The Daily: December 1st, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Can you believe it is December already? It feels like November just evaporated. But then I sort of feel that way about all thirty day months. Add in a holiday and it just shrinks to an eyeblink. I am actually kind of proud of my self and disappointed all at the same time today. Yesterday I restrained myself from walking a lot in the fabulous weather.

I was so proud of myself for being all adult and responsible. Then the weather turned in the night and rain pummeled us from about dinner time last night to the wee hours of this morning. And the temperatures plummeted. So the park is flooded and it is really chilly and windy outside so I am now disappointed in myself for being all adult and not taking better advantage of the sunshine. I know I needed to work instead of walk but as I can’t really walk in the flooded walking trail today, I am a little disappointed in my own responsibility.

I’m sure there is some sort of internal lesson in there, but mostly I am just going to blame the weather forecast (although I should probably have looked at an update before deciding to be responsible and stay working at the desk. So I guess that is on me and not the dopplar radar).Still the work needed to be done.

Today is gray and cold with the wind blowing all sorts of bits of stuff through the air. Which means I will be getting a lot done at the desk and doing an indoor workout today. I actually don’t mind too much as I picked up a cordless jump rope to try out. It has two weighted balls on the ends of the handles rather than an actual jump rope. I took measurements and am committed to using it for a month before I review it. But I kind of like it thus far. I can use it without worrying about the rope smacking into furniture or ceiling fans when i use it indoors. I’m using it in the sun room which has space, but it does take up a lot less space than a regular jump rope when i swing, so it is easier for indoor use. And it is kind of fun too. And let’s face it, workouts are better if you actually enjoy the activity you are doing.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Priming Balm

Foundation: Kristopher Buckle Triplicity Priming Foundation Stick

Blush/Bronzer/Highlight: Marc Jacobs Omega X Three Palette

Setting Powder: Beauty Bakerie Flour Setting powder in Oat

Eyeshadow: Sweet Potato Pie Palette from The Beauty Bakerie

Mascara: Complex Culture Executive Level Mascara

Lips: Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Dead Roses

Today I went with one of my favorite primers, the Tatcha silk canvas. I really just love this primer and I wanted something matte for today as well. I wasn’t really feeling glowy. Plus I have just started getting my skin back to normal post holiday so something with skincare mixed in isn’t a bad idea. It was clear enough that I was okay wearing makeup today, but a little extra help never hurts. (Plus I had a meeting this morning and needed the makeup on for it.)

The Foundation is alas from a company that has gone under. While you may be able to find this foundation at secondary sites, it is no longer being produced. I love this foundation though so I want to use up the last of my product. I am trying to make an effort to roll it in once a week so I can use it up and then send it on it’s way. Since I know I will never be able to get it again, there is the tendoncy to try and hoard it, but I know it will just go bad, so i am using it up while it is still good. With a once during the week and use over the weekends I think I can actually finished it up before the new year.

Again continuing with the theme I used a Marc Jacobs face palette today. I love this palette, especially in the winter. The tones are just perfect for my skin right now. Which is kind of amusing since it smells like coconut and makes me think of summer when I use it. The shades are more winter shades for me. And it’s slim design is perfect for travel. I picked this up from BoxyCharm as Marc Jacobs no longer makes makeup. And I’ll be honest, even though it isn;t in production any more I will keep using this until I’ve either used the products down to pan or it is too expired to use. And then I will still use it as a travel compact for the mirror. I’ll try not to use it too much for these posts since it is no longer in production but I do love it and it will make several appearances throughout the winter.

The more I use this setting powder the more I like it. the slight color is just enough to keep the powder from being blinding and it never makes me look powdery. It also locks my makeup in. Which Is pretty much why you use setting powder in the first place. So two thumbs up.

Today I had fun with the blue shade in the Sweet Potato Pie Palette. why is there a blue shade? No clue. I’m sure it is a pop of color for the orangy-red palette. It does work well with the other tones even if it isn’t pie like and I really liked using it as a psudo eyeliner today. It actually worked really well. I’ll admit I focused more on it than the rest of the eye and I could have blended it better, but I (very stupidly) did the blue first and then thought ‘Oh other shadows yeah lets put them on’. so I was working around the eyeliner effect instead of going the other way around. I will say the shadow worked really well. The brush I used was the Luxie 221 Flat definer if you are interested. It had the short stiff bristles and straight edge that I needed, plus it is wider than my eyeliner brush which gave me a little more control and let me apply in a straight line (which is not really my strong suit. I know there are a lot of you out there who are pros at this, but I tend to reach for the smaller brush as my brain thinks eyeliner and it never works for me when I try to use shadow as liner. Using this brush really helped me out.

I know it isn’t like discovering gravity or inventing the wheel, but I am kind of stoked by this. And yes I will probably be using this trick a lot in the next few weeks as I am so pleased with it. (I apologize in advance.)

