Good afternoon my darlings. Have you ever had one of those days where everything was just pleasant. I woke up this morning and the temps were in the low sixties with mostly sunny skies. I went on a walk and it was just lovely. They sun was shining but it wasn’t too hot. The humidity was low enough not to really be a major factor.
People walking dogs no longer looked as though they were punishing their fur coated friends by forcing them outside. Anything that was flowering or fruiting no longer is so the pollen count is lower than it has been since January.
I went on a long walk this morning and I can’t lie, I will be calling an end to my work day early to go on another long walk later this afternoon. I know tomorrow I will pay for it as I try to play catch up but we haven’t had a day this nice in a while and I am going to take advantage of it. I will just commit to getting up early and working late tomorrow.
Today needs to be enjoyed.
It also helps that my phone hasn’t rung once all day. As every time it rings it brings even more family drama or work freak outs, I am relieved by the silence. I’m sure I’ll pay for that too later, but honestly I need a bit of a break. Or even just someone to call with good news instead of more worry. That would be nice. For now I am just taking the silence and the pleasant weather as an excuse to walk in the sun and clear out some of the cobwebs.
Don’t worry, I’ll wear sunscreen. At the moment I am still using the Beekman 1802 Milk Primer Sunscreen. I like it but it is slightly greasy. This morning I pit it on and then put a slight dusting of powder on over it which made me feel better. And as it wasn’t super hot I didn’t seat and turn it into paste. It is a nice sunscreen and things do layer well over it, which is nice. because it needs something over it. Speaking of things being put on my face…
I know some of you are thinking, again with the Elf primer. I know, I do try to change them up a bit. But I am almost out of this primer so it will be around until I use it up. Which won’t actually take long. And yes I do have another one waiting in the wings. It is simply one of those primers I don’t like to run out of . So rather than keeping this almost completely empty one around longer while I rotate through I am going to just use this until it is gone.
Plus it works really well with this foundation. Today I didn’t really want to spend a lot of time on my makeup and this was a great foundation to use quickly. It went on quickly and easily and as long as I have a pore filing primer underneath, it works well with my skin. without the primer it shows the texture. With, it is fabulous. At least thus far anyway.
The bamboo bronzer was still out so that is the one I used. I like it so i don’t mind. I like the quick and easy application of the benefit blush and now that I am used to using the stencils for my brows I am quicker with the stencils than I am with the brow pencil so I had no problem using it. I also like that my brows actually match each other. Brow matching is not my strong suit so I am happy to use the stencil cheat sheet.
Lawless is turning out to be a pretty good formula of eyeshadow. I like the way the mattes blend with each other without being muddy. they aren’t super pigmented which I really do like. The more I use the palette the more powdery the shadows seem though. I always tap the brush off before application so i haven’t had any problems with matte fall out on the face, but the inside of the palette is already a mess and I’ve only used it three times. The gold shimmer was used today and I used a dry brush with it. It applied well with a dry brush but there was a tendency to slip down the inside of the eye. I will be trying this with both a wet brush application and an eyelid primer as I test the palette to see if it can be reduced. it isn’t much of a slide but i would like to limit it.
with my lips today I went with a colourpop lipstick. this is the traditional bullet style. I really like the formula. I think this shade may be a little too neutral for me, but I think it might also be that I have been leaning into bold reds and mauves recently so it may seem a bit on the to neutral side. It is a really good formula and not that expensive. I always seem to order one shade off of the one I want though. I am not sure if that is me or if it is just the colors on my computer monitor. I may have to compare the products I have and how they look on me to the swatches on the screen and see if I can get my ordering right. I do like though that this lippie has the light scent of vanilla to it. It makes it a little more pleasant to wear.
And with the Huda Beauty I had fewer gloppy bits of spray today. I think it was just a first use kind of plop of liquid. The mist came out in a really fine spray today. We’ll see hw future uses cause it to react. It seems to be an okay setting spray, but it is a bit wet in general. Or at least wetter than I am used to with setting sprays.
And that is it for me. I am going to concentrate on knocking out the last of what has to get done today and then i am going to take myself on a really long walk to enjoy the sun, the cool breeze and pleasant temps. I will breathe deeply of air no longer chock a block full of allergens and I will give my brain some much needed down time.
