The Daily: July 27th, 2022

Good Afternoon my darlings, I hope your week is going well. Yesterday my babydoll had dental surgery so I spent a large chunk of my day working in the waiting room on a lap top. It was surprisingly productive actually. With the exception of me and one older gentleman reading a newspaper on the other side of the waiting room, everyone else chose to wait in their cars. While it eliminated my sport of people watching, I did get a lot of work done, which was nice.

And the surgery went well.

Today my babydoll is home resting. And my resting I mean he has taken a lot of pain medication and while he is relaxing on the couch he is periodically moving around, mostly to come in and either ask what I’m up to or to tell me something about the show he is watching. I thought he might be lonely so I tried sitting on the couch watching television with him for a bit but he didn’t really want me there. he wanted to sprawl out on the couch and then periodically come in to tell me something so he could stretch his legs.

Which has mead this an interesting work day. Twenty two minutes seems to be the gap between visits. Occasionally it will be twenty five and occasionally eighteen but it seems to average out to twenty two minutes. I’m sure if you ask him tomorrow then he will claim he only came to ask me a few direly important questions once or twice during the day. And a week from now he will claim that when he is ill or hurting he just wants the space to be left completely alone. That seems to be his mental picture of himself. It isn’t reality, but it is the version he likes.

Today there was no walking and while I have gotten up from my desk a lot more today, I didn’t work in a workout. Tomorrow he is back to work though so I am going to take advantage of the extra work time I used yesterday to plan some extra work outs tomorrow. I’m hoping that will make up for missing today and possibly help to balance things out.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Illamasqua Gel Sculpting stick

Blush: Pixi by Petra Peach Honey Duo

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Palette

Eyebrows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Kit

Mascara: Tarte Gifted mascara

Lips: Wet ‘n Wild Megalast Lipstick topped with Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb

Today I reached for the Tatcha liquid Silk canvas Primer because it was light on the skin and quickj and easy to apply. There is no waiting time really and light and quick was more or less today’s style. Plus I am never upset reaching for a Tatcha primer. It just works beautifully.

The bareminerals also falls into the light and easy category. I like the way it blends and takes down redness, evening skin tone. It does have a bit of a glow-y look. While I am getting more accustomed to this look in the cooler months, in the summer time it just makes me think of sweating so I dust it off with powder. Since my favorite powder from No 7 is at the end of it’s life I am using it all this week so that i can bit it a fond farewell and then repurchase. It is a standard item in my bag. often I have two, one for the makeup drawer and one that stays in my purse. With not going out as much after I finished the one in my makeup drawer I took out the one in my purse to use. (I didn’t want to just leave it there to linger and go bad since I wasn’t going out. I actually transferred all but a lip balm out of my purse actually. The hand lotions and sanitizers I still go through quite rapidly so they stay, everything else has been taken out. which I might need to look at soon since I am starting to go out more than I was so another switch might be eminent. But that is a tale for another time.)

The Illamasqua bronzer is performing well. I chose to use it today because it can be a light touch product. it can also be darkened for drama, but the lighter application works well with the tintes moisturizer level of coverage. It is just enough.

I decided that since i was going light I would take out the Pixi Duo. I like the blush. It isn’t going to be a favorite but it is good for a light look and I don’t mind using it. I don’t care for the highlighter side of the duo, but the blush is nice.

iMethod is my go to brow product. i did hurry today so one is a little lopsided. You need to line up the stencils and not rush that aspect. Once you get that done, you are golden.

Today I switched back to trying out the lunar beauty palette. It is not a highly pigmented formula, however if you tap off the brush before applying the product then there is also no fall out. which is nice. I will be playing around with this for a while as I try to figure out how it performs and how i feel about it.

Tarte makes great mascara and this is not the first time I’ve used the Gifted clay formula. I really like it. it works well without flaking and is great for everyday use. My favorite tarte mascara is still the Lights camera Lashes but this is still a really good formual and not the first tube of this that has ended up in my makeup.

And finally the lips. I love the Wet ‘n wild Matte formula. It does last a long time and it is comfortable to wear. While it doesn’t dry out my lips in the winter, I have found that if I am spending time in the sun it is best if I put something on top. Today I went with the Fenty Beauty Gloss bomb. The wet n wild doesn’t dry out my lips but if left uncovered the matte lipstick can look a little dry in the summer sun for some reason. With the topper there are no problems.

But now my darlings I must leave you. I have just been asked ‘how crunchy is too crunchy do you think’ and now there is movement in the kitchen. so I am off to point out that popcorn and dental surgery don’t mix. As this is the second time with this conversation i think I might hid the bags of microwave popcorn, keeping them out if sight for a few days at least. Have a great Wednesday.

The Daily: July 19th, 2022

Have you ever bought something because it was too pretty to resist? There is this brand called Zeesea/Palace Cosmetics and their packaging is just beautiful I picked up a powder compact from their Egyptian Collab with the British museum and it is my favorite compact. The powder is good. But the compact is fantastic.

