The Daily: April 4th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I am starting off this week exhausted. We had company over the weekend. My brother and mother to be exact. I love them both dearly, but neither of them ever stop talking. They also talk over each other and both to you at the same time about entirely different subjects. And they both talk in their sleep. My babydoll heard talking and went into the hallway and looked into the guest room to see my brother completely unconscious talking to the ceiling.

The gist seemed to be some piece of equipment breaking down, in case you are interested.

I loved having them and it was great to see them but the constant stream of words was honestly exhausting. When they left my babydoll and I each retreated to different rooms and didn’t talk the rest of the day just because I think we were both talked out. And on my walk this morning I didn’t even turn my ipod on I just walked in the empty park in silence. Well not actually silence. The birds have returned.

Okay that sounded a little ominous. They haven’t returned as in some horror movie type way, it is just spring. Although with the temps plummeting again, you wouldn’t think so. we have a lot of birds and the park was alive with birdsong today. It was actually nice to leave off the head phones and actually listen to nature. I don’t do that often enough. I need to remember to leave off my ear phones more often. Admittedly I can only do it when it is just me at the park. If there are large groups from one of the offices that back onto the walking trail I find myself eavesdropping on their conversations. I don’t mean to but I just can’t help myself, hence the voice blocking music.

For Today’s Makeup I went with simple and easy. The only thing I am currently testing out is the highlighter. I just wasn’t really up for testing today.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum Foundation

Bronzer: Viseart Bronze Noix

Blush: Gold Rush Blush from Benefit Cosmetics

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Storybook Cosmetics Little Briar Rose Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips: UOMA Lip Liner In Angelou with Kinship Lip mask as a topper

Today was super simple. The Tatcha primer always performs beautifully so it is a no brainer to reach for. And No 7 may be my absolute favorite foundation at the moment. Don’t get me wrong there are others that i really like, but this one is the top of the charts. I think I am in general starting to like serum foundations more as a style, but this is a no fail foundation for me. I can put it on in the morning and not worry about it all day. If it is warm, then I may have to do a quick powder pat with my compact, but that is it. And warm is not really on today’s agenda.

the shimmer transfers and drips down the nose, but the mattes are great

Seriously All weekend I thought about how I need to start changing over my wardrobe now that we were in consistently 70s temps, and then last night we had a frost warning and it was 34 when I woke up. That’s the real springtime madness. But moving on.

The viseart is excellent because it is easy to control the level of pigmentation and build it up. It is just a beautiful bronzer and the perfect shade for me. It can go from light natural looks to more glam ones, or as glam as I get these days. And you know I love the Gold Rush Blush. I can’t be the only one though as it is back out of stock on the website. I keep meaning to see if it is one of the pans in a cheek palette. I like a lot of benefit products and this blush has started to get a severe dent in the middle from where I have used it. When I replace it, if it is included in a palette I may go for the palette so that I’ll have other product to play around with and not just stick to my favorite. but I have a few months before I need to get serious about that.

I have less time with my No 7 pressed powder. The pan showing through the product is showing more and soon it will need to be replaced. I have a couple of other pressed powders I want to use up and clear out so I may put off repurchasing it just because I know as soon as I repurchase I will just go back to using it. But I like the way this never looks powdery, especially when I use it for mid afternoon touch ups on summer afternoons.

The Stila Mascara is also rapidly moving into the favorites category. I am a fan of how my lashes look today. and the UOMA lip liner, you know I love.

Which leaves us with the highlighter and the eyeshadow. I grouped them for a reason actually. The highlighter I am having issues blending. It isn’t that it doesn’t want to blend, it is just that you have a limited window for blendability. If you apply it and don’t start blending immediately it is just going to decide to stay where it is. But then thee is a tendency to blend all the way out. I will continue playing with it, but at the moment it is not my favorite liquid highlighter.

The mattes in the storybook cosmetics I love. Today I used the blue tinted silver called Fairies on my inner corner and my cheeks have a bit of sparkle to them that does not come from the highlighter. With Storybook cosmetics I generally love their mattes and don’t care for their shimmers. The problem is I really love their mattes and forget about the shimmers until I apply them. Maybe I need to pair one of my shimmer palates with it and use the mattes from one with the shimmers from the other. Alas, I did not do that today so it looks like I have cried silvery tears. Or it would if I didn’t adjust every time I pass a mirror.