Today I remember to use an eyelash curler before applying the mascara and it looked better, I think. The mascara does a good job at lengthening but the eyelash curler really helps it out. This is actually the third of fourth use of this mascara and while that isn’t much I will say that this mascara tube is now messier than a lot of my more well used mascara. For only three or four uses, that is a bit of a mess. I’m not sure how that is going to affect it moving forward. But we will see.

And today I went for the ABH Lipstick I wanted something neutral and this worked. The shade has been eliminated so I am trying to use it up, which sort of made it fit the theme of the day. The formula is fantastic though and I will be picking out more shades from this range. It is a very comfortable formula to wear. And for those interested, it is part of their 50% off sale right now. The link is in the product list above (not an affiliate code). It is just a really good lipstick. I use the traditional bullet style versions. I remember trying and liking the liquid lips from ABH but it has been a while since I purchased any from the brand so I don’t know what the formula is like now. The bullet style is fantastic though.

And that my darlings is me. Even though I groused about not taking advantage of the sun, I am thrilled I have a new to me makeup trick (even if it isn’t that groundbreaking it makes me happy).I’m not entirely sure that balances out, but I suppose the silver lining is the actual productivity. And sooner or later the rain will end and the floods recede. For now, there is more work and a cordless jump rope workout ahead of me. So I will get back to that and let you get back to your day. Have a great one.

The Skincare Lineup: November 18th, 2022

Good morning my darlings and welcome to the Friday Skincare line up. Here we discuss all of the products in my line up and how I feel about them. As you can see we have a couple of changes but most everything is still in motion from last week. Let’s dive in and see how all the products are playing with each other, shall we?

Cleanser (day time): Glam Glow Supercleanse Clearing Cream to Foam Cleanser

Cleanser (night Time): Milk Wash Exfoliating Jelly Cleanser from Beekman 1802

Toner: Elemis Superfood Fruit Vinegar Liquid Glow

Serum (night Time): Ole Henriksen Truth Serum (night)

Serum (day time): Beekman 1802 Collagen Electric Daisy and Peptide Booster (day)

Eye cream: MZ skin Eye cream

Moisturizer: OGEE Velvet Botanical Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu lip mask

I know a lot of this looks similar to the week before but there were some exciting changes this week. Forst let’s look at the cleansers. The Glamglow has been in for a few weeks at this point and I really like it. It’s strength is pulling clogged pores to the surface. It’s weakness is leaving gray charcoal film all over the sink so that it needs to be wiped down after every use. (I wipe it down while I am brushing my teeth actually and it works well, just don’t let it dry).

but for every clogged pore brought to the surface, an exfoliator is needed to send it on it’s way. This week I rolled in the Milk Wash From Beekman 1802. It is an exfoliating Jelly cleanser. And it is a really interesting product to use. It dispenses like a clear jelly and you apply it to a dry face. I remove my makeup pat my skin dry and let my skin dry off completely before I go in with this cleanser. As I take my makeup off after dinner and don’t wash my face until bedtime it works well for me. The cleanser feels almost like a light Vaseline on the skin. It foams up a but when you add water and wash it off. Th9is was it’s first week of use but I can feel that with the one two punch of clearing cleanser in the morning and exfoliating cleanser at night my face is clearer.

You know I love Elemis and you know I love this toner. It works well and I think the scent of it is just fabulous. It’s a bit like a fermented apple cider. So perfect for the time of year and yet still fresh feeling.

With the serums I suppose I could layer them but i tend to like my Vitamin C serums in the night so I just reach for the Collagen serum in the morning and the Truth Serum at night. Even when there is sun out, this Truth Serum is fine for me to use during the day. I’ve used it before and had no sun sensitivity from it. the collagen booster is helping to lock in moisture during the day. It is slightly stick even after it sort of dries down but applying a moisturizer right after it has had time to settle ends the stick factor so that it isn’t a problem. the truth serum doesn’t have any issues with stickiness. It also smells like freshly squeezed orange juice. I suppose that should make me want to use it in the morning but there is something nice about using it in the evening. Both serums work well with the moisturizer I am currently using.

This week I finished up the night cream I was using so I used the OGEE for both morning and night time application. It worked well until about Wednesday. And I think the reason things changed was the central heating. Until now it has only kicked on a few times a night. Starting around Wednesday it kicked on repeatedly during the day and then ran most of the night. The more the heat kicks on the drier my skin becomes. The OGEE moisturizer is a fantastic day cream and I can continue to use it as a day cream, but i am going to need to bring in a night mask at least twice a week if I am to continue using this as my full time moisturizer while the heat is running.

I don;t mind that actually. I am perfectly fine having a day cream and a night cream. In the warmer months it isn’t that big a necessity. It is only in the winter when the temperatures drop and the indoor air becomes dry that I need a day time and night time moisturizer. It is a split that occurs pretty much every time the seasons change. So I will be rolling in a Night mask a couple of times a week until I reach the end of this moisturizer. other than that, I really enjoy the OGEE moisturizer. And I love that it is clean skincare.