Well in my quest to shake up my subscription boxes I found that Zeesea now has a monthly makeup subscription. I started looking into it and realized that while I love the compact, and often ogle their lipsticks, I hadn’t actually tried any of their makeup products. So I used this as an excuse to order one of the eyeshadow compacts from their Palace Identity Line.

It arrived last night and it is just as pretty in person as it is on line. I think it took about a month to reach me. And I couldn’t resist using it today. I’m going to call it research as I decide whether or not to try out the subscription from the brand but the truth is it was very pretty and I sometimes just like pretty things. I like them better if they work well, but it is very pretty.

Other than that I am dodging rainstorms today. It is incidentally why my hair isn’t looking fabulous. it has been wet several times this morning as I run around. I attempted part of a walk, this morning as it was a little cooler. The rain caught me. It caught me again when I was checking in on the garden. Since it has been mostly me at the desk working with no video call interruptions I let my hair just be what it is going to be today. I’m hoping to get a bit more yoga in later this afternoon. I just have one set of revisions to go before i can take a breather.

Today’s Look

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Kim Chi Beauty Thailor Bronzer

Blush: Pixi by Petra Peach Honey Duo

Powder: By Terry Hyaluronic Acid Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Palace Identity Compact eyeshadow palette from Zeesea

mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Eyebrows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Kit

Lips: TYS beauty lip treat

Today was a very low key look. with the bareminerals being a light tinted moisturizer I decided to see if the Pixi duo worked better with it. It is of a light enough hue that with actual foundation products it was getting a bit lost. So I decided that this would be a good time to test it again. I also wanted to see if the Kim Chi bronzer could be toned down for a more natural look. with the Kim Chi I found that I needed to swipe the brush across the product and pat the bristles on my hand once and then do a light touch application. This managed to add just enough product to the cheeks. It is a very blendable formula so I think it is worth playing with. I do think that it wouldn’t be my first choice for a natural look, but I like that I can make it work if that is the bronzer I have to hand.

With the Pixi, the blush was fine. The peach shade with only a tinted moisturizer works well. I don’t like the honey highlight. I think it performs more like an old school white contour than a highlight. If I was going for the dramatic contour, I would put this under the contour line before blending to enhance it. I don’t do that sort of contouring anymore, and it wasn’t my favorite even when it was in fashion. I do like the blush for a light look though so i will probably keep it around for that side of the duo.

When applying the By Terry today I used a makeup sponge. It worked a lot better than the brush with this powder. There was less of a dust cloud. It is a very finely milled product. However using the sponge did tend to leave a few white spots from the powder. I used a clean brush to sort of blend them in and all was good. I like this powder, but i think that I would look into picking up a version of it with a tint if I were going to purchase in a full size. It might be my skin tone or my application, but I think a little tint to the powder would help me out.

I am loving the iMethod Beauty brow stencils. It is just so simple and easy to use. I am bad with brows and this makes me less bad at brows. What more needs to be said. This is going to be a standard. I’ll put it aside to test other products of course, but I’m pretty sure this is now what I am going to be testing them against.

And now we have the pretty palette. It is just beautiful. Today I used all of the shades at once just to test out pigmentation and blending. I went with only dry brushes. The deep pink at the bottom is very pigmented and I think I went in a bit heavy. There was no fall out though it was just a brighte pink then I wanted. I think the other shades are more subtle and I think tomorrow I will leave off that bright pink and see about creating a softer look. To be honest I don’t mind setting the Lunar Beauty to the side for the moment because i really want to look at some tutorials with it before I play around with it more. Despite the multitude of pans all my looks with it are more or less the same. So I’ll play with the pretty palette while I look into the other.

And yes, that is a justification.

Rounding out the products was the TYS Lip treat lip plumper. It stings like it is going to make your lips huge, but the difference is very subtle. I do like it as a gloss. I will probably use it until it is gone and then never bother replacing it, but it is fine as a slightly holographic gloss on days where I just want a little lip love. Today it worked for me.

And that my darlings was me today. I know I was mostly just excited that the pretty compact came in. And it is just as pretty as I thought it would be, so i am pleased. I still don’t know about the Zeesea subscription, it will be something I have to think about. But I do like using the pretty compact and the shadow was not bad. It is certainly something to think about.

But for me it is back to work now. I hope the rest of your day flows smoothly.

The Daily: July 5th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings and I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. At our place, because we had the weekend cleared for company and company came and went early, we had a fantastically quiet and oddly productive weekend.

There were limited numbers of things we could do in the yard as anything not getting watered (i.e the veg) is more or less dry and crispy. So there was no mowing and only watering the veg sparingly just after sunset.

The sunset watering is of course the reason why I have so many bug bites. The perfect time to water is also the time when they swarm. Thus far they have laughed in the face of any bug spray I have tried. Admittedly I think they wait until I am starting to sweat a little and then go for the spots where the sweat has removed some of the spray.

At least that is my current working theory. If i could figure out a way to get a group of people to hold citronella candles high in a circle around me as i water I would. Sure it would look like some sort of odd midsummer ritual but I might actually itch less. I don’t think I have used this much calamine lotion since I was sent to summer camp as a kid.

