The Daily: June 30th, 2022

Ah, deep breath in, deep breath out. Company came, company departed. And the newly cleaned bathrooms were put to good use. Apparently while road trips are now okay for some of my family, they are still leery of public rest rooms so everyone walked in and lined up at the bathroom doors. So glad I took the time to do a fresh clean.

As I wasn’t expecting them until Saturday, and I thought they were staying over, this week has had to have some last second adjustments. So yesterday very little got done, which means today will be rather insane. It also means that Friday won’t be insane and I may actually have a quiet fourth of July Weekend.

Well quiet barring the fireworks. And my babydoll is kind of tickled that he only has to worry about cooking what we want to eat for the weekend festivities. Several of our erstwhile visitors have food sensitivities and because he grew up with a friend with peanut allergies he has this deep rooted fear of accidentally sending someone to the hospital. Apparently there was a peanut related incident at a family barbeque that left a lasting impression.

So he will be more relaxed as well this weekend. And as his allergies have been taking him out more and more, I think he kind of needs that. Actually we had an amusing conversation about that the other day. He was wondering why his allergies were bothering him more this year than they had in the past few and realized that as restrictions have eased he is wearing his face mask less this year. The mask was actually helping to filter out some of the allergens. So now he is thinking of strategically going back to wearing the face mask when running around town.

The mask is now his friend.

Which considering how much time he spent griping about having to wear it kind of makes me smile. Sometimes it is the little things in life that bring the most amusement.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Unicorn Glow Long Wear Primer

Foundation: Revolution Fast Base Foundation Stick (Summer sale started 50% off selected items)

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Gold Rush Blush (Sample Boxes are now back in stock)

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Natasha Denona Cupid Mini Palette

Mascara: Wet ‘n Wild Big Poppa Mascara

Lips: Mischo Beauty in Madam

As I have been attempting various reorganization patterns with my makeup, I have come across several sample sized primers that I forgot I had. So I may be using them up for a little bit. And yes I know the Tatcha one is coming in this weekend and I probably won’t be able to resist using it, but I did open one of my samples. I am really trying to clear out all of the sample sizes so I can determine if they are worth picking up in the full size or if they just need to clear out to make space. In the same vein I am also trying to use up products that are near the end of their life so there will be some repeats moving forward.

I kind of like this Unicorn Glow Primer. A little goes a long way and it is on the dewy side of things, but it is helping to keep my makeup in place longer and I like the look of it. I used the Fast Base from Revolution because I really love the formula. It doesn’t need to be armed up and glides on easily and blends in. It is one of my two summer shades of stick foundation so it will be in rotation for a bit (the other is ABH). While this is a relatively matte foundation, when paired with a glowy primer like this, it can make me look a little greasy, which is why I opted for powdered face products. Especially rolling in the No 7 powder. I have needed to touch up with the powder throughout the day, but part of that is because it is June in Tennessee andpart is that I am not a fan of the wet look as I always feel it makes me look greasy.

The too Faced is perfect at this time of year as it has the right buildable shade and just a tough of gold to go with the sun. The blush too is one of my faves. Both the blush and the No 7 powder are showing pan and I doubt either will make it past the end of summer. Which is fine. I love them both and while I will have to talk myself out of repurchasing the No 7 immediately so I can use up a few other powders the Gold Rush has been out of stock for a while so I will have to find another blush when it is gone. I suspect i will put that off until there is no more in the box as I really love it.

Today’s eyeshadow was the Natasha Denona Mini palette Cupid. I couldn;t find it on the site so the link just takes you to the selection of mini palettes. I personally like these. They each have 5 rather large pans and the color selection is pretty well thought out. The color story is well thought out and it is easy to grab and use. The shadows are fantastically pigmented. The issue I have is that I think when I pick it up I will create more or less the same look each time. This is my first time using it, so perhaps that won’t be the case. we shall see as i continue using it. I will say it is quick and easy to grab and use when you are in a hurry.

You know I love the Big Poppa Mascara. It has been on the favorites list since it came out. This is the last use for this tube though. I think I might not have closed it all the way as it is a little dried out. Today I used it but I think that was it for this tube. It will be replaced soon and another Big Poppa will take it’s place.

I chose the Mischa lipstick today because I couldn’t remember if I used it before or not. It is a lips stick/lip balm cross and actually feels quite good on the lips. The color is supposed to be a sheer wash of color, which it is. The lipstick is darker in the tube then on the lips which at first was disappointing as I really liked the color in the tube. But I think the color turned out well today. It feels really comfortable to wear and while it does leave a little bit of smudge marks on glass rims, it doesn’t leave colored lip prints everywhere which I like. I may have to pull this into rotation more often. Thus far I am liking it.

And so my darlings, that is me today. I’m rather pleased with how things turned out. And now it is back to work for me. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your afternoon.

The Daily: June 28th, 2022

Today was beautiful my darlings. Last night the rain arrived and the world looked refreshed when I woke. In addition the temperatures were only in the sixties. It was sixty-eight I grant you, but it felt like pure bliss. Even now it is only in the mid seventies. I went on a long walk this morning. Much longer than I intended and yes, this afternoon I will be going on another one.

It is the first time I have been able to go outside without melting in a long time and I am loving it.