Over all, today was about quick and easy and I chose the products that perform well without me having to think about them, for the most part. while there are many good products, the hero of today’s look has to be the No 7 Foundation. It is quite simply fabulous.

But now it is back to work for me. I hope you are having a great Monday and recovering well from whatever your weekend held.

The Daily: December 16th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings! Today is a wonderful, glorious day. I am dancing and spinning with glee even as we speak. But what makes today so fabulous? I just finished the piece I have been editing. For the last few weeks I have had commas and paragraph points dancing in my eyes.

It has made me somewhat crazy to deal with and it has also increased the pressure around me. But now the editing is done, the new novel is in the system. Tomorrow it will be available for purchase and I will do the full announcement, but for now it is making it’s way through the computer’s system and there is literally nothing else I can do with it.

I have done my best and now everything is beyond my control.

Tomorrow of course I will worry about it and begin to suspect that I missed something vital somewhere along the way. For now I am reveling in the fantastic glory that is a completed novel.

Okay, breathing now. Happy dance becoming tamer.

This morning I went on a short walk. Once this is posted, I will probably go on a much longer walk. Then I will cool down and apply today’s face mask. I chose the Lookatme Raccoon Face Mask today. Mostly because I feel like I have spent the better part of the last two weeks with this same raccoon like expression on my face. I’ve tried the bear mask form this brand but I don’t think I have used the raccoon one. I know it is one of the line Facetory carries and is usually pretty good. This one is moisturizing and at this time of year, that is always a good bet for a face mask.

But before I get to that, I am going on a long walk where hopefully the sun, the wind and the exercises will blow the last of the punctuation fixation out of my brain.

Today’s Look:

Primer: OLE HENRIKSEN Banana Bright Primer

Foundation AoA Prowear Foundation

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soliel

Blush: Ciate London Marbled Light Blush

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Storybook Cosmetics Little Briar Rose Palette

Mascara: ABH Lash Brag

Lips: M2UNYC liquid lip in SOHO

I’ll be honest, while I am still testing out this new foundation, i mostly grabbed products that were easy to work with. I was trying to get the last loose ends tied up and while I wanted to look decent for a later meeting, I didn’t have a lot of extra time. I went for the Too Faced Bronzer because it is darker and this foundation is just a smidge too light for me. the shade issue is easily corrected if I decide that I want to continue using the foundation. I went with the Ole Henriksen primer thought because it is one of the few hydrating primers I like and at this time of year a little extra moisture helps keep everything from looking a little powdery.

Over all I think this look turned out pretty well for me. I’m happy with all of the products I used. I need to remember to reach for the Ole Henriksen primer more actually as it is it’s time of year to shine. I can’t use it in the summer because the banana bright aspect makes me look a little too shiny for my comfort. It works really well in the colder months though. Todays look may have been quick and easy, but I am very happy with the way it turned out and it will stand me in good stead with my late afternoon/early evening meeting. Which is also a good chance to test the longevity of the foundation.

but for now, I am going on a long walk to allow my brain to switch gears. And then, I get to look at the list of other things that need to be completed before I can rest easy and slip into the holidays. Happy Thursday Everyone!

The Daily: December 7th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. Today, my nose is a little less runny and the sneezing is thankfully less. Which means that it is actually just the up and down weather and not an actual cold. Saturday the temps were in the upper sixties to low seventies (I know far too warm for this time of year) but it was warm air pushed in front of a rain storm. The rains came and it is now in the thirties. Such changes always make my nose feel somewhat offended. Hopefully the temps will settle down and we won’t have such major shifts for a while.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

I’m not counting on it though.

Even though the sun has actually started to peek through the clouds, the air is raw and damp and large portions of the walking trail are flooded, so workouts today were again in the sunroom. This time with an actual bit of sun included. I have to say the hand weights and yoga mat from Prosource Fit were a great investment. (they still have a 60% off sale going on right now). I’m not comfortable at the gym right now and sometimes weather prevents the walking trail from being used. I like having the back up of the weights and yoga inside the house.so I can still move a bit even if I don’t get my full work out in.

while I will never really be a gym sort of person, I’ve incorporated daily exercise into my routine for so long at this point that if I don’t at least get a little bit in each day I feel really off balance and twitchy. So it was You Tube Yoga and some workouts with weights today.

