The Daily: June 28th, 2022

Today was beautiful my darlings. Last night the rain arrived and the world looked refreshed when I woke. In addition the temperatures were only in the sixties. It was sixty-eight I grant you, but it felt like pure bliss. Even now it is only in the mid seventies. I went on a long walk this morning. Much longer than I intended and yes, this afternoon I will be going on another one.

It is the first time I have been able to go outside without melting in a long time and I am loving it.

And I am not the only one. Any neighbor that is in the area has been outside. Laptops have been paired with lawn chairs and instead of looking miserable all of the neighborhood dogs are frolicking in the yard. I have to say, I didn’t realize how many of my neighbors were actually home during the day. I usually only see one or two, unless something crazy happens to draw everyone out. I’m glad this time it is nice weather that is the draw instead of a tree falling in a storm or a utility van backing into a telephone pole.

Both of which sadly have happened in the last twelve months.

But this was more like a prisoners of the heatwave release club gathering. Actually it wasn’t really a gathering, more of an exodus from the cells.

I know it won’t last so I will be taking full advantage of it while I can. Plus I have birthday cake to burn off. So the extra exercise helps.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation

Bronzer/Blush/Highlight: Ultimate Glow Getter Cheek Trio from RealHer

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked Honey Palette

Mascara: ABH Lash Brag Mascara

Brows: IMethod Beauty Perfect Eyebrows in Seconds Kit

Lips: Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb in Diamond Milk

The primer I used today is the Tatcha solid balm primer. It is one of my absolutely favorite primers and I have now used it enough that pan is showing in the center. I was going to simply reorder it, but when I purchased the Kissu Lip mask I received several samples, one of which was the liquid silk canvas primer. I tried it and liked it so I ordered a travel size to give it a full test and to see if I liked it better than the solid version. According to postal tracking that order should arrive this Saturday so next week I will be testing it out and comparing the two. Since I love this primer it will be hard to beat, but i do want to do a side by side comparison. And yes I used that upcoming comparison as a justification for using this primer today.

In my effort to rotate my foundations I chose the Tom Ford this morning. It is a beautiful foundation, but at the moment it is not my shade. While I worked with bronzer to adjust, I think I am going to return this to the winter skin section of the drawer. It is a great formula though and blends beautifully. It is just the wrong shade for this time of year.

I know I have used and praised the Ultimate Glow Getter palette many times. I actually used it down to pan and wore off all of the labeling from the cover. it was my go to travel palette because it is small and reliably good. So I repurchased it. The old one was no more (there was a little highlight left but that was it) This was the first use of the new one and I am really glad I repurchased it. While I enjoyed using it today, and will in the future, even if I only keep it for travel I will be happy I repurchased it.

I am still testing out the Naked Honey palette and I still love the variety of browns and golds. I know a lot of it is simply that I love the shades. I can’t help it, I am always happy when I can reach for a bronzy gold shade. The fact that it is a palette packed with them and that since I am testing the palette I get to use it every day of that test just makes me happy. I will wrap up the review and test on Thursday, but I can see myself reaching for this palette often.

The ABH Mascara wasn’t my favorite when I first got it, but it has grown on me. It can be a little clumpy so I keep an eyelash comb handy when I use it to take out the clumps. If I don’t they flake off. If I use the comb no flakes. It also provides good volume and length. I think when it runs out I will be repurchasing it.

I was sent the eyebrow kit from I Method for the purpose of trying it out. I know my bangs cover a lot, but I will be going into detail in a post later this week because it is an interesting kit. I really like the brow pomade actually. It is working out well for me.

And finally the Diamond Milk. I am not a huge fan of Fenty Beauty. In general I find the products okay but not crave-able. The exception is this gloss bomb. This is a fantastic lip gloss. It looks good, feels good and even when it wears off leaves my lips feeling fabulous instead of dried out. It is a little too big for my lipstick holders so it gets tucked away in a drawer, but I need to keep it out more as it is fantastic. As a brand Fenty isn’t my favorite, but I will use and repurchase this and look into other shades. I really enjoy this gloss bomb.

So that is me today. Nothing much to complain of other than the foundation is the wrong shade for the day. Beyond that I used products I love and tried out something new that I am starting to feel positive about. As I tend to get rid of anything I try that I don’t like it isn’t really much of a surprise that I like what I used, but over all this was a really positive makeup day. I kinda dig those.

The Travel Makeup Bag for May 2022

While not a review, I thought it might be of interest to you to see what I am putting in my travel makeup bag and why. During my daily makeup posts I tend to rotate through makeup, but when I travel I tend to pick reliable products that can fit into a small makeup bag, especially when it is a weekend trip. While this isn’t exactly a fun getaway, it is travel. The only thing I left out of the makeup bag is mascara. The reason is that this trip is for a memorial service and there will be many tears shed. At the moment I have yet to pick up a waterproof mascara so I am leaving my mascara behind and will either pick up a waterproof mascara at the drug store or go without.

When traveling I generally find it a good idea to stick to products that don’t spill and I try to reduce the possible breakage component by sticking to cream products so they feature heavily in this bag.

This time I am starting with the Kristopher Buckle Triplicity Foundation stick. It has traveled with me for quite some time. It is my old reliable. I’m still not certain of the status of the company. I know that the main website shut down after massive sales and now it is available at walmart. It is a fantastic foundation, I just don’t know if it will be replaced once it runs out. I may actually scoop up one more for travel purposes because it is really hard to beat this stick formula. Plus I don’t have to worry about foundation bottles breaking. But if the company has gone under I won’t stock up, I’ll just work on finding a new travel fave.

The face products

The primer I am taking with me is the Tatcha Silk canvas Primer. It is a fantastic pore filling primer that locks in my makeup for as long as I end up wearing it. As I have no idea how long I will be in makeup this weekend I thought it would be a good product to choose.

The trestique bronzer shouldn’t surprise anyone. It is quick and easy to use and one of my favorite cream formulas. The Illamasqua Colour Veil Gel blusher also shouldn’t surprise anyone as it is rapidly moving to the top of my favorite products list.

I didn’t bother with a highlighter, but you may notice a tiny round pot with a gold lid and a pink bow on it. I know, it looks like an eye cream, however it is actually a sample size of the Ciate London Extraordinary powder. It came in an IPSY bag a while back and to be honest, I have refilled it a couple of times. For a weekend it is all the powder I need. I will be adding the powder puff from the Kim Chi Powder to my makeup bag to use with it.

Shadow and Brow

For eyeshadow I am taking The Balm and The Beautiful Palette from The Balm. It is the one I’ve been playing with recently. I really like the formulas and the ease of application and it is a compact size that fits in the bag. So since it was already out, I went ahead and added it to the makeup bag. I will have the full review of the palette up next week, I simply didn’t get a chance to finish it this week.