The Elemis offer below ends on the 15th if you are interested in it. And ELEMIS just released their Advent Calendar. It contains 25 of their bestselling products and has a value of $732. It is well worth looking into. So many of my favorite skincare products come from Elemis and a lot of them are in this calendar. And it is the time of year where I always stock up on the Frangipane Scented products. To me that is just the entre into the holidays scent and so much fun to indulge in.
Good afternoon my darlings. I hope you are having a fabulous Monday. This was a relatively quiet weekend for me. Saturday morning, my babydoll remembered there was one person on the list we hadn’t shopped for, so we did a quick foray into the wilds of retail to get it done before we could think about it too much.
Well we thought about the gift, we just didn’t dwell on how bad traffic and shopping on a Saturday would be. We emerged victorious. And I managed to pick up a Chi Thermal Care hair care Trio. I have used the Silk infusion before and really loved it. It was fantastic at helping my hair go longer without having damaged ends no matter what I did to it. However I never tried the shampoo and Infra Treatment (conditioner) pairing before.
I tend to do that with a lot of brands without meaning to. I find one item that I really like from them and then forget that they actually make other products. With Chi it was the Silk infusion. So as a reward for getting the last of the shopping done, I picked up the trial sized trio. Trial sized or not, I know the silk infusion will last a really long time because I use so little of it. But now I get to try the other two products.
I love the holiday bundles. It is the same love I have for perfume discovery kits actually. The bundles help get me out of my comfort zone so that I don’t just buy the one product I know I like, but actually try out other products from the brand. I’ll be posting a first use soon. I just need to finish up the shampoo and conditioner I am currently using. Its the Pantene Volumizing shampoo and Conditioner set. I know I already posted a full review, and my thoughts haven’t changed as I’ve used it. It only gives volume on the day it is used and does not carry over to the next day. I find myself washing my hair more often with this set then I normally do as well. I can’t decide it if it the product or the time of year that is causing the extra washing. we dropped lower over the weekend and the central heating came on more so it may be unfair to blame the shampoo. I may have to try it again at another time of year. But for now, I am finishing it up and then trying out the CHI.
Today was a fun look for me as I was playing with a couple of new products as well as using a couple of my standard faves. I generally find paring new with favorites works out better for me as So let’s start at the top. We have the porefessional from Benefit cosmetics. It is a long term fave and one that I am going to have to replace soon as it is getting low. It is a good standard prime to have in the arsenal. It goes well under most foundations and it is very pore filling.
The more I use the No 7 serum Foundation the more I like it. This is going to be a permanent edition to my dressing table. Once I’ve used it up. it will automatically be replaced. This far this shade suits me well regardless of the time of year. Admittedly I tend not to wear actual foundations mid summer. If I did I might need a second shade. However as I tend to go for tinted moisturizers about the time that this foundation would be too liht, it isn’t a problem for me.
The Buxom bronzer is new to me. Buxom is one of those brands that as soon as I hear the name I think Lips. I love their lip products and have purchased them for years, but I rarely branch out. This year since, despite my declutter, I still have far too many lip products, I picked up a bronzer from them to try out. Like pretty much everyone else right now they have massive sales going on. (the link above will take you to their site). This is my first you of the bronzer and I am impressed. It is a bit on the lighter side. Mostly because I noticed most of my bronzers were summer dark and I was having to work really hard not to go too deep with them. This is a lighter bronze that is still within my skin tone range. It applied well, and blended easily so I think I will get a lot of use out of it this winter. It will be interesting to see if I can use it as my skin tans next summer or if this is a seasonal shade for me. I will be reaching for it more to keep trying i out.
The blush I love. It is my bareMinerals Bounce and Blur blush. The formula is just so easy to apply and so comfortable to wear. I love this shade as well so it is a mega win for me and a blush I will continually return to using.
The jecca glow drops I like but tend to forget I have. I think they are supposed to be used all over the face but that is way too shiny a look for me. It makes a great subtle glow on the high points of the face and a gentle warmth to the skin. which is more important as the colder weather progresses. Not only will I be losing my tan, but around here the winter wind tends to slap you in the face and steal color from your skin so that you look pale and sickly. Or at least I do. Except for my nose. The winds tend to turn that Rudolph Red, or as close to it as possible.
