The Daily: July 27th, 2022

Good Afternoon my darlings, I hope your week is going well. Yesterday my babydoll had dental surgery so I spent a large chunk of my day working in the waiting room on a lap top. It was surprisingly productive actually. With the exception of me and one older gentleman reading a newspaper on the other side of the waiting room, everyone else chose to wait in their cars. While it eliminated my sport of people watching, I did get a lot of work done, which was nice.

And the surgery went well.

Today my babydoll is home resting. And my resting I mean he has taken a lot of pain medication and while he is relaxing on the couch he is periodically moving around, mostly to come in and either ask what I’m up to or to tell me something about the show he is watching. I thought he might be lonely so I tried sitting on the couch watching television with him for a bit but he didn’t really want me there. he wanted to sprawl out on the couch and then periodically come in to tell me something so he could stretch his legs.

Which has mead this an interesting work day. Twenty two minutes seems to be the gap between visits. Occasionally it will be twenty five and occasionally eighteen but it seems to average out to twenty two minutes. I’m sure if you ask him tomorrow then he will claim he only came to ask me a few direly important questions once or twice during the day. And a week from now he will claim that when he is ill or hurting he just wants the space to be left completely alone. That seems to be his mental picture of himself. It isn’t reality, but it is the version he likes.

Today there was no walking and while I have gotten up from my desk a lot more today, I didn’t work in a workout. Tomorrow he is back to work though so I am going to take advantage of the extra work time I used yesterday to plan some extra work outs tomorrow. I’m hoping that will make up for missing today and possibly help to balance things out.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Illamasqua Gel Sculpting stick

Blush: Pixi by Petra Peach Honey Duo

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Palette

Eyebrows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Kit

Mascara: Tarte Gifted mascara

Lips: Wet ‘n Wild Megalast Lipstick topped with Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb

Today I reached for the Tatcha liquid Silk canvas Primer because it was light on the skin and quickj and easy to apply. There is no waiting time really and light and quick was more or less today’s style. Plus I am never upset reaching for a Tatcha primer. It just works beautifully.

The bareminerals also falls into the light and easy category. I like the way it blends and takes down redness, evening skin tone. It does have a bit of a glow-y look. While I am getting more accustomed to this look in the cooler months, in the summer time it just makes me think of sweating so I dust it off with powder. Since my favorite powder from No 7 is at the end of it’s life I am using it all this week so that i can bit it a fond farewell and then repurchase. It is a standard item in my bag. often I have two, one for the makeup drawer and one that stays in my purse. With not going out as much after I finished the one in my makeup drawer I took out the one in my purse to use. (I didn’t want to just leave it there to linger and go bad since I wasn’t going out. I actually transferred all but a lip balm out of my purse actually. The hand lotions and sanitizers I still go through quite rapidly so they stay, everything else has been taken out. which I might need to look at soon since I am starting to go out more than I was so another switch might be eminent. But that is a tale for another time.)

The Illamasqua bronzer is performing well. I chose to use it today because it can be a light touch product. it can also be darkened for drama, but the lighter application works well with the tintes moisturizer level of coverage. It is just enough.

I decided that since i was going light I would take out the Pixi Duo. I like the blush. It isn’t going to be a favorite but it is good for a light look and I don’t mind using it. I don’t care for the highlighter side of the duo, but the blush is nice.

iMethod is my go to brow product. i did hurry today so one is a little lopsided. You need to line up the stencils and not rush that aspect. Once you get that done, you are golden.

Today I switched back to trying out the lunar beauty palette. It is not a highly pigmented formula, however if you tap off the brush before applying the product then there is also no fall out. which is nice. I will be playing around with this for a while as I try to figure out how it performs and how i feel about it.

Tarte makes great mascara and this is not the first time I’ve used the Gifted clay formula. I really like it. it works well without flaking and is great for everyday use. My favorite tarte mascara is still the Lights camera Lashes but this is still a really good formual and not the first tube of this that has ended up in my makeup.

And finally the lips. I love the Wet ‘n wild Matte formula. It does last a long time and it is comfortable to wear. While it doesn’t dry out my lips in the winter, I have found that if I am spending time in the sun it is best if I put something on top. Today I went with the Fenty Beauty Gloss bomb. The wet n wild doesn’t dry out my lips but if left uncovered the matte lipstick can look a little dry in the summer sun for some reason. With the topper there are no problems.

But now my darlings I must leave you. I have just been asked ‘how crunchy is too crunchy do you think’ and now there is movement in the kitchen. so I am off to point out that popcorn and dental surgery don’t mix. As this is the second time with this conversation i think I might hid the bags of microwave popcorn, keeping them out if sight for a few days at least. Have a great Wednesday.

The Daily: April 13th, 2022

April showers may bring May flowers but around here they also bring thoughts of Ark building. Do you think Lowes will get angry if I ask for a lumber order in cubits?

The rain came in fits and starts yesterday, but today it has settled in for a marathon. Exercise involves me and my Yoga Mat along with hand weights. Which is fine, but being inside all day makes me a little twitchy. It never used to, but then i started incorporating regular exercise into my schedule and it feels strange to leave the walks out. But at this point I think I might need an Ark or at least a rowboat, to get through the park. It looks a bit like a lake.

And there are snakes. A lot of them. (I took an umbrella down to the park just to see if a rainy day walk could be worked in. It could not. And those snakes did not look happy about being washed down stream.)

So indoor yoga and weights today. With a side of twitchy til the rain stops.

