The Daily: June 14th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. It is another hot one today and to be completely honest, I am feeling a bit lethargic. I woke up all right this morning, but then I started my day by walking outside and making sure the plants were watered before the sun was high enough to cause all of the moisture to evaporate. It was already hot and after coming in from the heat, i just didn’t feel like doing much.

Don’t get me wrong, I still had a lot to do, I just wanted to get it done nice and slowly. So there was no yoga or exercise of any sort today. I’m going to try to convince myself that late afternoon yoga is the thing but I’m not sure how successful I will be. I think part of it is that to keep the temps in the house down, I’ve closed the blinds on the sunny side of the house and pulled the curtains so half of the house is shadowed. As the sun moves overhead i’ll switch it up and open the closed blinds and close the currently open ones. That way the house gets sunlight but doesn’t overheat and force the systems to work harder than they need to.

It does make the house feel as though it is late evening and that i ought to just call it a day though. But as it looks like this is going to be par for course this summer, I need to work through the feeling. I still think today is mostly a desk day.

And since I am working on my own today with no calls of meetings, I decided to test the loose metallic shadow from Lottie London. I figured a day where it didn’t matter if i looked like I was in a fight with Tinkerbelle would be the best time to test it out. But I am jumping ahead of myself.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Lava Water Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Gold Rush Blush

Powder: Tatcha The Silk Powder

Eyeshadow: KVD Vegan Beauty single shadow paired with the Lottie London Loose Metallic Shadow in Golden Hour

Brows: Marcelle Nano Eyebrow Liner in Medium Brown

Mascara: ABH Lash Brag Mascara

Lips: TYS Beauty Lip Plumper

Okay the first thing that you may notice is that this list looks nearly identical to yesterday’s list. The reason is the primer. I wanted to compare the liquid silk canvas primer from Tatcha to their balm silk canvas primer so I went with the exact same face products as yesterday. It’s also why yesterday I chose face products I really like to use. I figured it would be easier to use two days in a row if I liked them.

So today I used my sample of the Liquid silk Canvas Primer from Tatcha. The original is one of my favorites so I was curious as to how it differed. It was really interesting actually. The liquid silk has a more liquid consistency than the solid balm as one would expect, but it is the same color. The fragrance is the same but it is slightly lighter so if scents bother you, that might be an element in the plus column. The liquid smoothed on well and blended in easily. It melted into the skin in much the same fashion as the original. It did need a moment longer to dry down and settle in before applying my foundation. It was also slightly stickier, so if you are looking for something to grip your makeup a little more securely, this again might be something to look into. While I think of the original as pore filling and blurring, this one I think might add more of a makeup gripping quality to it. the sample packet I have that came with my last order only had enough for one application. I might have been able to stretch it to two, but it is a foil packet so things can dry out and change. Given the one use, I think I would want to at least try a travel size of this primer. I really enjoyed this one use and would like to try it for a longer time. I don’t know if it will ever replace the original in my affections, but I am willing to give it a fair go.

I did use the last of the Tatcha powder sample today as well and I know that I am picking that up soon. It was a really good powder that didn’t look powdery and felt amazing on.

With everything else the same as before, it is now all about the eyeshadow. I used the reddish KVD single shadow as a base of color and then topped it with the gold to see how the gold works. when I used the brush I had flecks fall out and brushing them away just caused little gold streaks. So I applied with my finger. This worked well for application, but I think my finger was a little too large. I think tomorrow I may try a damp cotton swab instead. The bristles, whether dry or damp just scatter too much, I think something solid like a cotton swab would do better. So I’ll see tomorrow. Aside from the brush fall out, the pigment is doing a really good job staying where I put it. Thus far there isn’t any afternoon fall out. I’ll be double checking when i wash my face for bedtime tonight, but if it isn’t dribbling down my nose later, then I may try it out again tomorrow with the cotton swab (I have one meeting so if it dribbles I’ll wait until Thursday to try it.) Thus far, this loose pigment is impressive. I really like the shade so I hope it stays that way.

As for me, lethargy may have stopped the workout, but paperwork waits for no one. And so it is back to work for me. Have a great afternoon everyone. And stay hydrated.

Good afternoon my darlings. it is a hot one today. And I don’t mean summer is actually arriving. This year it seems we have skipped the early part of the summer and just umped headlong into the brutality of late summer. Each morning when I wake up I look at the weather. At this time of year it is kind of important for the garden. There always comes a point in the summer where i need to switch from watering just at sundown, to watering at sundown and then first thing in the morning before the sun really gets going so the plants can absorb the water before it evaporates.

Usually that point arrives mid July. This year, I had to water this morning. This is the earliest I have ever had to do a morning watering in the summertime since we’ve lived here. It was already eighty degrees at 7 am and the exclamation point near the weather report promised the heat index would be in the triple digits. Checking my garden records for last year we hit triple digits for the first time July 8th last year. I got up a little early today so that I could walk before the heat hit, but ended up using that extra time to water so there will be no walking today, just indoor workouts.

Which is fine. Not what I planned but fine. I am well stocked with indoor fitness gear so I should be able to keep moving forward on my fitness journey. I just won’t be doing it outside. I’m just sort of amazed that the first heat wave hit this early in the summer. I imagine it is going to lead to a longer and more violent hurricane season further south this year. (I spent quite a few years living in Louisiana and hurricane season sort of sticks with you even when you leave). For now I think it is going to be a balancing act keeping my vegetables and tender herbs from scorching in the sun. We are about to get our first paprika peppers for drying and I have a spate of carrots just now rising. This year I planted a variety called Parisian and they grow into small round carrots. I’m kind of excited about them. So right now it is one eye on the heat index and another on the garden. And fingers crossed that I can keep everything from shriveling up in the sun.