The eyes were an interesting mix today. I reached first for the KVD because I like how the shadow performs, love the color and didn’t have to worry about it. The Hourglass foil shadow is new to me. I think I am going to have to play around with it. It is more powdery than I expected it to be and it really didn’t like applying with a dry brush. I ended up using my finger which was a bit messy, but I wanted my first application to be without the use of a setting spray. I wanted to see how it applied and how well it stayed on the eyelid without the spray (also why I didn’t use setting spray today). Thus far it is okay. I’ll play with it a bit more as the week progresses.
The mascara and lip product both came from the Macy’s bag. I am impressed by the first use of the mascara, not so impressed by the lip. The mascara lengthened very well. Thus far it isn’t flaking. It is supposed to volumize and lengthen. It lengthens well, not so much with the volumizing. But I like the lengthening enough to play with it.
The lipstick from YSL isn’t my favorite. I know it is supposed to be moisturizing but it feels a little slimy. And it tastes like lipstick. I know lipstick that tastes like lipstick is kind of normal. But this is a super enhanced lipstick scent that tastes/smells like it is mixed with some sort of perfume. There is no drying down at all and I have left a trail of lip prints behind me today. It was almost a relief when it wore off. The color is not my favorite, but I could work with it. I may see if blending it with another product helps with the texture and taste. Over all, I am not terribly thrilled with this lipstick. It is a pretty case, but the product isn’t going to win any prizes. At least not from me.
But hey, at least I have found a range of lip products where I don’t want to add multiple shades of the brand to my collection. Sometimes its about learning which products you don’t want to buy just as much as it is about finding the ones you love.
So that my darlings was my look for today. As far as fitness goes, I braves the winds and went on a long walk in the cold sunshine. There is no more walking in just shirt sleeves anymore, the sweatshirts have emerged. While I am not fond of the cold, I try to tell myself that I expend more energy keeping myself warm as I walk then I do when I don’t have to warm my own skin. I’m not sure I believe it, but it made me happy on my walk. And some days it is just about convincing yourself that you need to get up and move instead of huddling around the coffee cup.
Oh the best laid plans…when last we spoke I was enjoying the Annmarie Skincare Charcoal and Cacao Facemask and chopping vegetables in preparation for a delectable Friday night happy hour. But alas it was not to be. I chopped the onions and was reaching for the mushrooms when it was time to remove the mask.
I took my mask off, delighted in the fabulous skin left behind. I wrote up my thoughts for you and returned to the kitchen. My plan was to finish my chopping, caramalize the onions and then add the mushrooms. Once they were all cooked up I was going to add in the coat cheese, let the filling cool and wrap it in puff pastry, cooking until the pastry triangles were crisp.
Unfortunately as I went back for the mushrooms, my phone rang. A little over a year ago my babydoll replaced his car. There was something that needed fixing on it at the time so he didn’t trade it in. He planned to get the issue fixed and then sell it to a friend of his. He got the issue fixed but then his friend kept putting him off. And eventually the deal fell through. Mostly because last year changed a lot of things.
My babydoll decided to hold onto the old car for a little while to figure out what to do with it. Periodically he takes it out to make sure everything is still running appropriately. Friday he realized he hadn’t taken it out in a while and he decided to drive it to work. It was fine going in but apparently the battery died sometime during the day so I had to run out and pick him up. He had a pretty rough day all around and asked if we could just pick up dinner along the way. Which we did.