But the plants are coming along. We have paperika peppers dried and ready for grinding. Soon we will harvest jalapenos and the squash and eggplant is coming along nicely as well. The tomatoes are slow growing this year but I have high hopes we’ll get something before it is time to winterize the beds and plant the fall Brussel sprouts.

On a less botanical note, with my garden chores reduced to sunset and early morning watering, my nails are recovering. They are still short as they always take a beating during spring planting, but they are healthy and I can now actually put polish on them and expect the polish to last for more than 24 hours. Which is always fun. Over all it was a nice quiet weekend and now, things are getting back into a normal schedule. I suspect by Wednesday I will be freaking out over the Monday Holiday and the time it took out of my work schedule, but for now, I am just basking in the return to my regularly scheduled work day.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Unicorn Glow Long Wear Primer

Foundation: Wet ‘n Wild Tinted Hydrator

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush/Highlighter: Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey

Powder: Zeesea X British Museum Refreshing silky powder from the Egyptian Collection

Eyeshadow: Natasha Denona Cupid Mini Palette

Mascara: Unlashed by Wander Beauty

Brows: iMethod Beauty Brow Kit

Lips: Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in Diamond Milk

Today I wanted to go for a more low key kind of look. And despite getting back into my routine, I really didn’t want to spend a lot of time messing around with my makeup so I decided to go for a quick and light look. The primer I am still testing out and it does not really lend itself to quick. It needs a minute or two to settle in and get comfortable. So I applied it and then went and did a couple of things for about five minutes before coming back. With that little time, it really helped and I am growing fonder of this primer. It is nicely porefilling and blends well.

I always get a little nervous when I first apply the wet n wild as it always looks a little too light. But it blends beautifully if you are just looking for a light coverage. It claims to be buildable, but I generally find if I try to build it, then it gets a little streaky. I love this tinted moisturizer for a light touch though. Just be aware it looks light at first but blends out well. And don’t really expect it to be build up to fuller coverage.

The trestique I love and it worked well here as always. It is buildable but today I went in with a light hand and was pleased with how it worked.

The Pixi came in a Glossy Box so i decided to try it out. It seemed to work okay with the tinted moisturizer but tomorrow I may have to try it with an actual foundation. It is really a light product and the highlighter came off a little more powder like than highlighter. I will be playing around with it before i decide. It was okay today, By the end of the week I will know a little more.

I used one matte and one shimmer for my eye look today, Subtle and natural is really not this shadows reference point. it is highly pigmented and wants to go on strong. Since I have three of these mini palettes, I am going to be rotating through them this week as sort of a mini collection to see how I feel about them I like them this far, but I don’t think this particular mini palette is designed for a low key look. At least not on my skin tone.

I love the Wander Beauty Mascara, but I am almost out. This tube has been well loved and sadly this is the end for it. Thee was almost no product left and so this was it’s last showing. I will be replacing it sometime soon however. This mascara will return.

Even thought my brows aren’t really visible they do look nice under my bangs, and as my bags blow around, I like that my brows look nice. The more i use this brow kit, the faster I am and the more convenient it feels.

And finally I went back for the gloss bomb. I’m not the biggest Fenty Fan, but I love this gloss bomb and will repurchase it. In fact I am looking at several shades I want to add right now. I’ll do a lip inventory first, but I really like this formula. it looks god on and leaves my lips nourished when it comes off. With this one, Fenty hit it out of the park.

And so my darlings this is me today. Not fantastically exciting, but I am rather pleased with how it turned out. I hope wherever you are, your week is starting off on the right foot as well.

The Skincare Line Up: April 8th, 2022

This week I feel a little bit bad for my skincare. I have several breakouts, but they are the result of too much sugar in my week. I won’t harp on it here because i have mentioned it a lot this week. But it does make me feel bad for my skincare. they put in the effort, I simply sabotaged them when they weren’t looking. You may notice that there are a lot of products in that picture above, mush more than is usual, even for me. Many of those bottles are actually empty. And a couple of the items are rolled in as replacements. Also I have two non-daily products in the mix, on for Tuesdays and Thursdays and one for every other day.

I’ll separate them out below so this week there are three sections; Day, Night, and Other. The picture to the left is my bare skin. I forgot to take it in the bathroom, but as I hadn’t put on my makeup for the day, i went ahead and took the pic at my desk, hence the light and backdrop difference. Also I finished my Native Deodorant (actually the last of it popped out of the tube unexpectedly and landed on the floor). I had an extra Dove Deodorant in the drawer (I keep it as back up for when I am testing natural deodorants that may or may not work) which I pressed into service. So now that I have given a lengthy intro to match the extra products pictured, let’s get into it. As always, we will start with the day time lineup.