Today’s look:

Pre makeup base: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: Yensa BC Full Coverage Foundation with SPF 40

Concealer: Dior Backstage Concealer

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzer stick

Blush: Doucce Posh Powder Palette

Eyeshadow: Tarte Tarteist Pro Palette

Mascara: Blinc Ultravolume Tubing Mascara

Lips: Grande Cosmetics Plumping Liquid Lipstick

Okay we are going to start from the top. I am loving the pre makeup base. It kind of plumps up my skin with moisture before I begin so everything just applies a little better. The Elf Poreless putty is a long time fave and one I consistently repurchase.

This Yensa foundation is from their Skin on Skin line and I can see why, it feels like my skin. It is weightless and applies smoothly with no lines in the product that have to be smoothed out. Yensa sent a foundation brush with this foundation and it is just the perfect combination of stiff and soft with the bristles. I also like the shape. How it performs with other foundations I’ll have to see but it works beautifully with this foundation.

The Trestique is a long time love. It was made even better by now being refillable which cuts down on plastic waste. I for one will happily refill this over and over again.

The Doucce palette is interesting. I reach for it for one blush. The other products I’ll use if it is open, but I will only reach for the one blush in the palette that I like. I’m not sure if that is enough to keep the palette long term, but I love the blush in the shade RSVP and will use it down to pan. Then I’ll feel bad and try and work through the highlighters, which are nice, but not my favorite. If I do repurchase it will just be a single blush.

I took out the Tarte eyeshadow palette because I hadn’t used it in a while. I absolutely love the mattes in the palette. The shimmers are okay but nothing to write home about. but I love the formula of the mattes and as this is mostly a matte palette with a single row of shimmers, I really do need to reach for it more. I tend to use it as a travel palette because it has a hard case and an array of mattes, but I need to think of it when i am not traveling.

With the Grande lips, I came across this sample yesterday and realized it had enough product for one or two uses left inside. I used it today and it ran out so it will be going away. It is a formula I really like. There is a slight pluming to the formula but what I like most is that it dries down almost all the way but not quite all the way. It means that it stops leaving lip prints everywhere but it doesn’t make my lips sand paper dry, which is sort of the best in a liquid lip. But this was it’s last use and it is now going to the empties bin.

And that was todays look. And now I am going to take my umbrella and slog my way to the mail box hoping that the few bills in the box have not turned into a soggy mess. Then I will dry out and get back to my afternoon. I hope whatever you have planned for the rest of the day is simply fabulous.

The Daily: December 9th, 2021

Today my darlings was an interesting one. It was one of those days where it felt as though everything was in constant motion. There was no stopping and no waiting for anything. I think I even took a few of my phone calls while in motion.

It is just the time of year. So much to do and only a handful of days left to do it in before everyone takes off for the holidays.

It means that today I did the five minute makeup. I also used the Klorane Dry shampoo because I had an unexpected video call request right after I got back from my walk. Ah yes, dry shampoo, the emergency hair repair for days when I wasn’t expecting anyone to see me before I jumped in the shower.

As I said, the makeup was also rushed, but i think it came out well, mostly because I grabbed products that I knew were easy.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum Foundation

Bronzer/blush/powder/highlight: PUR 4-in-1 Skin Perfecting Powders Palette

Eyeshadow: No 7 Pink Blossom Eyeshadow trio

Mascara: Tarte Gifted Mascara

Lips M2U NYC Matte Lipstick in Soho

This was the last of the Elf Poreless Primer. I did order a new one on the Black Friday sales because it is a product that I really like to keep around. It is quick to use and completely reliable. And you also only use a little of it so it tends to last a long time. I want to whittle down a few other primers before I open the new on though, but for today, I was happy to use the last of this one. It is great when you are in a hurry.

No 7 also came to my rescue. This really may be one of my favorite drugstore foundations. I pump a bit on to the back of my hand, dab it onto my face and then quickly blend it in with my favorite foundation brush (Master Blender 999 from Bdellium Tools) and I am good to go in a flash. It also really helps that this is a shade that is very close to my natural skin tone so it helps with the blending.

I used No7 eyeshadow as well today. Partially because I like the eyeshadow as it is quick and easy with no fuss. In addition there isn’t much thought I have to put into using the trio. It is pretty simple, bing, bang boom and your are done. Which is actually the beauty of small eyeshadow palettes. I may like having all of the colors, but when I’m rushed, a limited palette actually helps.

Plus it was still out from where I unpacked from my Thanksgiving trip.

Also still out was the Pur Palette. While I like the palette, especially or traveling, it meant that i didn’t have to search for any individual products. the products work well and were quickj to apply.

To finish off the look I chose the M2U lipstick. It is a liquid lipstick formula that is really growing on me and very quickly becoming my instinctive first grab product. The formula is very comfortable to wear and lasts for quite a while.

Today’s makeup look was mostly about speed and ease of use. While there are some days where I like taking my time getting ready and playing with different colors and styles, this wasn’t one of them. I had a limited time to get ready and no time to play around with anything new. Today was about choosing products I could use without thinking too much about them. And honestly, I rather like the look I came up with. Even if it was a bit rushed.

Later this afternoon I plan to actually slow down for a moment with my sheet mask of the day. Todays sheet mask is from Orjena. It is called the Collagen Natural Moisture Mask Sheet. While most of the information is in Korean, the English does say it is a cotton sheet and those are usually pretty comfortable to wear. Hopefully the Collagen will be nice and moisturizing as well. It is a Facetory Mask and while I haven’t used this specific mask before I have used the brand and have high hopes for it.