I can’t say that I love the MZ Skincare eye cream. It is okay. It isn’t too heavy and I haven’t noticed any real clogging of the pores where I apply it (for me that is an area that gets clogged pores easily) but I haven’t really noticed too much in the way of line plumping of the crow’s feet either. it is still early thought. I am just at the thirty day mark with this eye cream so maybe I will wake up on day 31 with baby smooth skin. It is doubtful of course. I will keep using it until I get back from Thanksgiving (because it is open, small and easy to travel with). After that i will do a bit more of an evaluation.

And then finally we have the lip mask. The Tatcha Kissu lip mask is still working fantastically well. I am trying to finish out the Sephora lip scrub. It is less fantastic. It is one of those products that is okay and if I was trying to get my order up to get free shipping I would add to the cart, but it isn’t something I would specifically go to Sephora to order. It is fine to use if you come across it, just not worth seeking out.

And so that is my skincare line up this week, the good, the not so good and the forgettable. There really wasn’t anything bad, but there were a few fabulous items and a couple I can’t want to see continue on to hopefully show results. And now we dive into the work day that is Friday. I hope you have a fantastic one.

The Skincare Lineup: November 11th, 2022

Ah, here we are again my darlings, the skincare line up, my favorite post of the week. Don’t get me wrong I love the other posts, but skincare is my true love. I can bore people to tears with my discussion. So I save it up and bring it all here. You will notice that I did not put the ExfoliKate from Kate Somerville in the line up this week. I have been using it about twice a week, however i used it this past Saturday and my skin got a bit red and itchy. That hadn’t happened before with the Kate Somerville, but I decided to skip it for a little while while I figure out if my skin just had enough of the product or if it was reacting with one of the newer products in the line up. While several products are still in motion, I did have two new ones enter the line up this week, the Beekman 1802 Collagen Boost and the OGEE Velvet Botanicals Moisturizer. Both are actually designed for sensitive skin and I used them each with no problems. It was just when it came into contact with the Exfolicate that the itchiness happened. So I am going try and figure out what is going on before I use it again. The rest of the products I used all week with no issues whatsoever.

I’ll look into it and get back to you. And I doubt you are using the exact same line up as I am right at this very moment as I am using a random collection of products rather than a set, but I figured I’d mention it in case it comes up with you.

So on to the line up!

Cleanser: Glam Glow Supercleanse Clearing Cream to Foam Cleanser

Exfoliator: Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment (not used this week, due to itchy redness, see above)

Toner: Elemis Superfood Fruit Vinegar Liquid Glow

Serum: Ole Henriksen Truth Serum (night)

Serum: Beekman 1802 Collagen Electric Daisy and Peptide Booster (day)

Eye cream: MZ skin Eye cream

Moisturizer: OGEE Velvet Botanical Moisturizer

Night Time Moisturizer: Tatcha Indigo Overnight Repair

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu lip mask

Okay let’s start with the cleanser. The Glamglow cleanser is really bringing up buried clogged pores. I am actually really impressed with it’s work. It does leave a charcoal film on the inside of my sink so I do find myself wiping it out a bit more than usual, but the cleanser is great at clearing out the pores. And since it is a clearing cleanser, it is nice to have it do what I expect. I think I am about half way through the tube of cleanser. I am thinking of rolling in a second cleanser though, to use in the evenings. I just received an exfoliating cleanser from Beekman 1802 (subscription box) and i am thinking of using that in the evnings and the Glamglow in the mornings. Partially because I am very curious about the exfoliating jelly cleanser, but mostly because i know I am going to need to roll in an exfoliator if I keep using the Glamglow. It just brings too many things to the surface not to have a routine exfoliator with it.So I get to indulge my curiosity and be practical all at the same time.

Fabulous!

I know this is a strange thing to say about a toner, but I really like the scent of this Elemis toner. I know it is mostly about how the products work (and it does work fantastically well) but I really like the scent. Maybe it is because of the time of year. It has almost a fermented apple cider vibe going for it. it is a little lighter and a little fresher, but that is sort of the scent. And I really like the toner. Now that I’ve figured out how hard to press so that I can dispense the product without causing it to fountain. I also like that when it dries down it isn’t sticky. Sometimes toners can leave a little bit of a sticky film on the skin and I like to feel like my toners are taking the last of the nasties from my skin, not adding a layer.

I switched the Truth Serum to night time use because with the brightening toner I didn’t feel like I needed it twice a day. Plus I love this serum and only using it once a day helps it last longer. I’ve used this Ole Henriksen serum before (a couple of times) and my skin always reacts well to it and looks good. I just don;t have a lot of dark spots so using less still gives me the same glowing skin.

It also let me roll in a collagen serum, and while i may not have dark spots, and a terribly uneven complexion (even though I love the vitamin C) I do have a multitude of fine lines. I know, time man, in the end it will get us all. But if I can plump up some fine lines and at least delay the inevitable a little while, I am all for it. The directions for this booster are to either add a drop or two to the moisturizer or to apply it directly for a more powerful boost. I used it on it’s own. Its not that I am looking for a stronger boost, I just don’t like mixing things with my moisturizer. I like layers to my skincare.

