The Daily: September 15th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today was a lot quieter in some ways than others. No fire engines screaming down the street in front of my house today for one thing. Which i always appreciate. However today my baby doll was home for part of the day. He scheduled several different doctors visits today, Nothing’s wrong they are the standard check up sorts of appointments. He just has a habit of scheduling them on the same day. They were not scheduled together though. So instead of leaving the house at his normal work time, he took his time this morning before his first apointment.

A lot of his taking his time involved strolling in for conversations with me. They weren’t major conversations. He just had things occur to him that he felt like mentioning. He remembered I hadn’t made the crab dip he liked in quite a while (it is both high caloric and absolutely delicious) and he wanted to know if we could have it as a celebratory treat when i returned from my mothers. He also strolled in to ask me the name of the actor in the show he likes.

And yes that was how he put it. He couldn’t remember the name of the show. So we played twenty questions until he figured it out. which is fun but it sort of broke up my morning a bit. I caught up when he went to his first appointment and then slowed down again when he returned to tell me not only about how his appointment went but about some parking lot antics. (it is an eight slot parking lot for a two story building filled with medical offices. I’m not sure who thought that was a good idea but it has led to a more or less permanent state of war between them and the more spacious parking for the dental surgery offices next door.

After a while he left for his second appointment. I’m sure when he returns there will be another conversation. It is more an amusement than a complaint actually. He often claims that when he is home and i am still working he is so silent and unobtrusive that I can forget he is there. And if I mention his little visits he will say something like “one time, i came in one time in all the days i was home while you were working.’ And he honestly believes it. Which i just find amusing.

Especially since I spent yesterday catching up and even getting a little bit ahead. So that was my morning. I did manage to put on my makeup today. I went for a super quick five minute look though.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: One Size Turn Up the Base Powder Foundation

Bronzer: Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronze

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Highlight: The Beauty Bakerie Milk and Honey Palette

Eyeshadow: Lawless Beauty The Baby One Palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lipstick: Mac Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath

I am almost finished with this Elf primer. There are only one or two uses left of product in the container so i will finish it out and then go back to rotating through my primers. I do have a back up of this primer in the drawer so it will be in rotation but this one is almost done. this is one of those primers that is well worth keeping around. It works so well with most foundations. They make a variety of them now but I still go for the original one as it works best for me.

Today was a quick makeup look and i am still testing out the One Size powder foundation. This is a pretty good foundation to use in a hurry. I did a quick stipple like application with my foundation brush and got a pretty good light/edging into medium coverage really quickly without it looking powdery. The more i use this foundation the more i am liking it actually. As I didn’t have the best performance with the One Size Eyeshadows it is a pleasant surprise.

I used the ABH Bronzer today as I hadn’t used it in a while. it was probably not the right bronzer for the day. It is very pigmented and wants something way more dramatic than my casual every day look. If needs a medium to full coverage foundation to stand on. I went in lightly and still had to blend out a bit more than I planned. This is a highly pigmented bronzer that wants to give you that well defined contour line. It did not want to be bothered with a low key look.

I love the Illamasqua blusher. It blends easily and I think I prefer cream products with this powder foundation. I don’t think it is as necessary to go for the cream products as it was when I tested out the Covergirl Aqua Smooth, but I think the cream products help the powder foundation from becoming powdery. It isn’t powdery on it’s own, but I think layering powder products on top could make it so. At least I seem to be liking it more with the cream products thus far in this test.

I took out the beauty bakery Highlighter palette because it always makes it through my declutters because it looks so pretty and swatches well. when applying it though it seems to be more sparkle and less glow. I may play around with it a bit more to decide if it stays or not. I don’t think it went too sparkly today but I prefer the glow highlighters rather than the glitter. This might be right on the edge. More use and observation is clearly needed.

With the eyeshadow I went for a one and done look today. Oddly this shadow I used (Shade Cozy Bundle) was a bit more patchy than the other shadows I’ve used from the palette. I managed to get it to blend out (I applied with one shadow brush and then took a clean blending brush over the top of it. Given how easily the other shadows have blended I didn’t think I would need the second brush for a one shadow look. It isn’t a major issue, but something to think about as I continue to play around with this palette.

I went with the Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara today. I like it as a good solid everyday mascara but I tend to get a little bit more length than volume from the formula. it isn’t a dramatic formula but a good everyday one.

And finally I ended with the Mac lipstick. Mac is a familiar standby and one I will continue to use. For me this is a good warm neutral lipstick. it applies well and easily. It is a buillet style lipstick so it needs to be reapplied after lunch but it doesn’t dry out the lips or do too much crumbling. It is as always a nice formula.

And that my darlings is todays look. It was quick and easy and designed more to be used at the desk or running to the grocery store than anything else. As my day has more or less involved sitting at my desk and will later involve a quick run to the grocery store (we ran out of eggs, well not so much ran out as my babydoll knocked the carton into the sink and caused an egg-tastic explosion, but we are still out). So this look works for me. But now I need to run. I hope the rest of your Thursday is absolutely fabulous.

