The Skincare Line Up: May 6th, 2022

The full line up

Good morning one and all. It is time once again for the weekly skincare line up. Are you excited? I know I am. This week had only some minor tweaks to the line up. It wasn’t anything major actually. In general I like to have my skincare rotate in and out at different times so I am not adding all new products on the same week. But let’s get into it and see what happens.

The Day time line up

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash

Essence: Time Revolution The First Essence 5X from Missha

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Serum: Miracle Pore Minimizing Serum from Dewy Tree

Eye Cream: Sunday Riley 5 Star Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Sensitive

Sunscreen: Light Hearted Broad Spectrum SPF 30 from Sunday Riley

While I have been a bit so so about the cleanser I have to say this week it sort of came into it’s own. With the increased humidity I have ended up washing my face more than usual. I try to usually stick with the morning and evening routine, but this week I was sweaty and nasty a couple of times mid day and had to roll the cleanser out because I simply felt gross. I was able to use this gentle cleanser with out stripping my skin, so I am quite pleased with it.

The Time Revolution Essence I still love. It does a great job of opening up the pores to get them ready for the rest of the skincare. It is used one spare drop at a time, more simply isn’t needed. It is not yet low enough that i am risking having more product come out than I need but i suspect in the next week I will have to start watching that. Because of the way the regulator is placed when there is less product, upending the bottle to dispense lets the product hit the distributer with more force so more product comes out. it has happened with all my essences regardless of brand. The trick is to remember to tilt it slowly instead of just upending it over the palm of your hand.

My one new product in this week’s line up is a sample sized serum. I am going to try to roll through some of my sample serums to clear out out some space in the drawer and this one has been hanging around a while. The problem is that it was only about half full when i unsealed it from it’s plastic at the beginning of the week. Now I’ve used some of it and I don’t think it will make it through a second week. I won’t be using it long enough to decide it it has any use to it because of the lack of product. The serum has no scent to it. It absorbs well and doesn’t leave the skin greasy. It has hyaluronic acid in it, which is a good ingredient, but given the time i’ve had with it I can’t tell if it has enough to have an effect. I do like the way it feels enough to consider giving it another try with a full size though.

The Sunday Riley eye cream I am absolutely loving though. It absorbs well without leaving my skin greasy or clogging pores and I am starting to see a reduction in the fine lines by my eyes as it plumps the skin.

The Embryolisse is a great moisturizer and perfectly weighted for this time of year. It isn’t too heavy and it moisturizes well. We are nearing the end of the thirty day tril though so next week there will be a full review and I will be rolling the third moisturizer in the lait Creme line into the skincare rotation. I’m hoping it proves to be a summer weight product but i will have to wait and see for that.

And Sunscreen is a must. It is a must year round but as I spend more time outside in this weather it is doubly important. The Sunday Riley is doing well. Once the cream warms up to skin temps the white cast disappears. It does leave me looking very shiny for about twenty minutes after application but after that it is fine. I’ve had no problems with it and am happy to continue using it.

The Night time line up

The Nighttime Line Up

Cleanser: Yensa CBD Superfood Dual Cleansing Oil

Essence: Time Revolution The First Essence 5X from Missha

Makeup Remover: Makeup Cloths from The Turkish Towel Company (I’m using the cleansing oil as a makeup remover too) and the Laura Mercier Soothing Eye makeup remover

Serum: Sonage Collagen Boosting Serum

Eye Cream: Sunday Riley 5 Star Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre (Sensitive)

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

The Yensa Cleansing oil s great for the general makeup removing as well as washing my face, however when it gets in my eyes it tends to cloud my contacts a bit. So I brought in the Laura Mercier to take off my eye makeup. Thus far I haven’t had any problems with it. The eye makeup remover is a good product with no scent, you just have to remember to shake it up before using it as the oils tend to separate. Is it my favorite eye makeup remover? No. It takes a bit more effort to get mascara off than I’d perhaps like. It is good enough to use, but I’m not sure I’d repurchase it.

The other new product in my line up is the Sonage serum. Again it has only been a week with this serum so i haven’t seen any effects yet. It has a scent that somewhat reminds me of rosemary but in a more industrial skincare kind of way, if that makes sense. It is a potent scent, but it fades fairly quickly. It does leave the skin sticky. I was not expecting that but it is very sticky. The stick factor isn’t a problem as I apply moisturizer over serums and that took away all of the stickiness, but it is sticky enough to warrant notice. This is one of those products that I am going to have to wait and see in order to pass judgement. I’m not a huge fan of the scent or of the stickiness even though both could be excused it the product works well. I just need to use it more to figure out if it works well. If it works well and plumps my lines and rejuvenates my face i will forgive the scent and the stickiness. Only time will tell on that one.

One of these things is not like the others.

The Others

Alpha H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid – A toner used every other day

And finally we come to the Alpha H. Used every other day I am really liking this exfoliating toner. My skin feels clear and clean after using it. At the same time, I am only using it three times a week. I would not want to use it more than that. Three times is plenty, more would be overdoing it. But it is a fantastic item in my line up. It tingled and was a little stinging the first couple of times I used it, but that faded quickly and I haven’t had anything but good skin since. I am pleased to use it and pleased to have a second bottle waiting in the wings. Truthfully once i finish this bottle I’m just going to roll in the second one unless there is something else I nee to test out. I would happily award this a permanent spot in my routine.

The Skincare Line Up: April 22nd, 2022

Good morning and welcome to the weekly skincare line up. Here we take a brief look at all of the products in play and see how they are performing as they work in a team. This week was a week of allergies so the eyes are watery and the bags can not be blamed on any skincare product. Still I have a bare skin picture to show you so you can see how my skin looks. Despite the allergies I think it is doing well.

There were some minor breakouts due to the massive sugar intake over Easter. Peeps and Cadbury Eggs. I love them but luckily they only come around once a year. Although this year the Peeps actually gave me the sugar shakes. That is far too much sugar to take in one sitting when you haven’t had it in a while. Next year I am either going to have to ease myself in or just skip them all together.

But that has passed and the sugar spots have mostly been cleared away. I’m actually quite pleased with how my skin looks at the moment. So shall we talk about the products responsible?

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash

Essence: Time Revolution The First Essence 5X from Missha

Serum: The Nue Co’s The Pill (not pictured because I finished it and threw out the bottle without thinking)

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Eye Cream: Sunday Riley 5 Star Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Sensitive

Sunscreen: Light Hearted Broad Spectrum SPF 30 from Sunday Riley

First Up, I did finish The Pill Serum by Nue Co. It wasn’t my favorite serum. I’m sure it was good for my skin, but there was nothing I could point to and say, yes, this is what that serum did. There were a couple of days where I left off the serum and there was no noticeable difference. The Nue co makes several great products, but I just wasn’t impressed by this one.

The Kate Somerville cleanser is fine. It cleans well without stripping and it is quite gentle. It is a nice cleanser. It probably isn’t one I’m going to remember or seek out once this tube is empty, but I am enjoying using it. at the moment I actually have a stockpile of cleansers so I am working through them. Its also why I have a different one at night. I don;t mind having a lot on hand as I will always go through them, but they have to be special for me to put on the repurchase list and thus far, I haven’t seen anything that makes me really want to repurchase this.

The Time Revolution Essence just gets better and better each time I use it. I can feel my pores opening up and I really think my skin looks better because of it.

When I went into the cabinet to find a toner I realized I had this one from Murad opened and about halfway used so I decided to roll it back into my line up to finish using. I really like this toner. The spray lets me apply the right amount to the reusable pad without the risk of spilling and it smells light and fresh. I also like the proof that my makeup remover is working when i use it at night.

