The Skincare Line up: February 4th, 2022

Good morning my darlings and welcome back to the skincare line up. Not much has actually changed this week. Most of the products that I started out with last week are still in motion, but let’s take a look at the changes we did have and how i feel about them.

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Malin + Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser

Toner: Kopari Coconut Rose Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Grace and Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Eye Cream: Glam Glow Bright eyes (discontinued)

Moisturizer: Polaar Eternal Snow Youthful Promise Cream

Okay the only change in the morning line up was the eye cream. I finished out the Clarins sample and decided to just use the Glam Glow sample in both the morning and the evening. Part of that is that I want to just go ahead and use up the sample, and part of that is because I really enjoy the product. It is a good eye cream. Also I saw that in my incoming February IPSY bag there is an eye cream and if I finish this sample out I may just roll that one into the line up as it arrives. But mostly, it is just a really good eye cream.

In fact for the most part I like everything. The Malin +Goetz cleanser I’ve used periodically for a long time and always love it, we are rolling into the second straight month of the 111Skin Essence and i still love it. This is only the second week of the Grace and Stella HA Serum and the Polaar Moisturizer, but thus far they are both doing well. The Serum has no scent to it, absorbs quickly and while I haven’t seen any real results yet, it still early. It only takes about three drops to completely cover my face and neck, so this sample bottle will last a while, maybe even long enough to see results. Thus far there are no negative reactions to it.

The Polaar Moisturizer is interesting. As a moisturizer it is fantastic. It absorbs well without leaving me feeling greasy and only takes about a pea sized amount. The scent is very interesting. It is a fairly strong scent but it dissipated pretty quickly after dispensing. It is a clean skin care scent mixed with florals. The part that gets me is that even though my nose picks them up as florals, they are not flowers that I have ever smelled before. So when I apply the moisturizer I have this odd mental slide show going where flowers pop up on my mental view screen and I say no, that’s not it. On the tube it actually says flowers that only grow in the artic regions. As I have never been to the artic regions I know it is not something I am familiar with but I just can’t stop the mental slide show.

The slide show ends as the scent fades so it isn’t a major problem. I think I need to just go on google images and pull up some flowers to add the proper mental slides in for the scent. But that is more of a my bent brain then anything else. I really do like the formula of the moisturizer though. And even though I am using a deluxe size, there is plenty of product in the container. I do have a full sized version, which I will happily use actually, but this sample is going to last quite a while. which isn’t a bad thing. Given that skin care takes at least thirty days to show some effects, I love it when samples are long enough to actually be used for a full thirty days. I think I am getting that with both the Polaar and the Grace and Stella.

The one thing in the morning line up that isn’t really thrilling me is the toner. It works great and I like it, but the scent isn’t pleasant. It is a coconut rose scent and I really don’t think those two scents should be combined. Its a bit like toothpaste and orange juice. Some things need a little more distance between them. I’m going to try to keep using this because it is a good toner, but that scent might honestly cause me to roll another product in, at least for night time use. Great toner, not so great scent. And I know I wasn’t that critical of it last week, but it is one of those scents that just seems to get worse over time.

The Night Time Line Up

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

  • currently this cleanser is 30% off and in my opinion, so worth stocking up

Toner: Kopari Coconut Rose Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Serumkind Purple Cabbage Drops

Eye Cream: Glam Glow Bright eyes (discontinued)

Moisturizer: Kate Somerville Exfolikate Glow Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Yup I am still trying to work through the serum kind drops. I am still not seeing them having any sort of effect, either good or bad on my skin, but using them at night means I mostly remember not to squirt air into the serum. Since one of my IPSY Add Ons this month was a Korres Serum I have been wanting to try out for a while, I made a deal with myself that if I use this serum until my IPSY box arrives, then I can let the Korres jump the line and settle into my skincare. Yes I know it is bribery, but sometimes bribery works. I think it would be different if I hated the Serumkind serum. But I don’t. It is just meh. so I am using up as much as possible so it doesn’t go to waste. And who knows maybe it is doing something fabulous for me that I just can’t see.

the Kate Somerville moisturizer is nice. It is a good night time moisturizer and my skin really does enjoy it. The scent is a bit lemon-tastic and vaguely kitchen cleanser reminiscent. I like it, but I don’t think i like it enough to put it on my repeats purchase list. I think it is one of those products that i will use if it is here and like using it while it is here, but that I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase. It is a good solid cream and great for the winter and at night, but it isn’t OMG fabulous.