The Daily: April 26th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope all is going well for you today. Here it is pouring down buckets. And while it does more or less doom my walk, both today and undoubtedly tomorrow as the floodwaters take over the park, I am feeling a little smug. Over the weekend my plants went into the garden and now they are getting the benefit of the rain.

Looking out into the garden makes all of the pains feel worthwhile. Or at least justified. And it is most definitely letting me put the muscle cream from a recent Boxycharm to the test. I’m still forming my thoughts on that, so I’ll get back to you.

Today there was yoga in the sun room, which was actually quite pleasant. Normally when the sun is not out the sunroom feels very cold. today with the rain sheeting down it felt very pleasant. Kind of warm and sheltered. It was a nice way to get a work out in. I still prefer the walks, but I am okay with taking a break from them now and again. And the yoga kept me from getting antsy between end of the month wrap up projects.

Today’s Look:

Pre Makeup base: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Primer: Yensa Tone Up Primer

Foundation: Yensa Super Serum Silk Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzer stick

Blush: Illamasqua Colour Veil gel blusher

Highlighter: Saint Luxe Liquid Glow

Powder: Kim Chi Puff Puff Pass Set and Bake Powder

Eyeshadow: Sandbar The Mirage Palette

Mascara: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara

Lipstick: MAC Love me Lipstick Bated Breath

Today I made a specific choice to use liquid and cream face products because I wanted to test something out. Yesterday I felt a little powdery as the day wore on. Today I wanted to see if I could counteract that with cream products. But lets start from the base and work outwards.

I used Embryolisse to start as moisture is my skin’s friend. And really I do not use much. It is a fraction of what I would use when i used this as a moisturizer. It is just enough to plump the skin with moisture before adding products on top. And it is really working out for me.

Because I noticed yesterday that the silk serum foundation was not as glow-y as the BC foundation I went with a a kind of glow-y primer. It is the Yensa one. I have used this one off and on for years and absolutely love it. It is something that I have no problem reaching for and was happy to pick up today. It has a slight tint to it which helps reduce the need for a concealer.

My skin was a bit on the glow-y side but not overly dewy when I applied the foundation. I know dewy is the look a lot of people are going for these days but half of the time I see someone with dewy skin and I just think they look greasy. Especially if that someone is me. I just can only take a certain level of dewy before I reach for the powder to pat it off. It is a personal preference but I don’t see that one changing for me. I was okay with the level of dewy.

As I said I wanted to try cream products with my setting powder to see if I could find a balance and I think today it worked. I used two of my favorites, the Trestique and the Illamasqua and they worked really well for me. I am really starting to like cream products more and more for my face. I don’t know if they have gotten better (because I have tried some stinkers in the past) or if I am getting used to using them or if my skin has reached an age where they are preferred, but i do like them. And these are two of my favorites.

This was my first use of the Saint Luxe and it is something i am going to have to play around with to see how I like it. I so like that it has an applicator wand so that it can be dotted precisely on the skin. I will be playing with it for a while and then comparing it to a couple of other liquid highlighters.

Once the cream products were applied I went for the Kim Chi Setting powder. I love the powder puff. It is thick enough to be practical. It is an actual powder puff instead of a thin little bit of foam. To be honest, once this powder is empty I will be keeping the puff to use with my other setting powders. Mostly because I do like a powder puff over a brush for final setting powder. It lets me use less product and to put it where it needs to be. Over cream products a little of this powder went a long way. It dimmed the shine back, which for me was preferred. I like the slight tint to it. It suits my skin tone well actually (PPP03 Translucent, in case you were wondering). The first time I tried it, I did notice that it got a bit powdery. i don’t know if it was because I used too much or because I used it over powder products. This is only the second time I’ve used this. Today i used less and I used mostly cream products and my makeup is still looking fabulous. As it is a new product, I will still have to play around with it.

Today with eyeshadow I went with the one matte and one shimmer look to see how they played together and I ended up liking how they blended together. It is a super simple look. The matte brown did take a little bit to work with. it is just so highly pigmented that One dip into the pan, a tap off of the excess and then applied to the lids still requires a second clean brush to blend it down. So even a quick and easy look takes a little time.

And the look was finished out with the ABH mascara and the Mac Lipstick. Both tried and true. This particular shade of MAC I need to think about replacing soon as the level of lipstick has lowered considerably. It is one of my go to lip products. It is one I will reach for first and then often have to remind myself to use something else today. Of course I have been eyeing the Ruby from the line as well so when I order there may be a couple of shades coming my way. But that is a thought for a different day.