And it will give me a few minutes to stop and have a breather. Today, that feels like the best reason to actually use a sheet mask. Mental care rather than Skin care. Sometimes, products can serve more than one purpose. I hope whatever your day is like, you take at least a few minutes to breath and allow yourself to regroup.

The Daily: November 29th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend and if you were celebrating an excellent Thanksgiving. We, as usual had far more turkey than we had people. So we had the turkey on Thursday and left overs the entire weekend through. Turkey is not my favorite poultry, so I am pretty pleased to see the end of it. It was fine while it lasted, but it will take another year before I am ready to see it again. For me, I only really eat it on Thanksgiving.

Travel was interesting this year. we made as few stops as possible (we were driving) and went through a lot of hand sanitizer. But it was worth it to spend time with family. There were two MVPS this time traveling: Chomps Chomplings and my ThinOptics reading glasses. I know, it sounds strange to put them in the same category but they were the travel winners. The Chomplings were just enough of a driving snack that I didn’t feel the need to fill up on highly caloric things when we stopped for gas (plus it limited the need to go into the gas station). I actually picked up the last bag of Chomplings the store had before we left. They are having supply issues at the moment. They can be found in stores but at the moment there is no on-lone ordering. I am hoping they resolve this issue soon as I have come to rely on them as afternoon snacks and will soon need to restock. The store near me seems to only carry the original and the Italian Beef so if I want the Cranberry Habanero I have to order it on line. And I always want the cranberry habanero.

The ThinOptics were a life saver during the trip. We had loads of construction along our drive this year and there were a few rerouted roads that weren’t clearly marked. having reading glasses clipped to the back of my cell phone made getting them out to check maps and small signs for connecting roads really helped out. For something that takes up so little space, they made a big impact. They have a sale going on right now so if you are looking into a pair of readers, you might want to take a look. While they look good and feel good on the face, the sheer convenience of them makes them perfect. While this pair was sent to me, I ended up ordering a pair for my mother. She fell in love with them when I was home. The black framed glasses are winging their way to her mailbox even as we speak.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Fig and Rouge blurring primer

Foundation KVD Vegan Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Primer infused Bronzer

Blush: Rodial Blush Drops

Highlighter: OFRA in SOHO

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Oryza Beauty Nude Shimmer and Eyeshadow Contour Quad

Mascara: Tarte Lights Camera Action Mascara

Lips: Girlactic Rose Lip oil

Setting Spray: Peach and Lily Glass Skin Veil Mist

Sunglasses: Tomahawk Shades

Okay today was an exciting makeup day for me. Almost every product was a new to me one. I tried saving up all of the new makeup products from this month’s subscription boxes so i could just have a brand new to me makeup extravaganza. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to do that as it has been so skincare heavy in the subscription boxes.

To cover the non-new products first, we have the Tarte Mascara. I took this home over the holiday and this was it’s last use. It is a great mascara and one that i will be purchasing again in the future. It is a good lengthening mascara. It isn’t great on volume, but it does have length down. The second item recalled into the bag was the No 7 pressed powder. With the powder foundation I didn’t think I was going to need a pressed powder, because usually I don’t. If I hadn’t had the liquid blush, I wouldn’t have used the powder. With the blush, I needed it. But it was a very light dusting and the No 7 is my go to pressed powder.

And now we get into the new stuff. Most of this was first use, so there will be reused throughout the week as I get a feeling for them. So First we have the primer. I have heard of Fig and Rouge but never tried anything from them so this was a new brand as well as a new product. The primer was thinner than I expected and goes on very wet. It tries pretty quickly and seems to be foing a good job under the foundation. Once I got past the almost liquid feel of it, I liked the way it applied. I am happy to give it more chances throughout the week.

I have used an older version of the KVD foundation powder before and I liked it. This new iteration seems to be working just as well as the old. Because it is a powder foundation I had to use my makeup sponge a little more than usual. I generally find that if I apply it with a brush and then go over it with a damp makeup sponge it ends up looking less powdery throughout the day. The trick worked well with the KVD foundation although I did notice that I really need a new makeup sponge. I may actually use this as an excuse to try out the new velvet ones from favy. But that is another story. I will be swapping products around as I get a feel for the KVD foundation and how it performs. And again, I am happy to give it a go. I know it isn’t an entirely new product for me, but it has been quite a long time since I used it. I do love that the container is refillable now, which the old one wasn’t, which tells you how long it has been.

The blush drops are something I am going to have to play around with. The color works for my skin, so it is is just a matter of figuring out the amount to use and the amount of blending that I want to do. Also I need to figure out exactly where I want to place the drop before I start the blending so that my blush is placed where i want it to be. There was a bit more of a sheen then I like from my blush, which is why I called in the pressed powder. with a quick powder pat, all was good. But it had quite the sheen on top which I don’t care for.

The highlighter was from OFRA and it is a lovely gold shade. OFRA always works well and I enjoyed it.

The eyeshadow, I can’t say I am a big fan of. There is one matte in this quad and it was a bit on the patchy side. I had to work with it to smooth it out. It was a nice color when I finished and I was happy with it, but it isn’t my favorite brown. i have this shade in multiple formulas that I like better. this one didn’t wow me. Once in place it stays well, but it was a lot of work for a pretty basic look.