This afternoon’s sheet mask is going to be the I’m Lavender Mask Sheet from Tony Moly. I think I’ve used their Hemp mask before but I don’t recall using the lavender one so this will be a fun one to try. Hopefully it will be both hydrating and soothing without being overly floral. I don’t like when sheet masks are overly floral. They tend to make me feel like I should wash my face after, which sort of defeats the purpose of the mask serum in the first place. So we will see how that goes. I’ll let you know on the end of month masking recap.

For now, let’s talk makeup.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Figs and Rouge Blurring Primer

Foundation: KVD Vegan Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush: Rodial Blush Drops

Eyeshadow: Storybook Cosmetics Little Briar Rose Palette

Mascara: Roen Lash Cake Black

Lips: MAC Love me Lipstick in Bated Breath

Glasses: ThinOptics

I forgot to take my reading glasses off when taking the pics. Personally, I love these readers. they are so light weight that they make no dent in the makeup and are super easy to wear. Also the case clips onto the back of my cell phone so I always have them with me. They are the MVP of my work life at the moment. Oh and if you think you may need readers but don’t know the strength, ThinOptics now has a Clarity kit so you can easily find out. My eyes have always been bad so glasses and readers have been a part of my life for a long time. And having readers I like to wear makes me squint less, so it helps with the fine lines around my eyes almost as much as the eye cream. After all not helping them to form is better than fighting the ones already there.

The primer and foundation I’ve been using for over a week now and I will be posting my full reviews on Thursday. The short version is that the primer is good at blurring and the foundation is more full coverage than I would have given powder credit for. In addition it doesn’t look all that powdery when on. Admittedly I used more cream products with it and skipped powder itself most of the time when using it, which helped.

The we have the blush drops. I like cream blushes. well, I like some cream brushes. I’m just not sure i like this one. when the drops are first placed on the skin I thought, that is a bit bright. then I blended it in and thought, where did it go. I added a little more and when blended it looked better. Of course today I think my entire face looks a bit on the pink side, but I’m not sure that is the blush. I certainly didn’t apply it on my nose. I think that might be due to the sneezing.

With the blush, it is a light pigment on the skin that easily blends away. I think I might want to try it with a BB cream to see if it lends itself more to a more natural look. In addition to the color, I am not entirely certain I like the texture of it against my skin. It is a heavier weight than some of my other cream blushes. I may actually swap it out for a different cream blush tomorrow so I can do more of a comparison, but to me it feels a little heavier on the skin. I may play around with it a bit more, but at the moment it isn’t looking like a top product for me,.

The storybook Cosmetics palette I always enjoy using, as long as I stay away with the blues. It is the rosier tones in this palette that I really like. The shades can be a bit powdery so tap off your brush before applying. They do blend well without becoming muddy. However they also tend to fade a but by the end of the day. You will still know you have eyeshadow on after eight hors of wear but it won’t be nearly as vibrant.

It you are interested in the palette, when I went to grab a link for reference I say that it is on sale. Usually it is $55 but right now it is $15. I think several of their other palettes are on sale as well. It is good eyeshadow, just remember to tap your brush and not to expect it to last for a full 12 hours. It’s big drawback is it’s size which is why I have it out as a decorative element rather than in the drawer. It simply takes up a lot of space. The book design is cute though. So at least it looks nice out.

The Roen mascara is a good basic mascara. It works well, but there is nothing spectacular about it. I will happily use this until it is done, but once gone I will see no real reason to repurchase it.

And finally we reach the lips. MAC is a long time favorite for the lips (although there aren’t a liot of their other products I really gravitate towards). This is a great color for me and feels very comfortable to wear. It is one I will continue to use and one that I will certainly replace when it is gone.

So that my darlings was today’s makeup look, the good, the bad, the indifferent. Well maybe indecisive would be a better descriptor than indifferent. either way there are products I love and products I will just use for now.

The Daily: November 1st, 2021

November has arrived in all it’s chilly splendor. The last of the potted plants have been brought in and anything left in the garden has been left to overwinter outside. This weekend we are digging up two of the older flowerbeds. Mostly we are chopping all of the tops off, laying down cardboard and then covering it with very rich dirt and mulch. The cardboard will eventually disintegrate but it will smother the growth below before it does die off. It’s a technique called no dig gardening.

