The Daily: May 25th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. The air is so much better today. Now that the system has purged itself of whatever was stirred up by the team working in the air vents and replacing the system has cleared out. Hear that? It is the sound of someone breathing normally with no itchy watery eyes. Not that itchy eyes make a noise. Most of the noise was me complaining about the itchy eyes. But the snuffling was real.

I don’t know about you but i am really coming to treasure the days where everything just seems to work. I know, it isn’t exciting and drama filled, but it is quite lovely. And we are approaching Memorial Day.

I know that is an odd thing to get really excited about, but My birthday is in June. And for my birthday I like to treat myself to a few little extravagances that I might just tell myself i don’t really need. I used to have a spa day at an actual day spa near me but the one near me actually closed and the last time (post 2020) that I tried to go it was somewhat more of a nerve wracking experience than a spa day typically should be, so I now tend to go for pamper myself at home products.

And I kind of use the Memorial Day sales to my advantage, pulling them together to make the money I’ve set aside for Birthday spending go a little further. May sort of blazed past me this year so I haven’t actually made a list of the things I want to include. In fact I haven’t really had a chance to look at the sales. I know Elemis has 25% off (Code MEMORIAL25) mostly because they sent a text. I don’t get a lot of text reminders, but I like enough of their products that I really like knowing when they have discounts and specials.

Wander Beauty also has a sale starting tomorrow, 20% off all orders with code: GLOW20! 30% off orders $100+ with code: GLOW30! I really like a lot of their skincare items, like their Glow Oil and their face masks. I also like their foundation and mascara (the Unlashed is particularly good). I keep meaning to branch out into more of their make up items I particularly want to try their powder foundation as it looks spectacular in all of the photos I’ve seen and it has gotten some pretty good reviews. Plus I like powder foundations in the summertime. The ones I use have a lighter feel to them while still providing a medium coverage. I also want to try their new silver eye masks to see how they compare with the gold ones.

There are heaps more sales and I will be sitting down and flipping through them to figure out which ones to take advantage of, but those are the two that caught my eye. Well technically there was a third. Huron is having a Dad’s and Grads sale until June 19th. They are a men’s body care company that my Babydoll loves. Their sale is an ‘Everything he needs’ bundle featuring their award-winning favorites: 12 oz. Shampoo, 12 oz. Conditioner, 12 oz. Body Wash and 3 oz. Deodorant in a choice of Original Citrus & Eucalyptus or Sandalwood & Black Pepper. My babydoll loves the Citrus and Eucalyptus. I’m pretty sure if he could coat himself in eucalyptus or stuff his pillow with the plant he would. But the deodorant works for him so I’m be bundling up for him when I plan my birthday treats.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Lorac Light Source: 3 in 1 illuminating Primer

Foundation: Yensa BC Full Coverage Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Doucce Posh Perfecting Powders Palette

Powder: NARS Pressed Powder in Eden

Eyeshadow: Tresluce La Flor De Mexico Eyeshadow Palette

Mascara: Blinc Ultravolume Tubing Mascara

Lips: KVD Vegan Beauty Epic Kiss Moisturizing Lipstick in the Female Gaze

The Lorac Primer is definitely illuminating and The Yensa foundation also tends to lean that way so I took a chance when pairing them. Oddly the combination was not as shiny as I thought it would be. I did have to tap a little bit of the Nar’s powder over it to tame down a little of the glow but it wasn’t as bright as I thought it would be. With the primer, I concentrated the product on the high points of my face. using it a bit like a highlighter that goes under the foundation really helped. I like a glow, but there is always going to be a limit for me where glow turns into ‘that looks greasy even though I know it is not’ With the Nars I was able to find a good balance for me with the two illuminating products.

And I adore the Yensa BC foundation. The skin on skin formula is just fabulous. And the skincare elements mixed in mean that if i have to wear the foundation longer than usual, my skin doesn’t suffer because of it. It won’t replace my skincare, but it does give it a little boost.

Shimmer so good, blending so bad

The buxom bronzer is one of those that i can make as light or as deep as I want. I go in light and slowly build it up. You can go in heavy and blend it out but I tend to do that only when I am using a winter light foundation on summer tanned skin by accident. Sometimes I just pull the wrong foundation out of the drawer. This is a good bronzer to help modify foundation choices. It has primer mixed in and I don’t know if that is what helps it out when adjusting foundation shades, but it works really well for that and is a summertime standby.

The Doucce palette I use because I really like the one blush in it. It is why I reach for it. The 61 RSVP blush is perfect for me. The shade is nice and works well with my skin tone. It is buildable and blendable. and just an all round good blush. I’ll occasionally use the highlighters because they are nice. Not spectacular, but nice. If I open the palette it is the ne blush I am going for and will just use the highlighter since it is open. With the Lorac and the Yensa today, I didn’t bother with the highlighter. When I have used up this blush, I would replace the blush, but not really the palette. I would buy it in a single pan formula.

I love the Blinc tubing mascara. It lengthens and creates volume. Just remember to use waterproof makeup remover when taking it off and things will go well (even if you aren’t using the waterproof version.) My favorite for removing eye makeup is actually the Klorane Cornflower Waterproof Eyemakeup remover. It is fantastically gentle and very effective.