The Sensitive version of the Embryolisse is turning out to be perfect for this time of year. It is light enough that it doesn’t feel like too much when the weather is warm and it works well with my sunscreen. I was worried about that actually. When I apply the sunscreen I have to wait until the moisturizer absorbs. because of this I adjusted my schedule slightly in the mornings. Normally I put on the coffee, then go through my morning routine. By the time i am done the coffee is brewed. What I am doing now is putting the coffee pot on, applying everything but sunscreen, then pouring my first cup. I set the cup on the desk and then go back to the bathroom to apply the sunscreen before having my coffee. I know it isn’t much of a change, but just that slight amount of time is enough for the moisturizer to settle in before I apply the sunscreen.

And I am liking the sunscreen. Which isn’t a surprise as I really liked the sample of it I tried at the end of the summer last year.

This week I also switched out my eye creams. I have been wanting to try this Sunday Riley eye cream for a while. It was a gift with new subscribers for the Allure box (and one of the reason I signed up) and since it was here I couldn’t resist. While I really like the formula of the eye cream and I like that only a little comes out of the tube at a time, keeping the rest of the product away from the air. I am not a huge fan of the applicator. It is very good on the crows feet area but not great for under the eye. So I end up putting the cream on the sides of my eyes and then tapping it in with my fingers. Which is fine. Just something to note. It is a very light weight formula and I did remember to take a picture of the lines around my eyes before I started using it so i can o a comparison pic after a month of use. So hopefully I will see some results.

The Nighttime Line Up

Cleanser: Yensa CBD Superfood Dual Cleansing Oil

Essence: Time Revolution The First Essence 5X from Missha (currently 30% off but get an extra 20 % off with code EASTER20 – sitewide sale code)

Makeup Remover: Makeup Cloths from The Turkish Towel Company (I’m using the cleansing oil as a makeup remover too)

Serum: The Nue Co Topical C

Eye Cream: Sunday Riley 5 Star Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre (Sensitive)

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

The Yensa cleansing oil has worked really well as a makeup remover. I had planned to roll in a cleansing balm for makeup removal but this far I haven’t needed it. I do have a couple I want to test out, but I am happy to wait until this cleansing oil is done since they aren’t necessary at the moment. The Turkish Towel Company cloths are holding up well. They are gentle and effective and due to their dark color, they haven’t stained. So I am happy to keep using them.

In all honesty, I forgot to use the Topical C this week. It ended up pushed to the back of the shelf and forgotten. I remembered it when I moved the bottles around for the photograph this morning. I’ll put it back to use now that I’ve remembered it, but I forgot about it this week.

And Finally the Laneige has been keeping my lips soft and supple. I really love applying it before bed at night and highly recommend it.

But wait…that’s not all…

(and yes I wrote Tuesday and Thursday on top of the Retinol to remind myself not to reach for it every day)

The Others

Alpha H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid – A toner used every other day

Shani Darden Retinol Reform (used Tuesday and Thursday nights)

The Shani Darden is almost empty, I will probably finish it out before the end of the week. It is a nice retinol. I’ve been using it Tuesdays and Thursdays and then using the Alpha H Liquid Gold Monday, Wednesday and Friday. when i tried using them together there was some stinging so i separated them and have had no problems with either product. The retinol is nice however it does male me a little sun sensitive. As we are entering into the season where I spend a lot more time in the sun I will probably be switching to a bakuchiol instead since it doesn’t have the same sun issues. I am only using this retinol at night though. I think I would like to try this product in a full size to see how well it performed over a longer period. I think that might be a skincare trial for next winter though.

The Alpha H is fantastic. The first couple of applications it did sting a little, but the sting faded as my skin got used to it and I really think my skin looks lovely partially because of this Liquid gold. I am very happy to keep using it.

And that is the skin care for the week. I am enjoying the products I am using and this week I will roll in a serum to take the place of The Nue Co and I will finish out the retinol and roll in something else. If you are looking at products, I hope this helps you out. Happy Friday everyone.

The Skincare Line Up: April 8th, 2022

This week I feel a little bit bad for my skincare. I have several breakouts, but they are the result of too much sugar in my week. I won’t harp on it here because i have mentioned it a lot this week. But it does make me feel bad for my skincare. they put in the effort, I simply sabotaged them when they weren’t looking. You may notice that there are a lot of products in that picture above, mush more than is usual, even for me. Many of those bottles are actually empty. And a couple of the items are rolled in as replacements. Also I have two non-daily products in the mix, on for Tuesdays and Thursdays and one for every other day.

I’ll separate them out below so this week there are three sections; Day, Night, and Other. The picture to the left is my bare skin. I forgot to take it in the bathroom, but as I hadn’t put on my makeup for the day, i went ahead and took the pic at my desk, hence the light and backdrop difference. Also I finished my Native Deodorant (actually the last of it popped out of the tube unexpectedly and landed on the floor). I had an extra Dove Deodorant in the drawer (I keep it as back up for when I am testing natural deodorants that may or may not work) which I pressed into service. So now that I have given a lengthy intro to match the extra products pictured, let’s get into it. As always, we will start with the day time lineup.

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash

Essence: Time Revolution The First Essence 5X from Missha (currently 30% off but get an extra 20 % off with code EASTER20 – sitewide sale code)

Serum: The Nue Co’s The Pill

Toner: Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre (Sensitive)

Sunscreen: Light Hearted Broad Spectrum SPF 30 from Sunday Riley

Okay we have a few changes this week. I finished up the Missha Cleanser. Although gone, it will be returning. I pulled this Kate Somerville from the collection of cleansers I need to work through. It is a clear gel. It smells slightly florally but the scent is very light. The cleanser has minimal foaming but seems to work well. To be honest the most notable part of it thus far is the cap. Instead of twisting off, it twists and opens a hole in the center so you don’t have to fumble with putting the lid down somewhere while you use it. I am a fan of this. Thus far the cleanser is nice. I have no problems continuing to use it, but at this stage the cap is the most notable element.

I live the Missha essence. It is quite fabulous. almost no scent whatsoever so if you are sensitive to scents this might be something for you to look into. It absorbs quickly and I j=know this will sound strange but when applying it I feel as though my skin is opening up. Like my pores are opening wide. It is an odd sensation. Not a bad one, just odd. But as essences are designed to open the skin to increase the efficacy of the other skin care you are using I suppose that is a good thing. I kind of like the feeling too.

The Pill by the Nue co is about half way finished and while I love the shape of the bottle and how it fits in the hand the serum itself is kind of meh. I have two Nue Co products in my line up and the other (used at night) is really great. I am just not really liking this one.

The Pixi glow tonic toner is completely empty. It was nice. I like Pixi by Petra’s toners. they generally work out well for me. My favorite is the clarity toner so I would probably purchase that one over this one, but this was a nice, lightly exfoliating toner. I haven’t chosen it’s replacement yet but in the Other section below there is a toner used once every other day so I’ll need to roll in something for the between times.

The sensitive Embryolisse cream has been interesting. This is the first week of use actually. I really like it. It has much less of a scent. It is still there and still the same scent as the original, but it is less present. In addition the cream is a slight bit lighter. I think this is perfect timing as we are starting to see warmer days. The sensitive cream is performing just as well as the others and there has been no noticeable difference. I think there will be more of a difference as the sun heats up and I am curious to see how it performs as a pre makeup base, but for now I am thrilled with it.

And speaking of the sun, the time has come where a daily sunscreen is no longer optional. I know, I need it year round, but the truth is I spend a lot more time indoors during the winter and when walking outside for the daily walks I use a spray sunscreen before I leave the house but don’t add it into my skincare line up. Once April hits, this changes and sunscreen is placed in the skincare line up. (I still add the spray sunscreen before my walk as a back up just incase I forgot.)