Today’s Look:

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Gold Rush Blush

Powder: Tatcha The Silk Powder

Eyeshadow: Lime Crime Prelude Exposed Eyeshadow Palette

Brows: Marcelle Nano Eyebrow Liner in Medium Brown

Lips: TYS Beauty Lip Plumper

I’m actually quite pleased with the way things turned out today. While the Tatcha silk primer is one of my absolute favorite primers (and I noticed I am starting to hit pan in the center of it today which means a reorder is in sight) I chose it specifically because I wanted to try the sample of the Liquid Silk Canvas I received with my last Tatcha order (I am loving the Kissu Mask, btw). I thought I would try the original and then tomorrow open up the sample. That way I can do a close compare. Plus since I will need to reorder primer soon from Tatcha I can see if I want to go with my favorite or try the liquid. I think that one may be offered in the Travel sized products to try out so I may do that instead of the full sized one right off the bat. Of course that is if i like it in the first place. Which I won’t know until I try it out tomorrow. But I used the original today and loved it like I always do. It works well and the scent just makes me feel special too.

What can I say, I am a scent oriented person.

The Pretty Vulgar is also working well. The amount of product is low in the bottle and this is the perfect time of year for this shade so it will be in rotation often in the next few months.

The Trestique is one of my go to products and I will always reach for it if I don’t have something else in mind. I do need to set it to the side and rotate through my bronzers, if only to adjust the location so my summer wear ones are closer to the front of the drawer.

You know I love the Benefit Gold Rush. It too is starting to show pan. I am always surprised when this happens as the Benefit blushes last forever. But Benefit just released new blushes so maybe it is time to try a new shade or two. this one will be hard to beat though. It is just the right tone for me and I really enjoy it. However nothing lasts forever so new things must be tried.

Speaking of new things I am still using the sample of the Tatcha powder that came in with my last order. It is fantastic. Very fine milled and silk soft on the skin. And it doesn’t look powdery. while I love loose powder I have several loose powders to get through at the moment. I am limited on the pressed powder though and really wish this came in a pressed format as it would be amazing to have a compact in my purse at this time of year. With this heat a reliable compact is essential for not sweating through the makeup. I don’t care what products you are using, ten minutes outside and when you reach your location you need to stop by the ladies with a quick pat down with the compact. This powder would be good for that, but alas it is only sold loose.

I love this Lime Crime Palette and I think I am definitely getting the Immortals one. I was debating it, but their shadows are just such a good formula. I just have to do a shadow declutter first. Once I make some space, the new palette will be mine. And since Lime Crime has lowered their prices, it will be mine for less.

The ABH mascara worked fantastically well as always. I enjoy it more with each use and will be picking it up again. I just have to work through my mascara stock pile first. That’s another thing i need to take inventory of soon.

I am the first to admit that I forget about brows a lot. It’s the bangs. Most of the time they cover my eyebrows so I don’t worry. But I do have several brow products and i am going to be rotating through them to see which ones I am keeping, which ones I am letting go of and which ones I want to order again. This Marcelle is a keeper and a reordering product. I love the fine point and the fact that the product is soft enough to apply without warming up but not too soft so it doesn’t smear everywhere like a warm crayon. It is a very good brow product and I love both the shade and the fine point.

And then there is the lips. I had not tried TYS Beauty before but this was in my May bag from IPSY. I do love lip plumpers so I thought i’d give it a go. This is a nice gloss, not too sticky. It smells very peppermint-y and for the first 20 minutes it is very tingly. There is also an almost holographic sheen to it which I like. For as intense as the stinging is, there is only mild lip plumping. Given the intensity of the sting I thought for sure there would be massive results. There aren’t but it is a nice basic lip plumper and a good gloss. I will continue using it, but I might not reorder it. I am glad to hear about a new brand though, so that is nice.

And that was me today. Overall I am very pleased with how things turned out.

Admittedly with the heat set to melt skin off my bones and no video calls scheduled today it is just you and me that get to see it, but I’m okay with that. But now it is back to work for me. I hope your Monday glides through with no complications. And remember, if you go outside, drink lots of water.

Creatives to Promote Hint Still

The Daily: June 7th, 2022

This morning started off with a thunderstorm. The thunder lightning and drenching rain caused me to snuggle into bed and hit my snooze alarm as many times as I felt I could get away with. let’s face it, I don’t like mornings in general and knowing that I didn’t have a hope of getting a walk in today just made that snooze alarm too tempting to resist.

When i did get up I discovered that in the night wind played havoc with both the garden and the lawn furniture. So I went chasing chairs and re-staking tomatoes. The Cucumber vines were like one of those inflatable men balloons outside of car dealerships, but they too were corralled.

I also managed to accidentally scare several rabbits and felines out of their rain shelters. I moved the chair, they realized their shelter was gone and ran for the hills. I didn’t see them until them moved and almost had a heart attack as they streaked past me.

Which meant I was well awake before my morning coffee.

I suppose that is the karmic balance for the snooze alarm.

I will say the rain hasn’t stopped even if the wind had died back and the thunder and lightning moved on. The rain has settled into stay. If the weather reports are rught then it is here to stay for a few days. It is making me feel very sleep and like I want to just find somewhere cozy to curl up with a good book rather than work, but as I am behind on a few deadlines due to may’s upheavals I can’t afford to just walk away for the day. No matter how much I just want to call it a rain day.