This was the first use of the KVD moisturizing lipstick today. I really liked the angle of the product as it made it easy to apply smoothly and cleanly. The formula is quite moisturizing. It never dried down at all, it left lip prints behind and wore off rather than drying down. which is something to remember. It is a comfortable formula to wear though. It applies lighter than the product looks. I thought it would be a deeper berry shade but it was a bit brighter. I’m going to try this with a lip liner to see if I can deepen the color and get it to last longer. It is decent formula I am willing to work with though.

But I’ll be honest, today most of my get ready time was spent playing with the eyeshadow. While I’ll go into muh moe depth in tomorrows review post of the palette, this is a palette where the mattes really like to stand alone instead of mixing or pair with one of the shimmers. Blending was not their strong suit. The shimmers in this palette though are amazing. I think I would keep this palette just for the Green Nopal shimmer.

And so that is me today. Much less itching of the eyes and allergies tamed as I try to play catch up from a bit of a rocky start to the week. We have reached the mid point though and I am feeling good about the remaining work week. I think if I work a little late tonight, I’ll have finally caught up and be ready to roll into June without a back log of projects. Which will be really nice. Especially since I didn’t think that was going to be possible. So my darlings, it is back to work for me. Have a great rest of Wednesday.

The Daily: May 23rd, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today has been an interesting day. This weekend was a nice weekend of collapse which was desperately needed. With everything that has been going on both my babydoll and I very much needed a quiet weekend.

I personally also needed a dose of comedy, which I got actually. The Lost City has made it to Paramount+ and it was viewed with great enjoyment over the weekend. it was one of those movies that hit my radar and I made a note to go watch, but by the time it hit theaters I was swamped and local infection rates were on the rise again so I didn’t get to the theater. I was thrilled it was on Paramount + and if you haven’t watched it and are in need of a nice comedy, I highly recommend it.

Today however is less than quiet. After a weekend wishing that the rains would come and the air would clear, we finally got a storm. Last night as we went to bed the skies opened up. Today is drizzly and thankfully the temps have dropped down. For us this is especially nice as today is the day we get our air conditioning system replaced.

It was on the older side when we bought the house and we knew the replacement was coming (Plus there were a few additions to the house and the system we had wasn’t large enough for the house with additions (the garage was enclosed and the sunroom was added but the system wasn’t upgraded). And once we got a flash of heat this year our system just couldn’t keep up. There were leaks and it was well past warrantee. So we bit the bullet and the system is being replaced.

Which means that in addition to the park being flooded out, there are men thumping and bumping all around the house. It is a very loud day here. And I’ll be honest, by the time I thought about settling in to do my yoga, the men were already thumping and bumping around the house. I don’t mind doing yoga when i am by myself or with a class, it is a different beast all together to do it surrounded by workmen who are working on the house. My hope is that i will have time once they are done for the day. I have my fingers crossed but I suspect that today might not feature that much exercise.

I did however manage to get my makeup on.

there is no sun today so there are strange shadows in the pic

Today’s Look:

Primer: Lorac Light Source Illuminating Primer

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

Blush: NARS Blush in Angelika

Highlighter: Ciate London in Starburst

Powder: ABH Setting Powder With the Kim Chi Beauty Powder Puff

Eyeshadow: Tresluce La Flor De Mexico

Mascara: Wander Beauty Unlashed Mascara

Lips: True and Luscious in Vintage Rose

Today was interesting. Let’s start with the primer. I am still testing this illuminating primer from Lorac and it wouldn’t be a true test of a prime unless I used it with one of my favorite foundations, the No 7. This foundation has out performed man much more expensive foundations. I am a huge fan. It paired well with the Lorac today. I did go a little lighter with the primer and it gave me a soft glow underneath the foundation that I really like. I think the trick with this primer is going to be checking the amount I use and which foundations I pair it with. Today it worked well. Which is nice because I love my No 7.

The trestique bronzer (now refillable) is always top of my products to use. I figured since I was trying out a new highlighter and a blush I tend not to reach for i would use it. The blush is a NARS Blush and I’ll be honest, i don’t reach for it much because as soon as I open it my brain screams PINK and then I shut it and reach for something else. However I need to get over that. It applies really well and isn’t too pink when on the cheeks. In fact it looks like it will be a nice summer shade. So I need to get over the initial visual and just use it. I really like the NARS formula. In fact i have several NARS products I really need to reach for more often. I think because of the slim black cases they tend to hid in the shadows. I need to figure out a way to bring them to the front more, because they really are great products.

not really blending well

Today was the first use of the Ciate Highlighter. The blending wasn’t spectacular for me. I got there in the end and I like the look, but I think that this might not be an apply with your finger formula. Which to be honest is how I tend to apply my highlighters. Tomorrow I’ll try it with a brush, with a finger, blending was a bit difficult. But it is a nice shade and worth another try.

With the powder today I chose the ABH which is not my favorite setting powder. It dents to be a bit powdery for me. I did use the Kim Chi powder puff and you know what? I not only used a lot less with the puff but it was less powdery. I really need to look at getting some good powder puffs just to have around. I really like using them for setting powder and somehow makeup sponges don’t really have quite the same application.

The Wander Beauty mascara I love. The curved wand is excellent and the formula is fabulous. This isn’t my first tube and it won’t be my last.