I added a Marcelle eyebrow pencil because I like it and it has a spoolie on the end so I don’t have to worry about adding secondary brow products (like a brush) into the bag. And then we have the lips.

the lips

I’ll be honest, i don’t think I have ever traveled with just one lip product in my life. To this bag I added my favorite MAC neutral in Bated Breath. I also added a Trestique lip crayon in case I wanted a slightly darker product. I added the Yensa Lip oil in case I felt like shine, or only a glossy lip with no lipstick and I chose an assortment of lip pencils. Some match the lip products others stand alone. For this bag I chose, UOMA, Persona Cosmetics, Bodyography, Huda Beauty and Real Her. I figure they are all relatively neutral and all have slightly different formulas. I plan to choose whichever one appeals at the right moment. And more than anything I like having a variety of lip products to choose from. Oddly enough in out of control situations it can sometimes make me feel like I am in control by making a decisive decision as to what lip product to wear. As it is a weekend where I can control nothing and can only deal with whatever happens, having that one tiny bit of control, really does help me mentally balance. Even if having seven lip products in the bag does seem a little extra.

Sometimes it isn’t abut what you actually wear.

And so that my darlings, is the makeup bag I will be traveling with this weekend and why I chose the products included.

The Daily: May 5th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Have you ever had one of those days where you get up go through your morning routine and then as you sit down with your first cup of coffee look at your schedule so you can have a sense of your day? Today I did that, as I do most mornings. And my schedule looked clear.

It looked like smooth uninterrupted desk work for the duration of the day. Which was nice. I had a lot of work to get done and it was nice to have a long stretch of time in which to do it. I then looked at the weather and saw that it was going to be sunny today and I might actually be able to chance a walk and at least see if the flood waters have receded from the walking trail.

Then the work day started. Given that I was going to be on my own, sans meetings today I was going to go makeup free. I settled into my desk thinking, ‘Maybe a nice moisturizing mask around lunch time would be a good idea.’ I had a vision for my day.

Then I looked at my e-mail. And found there were several unexpected meetings, some requiring video. Now I know loads of people really want to see the people they are meeting with face to face, but the thing is, very little I do requires more than a phone conversation. I always spend the video calls taking notes and asking the occasional question for clarification. which is also what I do for regular phone calls, except that on a regular phone call you can’t tell I didn’t bother with makeup and might be wearing a face mask. Even if most of the call is people watching the top of my head as I write down notes.

Still against all odds, some people love video calls. So I hustled into a quick makeup look and made sure my hair was passably respectable. The earrings I chose because I like them and I am always interested to see if anyone notices the ‘hoops’ are actually octopus tentacles. Thus far no one has commented on them if they have noticed. But it amuses me. I do wish I remembered where I picked them up though. I really like them and I remember that there was a ring there I liked as well. It had an octopus head where the ring would be and then the tentacles wrapped decoratively around the finger. It was delicately done in an old gold look. I remember really wanting it but thinking that I couldn’t get away with it in the office (it was a very conservative office). And I never saw it again. I remember it striking me because it was very delicately done fine jewelry rather than the heavier steam punk sort of pieces that you usually see with octopus designs.

While I like a lot of the Steampunk stuff I am just an old school fan of Jules Verne. Journey to the Center of the Earth was my absolute favorite, followed very closely by 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. Both are books I highly recommend reading. The imaginative landscapes are just fantastic.

But no one noticed the earrings or at least they didn’t say anything. And my memory search for the maker of both the earrings and the ring remain.

In addition to the surprise meetings I also have an upcoming evening I forgot about. Because if you look at your calendars you will see that today is Cinco de Mayo. My babydoll and I are meeting a few friends on the patio of our favorite Mexican Place tonight. It’s a locally owned spot with wide open spaces and fantastic food. So that was a nice surprise to balance out the unexpected meeting surprises. So this is the look I threw together when I realized I would have to see people. I will probably change out the lips and put on a more festive shirt for tonight.

Today’s Look:

Pre Makeup Base: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Primer: No Poreblem Primer from Touch in Sol

Foundation: Yensa BC Full Coverage Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing stick

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Kim Chi Puff Puff Pass Set and Bake Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: The Balm and The Beautiful Vol 1 from The Balm

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips: Real Her Lip Liner in Be Yourself Be Real Her

The name of today’s game was quick, easy and looking good for a work meeting. Which I managed I think. At least no one on my calls thought I was on my way to a clown convention, so that’s a good sign.

The Embryolisse made every thing apply extra easy. I put it on, then went rounding up products and tied up my hair. By the time that was done, I was ready to apply may makeup. The Touch in Sol primer I haven’t used in a while. No real reason other than it was on it’s side and rolled to the back of the drawer. It is a good primer. It blurs pores but isn’t pore filling and it is moisturizing without being glowy. It is neither matte nor brightening. It does have that silicone slippy feeling to it but i don’t mind that as long as it keeps the foundation from settling into my fine lines, which it does.

I went for the Yensa BC Foundation over the Serum Silk one I’ve been working with for the last two weeks because I did want a final comparison and Yes I do like the BC Foundation a little bit better. They are both great products, But this Skin on Skin formula is just my preference. I’ll still happily use them both, this is just the one I’d repurchase first.

The Trestique and Illamasqua are both easy reaches and beautiful products that I didn’t have to think about. which was the point today. They worked well with the face products underneath. And as I now have the hang of the Kim Chi powder I didn’t apply too much and things worked well. Given that the Yensa has a slight glow to it I didn’t bother with a highlighter. It just wasn’t needed.

The Balm palette was fantastic this morning when I reached for it. It applied easy, blended beautifully and I think looked good. I topped off the eyes with Stila mascara. It is getting low and will soon be empty. It is one that I will be replacing asap. (I’m doing a mascara inventory this weekend to see what products I have that I haven’t used before I repurchase though, but that is because I don’t like holding a lot of extra products.)

Then we get to the lips. I don’t know how evident this is, but I have been sorting through my odd collection of lip liners trying to figure out which ones I like, which ones I need to get rid of and what shades I am missing. Today I grabbed randomly and came up with the real her one. It is a retractable liner with a really nice point to it which makes it perfect for lining the lips. It is a but thin for filling the lisp in. Based on the color stripe on the end of the pencil I thought it was a deep berry almost burgundy shade. It was a lot brighter than I thought with much more pink tones. The formula is creamy and wears like a lipstick but i am not a huge fan of the color. I think I would wear this under a dark lipstick I wanted to brighten but it is too pink for me to wear on my own. It is a nice creamy formula though so I might keep Real Her in mind when filling out my lip liner shad range. I am just not a fan of the color.