As for today, I am happy with the look. And I just saw the mailman pull up outside of my house. My Look Fantastic box for April was hung up in shipping and is expected soon and this month there was an issue with my Underclub subscription. Basically it was never picked up by the postal service. So even though they told me April will be shipped out with May’s subscription, I still feel it’s absence and keep looking in the post. It’s absence was greatly felt this month. Although the Underclub service team was really nice about things an got back to me really quickly. So I am off to rescue the mail from the rain and then it is back to work for me. We are approaching the end of the month and it has become madness at the desktop. But the good thing is that by Friday it will be over for the month and next week should be smooth sailing. Or at least a more normal work load.

The Daily: March 24th, 2022

Ah, here that sound? It is the sound of the telephone not ringing. Isn’t it glorious. It has been mostly silent all day. And yes, after yesterdays everyone must call Mimsy day, I did think the ringer might have gotten turned off. But no, apparently everyone got their calls in yesterday. or my phone is just exhausted and no longer putting them through.

It has been kind of nice. I went on a long walk this morning and felt really good about it by the time i got home. It was as though in addition to exercising the fresh air simply blew the mental cobwebs away. of ciurse it also almost blew me away too. the wind was something fierce today. All of the trees in the park looked like they were competing with those blow up balloon men they have outside used car lots. You know the plastic tube attached to a fan?

It was like nature said, “I can do that too you know.”

It was interesting walking in such wind. At times it sped me along and at times it felt as though it really wanted me to work for every step. I’m sure it will balance out in the end. It is rare that wind is a factor in my exercising.

I did have to dodge a run away wheelie bin on my way back to the house. It was empty and being chased by a man clearly working from home. He had the dress shirt and necktie on, paired with superman pajama pants and socks. Not something you see running through the neighborhood often. Kind of fun. And he did managed to secure his trash can without spillage, so all was well. And I got my exercise in.

Today’s Look:

Pre-makeup: Embryolisse lait Creme

Primer: Lorac Light Source 3-in1 Illuminating Primer

Foundation: Wander Beauty Nude Illusion Foundation

Bronzer: Nudestix Nudies Bronzer stick

Blush: Illamasqua Colour Veil Gel Blusher

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: KVD Beauty Single Eyeshadow in Lolita

Mascara: Athr Beauty Big Bang Mascara

Lips: Mac Love me Lipstick in Bated Breath

I’ll be honest, today was mostly about picking up quick products that i didn’t have to think about too much. Except for the primer and Bronzer. The new primer arrived in the mail yesterday and i couldn’t resist using it. Because it is so illuminating, I ended up leaving off the highlighter. I love the way it applied. It has a sort of skincare scent to it, so I am going to have to look into the additional properties. I think this is a primer that I will have to think about the foundation I pair it with. I think for me it will go well with a matte foundation, but i think it would be too glow-y for me if I tried it with an illuminating foundation. So it will be something to watch. If you like a more glow-y look this might be something for you to look into. For me it added depth to the foundation that I really like. I will just have to play around with it.

Todays foundation was the Wander Beauty Nude Illusion. I really like this foundation. It’s sole drawback is that when you pull the doe foot wand out it splatters small drops over things. So you have to remember to open it over a cloth of some kind. Beyond that it is fabulous. Because it is my skin tone for the winter, I have been reaching for it on weekends. The reason is that I have had it for a while and it was getting low on product. I didn’t want to risk it hanging around for another summer just so I could use it next winter. As a result, today was the last use of product. So this tube of wander beauty is off to the empties bin. It was a fantastic foundation and I will be purchasing it again once i’ve whittled down my currently open foundations. This color is fair and it matches me well in the winter and edging into spring, but it is already getting to the time of year where garden chores have my skin shifting tones so perhaps it is a good thing I am letting this go. if I purchase it for winter use again I will go with fair. If not then I will have to figure out my shade. I will have to see about that when the time comes.

The Illamasqua, No 7, KVD Vegan Beauty and Mac lipstick all performed beautifully. They are some of my favorite go to products and I don’t have to really think about them. They work and they are fabulous. The Athr beauty mascara is growing in me. it takes a few coats but then everything is great and thee is little to no fading or flaking throughout the day.

And then there is the Nudestix. I like the color and I like the pigmentation. It is just not the best at blending. It wants to stay in that one line. If it can it will. When you start to blend it, it starts to disappear as though it wants to go off and sulk somewhere. I suspect it is a formula that needs to be warmed up before use. I am going to try holding it in my hand to warm it up a bit before my next use to see if it performs better. At the moment though, I’m not a huge fan. I will keep playing around with it on the chance that it is user error. Lord knows I’ve made mistakes applying product before.

And so my darlings that is my look. I was going for simple easy breezy and I think i got there. I really liked going for the one and done look with the eyeshadow and I am both sad and proud that the Wander Beauty Foundation is now going to the empties bin. Sad it is leaving, but proud I managed to use every last drop before it expired. I know, strange thing to be proud of, but it makes me happy. I hope the rest of your day is fabulous and I will see you back here bright and early tomorrow morning.