The chopped onions were used with hash browns on Saturday and This Friday I will try again with the puff pastry triangles. Luckily the rest of the weekend was quiet. More for my babydoll’s sake than mine. Last week was a bit rushed because it was a short week, but his week was calamity after calamity with the cherry on top being the dead battery so he really needed to just collapse for a bit and recharge. I’m hoping he has a much better week this week. As for me I got to catch up on the show Billions. Paramount + has Seasons 1 – 3 streaming until October 4th. I’m trying to get through all three seasons before then, so there will be repeat binge sessions. Besides I needed a bit of a break from horror and murder which seems to be taking up the bulk of my television time lately. I’d worry but as everywhere near me has already started putting out their Halloween decorations I think it might be something in the air. Regardless, Paramount + is now turning into one of my favorite streaming sites (I think it is $4.99 per month. This link will take you there if you want more details)
Okay lets start with the primer. I know what you are thinking. Didn’t Mimsy just do a primer declutter? I don’t think this was mentioned. Good eye. It was not. Because of the bulky packaging this Glam Glow Primer, my Illamasqua Primer and my Stila Primer were moved to a different drawer. I forgot all about them when doing my declutter, so I will use all three this week and cover them here. Today is of course the Glam Glow. I do like this primer. It smells of licorice and it is super mattifying. I actually chose it today because we have something like 97% humidity. Even sitting indoors at my desk, I am bound to get sticky. So today was it’s day to shine. Or at least to keep me from shining. As much as I like this primer, I think I would have to think a while before repurchasing it. The package is bulky and there isn’t a lot of product in it. There is far more package than product. It is nice to have and I will happily use this until it is all gone, but I think because of the amount o0f product in the package, I would only purchase this when it is on sale. It is a great primer, but there just isn’t a lot of product.
The Revolution Fast Base Foundation stick is a definite repurchase. It is an excellent foundation, that doesn’t cost a lot of money and it is perfect for travel as it can’t spill. It can leave the skin looking a tad on the shiny side, so be prepared with a powder. Today’s powder is my long term fave, No 7. Do I need to say I’d repurchase this? Probably not, but I will. This is a staple of my makeup bag and has been already repurchased so many times I have lost count.
The bronzer however is new to me. I have to say I was super excited when this came in the mail the other day. No I don’t have fairies dropping bronzer off at my house. Although really, how cool would that be. The magic makeup fairies… Anyway, no. I ordered it. It was very satisfying to get though. A while back I realized that the only item I didn’t have in my collection from Ciate was a bronzer. I had every other type of product. So I thought, Oh I’ll get the bronzer and then do a full face of Ciate London products, won’t that be fun? So I went to order it. It was out of stock. Then it came back in stock and I forgot I was going to do a whole face of Ciate and thought, I have enough bronzers. So I didn’t order it.
Then I remembered and went to order, and it was out of stock again. There were a couple of other missteps but I finally got around to ordering it and here it is. Of course now I have finished both mascaras from Ciate that I was using and accidentally broke the highlighter. So no full face at the moment. But I’m sure I will at least get a mascara in soon. The Ciate Mascaras are on my reorder list and I’m sure I will reorder before the bronzer runs out. So this was my first use of the bronzer. It was nice actually. I’m sorry it took me so long to order it. The bamboo bronzer is a nice shade for me and is more buildable than highly pigmented. I really like that actually as it keeps me from having to blend out harsh stripes. The shade I am using is South Beach. I really like this first use of the product and I am looking forward to using it for a while. It is also a lovely looking compact to thats always nice too.
There was another new item in my look today and it was the Steve Laurant Wild Thing eyeshadow palette. It is not exactly a new palette. I received it in a subscription box a while ago but I can’t remember ever using it and when I went through the palettes to declutter I couldn’t remember using it. It also looked untouched. So I decided to give it a go this week. This is my first use of it and I can’t say I am all that impressed. For something called Wild Thing, it is incredibly tame. The small two inch square palette would be perfect for slipping into your bag to touch up work makeup. Because this is really a neural office palette, despite the name. This far it isn’t highly pigmented. I’m going to be playing with it this week and I’ll keep ypu poster.
The other kind of new item is the Zoeva Lip Twist. I used it once before. It is extremely sorft and on my first use the point of the lip crayon sheered off. It does have a sharpener on the end, but I decided not to use it and just use the lip crayon with a flat end. This is working pretty well. I think it I were to sharpen it, the point would fall off again and I would just waste product. It is a neutral enough color that it works. I think if this were a bright color than I would have to use a brush to get clean lines, but the neutral works well as it is. It feels a little waxy o0n the lips so I’m not sure if I would order more colors in this formula. It is a nice neutral but I think this may be my only powerful lip twist from Zoeva. I just have many other products I like a lot more.