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash

Essence: Time Revolution The First Essence 5X from Missha (currently 30% off but get an extra 20 % off with code EASTER20 – sitewide sale code)

Serum: The Nue Co’s The Pill

Toner: Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre (Sensitive)

Sunscreen: Light Hearted Broad Spectrum SPF 30 from Sunday Riley

Okay we have a few changes this week. I finished up the Missha Cleanser. Although gone, it will be returning. I pulled this Kate Somerville from the collection of cleansers I need to work through. It is a clear gel. It smells slightly florally but the scent is very light. The cleanser has minimal foaming but seems to work well. To be honest the most notable part of it thus far is the cap. Instead of twisting off, it twists and opens a hole in the center so you don’t have to fumble with putting the lid down somewhere while you use it. I am a fan of this. Thus far the cleanser is nice. I have no problems continuing to use it, but at this stage the cap is the most notable element.

I live the Missha essence. It is quite fabulous. almost no scent whatsoever so if you are sensitive to scents this might be something for you to look into. It absorbs quickly and I j=know this will sound strange but when applying it I feel as though my skin is opening up. Like my pores are opening wide. It is an odd sensation. Not a bad one, just odd. But as essences are designed to open the skin to increase the efficacy of the other skin care you are using I suppose that is a good thing. I kind of like the feeling too.

The Pill by the Nue co is about half way finished and while I love the shape of the bottle and how it fits in the hand the serum itself is kind of meh. I have two Nue Co products in my line up and the other (used at night) is really great. I am just not really liking this one.

The Pixi glow tonic toner is completely empty. It was nice. I like Pixi by Petra’s toners. they generally work out well for me. My favorite is the clarity toner so I would probably purchase that one over this one, but this was a nice, lightly exfoliating toner. I haven’t chosen it’s replacement yet but in the Other section below there is a toner used once every other day so I’ll need to roll in something for the between times.

The sensitive Embryolisse cream has been interesting. This is the first week of use actually. I really like it. It has much less of a scent. It is still there and still the same scent as the original, but it is less present. In addition the cream is a slight bit lighter. I think this is perfect timing as we are starting to see warmer days. The sensitive cream is performing just as well as the others and there has been no noticeable difference. I think there will be more of a difference as the sun heats up and I am curious to see how it performs as a pre makeup base, but for now I am thrilled with it.

And speaking of the sun, the time has come where a daily sunscreen is no longer optional. I know, I need it year round, but the truth is I spend a lot more time indoors during the winter and when walking outside for the daily walks I use a spray sunscreen before I leave the house but don’t add it into my skincare line up. Once April hits, this changes and sunscreen is placed in the skincare line up. (I still add the spray sunscreen before my walk as a back up just incase I forgot.)

I tried a small sample of this Sunday Riley sunscreen and really liked it. So I was happy to have a full size to try out. When dispensed it has a slight pink tint to it and it has a light scent. It is one of those creams that needs to warm up a bit. There will be a little bit of white cast when first applied but as the cream warms to your skin it absorbs in and the white disappears. As with moisturizers that do this, just put it in your hand and let it warm up a second before applying and there is no white at all. I am rather enjoying this sunscreen.

The Nighttime Line Up

Cleanser: Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash

Essence: Time Revolution The First Essence 5X from Missha (currently 30% off but get an extra 20 % off with code EASTER20 – sitewide sale code)

Makeup Remover: Sunday Riley Vitamin C Makeup Removing Oil Paired with the Makeup Cloths from The Turkish Towel Company (currently on sale on the site) rolling in the Yensa CBD Superfood Dual Cleansing Oil

Serum: The Nue Co Topical C

Facial Oil: Byroe Fig Recovery oil

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre (Sensitive)

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

As usual I won’t cover the items I talked about in the day since they performed as well at night as they did in the day (if they didn’t I would mention it). The last of the Sunday Riley makeup remover was used this week. I think it might have been discontinued. If not, then I would buy it again as it is a really good makeup remover. The bottle is empty and it will be tossed away. I used the Yensa last night for the first time. well first time for this bottle. I’ve used it before. It was interesting. I had one bottle, loved it and then picked up a discounted bottle that I think might have been a little old. The scent was stronger but it worked just as well as before. I think the older the product is the more like CBD oil it smells. It still works, but the scent is stronger. So check your dates. This is a fresh bottle and the scent is barely noticeable. it wasn’t until I applied water to rinse it off that I really got much of a scent at all. It is a great product and I am happy to use it, I just thought you might want to be aware of that.

The topical C powder to add to moisturizers is really nice. It is my favorite Nue Co product. It is one that I will consistently repurchase as it is a great way to add just a little extra Vitamin c to the routine. I tend to use it at night only because too much vitamin c in the day makes me a little sun sensitive. so if that is an issue for you, you might want to watch it. I like that I can add as much or as little as I like.

The Fig recovery oil is almost empty. It has a week, maybe two left of use. It is a nice dry oil that won’t leave your skin feeling greasy. I’m not sure it is better than other oils. I like Byroe as a brand and there are other products I will always repurchase (their Bitter Greens Toning Essence is fantastic) but while I have no problems using this oil again, I don’t think it is one I would seek out. It would be something i would add to my cart if I was shopping on the site, but not the reason I was shopping on the site.

