yes I know I am still technically testing out the OFRA but I went to reach for it this morning and just didn’t want to. so I looked in on my favorite palettes and realized it had been a while since I used it. With the new palettes coming in from subscription boxes sometimes I forget to reach for my favorites. And to be honest the gunmetal blue shade of East Side Gallery was just calling to me. I couldn’t resist. It does tend to shed powder so be sure to tap off the brush before using. I think I enjoyed it more because most of the palettes I have been trying out lately have been reddish tones and I just wanted something a little different.

i used the Stila mascara with it. I really like this mascara and will need to pick up a new tube again soon. It just performs beautifully, even if the name Huge Extreme Lash is a bit much. It works so I’ll over look it.

And then for lips I was feeling the red of the Evil Queen. I know Colourpop no longer has it for sale, but it is still for sale on the Disney store in the Evil Queen Collection. That’s the link I put above. I like this shade of red but it is slightly pinkish for me. I think i need a dark lip liner underneath or something. I really like the deep blue reds and this is just slightly missing the mark. But I love it and still use it. I just might be looking for a dark lip liner. Actually I think I have a wine-y shade of lip liner that might do well under this. maybe I will try that tomorrow. We shall see.

But for today, this is me. I’m rather pleased with the look and it actually feels really nice to use a favorite palette rather than a new one to test out. I like testing things, but sometimes, I just like reaching for my favorites. Or really just reaching for the shades that appeal to me for the day. especially when i am slightly bored with the palette I am testing.

But now it is back to work for me. Have a lovely rest of the day my darlings.

The Daily: August 22nd, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope you had a fabulous weekend. I had a pretty good one. I spent a large time trying peppers to make paprika since they are now ripening thick and fast. I also dug potatoes and pretty much ruined my nails despite the gloves. But I do have a nice crop of potatoes and my nails will recover. Also for the first time i managed to plant melons and actually get a melon to grow on the vine. It is a cantaloupe style melon. I know, it doesn’t sound like much of an accomplishment but I have planted melons in my garden, in every garden that I have ever planted actually and for some reason I always get the flowers but never the fruit.

So as odd as it sounds I am doing the happy dance over the melon.

Beyond garden chores I mostly vegged over the weekend. I watched a lot of the Star Trek’s Lower Decks on Paramount+. It suited my mood and was fun.

Today I managed an early walk under threatening skies. Rain was threatening for most of the weekend, but held off until last night. Now even though it is a low percentage, the sky really looks like it wants to open up and the air feels weighted. But I still got in the walk. I was drenched when I came back, but technically that was the humidity and not the rain. And a quick shower sorted me right out. Plus I got in my exercise. I think this week might be beat the humidity rather than the rain. We shall see.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: RealHer Powerwear Probiotic Foundation

Bronzer/ Blush/Highlight/powder: Pur 4-in 1 perfecting Powders Palette

Eye Shadow: OFRA the Signature Palette Symphony

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stencil Kit

Mascara: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Lips Mac Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath

Today I started with one of the primers I always keep around. It is the Elf Poreless Putty Primer. It is $8 I think and it is so worth picking up to keep around. I have the original version but they do make a variety of formulas now. I’ve tried a few of the others, but this is the one I really do prefer.

I am still testing out the Real Her Foundation so I am switching out primers. I think it worked well with this primer. The foundation is matte, but it isn’t a flat matte. It has a little bit of depth to it. I did use a little bit of highlighter under my cheeks but the rest of the products were matte and there is still a bit of a glow. I may try an illuminating primer with it to see if they can be paired or if I find it too much. But I like the way it turned out today,.

I am still testing out the OFRA Palette and today I simply used the one brownish shade and a little of the highlight in the inner corners. The brown is not as deeply pigmented as the cranberry shade, but this was still only one dip in the pan for the eyeshadow. I like OFRA shadows, but I have to admit I am getting a little bored with this palette. I think it is one that I can easily use, but not one I can use every day for a long period. I am actually kind of ready for the review to be over. I think I will end up reaching for this palette in the future but it will be for the day, not the week.