And I am not the only one. Any neighbor that is in the area has been outside. Laptops have been paired with lawn chairs and instead of looking miserable all of the neighborhood dogs are frolicking in the yard. I have to say, I didn’t realize how many of my neighbors were actually home during the day. I usually only see one or two, unless something crazy happens to draw everyone out. I’m glad this time it is nice weather that is the draw instead of a tree falling in a storm or a utility van backing into a telephone pole.

Both of which sadly have happened in the last twelve months.

But this was more like a prisoners of the heatwave release club gathering. Actually it wasn’t really a gathering, more of an exodus from the cells.

I know it won’t last so I will be taking full advantage of it while I can. Plus I have birthday cake to burn off. So the extra exercise helps.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation

Bronzer/Blush/Highlight: Ultimate Glow Getter Cheek Trio from RealHer

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked Honey Palette

Mascara: ABH Lash Brag Mascara

Brows: IMethod Beauty Perfect Eyebrows in Seconds Kit

Lips: Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in Diamond Milk

The primer I used today is the Tatcha solid balm primer. It is one of my absolutely favorite primers and I have now used it enough that pan is showing in the center. I was going to simply reorder it, but when I purchased the Kissu Lip mask I received several samples, one of which was the liquid silk canvas primer. I tried it and liked it so I ordered a travel size to give it a full test and to see if I liked it better than the solid version. According to postal tracking that order should arrive this Saturday so next week I will be testing it out and comparing the two. Since I love this primer it will be hard to beat, but i do want to do a side by side comparison. And yes I used that upcoming comparison as a justification for using this primer today.

In my effort to rotate my foundations I chose the Tom Ford this morning. It is a beautiful foundation, but at the moment it is not my shade. While I worked with bronzer to adjust, I think I am going to return this to the winter skin section of the drawer. It is a great formula though and blends beautifully. It is just the wrong shade for this time of year.

I know I have used and praised the Ultimate Glow Getter palette many times. I actually used it down to pan and wore off all of the labeling from the cover. it was my go to travel palette because it is small and reliably good. So I repurchased it. The old one was no more (there was a little highlight left but that was it) This was the first use of the new one and I am really glad I repurchased it. While I enjoyed using it today, and will in the future, even if I only keep it for travel I will be happy I repurchased it.

I am still testing out the Naked Honey palette and I still love the variety of browns and golds. I know a lot of it is simply that I love the shades. I can’t help it, I am always happy when I can reach for a bronzy gold shade. The fact that it is a palette packed with them and that since I am testing the palette I get to use it every day of that test just makes me happy. I will wrap up the review and test on Thursday, but I can see myself reaching for this palette often.

The ABH Mascara wasn’t my favorite when I first got it, but it has grown on me. It can be a little clumpy so I keep an eyelash comb handy when I use it to take out the clumps. If I don’t they flake off. If I use the comb no flakes. It also provides good volume and length. I think when it runs out I will be repurchasing it.

I was sent the eyebrow kit from I Method for the purpose of trying it out. I know my bangs cover a lot, but I will be going into detail in a post later this week because it is an interesting kit. I really like the brow pomade actually. It is working out well for me.

And finally the Diamond Milk. I am not a huge fan of Fenty Beauty. In general I find the products okay but not crave-able. The exception is this gloss bomb. This is a fantastic lip gloss. It looks good, feels good and even when it wears off leaves my lips feeling fabulous instead of dried out. It is a little too big for my lipstick holders so it gets tucked away in a drawer, but I need to keep it out more as it is fantastic. As a brand Fenty isn’t my favorite, but I will use and repurchase this and look into other shades. I really enjoy this gloss bomb.

So that is me today. Nothing much to complain of other than the foundation is the wrong shade for the day. Beyond that I used products I love and tried out something new that I am starting to feel positive about. As I tend to get rid of anything I try that I don’t like it isn’t really much of a surprise that I like what I used, but over all this was a really positive makeup day. I kinda dig those.

The Daily: June 27th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today has been a day of waiting. Or at least it feels like it has been. It is my birthday today so I deliberately adjusted my workload so today would be a light one. Tonight will be a fabulous dinner from one of our favorite local restaurants (i.e. not one I have to cook) and there is an ice cream cake waiting in the freezer for after dinner.

we get it from the local ice cream place. It is a once a year thing and each year they always looked stunned that we don’t want a message written in caramel for the small child it is no doubt for. They always look shocked that it is a birthday cake for a grown woman.

Personally I think my babydoll likes going in there and watching their surprise. I told him the cake wasn’t necessary this year and he looked so crestfallen that I recanted and planned to just do a little extra working out this week to make up for the extra calories.

So now it is waiting for after dinner.

The truth is though, despite the birthday treats waiting for the end of the work day, it feels like a waiting day because of the weather. It is looming. The air is heavy, the wind is low and feels like something big is holding it’s breath. There are clouds massing, but still holding back. We are supposed to get rain, there is an 80% chance of it, but the rain is biding it’s own time.

I always find it vaguely amusing at this time of year. In Spring it always feels like I should be building an ark and I generally find myself wondering how many cubits my back yard can hold. Then the spring rains trickle off and all the moisture hangs in the air with rain a distant memory and the world withering to a crisp around me. So I am waiting for the rain to actually break, if it will, and I am waiting for my birthday celebration.