Sometimes being an adult is just not fun at all.

my hair got a dousing with the rain this morning and any attempt at volume has gone out the window. Apparently it only liked uncontrolled volume when the humidity hangs in the air instead of falling from the sky

Today’s Look:

Primer: Rodial Glass Primer

Foundation: Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Lava Water Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Cosmetics Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Tatcha The silk Powder

Eyeshadow: Iconic London Sunset to Sunrise Palette

Mascara: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag

Lips: Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick

One thing I love about this time of year is that I get to switch up my makeup. Yes I know the illamasqua and the buxom are year round products that I absolutely love and will reach for regardless, but I meant foundation. I get to shift my winter shade foundations to the side and pull out my spring to summer ones. It is always a delight. (Mostly because if a foundation doesn’t work for me I get rid of it fairly quickly so someone else can use it, so all the foundations I keep I really like) This Pretty Vulgar foundation is just beautiful. And right now the shade I have is exactly the right shade for me. It blends so beautifully with my skin tone and it lasts all day long with no issues. It also feels weightless. Its at this time of year where I feel like I am discovering old favorites anew.

This is one of the few true foundations that i will wear during the summer. I tend to shift into more tinted moisturizer bb cream sort of products for the summer. However this one is light enough that when I do need an actual foundation in the summer, I will reach for this one. The bottle is about half empty at this point so I suspect it will be finished out before the summer’s end. Which means I will be repurchasing. I’ll need to decide if i want to pick my summer shade or get both the summer and fall shades of this when I do. I think of it as a summer foundation because that is the shade i have and because it works so well in the summer, but since I am repurchasing I may get a winter shade as well this year. I managed to clear out several of my winter shades this year as well so there is space and I really do like this formula. The pretty bottle doesn’t hurt of course.

With the Rodial Primer, I think I have reached the conclusion that I do like the way it performs. I like the way it feels on the skin. I like the way it looks and the fact that it doesn’t clog my pores. It really is just a matter of scent. That menthol scent is strong and I do not care for it. It is however a great primer.

The Buxom Bronzer I really like as it is buildable. I can go light with it now and as the summer progresses deepen it so that I don’t need a different shade. It is a nice bronzer in general. Of course when I went to their site to look at the links for this post I saw they have what looked like a new line of plumping matte liquid lipsticks. I will be delving in deeper. You know I love my mattes, I love my liquid lippies and lets face it, I kinda dig the plumping. The trick is the drying factor with matte liquid lips. So I’ll need to hold back, get one or two shades for testing and then decide if I like them. But as I generally love Buxom’s lip formula, I have high hopes.

Today’s lipstick was from Wet ‘n Wild. I like their megalast line as the color rally lasts on it and they are comfortable to wear. if you blot after application the lip prints aren’t too bad. Towards the end of the day my lips do get a little dry but a quick hit of lip balm covers it and all is good.

The more I use the ABH Lash Brag Mascara, the more I like it. it does tend to flake after about eight hours of wear, but until then it looks fantastic. Each time I use it, it seems to get better.

On the other time, I am finding I want to reach for this Iconic palette less and less. This morning I had to talk myself out of reaching for my Lime Crime Palette. (Incidentally Lime Crime has just lowered their prices permanently. It isn’t a sale. I so want their Venus Immortals Eyeshadow Palette. I am trying to hold off until I do a palette declutter but I know soon, this palette will be mine. I just need to make space first – which is actually a good incentive for decluttering.

But I am finishing up the trial of the Iconic palette so I took it out instead. The shadow formula is nice. They are nicely pigmented and blend well. It is really the shadow colors that I’m having issues with. The shimmers are many and varied and they all look nice and work well. I really only like two or three mattes in the palette. some of the colors I don’t like, others just don’t work for me and my skin tone. It is a palette where I will reach for it for a couple of specific shadows and that’s it. So great formula, bad color choice.

And finally I am still using the powder sample from Tatcha and I probably will be for the rest of the week. There is a surprising amount of powder in this sample. It looked like it would just be a day or two but this is day two and there is still plenty. With the way the sample is set up I can’t put it in a drawer to use later so i do need to use it up. Which is not a hardship. This powder is super fine, little is needed, it feels soft, makes my skin took great and doesn’t look powdery. This is one of the best powders I’ve tried in a while. I have several good face powders but this is a fabulous one.

And that is my look for the day. It is raining outside so walking gave way to Yoga and I am fighting my own desire to take the day off in an effort to get some work done. Rainy days just call for curling up with a good book. Given the front moving in, the rain is likely to last the week. If it hangs around until Saturday, I suspect that is going to feature as part of my weekend plan. For now, it is full steam ahead into the land of e-mails and paperwork. Wish me luck!

The Daily: November 30th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. The sun is shining brightly and it tempted me out into a long walk this morning. Unfortunately the wind was bitter and slashed like knives. My throat and lungs feel a bit on the raw side because of it. I was planning on a second walk later this afternoon, but i think that now, a session with my weights in doors may be a better idea.

I think that the indoor workouts in the sunroom may become a bit more frequent from here on out. Or at least until we get through the windy season. The cold I can deal with, but that wind. It just causes things inside to ache. But I am well stocked up on indoor workout gear so it should be fine. Most of my stuff comes from ProsourceFit. I’ve always found their products to be top quality. Currently they have a 60% off sale for cyber week so if you are looking to add to your personal collection this is a pretty good time. I love their yoga mats, but the big winner for me are the leg weights. Not only are they great when doing actual workouts, but they are fantastic for at the desk work outs.

when I am trying to think of the right wording for a tricky e-mail, I will occasionally put them on my ankles, push back from the desk and do seated leg lifts in my chair while my brain thinks up the right words.