And then we get to the Tresluce palette. Here is the think I’m finding. I like all of the mattes on their own. They don’t blend well with other mattes. The shimmers are stunning (and well worth buying the palette just to have). The shimmers layer well over the mattes but don’t really blend well. It is like a palette where each shadow is a bit of a diva and wants to stand alone. But the colors are fabulous so I will be playing with it more to see what tricks I can find to get them to blend.

Finally there is the True and Luscious lipstick. While I think the color is a little more pink than I like, that is easily fixable with a lip liner. The formula is however fantastic. It is a bullet style lipstick so lip prints are left behind, but it is a fantastically comfortable formula to wear. This is my first lipstick from this brand but i think I will definitely have to look into more shades. This is a really nice lipstick.

And that is me for the day. At the moment the work crew is drilling into the air duct just beside my desk. It makes me feel as though a drill is about to come up through my feet. So I might take a quick move around the house and possibly take my laptop into another room to work. It is a rather disconcerting feeling. But we are getting the unit replaced before the heat of the summer hits and it will not only keep us cool throughout the summer and warm in the winter, replacing it will drastically lower our monthly bills. So it is worth a day of banging (and the rather high price tag) just to have it done. Still me and my feet are relocating elsewhere in the house for a bit. Happy Monday.

The Daily: May 19th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. It has been a quite pleasant and productive day for me here. I got up a little early and took a walk first thing. Which was nice. It was humid but not overly hot when I started. By the time I got back to the house I felt like i was being smothered in a wet electric blanket, but that was at the end of the walk and I went straight into the shower. Admittedly the first few minutes I kept the water cool and then worked up to hot.

It is definitely time to start thinking about more indoor workouts.

I know, I say that a lot, but I really prefer the nice mind clearing walk in the fresh air sort of exercise to anything indoors. However as even early morning walks are now sweat and sun fests adaptations must be made. It was a great way to start the day. Lately my exercises have been pushed later and later, but I used to do them first thing in the morning. I really kind of miss that. I know I grumble, but that’s mostly because i really don’t like mornings in general. It is actually much easier to wake up, fall into the exercise clothes and get started before actually waking up completely then it is to convince myself to change clothes and begin the exercises mid afternoon.

It’s easier with walking as I can just walk when my brain needs a break. Less easy with planned workouts. I think it is because i am over all not a huge fan of perky people. And to be involved in fitness it seems you have to be perky. Plus they advertise goals that aren’t mine. I’m not trying to look bikini ready or run a marathon. I just want to get to a healthy weight zone.

I think I’d like to do an exercise video at some point. Instead of starting with things like, “Let’s get those bodies moving and feel those endorphins!” or comments about how fabulous you will look on the beach with your new bikini ready bod I think I’d start them with my own phrases.

They would include comments like “we know you’re here because your favorite jeans are a bit snug and you don’t want to break in a new pair in a larger size,’ or “You know moving is good for you after sitting in an office all day so stop whining and just get it over with.’

I admit, my workouts wouldn’t exactly be best sellers. Maybe i could just make them for me. Something to think about.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Lorac Light Source 3-in-1 illuminating Primer

Foundation: Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Gold Rush Blush

Eyeshadow: Tresluce La Flor de Mexico eyeshadow Palette

Mascara: Blinc Ultravolume Tubing Mascara

Lips: M2UNYC matte liquid Lip in SOHO

Today was mostly about the Lorac Primer. I went with the Catrice foundation because it is more matte. I really like the Catrice formula but hate the dropper dispenser. I usually just end up pouring the foundation onto my hand and dipping in with a finger. The dropper is why I don’t reach for it much even though it is a really good long wearing foundation.

It worked well with the Lorac actually. The lorac gave me shine under the matte which I like, especially as it wasn’t too much. I added a little bit of the primer as highlight over my cheek bones which worked well for me today. I have the shade dusk in the primer and the gold tones really work well with my skin. I am finding that with illuminating primers for me the gold tones work better than the clear or silver based ones. I think they look more glow and less wet and greasy. Perhaps it is just my perception, but I do like this on the high points. I am still missing the pore filling of other primers though so it is a trade off.

The Too Faced Bronzer is as always fabulous and we are entering the season where this one comes out more. It is a really nice blendable formula. It is a little dark for me in the winter but right about now it is edging into perfection.

You know I love the Gold Rush Blush from Benefit. And I know I reach for it a lot. I pulled it out today because i spend some time looking at their new blush releases. Yup that’s right, Benefit Cosmetics just released a new line of blushes. You can see theme Here. I am hoping this doesn’t mean that Gold Rush is going to be discontinued as it is one of my long term faves, but I have to admit that some of the new ones look fantastic. I am getting low in the Gold Rush Blush so I was going to order a new one soon. I may just look at one of the newer shades instead. I think they released yesterday in case you were wondering. I can’t wait to try them out.

The Blinc Tubing mascara I love. One swipe, fab lashes. What more needs to be said? Well perhaps that you need a waterproof mascara makeup remover to remove the mascara even though it technically isn’t a waterproof formula. It still defies water pretty well.