The Daily: March 14th, 2022

Oh my darlings, we had ourselves a rollercoaster of a weekend here. I went to bed on Friday night and it was 57 degrees outside. Temperatures plummeted in the night and I woke to 22 degrees and four inches of snow on the ground. I know that doesn’t sound like much but when you live in an area that sees more wind storms than snow storms, it was enough to cancel any form of plans anyone had. most places were closed and for some reason everyone raided the grocery stores for bread and milk, along with coffeemate. I don’t know if the store was just running low but every flavored coffee creamer in the refrigerated aisle was cleared out. Which I found a little amusing.

And right on cue with the snowstorm, my Easter dress arrived from Ever Pretty. I remember so many Easter Sundays where I had the thin little Easter dress and was given the pretty cardigan to wear over it to keep warm only to have my legs feel like they were freezing off. So it seems appropriate that the dress arrived.. It also necessitated a full length photo which I almost never take, mostly because I tend to take the photos myself. If given a camera my babydoll will aim it in the general direction, take the photo as quickly as possible before moving away, lest he be asked to take another one. He is not a fan of the camera.

But I needed the picture so he took it. And while I love the dress the full length photo reminded me how much weight I still have to lose. I can pretend if it is just a head shot. And I know, I am doing the slow chipping away, but it feels like I have been at a stand still for a while, so there may be some revaluation this week, possibly followed by a consultation with a professional. I ended up feeling both good about myself and bad about myself all in one fell swoop.

I’d like to say I am above it and that because i am working on my weight I let it go, but it is a hard thing to let go of. It was harder as this past week showed a gain. Even though it was justified, it still didn’t help my frame of mind. I’m using it to motivate me instead of letting it get me down. That’s the positive.

I’ll also say that the time change didn’t help matters. I woke up feeling like someone stole an hour from me this morning. I’m not a morning person and Spring Forward always hurts Me and the coffee pot are best friends today. So yeah, over all this weekend was a real rollercoaster of emotions and thoughts for me. But thus far Monday has actually been chugging along nicely. I’m anticipating a late afternoon crash and decline in productivity, but this far, things are going well.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer

Foundation: NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Ciate London Marbled Light Blush

Highlighter: Nomad Cosmetics in Moonlight

Powder: Becca Cosmetics Pink Haze

Eyeshadow: Karmela Cosmetics Defiance palette

Mascara: Big Poppa from Wet ‘n Wild

Lips: Uoma Lip Liner in Angelou and MAC Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath

I am still working my way through the primers and foundations to see what stays and what goes. I’m actually impressed by how many foundations I let go honestly. I know some of them were almost empty but it still counts. Today I paired the Too Faced Hangover primer with the Nars foundation. They are actually a great pair. The too Faced Primer I can only wear for a limited amount of time in the year. It is a fantastically hydrating primer. Unfortunately once the world heats up, it is a little too hydrating for my skin. It is great at this time of year though. And I enjoyed using it.

The NARS foundation I forgot about. It is more full coverage than I usually use, which is why I haven’t reached for it. It is a great formula though and as most of the foundations I did clear out are more full coverage, I will be keeping this one and using it up. It is a bit on the light side for me, which is another reason that I don’t reach for it a lot. While I like the formula, I don’t know if I would purchase it again. There are other formulas I simply prefer more.

I really should have paired it with a darker powder but I saw the Pink Haze and realized I hadn’t used it in a while. It is a Becca product and Becca is, alas, no more. I am trying to use it up to clear it out and then looking for a new pink powder to replace it with. i really like having a pink setting powder for days where I just look a little pale and wan looking. It is a great way to brighten the skin with out going crazy. It is a subtle warmth to the skin.

Both the Buxom Bronzer and the Ciate London blush are two of my favorites, although the blush is deep enough I probably should wait until I have more of a tan to use it. I was sad to see that it wasn’t listed on the Ciate Site any more. I think it is just not currently available rather than discontinued. At least i really hope it isn’t discontinued as it is my favorite Ciate Blush. their other blushes are okay, but this one works well and blends much more easily than the others I’ve tried. So hopefully i is just out of stock.

Today I reached for the Nomad highlighter because it is one I’ve been holding onto for a while without using. It is a purple toned highlighter that looks a bit holographic when it catches the light. It is lovely and I love looking at it. But I don’t wear it much. In truth the reason it has lasted so long is because I have no other highlighters like it, not because I wear it. It wants to be just a bright stripe of highlight and doesn’t blend well, which is what I like my highlighters to do. I put it on and wasn’t really a fan. I think what I may do is transfer it to my single shadows drawer and see if I like it better there. It is a fantastic color, just not for my cheeks.

This was the second use for me of the Defiance Palette. Today I went only with the mattes to see how they worked. They apply with nice pigmentation and I like the range of shades as it looks like a good everyday palette. The blending didn’t go so well. Several of the shades disappeared when I started blending. I think tomorrow I may try it with a lid primer, but while the colors are nice, the shadows were not that impressive.