The last product I really want to mention today is the setting spray. You’ll notice it is not Farsali. That is because I finally finished the Farsali Setting Spray over the weekend and decided to celebrate by reaching for the Benefit Cosmetics. This setting spray has an ultra fine mist and really helps lock in product. The scent is reminiscent of the Porefessional Primer, which I happen to like. But it is a light scent. It is a much lighter scent than the Farsali and was kind of a relief to use. The Farsali was nice, but that scent was too much. I was happy to be able to switch out products once again.
And that was pretty much my makeup for the day. And now that this pleasant interlude is over, I must get back to work. I hope your Monday flows smoothly and easily.
Do you know, it honestly didn’t occur to me until yesterday that yesterday was a holiday. And that I was supposed to be elsewhere. I worked until about eleven yesterday and then my babydoll reminded me that we were supposed to be going to a picnic in the park followed by an evening barbeque and fireworks display.
Apparently everyone went to the city sponsored fireworks on Sunday but couldn’t resist playing with their own on Monday.
My baby was concerned as nothing had been assembled for wither event so I raced through making a picnic lunch and then set up a side for the barbeque. Luckily someone else was grilling.
And so yesterday featured no daily post as I didn’t get home until quite late.
It was a nice day though. I think that because so many gatherings were skipped last year, every opportunity has become an EVENT. I don’t mind going all out for an event but it does make me a little scared to contemplate New Year’s Eve 2022. People will either get things out of their system or release the festivity in nearly toxic waves.
But that is six months away so perhaps things will have settled down at least a little bit. I needless to say did not make it to the gym yesterday. Today is not a gym day, but I did manage to get a walk in this morning. As the rest of the morning was spent catching up from things missed yesterday, I feel like today sort of slid by in a rush.
I did manage to take a few minutes of quiet time to put on my makeup today. It was actually a nice break.
Today I knew I was trying out a new primer so I picked up my favorite foundation, the Ciate London Extraordinary. The color is perfect for this time of year and my skin tone and it is lightweight enough that I don’t feel it. It is rapidly becoming my go-to foundation actually.
Tis was my first experience with the GlamGlow Primer. I was surprised that it was gray in tone and it oddly smells of licorice. I’m going to have to look into it a bit more. I suspect there is licorice root extract in it due to the scent and I suspect the color might be due to charcoal. It is mattifying and thus far it is doing a good job keeping down the shine. I’ll have to play with it a bit more before I make my final decision.
I am liking the Jecca Black Glow drops and the Benefit Cosmetics Magnet mascara more and more each time I use them and plan to keep both around. The Magnet Mascara is a sample size and it is running low. I just need to figure out if I like it more than Bad Gal Bang or if i should just switch between the two when I make my next mascara purchase. I actually need to do a mascara inventory soon. I have several that need to go, but I also have several in my to try out drawer that I need to rotate in.
Today was the second time using the Otherworldly Eyeshadow Palette and I was very impressed with it. I went for the more staid colors today, mostly. I used a sort of reddish toned brown with the darker brown on top and a yellowy orange shimmer on the inner corner. I avoided the purple glitter. While the purple glitter had a lot of fall out, I didn’t have much of a problem with any other shade. The colors applied well and blended easily. I didn’t even need too dampen the brush when applying the shimmers. I’m sure they would be brighter if I did, but I only wanted a little hit of color instead of something blinding.
And then there is the Floss lip and cheek. I really like it on my cheeks. It is a nice blendable cream blush. I don’t like it on my lips. The color is a light pigment, which is nice, but it feels very waxy and leaves lip prints everywhere.I think this is going to remain a cheek product and not a lip one. I don’t actually mind that. I have several stick blush and lip duos but thus far all of them have been really nice on the lips and a failure on the cheeks. It is actually nice to have this one be the reverse.
And that is my look today. I’m quite happy with the way it turned out. I’ll be continuing my test of the primer and eyeshadow, but for initial performances, both seem to be doing well.
Welcome my darlings once again to The Make Up bag, where I talk about all the products I used this week and share my thoughts on them. As it is still really hot where I live I kept things pretty simple this week.
Part of simple involved an fabulous foundation formula that didn’t feel like makeup and that was my Kristofer Buckle Triplicity Foundation stick. It is a really comfortable formula to wear, despite the heat and it didn’t cause me any break outs or melt downs. The shade is slightly on the lighter side for me so I know I will be able to use it well into the fall. Because of this I will reluctantly set it aside for now. I could easily reach for this every day until it is gone.