And that was me today. I know, not the most fascinating of days, but at least when I sit down I will feel justified that I have certainly earned my margarita tonight. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

The Daily: May 3rd, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. The rain has returned and the humidity level is high. As a result my bangs have decided that an 80s style poof is the way to go. They won’t get there without the help of a teasing comb a round brush and a boat load of Aqua Net, but they are trying. So I am doing my best to ignore them today.

I made no attempt to go outside. It was raining when I woke up, it rained through the morning and it is raining now. I’m trying to think of the fabulous germination my newly planted seeds are getting and less of the walk I will not be taking. It is the down side to building a walking trail in the flood plain. It rains, the trail floods. But I will not harp on it, even though I am still casting longing looks out of the window.

The reason it is so important is that I know on rainy days like this I always slack off a bit on my exercise. I tell myself to push hard, but I just know that I don’t push all that hard on days like today. In fact I don’t think I did much pushing in April, which is why the waist band of my jeans feels a little on the snug side. I have already accepted that on my first weigh in back I will have gained weight. I know everything got out of whack in April. I spent last week getting my meal plan back into alignment and this week I am ramping up the exercise.

Except today. Today I don’t think I pushed as hard as I could. I’ll be making up for it with lighter meals today, but I need to find something to keep me on track for the days when walking isn’t possible. Sadly I may have to go back to some sort of reward system. I had it in place for my initial weight loss plan then when i went to reward myself with something I wanted I found it was sold out and then I couldn’t think of a replacement so I let the system lapse. maybe I’ll keep the rewards in categories instead of specifics. A new pair of yoga pants instead of this specific pair of yoga pants. I think it was a pair of earrings that threw me last time. I saw this adorable pair of bumblebee earrings, but they were gone by the time I reached the reward point. nd then I didn’t see a pair I wanted. General may be the way to go on that. But that is something to figure out later. Maybe after dinner.

Today’s Look:

Pre Makeup Base: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

$10.00 OFF on Makeup Compact Powder. Embryolisse – the Dermo-cosmetic expertise.

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: Yensa Super Serum Silk Foundation

Concealer: Dior Backstage Concealer

Bronzer/Blush/Highlight: Ultimate Glow Getter by Real Her

Powder: Kim Chi Puff Puff Pass Set and Bake Powder

Eyeshadow: The Balm and the Beautiful Eyeshadow Palette from The Balm

Mascara: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag

Lips: Trestique Lip Crayon in Florence Fig

Okay today was a fun one. First off Love the embryolisse as a base. I apply it ten minutes before I apply anything else so my skin has time to absorb the cream in and everything just flows wetter with great hydrated skin and no cakey look to anything.

I am loving the way my eyes came out today

It really helped out the setting powder today as the air is so damp. between the humidity and the cream I needed the setting powder to dial back the shine. It did sort of counteract my test of dry products though. I use the Real Her Palette today because I wanted all powder face products and it was just easiest to grab.

Normally I use this more in the summer time because it goes so well with a light tinted moisturizer natural look, but it applied well today. Ideally though this is a natural look palette. It is well loved though. Pan is showing in all three of the products and I am hoping it will make it through the summer. I don’t think it will make it past this summer so I will probably be replacing it in the fall. it is fantastic with a tinted moisturizer.

It did work well with the Yensa. This is an easy foundation to use actually and I am really enjoying it. My full review will be up this Thursday as I finish out my review.

I am falling in love with this palette from the Balm. I applied the shade Cut and thought wow that is a great all over shade, but since I am seeing how they blend I went for the darkest shade Cliff Hanger and really like the way it blended. I then used the silver shimmer of Roll Credits and it looks great. I am personally loving today’s eye look. If it keeps performing this well during the rest of the test (it is only the second day) I might just have found one of my everyday go to palettes because this was easy to reach for and has workable shades. The trick will see if I still like it next week or if it becomes slightly boring. There is always a fine line with an everyday neutral palette. We’ll have to see where this end up, but I have my fingers crossed for it.

Today I also reached for the ease of the Trestique lip crayon. I love these. This is the Florentine fig and I reach for the color often which is why it is almost a nub. It is comfortable to wear, the crayon is refillable and while one side is a matte color, the other side has a lip balm to go over it if you want a bit of shine. I am really a fan of the formula. It wears a bit like a traditional lipstick though. It won’t dry down and it will wear off. It is very comfortable to wear though.

And that my darlings is me today. my bangs are misbehaving but I love my eye look. I’d be nice if I could get the hair and makeup to cooperate on the same day, but i will take what I can get. And today, the eyes have it.

The Daily: August 31st, 2021

Ah my darlings we have reached the end of the month. I don’t know why the end of the month always turns into a train wreck of last minute projects and a scramble to get things done, yet somehow, it always does. This month is no exception. In fact I think it might be worse because it is the end of August. Not only is the month ending but it feels as though summer is as well.

I know the heat will not really break for another few weeks, but today it is raining. The temperatures are only in the 70s instead of the 90s and it feels like autumn is don’t it’s best to sneak in under cloud cover. Each year I have great plans i want in place before autumn arrives and each year it takes me a bit by surprise. I always plan to be further ahead than I actually am.

At least with the rain there is no temptation for a walk. The park has already flooded and become impassable. And we have at least another day of this if the weathermen are correct. So even if it prohibits the walking, it is keeping me locked down at my desk and checking off the things that need to be done at months end and beginning. So that’s sort of nice. And I’ll try to work in some weights and yoga this afternoon when I need a break from sitting at the desk.

Mostly because I know i won’t be able to sit still all day. It is the change that comes from routine exercise. As hard as it is to get started incorporating exercise into your routine, after a while your body starts getting fidgety if you skip it. I still regard things like the gym as necessary evils, and have no idea how it is that some people truly enjoy the gym. Power to them actually, I wish sometimes that I was one of them. But I am not. The gym is a chore like any other. But it is not one I have to face today. In fact i have been taking a break from the gym lately due to rising infection rates in my area. Hence the reason my normal work out got rained out today. But I will sneak in some yoga and watch my calories, so it shouldn’t be too big a set back.

Today’s look:

Primer: Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional Primer

Foundation: Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Lava Water Foundation

Blush/Bronze/highlight: Real Her Ultimate Glow Getter Cheek Trio

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed powder

eyeshadow: real Her dreams so Big Eyeshadow Duo

Lips: Milk Makeup Lip and Cheek Tint

Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara

Setting Spray: Farsali Rose Gold Face Mist

I’ll be honest, today I grabbed the Porefessional and Pretty Vulgar products partially because they were still out from yesterday and partially because I really liked using them yesterday. They are both great products and I didn’t have a problem using them two days in a row. Everything else was more or less chosen because I didn’t really want to think about it.