The Others

Alpha H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid – A toner used every other day

Shani Darden Retinol Reform (used Tuesday and Thursday nights)

With these two products I am making certain that I don’t use them on the same days. So I skipped the weekend with the Alpha H just so I wouldn’t use it on the Tuesdays and Thursdays I am using the retinol. while they are working well I am kind of glad that the Retinol Reform is a sample size. I think in my routine i should only use one of these at a time. But the retinol is about half empty (sample size) so I will finish with it and then just be left with the Alpha H.

Both of these products tingle on the skin. The Alpha H more than the Retinol. I would not use either during the day. While the Alpha H was noticeably tingly with the first use, each additional use the tingle becomes less. I don’t know if i am just becoming used to it but on my first use I was somewhat concerned. Then things went well. It is too early to really sea a difference with either but aside from the sugar fueled break outs, my skin feels really good. I’m monitoring it in case it becomes too much, but this far, I am liking both of these products, the Alpha H especially.

And that has been my skin care for the week. I know there were a lot of generalizations for the newer products but as I get the feel of them and they settle in to longer usage I’ll have more specifics on each. And now it is on with Friday. I hope you have a good one.

The Skincare Line Up: April 1st, 2022

Ah yes my darlings, another week of skincare down. And changes are a foot. Several products are on the verge of being empty and will soon be replaced. First we look at my skin as it is the ultimate response to how products are working. Personally I think my skin is looking quite nice this week. I have a few bumps around my lower orbital bone, but I think that a lot of that is more to do with where my face mask presses’ than any skincare products.

my bare skin this week

And this afternoon i will be using my Bl’eau Mask which will bring up the clogs and since I won’t be wearing makeup or facemasks this weekend then my skin will have time to clear out the issues before next week starts up. Other than that, I have no real skin issues this week. Which is always nice to say. we are on the verge of seasonal changing though so in the coming weeks there may be a bit of finding my footing as the temperatures rise. A lot of that will depend on if we have a slow spring that rolls gently into the summer or if the Summer sun shows up early and clobbers spring into submission. Last year we had a long cold spring and then almost no autumn to speak of. Si I guess we will see what we get this year. But weather (and the future) aside, let’s see how this week’s products performed. For many of them, this is tha last time in the Line up this go round although some will be returning.

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: The Nue Co’s The Pill

Toner: Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

All of these products were in use last week (and several week’s prior. Next week will see many of them go away. The Missha Cleanser is almost used up. I think the fact that I used it as a mask as well as a cleanser used up the tube far faster than anticipated. I will definitely order this again and I will use it as a cleanser. when i use it as a mask it won’t be as a traditional face mask but as a cleanser I let sit to sooth the skin. I am actually ordering a new tube soon (they have a massive sale right now 20% off with code HELLO20) just so that I can have it on hand for the summer. That Artemisia is fantastic at soothing sun irritation (as well as other irritations) and I want it on hand.

The 111Skin essence has been great and I have loved not only how it increased the efficacy of the other products I was using but also the high end spa scent it brought to my routine. It was nice and I would certainly use it again. However I think there is only enough product to get through the weekend. Soon a new essence will join the line up. I have enjoyed the 111Skin Essence though.

The Nue Co’s The Pill is one of the few products staying. It is nice. It isn’t my favorite serum. I haven’t noticed anything that makes me think Wow when I use it. I think part of that is because it is an everything serum. There is not one targeted thing that I can see it doing. I’ll keep using it because it is nice, but i am still trying to figure out how i feel about it. The Vitamin C powder from the Nue co is another story, but I’ll get to that in the night time routine.

The Pixi toner is one I like. I’ve used it before and will no doubt use it again. The sample size I have is almost out. So I will use it this week. I plan to roll in the Alpha H Liquid Gold Toner which can only be used every other day so I will probably be using those together in the coming week. This should make the small amount of toner last out the week.

The MZ eye cream has been performing well. There is some reduction in fine lines. I would have expected to see a little more of a result but we are just approaching the thirty day mark (I think, I sort of lost track with the eye cream and will have to check) so it is still a little early to expect massive results. I will keep using it and hope the results increase. I think part of my expectations is that I know how much the cream costs ($159 per jar) and the cost leads me to expect really spectacular results. Especially since I have gotten spectacular results with a $30 eye cream. But as always where skincare is concerned, only time will tell.

And this leads us to the Embryolisse. I love this moisturizer. It has been fantastic. I thought that with the changing seasons it might end up being too heavy, but it hasn’t been. However we are approaching a moment. I have used it for thirty days. Now while I would love to keep using it, I have two other creams from the Lait creme line of Embryolisse so I need to use each of them in turn and compare them. However this moment also makes me happy. I tried the Embryolisse as a pre makeup base and now I am hooked. So while I would like to keep using it as a moisturizer, I am relocating it to my makeup bag and will be using it before applying my makeup while I test out the other moisturizers in this line. For me this is a win win. Having it in my makeup bag means I won’t forget it and can use it each day with my makeup and won’t have to run back to the bathroom to fetch it. So that’s kind of a bonus win for me. I will have the thirty day final post of this up next week with a lot more detail.