I tried a small sample of this Sunday Riley sunscreen and really liked it. So I was happy to have a full size to try out. When dispensed it has a slight pink tint to it and it has a light scent. It is one of those creams that needs to warm up a bit. There will be a little bit of white cast when first applied but as the cream warms to your skin it absorbs in and the white disappears. As with moisturizers that do this, just put it in your hand and let it warm up a second before applying and there is no white at all. I am rather enjoying this sunscreen.

The Nighttime Line Up

Cleanser: Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash

Essence: Time Revolution The First Essence 5X from Missha (currently 30% off but get an extra 20 % off with code EASTER20 – sitewide sale code)

Makeup Remover: Sunday Riley Vitamin C Makeup Removing Oil Paired with the Makeup Cloths from The Turkish Towel Company (currently on sale on the site) rolling in the Yensa CBD Superfood Dual Cleansing Oil

Serum: The Nue Co Topical C

Facial Oil: Byroe Fig Recovery oil

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre (Sensitive)

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

As usual I won’t cover the items I talked about in the day since they performed as well at night as they did in the day (if they didn’t I would mention it). The last of the Sunday Riley makeup remover was used this week. I think it might have been discontinued. If not, then I would buy it again as it is a really good makeup remover. The bottle is empty and it will be tossed away. I used the Yensa last night for the first time. well first time for this bottle. I’ve used it before. It was interesting. I had one bottle, loved it and then picked up a discounted bottle that I think might have been a little old. The scent was stronger but it worked just as well as before. I think the older the product is the more like CBD oil it smells. It still works, but the scent is stronger. So check your dates. This is a fresh bottle and the scent is barely noticeable. it wasn’t until I applied water to rinse it off that I really got much of a scent at all. It is a great product and I am happy to use it, I just thought you might want to be aware of that.

The topical C powder to add to moisturizers is really nice. It is my favorite Nue Co product. It is one that I will consistently repurchase as it is a great way to add just a little extra Vitamin c to the routine. I tend to use it at night only because too much vitamin c in the day makes me a little sun sensitive. so if that is an issue for you, you might want to watch it. I like that I can add as much or as little as I like.

The Fig recovery oil is almost empty. It has a week, maybe two left of use. It is a nice dry oil that won’t leave your skin feeling greasy. I’m not sure it is better than other oils. I like Byroe as a brand and there are other products I will always repurchase (their Bitter Greens Toning Essence is fantastic) but while I have no problems using this oil again, I don’t think it is one I would seek out. It would be something i would add to my cart if I was shopping on the site, but not the reason I was shopping on the site.

The Others

Alpha H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid – A toner used every other day

Shani Darden Retinol Reform (used Tuesday and Thursday nights)

With these two products I am making certain that I don’t use them on the same days. So I skipped the weekend with the Alpha H just so I wouldn’t use it on the Tuesdays and Thursdays I am using the retinol. while they are working well I am kind of glad that the Retinol Reform is a sample size. I think in my routine i should only use one of these at a time. But the retinol is about half empty (sample size) so I will finish with it and then just be left with the Alpha H.

Both of these products tingle on the skin. The Alpha H more than the Retinol. I would not use either during the day. While the Alpha H was noticeably tingly with the first use, each additional use the tingle becomes less. I don’t know if i am just becoming used to it but on my first use I was somewhat concerned. Then things went well. It is too early to really sea a difference with either but aside from the sugar fueled break outs, my skin feels really good. I’m monitoring it in case it becomes too much, but this far, I am liking both of these products, the Alpha H especially.

And that has been my skin care for the week. I know there were a lot of generalizations for the newer products but as I get the feel of them and they settle in to longer usage I’ll have more specifics on each. And now it is on with Friday. I hope you have a good one.

The Skincare Line Up: April 1st, 2022

Ah yes my darlings, another week of skincare down. And changes are a foot. Several products are on the verge of being empty and will soon be replaced. First we look at my skin as it is the ultimate response to how products are working. Personally I think my skin is looking quite nice this week. I have a few bumps around my lower orbital bone, but I think that a lot of that is more to do with where my face mask presses’ than any skincare products.

my bare skin this week

And this afternoon i will be using my Bl’eau Mask which will bring up the clogs and since I won’t be wearing makeup or facemasks this weekend then my skin will have time to clear out the issues before next week starts up. Other than that, I have no real skin issues this week. Which is always nice to say. we are on the verge of seasonal changing though so in the coming weeks there may be a bit of finding my footing as the temperatures rise. A lot of that will depend on if we have a slow spring that rolls gently into the summer or if the Summer sun shows up early and clobbers spring into submission. Last year we had a long cold spring and then almost no autumn to speak of. Si I guess we will see what we get this year. But weather (and the future) aside, let’s see how this week’s products performed. For many of them, this is tha last time in the Line up this go round although some will be returning.

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: The Nue Co’s The Pill

Toner: Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

All of these products were in use last week (and several week’s prior. Next week will see many of them go away. The Missha Cleanser is almost used up. I think the fact that I used it as a mask as well as a cleanser used up the tube far faster than anticipated. I will definitely order this again and I will use it as a cleanser. when i use it as a mask it won’t be as a traditional face mask but as a cleanser I let sit to sooth the skin. I am actually ordering a new tube soon (they have a massive sale right now 20% off with code HELLO20) just so that I can have it on hand for the summer. That Artemisia is fantastic at soothing sun irritation (as well as other irritations) and I want it on hand.

The 111Skin essence has been great and I have loved not only how it increased the efficacy of the other products I was using but also the high end spa scent it brought to my routine. It was nice and I would certainly use it again. However I think there is only enough product to get through the weekend. Soon a new essence will join the line up. I have enjoyed the 111Skin Essence though.

The Nue Co’s The Pill is one of the few products staying. It is nice. It isn’t my favorite serum. I haven’t noticed anything that makes me think Wow when I use it. I think part of that is because it is an everything serum. There is not one targeted thing that I can see it doing. I’ll keep using it because it is nice, but i am still trying to figure out how i feel about it. The Vitamin C powder from the Nue co is another story, but I’ll get to that in the night time routine.

The Pixi toner is one I like. I’ve used it before and will no doubt use it again. The sample size I have is almost out. So I will use it this week. I plan to roll in the Alpha H Liquid Gold Toner which can only be used every other day so I will probably be using those together in the coming week. This should make the small amount of toner last out the week.

The MZ eye cream has been performing well. There is some reduction in fine lines. I would have expected to see a little more of a result but we are just approaching the thirty day mark (I think, I sort of lost track with the eye cream and will have to check) so it is still a little early to expect massive results. I will keep using it and hope the results increase. I think part of my expectations is that I know how much the cream costs ($159 per jar) and the cost leads me to expect really spectacular results. Especially since I have gotten spectacular results with a $30 eye cream. But as always where skincare is concerned, only time will tell.

And this leads us to the Embryolisse. I love this moisturizer. It has been fantastic. I thought that with the changing seasons it might end up being too heavy, but it hasn’t been. However we are approaching a moment. I have used it for thirty days. Now while I would love to keep using it, I have two other creams from the Lait creme line of Embryolisse so I need to use each of them in turn and compare them. However this moment also makes me happy. I tried the Embryolisse as a pre makeup base and now I am hooked. So while I would like to keep using it as a moisturizer, I am relocating it to my makeup bag and will be using it before applying my makeup while I test out the other moisturizers in this line. For me this is a win win. Having it in my makeup bag means I won’t forget it and can use it each day with my makeup and won’t have to run back to the bathroom to fetch it. So that’s kind of a bonus win for me. I will have the thirty day final post of this up next week with a lot more detail.