I know the Real Her cheek Trip works well and easily, the Marc Jacobs mascara is one of my favorites and the No 7 remains my favorite pressed powder. The Milk Makeup lip and cheek stain I really like only on my lips and I hadn’t used it in a while so I decided it would be nice to use today.

The Real Her Eyeshadow duo I am still coming to terms with. While I love the Real Her palette, this is the first eyeshadow I have tried from the brand Real Her. It is a nice duo with a brown shade and a pink shimmer. It is not highly pigmented, but it is buildable. The matte shade needs to be tapped off after you dip a brush in to avoid fall out, but if you tap the brush then there isn’t a lot of fall out during application. The shimmer is subtle with a dry brush. I haven’t tried it with a wet brush, but I will to see if it is improved. thus far there is little fall out from the shimmer either.

Over all today was more about doing my make up quickly and simply with products I know and like. I just couldn’t resist the eyeshadow at the end. Not terribly exciting I know, but I do like knowing what products I reach for when I need something consistently good Pretty much all of these products fall into the reliable category.

But now it is back to work for me today. The rain is falling pretty heavily now and I am determined to clear off this stack of paperwork before the new month/season starts in the morning. Wish me luck.

The Daily: August 11th, 2021

Well my darlings, today I avoided the gym and braved the walking trail instead. The reason being the drastic number of increased cases in my area. And the fact that even though my gym has reinstated their masking policy, very few people are following it and it isn’t really being enforced.

Plus I’ve seen how perfunctory some of my fellow gym members are when wiping down equipment. So I decided the walking trail it would be. I went a little before ten this morning and thought, this won’t be too bad.

It kind of was.

I tried to get a few things done before going on the walk and it was a bad idea. I think I am going to have to get up, wash my face, put on sunscreen and go for the walk first thing until I go back to the gym. The heat actually wasn’t that bad but I was soaked by the time I got back to the house. Clothes went directly into the washing machine so they didn’t stink up the closet via the laundry basket. There was an impromptu laundry run post walk. Well post shower actually. I cooled down a bit, took the shower and then ran the laundry. Even though I can’t run the laundry every day I think my walking clothes are going directly into the machine post walk. So we again shuffle the schedule a bit until the numbers drop and the gym gets its act together.

But at least I got the walk in.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Face Primer

Foundation: Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation

Bronzer: NARS Bronzer in Laguna Beach

Blush: Billion Dollar Beauty Blush in Amour

Highlighter: Billion Dollar Beauty Highlighter in Mystic

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed powder

Brows: Billion Dollar Beauty Brow Pomade in Taupe

Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara

Eyeshadow: RealHer Dreams so Big Eyeshadow Duo paired with Moon Eyeshadow From Billion Dollar Beauty

Lips: Zoeva Powerful Lip Twist in Rhea

Setting Spray: Farsali Rose Gold Facial Spray

Necklace from the Rachel Zoe Collection

I am actually really pleased with the way things turned out today, look wise. I think the neutral look of everything else really should have been paired with a stronger lip, but I wanted to test out the Zoeva Lip Twist. When I did the swatch with the product, the tip bend because it was a really soft formula. Even though I was gentle in applying it, the tip fell completely off within seconds of being touched to my lip. It does have a sharpener on the end, but I didn’t use it. I rolled out the product so a little flat edge was above the tube and used it that way. It applied well in that instance and I think because of the softness of the formula, I will not actually sharpen it. I will just roll up the product a little bit at a time and use it that way. I actually like the color. It is a nude that I can wear without my lips completely disappearing into my face, which is a nice shade to have. If you use this product though, be aware it is very soft. It applies creamy though and lasts for quite a while. It wears off like a moisturized bullet lipstick formula but it doesn’t flake, it doesn’t actually dry down enough to flake. So plan to reapply after lunch.

The second item that is new to me is the eyeshadow Duo from RealHer. The shades are Imagine and Ambition. One is essentially a matte brown and the other a rosy shimmer. I liked how they performed. The matte applied well and blended easily. It did crease a little bit towards the end of the day, but I do have hooded eyes and I didn’t use a lid primer. The shimmer was okay with a dry brush but better with a wet brush. I really like this quad and would definitely consider taking it with me on my travels in place of a larger palette. I would add concealer to my lids before using it again though. I don’t think it needs a full on lid primer, but a little help from concealer might help stop the minor end of day creasing.

I did add a touch of Moon to brighten up the corners. I would add that to the travel bag as well. The Moon Shadow and the Brow Pomade may be my favorite Billion Dollar Beauty Products. actually think the Brow Pomade may be my favorite brow product at the moment. It is in my BDB magnetic palette right now. While I love the palette and frequently use the mirror on it, I think I am going to move the brow pomade out of the kit. I put it too close to the highlighter and now it has a smattering of dust on it. I think that as soon as my NARS sample sized bronzer is empty, I may use that as a single container for the Brow Pomade as it is just the right size for a single pan.

At the moment have a full finger tips worth of pan showing in the NARS. Now that the pan is showing it seems to be going quickly. I don’t know why I find that oddly fulfilling but I do.

The Farsali setting spray is almost to the half way point. It is sparkly, it is in a lovely glass bottle, but I don’t really care for the scent and I don’t think it performs terribly well. It performs well enough that I’ll use it up, but it isn’t something I will repurchase. I think that fact is highlighted more by the fact that every other product I used today is one that I would repurchase. And that includes the so soft Zoeva. Once you accept that the tip will break off and apply with the flat side, it is a good lip product. As is everything else I used today.

Actually I have been trying not to use my No 7 powder so much so that I can clear out some of the other products in my collection. It is hands down my favorite powder, drug store or otherwise. I think part of it is the formula and part of it is that the tones of the Medium really suit my skin tone. The tan may deepen or fade depending on the time of year, but the No 7 goes with the tone of it really well. I just need to work on using up and clearing out some other products.

And because I am trying to mention my jewelry as well, the necklace is from the Rachel Zoe Collection. I picked it up at TJ Maxx actually. I have a weakness for thin chains with a small charm on them. This one was just flashy enough for me. I actually quite like it. And with that, it is back to work for me. I hope the rest of your day is fantastic.

The Daily: July 28th, 2021

When you start on a healthy lifestyle plan, especially if the plan involves losing weight, there are a few basic habits that you get into. One of them is frood planning. In general I am pretty good at this. I plan my food for the week and have one healthy snack option lined up for the day to combat cravings.