I went on a walk because the temps have dropped a smidge. I came back drenched from the 90% humidity though and ended up taking a cold shower. My hair always looks a little crazy after that and my bangs are just misbehaving. Nonetheless, I am relatively happy with the way I look today, and that is not a bad thing on a birthday.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Yensa Tone Up Primer

Foundation: Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Cosmetics Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Dominique Cosmetics Cream Blush

Powder: Laura Mercier Translucent powder

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked Honey Palette

Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir (discontinued, just using the last one up)

Lips: bareMinerals Mineralist Lip gloss

Today’s makeup was chose for a variety of reasons. I chose the primer because I love it, and know how it works with my skin. I’ve used this Yensa Primer for years (off and on) and will continue to repurchase it. I am going through my foundations one by one to see which i like, which shades work now and which I just need to use up and let go. I haven’t used the Charlotte Tilbury in a while so I figured I’d give it a go. It is a foundation that requires a bit of time. It isn’t a simple blend in and go operation. This takes a foundation brush to spread evenly, followed by a makeup sponge to get rid of the lines. I always have to take extra time around my nose as it tends to go streaky there. As much time as it takes though, it ends up looking really good when i am done. I like it and I think I will use this bottle up completely, mostly for days when i have the time to play with it, but takes time to play with so it isn’t an every morning kind of product.

By contrast, I raced through the rest of my makeup. With the nice looking foundation, it looked fine and actually I am really falling in love with this cream blush. It really blends beautifully and I am happy to use it. This shade works for me, but looking at the range I am not sure any of the other shades would work for me. I do like this one though. It is darker in the pan then on the cheeks so that is something to be aware of when shopping.

the Urban Decay I really like. I went super easy today. Mostly because I took so long with the foundation. One dip into the mattes and a tap off is all it takes then blend out and top with a shimmer. That’s what I went for today and then I called it good. The bare minerals lip gloss seemed like a good accompaniment. It is a light wash of color and a formula that not only looks good on but leaves my lips feeling nourished well after it has disappeared.

So that is me today. The shirt I am wearing actually came from my drape fit box. This has been a fantastic shirt for meetings. The material doesn’t wrinkle and it looks dressy but is super light weight and feels soft. it looks good on camera and in meetings. It may be the only thing I kept from my Drape Fit Box, but it has proven to be utterly fantastic. And now it is back to work for me. Have a great Monday everyone.

The Daily: June 23rd, 2022

Okay deep breathe my darlings. After yesterday, today has been a veritable ocean of calm. This morning I got up early, I walked when the temperature outside was only 75 degrees, which while still warm felt like a cool autumn afternoon compared to the last few weeks. Admittedly my walk was done before eight am. Then around eleven I slipped in some yoga. I had a delightful Smoothie for lunch (Yup, another Chocolate one from Smoothie box. I’m not normally a huge chocolate fan but this strikes the right balance for me and I absolutely adore them)

In a surprisingly calm day, work just flowed and even though my work load is heavier today to help makeup for yesterday, I did work a little late last night so it is not overwhelming.

Yesterday was just a flying mass of crazy.

There was car trouble on one end of town and the mechanics clear on the other side of town. So there was the drive to rescue, the drive to repair and since I was crisscrossing town anyway I just added in a few other things that I was going to have to do later this week and weekend anyway to the list since I was there. It will make Friday and the weekend feel luxuriously easy, which I suppose is the real birthday present for myself (Birthday is Monday).

So despite everything, mostly the heat making me crazy because the air in my car does not work so it was a very sweaty adventure, I actually got a lot done yesterday. It wasn’t what I expected and it wasn’t done in the order I planned, but they were things that had to be done. So that’s like achieving a goal unexpectedly. Which feels way more like a positive now than it did yesterday. Perspective, I suppose, can be everything.

But a cold shower often helps too.

Today’s Look:

Today’s Look:

Primer: ELF Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin-caring Glow Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush: Dominique Cosmetics Silk Tone Cream Blush

Powder: Laura Mercier Translucent Powder

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked Honey eyeshadow palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Yensa Super 8 Lip oil in Pink Shine

With one or two changes, this should look more or less like the rest of the week. I ran out of the Sephora primer so I chose instead a classic favorite with the Elf. It is a great primer and because I’ve used it so often for so long, I know exactly how it performs. Knowing how it performs (and loving it) as well as keeping the face products more or less the same are kind of key for me when testing a new foundation. Especially one that has a one shot sample try on. On Monday I used all of these products with a tried and true foundation that I love (albeit a discontinued one) and so I can compare the samples to how that performed. the same slate of products serving as a sort of control in the process.

I also really like almost everything on this list. I think the Patrick Ta is just okay as far as Mascara goes. It isn’t really blowing me away with major volume, but everything else on the list is either a long time favorite or a new product that is really impressing me. The Blush is blending well and lasting all day. And even though the Urban decay is a fairly Neutral palette my love of bronze colored shadows means that I really want to reach for it. I’ll still be using it next week and give a full review next Thursday but my personal preferences make it a really good palette for me.

The Laura Mercier doesn’t want to come out of the little holes and keeps bunching up behind the plastic screen, but the powder itself is really good.