But that was my Day time line up. Only three of the products will be back next week. And new ones will be gin their testing. I can’t wait. But for now it is into the night…

The Nighttime Line Up

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha

Makeup Remover: Sunday Riley Vitamin C Makeup Removing Oil Paired with the Makeup Cloths from The Turkish Towel Company (currently on sale on the site)

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: The Nue Co Topical C

Facial Oil: Annmarie Anti-Aging Facial Oil and Byroe Fig Recovery oil

Exfoliating Pads: The Somme Institute Transport Exfoliating pads

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

Okay I won’t go into the repeat products from the morning as they worked the same in the day as they did in the night. I needed a break from the Vike spray. It works well but that scent made me feel like i was in a cloud of vaporized mothballs and I needed a break. So I went to my skincare drawer knowing I have at least two cleansing balms in there. And at the back I found this Sunday Riley Vitamin C makeup remover oil. There is only a little bit left so i decided I would go ahead and just use it up. I used it this week and think that there might be enough left to finish it out this week. It was fantastic. I am a bit fan of the entire Vitamin C line, but I couldn’t find this on their website so i think it may have been dropped. It is a really good makeup remover and I didn’t have to scrub that much a the makeup just melted away.

I am finishing up the second week of trying out the Makeup removal cloths from the Turkish Towel company and am really liking them. I know this sounds strange, but the fact that they have the word Makeup embroidered on the front has kept them from going walk about. Everyone leaves them alone and they don’t get used for other things. which means I can easily rotate through them and not wonder where they got to.

The topical C powder is fantastic in my moisturizer. It just melts in and blends beautifully. I am a huge fan. I am however not a fan of the Somme institute. I think the pads didn’t even make it into today’s photo because I just stopped using them this week. The serum is fine but those cloth pads are a pain. So I stopped using them. I know it is wasteful but i just got so annoyed that i didn’t want to bother. I’ll do a short review detailing my experience and why I’m letting them go but i am passing them on to someone who will hopefully get better use out of them.

And finally there is Laniege. I love the lip mask and will use it until it is gone. Which will take a while as there is a lot of product in the container and you don’t use that much with each application. But it is fabulous. I think that when i do repurchase, i will go with the mini set so that I can switch out scents and flavors. But it is a great product.

And so that is my skincare line up for this week. Over all things went well. there were some misses, but nothing missed badly enough that it cause a break out, so i am calling that good.

The Skincare Line up: November 12th, 2021

Ah Friday. We have reached the end of the week and what is that? Is that the scent of skincare in the air? I believe it is. Moisturizer: Filorga Oxygen Glow Crème

The only truly new item on this list is the Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser. I know, I planned to try out a sample sized cleanser, but after last week’s cleansing disaster I went straight for a brand that I love and trust. while there may be a few Elemis products where I might think , that’s not my favorite scent, the scent is never off enough that I won’t use the product and at no time have i ever had any sort of reaction to any Elemis product. With One cleanser last week having a scent that I just couldn’t get past and another actually causing an allergic reaction, I’ll admit, I went the safe route.

I did justify it by thinking that some of my cleansers in the travel size could be designated for Thanksgiving travel as the Elemis Cleanser is a pump and I really don’t like traveling with pumps. No matter what I do, it somehow never ends well.

While I have used many Elemis products before, this is not a cleanser I was familiar with. I tend to go for the foaming cleansers (I actually love the Elemis Superfood Foaming Cleanser) but I have weakness for Lime Blossom. It is just a fantastic scent in general. It is lightly floral with just hint of lime zest. Thee was a lime tree in one of the backyards of a house we lived in (we moved a lot – military family) and I remember thinking that when it bloomed it was the most fabulous scent in the world.

So fabulous scent meets skincare brand I love, how could I resist? This is a cleansing milk so there is almost no foaming. It goes on as a thin cream (smelling fabulous) is massaged in and rinsed off. It was fantastically cleansing and it took off the last remnants of my makeup very well without leaving my face stripped. This week for my ‘double cleanse’ I relied upon my Makeup Eraser (currently 35% off sitewide) to remove my makeup and then washed my face. Even when I am not officially using two products for a true double cleanse, I like removing my makeup before cleansing my skin. It removes more product before the cleanser hit sand I like the thought of actually cleansing my skin instead of simply washing the makeup off.

Plus my toner pads come off cleaner when I do both so that I actually feel like my cleanser is really doing it’s job.

And my toner did work well this week as always. I don’t think I will manage to get through another week with this toner and will have to rotate a new one in for next week. Thus Murad Toner is one that I will repurchase though. My skin enjoyed it and I really felt it was worth using.

Everything else performed up to expectations and with the exception of the moisturizer will continue to chug along into next week. (some of the items I’ll break out down in the night time list as there are a lot of repeats.).

The Filorga Oxygen Glow Cream finished up this morning. If I’m honest, there was barely enough of a sample left to finish out this morning, but I used the last drop of it. I really enjoyed this moisturizer and will happily pick it up to use again. I am putting it on the list of products I would like to try out in the full sized versions. It is one that I will be picking up at some point for a lengthy trial. While two weeks isn’t long enough to see real results, in these two weeks it has been a really great light weight day cream. It didn’t provide enough moisturize to be used at night, but I don’t mind having separate moisturizers so that didn’t bother me. It is most definitely a day cream for me though. If you have really dry skin, it might not be enough for you. If you have oily skin, you may be able to use it as more than a day cream. It was lightweight and absorbed well. I look forward to arranging a longer test in the future.

And with the wrap up of the .day time moisturizer, shall we peer into the darkness of night?

The Nighttime Line up

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Night Cream: One Kind Dream Cream Night Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Okay, again the only newcomer is the Elemis Cleanser. It was fantastic and I am happy to keep it around. The 111Skin Essence is also a delightful addition to my line up. The scent brings a very spa like feel to my skincare ritual and it makes my skin feel as though it is opening up, The feeling is almost like feeling a cool breeze on your face when you weren’t really expecting it. As essences are designed to open your skin up to receive additional skincare I suppose that means it is doing it’s job. At the moment, I rather like it and am enjoying using it.

The Verso eye cream I love. I really can’t say enough good things about it. This may actually top the list of eye creams I have used this year. I know, for a while it looked like Perricone MD was going to take the prize this year, but it is now being edged out by Verso. Don’t get me wrong, Perricone MD is coming in as a close second. But the Verso just edges them out.

This week I used the One Kind Dream Cream again. I actually had two samples. they came in two separate subscription boxes actually. Upon first glance both tubes looked packed full of product, but once the seal was taken off there was barely a week’s worth of product in each tube. It was mostly air. So this was my second tube and my second week. Last night I finished the last of the night cream and will need a new product tonight.

From the to weeks I’ve used it, I think it is a good lightweight night cream. It has no real scent to it, which may be it’s strongest selling point. It isn’t a bad product. It just wasn’t really noteworthy. it worked well but I never found myself saying, wow this is a great night cream. Or looking in the mirror the next morning and thinking, that was a good product. Conversely I didn’t have any problems with it. It was just a middle of the road product. It provided moisture for the night.

I know, that’s it’s job. And perhaps if I did use it for longer then I might have seen some skin benefits that elevated it from just something that provided moisture. It is not a terribly expensive night cream and even though it wasn’t a spectacular product, I might go ahead and pick up a full size to try out and see if it is better. It is a $38 moisturizer making it the same price as the Olay Moisture Rich Moisturizer (usually $38 it is currently on sale for $28.99). If asked to choose between the two I would go in for the Olay every time. Even though the Olay isn’t a night cream, it provides just as much moisture as the night cream and to be honest when using that sample for two weeks I did wake up thinking, wow, my skin looks nice this morning. I’d still like to give the One Kind a try, but a full size is rather low on the list of purchase items. And before bed, the empty tube will be replaces with something new. I have no idea what that is yet, but I’ll find out before bed time.