The lip oil was also not a favorite. It is a rose lip oil. It looks pretty in the tube. the scent is nice, if you like rose. I like it in general. The scent is not too overpowering, even when it is on the lips. The issue is the taste. It tastes like roses. Which is not all that nice. I’ve had this problem with rose infused lip products before. I know roses contain excellent properties for the skin, which is why they are used so often in skin care. I enjoy the properties. I even enjoy the scent. I do not enjoy the taste. While this is a nice lip oil, the taste of it means that I am going to have to force myself to use it and in the end probably just look at it and say, isn’t that pretty. I have other lip oils I like and will use more often. I just don’t like the taste of it.

And finally we come to the Peach and Lily Glass Skin Veil Mist. I love the serum from this line and have one actually waiting in the skincare drawer for me to use. This mist comes in a heavy and beautiful frosted glass bottle, has an almost non-existent scent and a very fine mister. With a powder foundation I tend to wear a setting spray more regularly than I do with serum foundations. I am not entirely sure this is a setting spray, but it worked well with today’s makeup and I will probably be reaching to it while using the powder foundation.

There were some good products that I have high holes for and there were some not so good products. It was however very exciting to try out so many new things at once. I’ll be mixing and matching them soon, but it was nice to have a fresh start on some new things.

And now it is back to work for me. The sun tempted me out for a long walk earlier, but now I need to make up the time. The first few days back after a holiday are always crazy and this looks to be no exception. So off we go. I hope the rest of your Monday is absolutely fantastic.

The Daily: November 9th, 2021

Oh my darlings, the aches and pains are fading. Whether they were caused by the booster shot or the excessive use of the pitchfork in the garden bed is irrelevant. What matters is that they are going away. I was only minorly stiff this morning when I got up. I think part of that is the Elemis Muscleease Active Body Oil.(currently 22% off at Lovely Skin) While it is meant to be massaged in, which I did massage it into my arms, neck and shoulders, I also added a little bit to my bath water last night and had a good long soak. I really think it helped. I know it was probably designed for post workout athletic types, but it works wonders on post gardening aches as well.

Since I was feeling better I was able to take advantage of the sun. It may have cooled off a bit, but the weather is still nice and walks feel more like pleasure than work outs. And this week, I kind of need all the help I can get. Our menu plan has gotten a bit off track. We try to have at least three vegetarian nights a week during the week. Since Wednesday is usually a harsh day for my baby we usually end up with something like fish on Wednesday since it feels more substantial and then have meat on Fridays with left overs over the weekend. Of course if we have the good salmon from Vital Source, sometimes we will have that on Friday’s instead of meat. But in general that’s our plan.

In the summer we tend to go for cold vegetarian options and then when the weather cools off we go for warmer vegetarian options. It know, pretty self explanatory actually. The problem is the weather. It has cooled off, but only recently. And sometimes it isn’t quite cold enough for the heartier warm options and sometimes it is too cold for the lighter summer hold overs. So we’ve been sort of wavering on the meal plans. I think it might be cold enough now that we can get back onto the meal plan track. Admittedly i think my babydoll has used the changing weather to justify picking up chicken strips from the grocery deli on the way home. Last night I made vegetarian spring rolls because we decided it was warm enough and he had a rough day and added the chicken strips to the meal.

I’ll admit, I had one. It was good. But it wasn’t the plan. But we talked about it and we are going back to the meal plan. Admittedly I had to show him the budget and point out that our food budget has grown quite a bit with the additional food he picks up. Sometimes you just have to look at the math.

So walking and bringing the meal plan back under control are this week’s goals. Oh and because there are so many sales going on, I am going to try to list the ones I know about with the makeup in my daily posts. I’m sure there are some that i will miss, but I think I’ll remember to mention them more if I tie them in here.

Okay my darlings, lets break things down. I love the Elf primer and it has lasted a really long time. It is $9 and so worth the value. I am reaching the end of the product though and will soon have to purchase another one. And while I have been holding off on picking up new primers as I am trying to use up a few less than favorite ones, I will be repurchasing this one. It is just a great all purpose primer that works well with pretty much all of my foundations.

As for foundations. I still love my Ciate. I keep rolling it in to see if I can get away with this shade as my skin lightens towards the winter months. It worked today, but I think I may only have a few more weeks where it will work, and then I am going to have to order a lighter shade. This is one of the few foundations I don’t mind keeping multiple shades of on hand. I was just hoping I wouldn’t have to. It is a great, weightless foundation that offers good medium coverage. I enjoy having it around.

This is my second day with the No 7 blush and I think I like it. It isn’t super pigmented and it blends really well. I don’t think I coul get away with a brighter pink shade though. This darker pink seems to give me the light flush I want and isn’t too heavy looking. Actually that seems to be kind of the No 7 ‘s makeup thing. I have loved their pressed powder for years and in the last year or so have fallen in love with their foundation. I think part of the reason is that even when it is a foundation it is weightless and subtle on the skin. The blush seems to have that same subtlety of wear.

While we are at it, the eyeshadow too is a lighter weight. Now honestly I didn’t choose particularly rich colors, but I don’t really recall seeing any really bright colors on the rack when i looked. The color arangements seemed perfect for every day looks. Today I actually used just the medium toned pink with a dash of the darker shade along the uper lash line. Given that it is a trio of colors only I’m not going to get major swings in eye looks from it, but this is a lighter look than I did yesterday with the trio and I rather enjoyed it.

As always I liked the Ciate Setting powder. I am trying to finish out the open container, but in all honsety I have a back up containe waiting in the wings. I picked it upon a sale a little while back. So I will be using this one up and I already know I will be using it again. It is a good setting powder that doesn’t look too dry on the skin.