All right, I admit, sometimes it devolves into chair dancing. Luckily there is no one in the office to see it. And I’m certain it burns some calories even if it probably doesn’t work out the intended muscle groups. And if I am going full confession, sometimes I shift them to my arms and do a little arm waving dance to whatever song is stuck in my head. Oddly enough yesterday it was the Kung foo Fighting Song. No clue why that popped into my brain.

Just don’t tell anyone, okay?

Today’s Look:

Primer: Fig and Rouge blurring primer

Foundation KVD Vegan Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Primer infused Bronzer

Blush: Rodial Blush Drops

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Chella Manifest Bronze Quad

Mascara: Pretty Vulgar The Feathers Mascara

Lips: Mischo Beauty Lip Gloss in Madam

Setting Spray: Peach and Lily Glass Skin Veil Mist

As I am still testing out a lot of new products, some of these are the same as yesterday. The tart mascara from yesterday reached the end of it’s life and has been sent off to the land of fallen mascaras. Today I picked out the Pretty Vulgar mascara from my selection of open products and sadly found that this is it’s last day as well. There is almost no product left. I believe I have a second unopened one in the unopened product drawer which I will be taking out soon, if I have it. This is one of my favorite mascaras. It does really well lengthening the lashes and the curve of the wand does really well in shaping the lashes I really like how my lashes look with this mascara. The effect isn’t as great today as there was very little product left. Empty or not it is a pretty enough container that I actually want to keep it around for display purposes. To be honest I probably will keep it around until I open up a new one and put that one out to look at. It is just such a pretty looking mascara. I know, packaging isn’t everything. But since this is pretty packaging with a fantastic product, I’m okay with ogling the pretty packaging.

In keeping with the makeup recently received in subscription boxes theme I seem to have going on this week, I used the Chella eyeshadow quad today. It came in a Glossy box this month. It looks oddly almost identical to the quad I used yesterday. On the eyes the brown has more of a reddish tone though and it is not as patchy to apply. I actually applied it using the exact same colors in the exact same places that I did yesterday. The look is slightly different. To be honest, I don’t find it much more appealing than yesterday’s quad. While it is less patchy, it isn’t all that pigmented and to be honest I have these shades in better formulas elsewhere. The thing that might save this is travel. I am not certain if I have these shades in a smaller travel palette. I know I have them in larger ones. Once I finish testing them I will compare and investigate the drawer. While larger palettes have much more variation and I may keep them for one color, I will only keep quads like this if I don’t have the shades in a travel palette. That will determine if this stays or is passed on more than anything else at the moment, at least with the small shadow quads.

I’m trying not to keep what I am not going to use. Its one of my goals in the new year so I am trying to get a jump on it. there may be an end of December quick declutter just so I can start fresh in January.

The final change today in the line up was with the lips. I just could not face another day of the rose flavored lip oil. Since it is a lip product with a want that I have used, I can’t pass it on to anyone so I may use it as something pretty on the dressing table, until I run out of space and let it go. I don’t think I am going to be wearing it again. I just hated the taste.

By contrast the Mischo lip gloss has almost no taste and almost no scent. It provides a very light wash of color. I know i used the lip gloss at least once before but I didn’t remember how it performed. And I know it came in an IPSY a while ago. so I decided it counted as subscription box makeup. The light color is nice. The formula is a little waxy and like any lip gloss it leaves lip prints and wears off fairly quickly. While it is nice, I think it is something that I will use and then discard without feeling the need to replace or purchase additional colors. If future products come in subscription boxes then I will use them, but I won’t purchase it on my own. After the rose oil yesterday though, I am inclined to look on it more fondly then I might otherwise.

I’m still getting to grips with the new products in the line up and as I use them more, I’ll report back, but those were the changes made today and how I feel about them. I am sad to see my Pretty Vulgar mascara run out and the eyeshadow and lipstick weren’t my favorite, but I think I am starting to get the hang of the liquid blush at least. So that is something. It isn’t a spectacular look, but it will do for working at the desk today. And now it is back to work for me. I hope the rest of your Tuesday is fabulously productive.

Or at least fabulous.

The Daily: November 8th, 2021

Oh my darlings this weekend was an interesting one. It has now reached a cold enough temperature that the frost has killed off the last of our plants. I know, it sounds strange to say, but last weekend, we wicked the last of the paprika peppers. We now have fabulous paprika for the upcoming winter, but last weekend was the last of their growth cycle. They were the last garden hold out. We have them in a side garden that gets full sun all day long. However most of that bed is taken up with a tangle of bind weed and greek oregano. I harvested as much oregano as possible and now with the peppers finally done, we spent this weekend going crazy with the pitchfork. At this point the bindweed is so thick a matt of roots that even though we dug up as much as we could we are still going to have to bury them.

Once the plants were out, cardboard was spread to smoother and a thick layer of much was added to the top of the cardboard. The mulch will rot over the winter, as will the cardboard and we will put fresh dirt over it come spring and start planting from there. Hopefully it will help. So I spent Saturday with a pitchfork. And then Saturday afternoon I ended up getting my Vaccine Booster shot. I wanted to be all topped up before thanksgiving travel.

I don’t know if it was the extra garden work or the booster shot, but I was just an achy mass of pains on Sunday. I suspect the gardening was actually to blame. Regardless of the cause, Sunday I was a couch potato. I went on to Paramount + and finished the last available season of Why Women Kill. Then I watched all of Evil and for good measure topped it off with Ghosts. I highly recommend all three shows. For different reasons obviously. But they are all good. Ghosts is a bit predictable, but still funny.