However, I have a few new foundations I want to try. I think at least one of them requires my summer tan fade a little so it will have to wait, but there are a couple others I want to experiment with so next week will be a new (to me) foundation I try out.
This week I did try out the Stila Sheer illumination skin perfecting primer for the first time and I really liked it. The link will take you to my full review. It is not a primer I would use all the time as I prefer matte primers, but it is one of the few illuminating ones I am willing to keep going back to.
Marc Jacobs made a return to my make up bag this week. I happily pulled the HI-FI Contour powder compact out of my dressing table for use this week. I am always happy to take this out. Not only do I like the product, but the sleek design of the compat just feels classy to use. It is a contour duo that I really like using because you can go as intense or subtle as you want with it.
If you are looking for just a wee bit of definition to a low makeup look, get a super fluffy loose bristled brush and dip lightly into the pan, building until you are happy.
If you want something more visibly defined, then get a denser, stiffer bristled brush to work with and you have no problems. It is a really good formula that is quite versatile.
Also from Marc Jacobs this week was one of my liquid lipsticks. It is a really great formula that smells like peppermint, at least mine does. The Boom-Enamored shade is slightly too purple for me to feel comfortable with on its own so I often blend it with Lime Crime’s liquid lip in LAMA.
I do find that on it’s own this shade of Lime Crime tends to show all the texture of my lips if used on it’s own. I don’t have this issue with the other colors just the coppery one. (You can see on the swatch below that it is going into the lines on my hand). Mixing it with Marc Jacobs eliminates this issue, but if I wear it alone then I generally find using a Buxom Plumping gloss before hand eliminates the problem (not just with this but most liquid lips that sink in). I don’t have a desire to make my lips super pumped but this is where plumping lip glosses shine. I apply them about an hour before I go out, let them sit and then wipe them off and apply the lip shade I really want to apply (or leave it if the plumping shade is the one I want to wear). smoothing the way for other lip products is really the genius of plumping glosses.
It is a matte coppery shade. Both liquid lips are comfortable to wear on their own and they work well together actually. The coppery brown blends with the purple making it a berry-ish shade and the copper is likewise toned down so it doesn’t look like I made out with a low rent version of the tin man when no one was looking.
( Copper man couldn’t make it to OZ in the fist book, he had to wait for the Return to Oz for his big shot in the Emerald City, if I recall). I really enjoy both Marc Jacobs and Lime Crime’s formulas on their own, I just happened to pick shades that weren’t quite what I thought they would be. By pairing them together I get to use them both.
This week I also used two Laura Geller Products in my makeup bag. One was the Laura Geller Nude Kisses Lip Gloss. It is a nice pinky shade of lip gloss that is on the neutral side of pink for me. I really liked wearing it.
In general I tend to go more for mattes rather than glossess but there is something about the summer months that often makes me reach for the glosses more. This is a nice one to reach for. It is a little bit on the sticky side, as all glosses are. It is just the nature of gloss, but it isn’t super sticky. I only really notice it for the first few minutes because I am so used to using matte lip products. Usually I monitor my lips to see if they are getting too dry and need a coat of lip balm to protect them. It always feels strange when I first switch to a lip gloss.
Also from Laura Geller this week was my eyeliner. I used the Line – N- Define Dual Dimension Eyeliner in black.
It has an eye crayon on one end and a liquid liner on the other. The liquid liner I liked and had no problems with. It works well and gave me a smooth line. Once it was in place it dried down and stayed all day. I feel I will get a lot of use out of it.
The crayon style liner was interesting. When I first used it, the product had a sharp point on the end and gave me a really good line. As I used it, the end became blunted and rounded, my lines becoming thicker and less precise. As it is the type of formula that can be blended and smudged, I think I would use it when I wanted more of a smoky look.
I liked the product as once it was applied it stayed in place all day, but the more it gets used the less precise it is going to be. So the liquid side is for your precise lines and the crayon side is for the smoked, blended out kind of looks.