The Tarte mascara is growing on me as well. I liked it when I tested it out, but the more I use it the more I like it. And of course I love the bareMinerals lip products. Actually I’m a fan of most of their mineralist line.

And that was today’s look. I know, it isn’t razzle dazzle, but as today’s outings feature a walk and a lot of time working in front of my computer screen, It doesn’t really need to be. Although I do have a new metallic fil eyeshadow I want to try out as a possibility for my festive looks so soon, my computer screen may be faced with a bit more razzle dazzle than it’s used to. For now though, I am happy with the toned down look.

Plumping the lips

I am a big fan of plumping lip products. Personally, I like the tingly feeling. While my go to is usually a Buxom plumping lipstick, I tend to use the Colourpop Juicy Plumping gloss before applying lipstick. I’ll put it on and let it sit for about twenty or thirty minutes, then I will wipe it off, put on the rest of my makeup and whatever lipstick I actually plan to wear.

Does it make my lips look extremely plumped? No. It does make them slightly plumped though and it makes me feel good. And if I feel good, then I look good. At least in my own mind. Its also why I like to wear pretty underwear out, even if no one at the restaurant or event is going to see it, but that is another story. This is about plumping lip gloss.

The products I use do product a plumping effect. I don’t actually want a massive plumping effect because I really don’t like the caught in a pool drain look. So they give me exactly the look I want. The Buxom and colourpop mostly plup up the lips so they are smoother and lipstick looks better.

In the October BoxyCharm Premium box I received the Maneater Plumping Gloss from Tarte in the shade Buff. For a little over a week I have been using it and trying to get a feel for it.

On a swatch buff is a very pink shade. While pink on the lips it isn’t as in your face pink as it seems on the swatch. That could also be the pinkish shade of my lips helping it blend so the shade may look a little different on you depending on your lips. I know, kind of logical, but sometimes logic needs to be stated so that some where out there some one can roll their eyes and think ‘well, duh’ and have a moment of superiority.

Think of this moment of superiority as my gift to you.

If you go to the Tarte website and look up this lip gloss you will find…

  • volu-plump complex for visibly plumper looking lips
  • nourishing formula smooths look of lip lines
  • wraps lips in lasting hydration, color & shine
  • 1 swipe for sheer shiny color, 2 for a pop
  • jumbo applicator covers lips in a quicki

You will also find before and after pictures of lips. One pre gloss and one post. They look very very plumped. It also looks like the model is slightly compressing her lips in the first picture to make them a bit smaller looking. I too applied the gloss and took before and after pics. In each of these photos I kept my lips relaxed so that you could see the actual effects.

As you can see there is a little smoothing but not massive plumping. The lip gloss does tingle quite a bit, which made me think there would be a more dramatic difference. There is some smoothing.

Mostly, it is a tingly lip gloss. There is no scent to it so if you are looking for a gloss with no scent, this is a good one. It is slightly sticky, as almost all gloss is slightly sticky. However the stick factor is fairly minimal. It doesn’t feel like your lips are glued together.

I really like the doe foot applicator. It is a really big doe foot and it has a divot at the end so that it contours a bit to the lips. The doe foot makes it easy to apply.

The color is sheer and I found that it blended well with other products. I used it over a neutral lip crayon that tended to blend my lips into my face and it gave it enough color that I could wear the overly neutral tone. I used it over a berry shade and it made the berry shade less dark. It is good for slight augmentation to other lip products. It is a gloss and it also makes your lips very glossy.

It wears off with every touch and won’t last through a meal. It leaves smudges on glass rims too. All of that is again expected for this type of product and I would have been shocked if it hadn’t worn off. I was very surprised though that the tingling lasted until the product wore off. There was no tingle at first and then fade away. The tingling sensation was there as long as the lip gloss was on my lips.

But in the end there is one question to ask? Would I repurchase?

Honestly, i don’t think I would. It is a nice lip gloss. And it gives a nice sheer color. I don’t mind wearing it and I will wear it until it is used up. But would replace it. If i was going for a sheer color plumping gloss I would go with one of the Colourpop So Juicy products. They have a wider color range, more plumping action, less stickiness and are much less expensive. If I wanted a plumping lipstick,. I would go with a Buxom product. For me this Tarte Maneater Gloss falls into the good enough to use since it came in a subscription and I now own it, but not something I would purchase on its own.’ I know, I need to get more succinct names for my categories. I’ll work on it.

It is a decent plumping lip gloss, it just isn’t going to make my favorites list. So I will just use it until it is done.

Good afternoon my darlings. Today we are playing a lovely game. It’s called posting between outages. Yes, its a fun one. Actually I can’t complain too much. This time it isn’t weather related. AT&T is moving around the neighborhood today, and possibly for the rest of the week. And what are they doing?

Internet upgrades.

I’m sure it is more technical than that, but essentially they realized that more and more people are working from home, the system was not built for people working from home and they are attempting to upgrade the system to support the people working from home.

So while I wasn’t all that thrilled by the message saying that rolling outages were possible (or that we had a rather large block of one earlier today), I will be happy with the results as it will mean (hopefully) that my internet will go out less frequently in the future.

Its a kind of old neighborhood so the upgrades were sort of needed before the mass work from home influx.

So I’m going to jump into the makeup before another potential loss to service occurs. (which means I just heard the trucks rumbling onto my street).