I am more and more impressed with the UOMA lip liner though. I am finding myself reaching for it more and more often. The shade is perfect for an everyday look for me. It is stiff enough that it gives sharp lines well, but soft enough that I don’t feel i am using a number two pencil on my lips. On it’s own it can be a little drying, but it is not nearly as drying as most lip liners when used for lipstick and can be worn on it’s own. Usually when I wear it alone I put a little lip balm over it which helps. It also pairs well with one of my favorite lipsticks and that is the MAC Love Me Lipstick in Bated breath. The color is fantastic for everyday wear and I have worn it quite low. I am going to have to replace it soon actually. And when I do I will probably also add Ruby to my order. It looks like the perfect red shade for me and you know I am still on the quest for the perfect red lip. If it is MAC I will be thrilled because I love this formula.

And finally I topped this look off with the wet n wild mascara. It is a great formula that gives me length and volume and quite honestly puts some of my more expensive mascaras to shame. It is one of those use well after opening. I only keep mascaras six months because of possible eye contaminants, but this is a mascara that won’t let you keep it past six months. Right on the six month mark I’ll notice it starts to clump a little. Until then it works perfectly. It is almost like a built in product timer. Which I’m not mad about. Partially because I sometimes lose track of what I opened when. This year my goal is to have fewer mascaras open at a time. I think I am down to about four open ones so I am doing pretty good. I have a couple of open ones that have only a few more months left so I think I am doing well. Personally I would like to only have about two open at a time. I’m not sure I make that goal though as I sometimes have a hard time not opening a new mascara. But I am going to try.

And so my darlings that is me today. I am chugging along, trying not to grumble about the time thief who stole an hour from me this morning and I am thinking of ways to revamp my workout routine and possibly start chipping off some of the weight a little faster. Not hugely fast you understand, because it always worries me when weight drops too fast. I just want fast enough that I no longer feel like I am standing still. And god almighty I would like to get under 200 lbs. You have no idea how much I want that. So tonight there will be time spent in reevaluation. For now though, it is back to work for me. I hope the rest of your Monday goes swimmingly.

Spring Into Clean Skin Campaign – Shop Curated Bundles

The Daily: February 17th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. It is amazing how a small think like an unexpected blemish can completely throw you off your game. But fear not. A combination of acne Fighting products, and cleansing masks and exfoliation have set me right again.

Or at least closer to normal.

My skin is feeling better and for the first time since Monday I actually felt comfortable putting makeup on my skin. whenever my skin freaks out over anything (breakouts, too much sun, windburn or an allergic reaction) I just find it better to do as little as possible. I treat and then leave my skin alone. So that is what I did this week. I know not as much fun and as I had a palette and a foundation I really wanted to play around with it was kind of annoying.

But the skin wants what it wants.

As for the rest of the body, I did get a walk in this morning. The temperatures are still warm and rain clouds are massing on the horizon, but rain has yet to fall. The wind however is another story. we have a wind advisory going and it is no joke. While we secured all of our patio furniture this time (because running after lawn chairs isn’t something that should be repeated) others were not so lucky. Trash cans were the biggest run aways today. We live in an area that is bisected by two town limits and the county line. Each town has a separate trash collection and the county adds a third. Our trash gets collected on Fridays, the other town has Wednesday and the county has Thursday.

i know that sounds strange, but trash days you can actually see the lines as they appear on the map based on trash can placement. Today was county trash day and the street where the county line hits is on a slope. The large wheely bins full of trash are heavy enough that they are stable but several had their wheels turned the wrong way so the wind pushed them down the street. It was like the trash cans were trying to run away. Maybe they have plans to form a wheely bin gang in the cul-de-sac at the end of the street.

I do know the wind was enough that there was only one short walk today. It is the kind of wind that makes you feel like you are actually having trouble breathing. Not great for exercise. I will probably break out the workout video in the sun room later to makeup for it.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch

Foundation: Natasha Denona Transformatte Foundation (still on sale for 50% off on the site – not an affiliate code, just something I saw when getting the link)

Bronzer/Blush/Highlight: Ultimate Glow Getter Palette from Real Her

Powder: bareMinerals Mineral Veil Powder

Eyeshadow: Juvia’s Place The Nubian Palette

Mascara: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Lips: Uoma Lip Liner in Angelou And MAC Lipstick in bated breath

Today even though my skin was feeling better I went with a porefilling and smoothing primer. I will still test the foundation with no primer under it, but today was not that day. I really like the Clarins primer and it is one that I will reach for when my skin is feeling a bit rough. Plus the red glass jar always feels luxe to use.

Today I applied the Transformatte foundation with a makeup sponge rather than my brush. I get a bit of a fuller coverage with the sponge than I do with the brush. Part of that is that I think I end up using more product with the makeup sponge than I do with the brush. While I don’t mind the sponge, I think for this foundation I prefer the brush application and perhaps a smoothing with the makeup sponge. Part of that is because I prefer a lighter coverage and part is so that I just prefer applying with a brush and then going in with the makeup sponge for details. Both look good but I think it boils down to a preference thing.