Then there was the Tresluce. I went for two of the darkest shades today using a dark green (Jardin) topped with the dark brown of Chocolate Cosmos. they blended well together, perhaps because they were so dark. But then I reached for the shimmer of green Nopal. I wasn’t expecting much but it is a beautiful green shimmer. I am in love. And I don’t say that about a lot of shimmers. I am over all a matte kind of person. But oh wow, I am in love. The dry brush didn’t work and I couldn’t find a setting spray so i used a finger tip and the green was just stunning. I can not wait to play around with the other shimmers. Nopal was just stunning and easy to use.

I think that is all of note today for both my look and my fitness plan. For now it is back to work for me. If I end up making that work out video, even if it is just for me, I’ll post it here for you to enjoy. Until then, it is back to work for me. Happy Thursday everyone.

The Daily: May 17th, 2022

I know I missed yesterday’s daily post and I apologize. I was just exhausted. This weekend was as horrible as expected. On May 6th, my younger brother died unexpectedly. He sat down, leaned back closed his eyes and was gone. While we will need to wait fifteen weeks to hear back for a final diagnosis, preliminary thoughts lean towards either aneurism or stroke. Regardless it was quick and hopefully painless.

While the shock threw me (and everyone else into a tailspin, the world is on a little more stable footing now. This past weekend was the memorial service which made everything real. As horrid as it was, it did provide a bit of closure which was especially important as the death came out of the blue. While grief will clearly take a long time to settle, A return to a more normal course is helping me to regain my footing. I planned to start back to normal yesterday and I made a good start.

But then I decided a destressing face mask would be a perfect break as my walk was overly sweaty due to high humidity and then I closed my eyes and was out. Luckily it was a gel like hydrating mask that could be worn overnight if you wanted and not a clay based one. I was out for several hours. While most of the mask ended up on the pillow, I did get quite the hydration out of it, as well as a much needed nap.

So today we slide back into our regularly scheduled routine. There was a walk today. It is always interesting in the spring. The humidity rises even though it isn’t all that hot and I feel like my pores have opened up and are having a good clear out. I have to splash water to rinse off the salty sweat, but at this time of year the walking always makes my skin feel really good once the sweat is rinsed away. It is as though it has purged toxins that I didn’t know it was holding on to. Of course that also results in a spate of clogged pores. It is as seasonal as my allergies. I’ll need to put some pore clearing masks on my to do list to keep things clear, but otherwise it is a good feeling.

Food has been hit or miss. Last week I nibbled but didn’t eat much, then I went home and ate a lot, more because people seemed to feel the need to feed me more than because I was hungry. It was actually a relief to have one of my Smoothie Box Shakes for lunch today. (I went with the orange one). There were a lot of heavy sauces over the weekend. They were delicious, but very heavy. More than anything it is a relief to get back to my own food.

I think I am going to try to sneak in a second walk this evening after the heat of the day breaks. I’m pretty sure half of the calories I am burning off right now are Cream of Mushroom Soup based.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Lorac Light Source 3-in-1 Illuminating Primer

Foundation: Bite Beauty Changemaker Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Gold Rush Blush

Powder: Kim Chi Beauty Puff Puff Pass Set and Bake powder

Eyeshadow: Tresluce La Flor De Mexico Shadow Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips: Elf Sheer Slick in Black Cherry

When I was packing my travel bag this past week I realized there are several primers I haven’t full tested. I think several came in at the same time and I got distracted. Today I skipped the pre makeup base of Embryolisse because I wanted to treat this as a first use primer and this primer has some skin care benefits I believe. I’ll have to double check that as I dive deeper into it. I love Lorac lipsticks and eyeshadow formulas but I don’t think I’ve ever tried any of their face products so this was fun. I know I tried this when it first came in, but I don’t remember it. There is very much a skincare like scent to the primer. It glides on well and this far it is working well. I chose not to add a highlighter because of this primer. It is a bit on the glow-y side, but it isn’t overly wet looking. The wet look just makes me feel like I look greasy. I liked the way this primer turned out today.

Today I reached for the Bite Beauty foundation because I just heard the news that the brand is going under. For years they were my go to for lip products. Their agave lip mask was hands down my favorite for years. Then in 2019 they decided to reformulate everything so the brand was vegan. They released their new formula in early 2020 and as we all know 2020 didn’t go as anyone planned so it was poor timing for a release. The thing is that their new formula wasn’t that great, at least with the lip products. I’ve had excellent vegan lip products but this just wasn’t an excellent formula. So they are closing and pretty much everything on their site is 50% off. Including this foundation. this is the formula still on sale and now that I have the hang of the formula I really like it. It is one of those foundations you need to use a makeup sponge for and go lightly with instead of applying with a brush. Once I figured out how to apply it correctly I fell in love with the formula. It is very lightweight and feels and looks natural. I was really looking forward to summer wear actually. while I usually use BB creams and tinted moisturizers in the summer this was light enough I thought it would work for summer wear and I was thrilled for a summer foundation. I’ll still use it, but apparently this will be it’s one summer of use.

The Buxom Bronzer and Benefit Blush are also summer faves and it feels like i am starting to naturally shift to my summer wear makeup. I will be shifting things around in the makeup drawers this weekend so the summer wear products are nearer to hand. This bronzer and blush will make steady appearances all summer.

The Kim Chi powder is one I am really liking. Part of it is the powder puff. I think that I am going to try the puff with other powders to see if the puff application is the main reason I like it so much or if it is the powder formula. So that will be fun to play around with for a bit.