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer

  • palette madness still going on 50% off

Foundation: Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

Blush: Georgia from Benefit Cosmetics

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Mascara: Tarte Light Camera Lashes

Eyeshadow: KVD shadow in Lolita

Lips: Wet ‘n Wild Megalast lipstick in Cinnamon Spice topped with Tarte Maneater Plumping Gloss in Buff

I’ll be honest today was mostly about trying out the benefit blush with a full on foundation. I really like the Pretty Vulgar foundation. I haven’t worn it in a while as it is too light for summer and well, this summer I tended to stick to tinted moisturizers and BB creams. I do the same every summer. I think I did it more this summer though as I was not really going anywhere I planned to dress up for. And any vent I attended was outdoors so it was just easier.

But now this shade is starting to be wearable again for me, although still on the lighter side. It is a really good formula and one I will actually need to repurchase relatively soon. I think this might last through this winter but it will be used up before spring. Then I will probably hold off repurchasing it until next fall. Since odds are I won’t wear it in the summer. But I like it for when I wear actual foundation. It is a medium coverage foundation. I almost never go full coverage on mu foundation. Medium tends to be my comfort zone.

I specifically chose it to use the blush. I definitely think that the blush is not suitable for the foundation. This is a natural look blush that really needs to be paired with a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer. I just sort of needed to confirm it for myself. Perhaps if I had a paler skin tone, then it would work with foundation, but for me, this is a natural look blush that goes better with BB cream and Tinted moisturizers.

And now I know

Everything else is a standard favorite. You know I love the Trestique bronzing stick. I love that the newer ones are refillable as I am always looking to reduce my waste. No 7 powder is always a staple in my makeup bag and I really like the KVD Shadow for a one and done look. I may have had to work for a bit with the blush but everything else was easy peasy.

Good afternoon my darlings. The weather here has once again turned lovely, although a bit cooler now that the rain has subsided. The waters have receded from the walking trail and I went on a very long walk this morning. It was fantastic.

Last week I started using the Fitbit to track my walks, food and well basic things. This weekend I looked at last week in review, trying to see what I could do better. While I don’t think step trackers are essential for weigh management, they can be helpful tools.

I actually learned something in looking at my measurements from last week. Apparently, my walks burn more calories than I thought they did. Its actually a good thing, but it means some of my basic calculations for calories in/ calories out are a bit askew. This week I am going to try and see if I can get the balance back to my goal intake/output is. As strange as it sounds, if you don’t eat enough then your body kind of locks on to every calorie it can and weight loss slows down. Keeping everything in balance will hopefully help me out in the long run and hopefully make the weight loss more permanent.

At least that is the goal.

It was a quiet weekend here actually. A lot of weekends are here actually. Most of our going out has been curtailed and so we tend to concentrate on working on things around the house. Of course that is also due to the time of year. In the winter we always spend more time in the house so once the weather turns we start looking at making improvements before the winter really sets in. At the moment we are looking at some new sheets and bedding. Usually we end up ordering such things before Thanksgiving and then put them on the bed when we return from Thanks giving travels as our special, let the holidays begin treat to ourselves.

Admittedly we haven’t done that in a while. we started because we had older sheets so we would pick up a new set as we rotated an old one out of use on the bed. Then for a while we had enough newer sheets. So we stopped buying them (obviously). Now we are down to several sets that need to actually be retired from use, so a fresh set is going to be ordered. Once we can decide on the set. Right now we are in the what do you think of these stage where we each look at options and share what we’ve found until there is one we both like.

It’s a process.

Eventually we will end up with a new set of sheets and hopefully a new duvet cover. Ah the things cold weather stirs up. This week we are also airing out blankets and taking inventory.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay’s Optical Illusion Primer

  • Palette madness is still going on with many palettes still 50% off

Foundation: Purlisse BB Cream

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

  • now refillable

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light

Eyeshadow: The Tuscany Palette from Nomad

Lips: Zoeva Lip crayon in Rhea and Tarte Maneater Plumping gloss

Today was the quick and easy look as I planned to spend the bulk of the day working at my computer. And to be fair, beyond my walk, that is where I have been today. And I’ve gotten a lot done actually. I’m actually quite pleased with myself.

The Primer is a discontinued one I am trying to use up and send on it’s way. I am hoping that this will be it’s last week of use, but there is the possibility it might spill into next week.

I love the Purlisse BB Cream formula. It blends beautifully and feels absolutely weightless. It is one of my favorite BB Creams. I know, I have said this a lot. The fact is, it remains true. The Trestique Bronzer and bareminerals blush are quick and easy to use and always work out well for me, so I went with them today. The No 7 Prefect Light powder is actually my favorite pressed powder. I do have several others in my dressing table though so I need to start reaching for them a bit more. Several of them are translucent and in the summertime they give a little too much white to my skin. The No 7 I use is tinted so it sees a lot of use in the summer.

I am still getting a feel for the Man eater gloss but today I layered it over the Zoeva lip crayon. The Zoeva is a little too tan and makes my lips disappear, but it works layered with products. I’m not over the moon with the formula as it is incredibly soft. I plan to use it up and let it go. I won’t be purchasing it or more shades from the line. The jury is still out on the Tarte Plumping gloss.

This Nomad Palette was barely saved from declutter, but I am glad I did save it. The one dark brown shade (Passeggiata) tends to apply patchy but all of the other pans perform quite well. They blend easily and I don’t know if it is the fall tones of the earth shades in the palette, but I find myself wanting to reach for it more right now. So I did.