As for now, this is the end of the skin care line up for this week. I know, with everything behaving properly it isn’t as dramatic. But quite honestly, sometimes, you don’t really want dramatic in your skin care. well dramatically reducing fine lines is nice. Perhaps I mean trauma rather than drama. After the itching eyelids from last week’s cleanser, I’m happy with the nice and easy week my skincare line up gave me this week.

Alyaka Beauty Advent Calendar Luxe 2020

The Skincare Lineup: November 5th, 2021

Ah November has arrived and with it a drasti temperature drop. This is the time of year where my moisturizers change over as my skin freaks out over the dry air pumping through the ventilation system. This week, the temps dropped ten degrees overnight twice taking us from the afternoon temps of mid sixties down to the low forties. It should be in the forties at this time of year. It was just so shocking to the system to have it all plunge down in one fell swoop.

Well, technically two fell swoops.

Oddly enough it wasn’t my moisturizers that gave me trouble this week. But let’s get into the skin care and we’ll se what we see.

The Daytime Lineup

Deodorant: Native Deodorant Cherry and Vanilla Macaroon

Cleanser: Neogen Dermalogy Foaming Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Moisturizer: Filorga Oxygen Glow Crème

Okay, We have all heard the phrase the squeaky wheel gets the grease? Well this week the one change in the line up was the cleanser and it was definitely the squeaky wheel in my routine. To sum up the rest of the line up, everything worked well. I enjoyed all of the other products. And my skin likes them.

The Neogen cleanse is another story. It comes out as a white cream. You put it on your face, add water and there is a minor foaming that sort of occurs as the cream dissolves. It cleans the skin fairly well. I tried to use to to wash makeup off later in the day and it wasn’t very good with mascara or dark lipstick, but it did fairly well with face products.

The thing is, I can’t take the smell. It smells like lemon scented toilet bowl cleaner. Not an industrial one, but more like the one with the gooseneck and the scrubbing bubbles on it. It is the not quite bleach background note that is covered up with faux lemon scent. I tried using it, I really did. At first I tried rolling in a different cleanser at night to limit the use of this cleanser to once a day. But it didn’t help. I have a friend who loves the brand and she just finished a cleanser. While I have enjoyed other products from the brand (and am currently enjoying their peeling mask) I cannot take this cleanser. So while I have only used it a few times, I am passing it on to someone else who will hopefully love it. I just can’t get past the scent of it to use t long enough to find out if my skin likes it. In general I like the brand, but this was just not a win for me. And as Cleanser is one of the most important elements of my routine, it is best if I just let this one go.

The Nighttime Line up

Cleanser: Mario Badescu Cleansing Oil

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Night Cream: One Kind Dream Cream Night Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

This week there were two real changes to the nightly line up. This week I opened a sample of the One Kind Night cream. The sample tube had less than a week’s worth of product in it. Luckily my October Glossy Box came in late and it had a second sample in it, so i am going to roll that in as a replacement now that the first tube is empty. Hopefully it will have enough to get me through this upcoming week. The cream has no scent to it and it is quite moisturizing. It takes a while for it to fully absorb though so for about ten minutes after i apply it, I feel like my face is a little on the greasy side. After those ten minutes though it feels fine. Thus far i haven’t felt the need for a heavier cream, so it is moisturizing well. I have no problem using the second tube for a second week’s worth of product testing. I just don’t like that there was so little product in the tube to begin with. Other than that it seems okay.

As with the day time line up, I had issues with the cleanser. The Mario Badescu oil had no real scent to it, which I appreciated. It took off my makeup really well and rinsed off cleanly. I actually had no problems with the way it worked. However after two days I noticed my eyelids felt a little itchy after I washed my face. I didn’t think much of it, but then the next day it was worse. So I stopped using it and my eyelids stopped being itchy. As well as it cleaned, I think I might be allergic to one of the ingredients in the oil. It didn’t affect the rest of my face, at least in the length of time that I used it, but it made my eyelids unbearably itchy and I was starting to get red splotches. So I thought it best to discontinue use and just use my Makeup Eraser and water the remove my makeup for a while. It worked quite well, as always. I am going to have to take a long, hard look at the Mario Badescu label though in an effort to find out what it is that my eyelids just didn’t like. Whatever it is, I want to stay far away from it in the future.

This week, the focus was pulled from the skincare that worked well with no major issues to the problem children in the line up. With the cleansers acting up there was little attention paid to anything else. The other products worked well and I liked them. I will happily continue using them and next week, maybe I can focus on the effects of the good products rather than the effects of the not so fabulous for me ones. But for this week, that was my focus and this was my skincare line up.

The Skincare Line up: October 29th, 2021

Once again Friday has arrived. And once again we look at the items currently in rotation in the Skincare line up. Interestingly enough as we go into December, I am also looking back over this years’ worth of products. There were quite a few samples I liked and wanted to try as full sized items to see if I liked them more long term or if it was just a temporary love affair. I am starting to look over the list I made so that when the Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sales hit, I can take advantage of them and pick up items I truly want to try. And of course I now want to try out some of the samples I have in my collection to see if they need to go on that list or if they just need to be cleared out to make space. It’s why this week I chose to rotate a sample moisturizer into the mix. But we’ll get to that soon enough. Are you ready to look at the line up? Good, then let’s get started

The Daytime Lineup

Deodorant: Native Deodorant Cherry and Vanilla Macaroon

Cleanser: Ren Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Moisturizer: Filorga Oxygen Glow Crème

Okay, let’s go through the list. First you may notice the deodorant is the same brand but a different scent. I used up the current stick I was using and picked up a new one. I hoped that the Peppermint would be available (both in the deodorant and the Native Body Wash) but it was not in the store when I went. The cherry and vanilla macaron scent is stronger than any other scent I’ve tried from Native and it is oddly lasting. To me it smells like Cherry pie. And I repeatedly found myself turning and thinking ‘cherry pie’ for the first few days it was startling. Now I’m kind of used to it. However this scent is much stronger than the others and doesn’t fade away quite the same which is something to keep in mind.

The Ren Cleanser. It is a good cleanser but for some reason it doesn’t like coming out of the tube. As the level of product has dropped, this has become more and more frustrating. To be honest this might be the deciding factor in whether or not I would repurchase. It is a small thing but getting the product out when my hands are damp is a twice daily frustration that I am not really fond of. It is a great cleanser. If it came out of the tube with less effort I would happily put it on a repurchase list. As it is, I’d have to think about it. While there is some product left, I think I will end up running out before the end of next week and have to rotate something else in. Honestly, I’m not too sad about that.

Crest is a brand of dental care I trust and honestly I love the gum detoxify toothpaste. It makes my mouth feel extra clean. It is from the Pro Health line and my mouth feels healthy. I will probably say this repeatedly, especially as I have no plans to replace this toothpaste with anything other than a new tube of the same product when it runs out, but I really like this toothpaste. It honestly does make a difference in the feel of my mouth.

The Murad Hydrating toner is a good one for me. In general the Hydration line usually works well for my skin. It is their Acne fighting line that I have to use with caution. It takes down the blemishes but it dries out the skin. There is no problem with it here and it backs up my cleanser well, taking off the last of anything remaining on my face from my night creams so I have a fresh face to work with as I lean into my morning skin care routine.

I am still feeling my way around the 111Skin Essence. I think because the Missha Essence was so good at taking down redness and sun damage as an extra benefit, I am having to readjust my thinking with the essence. Thus far I love the scent. It is lightly floral but feels like a high end spa. I’ll admit, it makes me feel fancy to use. There is also the feeling of my pores opening up when I use it (kind of the same feeling when you stand in a really hot shower where the steam is so thick everything is sort of obscured and you can feel your skin opening up. It’s a similar sensation.) which is good since essences are designed to open your sin in preparation for the other skincare. I’m still thinking about this essence, but thus far, I kind of like it.