This was the first use of the Tresluce palette and the colors are really nice. They are a bit more pigmented than I expected and they didn’t blend as well as I would like today. I used all matte shades today. I’m going to see if I can get the blending to work a little bit better, but the shadow formula was nice to apply. I did have to tap off the brush as it was a bit on the powdery side, but there wasn’t any fall out during application. Over all it was a good first use.

I then finished up with two of my favorites, The Stila mascara and the elf sheer slick. I am almost out of the Elf sheer slick actually. It is a nice light formula that is a summer staple. When I replace the Black Cherry i am going to look for one that is more neutral for a natural look day.

So that was me today. I’m getting back to normal. I’m sure there will be a bit of rockiness ahead, but today was pretty stable sailing. I am sliding back into my routine and tonight, there will be a second walk, followed by bean burgers. (I make my own patties rather than purchasing them). There will be no cream of mushroom soup in sight.

Meet The Barrier Bioactive Treatment

The Daily: March 29th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today I am in a much better frame of mind. Things are actually working as they should. Which is nice. Work may be work, but it shouldn’t come with extra road blocks. And while there are no real road blocks today, there is also no sun. It is a cold and dreary looking day outside and I am expecting rain at any moment.

I managed to get a walk in earlier (mostly because rain tends to flood out the walking trail for at least a day or two after the rain passes so I figured I’d get it in while I could. It was a strange walk though. The sky felt very heavy and it felt almost as though something was lurking above me hovering and waiting. I was actually the only one in the park but it felt like I was being watched. I know I wasn’t, because really, there wasn’t anyone there. It was just the sky.

It was the first time though I was happy to end the walk and get back inside. Today’s lunch was another of the Cacao Super Smoothies from Smoothie Box. This time I made it with Almond Milk. It was absolutely delicious, but I fear it may have made it a little too sweet. The almond milk paired with the chocolate and banana made it feel a bit more desert like than I planned. I think I am going to counter balance it with a Chomps Cranberry Habanero Beef Stick as my afternoon snack. It is only 90 calories so it fits well within my afternoon snack range and it is savory enough to counterbalance the sweetness.

I like almond milk but I always forget how sweet it actually is. It isn’t something I notice in cereal or as a dollop in oatmeal. Well actually in Oatmeal I kind of do notice it but it means I add less brown sugar so there it is a plus. I just forget about the sweetness when it is in the smoothies. I think Coconut water or coffee will be my next add in to the Cacao smoothie instead of the almond milk.

Which I know is a little more than you really want to hear about my lunch, so let’s just move on with the day’s makeup shall we?

Today’s look:

Primer: Lorac Light Source 3 in 1 Illuminating Primer

Foundation: Charlotte Tillbury Air Brush Flawless Foundation

Bronzer: Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua colour veil gel blusher

Powder: Becca Pink Haze (discontinued)

Eyeshadow: KVD Vegan Beauty Lolita

Mascara: Athr Beauty Big Bang Mascara

Lips: Zoeva Powerful Lip Twist

Today I used the Lorac primer which meant that I did not need a highlight. It is illuminating all on it’s own. For me it needs a matte foundation over it. I ended up using the Charlotte Tillbury, but I think this foundation needs to have a pore filling primer underneath it. i am already starting to see settling into the fine lines around my mouth. Also I did not use the Embryolisse under my makeup today and I can really tell the difference. this foundation feels much drier this afternoon than it has in the past week. That lait-creme as a pre makeup base really makes a difference.

I really like this ciate bronzer. It applies well and blends easily. After fiddling with the Nude Stix I was happy to use something that just works. And of course the more I use the Illamasqua gel blusher the more I like it.

I am still trying to use up the Becca Pink Haze. It did seem a bit more powdery today than usual. I don’t know if that is because it is nearing the end of it’s life or if my skin was just drier than usual. I think it may actually be a combination of both.

I just went for a single shadow which usually means I grab this KVD one, It is a nice color and one that works well for me. The mascara was an issue. I’ve been using it off and on for the past few weeks and it is already starting to feel empty. I think because I use so many layers to achieve the look I want it uses the product up faster. But it really shouldn’t be feeling this empty this fast. I’m going to keep using it, but I think it may not be long for the makeup bag.

And finally I went with the zoeva lip twist. The color is nice and the formula is creamy. The problem is that it is too creamy so it will never hold a point. I have a bit more application control with a traditional bullet lipstick. Despite the nice color, I will be using this up and letting it go.

And that was my makeup look today. It was for the most part quick and easy. I do miss the Embryolisse underneath. This is the final week of me using the moisturizer as my moisturizer for the test and after Friday I am just shifting the rest of the tube over to my makeup drawer as that is where it will do the most good.

But now, it is back to work for me. Have a great Tuesday everyone.

The Make up Bag: November 20, 2020

The Make Up Bag Used November 14th – 20th, 2020

This is going to be a bit of an odd post for me this week as I used a face palette from PUR for four of my face products.  This week the Pur 4-in-1 Skin Perfecting Powders served as the source of my powder, bronzer, blush and highlight. The link will take you to my full review, but overall it was a pretty good palette.

While I wouldn’t reach for each product individually, I would feel confident in adding the entire palette to a makeup bag without adding any extras to balance it out.  Quite simply my darlings it is a face palette where everything works well. I was very pleased with it.