Not my favorite look with this palette, but i was trying out the lighter mattes

Which of course leaves is with the foundation sample. This one is from Givenchy. It is a blister pack and I did have to combine two shades to have enough product to use. So how did it perform? It performed well. It stayed in place all day with only a little settling in the lines around the corners of my mouth. It was a little on the glow-y side but not too overpowering with the glow. It looked quite nice. It felt a little heavier than either the Giorgio Armani of Tuesday or even one of my favorite foundations the Yensa BC Foundation (which is rapidly what I am starting to compare foundations to actually it is the one I want to reach for most mornings.)

Admittedly part of that ‘weight’ might be the scent. With the scent I couldn’t forget I was wearing it. It is a perfumed foundation. It is a light and pleasing perfumed scent, but throughout the day I would find myself moving about and catching a whiff of scent and wonder what it was before I remembered, oh year, its my foundation. It is not a bad scent. I actually like it. I just don’t like the scent on my face. This week I am not wearing a perfume because I just didn’t feel like it (sometimes I get that way when it is hot, all scents become a bit much) I think I might have had a bit of an issue had I been wearing scent. I do not want to have to scent coordinate between my foundation and my perfume. (or hair products or skincare, etc.) If I was head over heels in love with the way the foundation looked and performed, maybe I would be more inclined to over look the scent. But the foundation is good, not spectacular and for me, the perfumed scent of it edged it into the probably not for me category. If it happened to come in a subscription box (although a not very realistic scenario as I have never seen Givenchy in any subscription box) I would use it for a more fulsome trial, but as a sample packet I have the one shot to judge and todays use does not make me want to pick up a bottle for a full test. while I am sure the Armani foundation will end up as a full trial at some point, I doubt very much that I will be seeing this Givenchy again. It looks good, I just can’t get past the scent.

But I find it helpful to know what I don’t like as well as what I do, so for me, this was a very useful test, even if I do prefer larger samples to test out. As I am already looking forward to removing this foundation tonight, that’s pretty much all the sample I need. And so it is back to work for me. have a great rest of your Thursday my darlings. I’ll see you back here bright and early tomorrow morning.

The Daily: June 22nd, 2022

Oh my darlings today is a day on the run. I think I drove more this morning than I have in the past month. And it is not done yet. It’s one of those days where errands are the order of the day. I started off the day with a quick dusting of powder and a plan to circle back and add makeup later in the day.

That never actually happened.

And I’m pretty sure I either sweated or sneezed off the powder. Pollen is high as are both the temp and the humidity. To be honest I nipped home because I sweated through my shirt and need to do a quick change before running out again. I am either going to have a late night with work tonight when the running stops or I am going to have a really long day tomorrow.

So no makeup, no fitness, just car repair and a whole bunch of other running around today. I did take advantage of a sale last night that i thought you might want to know about.

Tatcha is having a 20% Friends and Family sale going on right now: Code FF2022. I figured it was the perfect time to try a travel size of the powder and liquid primer I just tried in sample form so I ordered them. while I know from the sample that the powder is great and that I will more than likely enjoy the primer enough to want the full size, the travel size will let me test them out completely before purchasing the full size. Plus I am trying to use up several other powders and primers, several of which are almost but not quite used up.

Shop Tatcha’s Friends and Family Sale and Take 20% Off Sitewide with Code FF2022

Because I rotate and test samples so much I have several products that are close to being used up but not quite there yet. So I know they need to be replaced soon, but I was more comfortable picking up a travel size until they are used up. Then if I really like it I can get the full size once the close to empties become empties. Plus with the 20% off I couldn’t resist. And since my birthday is this coming Monday i figured it was a nice little present for myself.

As I have been typing I was eating my lunch (a Chocolate Smoothie from Smoothie Box – BTW they just released a new flavor, Mango). Its a great way to eat lunch on the run and still post the daily. But the last of the Smoothie has been sipped and my shirt has been changed (now is not the best time for natural deodorants, light colors may be cool but black doesn’t show sweat).

I know a sale and a new smoothie flavor aren’t much to leave you with, but hopefully it will help you out. And tomorrow I should get to test out the Givenchy foundation. I am looking forward to that one. Until then, it is back into the heat for me. So an extra dose of sunscreen a newly filled bottle of water and I am off. See you tomorrow my darlings. Try to stay hydrated.

The Daily: June 21st, 2022

Today I am taking advantage of what may be the last cool day for a while. While It was raging hot last week, we had some cool weather over the weekend. It spilled over into the beginning of the week and From the weather reports it looks like today may be the last day we can expect it. So…To the walking trail we go.

I went on a long walk this morning and the weather was simply fabulous. Then just before lunch I snuck in a second walk. It was a bit more sweat inducing but it wasn’t pass out from heat exhaustion hot. I have watched the temps and the heat index rise since I returned so I suspect this may be my last post 9am walk for a while.

I enjoyed it though.

Even if i will end up working late this evening to make up for the time the second walk took out of my day. It was worth it.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Sephora Smooth and Blur Primer

Foundation: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush: Dominique Cosmetics Silk Tone Cream Blush

Powder: Laura Mercier Translucent Powder

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked Honey eyeshadow palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Yensa Super 8 Lip oil in Pink Shine

Today as you might notice looks pretty much like yesterday did with the exception of the foundation. With my last Sephora order i received two foundation samples so I figured I would go ahead and use them this week to see if either was worth looking into for a full foundation test. This year I not only finished out several of my in process foundations but with Becca no longer in existence and now Kristofer Buckle gone I may have to start branching out in my products.