I still have no idea why this vitabrid C Serum is called Dual drop. From what I can tell it is a Vitamin C serum. Which is fins, I like vitamin c serums. The name just confuses me. I like that it is a thick serum as I like the feel of it. I also like that despite its thickness, it absorbs quickly without leaving extra product on the skin to make it feel greasy. At the moment I am enjoying it. I just need to delve deeper to find out about the Dual drop name.

I am absolutely in love with the Verso eye cream. It may be the best eye cream I have tried all year. And I’ve tried some good ones this year too. This beats them all. It isn’t greasy, it absorbs well with only a tiny drop of product needed and as it is a full sized 20 ml tube it will last a really long time. Oh yeah and it takes down a larger number of the fine lines at the side of my eyes than I thought possible. I kind of want to send a thank you note to Stockholm. I’m sure companies have received stranger things in the mail, but really. I’m kind of in love with this cream.

And so we reach the moisturizer. This is a sample size that I pulled from the skincare drawer. I am only about half way through the tube so it will have a second week. The cream has a slightly floral scent but it is a light, clean skincare floral scent, if that makes sense. And while you can smell it when you dispense it out of the tube, the scent very quickly dissipates and is pretty much a non-issue. It absorbs well and isn’t greasy. I think though that it would be best described as a day cream. I might be able to get away with it as a day and night cream in the head of the summer, but now, not so much. It wouldn’t provide enough moisture for me at night in the cooler months. This week I have really enjoyed using it as a day cream and look forward to using it another week.

And so ends the day, shall we take a peek into the night?

The Nighttime Line up

Cleanser: Ren Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Night Cream: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Clearly there is a lot of overlap in product usage. And really the products didn’t change much from day to night (except for the moisturizer which I swapped out for the night). So we will look at the three night time players.

The first is the Neutralyze. I like the exfoliating pads. They give a nice light exfoliation to the skin and while the blemish fighting treatment is great on the blemishes, it doesn’t dry out the rest of my skin. The serum in it is a little on the sticky side. What I like to do is use the toner pads and then give it a few minutes to settle in and work it’s magic. Then I return to the bathroom and continue with the serum. The serum knocks out all of the stickiness. I actually like the toner pads more than I like the regular serum. Don’t get me wrong I liked the serum as well and when I had break outs, it actually worked better. It was just a lot stickier and required at least an hour to settle before I could lay down to sleep. I will say that at the moment I have fewer blemishes and clogged pores than I have had in a while. While I generally only get hormonal break outs (and currently have one on my chin, just for fun) I am more prone to clogged pores that just give me strange areas so rough texture that kind of drive me nuts. At the moment I have significantly less of them. I think part of that is the daily mask from Healing Bark, but I think part of it may be down to the neutralize clearing out some of the clogged pores. As we enter the season of richer food, I think I will keep these pads on hand to help my skin out as needed. I don’t think they will remain a consistent part of my regime as I simply don’t get consistent break outs, but I will be keeping them on hand for when I do.

Elemis, oh Elemis. This is one of those brands where the products never cause me issues. Sometimes a few of their products are a bit strong in scent, but they work so well I am willing to ignore that. This plumping pillow facial has a lightly floral scent that smells more clean and fresh than cloying. It kind of reminds me of the lavender sachets my grandmother used to put under the pillows and in the chest of drawers. Only fresher and with a creamy feel to the scent.

This is technically speaking a night mask. However I have had a run of moisturizers that while they work as day cream, just don’t cut it at night. If using it as a mask, this cream is one I would use only a couple of times a week. I have been using it nightly in place of night cream. I have found I need significantly less. Which is fine with me. I am more than happy to stretch the use of an expensive product I like using over a longer length of time. However that time is coming to an end. I may be able to use the rest of this jar over the weekend but by Monday I will need to find a new product to use. I honestly did love this and would repurchase it in a heartbeat, either to use as a nightly skin treat or as a night mask a couple of times a week. It was a light weight moisturizer that didn’t clog my pores and didn’t weigh down the skin. It was quite honestly fabulous and I am sad to see it go. But rest assured, it will return.

Last week I forgot my lip mask and my lip balm from my desk went MIA. This week, I rolled located one of my Jersey Shore Cosmetics Lip balms and placed it on the desk and at night I used the Laneige lip mask every night. No more dry chapped lips. I know there will come a point mid-winter where the chapped lips are unavoidable, but I figure if I can hit the inevitable chapping spot with my lips in as good a condition as I can manage then there will be less pain and the chapping will be less. I like the mask. It is the second Laneige lip mask I’ve had. Oddly enough the other one was also Berry. While the berry is nice, I would like to try out different scents. It will be a while before I get there though as this jar of mask will last the better part of a year. I’m okay with that as it is value for my money and it is a lip mask that works amazingly well. I just wouldn’t mind trying a new scent the next time I pick up a lip mask.

And that my darlings is this week’s skincare line up. It was, for the most part positive. There will be a few changes next week and starting next week, as November gets rolling I will be looking back at some of my favorites throughout the year in an attempt to square away my own thoughts as to upcoming Black Friday Purchases. I know, more excuses to talk about skin care. I can hardly wait.

The Skincare Line up: October 15th, 2021

And so another week of skincare comes to an end. This week the line up looks a bit different than last week. I had several products reach the end of their lives and I had some others roll into the line up. I was able to stagger them so not all products started on the same day. I generally find that having at least a day between adding products into the line up really helps keep my skin from freaking out. So let’s see what changed this week.

The Daytime Line Up

Deodorant: Native Blackberry and Green Tea Deodorant

Cleanser: Ren Clean Skincare Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Moisturizer: Seed Phytonutrients Light Weight Facial Lotion

Eye cream: Verso Super eye Serum with retinol 8

Sunscreen: Shiseido Ultimate Sun protector Lotion SPF 50

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste

While I was sad to finish up the Annmarie Cleanser and Serum, both of which will be coming back to me at some point, I was happy to try out two new items. I have seen Ren products around and I’ve heard of them for quite a while but this was my first experience with a Ren product. This cleanser comes out as a clear gel and has a quite lovely scent actually. The scent is slightly almond-y and reminds me a bit of marzipan. It doesn’t smell as sweet so I still felt like i was getting a good fresh clean. I liked how it performed this week and am happy to keep using it. It was a bit harder to squeeze out of the tube than I thought it would be. The formula was nice though so the first week was a success.

Actually most of the new products had a good first week.

The Vitabrid C12 Serum is nice. I really like having vitamin C in my line up so i am very happy with a vitamin c forward serum. My skin absorbed the serum well and I really liked the thick consistency of it. I’m not a fan of watery serums. This one had some body to it and while a week won’t show you much difference, I think my skin might just be a little bit brighter. Even if that is my imagination,. I am happy to continue using it.

This week also saw the arrival of a new eye cream. This is the Verso Super Eye serum with Retinol 8. I know I am a big believer in letting skincare settle in and work over time and not looking for immediate results, but i have to say I was very pleased with my eyes this week. In the daily posts when i take close up pictures of my eyes, I actually did notice an improvement in the fine lines around my eyes. So I am cautiously pleased with this eye cream. Time will tell if there is actual lasting benefits, but at the moment I am very pleased with this in my line up.

And then we come to the sunscreen. And I am sad to say there is a minor hiccup. I love the formula. I love the way it applies and I love how easily it blends into the skin. I love that I had no clogged pores. Do you know what i don’t love? Can you guess? That’s right, the scent. This sunscreen is so perfume-y that I didn’t really want to wear it. It isn’t just perfume-y, but it is a scent that lasts. It doesn’t dissipate after the sunscreen is applied, the scent lingers. The bottle was completely full and after a week of use the sample bottle is about half empty so I will use this a second week, but because of the scent i won’t be buying a full size. Which is a real shame. It is a great product and if it came in an unscented variety I would snap it up. I may look for an unscented variety, but this one is far too scented for me. This one I will use and let go. But it was good enough that I will fight though the second week to continue using it and I will comb through the Shishido sight to see if an unscented version is available.