It is also a style that puts many of my subscription boxes to good use. The shipping boxes are actually useful for the cardboard barrier. So it’s less waste at the house. Always a good thing. Plus the bindweed has gotten out of control. I think I could dig all the way to China and still not get all of the roots. This Saturday I will be considering that part of my work out. This past Saturday changed over my wardrobe. That’s right my darlings, the short sleeved summer weight garments are all washed folded and put away. Well in the case of several of them, they had to be trashed.

Okay a lot of my t-shirts had to be trashed. This summer was absolutely brutal. And there comes a point where washing may get them technically clean, but they still are so dingy that they are not worth wearing. And many of them had seen too many summers already. I tended to reserve my older t-shirts for summertime walks. And I wore out a lot this summer. Honestly only a handful survived. I was actually shocked by how many needed to go to the rag bag.

In order to secure replacements for next summer, I am actually contemplating the t-shirt Subscription from Smartass and Sass. They have a great regular subscription box but they also have one for just their t-shirts. I checked the size range and it is pretty wide. It’s only $15.95 per month. I always love their slogans and think that it might actually be a fun way to bulk up my t-shirt collection again. They are the soft touch t-shirts too, which I like.

Of course right now I am loving the soft fabrics I get to use in the colder months. In case you hadn’t figured it out, I am a very tactile shopper. I have several garments in my wardrobe that I’m sure the fashion police would cite be for violation of the visual code should they ever see them, but they feel so soft that I just can’t give them up. I try to only wear the most offensive ones around the house though. It saves my neighbors from eyeball trauma.

Admittedly I will have to be replacing some of those items as well. One of my favorite sweaters has a pulled hole in it and needs to go and another fuzzy one had a hole magically appear after getting out of the wash. I hate to loose either of them, but I did see a couple of sweaters on The Gentle Herd Website that I really want So I am kind of taking it as an excuse. Plus The Gentle Herd actually has my size which is really nice.

But such shopping will have to wait until the last of my holiday shopping is done. I have two more things to pick up. One for my brother and one for my mother’s boyfriend. My brother is actually the hardest one. He just moved into a Tiny House a few months ago and has been working on jettisoning anything that doesn’t fit. Finding something he wants, can use and won’t overly clutter his place is somewhat difficult. But I will figure it out. I will purchase it, wrap it and then work on replacing some of my own missing garments.

Sometimes, you have to prioritize.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Benefit Cosmetic Porefessional Primer

Foundation: Ulta Youthful Glow Foundation Serum Drops

Bronzer/Blush/Highlight/Powder: Cover FX Perfection Face palette

Eyeshadow: Little Briar Rose Palette from Storybook Cosmetics

  • in case you are interested, this normally $55 palette is on sale for $15

Mascara: Roen Mascara

Lips M2U Matte Liquid Lip

Today I was happy to have a new primer. I finally finishe the one I was trying to clear out and reached into the primer drawer to pull one out randomly. Today it was the Porefessional. Always a good one to use and a favorite standby.

The foundation I used was the Ulta Serum Drops. I really like it and have just a little bit left to go before this bottle is empty. It is one that I will replace at some point. I’ll probably be rotating it in for the next little bit as I would really like to use it up. It is a great product, I’ve just had it for a while.

The lip I love and really do need more shades of this formula. I will be looking into that as soon as I clear out a few sample sized products and make space. I know resisting lip purchases is not my strong suit but I am trying to hold out. The Roen mascara is good, not spectacular, but good.

Today was mostly about the Cover FX palette and the eyeshadow. With the FX palette I often forget that I have it. I wanted to use it as I am trying to plan my travel bag for thanksgiving. It is one of the contenders as packing it means I don’t have to pack a lot of individual products. It is quite compact. I’m not terribly certain about the blush, but I do like the other products so it is still a contender. I might play around with it and alternate blushes before I make my decision. Even if I do add a blush it saves a lot of space.

Now to the eyeshadow. I know I took this palette out on Thursday and it has been out since (I really need to clean up my dressing table) The reason I used it today is because I realized I always reach for the same shades. I have three blue shades that I never reach for. So I decided today was the day. I love the color blue, but hate blue eyeshadow. Still I tried them. The Dark blue of Prince was kind of patchy but workable in the end. I love the shades Castle and Fairy but in the end I really don’t like the all blue look. I put the bronze Enchanted over them in the middle of the eyelid to sort of break it up. The shades blended well, but I’ll be honest, every time I pass a mirror I think. nope, gotta take off the blue. I think that the blue shimmers I will use as accents, but that matte Blue (Prince) is just killing me. I love the color, just not on my eyes. Blue eyeshadow is just not for me. Honestly though, Prince is the only color in the palette I wouldn’t really use. Which isn’t a bad commentary on a palette’s color story. I am just not a blue shadow person.