For simplicity today I went for my Real her palette and my bareMinerals powder. Both are fantastic. While I am doing fairly well with rotating my face palettes, I really need to put my bareMinerals powder away and use some of my other powders. I love setting powders and I have a couple that are close to being used up and I really want to use them up to make some space, but it is hard not to constantly reach for the bareMinerals. it is just such a good product. I will try though.

Today was interesting with Juvia’s place. I deliberately went in a little heavy handed with the brushes and as a consequence I had more fall out from the shadows as I applied them. I do really like them though and even heavy handed the fall out was pretty minimal. I am noticing however that because of the somewhat limited range of colors, most of my looks with this palette are going to come out looking very similar. I still think it is a great everyday palette. The shades are absolutely perfect for my office and meeting looks and I can see myself using it for work a lot. I just think the color range is going to make the shadow looks a bit on the repetitive side.

The Uoma lip liner is the perfect shade of lip liner to blend with the MAC Bated Breath. I don’t have a lip liner for the lipstick and as it is one of my favorite lipstick shades, that is really nice to have. It is a shade darker than the lipstick and it lasts longer than the lipstick so after lunch I did notice a distinct lip liner line on my lips, so that is definitely something to remember. I’m going to have to see if it matches any of my liquid lip liners enough to give it a try with them. But it is a good lip liner thus far. Not super creamy, but rather long lasting.

And so that was my look for today. It was nice to actually put on makeup today. It felt like my week was actually getting back to normal. While the moisturizer debacle did throw me off my game a bit, my work load this week was pretty heavy and I did sneak in a few extra warm weather walks so it wasn’t just the blemishes throwing me off my game. It was just one of those weeks.

The Daily: January 25th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope you are all having a fabulous Tuesday. The sun is shining here and I have to admit, I skipped my planned morning workout to go on a longer walk. It was 50 degrees and sunny.

I regret nothing.

I did come home to a full e-mail in box and several text messages so it was sort of a trade off on time, but truthfully, I regret nothing. There were too many days last week where I didn’t leave the house for me to feel bad about extra walking time. There was a little extra time spent in conversation with my neighbor’s daughter.

My neighbor Agnes has some form of dementia and so her kids and a nurse take turns staying with her and her daughter came in today and found that all of the notes reminding her Agnes not to go out of the house on her own were taken down. Agnes folded them and made them into a paper chain. They were folded quite intricately. Apparently this has been going on a while. The family puts up nots, Agnes leaves them for a day or two then takes them all down and folds them into a paper chain and then the family puts up more notes.

Its like some form of non-verbal protest against the restrictions. Or at least that is what the son (who is a psychiatrist) thinks. Agnes’ daughter just wanted to check with me to see if she had been actually going out or if it was just the taking down of the notes. Mostly because when Agnes leaves the house she seems to just come over to our house.

Despite the note removal, Agnes hasn’t left the house and I text the family every time she does so it is just the notes. And a quite elaborate paper chain. Its the sort of paper chain that my mother used to make with gum wrappers when she was a child. It was actually kind of impressive.

Today’s Look:

Primer: LYS Secure Skin Gripping Serum Primer

Foundation: KVD Vegan Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation

Bronzer: LYS No Limits Matte Bronzer

Blush: Ciate London Marbled Light Blush

Highlighter: About Face Light Lock Fluid Highlight

Eyeshadow: Formula Z So pretty Palette

Mascara: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Lips: Mac Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath

Okay I am still testing out this primer and today, I used it with the KVD Powder Foundation. i really like this foundation as normally it is quick and easy to use. It blends beautifully. Today, it ended up patchy because the primer gripped it in strange ways. It went from a foundation that was easy peasy to apply to one that was a struggle. This far this is the only formula that I’ve tried that has this issue. (and the KVD has never had this issue before). I think this primer just doesn’t work well with powder foundations.

Today I also decided to use the LYS bronzer. It is okay. It is a large pan which is nice and the packaging is pretty. The formula is buildable but can also blend away to nothing if you aren’t careful with it. It is a bronzer I will use since I have it, but not one I reach for often and not one I would repurchase.

The marbled light blush from Ciate is a product I love, reach for a lot and would happily repurchase. However when i went onto their site I noticed that it wasn’t there. I am really hoping they just need to restock it. The above link will take you to their illuminating blush, which is also nice. I have it and use it, but I do prefer the marbled light.

lots of fall out, I had to clean up more after this photo was taken

I took out the About Face Highlighter today mostly because it was in the drawer with the LYS Bronzer. This is another product i don’t tend to reach for often and I need to actually keep it out to give it more of a trial. It is a liquid highlighter and the container is large and over built. It is pretty but it takes up a lot of space for a 0.5 oz bottle of product. Today I put it on and it looked a little more greasy than illuminating. so I put a little bit of powder over it and it more or less disappeared. At that point though I had already spent enough time getting the primer and foundation to get along that I didn’t really want to spend more time on the highlighter. I think when it came in I tried it once but never played around with it. I might do some playing and see what happens. At the moment, I like the packaging but am not so thrilled with the product.