I am thrilled with how my brows came out. I do need to do some clean up with the tweezers but the iMethod worked beautifully. The Pur palette is always a favorite. It worked beautifully as always and you know i love Mac Lipsticks. This one is my go to neutral and I am going to have to replace it soon. I went with the Eyeko Black Magic Mascara to finish off the look. Usually I say I prefer the Lash Alert, which I do, but after using the Lala Beauty mascara last week, this mascara feels fabulous by comparison. I’m not saying the other was bad, but at no time did I use it and not end up having to clean up transfer from under my eyes. It just takes longer to dry and I had issues with every use. It made the Eyeko which is a good mascara feel utterly fabulous. It went on, it looked good and it dried quickly without making a mess. So today Black Magic was just fabulous. which isn’t surprising. Eyeko does really good eyeliners and mascaras. So even though Black Magic is generally second to Lash Alert in my opinion, it is still a fantastic mascara.

And that my darlings is me today. I feel well rested and slightly smug about getting my walk in before the rains returned. It has also been a really productive day so I also feel good about spending the weekend resting between bouts of garden chores. Admittedly tonight I may end up needing to do nail triage. Hopefully there will be some survivors. I hope your Monday is going fabulously well.

The Daily: August 16th, 2022

Today there wasn’t a cloud in sight. No rain predicted for the entire day. And the humidity was only around 80%. It meant that I did sweat buckets while walking this morning, but it does mean that there was not an overwhelming misery to the walk. It was actually almost pleasant.

i also like the fact that my world seems to be getting back to normal. I will say that this weekend I did more or less binge watch various Star Trek formats on Paramount+ for large sections of the weekend, but I think the rest did well as yesterday I managed a regular walk with only a little weariness and shortness of breath at the end while today was the regular walk without the feeling of being completely out of breath when it was done.

I was pretty sure I shouldn’t even remotely attempt a second walk, but the first one was just fine. Ah normality, blissful normality. I know not exciting, but fabulous just the same.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Ole Henriksen’s Banana Bright Primer

Foundation: Real Her I am Divine Powerwear Probiotic Foundation

Blush/Bronzer/Highlight: Realher Ultimate Glow Getter Cheek Trio Palette

Eyeshadow: OFRA Signature Symphony Palette

Mascara: Give them Lala Beauty Mascara

Brows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Stencil kit

Lips: Lawless Beauty Forget the Filler Lip Plumping Gloss

Today was an interesting makeup selection. Part of it was prompted by the rummage through the backs of drawers after I found the unopened Becca Foundation yesterday. The primer is one of my favorites for just a little bit of glow. The banana Bright primer gives me the kind of healthy glow that I like without tipping into too shiny for me. I know the very shiny look is popular but it makes me feel like i look a little greasy. this is a glow without the grease factor for me. Plus it smells like banana candy. It is a really good brightening primer.

The Real Her foundation I pulled out of the drawer because I can’t actually remember if I’ve used it and if I did how I felt about it. I am going to have to go back through my reviews to see, but I honestly didn’t remember this foundation. In general though foundations don’t hang around if I don’t like them, so if I tried it I knew I liked it enough to keep it past the trial date. So I decided that I would use it today. I liked it. The foundation blended out well and it has been wearing well throughout the day. It is a bit more full coverage than I am used to which might account for why I don’t reach for it a lot. I am liking it though and looking forward to trying this out a bit more. I think it ended up looking pretty good today.

To pair with it I did choose one of my favorite face palettes which is the Ultimate Glow Getter from Real Her. This is one of the few face palettes I used enough that I actually had to replace it. This is actually the second of these that I have owned as I wore the first one down to pan. The bronzer and blush are both buildable. The highlighter is okay. I will use it when I bring out the palette, but it isn’t something I would reach for on it’s own, where as I will reach for either the blush or bronzer.

This is the second use of the OFRA palette and to be honest, I think that today’s look is very much like yesterday’s look. Admittedly both today and yesterday I started off reaching for the cranberry shade and I I think that it is just a shade that takes over. Tomorrow I will skip the cranberry and see if I can get a different look from the palette. I think that is always the trick with a five pan palette. Often I reach for the same shades in the same order so each use of the palette looks the same as every other look of the palette. Especially if there is one really bold shade, like the cranberry. I do like this look, but tomorrow we will skip it and try for something different.

This Lala mascara is kind of interesting. Thus far I have not managed to apply it without getting transfer from the lashes to my under eyes. I think that this mascara just takes a little longer than most to dry, which is something to take into account. I seem to be doing a lot of clean up with it.

The Lawless gloss is a lovely gloss and I am happy to continue to use it as a mostly clear gloss.

and that my darlings is me today. I think I may keep this foundation out for a little while to see how it performs with different primers, and to figure out why I can’t remember using it before now. over all, things seem to have worked out well today. But now it is back to work. Paperwork will only wait for so long. Have a fabulous rest of Tuesday.