Live and learn, huh?

The Daily: October 28th, 2021

Today has been a nice and calm day if I am completely honest. The weathermen threatened rain, but we have sunny skies and cool temps. Walking this morning was fantastic. It was actually one of those mornings where you forget that you are walking for exercise and just walk because it is just beautiful weather to walk around in.

Which quite frankly is the best way to get exercise in my opinion.

As I’ve worked at my desk today the laundry has chugged along in the background. By tonight I will not only have all clean clothes but the sheets will be freshly laundered as well. There is just something absolutely delightful in that first sleep on clean sheets.

Not that I let them get filthy, but I change the sheets once a week. That first night with the clean sheets always feels glorious. Also since it is cool and dry out, I hauled the comforter out into the sunshine to get a bit of air so the bedroom will smell extra fresh when it is time to turn out the lights.

Somedays it is the little things.

Even though this did take a little bit of time out of my day, I decided it was worth it. Plus I got up early and plan to work late tonight actually. I’ve also worked late the last couple of nights as I get things sorted. Not only is the month ending (which always makes things a bit busy, but the rest of the year is slowly dribbling away.

Well, not so slowly at this point.

As November is about to hit I am looking back over the things I’ve tried this year, making lists of my favorites and trying to pull together a list of products I sampled and want to try out in the full size. I’m going to have to weigh the list against the items I have waiting to try out, but I will share the lists with you. In addition to my normal posts I have some getting ready for the holidays posts coming out as the season of gift buying and personal restocking occurs. As the sales have already started I know that doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. For me the next few weeks will be an eplosion of consumerism. While there is more travel this year a large percentage of Christmas items need to be mailed.

Which means they need to be purchased and wrapped so they can be mailed out in plenty of time to reach their destinations. with the postal service already being somewhat overwhelmed I want to give my items plenty of time to get to their destinations.

So soon a shopping we will go.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer

  • palette madness still going on 50% off many fabulous palettes

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum Foundation

Bronzer: Too Faced Cocoa Contour Palette

Blush and Highlight: Doucce Posh Powder Palette

Powder: Becca Pink Haze

Eyeshadow: Little Briar Rose Palette from Storybook Cosmetics

Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara

Lips: M2U liquid lip

First things first, I have to say I feel a distinct sense of pride. Today I finished the Urban Decay primer. It was a great primer and I loved it, but it has been discontinued so I wanted to use it up and send it on it’s way. And now I have. So long, fare well. I loved you while you were here but now must let you go.

The No. 7 Foundation is one of my favorite drugstore Foundations. There are a couple that I like actually, but this one really tops the list of them. The serum formula really blends into the skin beautifully and as it is suitable for sensitive skin it causes no problems. I always feel like my skin looks extra nice when I put this foundation on. It has a kind of glowy aspect without being a dewy kind of product. It just makes me feel like I have good lighting.

The Too Faced contour palette is an old favorite that I am trying to remember to reach for more often. I like it and I like having the variety of tones, especially at this time of year. My skin is altering tone as my summer tan fdes so playing around with shades sometimes helps me out.

I went with the Doucce palette as well today as it was quick and easy. I am really starting to like this palette. I decluttered the magnetic palette from the brand a while ago because I never reached for it and the shadow shades weren’t ones I reached for. I find myself using all thre of these blushes and all three of the highlights. This palette hasn’t been in my collection long but it is starting to grow on me.

Like the Urban Decay Primer, the Becca Powder has been discontinued. I won’t concentrate as hard on using it up as I did with the primer (I was more worried that one would expire) but it will make frequent trips to my daily look as I work through it. Clearly once it is done it will be gone. I do want to find a new pink toned setting powder that I like as much though. I think that might be my quest for the new year. It seems each year there is one makeup item I go hunting to find. Sometimes I find it, other times I get distracted. we’ll see how this one turns out.