Today I went again for the Formula Z palette. Today though, I only went for the mattes. Mostly because I couldn’t find my eyelid primer. I’m going to try to locate it tonight. Then I’ll play around more with the glitters. Because these glitters need some help to sty in place. the setting spray did it’s best by by the end of the day I had bronzed glitter contours down the sides of my nose. While an interesting look, not really what i was going for. So I played around with the mattes today. There are only two. One almost perfectly matches my skin tone and the other is a dark brown. I applied the dark brown and then blended with the lighter skin matching shade.

They are both powdery and I have both colors in better, easy to blend formulas. This got there in the end, but it was more of an effort then I wanted to put into what basically amounts to a one and done shadow look. If I end up keeping this palette, it is going to be because I like the glitters and don’t have that many in my collection. I’m not keeping it for the mattes.

The Eyeko Black magic I am keeping. While I prefer the formula of the Lash Alert from Eyeko it is still a good formula and I am still happy to use it. And honestly it was a relief to just swipe it on after the make up issues of the day. The MAC lipstick was also a treat. I appreciated the mascara and lips causing no issues whatsoever. Plus this is one of my favorite neutral lipsticks. It goes well with my skin tone without completely washing out my lips into my face. And MAC always has a great formula. They were my first love in lipsticks and remain dear to my heart.

So that was my makeup look today. It was more of a struggle than my daily makeup is. Usually if I have this much trouble it is because I am trying something fancy i saw on a tutorial. And generally making a mess of it. Normally my every day looks don’t take a lot of time. This took a lot of time. And still came out looking like an everyday office look. If I take this much time with my makeup, I want it to look spectacular. Not bad, wasn’t worth this kind of effort. But some days are like that my darlings. I just like to keep them to a minimum. Hopefully that means my meetings later this afternoon will go smoothly. One can only hope. And now that I know to avoid powder foundations with this primer, I’m sure tomorrow will be a brighter day. At least as far as makeup application goes. Happy Tuesday!

Creatives to Promote Hint Still

The Daily: December 7th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. Today, my nose is a little less runny and the sneezing is thankfully less. Which means that it is actually just the up and down weather and not an actual cold. Saturday the temps were in the upper sixties to low seventies (I know far too warm for this time of year) but it was warm air pushed in front of a rain storm. The rains came and it is now in the thirties. Such changes always make my nose feel somewhat offended. Hopefully the temps will settle down and we won’t have such major shifts for a while.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

I’m not counting on it though.

Even though the sun has actually started to peek through the clouds, the air is raw and damp and large portions of the walking trail are flooded, so workouts today were again in the sunroom. This time with an actual bit of sun included. I have to say the hand weights and yoga mat from Prosource Fit were a great investment. (they still have a 60% off sale going on right now). I’m not comfortable at the gym right now and sometimes weather prevents the walking trail from being used. I like having the back up of the weights and yoga inside the I can still move a bit even if I don’t get my full work out in.

while I will never really be a gym sort of person, I’ve incorporated daily exercise into my routine for so long at this point that if I don’t at least get a little bit in each day I feel really off balance and twitchy. So it was You Tube Yoga and some workouts with weights today.

This afternoon’s sheet mask is going to be the I’m Lavender Mask Sheet from Tony Moly. I think I’ve used their Hemp mask before but I don’t recall using the lavender one so this will be a fun one to try. Hopefully it will be both hydrating and soothing without being overly floral. I don’t like when sheet masks are overly floral. They tend to make me feel like I should wash my face after, which sort of defeats the purpose of the mask serum in the first place. So we will see how that goes. I’ll let you know on the end of month masking recap.

For now, let’s talk makeup.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Figs and Rouge Blurring Primer

Foundation: KVD Vegan Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush: Rodial Blush Drops

Eyeshadow: Storybook Cosmetics Little Briar Rose Palette

Mascara: Roen Lash Cake Black

Lips: MAC Love me Lipstick in Bated Breath

Glasses: ThinOptics

I forgot to take my reading glasses off when taking the pics. Personally, I love these readers. they are so light weight that they make no dent in the makeup and are super easy to wear. Also the case clips onto the back of my cell phone so I always have them with me. They are the MVP of my work life at the moment. Oh and if you think you may need readers but don’t know the strength, ThinOptics now has a Clarity kit so you can easily find out. My eyes have always been bad so glasses and readers have been a part of my life for a long time. And having readers I like to wear makes me squint less, so it helps with the fine lines around my eyes almost as much as the eye cream. After all not helping them to form is better than fighting the ones already there.

The primer and foundation I’ve been using for over a week now and I will be posting my full reviews on Thursday. The short version is that the primer is good at blurring and the foundation is more full coverage than I would have given powder credit for. In addition it doesn’t look all that powdery when on. Admittedly I used more cream products with it and skipped powder itself most of the time when using it, which helped.