Today we are back to normal with walks and using more of my legs than my arms for exercise. I know, I need to work my upper body more, but this week, my upper body is mostly just recovering.

Today’s Look: Primer: Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Serum Foundation

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer

Blush No 7 Damson Mist blush

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: N0 7 Pink Blossom Trio

Mascara: Pretty Vulgar The Feathers Mascara

Lips: Perricone MD No Makeup Makeup Lipstick

Today in case you missed the trend was a No 7 kind of day. It was sort of an accident. I love the No 7 Foundation and the pressed powder. Both are staples of my routine. But to be honest I usually use more skincare from No 7 then makeup. However when I got the vaccine booster I did so in a Walgreens. I hadn’t been in a Walgreens for a while and after my shot i had to walk around for 15 minutes to make certain there were no side effects. So I shopped. I ended up picking up the eyeshadow and blush.

Partially I did so because I hadn’t tried them before and was curious. The eyeshadow I actually picked up with travel in mind. These three colors are ones I use quite often and I thought that if they worked well then I might just use it for thanksgiving travel. It is small and easy to slip into the bag. This is my first experience with No 7 Shadows.

This trio isn’t highly pigmented, the darker shade is more of a smoke than I expected. There is almost no fall out though so I could start with primer and foundation and work my way out, which is kind of my preferred method of application. I sometimes will do eyes first, but I really don’t like to. There is no real reason it is just habit. and years of applying primer and foundation first. With this shadow that wasn’t an issue. Thus far it is wearing well and I think I am going to play around with it. It will be interesting to see how I like playing with a three pan palette. And how it feel about it as the week progresses. Right now I am pretty pleased with it. As the pans were relatively inexpensive, if I still like to at the end of the trial, I may be popping back to Walgreens for other shades.

Everything else on the list today is something I’ve used before and loved. This particular Perricone MD lipstick is new, but I it is a repurchase item rather than a new to me one. I’ve had this product before (in many shades) and will always repurchase it. The only thing you have to watch is the expiration date on these. The lip product is fabulous, but when it says it is expired, then it is pretty much expired. The expiration date is printed in big bold hard to miss numbers on the bottom of the tube. You may have to work to find the shade, but you can always find that expiration code.

Which is a good thing.

Although the lipstick comes in a heavy duty tube with a cap that screws into place, because of the date, I wouldn’t keep it in my purse. Lip products in my purse tend to be forgotten. While this does travel really well and makes my lips feel soft and hydrated as well as offering a slight tint, I can’t keep it in the purse. But it is a product I enjoy and will continually repurchase. And to be honest, I’ve never had a problem using it up before it expires. It is only when I forget I have it that there is a problem. After the expiration date you can get a coating of white mold on it. Once you see that, do not use. But it is a fantastic product for a low makeup day.

The Daily: November 2nd, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. The temps are down, the sky is cloudy, but thus far no rain so I am throwing on a sweatshirt and walking. I got in one chilly walk this morning and plan another later this afternoon. This is the time of year where lip balm is never too far away from me. I have one on my desk and one in my pocket. The trick this time of year is to remember to take it out of my pocket before I do my laundry.

I lose more lip balms to the wash than any other way.

After about a month I’ll have it drilled into my brain that I need to remember to check the pockets. It’s just November that is a bit dicey. So I am using a combination of my least favorite lip balms and the lip balms that are already mostly used up as my pocket balms right now. That way it feels a bit like less of a loss if I forget.

This month is all about not forgetting things it seems. I thought I had most of my holiday shopping done and then I found there were a couple people I didn’t have as covered as I thought. Well, technically that isn’t entirely true. My babydoll said he had an idea and so I marked them off my list thinking he would take care of them and now it turns out his idea fell through. So they are back on my list. It’s not a big deal, actually. I was just feeling kind of pumped for working through most of my list before Black Friday rolled around.

I know that sounds strange, but I tend to purchase certain gifts early so there will be something mail out and then I tend to follow up with smaller things purchased later during the black Friday/cyber Monday sales. Those packages get mailed out later. It is kind of me hedging my bets with the post office. So everyone has one definite thing to open on Christmas , even if there is a delay.

It is a consequence of spending most of my life moving around the country. Not only do I have friends and family all over the place, but i am often far away at the Holidays. It is a strange system, but one I’ve developed over the years. But it does mean that this is now a week of shopping for me. The first packages need to be mailed out by the time I travel down to my mother’s at Thanksgiving this year. With the way the post office has been running I don’t want to take any chances.

Today’s look:

Primer: Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Primer

Foundation: Ciate London Extraordinary Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique stick Bronzer

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Eyeshadow: KVD Vegan Beauty Single Eyeshadow (Lolita)

Mascara: Pretty Vulgar The Feathers Mascara

Lipstick: MAC in Bated Breath

Necklace: Rachel Zoe Collection

Today I went super simple. I have work at my desk, my two walks and a quick run out to a local store so I didn’t want to take a lot of time. I haven’t used the banana bright primer in a while. I really like the way it gives a soft glow to the skin underneath the foundation. Actually because of it, I decided not to bother with highlighter today.

The Ciate Foundation is one of my favorite easy breezy foundations. I’m rotating it in and out right now because I want to see how long this tone suites me and if I will have to get a different shade for the winter. I use this foundation enough that I will actually keep two shades around if I need to. Thus far, this one shade is still working. While I will purchase a second shade, I would be thrilled to have only one that I need to keep year round.