Today I took out the Briar Rose palette from Storybook cosmetics. I don’t reach for this palette enough. The reason is that because it is so bulky I store it in the back of the drawer and forget about it. I need to find a different place for it because every time I use it I realize how much I like it. The colors all suit me and I am very much drawn to them. But the palette format, while lovely to look at is so bulky. I need to maybe use it as a table top decoration so I will reach for it more. Because I really like the shades. I actually thought about ordering more palettes from them to make a little display. Plus i like the formula. I just haven’t gotten around to looking at them. But I do need to reach for these shadows more. I love the color story of the palette and I really like how well the shadows blend. it is a really good palette, especially for me.

The Marc Jacobs mascara is always one of my favorites. Sadly it too is being discontinued. Currently the Marc Jacobs website has it at half price. I have been making an effort not to stock up on discontinued products but with this mascara it is hard. It has been my absolute favorite for a really long time. There are other mascaras that I like, but this has just been at the to f my list for a really long time and I hate to see it go. I may have to actually break my no stocking rule. I am going to try to resist though.

The M2U liquid lip is growing on me actually. The color seemed perfect with the shadows today, but i really like the formula. It is super comfortable to wear and doesn’t dry out my lips or leave lip prints everywhere. It takes a little while to dry down and it never dries down completely, but if you give it five minutes then there will be no lip prints and it will stay in place with out making your lips feel dry. This is definitely a formula I am going to have to look at more and think about picking up more shades.

Over all i am pretty happy with my look today. It is a good work look and feels comfortable enough to wear all day long. Admittedly after my walk the only place I’ve gone is to and from the laundry room, but I like to think that the fresh sheets appreciate the look as well. And even if they don’t, I’m happy with it and that is what counts.

The Make Up Bag: July 17, 2020

The Make up Bag Used the week of July 11th – 17th

This week started out rough in my makeup bag.  The first component in it was a trial sized Foundation sample of Pur’s 4-in-1 Love your Selfie Foundation and Concealer.  I did not like it in the slightest.  The link will take you to the full review should you wish to check it out, but in short wearing it made my skin look worse than not wearing it.

Which is kind of the opposite effect you want your makeup to have. Or at least for me it is.

While I hate wasting product, the remaining product in this little tube is going to the trash. I tried every which way I could think of to make it work, but it is not for me.

The primer I tried with it, didn’t help.  This week’s primer was the Blur Drop Primer by Kaja.  I have never tried anything from the brand before and this was not an encouraging sign.

Primer

The primer is clear, which isn’t actually a problem with me. Several of my favorite primers are clear. This one however was thinner than any of the others I’ve tried and didn’t really blur or fill anything.

It was slick with no hint of stickiness so it had no real makeup gripping capabilities.  When I put makeup over it, the products all ended up looking patchy. In addition, it has a surprising perfume sort of fragrance to it which I didn’t really care for. It was a bit cloying and I’m not really sure fragrance needs to be added to a primer in general.

Since I had several newer products in my makeup bag this week, I went back to my dressing table and played with some tried and true products to see what was causing the issues. After all I would hate to unfairly blame the primer.

But it was the primer.

I ended up rotating it back out and just going with the Pore Professional by Benefit this week since I just got so frustrated with the Kaja primer. Also because I was equally frustrated with the Pur Foundation, I brought back the NYX Bare with me tinted skin veil to replace it. Benefit and NYX worked where Pur and Kaja did not. At least for me.

Benefit Cosmetics: Shop The NEW POREfessional: Hydrate Primer!

My eyeshadow palette this week was from Storybook Cosmetics Fairy Tales line.  It is the Briar Rose Palette.  As I previously wrote a review of it and after checking it, found my thoughts hadn’t really changed, I let the review stand.

I will say that when last I reached for this palette, the weather was cooler and the season was different.  I was wondering what a change in season would do to my appreciation of the palette and I have to say, it really just made me choose different colors.

I found myself using the lighter shades more than the deeper ones (where as before Grimm and Beauty were my natural draws.) Thorn was actually a good all over the lid shade for a quick look. I really liked it. It is a very wearable palette.  While the book format is cute, it does take up a lot of space.  It is a good palette though and space hog or not, I will be reaching for it again.

This week I kept the Ciate Loose setting powder in Everyday Vacay around for another week. The jar is getting low so I am trying to use it up.  I know I have a powder to give a try next week so I will be swapping it out, but I really would like to use this up so it will be returning.  It’s a great product so it isn’t a hardship.