The problem is that for the past year, my meetings have predominantly been taken over the phone or on the computer. I didn’t have to drive across town to a meeting and worried about getting delayed and hungry along the way. And so when I had a meeting scheduled for today I completely spaced about throwing a protein bar in my bag so that if I was hungry by the time my meeting ended I could nosh on it instead of getting pulled in by the long like of drive-thru restaurants on the way from the meeting to the house.

Plus I forgot breakfast. And my meeting ran long. I did get in my workout before the meeting, which while good, sadly added to the issue.

It was the perfect storm.

I ended up with a container of medium fries from McDonald’s.

And let me tell you…It was delicious!

I can’t even remember the last time I had french fries. They weren’t what I planned, but they were very much appreciated.

This meeting was a bit strange actually. I think people have gotten out of the habit of meeting in person and haven’t quite made the mental switch to remembering that everyone else isn’t on the other side of the screen.

Although trust me, it would have been nice to have a mute button.

So the workout was done, and extra calories were consumed. Tomorrow I’ll tack on a little extra to my workout to make up for it. For now I am just happy to cool off for a bit.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional Primer

Foundation: Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation

Blush/Bronzer/highlight: The Ultimate Glow Getter Cheek Trio from Real Her

Powder: ABH Setting powder

Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara

Lips: Bodyography lip pencil in Rosewood with YSL Lip Gloss over it

Setting Spray: Farsali Rose Gold Facial Mist

I know, some of you are looking at the list and thinking I forgot to put eyeshadow down. I didn’t. Today I just dusted a bit of blush over my lids and trusted my mascara to distract from the lack of eyeshadow. I think the Marc Jacobs had quite enough pop on it’s own.

And in case you are wondering, this is the post meeting and drive across town while eating french fries look. I started with my hair down, it was too hot so on the way home I twisted it up in the back with a clip. I added more lip gloss before the picture was taken.

Quite frankly I am impressed everything wasn’t sweated off my face. The back of my shirt was damp when I got home but the make up was in tact. Partial credit I will give to both Benefit and Tom Ford but I have to say, I think the ABH setting powder deserves a bit of credit. It locked everything down and even though it looked a little powder when I left for my meeting, the powdery look disappeared once the sun hit my skin. I may not be able to count on that in the winter, but it was a big help today.

If you are looking to stock up for fall the sale is still going on at Marc Jacobs Beauty. The Velvet Noir is on sale for $17.50 (that’s what I’m wearing today and it is consistently one of my favorite mascaras.)

In addition Benefit Cosmetics also has a sale going on. It started yesterday and runs through August 13th. If you are looking to stock up on Benefit products now is certainly the time. The link below will take you to the sale. Happy shopping!

The Makeup Bag: December 11th, 2020

The Makeup Bag Used December 5th – 11th

Welcome my darlings to the weekly makeup bag where I discuss all of the products I used throughout the week.  This week I wanted to test out one of my liquid eyeshadows and the one I tested was the Eye Dazzle in the shade Leona from Josephine Cosmetics

No matter how this shade looks on line, it is a lovely coppery shade in real life.  And you know how I love my coppery shades.  The link will take you to the full review post, but over all my experience with this liquid shadow was a positive one.  Last week I tried out the black eyeliner from Josephine Cosmetics and that too was rather positive which tells me I might want to take a bit of time and look more into the brand.

As The coppery shimmer of the eye dazzle was so bright, I paired it with the all matte palette of The Balm’s Meet Matt (e) Trimony. I really like the formula of The Balm’s eyeshadows and I have to say even though the palettes in metal tins seem to get all the press, I really like this flat style palette better.  I found the tins hard to open and a bit frustrating even if they are cute.  This opens easily, has large usable pans of shadow and blends well. I was very happy to use it this week

While I will be doing more separate tool reviews in the future I wanted to just add just a few I used with my shadows this week.  I adore my color switch tin and it is probably one of the best purchases I’ve made in a while. Mine is from Sephora, but you can get them from a bunch of different brands. It helps me use fewer brushes each time I apply shadow and thus put off the giant shadow brush wash for a little bit, which I think helps keep the brushes lasting a bit longer.

The three shadow brushes I leaned on the most this week were The Shadow and Eye Crease brushes from Shaina B (Black handles) that came in an IPSY a while ago and a tapered blending brush from a Lavash brush set (Pink handle).  While all worked really well, the Lavash brush is starting to look a little worse for wear.  This week it lost a number of bristles. It isn’t beyond use, but it is getting there.  As I think I’ve had the set about a year, it doesn’t speak well to the longevity of the brush. Thus far the other brushes in the set are holding up better so perhaps I just use this one more. I have been impressed with the Shaina B brushes.   They are both frequently used, but neither has lost a single bristle yet.

Along with my shadows I pressed my Eyeko skinny liner into service this week (it is pictured below with the lip products and swatches).  As always Eyeko’s formula worked brilliantly.  Whether it is in the skinny or fat form, their eyeliners are simply amazing.  They don’t fade, stay in place all day and never seep into the fine lines of my skin. In addition, they are decently priced, always a win in my book.

To wrap up the eyes, I again used the They’re Real mascara from Benefit.  It is a sample size and after two weeks of use it is almost used up.  While I will keep it in the Makeup bag a third week, I believe the sample sized tube will run out of product before next week runs out of days and so I will probably add a second mascara to pick up where it leaves off. I have a second unopened tube of They’re Real in my dressing table, but I’ll leave it rest for a while until I manage to work my way through a few of my already opened products. While I prefer the volumizing of Bad Gal Bang, this is a really nice lengthening mascara and I am glad that when this runs out, I still have a back up to reach for.

Speaking of Benefit, I also used a Benefit Primer this week.  I went for the pore filling fabulousness of The Pore Professional (the link will take you to the full review). While it has been around for a while now, it is still a hard product to beat and one that I really like having in my dressing table and rotating into my makeup bag.

It worked very well this week with my repeat use of the Ulta Beauty Youthful glow foundation (link is to the full review).  It remains a really good light weight foundation and I am really glad that I used it a second week.  While I will still be testing out new foundation products, I want to make sure to use the foundations I already have rather than just automatically purchasing new for the sake of trying new products (although I love trying new products, especially foundations, I really hate wasting product).  However this will be rotating back into the dressing table this week and giving another product a chance at being used.  One thing I find really fun about circling back through foundation products is that if I didn’t like a foundation, I didn’t keep it after my first round.  I have a cousin I trade products with periodically as some products I don’t like, she does and visa versa.  That means that when I open the drawer all of my choices in foundations are products I actually liked enough to keep.

It makes choosing my foundation each week a delightfully difficult task with no really bad outcome.

But Youthful Glow from Ulta Beauty will be returning to the dressing table this week so another can be chosen.

Decisions, decisions, my darlings.