I used the last of the Sephora Primer today and my thoughts remain the same. It is a good basic primer. It isn’t something I would look for specifically but i wouldn’t mind using it again if it came my way.

The sample I have of the foundation was really small. I had to combine three shades to cover my face with product. The blend actually worked really well. And as annoying as it was to have to blend shades just to get enough product, I really like the way this feels on my kin. It blended well with no streaking and feels weightless. I’m actually quite impressed with it. It is holding up well today. I might be able to combine a few of the other shades for a second use, but I’m not entirely sure how well the remaining shades will blend for me. I do like it enough that I might consider picking up a full sized bottle and giving it a go. It really is performing well. The main issue is now figuring out which shade actually does work for me since i had to combine a few. But it seems like a good product.

Today I was also still impressed with the Dominique cosmetics blush. It really blends nicely. I layered a little more than yesterday on and am pleased with it’s buildability. I tend to go pretty light on blush, but it is nice to know i can go darker if I want. It is a good product and a beautiful packaging so I expect i will be reaching for it often.

The Naked Honey I still love as much as yesterday. I only needed one dip into the dark brown and it blended well over the eyes. It is highly pigmented though which is something to watch out for. I think to go lighter I would have to apply with one brush and blend with a second clean one. I am enjoying playing with the different gold tones though. this palette is so me though. I’m glad I finally picked it up.

The mascara is a bit of a let down. For something called major Volume I’d expect a little more volume. This is just basic. It does last all day without flaking and is light and comfortable to wear, but aside from being a good everyday mascara I’m not seeing much in the way of volume enhancement. I might try layering it on a bit more thickly tomorrow and see what I come up with.

So that my darlings is me today. I am pleased with the walk and pleased with the way this foundation performed. I can’t say i am pleased that I’ll have to work late tonight to make up the time I spent on the extra walk, but I regret nothing. The walk was fabulous and I am glad I took it, even if it does extend the work day. So now it is back to work for me. I will see you back here again tomorrow. Have a fantastic day.

The Daily: June 20th, 2022

Happy Monday my darlings. Have you ever wanted something but put off purchasing it because you knew you really didn’t need it? And then you saw it go on sale for half price and picked it up anyway? I finally purchased the Urban Decay Naked Honey Palette. I know I have plenty of browns and golds and bronzes, but This palette simply appealed to me. I talked myself out of buying it so many times and then poof I got an e-mail saying it was fifty percent off. A few clicks later and it was purchased.

I have to say I am extremely surprised by how fast it reached me. I woke up Saturday Morning and it was by the front door. I ordered it Thursday afternoon.

How fab does that look? Okay, for those of you who aren’t into neutrals maybe it isn’t so fab, But I really like this palette and can’t wait to try it out. I had the original Naked palette and used every shadow down to pan before i let it go. It was the only palette from the Naked line that I purchased. And in those days I had a very small apartment and only three eyeshadow palettes. Which probably played into how much I used it. It was my go to work palette. I am thrilled to give a new Naked palette a try. I’m just sort of tickled in general.

Other than that it is a pretty quiet day. Nothing went crazy over the weekend it seems so today is just rolling along smoothly. I love Mondays like that.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Sephora Smooth and Blur Primer

Foundation: Kristopher Buckle Triplicity Foundation Stick

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush: Dominique Cosmetics Silk Tone Cream Blush

Powder: Laura Mercier Translucent Powder

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked Honey eyeshadow palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Yensa Super 8 Lip oil in Pink Shine

I know, it was mostly about the eyeshadow today. But there were several new products used. This was the second use of the Sephora Primer. It is a bit on the slippy side so you shouldn’t use too much. It is an okay primer. I wouldn’t go to Sephora specifically to purchase it, but I might cuck it into the cart while shopping.

The Kristopher Buckle Foundation is fantastic. I adore it. But as it is now no longer available anywhere but on Amazon (even Walmart ran out and the brand’s sites are all null) so I think it is safe to say that it is no more. I will keep this in rotation so that I can use it up and then let it go. It is sad because it is fabulous. And I am trying not to be tempted by Amazon.

As always love the trestique bronzing stick. They are now refillable so fabulous got een better. I like the formula and I love the ease of application for this product.

This was a first use for the Dominique Cosmetics Cream blush. One swirl of the finger in the pan was enough product. It went onto the cheeks easily and blended like a dream. It didn’t blend out and disappear like some cream blushes but it blended smoothly and easily. I was going for light today so I didn’t do a second swirl to see if it can be built up, but I will try that tomorrow. Today though it worked well.

The Laura Mercier setting powder is new to my line up. I heard so many rave reviews so when Sephora had the powder and a caviar shadow stick set (travel size) a a Birthday gift for this month, I picked it up with my order. (I know lots of people do look what I ordered from Sephora posts, but I tend to order one or two things at a time, rather than load up on lots at once. I know I’d probably save on shipping if I did that as well as have more dramatic purchasing unboxings, but that’s just not really how i shop. This time I was restocking my hand sanitizer – Touchland Power Mist, I’ve used it for a while now and will have a post up about it tomorrow actually. In case you were wondering about my big Sephora order. It was the Hand sanitizer and the birthday gift)

The powder worked well. It didn’t really want to come out of the little holes and kept blocking up, but when I did apply it it felt rather nice. I can see why it is well thought of. I may have to enlarge the holes to use it more effectively, but I did like it.