I was less pleased with the LA Splash Eyeshadow palette. While I was thrilled Glossy Box had a full sized palette (and really that is very rapidly becoming one of my favorite subscription boxes) The mattes were powder but the shimmers worked well.

In the end I don’t think it was worth its $32 price tag as my $5.99 Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon Palette was so much better.  It did make me remember that I had that palette and will probably cause me to pull the wet ‘n wild palette out of the drawer and add it to next week’s makeup bag, so that was a plus.  But this palette was not my favorite. There are more details in my full review, but I would not recommend picking this palette up, even if I do still give a thumbs up to Glossy Box for the full sized palette.

With the eyeshadow I used both my Pretty Vulgar Lid Primer and my Pretty Vulgar Concealer in an attempt to get it to stay in place (not at the same time, you understand). I adore both products.  I really like the concealer as it does not crease on me and settle into fine lines and usually the Pretty Vulgar Lid Primer is like velcro for eyeshadow.  I was happy to have them both in my bag this week, even if there were some shadow issues.

This week I used up the last of my Hey Honey Trick or Treat CC2 as my foundation product.  I really enjoyed using this and am very sad my trial sized tube is now empty.  I will however be ordering it in a full size once I have worked through some of my open products.

Less successful this week was the First Aid Beauty Pores be gone Matte Primer. I love pore filling primers.  I love matte primers.  This was neither.  It is a very moisturizing primer. It feels good against the skin, but it is not filling any pores.  My skin liked it, but it didn’t do its job.  My pores remained unfilled and it wasn’t very matte. I am happy that it was a trial size and that the tube wasn’t really a full one.  After a week of use, the tube is empty and heading to the empties bin.  I will not be purchasing a full sized replacement even though I will be picking up a full sized First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Moisturizer soon.  While the moisturizer was a good product at least in a trial run, it seems to be a one off for me.  Other First Aid Beauty products don’t seem to work as well for me.

Doucce Eyeliner and Realher Brow pencil

You know what did work well for me?  The Doucce Ultra precision Eyeliner. After being so disappointed in the eyeshadow palette, I was thrilled that I really liked this eyeliner.  I tried it a long time ago (or a slightly different Doucce eyeliner) and loved it. It gave me a positive impression of the brand and then both the eyeshadow and mascara were only so so.  Which made me doubt the eyeliner.  But no, the eyeliner is just as good as I remember it.  It is creamy, glides on smoothly and stays in place all day.  What more could I want in an eyeliner? Oh yeah, to have it be on sale, which it is on the Look Fantastic site. They are having a bunch of sales, which I’ll post at the bottom of this post, but the eyeliner is on sale and this link will take you to that specific sale item (if you are shopping)

This week I finally got to open my Wander Beauty Unlashed Mascara. I had the Mile High Mascara opened and I couldn’t justify opening both at the same time, mostly because I knew I would just used the Unlashed and the Mile High would go to waste.  This is not a lengthening mascara, it is for volumizing and it always makes my lashes look thick and full.  It never flakes off and it lasts all day.  At least this was my impression with the last tube.  Now that the Mile High has joined the empties bin, I could open this one.  You know what?  Wander Beauty’s Unlashed Mascara is just as good as I remember.  I am a very big fan and so happy to have it open on my dressing table once again.

My eyebrows used the Realher eyebrow pencil, partially because I really like it and partially because I just forgot it was in the makeup bag last week and kept it around again. It was a happy accident and I enjoyed using it.  I’ll trade it out this week though.  But rest assure it will be returning.

Also from Realher this week was my lip pencil the shade number is 20218 and called I am Confident.  At first I thought the name was just a motivational slogan.  The shade is a nice neutral that worked really well with both my Lipsticks this week. The first was the Kristofer Buckle Cashmere slip lipstick in Bardot (yes I bought my favorite back out. I couldn’t help it).  The replacements are on the way and I want to use every smidge of this tube before they arrive. Plus, I just love the lipstick. Creamy long lasting and not drying. A clear winner.

The lip liner also went well with my Lorac lipstick this week.  The Lorac is in the shade Breadwinner. Both my lipsticks were neutral shades this week.  I expected to go heavy and dark with the eyeshadow. While that didn’t work out, these are two of my favorite lipsticks so I don’t mind the excuse to use them.

Lip liner on top, followed by Kristofer Buckle in Bardot, Breadwinner from Larac and ending with Black Cherry from Elf (the elf really is more sheer than it appears in the swatch.

And using the Lorac reminded me I wanted to look at ordering one of the new Lorac Pro eyeshadow palettes. I’ve been eyeing the Soliel Pro Palette for a while now. I had one of the original Lorac Pro Palettes a long time ago and it was well used.  Lorac, Urban Decay and Chantecaille used to be the only shadows I kept around.  I had the Chantecaille Luminescent Eye Shades in a couple of singles, one Urban Decay Palette and one Lorac.  I used the Chantecaille shadows down to pan, I replaced the Urban decay but tend to forget about it and my Lorac met with an unfortunate accident during a move. I was very sad. And I kept meaning to replace it.  Now they have a new line out, I will.  I also may keep this Lorac Lipstick in my makeup bag as a reminder to dip into their sales next week.