The we have the blush drops. I like cream blushes. well, I like some cream brushes. I’m just not sure i like this one. when the drops are first placed on the skin I thought, that is a bit bright. then I blended it in and thought, where did it go. I added a little more and when blended it looked better. Of course today I think my entire face looks a bit on the pink side, but I’m not sure that is the blush. I certainly didn’t apply it on my nose. I think that might be due to the sneezing.

With the blush, it is a light pigment on the skin that easily blends away. I think I might want to try it with a BB cream to see if it lends itself more to a more natural look. In addition to the color, I am not entirely certain I like the texture of it against my skin. It is a heavier weight than some of my other cream blushes. I may actually swap it out for a different cream blush tomorrow so I can do more of a comparison, but to me it feels a little heavier on the skin. I may play around with it a bit more, but at the moment it isn’t looking like a top product for me,.

The storybook Cosmetics palette I always enjoy using, as long as I stay away with the blues. It is the rosier tones in this palette that I really like. The shades can be a bit powdery so tap off your brush before applying. They do blend well without becoming muddy. However they also tend to fade a but by the end of the day. You will still know you have eyeshadow on after eight hors of wear but it won’t be nearly as vibrant.

It you are interested in the palette, when I went to grab a link for reference I say that it is on sale. Usually it is $55 but right now it is $15. I think several of their other palettes are on sale as well. It is good eyeshadow, just remember to tap your brush and not to expect it to last for a full 12 hours. It’s big drawback is it’s size which is why I have it out as a decorative element rather than in the drawer. It simply takes up a lot of space. The book design is cute though. So at least it looks nice out.

The Roen mascara is a good basic mascara. It works well, but there is nothing spectacular about it. I will happily use this until it is done, but once gone I will see no real reason to repurchase it.

And finally we reach the lips. MAC is a long time favorite for the lips (although there aren’t a liot of their other products I really gravitate towards). This is a great color for me and feels very comfortable to wear. It is one I will continue to use and one that I will certainly replace when it is gone.

So that my darlings was today’s makeup look, the good, the bad, the indifferent. Well maybe indecisive would be a better descriptor than indifferent. either way there are products I love and products I will just use for now.

The Daily: June 1st, 2021

Good afternoon and welcome to June. It still looks very strange to see that written out. Over the weekend the temperatures dropped so now it feels like it is back to being early March. Over the weekend though we did get to open all of the windows and completely air the house out. The fresh air was nice, however the biggest benefit was not watching our central air system struggle between seasons.

And of course now the house feels extra fresh and clean. Which is nice.

I don’t know if it is just because we are coming off a three day weekend or what but today it feels as though everything is taking twice as long as usual. Its like that extra day made everyone completely lose their place from where they stopped on Friday. I really hope that it is just a slow start to the week and not a sign of the entire week.

I don’t think it helped that I overindulged this weekend. There was dinner and drinks with friends on Friday night. Take out and then a barbeque for Memorial Day. I lost track of anything even resembling a calorie count. Today I got back on track though and went back to writing down what I am eating.

On the plus side, the weather is absolutely fabulous to walk in right now so I got up early to start summer hours (even though there was no heat to beat today) and managed to get two long walks in today. I may have gone completely off track this weekend, but I am back in the correct lane now. And I plan to stay on track.

You will also notice that I went a little over board with the trimming of the bangs this weekend. I trimmed them and then realize they were lopsided so they ended up shorter than I planned just so I could make them reasonably straight. I think I need to clean up some details, but by the time I ended up with what I have I needed to step away from the scissors more. While it turned out okay, it really shows off how bad my brows have gotten. Clean up begins tonight. However…

Today’s Look:

Primer: Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum Foundation

Bronzer: Ace Beaute Bronzed in Paradise Palette

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Primer

Highlighter: Huda Beauty Highlight in Capri

Powder: Ciate London Extraordinary Loose setting powder

Eyeshadow: Too Faced Melted Chocolate matte Eye Shadow in Amaretto

Mascara: They’re Real Magnet Mascara from Benefit Cosmetics

Lipstick: MAC Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath

This week I am testing out the Too Faced Liquid matte eyeshadow. I have the one color in Amaretto. It came in A Boxy charm actually. I love the fact that it is matte as every other liquid eyeshadow I have is a shimmer. Today I wore it alone and in upcoming days I’ll try pairing it with other products. This first use was interesting. I found my fingers were more useful for blending it than the applicator stick. I will be playing around with it, but as a one shade across the lids it worked really well, dried down pretty fast and didn’t crease at all. Thus far it seems like a pretty good product.

In fact everything that I used today I liked. I think this No 7 Foundation may be one I reach for a lot this upcoming summer. I may have to check the shades though and get one slightly darker if it is available. I really like the way it melted into the skin and felt weightless. It is definitely a formula I will be keeping handy.