And yes, we have come to the eyeshadow. I loved this palette. The shadows needed to be tapped off of the brush, but after that I didn’t really have any powder fall out. The shadows I used layered beautifully without becoming muddy. In that past some UD shadows Have had blending issues. while I only had the Naked Palette, I had several single shadows and they tended to be used as one and done because they didn’t play well with others. This seems fine. I used the darkest gold as my shimmer and I absolutely adored it. Since I’m testing it I will be using it for the next week or so. we’ll see if all those neutral brown and gold shades get boring r if I like it just as much at the end of the trial as i do now, but at the moment I really like it.

The Patrick TA mascara was nice. It dried fast which is nice, but major volume it really isn’t. It is a nice mascara and it has worn well today, but it isn’t all that exciting. Perhaps it will get better with use, we shall see.

I rounded the look out with my favorite lip oil from Yensa and called it a day. Its fab, it always is. And now for me, there is work to be done. Yes, the paperwork is calling. well actually that may just be final edits on my latest manuscript. Soon another book will be out. Sooooooon. I am so ready to finish it and move on to a new cast of characters. And I am so close I can taste it. So it is back to work for me. Have a great rest of your day my darlings. And remember, if you put all of your commas in the right place the first time, your revisions won’t look like your editor bled all over the manuscript. Not seeing the red speckles everywhere make editing much more pleasant.

The Daily: June 16th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Have you ever had a day where everything just chugs along as expected. No mishaps, no emergencies, no surprises? Just the day quietly moving along as planned? I know it is the sort of day that once it is passed will slip through the cracks in my memory and be forgotten in a haze, but to be honest it feels fabulous.

I think it has just been such a strange spring for me. Every time I turned around there was another large must deal with event coming down. There were some high points but there were some low points but it was a very spiky looking graph because there seemed to be no mid points.

The transmission on my vehicle started to slip and needed expensive repairs. I got a commission on a project I really wanted to work on. My brother died. I received an award. My heating and air conditioning unit needed to be replaced. One of my younger cousins had twins. One of my best friend’s father died. One of my cousin’s kid’s graduated with honors. A friend got married, two friends got divorced.

I’m sure there were a few more things in there. Some of them happened to me, some around me, but this was not a quiet spring. It was a season of emotional rollercoasters. It felt more like a cork had been popped out and everything just sort of spewed forth in one big gush. I think a lot of it might have been things that were delayed due to earlier lock downs and rescheduling issues and it just all happened to land at once. But it kind of makes me appreciate the solidly steady quiet days where things just go as intended.

Today, I watered, I worked out, I showered and dressed for the day, I worked, I had a a Smoothie Box smoothie (Orange – it was delicious) for lunch. I went back to work. Then I remembered I was going to marinade the salmon we were having for dinner (we just got a Vital Choice order, in fact because it came in around the same time as the Smoothie Box we are thinking of getting one of those small stand alone coolers Nothing large, but in the summer we eat a lot more fish so we order Vital Choice more often (plus there is a huge sale going on right now, I;ll link it below) so that it is on hand and my babydoll wants more room to stash his freeze pops. Yes those plastic tubes of colored sugar water and ice you freeze. He loves them and couldn’t find space in the freezer).

The marinade is my favorite, equal parts maple syrup and soy sauce, freshly grated ginger, a couple of pinches of pepper flakes and that’s it. I put everything in a bag so it is easy to turn after two hours and I put the bag in a bowl in the fridge so if the bag springs a leak there won’t be sticky marinade in the fridge. We are having it with roasted green beans that have a dash of sesame oil and some sesame seeds on them. Beans are in season here so you can buy huge bags locally. I roast a whole pan and the left overs will get pureed and mixed with potato so so tomorrow we will have a sort of vegetable pancakes to go with our gochujang chicken.

Yup my biggest concern thus far was making sure I had a plan to use the leftover beans I know we will have.

Ah, normality, how I have missed you.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Sephora Smooth + Blur Primer

Foundation: Revolution Fast Base Foundation Stick

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

Blush: IBY Beauty Blush in Sun Kissed

Powder: Kim Chi Beauty Puff Puff Pass Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Maybelline Color Tattoo cream shadow and Lottie London Metallic Pigment

Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir (the link goes to Sephora for reference but it is out of stock everywhere and discontinued)

Lips: M2UNYC Matte Liquid Lip and TYS Lip Treat Lip Plumper

Today was an interesting mix of new and old, or maybe I should say established. I started with the trial size of primer that came in my Allure. It is one of those tubes that is mostly empty. I might be able to squeak two more uses out of it. It is from the Sephora line and I have to admit when I saw it in the Allure box I wasn’t thrilled, but I did think that if it was there then maybe it was there because it was really good. It is the sort of slippy silicone feeling primers. It works well. It isn’t fabulous but it is functional. It is the sort of thing that if i was placing a Sephora order and needed one more thing to push me over a spending limit, I might add. It is not something that I would look for or specifically go to buy. It is a $16 primer so it is more affordable, but honestly I think the Elf primers are $8 or $9 depending on where you get them and they are better. So if you were looking for an affordable primer I would go there before going to the Sephora line. It does a decent job, it just isn’t rave worthy.