I’m sure it would be fine either way, but somehow my brain thinks of the moisturizer as the final layer that locks everything down. And yes, in my mental image mixing something into the moisturizer is like putting holes in the fence. It lets in those pesky free radicals that get in like those rabbits got into my garden.

I know it really doesn’t work that way, but that is my mental picture and so I layer skincare.

I never claimed to be logical.

I do like this collagen booster though. I still have to restrict myself to a drop or too or it is too wet on the skin. I am curious as to how it will work as the level of the product drops lower in the bottle. Itis a very short dropper and a very rounded bottle. But that I will fin out in time. For now, the serum is nice.

The MZ Skin Eye cream is good. I really hate to say this but I would probably like this eye cream more if I didn’t know how much it costs. It is a good solid eye cream. It goes on well and doesn’t clog the pores. Is it my favorite? No. both the Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream ($72 on Dermstore) and the Dr. Brandt DNA Triple Peptide Eye cream ($82 on the Dr. Brandt site) I’ve used in the past are much better eye creams in my opinion. This is okay but not spectacular. It is a $95 eye cream (on Dermstore, it is pricier on other sites). It sort of puts the eye cream in the same playing field as the Periconne MD and the Dr. Brandt, pricewise. Performance wise it is not worth that price. It is a good solid eye cream but not a spectacular one.

I have two moisturizers in the line up this week. This was the first week for the OGEE moisturizer and i did like it. it absorbs well without leaving a greasy film and the aloe and jojoba scent of the cream (very light scent) is a nostalgic one for me. It is a first week of use so there aren’t any startling reveals but it is a good solid moisturizer filled with all sorts of organic goodness that my skin likes. because I am finishing up the tatcha cream i am using as night cream, i have only used this during the day. As the Tatcha sample is empty now I will be using it as my only moisturizer this week. My one concern is that his moisturizer is rather light and has more of a day cream feel to it. I’ll see how it performs this week as a solo act. I may be surprised. I do know that I really like it as a day cream though.

And alas the Indigo Overnight repair cream I have been using as my night cream is now empty. (I do have a second sample size, but I am going to leave it in the drawer for now.) I really did like this. It would definitely be too much to use as anything but a night time moisturizer, but it is actually designed for night time use. As a deluxe sample I was able to use it enough to know that I will pick this up for a full sized trial at some point. I love that it had no scent to it and was just a really good light weight but heavy duty moisturizer. I went to bed looking a bit glazed, but my skin wasn’t sticky and the cream absorbed into my skin rather than the pillow. It is one I will try out for longer.

And of course we finish with the Kissu lip mask. I prefer the original to the tinted and will continue using it until it is done. and then I will repurchase it. It is a great over night treatment and I am fond of the consistency.

And so my darlings that is me today. It is not intensely different from last week as there are a lot of products still in motion. But with skincare, drama is usually something to avoid. At the moment I have a good line up of solid products. Now I just need to keep using them to see if they yield the expected results.

Holiday Gift Sets: Tatcha Skincare

It should come as no surprise that Tatcha Skincare made my list of Holiday sets to look out for this year. I have tried a lot of their products at this point, some of them in the full sized (and on repeat purchase) and some oly in the travel sizes. Since each order from the brand comes with several samples, I actually have almost a full skin care regimen’s worth of samples to use as well. I will end up doing a foil packet skin care day soon actually so i can clear some of them out and decide what I want to purchase in the full size.

My favorite product is of course the Silk Canvas Balm primer. It is makeup with a heavy skincare element and it is one of my favorite products. what I really like about the brand is that in addition to the regular sized products and the samples they give out with orders, you can purchase travel sized deluxe Minis. hat I tend to do is to try something out with the foil packet and then order the deluxe mini so I have more than a day’s worth of product to try out. It not only lets me know for certain if the product will work for my skin but it is also a great way to build your own travel set. While I do have a set of travel kits posts for December, I am mentioning this here because of the first of Tatcha’s Holiday Bundles.

It is the Create your own Gift set option. You choose three of their deluxe minis and you receive a free Cotton Makeup bag to go with them (while supplies last). The items start at $12 and go up, depending on what you choose. while there are a couple of items in the $65 range, most of the items are in the $20-28 range. There are three lip items in this list, both the original and plum Kissu Lip Masks and the Camillia Gold Spun Lip Balm. All three of these are full sized items. The items range from the lip products to serums, moisturizers and even their primers are included on the list. Since the three items are your choice you can lean towards the makeup side with primer, powder and one of the lip products or go into the skincare realm with a cleanser serum and moisturizer. Or you can mix and match, personally I think this is a great way to try items from the brand or to introduce someone you love to some excellent skin care.

If you are looking for full sized items, then Tatcha has you covered. There are many gift sets to choose from. Just choose your skin care type (or the type for the person you are gifting) and go. There is the Plump and Dewy Trio, the Smooth and Clarified Trio, or the Calming and soothing Trio.