The Trestique is kind of my in a hurry and I know it will look good bronzer. I reach for it a lot. I think I reach for it a lot more now because I know that this is the last of the non-refillable versions. Once I use this one up I will be picking up the refillable one so that I have less waste. I won’t waste the one i have but I like the thought that a refillable version is in my future.

The bareMinerals blush. How many more ways can I say that I love this formula? I apply it with my fingertip rather than with a brush, because it just works better that way. It blends in well and stays on all day. I really like the formual and will continue rotating it in.

Today I wanted a quick eye look (plus I am trying to remember to grab my single shadows more. This is the KVD shadow for a one and done look. I really like the color and the shadow is a great formual. The feathers mascara and Mac lip are also long time favorites.

What can I say, when time is short, I reach for the favorites that work well with no fuss. And really, these are products that simply work without a lot of fiddling about. Somedays, that is what you need. Today was that sort of day.

The Daily: October 27th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. Today we are playing a lovely game. It’s called posting between outages. Yes, its a fun one. Actually I can’t complain too much. This time it isn’t weather related. AT&T is moving around the neighborhood today, and possibly for the rest of the week. And what are they doing?

Internet upgrades.

I’m sure it is more technical than that, but essentially they realized that more and more people are working from home, the system was not built for people working from home and they are attempting to upgrade the system to support the people working from home.

So while I wasn’t all that thrilled by the message saying that rolling outages were possible (or that we had a rather large block of one earlier today), I will be happy with the results as it will mean (hopefully) that my internet will go out less frequently in the future.

Its a kind of old neighborhood so the upgrades were sort of needed before the mass work from home influx.

So I’m going to jump into the makeup before another potential loss to service occurs. (which means I just heard the trucks rumbling onto my street).

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer

  • palette madness still going on 50% off

Foundation: Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

Blush: Georgia from Benefit Cosmetics

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Mascara: Tarte Light Camera Lashes

Eyeshadow: KVD shadow in Lolita

Lips: Wet ‘n Wild Megalast lipstick in Cinnamon Spice topped with Tarte Maneater Plumping Gloss in Buff

I’ll be honest today was mostly about trying out the benefit blush with a full on foundation. I really like the Pretty Vulgar foundation. I haven’t worn it in a while as it is too light for summer and well, this summer I tended to stick to tinted moisturizers and BB creams. I do the same every summer. I think I did it more this summer though as I was not really going anywhere I planned to dress up for. And any vent I attended was outdoors so it was just easier.

But now this shade is starting to be wearable again for me, although still on the lighter side. It is a really good formula and one I will actually need to repurchase relatively soon. I think this might last through this winter but it will be used up before spring. Then I will probably hold off repurchasing it until next fall. Since odds are I won’t wear it in the summer. But I like it for when I wear actual foundation. It is a medium coverage foundation. I almost never go full coverage on mu foundation. Medium tends to be my comfort zone.

I specifically chose it to use the blush. I definitely think that the blush is not suitable for the foundation. This is a natural look blush that really needs to be paired with a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer. I just sort of needed to confirm it for myself. Perhaps if I had a paler skin tone, then it would work with foundation, but for me, this is a natural look blush that goes better with BB cream and Tinted moisturizers.

And now I know

Everything else is a standard favorite. You know I love the Trestique bronzing stick. I love that the newer ones are refillable as I am always looking to reduce my waste. No 7 powder is always a staple in my makeup bag and I really like the KVD Shadow for a one and done look. I may have had to work for a bit with the blush but everything else was easy peasy.

The Daily: October 12th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. Today is a hazy but not too bad day. Humidity is high but temps are low. Oddly enough I think the humidity helped my walks today. I know that sounds strange but after the park floods and then dries out there is an abundance of mold and what not in the air and dried to dust on the walking path itself. With each step the dried stuff is crunched under foot and released into the air. I think that was what made yesterday such a puffy eyed misery. Today there is actually enough humidity in the air to kind of weigh down the dust.

A quick rain that doesn’t cause flooding will wash it all away, but for now the humidity is helping. I never really thought humidity would be my friend. It makes me feel a little guilty for all my summer time complaints.

Only a little bit though.

I did manage to get my walk in today without sneezing and sniffling my way through it, which was a nice bonus. I had one eye looking at the sky though as those clouds look like they want to rain, despite the weatherman’s assurances that we have a couple of non-rainy days on the way.

they’ve lied before.

Except for the walk though, I am keeping pretty close to the desk today. I have my regular work, but there is also a lot of work that needs to get done before the new year. I know that sounds strange to say, but I have a kind of big expansion planned for my writing site, Ten ’til Midnight, in January so I’m trying to get all of my ducks in a row for that before the craziness of the holiday’s descend. I’m sure there will be more about that as we get closer as the prep work is taking up more of my mental space.

Have you ever noticed that about big projects? Once they are actually in motion it is much more manageable than in the few months before. I know part of that is working out all of the logistics so that the actual implementation can roll out smoothly and part of the crazy is planning for possible issues that might or might not arise, but even though it is a lot of work once it gets started, I always breathe a heavy sigh of relieve after the launch.

But there are a host of things to get through before that particular relief can be felt. For now it is a lot of planning and organization.