But that was my Day time line up. Only three of the products will be back next week. And new ones will be gin their testing. I can’t wait. But for now it is into the night…

The Nighttime Line Up

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha

Makeup Remover: Sunday Riley Vitamin C Makeup Removing Oil Paired with the Makeup Cloths from The Turkish Towel Company (currently on sale on the site)

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: The Nue Co Topical C

Facial Oil: Annmarie Anti-Aging Facial Oil and Byroe Fig Recovery oil

Exfoliating Pads: The Somme Institute Transport Exfoliating pads

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

Okay I won’t go into the repeat products from the morning as they worked the same in the day as they did in the night. I needed a break from the Vike spray. It works well but that scent made me feel like i was in a cloud of vaporized mothballs and I needed a break. So I went to my skincare drawer knowing I have at least two cleansing balms in there. And at the back I found this Sunday Riley Vitamin C makeup remover oil. There is only a little bit left so i decided I would go ahead and just use it up. I used it this week and think that there might be enough left to finish it out this week. It was fantastic. I am a bit fan of the entire Vitamin C line, but I couldn’t find this on their website so i think it may have been dropped. It is a really good makeup remover and I didn’t have to scrub that much a the makeup just melted away.

I am finishing up the second week of trying out the Makeup removal cloths from the Turkish Towel company and am really liking them. I know this sounds strange, but the fact that they have the word Makeup embroidered on the front has kept them from going walk about. Everyone leaves them alone and they don’t get used for other things. which means I can easily rotate through them and not wonder where they got to.

The topical C powder is fantastic in my moisturizer. It just melts in and blends beautifully. I am a huge fan. I am however not a fan of the Somme institute. I think the pads didn’t even make it into today’s photo because I just stopped using them this week. The serum is fine but those cloth pads are a pain. So I stopped using them. I know it is wasteful but i just got so annoyed that i didn’t want to bother. I’ll do a short review detailing my experience and why I’m letting them go but i am passing them on to someone who will hopefully get better use out of them.

And finally there is Laniege. I love the lip mask and will use it until it is gone. Which will take a while as there is a lot of product in the container and you don’t use that much with each application. But it is fabulous. I think that when i do repurchase, i will go with the mini set so that I can switch out scents and flavors. But it is a great product.

And so that is my skincare line up for this week. Over all things went well. there were some misses, but nothing missed badly enough that it cause a break out, so i am calling that good.

The Daily: March 30th, 2022

Guess what I remembered! I remembered to order the Glossy Box Easter Egg. I know that sounds strange, but it has become a minor spring time obsession. For the last three years I have told myself, oh wouldn’t that be a nice Easter treat. Actually now that i think about it, it may be closer to five years now.

My thinking was always that Easter is the one holiday that is done at my house. Thanksgiving and Christmas, we travel. Where we travel depends on the year, but it does mean that during those holidays our house is only a staging area. I am in charge of Thanksgiving pies (mostly because they can be baked ahead, packed in a cooler and driven several hours). then after thanksgiving we look like an off shoot of Santa’s workshop as we gather everything in and figure out what is getting shipped out and what is getting loaded into a car or settled for air flight travel.

Easter is at our house. Which means the deep down company is coming clean, which is a very different cleaning than the normal everyday. Especially these days. Extra supplies are gotten in mostly because we don’t keep a lot of snacks around the house and they will be wanted all weekend. we also don’t keep soda around the house but that too will be in high demand. Cheese boards are planned, charcuterie is arranged. We pickle our own mushrooms and radishes, but load up on other picked goods. I do make a spicy lemony marinade to add to my olives. Nuts are toasted and seasoned and then there is the three to four days of meals including the big Easter Sunday meal. It is an extravaganza.

And it is bigger this year since we skipped the past two years.

And while I will also be assembling Easter baskets, I like to, at the end of it all, have something for myself. You know, besides the martini I settle myself with once company has left and things have been put back into normal working order. There is also something for my babydoll and I to share. This year we ordered an extra little something from igourmet in addition to the Easter themed baskets. Which is lovely and we will shade as we collapse post guest.

However each year I think, wouldn’t the Glossy Box Easter egg be fun. I could have my treat and add another Easter decoration to the house. And then I forget all about it. But not this year! Ha! I remembered. And it only took three post it notes and an alarm on my cell phone.

Somedays, you have to celebrate the little victories. And this week has been one of those weeks where it feels like you are just slogging through waste deep mud. It is Wednesday and I feel like Monday and Tuesday each took twice as long as usual. Some weeks are just like that. So it is nice to celebrate the little victories. Like remembering to order a limited edition before it sells out or knowing that you have a truffle cheese hidden in your butter dish at the back of the fridge that won’t be part of the group feasting.