No. 7 Pressed powder and Kristofer Buckle loose setting powder

One product that hasn’t gotten any rest has been my No. 7 Pressed powder.  This week saw more and more of the silver pan exposed.  I’m guessing that by New Years at the latest the compact will be completely empty.  I kind of suspect it won’t last that long actually. It is a really great powder and, if you couldn’t tell by the amount of product used, I really like using it. While it will be repurchased, I want to concentrate on using up at least one of the other pressed powders in my dressing table first.  So I am going to try to resist the urge to go out an immediately repurchase this powder once it is gone.  I’m not sure how well I will do at resisting. It will however be staying in the makeup bag until it is completely used up.

Hourglass Blush and Space Case Bronzer

My bronzer this week was the Fakeation on Mars from Space Case Cosmetics.  Because of it’s size I tend to overlook it when choosing products from the drawer and that really is a shame.  The formula is very buildable.  Putting on too much of it actually takes a bit of effort. Also as my skin loses its tan and goes winter white, it lets me adjust to the amount of product I use quite easily.  I like that as too much bronzer can make your face look a bit dirty. That has never been a problem with this.  I really like that on a light makeup day I can still use it to bring a little definition to my cheeks without going over the top.

My blush this week was also one that I found easy to blend out into a low makeup look, or build up for something more glam.  That is the Hourglass ambient light Blush in diffused heat.  I really like both the formula and the bendability of the product.

And then we get to the highlighter.

This week, we had a bit of an issue.

First of all, I would love to say that I love my babydoll. I really do.  Occasionally, he just doesn’t realize his own strength and tends to be a bull in a china shop.  He also grew up with two brothers, a father with only brothers and all male cousins.  His mother had her own bathroom which all of the boys were forbidden to enter.  Having met everyone as adults, I think it was a wise decree on her part.

This week my babydoll needed tweezers and I told him there was a set in my makeup bag. So he went to retrieve it.  There he saw several compacts (pressed powder, blush and highlighter).  Since he thinks all compacts hold powder, he was surprised there were three compacts as he felt there should be only one. So he opened one of the compacts to look inside.

My poor Ciate London highlighter

The compact he opened held the Ciate London Confetti highlighter.  As you can probably tell from the picture, the product is composed of lots of little balls in varying tones (like confetti) pressed together to form one solid.  Mine was fairly thin in the middle because I really like the golden tones this highlighter produces.  That is also where he pressed to see if they were individual balls or one polka dotted lump.  You can see the results in the image.  There is now a chunk of pan showing and the compact must be held flat so that little beads of highlighter don’t spill out.  He was very apologetic.

So while I will need to take more care when I use this highlighter moving forward, I do like this highlighter and the golden glow it gives my skin.  Actually I am fond of a lot of Ciate Products.  At this point I think I am only lacking a bronzer to be able to do a full face of Ciate products.  I think that when I do get around to ordering a bronzer, so that I can do a full face, I may pick up a new highlighter as well.  Of course at the moment every time i go to the Ciate site I look at the Miss Piggy Collection they now have out. I adore the muppets and that Miss Piggy hand mirror is calling my name hard. Don’t get me wrong, the make up sponge with the pig nose imprint is adorable and the makeup looks good too, but that mirror is just calling to me. And it is calling to me in Miss Piggy’s voice.

Now that the center has been breached in my highlighter, I’m not certain how long the rest of the product will hold on to the pan before crumbling. with the top layer gone, it seems to have lost structural integrity. So I suspect a Ciate London order is in my near future. I’ll have to keep you posted.

My final face product was the loose setting powder from Kristofer Buckle. (Currently it is on sale if you want to check it out. Normally it is $24 but the sale puts it at $18. There is a lot of powder in it and it is a really good value for the money). I really like using this powder.  It is very finely milled and settles well on the skin.  My only issue is that when you open the inner lid, there is usually a puff of product that hits the air.  It isn’t a lot, but you just have to remember not to breath in or you will be tasting powder for about an hour.  It is a consequence of it being so finely milled. It is also what makes the powder so nice to use, but the small product puff is just something to remember.

The lips (and Eyeko Eyeliner)

My lips this week were coated in three lipsticks (although not at the same time) an one lip liner. The vegan lip liner was from RealHer and it was the shade 20218 Be Yourself Be Real Her. It is red enough that it went well with my Dose of Colors Date Night liquid lipstick. It is also red enough that when my lines weren’t perfectly straight it showed and my lips looked lopsided.  It was easy to fix, as long as I caught it.

Which I didn’t always do, so a few times this week my lips looked a little crooked.

It is however a fabulously creamy and easy to work with lip liner, It stayed in place, even when I placed it wrong, and corralled my lipstick well. It is just a shade where any crookedness shows. I tend to have that with any dark shade of lip liner. I’m just not good with straight lines. Its why with lip liner I generally stick to more forgiving shades. I was just so pleased to hav one that matched the Dose Date Night that I forgot my wobble. I am working on the lines though so with practice there is less wobble. It also means that on the days when I am working alone at my desk with no possibility of a video call I tend to have very red lips.

Practice makes perfect, my darlings. Or at least a little less wobbly in my case. With luck anyway.

So there was user error, not product issues. I have to say the more Real Her products I try, the more I like the brand.  Thus far I think their eyeliner turned out to be good, but not one of my favorites, but everything else has been fabulous. I have really been impressed with this brand as a whole, at least in the products I’ve tried.

swatches: Top Eyeko Liner, Bottom RealHer lip liner, Left to Right between them, Fluide, Dose of colors, and Elf.

The Dose of Colors in Date Night dried down well and stayed in place all day with no problem. (At the moment Ulta is having a sale on this particular liquid lip. you can get it and a neutral lip as a duo for $12.50. It is an online only offer I believe. The above link will take you to that page on Ulta.) It left my lips a little dry, but with my Jersey Shore Cosmetics Lip Balm handy, that wasn’t a problem. The Fluide Liquid Lip in the shade Candy Bar wasn’t as drying, but it didn’t dry down all the way, left a few lip prints on my coffee mug and needed to be reapplied after lunch.  It is the cost of a non-drying formula.  Both formulas are very comfortable to wear and they are lipsticks I do reach for often. My final lip product was the elf Black Cherry sheer slick.  What can I say?  It is a great formula, a wonderfully sheer wash of color and over all fantastic product.

At the end, finally there was my Laura Geller Spackle Mist.  It sets the make up well and is more coconut water scented rather than coconut scented so the aroma is light and fresh which I enjoy.  I am about half way through the bottle so it will be going back to the dressing table while another product is rotated into next week’s makeup bag.