The pressed powder was a new one to me.  It was the Jouer Pressed Mineral powder.  It is a nice powder.  It blends well into the skin and didn’t look powdery or cakey. It was really good when midday shine appeared in the t-zone.

This powder was very good at dealing with the shine through without making my skin feel as though I was just loading it down with powder.  It is a small, sleek design and I could easily see myself adding this to the small makeup bag in my purse for the sole purpose of mid-day mattifying.

The I heart Revolution Fixing Spray remained in my bag this week and slowly but surely I am using it up. I can’t remember when I bought it but it continues to work well and smell nice.  I’m not certain how long fixing sprays last or if they have an expiration date but since it is one of the oldest items in my dressing table I’m going to work on using it up and clearing it out.

This week also saw the return of the Wet’n wild ultimate brow kit, which I Pared with the billion dollar brows Duo Highlight and contour stick.  I still like the wet ‘n wild powders and despise the cream highlighter that comes with the brow kit.

I still like the bdb highlighter while hating the brow pencil that came with that kit. Si the great powders with the good highlight are a good combination. Looking over my collection, I realized I might actually have almost enough wet ‘n wild products to do a full face with the brand.  (the same can also be said about a few other brands) so I may have a few brand only weeks coming up.  I just need to fill in a few of the gaps before I do.

Until then, I still enjoy the wet ‘n wild brow powder.

I had two more returning products this week.  One was the Eyeko London FAT Liquid Eyeliner in black.  I love Eyeko liners.  I have had the regular ones, the skinny ones and the fat ones.  They all glide on smoothly and stay in place all day.  I have not had any problems with them smearing or fading throughout the day.  They don’t seep into fine lines either, which is a trait that should always be encouraged in a liquid eyeliner.

Eyeko: The go-to brand for eyes, focused on our award-winning mascaras, eyeliners & brows.

Another long term favorite returned this week and that was the Kevyn Aucoin The Expert mascara.  It always makes my lashes longer and more defined.  It doesn’t flake or smear and it stays in place all day. And in this heat, having something that won’t run when it hits the summer sun is a fantastic product.  That being said, this morning I picked it up and thought it felt a little light.

I scanned back through my weekly makeup bags and realized that I have been rotating this mascara in a lot in the past couple of months.  I may have to add in a new mascara just to give it a bit of a rest. I will be very sad when it is time to pass this mascara on.

This week I had two band new to me products from Julep.  The first was the So Radiant Diamond Bronzer in medium First off I have to say I really like the packaging.  It is a nice heavy plastic with a mirror inside.

The way it opens means the mirror stays open and is easy to use as well so it is a useful mirror. I had an interesting time with this product.  The first thing I did was to do a finger swatch on my arm to see how pigmented it was.

The swatch barely showed up on my skin. You could tell there was powder but no pigment.  I was a little disappointed but I figured I’d push on.  So I took brush to pan and hoped for the best.

I will say, I did not use a light hand because I saw the swatch.  Yeah, it doesn’t swatch very pigmented with a finger, but the brush picked up a whole lot.  It was really dark on my skin.  So I washed my face and started again. This time, I picked up my usual amount of pigment with the brush instead of trying to compensate for the swatch with a heavy hand.

It applied well and blended easily into the skin.  It was comfortable to wear and lasted all day.  The bronzer worked well with my skin tone although I think I might have to go a shade lighter in the winter time.  I really liked the bronzer.  It also reaffirmed the lessons I was given when I was first learning to apply makeup.  Start light and build.  To that I would add, don’t trust the swatch.

It is time to stock up with Julep this summer. Our Clearance Collection is up to 75% off. But that’s not all. Get an extra 60% off with coupon code “CLEAR60” at check out. Include Free Shipping for orders of $35+. Offer valid though 7-17.

Also from Julep in a smaller but no less sleek and functional package was the blush I used this week. It is a pore minimizing blush in the shade Rosewood. Like the bronzer, it did not swatch well, but having learned my lesson with the bronzer, I started off light and built my look.

This may be one of my favorite blushes.  I dipped in lightly and got color that I could either sheer out or build up to a depth I wanted.  I can’t say I noticed much in the way of pore blurring but it didn’t give me added texture so I was fine with it, especially as the color was fantastic on me. It blended like a dream and stayed all day.