The Night time line Up

Makeup Remover: Makeup Eraser Cloth

Cleanser: Ren Clean Skincare Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toner: Neutralyze exfoliation Toner Pads

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Serum: Vitabrid C 12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye Cream: Verso Super Eye Serum

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Night Mask: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

This week many of the products that I used in the morning I also went with at night. At the moment few of the products I am using are sample size so I thought it better to just focus on the full sized items. I might add an extra serum next week, but for the moment I am good with the Vitabrid C12 serum. I think I’ll wait until I really know how it performs before seeing about additions.

That leaves the one new item in the night as the Neutralyze toner pads. I was very impressed with them this week. I think I actually like these more than I like the serum (and I liked the serum quite a bit.) The toner pads have a serum on them as well and I think it is very similar to the serum, however because they are exfoliating toner pads, the serum isn’t quite as sticky. It is still a little sticky, which is why I used them at night. However I do have fewer clogged pores and this is the time of month where I generally get hormonal breakouts. Yet, no current break outs and fewer clogged pores. So I am very pleased to be using this right now. It is it’s first week of use but thus far it is holding its own. My skin has no dried out spots and my problem areas aren’t much of a problem at the moment. which is always a nice thing to say.

Again it is a new to the line up product, so I’ll have to see how it performs over time but week one was pretty smooth. Hopefully it will continue the good work. I love when i can say nice things about products.

Admittedly I still have to give this week’s MVP status to the Verso Super Eye Serum. I really like the way the fine lines around my eyes look. Or rather don’t look since several of them aren’t visible. That is a result I am quite happy with.

And that was this week’s line up. It was shorter than usual as I am now using most of the same products in both the morning and the evening. And of course the newer products are still in the first stages of trial. As all the existing products in the line up are really doing well there isn’t much to say about them.

The Skincare Line Up: October 8th, 2021

Good morning and welcome to another week of skin care. This week was really interesting as I have several products that are almost down to empty, but not quite there. Some have a couple of more days left on them, others might last another week. It is really going to be fun to see as a lot of products are rolling off of the line up in the near future. So lets get started and see what we have shall we?

The Daytime Line Up

Deodorant: Native Blackberry and Green Tea Deodorant

Cleanser: Annmarie Skincare Aloe Herb Cleanser (use code FALL25 for 25% off)

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha

Serum: Annmarie Skincare Anti Aging Serum (usually $60, currently $45 on sale)

Moisturizer: Seed Phytonutrients Light Weight Facial Lotion

Eyecream: Clarins Paris Total Eye Lift

Sunscreen: Volition Prismatic Luminizing Shield in SPF 50

Facial Spray: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste

Okay lets just start at the top of the list and work our way down shall we? The Native Blackberry and Green tea deodorant smells like blackberries and green tea when you sniff the product, but the scent is almost completely MIA when you apply it. If you are sweating heavily there is the possibility of pit stains, but there is never any stink factor. It works, just remember it is not an antiperspirant. It is close to reaching the end of its life. I may have two weeks left on it thought so it is one of the few products that i will not be replacing in this coming week.

I fear i will be finishing up both the Aloe Herb Cleanser and the Anti Aging Serum from Annmarie skincare. They are both great products and I know this is not the last time they will make it into the skincare line up. I love the fresh clean herbal scent of them both. The cleanser has a lemon verbena scent while the serum leans towards rosemary. Both are lovely and are especially excellent in the morning as they both have the kind of scents that wake you up. Both are available in their samples bundles.

If you are interested in trying out the skincare before committing to a full size, I highly recommend Annmarie’s sample bundles. It is a great cost effective way to find out what you like and what you don’t like about a brand. I have found many favorites this way. But now I have to let them go. There is maybe three days worth of cleanser left and I’m pretty sure I will end up using the last drops of serum in the morning. So it is farewell to both, although there will most definitely be a return.

The Murad toner is a really good toner. I am only about a third of the way through the bottle so it will be sticking around for a bit longer. I really like the elements from the Hydration line of Murad. They tend to suit my skin type and are especially helpful as the seasons change and I need to adjust to my seasonal skin changes. It really helps to balance things out.

If you look at the above picture you may notice that the Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence is a bit lower than it should be. This week my babydoll had some skin irritation issues so he ended up using it as well as I did. And so it is disappearing pretty fast. Even though this one was sent by the brand, I have already reordered another bottle, just to keep around. Whether you use essences regularly or not, this isn’t a bad product to keep around just to deal with skin irritation. It really helps with both the soothing and redness aspect. I am a big fan of it. I suspect that we may end up keeping a bottle of this in out medicine cabinet. I know that sounds a bit strange, but my babydoll isn’t a huge fan of skincare in general so getting him to use a product is often difficult, however if the same skin care product is stored in the medicine cabinet, he doesn’t think twice about using it. I know, it’s a little bit of trickery, but it works. And sometimes, you just have to use what works. It’s like putting cheese sauce on broccoli.

Next up we have two products that give my nose issues. One is the Seed Moisturizer. it works well and my skin loves it but it smells like wet and slightly moldy hemp rope. Normally i don’t have an issue with the scent of hemp but there is just something in this that i don’t like. I am only about half way through the bottle and I plan to finished using it up, but as good as it feels on my skin, i will be happy when it is done and i will not be repurchasing it.

The scent of the Caudalie is also not my favorite. It smells a little like mothballs. However it is one of the best facial sprays I have tried. My skin always feels so nourished when I use it, scent or not. I always reach a point with the Caudalie elixir. I get to the point where I just want to use it up and get it out and I am always relived not to smell it when it is gone. Then a few months will pass and I will remember how much my skin really liked it. So I will order it again, use it again and then once again reach the point where I can’t take the scent. If this had a different scent, I would order it before I ran out and always keep it on hand. But by the end of the bottle, I need a break from the scent (and yes, I only buy the travel sized bottles) Something really need to be taken in moderation. I don’t know if you can see what is in the bottle, but the remaining product will be gone before the weekend is over. There is both relief and sadness. And a wish for a different scent.

My eye cream this week was frustrating. Since eye cream takes so little to apply, I had high hopes for this little tube of Clarins to last a bit longer. Using it morning and night I started it last Saturday and used the last of it yesterday. It seems to be a really good cream. My skin liked it. It absorbed well and didn’t leave me feeling greasy. there were no clogged pores. I just didn’t use it long enough to really see any results. Would i use it again? Sure. What i used seemed to be pretty nice. But now the sample is empty and a new eye cream must be tried.

Also pretty much empty is the Volition sunscreen. It is a great weightless sunscreen. There is really no gap in use though as the last time i bought sunscreen i went ahead and picked up several tubes. I do want to use up a couple of samples though, so I may use them up before I open up a new tube of the Volition sunscreen. Rest assure, it is not going to be gone for long.

And to round up the morning we have my Crest Gum Detoxify. My dentist recommended it, my teeth feel clean and my breath is fabulous. What else is there to say?

Okay, lets take a look at the non repeat night time products shall we? First off I love my Makeup Eraser. Right now it looks a little bad, but it is going into the wash this afternoon and it will be as good as new. I really want to get a set of the smaller cloths so I can use one a day and thus always have a clean make up eraser, but as the one i have is in such good shape I just haven’t broken down and done it yet. I need to though. But for now, this is fabulous. I’ve had this one well over a year and no matter what it looks like going into the wash, it always comes out looking like new.