Today’s look:

Primer: Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer

Foundation: Wet ‘n Wild Tinted Hydrator

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush: Billion Dollar Beauty Blush in Amour

Highlighter: Billion Dollar Beauty in Mystic

Brows: Billion Dollar Brows Pomade in Taupe

Eyes: Billion Dollar Beauty Eyeshadows

Lips: bareMinerals Mineralist lip gloss in Sincerity

Mascara: Pretty Vulgar The Feathers

The primer, as you know is one I am trying to use up because it is discontinued. I love it, but I need to clear it out. while I am sure I will end up trading it out, I do want to concentrate on using it up so it will be hanging around for a bit.

The wet ‘n Wild Tinted hydrator is a product I love. The tube is shorter than most of my other products so it often gets over looked, but it is super comfortable to wear and it blends in well. i always start to apply it and think wow this is way too light, then it just blends beautifully. I also love the fact that both hyaluronic acid and squalane are mixed into the formula. I don’t know the concentration or if it actually does anything within the formula but my skin really likes both of these things when I use them in skincare so I am not adverse to potentially having them here. Plus this formula just feels really good to wear.

I love the trestique bronzer and will us it until it is gone and then repurchase the now refillable version. As this is my third Trestique Bronzing stick I have no doubts that it will be a refillable product that I will in fact refill. The bareMinerals lippie and the Pretty Vulgar mascara are also favorites. They are fabulous and will be used until finished and then repurchased.

Pretty much everything else came from my Billion Dollar Beauty Box today. You can pick up these set boxes from Billion Dollar Beauty or simply build your own. They sent one of them to me and i liked it enough that I ended up adding a couple of eyeshadows to it. The blush is a light buildable formula that works really well, especially if you are going with a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream. It is easy to just cause a light bush or build to something more intense. The highlighter too can go from subtle to stunning very easily. I think I find it more impressive today than usual because I have been using the Beauty Bakerie Palette as I test it out. That one tends to loose its color and just leave trails of glitter behind. This one from Billion dollar Beauty, retains its sheen no matter how much you sheer it out and there is no glitter trail.

And while I don’t care for their powdered brow product, their brow pomade is rapidly becoming my go to product for brows.

Over all it was a quick and easy look that works well for me. I know it is still a pretty basic office look, but lets fact it, I spend a lot of time in an office environment. I appreciate the spectacular looks and occasionally try to replicate them, but but good everyday work looks are kind of my zone.

I’m okay with that.

But for now it is back to work for me. I have to admit, even with the increased work load, I am rather enjoying the planning. It has actually brought several of my office organizational issues to light though so I may have to do a desk renovation or remodel before the new year hits. Sometimes an ounce of planning and organization can stave off major catastrophes. At least that’s my plan.

The Daily: September 30th, 2021

I have to admit, the weather is just about perfect today. Staying inside is really hard to do so I’ve done very little of it. I woke up this morning and had my coffee on the back porch. It was nice being able to sit down with a hot beverage and not sweat profusely while trying to drink it. while our back porch can be used pretty much from now until spring (with maybe a few weeks mid-winter where it is too cold) In the summer time it is not a space where anyone wants to linger. It is positioned so that for most of the day the sun falls directly onto it. While it does make it usable throughout much of the year because it traps the heat, in the summer it just makes you feel like you are an ant and there is a very naughty little boy with a giant magnifying glass over you. The afternoons are still too warm to spend much time out there, but the mornings are fantastic.

Then of course there was a much longer walk than usual, and yes there will be another much longer walk than usual later this afternoon. It is just too nice to be inside. Plus after the rainy no walk days it is nice to get in a little more exercise. Hopefully the extra walking will show up on the scale tomorrow.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer

Foundation: IPKN Moist and Firm BB Cream

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil

Blush: Illamasqua Colour Veil Gel Blusher

Highlighter: Jecca Blac Glow Drops

Powder: Ciate London Extraordinary Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: I heart Revolution Maple Glazed Palette

Mascara: The Feathers by Pretty Vulgar

Lips: Zoeva Powerful lip twist in Rhea and Milk Makeup Glow oil Lip and Cheek tint in Astro

Setting Spray: Benefit Cosmetics The Porefessional Super Setter.

Today I went for a more neutral look. I used the last of the IPKN Sample. While I will be looking for other IPKN products in the future, this BB cream had a little too much moisture for my skin so I won’t be picking up the full size.

The Primer is an Urban Decay Primer that has been discontinued so I am trying to use it up and clear it out. While I won’t be using it exclusively, I will be rotating it in frequently so I can use the last of it. I love it so it isn’t a hardship, but it is discontinued so this is a long goodbye.

The Too Faced bronzer is always a good product to use. I actually chose it today because it is very pigmented and I wanted to test it with the Colour Veil. Because I’ve been testing out a BB cream,. I went light on the bronzer and I wanted to see how the gel blush worked with a darker bronze. I still had to go in lightly with the bronzer because it is still a BB cream underneath, but I really liked the way the gel blusher is performing.

The Jecca Blac Glow drops is one of those products I tend to forget I have but then get really excited when I pull it out of the drawer and try it again. I know it can be used as an illumination over all the skin and it does look really lovely under a full coverage matte foundation, but I don’t often wear full coverage foundations so I really like using this as a highlighter. It can make full coverage look a little less mask like though, which I like.

If you saw my review of the IPKN BB cream then you know a powder is essential to tamp down the shin from the moist side of the Moist and firm BB cream. The Ciate London extraordinary powder works well for that. It’s one downfall is that there can be a little white cast if you use flash photography. I don’t use a flash so I don’t worry about it and just enjoy the powder. This container is a little less than half full at this point so I may work on trying to use it up. I have a lot of own powders at this point and rotating through them just means they all seem to last forever. And I think it is time to work on clearing a few out.