Looking for more?

The Hydration set included a variety of the different moisturizers in deluxe mini sizes so you can try them all and see which one is right for you, or you could go for the Protect and prime which not only has both the balm and liquid primers but also the Tatcha Sunscreen and water cream moisturizer. While there are bundles large and small you could go all out and go for the Ultimate Skincare journey with the Tabi Trunk Case.

I have to admit that while I really love all of the skincare items in the kit, I also really like the case as well. I have a weakness for bags. I have occasionally purchased gift sets just because I liked the bag that came with them. This case is fantastic and it is filled with fantastic items. It really is an ultimate skincare lover’s gift.

The Skincare Lineup: November 4th, 2022

I realized after I took the above picture I forgot to add in the Tatcha Lip mask and the MZ eye cream but did grab the two items that I will be rolling in over the weekend, the Beekman 1802 Collagen Booster and the OGEE Hydraganics Velvet Botanical Moisturizer. I did a first use test with the Beekman Collagen Booster and liked it, but forgot to use it this week. With the moisturizer I finished the sample i was using and will be using the OGEE to replace it tonight, so a first use post will be up on Monday, you know, after I actually use it. So think of those two as spoilers for what is coming into the line up next week, i suppose. But let’s jump into the products I used this week.

Cleanser: Glam Glow Supercleanse Clearing Cream to Foam Cleanser

Exfoliator: Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

Toner: Elemis Superfood Fruit Vinegar Liquid Glow

Serum: Ole Henriksen Truth Serum

Eye cream: MZ skin Eye cream

Moisturizer: Tatcha The Dewy Skin cream

Night Time Moisturizer: Tatcha Indigo Overnight Repair

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu lip mask

The Glamglow cleanser really brings up the buried clogged pores. I have actually been really impressed by it. Its a good cleanser in general and then it helps bring things to the surface. It might not be the cleanser I would want to use just before I planned to go to an event because it does pull things to the surface, but if you were planning an event in say a month’s time, i think this would be an excellent cleanser to get your skin ready.

pairing it with an exfoliator has helped a lot with dealing with the things the cleanser brings up. This Kate Somerville is listed as intense and that is what it is. The max time you should have it on your face is 2 minutes and while I did manage to keep it on for two minutes, I was not going to keep it on for any longer than two minutes. My skin was a bit red after but that faded quickly (within a few minutes of rinsing it off). And then my skin looked great after. it looked even better the next morning. I used it Friday evening and then again on Tuesday. I know it says you can use it up to three times a week, but twice a week is plenty for me. I’ll use it again tonight and then again on Tuesday and be pleased with it. This far it has been a really good treatment, especially paired with the cleanser.

Because the cleanser has charcoal in it, the toner pads are never really going to look spotless after I use them. But it is only the hint of charcoal on the toner pads and not left over makeup (just a gray tinge no foundation, blush, lipstick or eyeshadow colors)This Elemis is a really good toner, the thing to remember though is not to press too hard on the top or you can dispense too much product. And put the toner pad on top of the dispenser so you don’t have a fountain. whoile it is a good toner in general, I really like the scent.

One pump of the Ole Henriksen is all I need from the Truth serum. I think it is doing well to brighten my skin. It has only been a week so it has minimal results, but I love that it absorbs so quickly and leaves no sticky residue behind after it dries. It is a little sticky until it dries and then poof no stick and skin that has fully absorbed the serum. I do miss a collagen serum though which is why i will be adding one. (especially since i already have it open).

The last three products are all Tatcha, the lip mask I love and will continue using and repurchasing, the night cream and the day cream. Lets talk about the Dewy skin cream first. It is a lot of moisture. It is thick, rich and hydrating. If you have dry skin your skin will love it. I have normal to combination skin that is entering the dry phase of the year. This is the time of year i can use it. Any other time of the year it is too much on the moisture level. As it is I applied the moisturizer and then had to let it sit. For me it took a while to absorb. It was worth it as my skin felt great after it absorbed, but it was not a quick process. It is the last step in my morning skincare routine so after I applied the moisturizer I could have my coffee and answer e-mails, generally starting my day, but I had to wait for it to absorb before I could apply makeup over it. I did notice that I did not need my pre makeup base of Embryolisse when using this moisturizer. By the time it did absorb and I started my makeup my skin was as hydrated as it needed to be.

I will say though that I did not have this problem when i use the water cream. i know it isn’t much of a problem but it is something to note. while I do like this Dewy cream, I think for me, because of my skin type and absorption time I would use this as a night cream rather than a day cream. My skin lust leans more towards the Water Cream from Tatcha than it does this one. And finding things like that out is why I use the samples to begin with. it lets me know which cream I might want to use in the future. If repurchased this would be a night cream for me, and the water cream a day cream. this sample is now empty though so I will be switching moisturizers this evening.