Both work really well and I am glad to have the product in my dressing table. I had fun using it this week as it has been a while since I did any sort of winged eyeliner (I tend to use more eyeliner in the fall and winter). I look forward to using it again.
Speaking of eyes, I used the Huda Beauty Mauve obsessions palette this week and can’t say enough good things about it. The link will take you to the full review. The colors are right up my alley and it had just the right mix of mattes and shimmers for me to do several quick and easy day looks. It is definitely a palette I will be reaching for again.
Returning this week was my setting spray from Revolution. I still love it and I am still trying to use it up so two more weeks and then I will finish it out and put another one into rotation. I’ve just had it a while and want to use it up. I’m not sure if setting sprays go bad, but as I also can’t remember when I bought it, I think it is time to finish the bottle and move on.
Also returning was my concealer from TreStique. I really like this concealer on dark spots and blemishes. It is very good when you want to precisely pin point areas for a little extra coverage. I’m not too big a fan of it under my eyes as I think it pulls the skin a little too much, but for blemishes it can’t be beat.
When I use the Kristofer Buckle Foundation stick though, I find it works better if I put the concealer under the foundation rather than the other way around. This way I get a better coverage. Normally I put the concealer on after, but with these two products it just seems to work better in reverse.
I think the creamy texture of the Triplicity foundation just helps it blend in a little bit better. I have another couple of foundation stick products in my collection. I haven’t tried them with the TreStique concealer yet but I think I will mark them for use together next time I take them out and see if they work well like that as well. For now I know it works that way with Kristofer Buckle’s Triplicity. Incidentally Kristofer Buckle is having a 40% off sale at the moment. If you are interested now might be the time to stock up.
I also couldn’t help but bring back the Bad Gal Bang Mascara from Benefit cosmetics. I liked it so much last week, I just had to give it a second week of use. It’s a trial sized version and when I run out, I will be replacing it with a full sized version.
The last two products in my bag this week were Blush and highlighter. The blush is a Tarte blush in the shade Quirky. It is a sample size I’ve been using for a while. I go back and forth as to whether I like the color or not. I love the formula and I plan to at some point buy a full sized version, I just am on the fence about the color.
Sometimes I think it is for me, other times I think it might skew a little too orange. At the end of the week, I am still on the fence. I still like the formula, I just can’t decide on the color. Since I currently have several blushes in my collection that I really like, there is no rush. I just dislike feeling so indecisive. For now, I will put it back in the dressing table and take it out again at a later date and once again try to determine if the color is right for me.
Finally we reach the highlighter. My highlighter this week was the Jecca blac Glow Drops I received in my Glossy Box this month. It is a highlighting primer and I did try it that way but it was waaaaay too glowy for me to use as a primer.
I felt as though my face could signal passing astronauts in space when I used it as a primer. As a highlighter this Rose Pearl shade worked brilliantly for me. On the high points of my face it gave me a wonderful golden glow. It was actually quite stunning.
However moderation is called for. The tube has a tiny dot of a hole to release product. The best way I found to use this product is to squeeze just enough so it comes out and forms a slightly larger dot on the top of the tube, don’t cover the entire top. Then either dab a finger or brush onto the top and apply, repeat if more is needed. It blends in like a dream for just a golden sun kissed glow. Too much and I looked greasy. But just a little dab was fantastic.
Just remember, you can always add more, but once applied it is hard to take off. This is one of those products it is better to build up than tone down. I am however very glad to have it in my collection and feel I will be reaching for it often. I also think it will last a really long time.
Glossy Box included the full sized tube and the tube is completely filled with product. If you have dryer skin or like a more dewy look, you could probably use it as a primer, but for me, I’d rather use a little as a highlighter over a longer period of time.
That, my darlings, was this week’s make up bag. Over all it was a really good bag. I know most of them were repeats and as I generally get rid of any product that really doesn’t work for me, it shouldn’t be a surprise that everything worked fairly well for me. Next week however I have several new to me products that I will be trying for the first time. I know for certain the foundation, primer, blush and mascara are all ones I haven’t tried before. I’ll have to see if I have new products in any other category to try as well next week and maybe get a full face of first impressions and a first week of use. I’ll see what I can find. Until then, enjoy your Friday and I will see you back here this afternoon for the Friday.