The Laneige Lip mask is OMG fab though. I was out in the cold wind, and forgot my chapstick. Predictably lips got chapped. A couple of nights repeating the lip mask, no more chap. I really do like this lip mask. I also need to remember not to leave my chapstick in my jeans on laundry day, but that is an entirely different story.

That is more or less the good the bad and the meh of the week. For the most part it is good. Which is something I always like to say about my skincare routine. Horror stories may make good reading but they don’t make for good skin so I am happy to keep the horror to a minimum. And there was no real horror here. Except for the chapstick in the dryer. RIP little chapstick.

The Skincare Line Up: January 28th, 2022

Good morning my darlings! We have reached my favorite post of the week. The weekly skincare line up. For the next few minutes I get to blather on about skincare to my heart’s content. Focusing on the products I used this week of course. And this week there was a little more separation between the day time use and the night time products which means even more things to talk about. Woot. So let’s see how everything worked.

The Daytime Line Up

Cleanser: Malin + Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser

Toner: Kopari Coconut Rose Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Grace and Stella Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Eye Cream: Clarins Total Eye Lift

Moisturizer: Polaar Eternal Snow Youthful Promise Cream

Oh, my darlings there were some good products in this day time list. First of all there is the grapefruit cleanser. I love the grapefruit scent. It is the perfect way to wake up in the morning. It is invigorating and it is simply a fabulous cleanser. I’ve lost track of how many times I have purchased this cleanser. And I will always repurchase it. I have noticed that my cleanser is getting suspiciously light, suspiciously fast. I suspect my babydoll has been borrowing it. He has a weakness for grapefruit and he commented on the scent this past weekend. Also it isn’t always in the place I left it when I return to my bathroom. He gets up a little earlier than I do and I think he has been using it. Which is fine, I don’t mind sharing, I just think it is a bit amusing.

This Kopari toner is one I go back and forth on. I love the bottle and the spray as the toner comes out. And I find I waste less product with the spray format for toners. In addition, this toner is fantastic. My skin feels soft and well toned with this toner. But that coconut rose is a bit of a strange scent to me. It smells a bit like they couldn’t decide if they wanted to go coconut and rose so they just smacked them together. It is a bit like they poured coconut water into something rose scented to dilute it. It isn’t a bad scent, it just always seems odd when I smell it. The scent isn’t off putting so I have no problem using the toner up completely, but it is just a little odd. It does work really well so that does make a difference.

One of the few products that is a current staple is the 111 Skin Essence. I really like this essence. It makes my skincare routine feel like a spa visit and even better it really does boost the efficacy of the the other products around it.

Those who have read this site before know that I am a huge fan of Hyaluronic acid. It is one of my skin’s BFFs. I picked up this HA serum from Grace and Stella as an IPSY Add-on. Since I only had one serum in my line up, I bumped that to night time use and rolled this in for the day. It is a deluxe sample size But for grace and Stella I have only used masks. I love their sheet masks, and their eye patches I have on repeat purchase lists. I have event tried (and loved) their not sheet masks. But I hadn’t tried any serums from them. I figured since I like HA serums to begin with it would be a nice intro into their other products. I’ve only been using it for a few days, but this far it has been a really good addition to my line up. There is no scent to the serum, I only need about two drops of it and my skin drinks it in. I am actually quite thrilled with this serum. Abd even though it is a sample size, I might actually get a full month’s worth of use out if it given how little needs to be used. We shall see. I certainly won’t complain if it sticks around a whole month.

The Clarins eye cream will not be lasting a month. I put it in the morning line up and this little sample tube is already empty. I think I ended up with three morning uses out of it. The tube felt almost empty when it arrived. This is the second one of these Clarins Eye Lift samples I’ve had and it was the same with the other. I will say I really do like the way the product feels on the few days I got to try it, but I honestly didn’t have enough of a sample to determine any sort of effectiveness. I can say that in the three days of use it didn’t actually clog any pores. And it absorbed well. I like it, I just can’t tell you if it did anything.