To complete my lipsticks, I made it a trio and added the Elf Black Cherry Lip Slick to the bag as well this week.  I really like that it gives me a good wash of color without the fuss. It is a great formula and I tend to reach for it throughout the day regardless of what I started out with.  While I thought about getting the whole line, my Elf order proved larger than I thought is was going to be so I just added an extra Black Cherry Lip Slick as back up for this one.

And finally to seal it all in, I added the Laura Geller Spackle Mist setting spray. It is in Coconut water and while slightly coconut-y, it is not a heavy scent and it really set my make up well. Especially after last week’s paint smelling setting spray. It was quite a nice refreshing change.

So that was this week’s makeup bag.  I really enjoyed most of it.  The Primer and the eyeshadow were failures, but everything else I tried worked well for me.  But the primer sample is empty and the eyeshadow palette is being passed along to someone who might enjoy it more. I can’t wait to see how next week’s bag shapes up.

The Make up Bag: July 31st, 2020

The Make Up Bag Used July 25th – 31st, 2020

Welcome my darlings once again to The Make up bag. I hope you had a fantastic week.  While I have been testing out new foundations fairly regularly for a while, some full sized and some only sample sized, I thought it was time to take a little break from the new and roll through some of the foundations that I enjoyed.

So I lined up all of the currently open foundations I have in a shade that works for me at the moment and a chose whichever one appealed most to me in the moment.  I’ll be honest, it was a pretty close tie between the Kristofer Buckle Triplicity foundation Stick and the Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Lava Water Foundation.  Since I just used the Kristofer Buckle last week, I went with Pretty Vulgar and I am glad I did.  I really enjoyed using it this week.  The formula works well for me and went well with the ELF Puff Puff Primer I tried this week.

This particular ELF primer is a bit more moisturizer like than I anticipated, but it worked well.  The link is to my full review if you’d like to get all the details, but I did enjoy the ELF Puff Puff Primer and will be keeping it in my rotation.

Making a continued appearance in my make up bag was the I heart Revolution Fixing spray in Peaches and Cream.  I know I’ve talked about it a lot, but I do like it.  I have about three week’s worth of product left in the bottle (as a best guess) so I will keep it around for a few more weeks in the hopes of finishing it out. It is nice, but it is an older product I’d like to finish out.

Speaking of peaches, This week’s eyeshadow palette was Peach Bellini from Makeup Geek.  The link is for my full palette review.  I really liked using the formula this week for a super simple low key week.  The shadows were highly pigmented and easy to blend.  Also the color scheme seems very summery to me.

Starting to see a little of the pan’s rings below the powder

Both of my powders this week were repeats The Ciate Everyday Vaccay was the loose powder and I have about three more weeks of use before it is empty so I will continue to use it until it is gone, then shift to other powders.

My pressed powder was the No.7 Perfect light in medium.  It is very rapidly becoming one of my favorite pressed powders.  I’m actually starting to see the outline of the pan below in the center.  While I will continue to use up the ciate next week, I will be sending the No. 7 back to the dressing table and picking out another pressed powder to try.

There were three more repeats this week.  The first is the Instant Age rewind Eraser from Maybelline which served as my concealer and eyelid primer.  I really liked it in both capacities.

Also returning was the Eyeko Fat Black eyeliner.  It is one of my favorites. Once in place, it doesn’t go anywhere and never seeps into my fine lines.

The go-to brand for eyes, focused on our award-winning mascaras, eyeliners & brows.

The final repeat was the Julep pore minimizing blush in the shade Rosewood.  I don’t know if it actually reduces my pores as there are several other products between my pores and the blush, but it is an excellent blush.  It is of the buildable variety rather than the highly pigmented, although you can deepen it a lot if you try.

Eyeko eyeliner and Hourglass brow pencil

I personally prefer my blush to be buildable and blendable, which this is. I believe Jlep is having a sale at the moment.  I’ve liked every product I’ve tried from them.  The products are easy to work with and the packaging is sleek and pretty.

I know packaging shouldn’t count as much, but it kinda does. At least with me.  I know, it’s a personal flaw.  But I do like the sleek design while my more practical side likes the fact that it is also quite sturdy.

Julep blush and Tarte mascara

And now for the new arrivals in my makeup bag.  The first is the Ace Beaute Bronzed in Paradise palette.  This palette had four shades of bronzer.  Only one works on me as a bronzer.  It is the third in the pan in case you are wondering.

The darker and lighter shades I could use as eyeshadows but not as bronzer.  In the winter I might be able to use the second shade in the palette but that is about it.  Truthfully, I don’t particularly care for these bronzers.

They oddly work really well as eyeshadows, but on the cheeks I found them a bit patchy and hard to blend. I might try working with it again, but I have much better formulas in my collection that I would rather use.

The Hourglass eyebrow pencil (shade soft brunette) also came in a Boxy Charm and I have to say, I really liked using it.  I really liked the formula and I really liked the precision point.  It is small enough that I could do really fine lines with it.

Do I like it as much as the Benefit Precisely My Brow?

Almost.

If I had to choose between the two I would still choose the Benefit, but only by a small margin.  I do like that it comes with a spoolie on the end. I will happily use this for a while.  Between it and the Il Makiage pencil I received from IPSY, I won’t have to buy an eyebrow pencil for a while.  And then I have my wet ‘n wild brow kit powder. So I am set for brows.  I really did enjoy the hourglass this week so I think I might just have to keep it around for a second week.