Paired with the bronzer it was a winning combination for me this week.  Again for the fall I might have to get a shade lighter in the blush, but that’s okay.  I don’t mind having multiples of this formula around at all. Both Julep products will be staying in rotation in my dressing table and will more than likely make frequent appearances in my makeup bag in the weeks to come.  I suspect I will end up ordering more products from Julep soon. In case you are interested, they are having a mega Summer clearance sale. I’ve linked it above. Not only are the prices discounted but you get an extra code on top of the discount. I’ll be looking into that this afternoon. I suspect their items will sell out quickly.

This week I also tried the Iconic London illuminator.  The only thing I’ve actually used from Iconic was a setting spray.  I really liked the setting spray.

Liquid highlighters aren’t generally what I gravitate towards as I tend to over do it with product placement.  With this dropper though, I found it very easy to add just a little bit of product to my face.  I could use the rounded end of the dropper to just place a dot or two and then blend it in.

In all fairness, I have to admit, I didn’t think I would like this product.  I ended up really liking it.  The gold tones of the highlighter blended well with my skin and I could easily decide how much or how little I wanted to apply.  It could be blinding or it could be subtle.  I liked that I got to choose.

I don’t think I would like the other shades of this product.  I think the reason I liked the gold so much is that the gold tones really did blend in well with my skin. I also think that this bottle will last me a really long time.  For a good daily look I only needed one drop per cheek which I blended for a good casual look.  I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and pleased to keep this in my collection.

For my three lip products I chose two of my long term favorites and one liquid lip I forgot I had.  The Thrive Causemetics lip gloss in Ashley is one of my go to lip glosses.  I really like the formula and will use it until every last drop is gone.

Also in my favorites is a Nars liquid lip in the shade Paradise Garage.  It is one of my go to nude liquid lips.  I love the Nars formula.  It gets dry but it never dries down all the way so your lips never feel desiccated.

It dries down just enough that you don’t leave glaringly obvious lip prints everywhere (although it takes a few minutes).  You do leave a few little smudges but not many, especially with the lighter shades.  With this formula the darker the shade the less it seems to dry down. At least in my experience.  I haven’t actually tried every shade.

(Top to Bottom): Paradise Garage from NARS, Thrive Causemetics Lip gloss in Ashley, and Stila in Rubino: and yes I swatched the gloss to show it isn’t as glittery as it looks in the tube. It does have some shimmer though.

Finally, I used the Stila Stay all day liquid lip in the shade Rubino.  It is a deep red shade.  When you apply it the first thing you have to do is make sure it doesn’t get on your teeth.  Somehow my first application always does.

Then check your outlines on your lips and make sure it is exactly where you want it. Then blot to remove excess product (because this one always seems to leave a little excess product.  Check your lines (and teeth) again and then let it dry.

Once it dries, it is going nowhere. In fact the next day you will still have a little reddish tinge to your lips no matter what form of makeup remover you use.  Lip scrubs help, but  unless you completely scrub off a layer of lip, the ghost of the shade will remain the following day.

It isn’t bad though.  I hid it under the Nars nude the next day with no problems.  Just be aware they aren’t joking when they say stay all day. It dries down really well, but after it dries down, I tend to forget I’m wearing it.  It is quite comfortable to wear and I didn’t have any problems with over drying of my lips.  This is one of those products I need to remember I have more often so I wear it instead of shoving it into a drawer and forgetting. Stila is one of those brands for me in general though. For a long time I had a lot of Stila products and then I just sort of stopped buying them. I can’t remember why though. And I did really like this lip.

So that was this week’s makeup bag for me.  There were some old favorites, and some new trials.  There were some clear and often surprising winners from the new, several of which will remain in my dressing table.  There were also a few new products that I now know to steer clear of in the future.

In my book it is often just as important to know what to scratch off the possible purchase list as it is to add more items to it. All in all, a fun and educational week for me.  I hope next week is just as much fun, although I could really do with a less problematic foundation in the next week. Because my Vanity Collection Came in from Kristopher Buckle yesterday, it features heavily in next week’s makeup bag. So if you’ve ever wondered about the brand, or have never heard of them, stay tuned.

I’ll see everyone back here this afternoon for the Friday Face Mask. Until then have an excellent Friday.