And with the setting spray, this week’s makeup bag is complete.  This week I had a good set of products to work with and aside from the highlighter debacle no major issues. And really, there was no way to predict that sort of highlighter issue.  I did learn though that next time my baby doll needs something I have in my makeup bag, I need to get it for him instead of letting him retrieve it himself. Apparently his mother was onto something with her banishment.

The Make up Bag: November 20, 2020

The Make Up Bag Used November 14th – 20th, 2020

This is going to be a bit of an odd post for me this week as I used a face palette from PUR for four of my face products.  This week the Pur 4-in-1 Skin Perfecting Powders served as the source of my powder, bronzer, blush and highlight. The link will take you to my full review, but overall it was a pretty good palette.

While I wouldn’t reach for each product individually, I would feel confident in adding the entire palette to a makeup bag without adding any extras to balance it out.  Quite simply my darlings it is a face palette where everything works well. I was very pleased with it.

I was less pleased with the LA Splash Eyeshadow palette. While I was thrilled Glossy Box had a full sized palette (and really that is very rapidly becoming one of my favorite subscription boxes) The mattes were powder but the shimmers worked well.

In the end I don’t think it was worth its $32 price tag as my $5.99 Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon Palette was so much better.  It did make me remember that I had that palette and will probably cause me to pull the wet ‘n wild palette out of the drawer and add it to next week’s makeup bag, so that was a plus.  But this palette was not my favorite. There are more details in my full review, but I would not recommend picking this palette up, even if I do still give a thumbs up to Glossy Box for the full sized palette.

With the eyeshadow I used both my Pretty Vulgar Lid Primer and my Pretty Vulgar Concealer in an attempt to get it to stay in place (not at the same time, you understand). I adore both products.  I really like the concealer as it does not crease on me and settle into fine lines and usually the Pretty Vulgar Lid Primer is like velcro for eyeshadow.  I was happy to have them both in my bag this week, even if there were some shadow issues.

This week I used up the last of my Hey Honey Trick or Treat CC2 as my foundation product.  I really enjoyed using this and am very sad my trial sized tube is now empty.  I will however be ordering it in a full size once I have worked through some of my open products.

Less successful this week was the First Aid Beauty Pores be gone Matte Primer. I love pore filling primers.  I love matte primers.  This was neither.  It is a very moisturizing primer. It feels good against the skin, but it is not filling any pores.  My skin liked it, but it didn’t do its job.  My pores remained unfilled and it wasn’t very matte. I am happy that it was a trial size and that the tube wasn’t really a full one.  After a week of use, the tube is empty and heading to the empties bin.  I will not be purchasing a full sized replacement even though I will be picking up a full sized First Aid Beauty Coconut Water Moisturizer soon.  While the moisturizer was a good product at least in a trial run, it seems to be a one off for me.  Other First Aid Beauty products don’t seem to work as well for me.

Doucce Eyeliner and Realher Brow pencil

You know what did work well for me?  The Doucce Ultra precision Eyeliner. After being so disappointed in the eyeshadow palette, I was thrilled that I really liked this eyeliner.  I tried it a long time ago (or a slightly different Doucce eyeliner) and loved it. It gave me a positive impression of the brand and then both the eyeshadow and mascara were only so so.  Which made me doubt the eyeliner.  But no, the eyeliner is just as good as I remember it.  It is creamy, glides on smoothly and stays in place all day.  What more could I want in an eyeliner? Oh yeah, to have it be on sale, which it is on the Look Fantastic site. They are having a bunch of sales, which I’ll post at the bottom of this post, but the eyeliner is on sale and this link will take you to that specific sale item (if you are shopping)

This week I finally got to open my Wander Beauty Unlashed Mascara. I had the Mile High Mascara opened and I couldn’t justify opening both at the same time, mostly because I knew I would just used the Unlashed and the Mile High would go to waste.  This is not a lengthening mascara, it is for volumizing and it always makes my lashes look thick and full.  It never flakes off and it lasts all day.  At least this was my impression with the last tube.  Now that the Mile High has joined the empties bin, I could open this one.  You know what?  Wander Beauty’s Unlashed Mascara is just as good as I remember.  I am a very big fan and so happy to have it open on my dressing table once again.

My eyebrows used the Realher eyebrow pencil, partially because I really like it and partially because I just forgot it was in the makeup bag last week and kept it around again. It was a happy accident and I enjoyed using it.  I’ll trade it out this week though.  But rest assure it will be returning.

Also from Realher this week was my lip pencil the shade number is 20218 and called I am Confident.  At first I thought the name was just a motivational slogan.  The shade is a nice neutral that worked really well with both my Lipsticks this week. The first was the Kristofer Buckle Cashmere slip lipstick in Bardot (yes I bought my favorite back out. I couldn’t help it).  The replacements are on the way and I want to use every smidge of this tube before they arrive. Plus, I just love the lipstick. Creamy long lasting and not drying. A clear winner.

The lip liner also went well with my Lorac lipstick this week.  The Lorac is in the shade Breadwinner. Both my lipsticks were neutral shades this week.  I expected to go heavy and dark with the eyeshadow. While that didn’t work out, these are two of my favorite lipsticks so I don’t mind the excuse to use them.

Lip liner on top, followed by Kristofer Buckle in Bardot, Breadwinner from Larac and ending with Black Cherry from Elf (the elf really is more sheer than it appears in the swatch.

And using the Lorac reminded me I wanted to look at ordering one of the new Lorac Pro eyeshadow palettes. I’ve been eyeing the Soliel Pro Palette for a while now. I had one of the original Lorac Pro Palettes a long time ago and it was well used.  Lorac, Urban Decay and Chantecaille used to be the only shadows I kept around.  I had the Chantecaille Luminescent Eye Shades in a couple of singles, one Urban Decay Palette and one Lorac.  I used the Chantecaille shadows down to pan, I replaced the Urban decay but tend to forget about it and my Lorac met with an unfortunate accident during a move. I was very sad. And I kept meaning to replace it.  Now they have a new line out, I will.  I also may keep this Lorac Lipstick in my makeup bag as a reminder to dip into their sales next week.

To complete my lipsticks, I made it a trio and added the Elf Black Cherry Lip Slick to the bag as well this week.  I really like that it gives me a good wash of color without the fuss. It is a great formula and I tend to reach for it throughout the day regardless of what I started out with.  While I thought about getting the whole line, my Elf order proved larger than I thought is was going to be so I just added an extra Black Cherry Lip Slick as back up for this one.

And finally to seal it all in, I added the Laura Geller Spackle Mist setting spray. It is in Coconut water and while slightly coconut-y, it is not a heavy scent and it really set my make up well. Especially after last week’s paint smelling setting spray. It was quite a nice refreshing change.