Really quickly I wanted to mention the So eco shading brush that came in my Look Fantastic box this month.  I added it to my makeup bag and I think it is going to remain in my bathroom brush jar for a while.  With the Makeup Geek Shadows the easiest way to work with them because they were so highly pigmented was to take a flat brush and set the shadow on the eye at the spot I wanted it to be darkest and then blend with a fluffy brush.  This week I used the So Eco brush as the flat brush and it worked really well.  The indentations in the handle were perfect for gripping and the bristles are really high quality.  So two thumbs up for Look Fantastic.

Unfortunately I did not have as good a luck with the Palm Balm from Beauty crop that came in this month’s Glossy Box. I added both it and the Milk makeup Lip and Cheek stick to my bag this well.  I figured since I had already used the Julep before and loved it, I would keep it as a back up and see if either of these two products worked.  Both the Palm Balm and the Milk Lip and cheek are designed to be products you can use on, you guessed it lip and cheek.

The Palm balm comes in a nice little glass pot and in the pan it is really stiff.  I had to rub my finger over it a lot just to warm it up enough to stick to my finger.  On the cheek it goes on okay, but it really hard to bend out.  It really wants to stay in whatever position you place it in first. When blending, I felt less like I was blending and more like I was scrubbing it off.

Anytime I tried it as a cheek product it ruined any other product I already had on my cheeks.  It worked better on bare skin, but I don’t know if that was just me rubbing it off or not.  On the lips it was interesting.  It gave my lips a nice tint and like the cheeks, once applied it wasn’t going anywhere.  It lasted the whole day as a light blush of color.

However it was also very drying.  Once I applied it I had to wait a moment and then top it with a Jersey Shore Cosmetics Lip Balm to keep my lips from drying and falling off my face.  With the lip balm protector it was fine.  Without it, I crumbled to dust.

The Milk Makeup Lip and Cheek also did not work on my cheeks.  It went on well but blended away to nothing with the first touch.  However it made an excellent lip balm.  It provided a light my lips but better tint and it kept my lips hydrated and moisturized.  I really enjoyed it and will keep it in my collection for my lips.  I won’t use it on my cheeks, but my lips love it. The Palm Balm will not be staying in my collection long.

There are 2 NEW SHADES of KUSH Lip Glaze. That’s 2 new ways to get conditioned, high shine lips. Nice to meet you Nova (nude) and Rosebud (rose).

I did have two more lip products in my bag this week. Although I did wear the Kristofer Buckle Bardot for National Lipstick day, it wasn’t officially in my bag this week.  This week I mostly used the Lorac Alter Ego Hydrating lip stain in Breadwinner and the OFRA liquid lip in the shade Pasadena.

Explore our best sellers for the hottest items from Kristofer Buckle!

Breadwinner is a light wash of color that feels comfortable on the lips and is really easy to wear.  I enjoyed it very much.  It doesn’t dry out the lips and is as hydrating as it claims.  It is not an all day color though.

On the days I wore it, I had to apply it when I finished my coffee and again after lunch.  It does wear off if you are eating or drinking, but it is a formula that is really nice if you want just a light wash of color that you don’t have to worry about.  It didn’t get on my teeth and it didn’t leave lip prints everywhere.  It will definitely make a reappearance in my makeup bag.

OFRA is on the top and Lorac is on the bottom. The Lorac was swatched multiple times to build up the color for the picture. it is much less pigmented on the lips

OFRA’s Pasadena will also make a return.  It is a nice neutral lip that works well for me.  So often neutral lipsticks either blend my lips into my face or just look brown.  This has just enough pin in it to work for me.  While the all day formula does stay all day and wasn’t drying on the lips, it does feel just a little bit sticky. It wasn’t terribly bad and because of the color I will keep it around.

The one I have is a trial sized liquid lip rather than a full sized.  I like everything about it except the slight stickiness.  If I can find another long wearing liquid lip in this shade that doesn’t have the stickiness, I would buy that.  I think the stickiness is the result of it never drying down completely. If I can’t find this shade in another formula that I like better, I will purchase a full sized version of this.  I know that is a strange answer.  It is a good formula that I don’t mind wearing, but I am hoping to find better.  However I am not certain I can find better. Perhaps that is a better way to put that.

The Tarte mascara on the eyes and the OFRA on the lips

Finally we come to one of my favorite items, the mascara.  I went with the tart Gifted mascara this week.  Tarte’s mascaras are always hit or miss with me.  There are a couple I really like and a couple I find to be just okay.  This one has a thinner, straight wand and I have to say I really liked it.  It made my lashes look longer and it lasted all day without any sort of flaking or smearing.  To be honest, I like it almost as much as my Kevyn Aucoin.  I know gasp. But don’t worry, my two favorites are still Marc Jacobs and Butter London. It just bumps The Expert Kevyn Aucoin down a notch on the fav scale. Not by much, just a little. In a horse race it would still be a photo finish.

Alright, well that was my makeup bag for this week.  I hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as I enjoyed writing it.  As usual next week will feature a brand new bag of makeup for me to try.  Some will be old favorites and some new finds.  With luck some of my new finds will be good enough to become old favorites.  But now it is back to work for me.  I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday and I will see you back here this afternoon for the Face Mask Friday post.