The Revolution Fast Base foundation stick on the other hand is a standby summer favorite. I finished up a tube last summer and then when Revolution had a sale I restocked. This was my first use this summer and I do love this foundation stick. It doesn’t need to be warmed up, blends easily and I found my perfect match (F11 in case you are wondering). It is something that I can wear now and will be able to wear throughout the summer and into the fall when my tan fades. I generally end up using up a tube of this foundation every summer.

The Too Faced bronzer, is a regular use product, it tends to work better for me when I am more tan so it does get more use in the summer. and lets face it the compact is beautiful too so it is nice to play with.

The IBY blush I saw in the drawer this morning and could not honestly remember using. I opened it and it looked untouched. It also looked like a good shade for me. I’m guessing it came in a subscription over the winter and I thought ‘summer shade’ and put it to the side. It is a darker tone and for a first use it worked well. It isn’t highly pigmented but it beldns without disappearing which is nice. I’ll play around with it and see if I am going to add it to my summer makeup, but first use seems promising.

I like the Kim Chi Powder. It is a good quality and with the powder pudd I don’t need to use all that much which keeps it from looking powdery. I did notice if I used a brush then it could look powdery, so I always use the puff with this powder.

Because I wanted to play around with the metallic foil I just used the Maybelline to give me a little darker shade towards the edges. I really do love these color tattoo shadows. It took me a while to figure out how to work with them but in the end they turned out to be fantastic. I need to figure out how to get myself to reach for them more. It is an on going problem with the single shadows. I paired them down to the ones I really like, but I just need to figure out an organizational system that works. So it worked fantastically as always. The gold was the pone I was playing around with. It is the Lottie London. When I used a brush, there was fall out. when I used my finger there was less fall out but it was a bit messy because my finger was just too large. Today I soaked a cotton swab with Setting Spray (Benefit Cosmetics Super Setter) and it was perfect. It had the rounded tip of the finger and the dampness locked in the powder so there was no fall out but it had the maneuverability of a shadow brush. I now want to try this with all of my loose pigments. I don’t know why I didn’t try it before. It was a fantastic solution and thus far I have had zero fall out.

Even though Marc Jacobs Beauty is no more, I found an unopened back up of the Velvet noir and decided to use it. I’ll try to use it more on the days when I don’t post a daily so that I am using products available to purchase if you find them appealing (I hate when I see something I like only to find it no longer exists). this was my favorite mascara for a long time, but Marc Jacobs Beauty has closed. Also I saw an article about Revlon closing too. Which I admit stunned me more than Marc Jacobs.

Revlon is declaring bankruptcy. That seems almost unfathomable.

So we end with lips. I chose the M@UNYC because I like it, it is matte and it dries fairly quickly. I wanted to try the lip plumper over it. The TYS doesn’t have a huge amount of plumping that I can see (but it does tingle a lot) and it has the same effect over lipstick as it did on bare lips. Which was what i was testing today. And it worked.

And so that is me. I was a bit long winded today, maybe with everything seeming calmer I just felt like chatting. I hope you don’t mind. I am tickled my cotton swab idea panned out and I will be trying it elsewhere. I am also thrilled I thought up an advance plan for the left over green beans. I know, not buckets of excitement, but today, that is an amazing thing. Have a great rest of your afternoon.

The Daily: June 15th, 2022

Welcome my darlings to Ten Second Makeup with Mimsy.  Well, maybe fifteen.  This morning I got up and did the garden watering and after a little refreshing water, I felt cool enough to warm up for my yoga.  I think it is not only me adjusting to the heat but my body saying enough is enough we need to move whether you feel like it or not.  So it was a good session and I did feel better for it.

And yes I did feel more energized as well.

Stupid truth about exercise…

What I didn’t really feel like doing was putting on a lot of makeup.  Or really much of any if I am honest.  Right now, any step outside just means that you start to feel like a candle in an oven. The effect is worse when you are wearing a foundation.

But I did have some video calls this morning, so I had to do something.

Hence the ten second makeup.

Are you ready for it?

First the tools.  To accomplish this fantastic on the run look you will need a foundation brush, a powder brush and an eyelash curler. The eyelash curler is optional.  Of course, I suppose the foundation brush is too if you want to use your fingertips.  But those are the three tools I used.  Now to the products…

First layer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre.  You aren’t using a lot, but use the concentre as it works the best for this.  Something about the thickness of the cream makes it work better for a pre makeup base than the others, even if the others work better as moisturizers at this time of year.  This will moisturize you, but it really works well as a base .

Second Layer: Wet ‘n Wild Bare Focus Tinted Hydrator with Hyaluronic acid.  It blends into the skin concealing uneven tones with a very thin and light weight layer.  And while I love the hyaluronic acid in general for good skin health, here it does give a little bit of a plumping that keeps things from settling into fine lines.

Third Layer: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder. Mine is almost out as it has a thin layer of product around a very clear silver pan but this is a great quick powder.  A quick dust over the face helps the tinted moisturizer stay in place and takes down any unwanted shine without making things look powdery.  If you are out and about, I suggest taking this with you as it helps keep you from becoming shiny later.

Fourth Layer: Big Poppa Mascara from Wet ‘n Wild. First use the eyelash curler then add a quick swipe of product and you are done.  The lashes look good and give a finished appearance even if you aren’t bothering with Eyeshadow, which I am not.

Fifth and final layer, Yensa Super 8 Lip oil.  It has just enough pigment to look like you applied color without overpowering the barely there look of the rest of the face and it had a great shine.  It also has a nice fruity scent to it.