Speaking of night creams I was using the Tatcha Indigo Overnight repair. I still have some left (as well as a second sample size of this cream) so it will continue into the next week. Unlike most of Tatcha’s other products this has no scent to it. The Indigo cream is thick and it feels thick when applied. However it actually absorbs faster than the dewy cream. I think that something in the Dewy nature of that cream makes it absorb slower. Quite Honestly of all of the tatcha moisturizers i have tried this is my favorite. It is also the one I am mostly likely to buy in a full size. I know they have kits and skincare bundles. I am goin to be looking into them soon (for my purchase and the holiday postings) but I may look seriously at the Indigo line because of this cream. It is the right level of moisture for me at night and it is something I will happily continue using.

And so my darlings, that is my skincare line up this week. Next week there will be a new moisturizer and an added serum, but most of these products will be continuing on. At the moment all of them are performing well. It will be interesting to see how they perform over time and what the actual results will be once they have been used long enough to cause effects. Which is of course one of the reasons I write this post. But that is something only time can reveal. And so we move forward continuing to use the products until all is revealed.

or until I have to send them to the empties bin. But for the line up this week that is all. Have a great Friday everyone.

I wanna Kissu, Plum

While the Tatcha Kissu Lip mask in its original format is one of my favorite lip masks, Tatcha recently came out with a second version of their lip mask; the Limited Edition Tatcha Kissu Lip mask in Plum. It is actually slightly tinted. As we are entering the season of dry lips I thought this would be a good chance to try it out, so I ordered it.

Like the original Kissu Lip mask it comes in a small jar and costs $28.Both the original and tinted versions are the same price and size. If interested, they are also sold as a set for $50. I have been using the original Kissu mask for quite sometime now. Very little of the product is needed and it is a fantastic overnight mask. I apply it on my lips and the product absorbs well. It is a fantastic way to fight off chapped and dry lips.

I have this horrid tendency to pick at my lips when they become chapped so the best thing for me is to not let them get dry and chapped in the first place, so lip masks are one of my favorite things. Used nightly I think the original jar of the Tacha Kissu mask will last at least a year. I have made a dent in the product over time, but like I said so littel is actually needed that it is well worth the price.

So how does this new Limited Edition tinted plum variety stack up?

First the tint…

This subtle hue was inspired by the Japanese plum blossom, which adorns this special jar. Known as ume-no-hana in Japan, these buds signify the coming of spring. They come to life in the winter frost, and have long been associated with endurance, health, and inner strength.

The tint is very subtle. I would call it a lightly tinted lip balm. On the lips it blends into a my lips but better look. I made a swatch on my hand as it is the best way to actually see that there is a tint to the product.

It looks far brighter on the fingertip or on the hand than it does on the lips It has a slightly less jelly like consistency than the original version. I don’t know if it is the tint added to it that does it, but it feels more lip balm and less gel.

It isn’t a major difference, but I did notice that the original felt a little heavier on the lips in comparison to the plum version. If worn at night my lips are softer and well moisturized with both. However i often feel like the original Kissu Lip mask needs to sit over night and be given the time to absorb instead of being worn during the day. The Plum Kissu mask from Tatcha had a more day time feel to it

It seems to absorb just a slight bit faster and is lighter on the lips. I feel like it is the sort of lip mask I want to keep on my dask and apply throughout the day if my lips are in need of a little moisture, where as the original Kissu lip mask I want to keep on my night stand to apply just before bed.

Which quite frankly is perfect for me. we are entering winter and it is the wime to have a go to lip product waiting for my desk. I like having something reliabal in rach that I can put on before I go on my walks outside and something i can add to my lips once I settle down at my dask. I like haveing something that can go over whatever lip product I am wearing and this mask has had no adverse reactions with any of my lipsticks.

With the original mask I would occasionally put it onto my lips after my morning moisturizer and let it sit until I was ready for applying my makeup, then i would wipe it off. With the plum, I applied a light coat and let it sit the same amount of time and didn’t have to wipe my lips before applying lipstick. while the tint in the lip mask doesn’t preclude the Plum Kissu mask being worn at night, I think the lighter formula makes it ideal for day time wear. And for me, I am happy to split duties, wearing the original at night and rolling in the Plum Kissu Lip mask for the day time wear. It makes both products last longer and keeps my lips soft and hydrated throughout the winter. For me, this is a definite winner.

The Skincare Lineup: October 28th, 2022

Last week I had a full line up of the Eight Saint’s discovery kit. There were a few products in there that i liked enough to try out in the full size and at the beginning of the week I used up the last of the products in the containers and rolled in this week’s line up. When I can I like to roll in a product at a time rather than start all new products on the exact same day. I find it keeps my skin from freaking out over too much change and it also helps me know which product or interaction between products is causing any issues if they arise.

So some of these products have had a few more days in the line up than others. In fact last night was my first night with both the eye cream and the night time moisturizer. The eye cream I have had before but the night cream is completely new. still, let’s dive into the line up, shall we?