And finally we get to the day time moisturizer. This one is interesting because I recieved a sample of the Eternal Snow Cream in one subscription and the full sized one in a different one this month. I’ve tried several Polaar Products and liked them and I have several more in my samples box to try out. I put the sample size of the Eternal Snow in the line up because I figured if I didn’t like it then I could pass along the full sized one un opened. Yeah, that’s not going to happen. I really like this moisturizer. I put it in the morning line up, because I already have a night time moisturizer, but I think this moisturizer could work for both day and night. It has a light floral scent to it, but it mostly smells just fresh and clean. It is a large sample so I am going to happily keep using the sample until it is gone. I will keep rotating sample sized products into the line up until the full sized moisturizer I am using at night is empty and then I will give the full size of this Eternal snow a trial. But after a week of use, I am really enjoying this moisturizer and look forward to a full trial of the full sized version in the near future.

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

As always the Elemis Cleanser was fabulous. While it is a great scent all around, I really like it as a nce scent to unwind and take the day off with. I know the marine collagen line gets all of they hype (and deserved hype at that as they are very good products) but this cleanser really should be talked about more. I love washing my face with this and just letting my bare skin hang out for a bit as I enjoy the clean feeling. And then going back in later with the other products. It just makes my skin feel good. Currently this cleanser is 30% off, which I think brings the cost doen wot $10.80. Quite frankly it is a steal. I have actually been looking at my drawer of cleansers and have been trying to justify picking up another bottle of this. At the moment I have a lot of cleansers to work through so I may not be able to justify it. But I really want to stockpile this cleanser. I really like other cleansers, including the M+G from the daytime line up, but honestly if i had to choose only one cleanser, this would be it. I’ll admit that part of that is because I love the scent of Lime Blossoms but the rest is because it is just such a great cleanser.

I can not be as effusive in praising the Serumkind serum. I’m sure the Purple Cabbage drops do wonders in protecting me from environmental contaminants. And just because I can’t see the effects doesn’t mean they aren’t doing something. But this serum is becoming an annoyance in my skin care routine. It is simply too thick for the size of dropper that they have with the bottle. And I know that it was chosen for aesthetic reasons. And I will be the first to admit that the long slim squared off bottle looks great. I even love the look of the lavender colored serum. But as good as it looks on the shelf, the serum is simply too thick to be effectively pulled into the thin dropper. I have taken to simply removing the dropper and shaking out a bit of the serum onto my hands or use. The issue there is that I often shake out too much serum this way, where as the dropper gives too little. I am starting to find reasons to ‘forget’ to use this serum. I think I might have used it three times this week because I just didn’t want to. I think what I am going to do this week is leave it on the skin care shelf and try to remember to use it, but roll in an additional product that I can use every day and then just use the serum when i feel bad about the waste. That way I will eventually use it all, and get whatever benefits it has without annoying myself every evening as I attempt to use it. I appreciate pretty things, but with skincare it has to be a pretty thing that works. even if this serum works, the pretty, pretty packaging is not helping it out.

The Kate Somerville continues in it’s use. I really like it as a night cream and I am trhilled I rolled in another product to use for the day. This was just too heavy for my skin durihng the day. At night, it is fantastic. The scent is a little lemon cleaner-y, but it isn’t too overpowering and I am willing to continue using it because I like it enough to ignore the scent. And to be honest, the scent is relatively easy to ignore.

The Laneige is my chapped lips savior this winter and I can not praise it enough. The more I use it the more I want to just get multiple scents of it so that I can rotate them around. I am a big fan. I also tend to use it on my lips when I run around with my mask on. Since I have the mask I know I’m not going to eat or drink anything and a little extra masking time for my lips at this time of year is not a bad thing. It is an unexpected benefit of wearing a face mask.

So that my darlings is the line up from this week. There was some good, and one major annoyance. I don’t know why it bothers me so much when product packaging gets in the way of an actual product. I think it is because I know that somewhere, someone made the conscious decision to make all of the bottles the same size and shape for consistency in appearance and for aesthetics’ sake without actually thinking about the product inside. I like pretty things, i do but i am also a big believer in form following function. I think that what just sort of puts me in a ranting kind of mood. I apologize for the rant, and hope it wasn’t too much for you. I just couldn’t hold it in. But now I will leave you, calm down as I get to work and then rejoin you later with a much calmer frame of mind for the Friday Face Mask. Until then, have a fabulous Friday.

The Skin Care Line Up: December 23rd, 2021

I know, Some of you are looking at the title and suddenly wondering if you have lost a day. You have not. So take a deep breath and let it out slowly. it is only Thursday. However tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I will not be posting.