So there you have it my darlings.  It isn’t a look that will win awards or get massive applause for artistry, however if today is not the day you are feeling a full face of makeup yet still need to look like you made a little bit of an effort instead of simply rolling out of bed and into your desk chair, these are some great products that are great to have around.  And while I see them all lined up and realize that none of them are terribly expensive, when I took them out this morning, I didn’t aim to make an inexpensive look.  I just chose products that work for me on the fly.  Sometimes it is about knowing what works  And for me, this works.

And to be fair, with the Embryolisse base and the hyaluronic acid tinted moisturizer and the vitamin infused lip oil, it is actually a pretty healthy for my skin look today as well.  Since heat and makeup usually make me break out, I appreciate that as well.  As for me and my quick makeup look, it is back to work I am afraid.  Two more meetings this afternoon.  Admittedly all I have to do is nod and take notes on the few minutes that actually relate to me, so it won’t be too onerous. I just have to be there and not look like I rolled out of bed and onto the computer.  I think it is mission accomplished.  I’ll see you tomorrow and get back to testing that gold metallic pigment from Lottie London.  See you then.

The Daily: June 14th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. It is another hot one today and to be completely honest, I am feeling a bit lethargic. I woke up all right this morning, but then I started my day by walking outside and making sure the plants were watered before the sun was high enough to cause all of the moisture to evaporate. It was already hot and after coming in from the heat, i just didn’t feel like doing much.

Don’t get me wrong, I still had a lot to do, I just wanted to get it done nice and slowly. So there was no yoga or exercise of any sort today. I’m going to try to convince myself that late afternoon yoga is the thing but I’m not sure how successful I will be. I think part of it is that to keep the temps in the house down, I’ve closed the blinds on the sunny side of the house and pulled the curtains so half of the house is shadowed. As the sun moves overhead i’ll switch it up and open the closed blinds and close the currently open ones. That way the house gets sunlight but doesn’t overheat and force the systems to work harder than they need to.

It does make the house feel as though it is late evening and that i ought to just call it a day though. But as it looks like this is going to be par for course this summer, I need to work through the feeling. I still think today is mostly a desk day.

And since I am working on my own today with no calls of meetings, I decided to test the loose metallic shadow from Lottie London. I figured a day where it didn’t matter if i looked like I was in a fight with Tinkerbelle would be the best time to test it out. But I am jumping ahead of myself.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Lava Water Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Gold Rush Blush

Powder: Tatcha The Silk Powder

Eyeshadow: KVD Vegan Beauty single shadow paired with the Lottie London Loose Metallic Shadow in Golden Hour

Brows: Marcelle Nano Eyebrow Liner in Medium Brown

Mascara: ABH Lash Brag Mascara

Lips: TYS Beauty Lip Plumper

Okay the first thing that you may notice is that this list looks nearly identical to yesterday’s list. The reason is the primer. I wanted to compare the liquid silk canvas primer from Tatcha to their balm silk canvas primer so I went with the exact same face products as yesterday. It’s also why yesterday I chose face products I really like to use. I figured it would be easier to use two days in a row if I liked them.

So today I used my sample of the Liquid silk Canvas Primer from Tatcha. The original is one of my favorites so I was curious as to how it differed. It was really interesting actually. The liquid silk has a more liquid consistency than the solid balm as one would expect, but it is the same color. The fragrance is the same but it is slightly lighter so if scents bother you, that might be an element in the plus column. The liquid smoothed on well and blended in easily. It melted into the skin in much the same fashion as the original. It did need a moment longer to dry down and settle in before applying my foundation. It was also slightly stickier, so if you are looking for something to grip your makeup a little more securely, this again might be something to look into. While I think of the original as pore filling and blurring, this one I think might add more of a makeup gripping quality to it. the sample packet I have that came with my last order only had enough for one application. I might have been able to stretch it to two, but it is a foil packet so things can dry out and change. Given the one use, I think I would want to at least try a travel size of this primer. I really enjoyed this one use and would like to try it for a longer time. I don’t know if it will ever replace the original in my affections, but I am willing to give it a fair go.

I did use the last of the Tatcha powder sample today as well and I know that I am picking that up soon. It was a really good powder that didn’t look powdery and felt amazing on.

With everything else the same as before, it is now all about the eyeshadow. I used the reddish KVD single shadow as a base of color and then topped it with the gold to see how the gold works. when I used the brush I had flecks fall out and brushing them away just caused little gold streaks. So I applied with my finger. This worked well for application, but I think my finger was a little too large. I think tomorrow I may try a damp cotton swab instead. The bristles, whether dry or damp just scatter too much, I think something solid like a cotton swab would do better. So I’ll see tomorrow. Aside from the brush fall out, the pigment is doing a really good job staying where I put it. Thus far there isn’t any afternoon fall out. I’ll be double checking when i wash my face for bedtime tonight, but if it isn’t dribbling down my nose later, then I may try it out again tomorrow with the cotton swab (I have one meeting so if it dribbles I’ll wait until Thursday to try it.) Thus far, this loose pigment is impressive. I really like the shade so I hope it stays that way.

As for me, lethargy may have stopped the workout, but paperwork waits for no one. And so it is back to work for me. Have a great afternoon everyone. And stay hydrated.