Today’s look:

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

Bronzer: Too Faced Cocoa Contour palette

Blush: NARS blush in Angelika

Highlighter: Modelco Brightening Shimmer Whip

Powder: bareMinerals Mineral Veil Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Eyeko Double Act Shadow Stick in Dusk and Dawn

Mascara: Blinc Ultravolume Tubing Mascara

Lips: Pixi By Petra Lip Glow in Ruby

Okay I will be honest, Today’s makeup was mostly chosen because i wanted to try out some new products or use products I haven’t reached for in a while. while I am loving testing out the Lorac Illuminating Primer, when I wear it I can’t wear a highlighter. It simply can’t compete with the prime. which is fine, but I wanted to try out the Model Co highlighter. So I went with a favorite. The elf Poreless putty primer. I think this may be the third one i’ve gone through. It is a fantastic formula. If you have dryer skin than mine they do make a hydrating version. It is a little too hydrating for me unless I am wearing a really drying foundation, so I stick with the original. I have no complaints about the original.

The Catrice Foundation I like. It is a really light shade so i am trying to reach for it a bit more before the sun starts giving me a tan. I love the foundation and it is a good product if you are going to be running around all day and need something that stays in place. It is listed as a 24 hr foundation. While I have never pushed it that far I have worn it for ten hours straight with no issues. My one problem with it is the dropper. Mine doesn’t really want to work so I end up pouring product out onto the back of my hand. It can get a little messy so I keep a cloth handy. It is the one drawback of the product, but easy to get over.

I have several Nars products in my drawer and I tend to forget about them. which is kind of funny as for a while I was using a full face of Nars as my go to look. But I don’t find myself reaching for the products much any more. They are good products so I need to remember them. I’m not sure why I over look them now, I think it might be because I have found other products I like just as well if not better. I think it may be more a factor of the world of makeup expanding. I used to have just a few go to brands that I trusted and used, now i use products from a wider range of companies. it was still fun to use this blush.

The Too Faced and the bareMinerals I will always reach for. They are both fantastic and always reliable. I need to take out some of my Too Faced shadow palettes. which Oddly i usually think of in Spring. I think it is because of the color ranges in the shadow palettes I have. Actually I need to test one out to see if I want to use it for Easter or if i want to go full on pastel.

I did not go pastel with the eyes today. I used the Eyeko Double Act dual shadow stick. I really like the formula. I’ll need to play around with it a bit to apply the right amount of product. A little does go a long way. It blends really nicely as well. I have the Dusk and Dawn Shades. Dusk was fantastic and I can see myself reaching for it often. I hoped that Dawn would be a little more brightly copper in color. It worked well, I just found myself wanting more of a contrast. And when I went to get the link from the site for the above list, I say they have the sugar and spice Double Act stick. That looks like it may have the contrast i want. I love the simple eye look and throwing a single shadow stick into a makeup bag instead of an entire palette is a great travel plan, but when I do that I want greater contrast between the two shades. I will continue playing around with this though and see if I really like the formula. If it keeps working out for me i will order the sugar and spice as well as possibly others. Today for a first use, i really liked this.

Before I forget, I also liked the Model Co highlight. It was brighter than I am used to, but it still looked nice. It was a soft glow without the glitter which I appreciate.

I am in love with the new Ultravolume Tubing mascara from Blinc. I knew I liked the length of the regular tubing mascara but this one fills the lashes out making them thicker as well as longer. I am totally in love with it. I do think that I might need to remember to curl my lashes first though. Thee is no curl to the formula and I think that if i remember my curler first I will get even more dramatic results. If you are using an eyelash curler though, remember to curl the lashes before applying mascara. It reduces breakage and pulling.

Finally we have the Pixi By Petra Lip. It was a little more pink than I was expecting. It is supposed to be a sheer wash of color (and I suppose if you sheer out ruby you get pink) I just wasn’t expecting it. However after a minute or two the color faded back a bit and just left my lips with a really nicely moisturizing lip balm. I really like it. And it doesn’t leave a trial of pink lips everywhere. Just a little balm smear on the rim of the cup. Over all for a first use I like it better than my initial impression of it.

I know I chose a bunch of new items because I couldn’t resist. I just wanted to play. sometimes, you need to give into the impulse, and today I did. And i am glad I did. All of the new items performed well for their first time out of the gate and I look forward to putting them through their paces. For now though it is back to work for me. I hope your Wednesday runs smoothly and easily and that you get to coast down the slope of the remaining week.

The Skincare Lineup: March 25th, 2022

Good morning my darlings. It is time for the most fabulous post of the week. Or at least the one I have the most fun with. That’s right, it’s time to talk skincare. And today I have an added bit. I decided that I am going to add in a photo of my bare skin taken first thing on Friday morning so that you can see how my skin actually looks as well as seeing the products I am using and reading my thoughts about them

Feel free to zoom in as close as you care to look, I won’t judge. I did have a bit of a break out on my chin this week. But that was due to me spending an inordinate amount of time with a face mask and of using a clay mask to draw out the buried clogged pores. This week, there were some on my chin. The mask brought them up and I am now clearing them away. So first a picture of my skin and then, we are off to the skincare races. Or at least this week’s line up.