Cleanser: Glam Glow Supercleanse Clearing Cream to Foam Cleanser

Exfoliator: Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment

Toner: Elemis Superfood Fruit Vinegar Liquid Glow

Serum: Ole Henriksen Truth Serum

Eye cream: MZ skin Eye cream

Moisturizer: Tatcha The Dewy Skin cream

Night Time Moisturizer: Tatcha Indigo Overnight Repair

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu lip mask

While I did a first use review on this cleanser, after a few days I am noticing some effects that I think are based on it’s use. This is a clearing cleanser and has a lot in common with the clearing masks from Glamglow. As I am using it, I am noticing that there are clogged pores being brought to the surface. As some of them are quite deep and I have been trying to bring up for a while, I am quite pleased by this development. I liked the cleanser just for the clean it gave my skin, but I really like this aspect of it.

It is also why I have rolled in the Exfolikate from Kate Somerville. I did a first use of this but then I set it aside as the Eight Saints had an Exfoliator in the kit and I wanted to see how it worked. Now I will be rolling this back in for regular use and I am hoping it works well with the cleanser to clear away some of my deeply clogged pores. It is in the line up, but first use back in the line up will be tonight.

Elemis is one of my favorite brands. Every product I have tried from them has worked well for my skin and I have never had any adverse effects. I am always willing to try another of their products. Mostly because I am positive it will not break me out. This toner has a scent that is like apricot with a vinegar back to it. Given the name that makes a lot of sense. It is a good toner and I really like the dispenser for it. Just remember to put the cotton pad, or reusable round over the the hole in the top before pressing down or the toner will fountain up. I find one pump is all I actually need for the amount of product I need on my face so I imagine I will get a lot of use out of this bottle.

The Ole Henriksen I used for the first time this morning as I was finishing out the serum from Eight Saints. One pump was more than enough to cover my face and neck. This Vitamin C serum absorbs quickly with no stickiness and it is quite a lovely glass bottle on top of that. I think I am really going to get a good use out if this. I think i might roll in a collagen serum to pair with this as well, but thus far, I like it.

This MZ Skin Eye cream I have used before. I received it in a subscription box, tried it, liked it and then set it aside for some reason. I can’t remember what. Since it was open I rolled it back into the line up to use up. This far I am liking it. It is a thick cream. I think it is a little over priced, but I do like that it is a thick cream that absorbs well and quickly into the skin. Who knows, with regular use I may see that it is worth its rather large price tag. For now I am happy using it.

My moisturizer is currently a deluxe sample of the Tatcha Dewy skin. I know and love the Water cream. I have tried the Dewy Skin cream and for most of the year it is too much moisture for my skin. (I am normal to combo skin wise). the Tatcha Water Cream is great for me, but in the winter I find I can only use it during the day and at night it is not enough. With the weather cooling down and the heat clicking on more and more often, this is proving to be a good daytime moisturizer for me right now. The scent is a little strong, but it is a scent I like so I don’t mind. It is the same scent as The Silk Canvas Primer actually. My only issue right now is that it does take a little while to absorb into the skin. I generally find myself finishing with the moisturizer and then letting it settle with a cup or two of coffee before i attempt to put my makeup over it. It is a moisturizer that on me at least needs time to settle in.

I had only one use of this Indigo cream thus far but I do like it. It is fragrance free so if you have issues with scent this might be something to look into. It is a thick cream, but oddly it absorbs faster than the Dewy Cream. I had no issues with it absorbing, My skin drank it in and this morning I was pleased with how soft my skin felt. It was a first use, so my skin could have been just extra dry for the night, but I have no problem continuing to use it and see how it works over time. while this is a deluxe sample, I do have a second deluxe sample that I might just roll into use right after this one. It will clear out some samples and give me a better idea of how the night cream works.

Also I am using the Tatcha samples now so I can get a better feel for them before I dive into their skincare kits. They have several that are available throughout the year, but there are more kits coming for the holidays so I am trying to decide which products I would really like to look at purchasing in the full size.

And finally we round out the line up with another Tatcha product. That’s right, it is the lip mask. I love this lip mask and while in the warmer months I will occasionally skip lip treatments at night, I find using a mask like this every night helps prevent the winter chapped lips. For me this is important because in general I tend to find that i will pick at my lips once they get dry. I don’t do it intentionally, it is something I do when i am working on something else and not thinking. It causes a lot of trouble. So it is is much better for me if they never reach that chapped stage. It is why the nightly lip mask from now until Easter is a key facet of my skincare regimen.

And so my darlings that is me today. Or this week technically. All of these products will be with me going into next week (and beyond actually as they are just started)I am actually quite pleased with how all of them are performing actually so i have no problems continuing to use them. And tonight I will roll the Exfoliator into the routine on a regular basis. And so on we go. Have a great Friday everyone.

The Daily: October 26th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. It has been raining like crazy since I woke up this morning. There must have been wind in the night because there are loads of trees down and a bunch of road closings because of it. I always get a little nervous when I see that and hear the emergency vehicles rolling around. Usually it leads to at least a short power outage for us. We live in a heavily tree filled area and that is just sort of what happens. Usually at this time of year.