So I decided that i would go ahead and put the Skincare line up on Thursday instead. Because it is one of my favorite posts and i didn’t feel like skipping it. I hope you don’t mind.

So Shall we take a peek into the line up?

The Day Time Line Up

Toner: Watermelon Glow Pore Tight Toner from Glow Recipe

Serum/Eye Serum: Terravibe CBD Age Defying Eye Serum with Hyaluronic Acid

Moisturizer: Juice Beauty SPF 30 Oil Free Moisturizer

I know, some of you are looking at the list and thinking, Wait, where is the Essence? Have no fear, it will return next week. Since it’s job is to make the other skincare more effective, I wanted to try a week without it to see how the products performed.

It didn’t affect the cleanser which goes on first. And I have to say the more I use the Elemis Cleanser the more I like it. it is very gentle on the skin and just makes my skin feel fabulously clean. I am a big fan and I know I am going to sound like a broken record by the time this cleanser is done. I apologize in advance. It is just a really good cleanser.

The toner, I am less enthused with than I was last week. I just don’t think this toner is for me. last week i thought it worked well but just had a scent I didn’t like. This week, without the essence, I think it worked less well and had a scent i didn’t like. It is an okay product, but not one of Glow Recipe’s best. At least in my book. They make several really nice products, this just isn’t on my list of ones to repurchase from the brand.

The Terravibe CBD Eye serum I actually really like. In fact the more I use it, the more I like it. Even though it is an eye serum, it can be used on the whole face , neck and upper chest. It is only once a day though so I have been using it as my day time serum. And while it hasn’t been used long enough to show results, my skin really likes it. I love the way it absorbs so quickly and leaves my skin feeling soft. It shows a great deal of promise.

Also showing a great deal of promise as a day cream is the Juice Beauty Moisturizer. It is light weight and absorbs well without being greasy. I was less fond of it at night, but i’ll get to that below in the night time line up. I’ve only been using it for a few days at this point so my thoughts are rather minimal. I’m sure I’ll have more to say as use continues.

So, are you ready for the night?

Night Time Line Up

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

Toner: Watermelon Glow Pore Tight Toner from Glow Recipe

Serum: SerumKind Purple Cabbage drop

Facial Oil: Byroe Fig renewal oil

Moisturizer: Juice Beauty SPF 30 Oil Free Moisturizer

Makeup Remover: Vitabrid Daily C Balancing Cleansing Balm

My opinion of the Elemis Cleanser and the Glow Recipe Toner were the same in the night time as they were in the day. Since the Terravibe was meant to be used only once a day, I finished up my Sunday Riley Vitamin C serum and decided that this Serumkind would work for night time use. Thus far I used it for the first time last night. It is thicker than I thought it would be. More viscus. when you drop it from your hand it takes a long time to let go of the end of the dropper. It also takes a little while to absorb into the skin. For me that isn’t a major issue as I am using it at night. I tend to take my time at night, where as i am often rushing through my routine in the morning. The scent is pleasant and fairly neutral. It smells clean but not like anything I can identify. I actually have nothing to compare it to. I’ll keep trying, but for now all I have is that it is a light , pleasant and swiftly fading scent. Hopefully as I use it more I will have more to report.

The Fig renewal oil I haven’t actually used yet. If you read my post earlier in the week, this arrived in this month’s Boxycharm. As I tried out the Juice Beauty Moisturizer I thought it needed a little something for night time use and since I hadn’t put away the items that came in the Boxy Charm the oil was out so I decided to rotate it in. The fact that I added oil to a line up to help out an oil free moisturizer is not lost on me. I am hoping that adding it in will help make this a day and night time moisturizer. we will see. If not then next week, I may have to just use the Juice Beauty in the day time and pull in a night time moisturizer.

Finally we have the Vitabrid C Cleansing balm. It was opened when I did battle against the silver eyeshadow that didn’t want to go away. It helped, and actually it is a nice cleansing balm. It hasn’t been tested against waterproof items and it was almost defeated by the silver shadow, but it took off everything else well and left my skin feeling soft.

I know, with a lot of new products coming in this week, there were a lot of first impressions to contend with. As I continue to use the products, my first impressions may change and I may like or dislike them. As for now, this is how I feel. Most everything is actually doing pretty good. I haven’t tried the fig Oil and I am just using up the toner, but everything else is working well for me. Or at least as well as can be expected on such short acquaintance. Only time will tell if they are worth using or buying again. I’ll keep you posted.