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: The Nue Co’s The Pill

Toner: Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

The Time Revolution Cleanser has been fantastic. I am reaching the end of the thirty days, and the end of the product as well. My full review of it will be up next week and I suspect I may be able to squeak through the week with the remainder of the cleanser, but certainly by the end of next week i will need to choose a new cleanser for the line up. I really enjoyed using this cleanser. It’s mask like texture was fantastic in letting me know exactly where I had cleansed and it rinsed off clean while leaving my skin refreshed. What more could you really want in a cleanser?

I also only have about a week more of the 111Skin Essence. It too has been fantastic. It not only helped the other products work more efficiently, but it’s scent lent my skincare routine a spa like feel. Great product, great high end scent. I would certainly use this essence again.

The Pill from Nue Co is interesting. It is creamier than I am used to serums being and slightly sticky. Since I put a moisturizer over it, I am not as worried about the stickiness as I would normally be. It is early days yet with this serum so I haven’t really seen any effects, but I am hopeful. I love the shape of the bottle and the pump as they seem really well thought out. It is an easy product to pick up and use even if you have wet hands. Hopefully steady use will produce effects.

I can already see some effects with the MZ Skin eye cream. It is a thick eye cream, but I haven’t had any issues with clogging pores. And I really like the way it absorbs without leaving a greasy film.

The real winner this week is the Embryolisse. Wow. It says Multi use on the label and this week I not only used it as my moisturizer but as a pre makeup base. It made such a huge difference. I was blown away. I have one more week for the full thirty day test of this moisturizer, and then I will be rolling in the next in the Lait-creme line to try out and compare with the first. My plan had been to use up this tube at night while starting to test the next one in the day time, but I think I will only do that for a few days before relocating the remainder of the tube to my makeup kit. Applying that extra hit of moisture and letting it soak in a few minutes before moving on with the rest of my makeup really made a difference. It was simply amazing and I am kind of sad that i didn’t try this multi-use function out prior to this. But I will be using it in the future. I will also be picking up a tube simply to keep with my makeup.

The Nighttime Line Up

Cleanser: Time Revolution Artemisia Pack Foam Cleanser from Missha

Makeup Remover: Vike Makeup Melt Paired with the Makeup Cloths from The Turkish Towel Company (currently on sale on the site)

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: The Nue Co Topical C

Facial Oil: Annmarie Anti-Aging Facial Oil

Exfoliating Pads: The Somme Institute Transport Exfoliating pads

Eye Cream: MZ Skin Sooth and Smooth eye cream

Moisturizer: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in berry

As always some of these are repeats, so we will concentrate on the ones I didn’t use in the morning. I had planned to replace the Vike this week, but somehow never got around to it. I have a Huda Beauty cleansing Balm I want to try out so I will be bringing that out this coming week and setting the Vike to the side. It is a great product and so quick and easy to use. The issue is the scent. it is strong and I kind of need a break from it. But it is good.

I continued adding the Vitamin C powder from the Nue C to my moisturizer this week and I really enjoy it. I add it at night because in the day time Vitamin C can leave me a little sun sensitive. I really like having it in the routine though and I am happy I can add it, and add it in the amounts I want, when I choose to do so.

This week I rolled in the Annmarie Facial Oil to replace the Byroe to see how it worked and I loved it. It worked even better than the Byroe, plus it has that great Annmarie Skincare Herbal scent. I adore the skincare products from Annmarie skincare. They are just so fresh and clean. My all time favorite is their Aloe Herb Cleanser. it smells like Lemon Verbena and I always find myself wanting to pick up a bottle when spring arrives. It just seems like the perfect time for it. But alas, this tine bottle of oil is almost out. I have a couple of more days with it and then I will take out a new facial oil. this is one I will return to in a larger format at some point in the future. As I am working through a backlog of oils that i want to use up, it may take a while but this is one of the few oils that made my repurchase list.

I don’t think I will be repurchasing the Somme exfoliating pads. I do like toner and exfoliating pads and the liquid in this one is fine. It actually works well. The problem is with the pads themselves. They are a thin cotton material that because it is so saturated tend to stick together. Separating them often tears the pad and gets the serum everywhere. I often feel like I’ve exfoliated my hands more than I have my face. and it really is the material of the pads. Getting just one out of the container is difficult. I will keep using them as I like the serum, but I don’t think this is going to be a repeat purchase for me.

It was kind of the hiccup in my week of skin care. Otherwise everything went swimmingly. Next week there will be a new facial oil and new makeup remover. The cleanser and the essence may make it through the week, but I know the cleanser won’t make it beyond. Using it as a day and night time cleanser along with an occasional masking experience used up the tube fast. I don’t mind as it was a fantastic product to use, but I will soon need to find a replacement. As always I will be easing new products in one at a time instead of all at the same time. I find it the best way to keep my skin from freaking out over new products.

So that was me this week. I hope you had as much fun talking about skincare as I did.