It was a quick and easy look today and I rather enjoy it. With the exception of the tingling of the plumping gloss (along with it’s slight stickiness), all of the products feel weightless and it is easy to forget that I am wearing makeup at all. Which is not a bad thing as I have other things I’d like to think about when I work. Over all, today was a good selection of products.

Rain and lots of it. Today’s walking mostly involves me moving from the desk to the coffee pot. I did a You Tube Yoga video this morning once it was clear that there would be no walking in the park. Actually by the time I got up this morning it was clear that the park was already flooded. But that is okay. I walked extra in the good weather knowing the rain will fall.

I know, it isn’t often that I act proactively, so I am going to take a moment to bask.

Even if it wasn’t as intentional as it feels right now. I just couldn’t resist the few days of nearly perfect weather we had. But I did also know that it wasn’t going to last so I’m going to count that as forward thinking. And watch my calories just a little bit moe closely today due to the lack of walking trail use.

Hopefully it will all balance out when I step on the scale in the morning.

In case you are wondering, I do only get onto the scale once a week. I find if I do a daily check then because of fluctuations such as water consumption or whatever, then I will drive myself crazy with the personal micro management. Instead I go into the week with a plan for meals and exercise and I keep a few contingencies, in case the rain washes out my walk and I need fewer calories for that day. At the end of the week I weigh in, trying for the same time each Friday and see how my plan worked.

Some weeks are better than others, but at least it means that I’m not freaking out over every 0.2 lbs. I want my weight loss to be something I do to keep myself healthy, not something I constantly obsess about. Although as these posts are often daily logs of what I am doing fitness wise, I can see how it looks a little obsessive. But I try not to make it my main focus.

Right now my main obsession is setting up a First Time Novel Writer’s Workshop type thing. I’m hoping to have it up on my Ten-til-midnight site in January. It is taking up a lot of my time at the moment. But it is a fun obsession. I know I try to keep my writing separate from this site, but I’ll let you know when it is up if you are interested. And possibly even if you aren’t interested. I expect once it is up I will just not be able to contain myself.

I usually try to photograph makeup in natural sunlight, but today, there is just no sun. Today I did what I like to think of as my quick test. Somedays I have loads of time to casually do my makeup. Other days, I am working on the run. For me it is always helpful to know which products I can grab when I have only five minutes to get ready and get out of the door. So I like to do a quick test. Today I gathered the makeup I planned to use, set the timer for five minutes and started putting it on.

So, let’s go through it.

I am still working on the Urban Decay Primer. At this point finishing it has become an actual goal. It might take a week, it might take a month, but I am using this primer until it is gone. I apologize for the repetitive product.

My foundation was the NYX Bare with Me Tinted Skin Veil. While I like this product and will use and repurchase it, this isn’t a product I will use when I’m in a hurry. It requires a little more time to blend in and get rid of the streaks from the foundation brush than many of my other lighter products. I like it and under normal circumstances it is fine. It just takes a bit longer to work with (not heaps, but every second counts in my five minute timer).

The blush worked well with this challenge, partially because I was going lighter and the foundation was just a tinted moisturizer. I love the blush but the shade does dictate what face products I can use it with.

The Lys was harder to work with on the run. It is quite pigmented. I applied it and then spent quite a while taming it down and blending it with a clean blush. Anf part of this is because it was over a tinted moisturizer rather than foundation, but it while I really like the color and formula of this bronzer, it isn’t one I will reach for when i am in a hurry. For that I need a product more buildable than pigmented.

The Lit palette by Colourpop is very easy to use and the shadows are blendable. I like the formula of their shadow pans and really need to look at purchasing more from the brand. I haven’t tried their super shock shadows yet but everyone, including several of you, recommend them so they are on my list. I just need to figure out what colors I need to try. I’m beginning to realize that if I don’t think about it, then the colors I buy are all browns, bronzes and reddish tones. While there isn’t anything wrong with this, I probably should branch out a bit.

If you saw my post this morning then you know the Tarte mascara requires two applications. So I applied the first layer, then did my lips and brows, put away my brushes and other products, then did the second coat. It ran until the edge of my timer, but i still managed to stay in the five minute range.

In general I like all of the products I used today. Some however are not built for speed. I get it, trust me. I’m not really built for speed either. For me though, time sometimes gets away from me and it is noce to know which products I can reach for in a pinch and which ones need more time to work with. The NYX Bare with me tinteds skin veil and the Lys No limits Bronzer, both need a little more time to work with. They are good products, but not ones to reach for when time is pressing.

The Daily: October 20th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. I think I mentioned that this week I started using a fitbit to track steps and calories and all sorts of other good stuff. It has been interesting to see thus far. I have to admit I have been a bit lackadaisical about my calorie count as of late. I haven’t been weighing foods as I used to mostly because I thought I knew most of the foods. And I do. I eat a lot of the same foods repeatedly.

And some foods come with weights attached. For example we just received a package from Vital Choice. we routinely order salmon from them. Actually that is what we are having for dinner tonight. I have the salmon sitting in a mustard based marinade in the fridge as we speak. We are having it with couscous, freshly grilled corn (the last of the summer stuff) and a side salad tonight incase anyone is interested. And because we ordered the salmon, it comes marked with the weight. So it is easy to log as a dinner item.

Other things I used to measure, but now sort of eyeball.

I know, I shouldn’t but I do.

And it turns out my eyeballs aren’t that great at measuring.