So that was this week’s makeup bag.  I really enjoyed most of it.  The Primer and the eyeshadow were failures, but everything else I tried worked well for me.  But the primer sample is empty and the eyeshadow palette is being passed along to someone who might enjoy it more. I can’t wait to see how next week’s bag shapes up.

The Make Up Bag: November 13th, 2020

The Makeup Bag Used November 7th – 13th

Welcome to the weekly makeup bag post, where I let you know all about the products I chose t use this week.  There were some repeats this week and there were some new products.  Over all it was a pretty interesting mix.

My foundation product this week was the Hey Honey Trick and Treat CC cream.  I’ve used it before and I thought I had only one more week left in the tube.  I’m pretty sure I have a third week left in it so while it was used, it was not yet used up.  I really like this formula.  It is a my skin but better look that feels like nothing and lasts all day.  It is one that I will be repurchasing once it is empty and I’ve cleared out a few more products from my dressing table. I will probably keep it around this week again just so that I can finish it out.  I don’t want a mostly empty tube to get lost in the bottom of the drawer.  Plus I really liked it, so it isn’t a hardship to have another week with the foundation.

As you may recall from the eyeshadow post yesterday, my eyeshadow this week was a collection of Maybelline singles.  The cream color tattoo shadows were fantastic, the Expert wear shadow was basic, didn’t blend terribly well and only lasted about six hours and the Color strike stick was a complete waste. So the eyeshadow actually ran the gamut.  The Color Strike I dropped into my empties bin as soon as I finished writing up the eyeshadow post yesterday.  It was a relief to pitch it and know it is not lurking with my other singles eyeshadows and giving them bad ideas.

This week I had another Maybelline product in my bag.  I picked it up on a whim during my last venture out of the house and I have to say I really enjoyed using it this week.  It is the Cheek Heat cream blush.  It was really easy to work with.  I was able to sheer it out to just a light pink or build it up to a hardier blush.  As my Foundation was a barely there foundation this week the sheered out version was absolutely fantastic for me.  I like that I can play around and decide what to do with it.  That was fun. It is a product I will keep around and reach for often.

This week the Tarte Park Ave Princess Contour palette remained.  I used the two lightest shads as pressed powder and then used the darker shades as bronzer.  It worked really well for me.  I am glad I kept it out a second week running but as much as I like seeing the pretty palette out on my shelf, I will be putting it back in the drawer this week so that I can use something else. Oddly enough, I think this palette is now only available as it is in one of Tarte’s Vault collections. All of the products are still available, they have just been repackaged into several different forms.

My highlighter this week was the K Voss Shine on stick.  It was a creamy stick highlighter and came to me via my Petit Vour box. I will admit, at first it scared me a bit.  When I applied it, the product looked like an orange stripe.  Then I blended and the highlighter turned into a warm golden glow.  It was subtle and quite beautiful. It did not remain a bright orange stripe, for which I was grateful.  While I started out nervous about it, I ended up loving it and will be returning it to the makeup drawer to be pulled back for another round.

There are a few things that were in this week’s make up bag that will not be returning to the dressing table.  The first is the Wander Beauty Mile High Mascara.  While it was a nice mascara, it isn’t my favorite from Wander Beauty. Personally, I really like the Wander Beauty Unlashed Mascara.  This one was just good but not as good as the Unlashed, at least in my opinion.  The Unlashed mascara is really good, but no one seems to mention it while they rave about the Mile High.  Perhaps it is just my take on the two.

However, this mascara has been opened for six months and I have used it repeatedly over that time. Clearly I don’t mind using it, I just prefer the other.  And now that I have finished this, I can open the currently unopened Unlashed Mascara from Wander Beauty that is in my dressing table.  So yeah, go me!  There is really very little product left in the tube so clearly I felt good using it and now, I feel good about letting it go.

I am a little sad to be letting the Fast Base concealer from Revolution go.  It was a good product and I really enjoyed using it.  The fact that it is a $3 concealer and puts several more expensive ones to shame didn’t hurt.  But there is no more concealer to be found in the tube.  There may be residue on the inside that makes it look like there is more product, but no there is not. I can turn and click all I want but no product issues forth.  Alas poor Fast Base, we knew ye well. I’m pretty sure another one will be picked up in the future.

My loose setting powder and my most used lip gloss both came from Elf this week.  That is the elf translucent setting powder and the Black Cherry lip slick.  Also on my lips this week was the Dose of Colors Stone liquid lip and Sugar Crush in the shade Sprinkle.

This week I set aside my Timeless HA spray and chose a small trial sized setting spray from my dressing table collection.  I went with the Fix it up Matte Setting spray from Kokie.

It sprays well. It smells like paint and gave me a headache if I sprayed it without opening the bathroom door, but it did lock my makeup into place all day.  So it works well, but it really is like shellac to the face. It keeps the paint in place but there is nothing skin care beneficial about it. Now to be fair, they actually make no skin care claims. They just call it a setting spray and claim that is keeps makeup in place. which it does, really well. I think because I just came off using a setting spray that had skin care benefits and smelled like cucumber water from the spa, it was just a rough transition.

I will keep it in rotation until it is used up, although I can’t say I will happily reach for it, because of my darlings, the fumes, such headaches. But I will use it until it is gone and then never repurchase it again.

I also used the Huda Beauty Lip pencil in Trophy Wife and the Real Her eyebrow pencil.  I loved both and would happily keep them in my dressing table and into my make up bag rotation. I am actually starting to be really impressed by Real Her products. I have a face palette (blush Bronzer and highlight) that I have used of theirs that is actually starting to show the metal indents of the pan underneath. which is really rare with me. And the Huda Beauty is just a super creamy formula that makes me want to pick up several lip liners. The Trophy Wife is a good pinkish color. And actually I need to reevaluate all of my lip liners as I am using them more. I recently watched a Lisa Eldridge You tube Video called Makeup tips for Happy lips. So amazing.

I love my bright lipsticks but as the corners of my mouth turn down a little the darker shades make me look a little sad or mad. The video shows a super quick and easy tip for correcting this and I have been playing around with it a bit. I found lip liners really helped me pull off the trick and it also made me realize that most of my lip liners are in similar shades, so I really need to start filling in the gaps and matching some of my favorite shades of lipstick a little better. This weekend, a list will be made. For now we move on. Although i highly recommend checking out her video (linked above).

As my Black cream eyeshadow from Maybelline doubled as my eyeliner this week, I think we have actually reached the end of the makeup bag. There was some good, some bad, some forgotten treasures and some dear friends we must bid farewell until repurchase time. Overall, a pretty good mix. I can’t wait to see what happens next week. Have a good Friday everyone and I’ll see you back here this afternoon for the Friday Facemask.