The Rodial Dragon’s Blood Cleansing Water works like any other micellar water. It is no better or worse than any of the others I’ve tried. While i like micellar waters, I didn’t notice anything that would make me buy this one over any other. I think there is enough for a week in the bottle so I will probably use it up this week and then not repurchase. I will purchase micellar waters again, just not this one.

Something else i will not be purchasing in the full size is the Clive Cleanser. To give it it’s due, it is a nice creamy cleanser that goes on well and stays in place like a cream until you add water to foam it up and wash your face. It smells like straight up perfume. I know it cleansed and I could feel my clean skin, but the scent did not make me think clean. it made me think I just splashed a rather cloying perfume on my face .I know it has all sorts of things I like, but it is still a hard no for me based on that scent.

The Herbal Dynamics Beauty I love. It is a fantastic serum. I was getting some sun sensitivity, so I switched to only using it at night and the issue was resolved. It is almost gone and it will be very hard not to immediately reorder it. Only the fact that i have several other serums I need to try out is keeping me from immediately repurchasing this serum. It has really helped with my fine lines, especially the giant line across my forehead that I refer to as my stress crack. It is still there as nothing is going to remove it, but it is more of a line than a canyon. I love this serum.

The Neutralyze has also impressed me. I am currently using it as a spot treatment in the areas where I tend to get clogged pores. It has helped clear away several of those clogged pores and kept them from getting clogged again. And all without over drying the skin. I found this very impressive. It is on the sticky side though, so when you apply it, put it on and then let it sit. Give it at least an hour before you apply your night cream and go to bed and all is well. If you don’t give it this time you will stick yourself to your pillow case. So take your time.

While there is still plenty of product in the bottle, I am going to rotate it out this week so that I can give another Neutralyze product a try out. The brand sent over several products for me to try out. So next week I will be trying out their exfoliation pads to see how they work. it will be interesting to see the differences in the formulas and if the serum is as sticky or if it dries the skin more. I am actually looking forward to it.

My Elemis Pillow Facial has been fabulous. Becuase I am using it more as a night cream than a mask, I need very little of it so there is still plenty of product. It is slightly floral in nature but it is a light fresh scent that smells like lightly floral skincare rather than perfume. Oddly i felt cleaner after applying this than I did when using the cleanser. Plus it is Elemis and you know I am a huge Elemis fan.

And finally we reach the lips. To be honest, I forgot to apply this lip mask most of the week. It slipped behind some of my day time skin care and I didn’t see it. So I forgot to apply it. My lips aren’t that bad, but i can certainly feel the difference. They are a bit dry and I feel the need of both a lip scrub and a lip mask. I will probably roll in a lip scrub this week, just because i need one. Usually I only use them in the winter as just applying the lip mask is all I really need. But I skipped the lip mask and now need the scrub.

Lesson Learned.

So my darlings that was this week in skin care. For many of the products in this week’s line up this was their last showing. Some will return and others will not. Either way i will be rotating in several new products this week. Isn’t that exciting? Well as exciting as I really want my skincare to get anyway. Let’s hope we get some good products and no skin irritation. that’s the sort of excitement I can live without.

The Skincare Lineup: October 1st, 2021

Ah Friday, the day I get to indulge my love of skincare and talk everyone’s ear off. I do try to control myself. Not everyone needs to know my love of hyaluronic acid. Or do they? I don’t know, perhaps it may help. And isn’t that what this is all about?

The Daytime Line Up

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha

Serum: Annmarie Skincare Anti Aging Serum (usually $60, currently $45 on sale)

Moisturizer: Seed Phytonutrients Light Weight Facial Lotion

Sunscreen: Volition Prismatic Luminizing Shield in SPF 50

Facial Spray: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste

Okay, let’s kick off with a most egregious error on my part. Looking through this list you may not notice anything strange, but something is missing. It is the eye cream. I finished the ESPA eye cream and didn’t add in a new product. The reason is that once I finished it I thought – I need to add this onto my list of products I want to repurchase. At the moment I have quite a few eye creams to go through as subscription boxes went eye cream crazy for a bit, so it will be a while before I get around to reordering. The ESPA eye cream is one that tops the list though.

So, since I didn’t have a pen and paper with me I set the tube back on the skin care shelf to come back to later instead of putting it with the empties. And then I left it there. I picked it up periodically throughout the week and then set the empty back down thinking – that’s right I need to add it to the list. It is now on the list, and a new product will be added next week.

To be honest that is really the only change in the morning line up. I have about a week left on the Annmarie serum and I am already dreading running out. Even though the serum is a little thicker than i would expect it absorbs really well and my skin looks really good because of it. It is one of those serums that I just love to use. It has a nice herbal scent and it just plain feels good on the skin.

I did notice something interesting with the Missha Time Revolution essence this week. The lower the essence drops in the bottle, the more comes out of the top when I dispense it into my hand. I think that happens because the product falls through the empty portion of the bottle to smack into the dispenser top with more force now that there is less product in the bottle. I am trying to remember to turn it up gently so the product is against the dispenser cap before I shake it into my hand. This dispenses less and will make it last longer. And I am all for making this essence last longer. With the weather change I have been spending more time outside and even though I still use my lovely Volition Sunscreen, it is a lot of sun on my skin. The essence really helps calm my skin after too much sun. Or irritation of any sort actually. It really is just good to have around, as well as being part of my skincare line up.

Even when i ignore gravity and shake out more than I need, I just apply the essence to my neck and upper chest so it is all goo. Just something I thought was interesting. And something I didn’t even think about before the product dropped lower in the bottle.

The Night time line Up

Makeup Remover: Makeup Eraser Cloth

Cleanser: Rodial Dragon’s Blood Cleansing water and Moisture Boost Gel to Water Cleanser by Tony Moly

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Serum: Herbal Dynamics Beauty Hyaluronic Acid62% Hydrating Serum

Acne Treatment and Moisturizer: Neutralyze Renewal Complex Blemish Control and anti-aging moisturizing cream

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Night Mask: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

This week the night time line up had two changes. One was the use of a sample sized cleanser from Tony Moly. It is simply called Moisture Boost. It is a gel to Water cleanser and as expected it comes out as a clear gel that melts to a liquid with the heat of your palm. It s scent is slightly reminiscent of a citrus scented hand sanitizer. The citrus is very light and faint though. It doesn’t really foam. And I;ll be honest, while that isn’t technically necessary, I like my cleansers to foam.

While my skin did feel clean, this isn’t the best cleanser for getting makeup off. It suggests morning use and I think that is because it really isn’t good at removing makeup. For makeup removal I just relied mostly on my Makeup Eraser followed by the Micellar water. this cleanser was mostly a follow up more so i could test it out rather than because it was removing anything but the last bits of makeup remains.

The other change was in the Neutralyze. At the moment I am using it as a spot treatment for my trouble zones rather than spread a layer over my entire face. I really think it is helping in the areas where I tend to get a lot of clogged pores. I’ve noticed fewer clogs if nothing else. I’m trying to avoid using my Herbal Dynamics Beauty Chamomile and Cacao Clearing Mask at the moment so that I can see if the Neutralyze can work them out and thus far I think it does seem to be doing some good. Pictures are hard to take of it as the clogged pores are more of a texture than anything else so it is really hard to see. But the bumps are receeding. Or being removed I suppose would be a better term.

The cream is very sticky though so if using it, remember to apply it at least an hour before going to bed otherwise you will feel like you are velcro-ed to the pillow case. Give it its time to sink in and do its job. After all the pillow case doesn’t have any clogged pores it needs to get rid of, why should it take a share of your treatment?

And so my darlings that is it for this week’s skincare line up. There weren’t many changes but I think I have several products that might at best make it to the end of next week before new products need to be rotated in to fill the gaps. So change is coming. And as soon as this posts, I am writing down the details of the ESPA eye cream and I am putting a new cream to try into the bathroom. Promise.