I know it is a bit dorky, but I love graphs and charts. So I felt with the fitbit I ought to take advantage of that feature and log as much as possible. And since the graphs look way more official than my handy scrap paper on the desk system, I felt compelled to start measuring again. Also I wanted to see how close to accurate I was. I was anticipating a victory lap for my innate measuring skills.

Yeah, that didn’t happen.

I logged everything in figuring I might as well measure what I’m doing and then see where I need to improve. It turns out I get way more steps than required so I get stars for achievement there. I also drink more water than they recommend, so I think that is pretty good. It turns out I have been shorting myself on calories. I think in part it is because I drink so much water. Because every time I think I am hungry I have a glass of 3water first and then think about what I want to eat. But I think the big culprit is my tendency to round up. If something has 90 calories, I’ll often mark it down as 100, just incase I over eat a little elsewhere. that way I have a little wiggle room. But then the next time I eat the same food I’ll remember it is 100 calories so I’ll mark down 110 to give myself the wiggle room.

Turns out all of my wiggle room add ons added up. So I was shorting myself on calories. I know, that sounds like a good thing, but if my calories consumed drops below a certain mark my weight loss slows down dramatically. So I am going to go back to strict monitoring , especially as we go into the holiday season. This weekend we are stocking up on Halloween Candy for potential trick or treaters. No clue if we will actually get them, but I want to be prepared. The annual candy purchase is what mentally kicks off the holiday food mentality in my world. As soon as the bags come in, my baby starts asking if I can start making some of his favorite winter dishes. And from there we tip straight into the once a year indulgences.

So getting back to measuring things now is not a bad thing. Nor are the long walks in the nice weather. I am sure once the next bout of rains hit, my step count will drop. For now, I am feeling pretty good about it.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer

Foundation: Purlisse BB Cream

  • currently they are having a BOGO 50% off sale on their masks. Personally I like the Matcha green tea one.

Bronzer: LYS No Limits Matte Bronzer

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Georgia Peach

Eye shadow: Sassy Siennas from Dose of Colors

Mascara: Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Mascara

Powder: Smashbox Photo Finish Fresh Setting Powder

Lips: Tarte Maneater Plumping Lip gloss.

Earrings: Mariz Jewelry

Okay with the newer bronzer and blush I wanted to try them out with a BB cream rather than just using them with a foundation. I love the formula of the Purlisse BB Cream. It is one of my favorite BB Creams. The shade I have is just a shade bit too light for me at the moment, which is why I chose the tinted setting powder today. As my tan fades I will be reaching for the Purlisse more and more often. I should actually get another tube in a slightly darker tone, and I probably will this spring, but I want to use up a few products first. Although I might stock up on the black friday sales and just put it away until spring. But for now, I love it.

The Smashbox powder I am mostly just using up at this point. It is a good powder and I like the idea of freshly ground powder, but the dial sticks an if there is anything on my hands then it can be hard to turn. While I don’t have any mobility issues where my hands are concerned at the moment, if you have any issues with your hands, this is a powder you will want to skip. The groves aren’t deep enough to provide much traction. If they adjusted that just a little bit more, it would be easier to turn and this would be a different comment, because it is a good setting powder. However if they deepen the indents it will look less like a camera lens. So in this case it is a failure of packaging more than product.

With the BB cream instead of foundation I could get a better feel for the bronzer. It is more pigmented than I saw yesterday. I have the light shade (Motivate) and it is as dark as I would want to go. yesterday I thought it was more buildable than pigmented. Today, while I’m sure you can build it up to a deeper level, I think it is more pigmented than buildable. I still have most of my summer tan because summer just wouldn’t let go here, but even at my deepest I wouldn’t want anything deeper than this shade. It is a lovely shade though and I really like it. I can also use it year round. I also love the packaging. Thus far it seems to be a good product.

The Georgia blush is also a good product. I love Benefit blushes. This pink shade is light enough that I think I will only be reaching for it when I use something like a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer. Because of the shade it takes a lot of work to make it work with an actual foundation. At least for my skin tone. For a light makeup look I will definitely reach for it and I am happy to have it. I just need to pair it with the appropriate face products. If you have really fair skin, this might be a blush for you as it seems to skew towards lighter skin tones.

The Sassy Sienna palette is not one I tend to reach for often. I need to actually sit down and play with it. Thus far every look I try with it comes out more or less the same. I like the idea of the shade range but there really needs to be some sort of contrasting lighter shade in the palette for me. The formula is fantastic though. I love the Dose of Colors Eyeshadow formula. Highly pigmented and easily blendable. I think that might be why it has made it through so many declutters. I have a couple of singles, but not a second palette from the brand so I think it is a reminder that I like it. But really I need to play around wit it and see if I really want to keep it.

The Tarte Mascara is good. It isn’t very dramatic though. Just a good work a day mascara.

The lip plumper is also a good lip gloss. I am actually really liking it at the moment. It has that lip gloss stickiness to it, but it isn’t too bad and I kind of like the plumping tingle. Surprisingly the color works well on me too. And I have to admit I get a childish chuckle from the lip gloss. I generally have to check the bottom of products to remember the shade names. This lip gloss is named Buff. Without my reading glasses on the print is small enough that the f’s look like t’s so each time I look I think it says Butt. Which seems like a strange name for a lip gloss and makes me giggle just a little. Childish I know, but there it is.

And so that is my makeup for today. As well as the realization that I don’t eyeball measure things very accurately and occasionally have a childish sense of humor. But that’s okay. I have a good handle on my work for the day and a nice salmon dinner waiting for me this evening. Overall, it isn’t a bad place to find myself in mid week.