I love my little doughnut shaped palette. It is just such a good little palette. The dark brown can apply patchy at first but it blends easily and the patchiness is easily over come. I don’t use a lid primer with it as it tends to just make the patchiness worse. It is not a powdery formula and tends to last the work day. They fade towards the end of the day, but they will generally get you through the work day.

For the lips I went with a combination of the Zoeva and Milk products. As long as I don’t sharpen the Zoeva lip crayon it is fine. The formula is too soft to hold any sort of point. It is also too neutral for me to wear a lone so I layered the milk Glow oil over it to give it a little more color. I rather like the effect.

And then I set the whole thing with a layer of the super fine mist of the Porefessional supper setter. I absolutely love the fine mist and never have to worry about it going splotchy. I do have to stand the bottle up though as it tends to leak around the edges of the bottle.

And that was today’s look. It is neutral enough that it suits the office and now that the heat isn’t as melty, i can actually wear it out and about when I leave the house. And I am definitely leaving the house again today. I have just a little more work to catch up on before I slip outside. I know this evening I may have to work a little later to catch up, but it is so worth it. Besides we really only get a few weeks of really nice fall weather before it is gone. As fabulous as it is Autumn is fleeting. So I feel it is best to make the most of it while it is here. Plus the simple relief from the heat is cause for celebration all on it’s own. So back to work for me and then, I’m making my great escape.

The Daily: September 27th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings, I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Around here we spent it mostly chopping down a tree and hauling the wood away. The trees weren’t huge and they were lovely trees but they were planted in the wrong location. Namely too near the water main. If it is a choice between the lovely Japanese Maple and having unimpeded running water into the house, I’m afraid the water wins. We’ll be planting replacement trees elsewhere. I know we talked about just moving these, but there was some sort of problem with moving them. I can’t recall what, but we needed to buy more trees instead.

On the plus side we now have mulch.

I know not the most exciting thing to hear about but as I’ve never really thought about how to take down a tree, let alone two (regardless of the size) it was kind of interesting to be a part of. I also think it counts as several weight lifting exercises in one. There was a lot of lifting and carrying involved. Since me and the chain saw aren’t the best of friends, I opted for hauling tree parts away. My back shoulders and the front of my thighs certainly feel the effort of tree removal.

I’m just glad we completed the task post summer heat and pre winter chill.

To each thing it’s season, eh?

Today’s Look:

Primer: Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Primer

Foundation: NYX Professional Makeup Bare with me Tinted Skin Veil

Bronzer: Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Colour Veil Gel Blusher

-currently on sale on the Illamasqua site

Eyeshadow: Elf Bite Sized Cream and Sugar Palette

Mascara: Pretty Vulgar The Feathers Mascara

Lipstick: Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

Setting Spray Lise Watier Magnifix Setting Spray

I know, My plan was to use a few certain products either to continue testing them or to use them up. I just got so annoyed with the YC Collection liquid blush that I just picked up different products. Except for the setting spray. That I think I have only two or three more uses of so I want to finish it out. My YC Collection blushed came in an IPSY bag and they seem to be drying out remarkably fast. I don’t know if I just got an older product or if I might had accidentally not closed one of them all the way but the liquid has noticeably thickened since I opened them a week ago.

So I just went with a different set of products. Today I really just wanted something simple and quick, which it why I chose the products I did. I have only a little bit of the YSL Primer left so I figured I’d use it as it is a sample i want to use up. I like the primer I’m just not sure I like it enough to pay the large price tag for the primer. It is a good primer. It gently illuminates under a matte foundation and it holds face products in place well. It doesn’t do any pore filling or cancellation of redness. While I like an illuminating primer now and again, it is pore filling and redness cancelation that I tend to lean towards. Illumination just isn’t my go to. While this does it well, and I would love to use this more often, I think this is a wait until a sale or make it a spouge purchase for a special event. It isn’t something I would reach for everyday even though I do like it. It does have a lovely scent to it though, which I enjoy.

The NYX Skin Veil always works well for me. It is great when i want something simple and quick. It blends well and I don’t have to actually think about it. which is kind of what i was going for today.

The Ciate Bronzer works well with a skin veil and BB cream type formula because it is not highly pigmented. It is a buildable formula. As the NYX is a more natural finish, the buildable formula was definitely the way to go today.

I also used the Colour Veil from Illamasqua because it is a softer, more gentle blusher. It is a thick jelly formula and a little dab will do. It sheers out into a soft wash of color that I really like. It also goes well with the lighter more natural looking foundations and it stays in place all day.

The Elf Bite sized palette is a long time favorite and of the few I have I do find myself reaching for the Cream and sugar one the most often. It is just a good everyday work palette. And the shades were chosen so it is super easy to work with. Everything just makes sense for in a rush application.

Finally I went with the Clinique lipstick sample that was in this month’s Macy’s subscription. This is the first time I’ve used it and quite honestly it reminds me of the ELF Sheer Slick. It has the same level of pigmentation. It feels a little waxier, almost as though it feels more like a bullet lipstick on the lips. The color is of a sheer lip gloss. I like it and I think I will use it, but I’m not sure I would purchase the full size.

And those my darlings are the highlights from todays look. I used quite a few products I love and even added a new one in. Mostly I just went for what was quick and easy as I am racing towards the end of the month deadlines. Its always the month’s with only thirty days that get me. I don’t know why. It’s not like one day makes as big a difference, yet in the months with only thirty days, I always feel like I am scrambling in that last week. But, such is life. And the race to the end of the month must continue. And so it is back to work I go.