Thus far we are fine with no outages so as long as no one cuts something unexpectedly, all will be well. Not t disparage the precision of our work crews but there is always about a 30% chance that something will be cut unexpectedly in our area. At least judging from past years’ outages. But perhaps this year’s crew is more adept. We shall see.

I hear the vehicles but given the rain there is limited power cutting. Which actually might be a good thing.

The rain has brought the temperatures down a little, which is also nice. Yesterday we hit 79 degrees. which is unseasonably warm. The rain at least knocked us back into the low sixties. I think the temps are why my brain keeps telling me it is September. However we have our jack o’ lanterns out and a large bowl of candy is sitting by the door in anticipation of Halloween. It will be interesting to see how many trick or treaters we get this year. Some years are good, other years are bad. I’m just hoping we get enough that we give out all of our candy. It is way too easy to just pick up a piece every time I pass the bowl. which is why I shifted the bowl off of the kitchen table and too the door even though it is only the 26th. I don’t pass it nearly as much and am thus less tempted. Sometimes out of sight really is out of mind.

Today’s look:

Primer: Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer Balm

Foundation: Beauty Blender Bounce Liquid Whip Long Wear Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Colour Veil Gel Blusher

Eyeshadow: Coraline Palette from Revolution Beauty

Mascara: Fenty Beauty Full Frontal Mascara

Lips: Colourpop Lipstick in Band T

Today I went for the Tatcha because it is not only my favorite primer but it tends to be porefilling and this foundation seems to need that. I am testing a sample of the Bounce Foundation from Beauty Blender and I have to say i really do like it. It is light weight and blends beautifully. It is not so great with the fine lines, so use a pore filling primer underneath. Otherwise it looks beautiful on the skin. I think they are in the process of changing the packaging though. The foundation in the square packaging is now half off on the brand website (which is where the above link will take you – plus they have $5 if it is your first purchase so you can get this $40 foundation for $15). The same foundation is now in new packaging on the Sephora site if you are looking for the most up to date format. It looks like they are going with a tube rather than the square.

The Buxom bronzer is light enough that it will stay with me through the winter but the Illamasqua, no matter how much i love it is very much a summer shade. I need to pick it up for the winter in a lighter shade but as my blush drawer is a bit packed at the moment I have not done so. In December I do my makeup declutters to set myself up for the next year and to clear out products I no longer use so i can try new things in the next year, So that will be ordered post declutter.

I used the Coraline palette again today and have actually tried all of the shades. The silver is harder to work with than the others and the shadows are a little patchy, but they can be blended to be less so with a clean blending brush, the patchiness fading. The Silver was just not as silver as I hoped, especially after using the pinkish shimmer. It popped a lot more.

The Fenty mascara is one I have used before. I used it and then got a second one in a subscription box so it has been hanging around and now I am finally opening it. It is okay. It is a very good curling mascara. Curling isn’t really what I look for, but that is it’s strong suit. Otherwise it is okay on length and volume but nothing to write home about. It is a mascara I will use if it is around as an everyday product, but I won’t repurchase. If curling is your thing, you might like this better. For me it is just okay.

And then we have the lips. I am using a colourpop lipstick and I really like it. I wish it was just a shade darker, but I seem to get that with a lot of colourpop lips. They always seem to come just a fraction ligher than I think they are going to be. It is definitely something to remember. But it is a pretty good neutral. And it is currently on sale. Usually it is $10 but colourpop is having a sale so it is now $4.50. I might actually go back and look at other lipsticks for one a shade darker actually.

And that is me today my darlings. It isn’t very out there but it works for me on a Wednesday in the office. I hope that whatever you are doing you are having a fantastic day.

The Daily: October 17th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I have to say it is kind of a relief to be back to work this Monday. Because of everything going on, the house chores were sort of postponed. This weekend they all came crashing down. The last of the gardening for the fall was done and the last of the green tomatoes collected. That sounds very strange to actually say. But our first frost is coming either tonight or tomorrow night and so we stripped the remaining fruit from the plants. we also brought in the last of the paprika peppers. More than anything else we had a bumper crop of these this year. And somehow because of the heat and periods of drought even our sweet paprika has a bit more of a kick than usual.

And it is really very different than the store bought stuff. there is almost a fruity vegetal hint underneath the earthy spice. After growing it, I don’t think I could go back to the slightly spiced red dust that comes in the jar. And this year I certainly won’t have to.

But in addition to getting all of the remaining produce in from the garden I repotted a bunch of indoor plants that needed repotting and I hauled all of the pots outside and gave them all of the plants a good healthy watering before bringing them back indoors for the winter. we have a bay laurel that migrates with the seasons. Out doors in summer indoor in winter. This year the succulents stayed outside for much of the summer as well. They only really had to come in when we had that brief rainy spell mid summer.

But basically the entire weekend was spent moving. In addition to the garden chores there was the resetting of the house for winter. the changing of the blankets and airing out of the ones taken from summer storage. I don’t think I slowed down all weekend. It was necessary but far from restful. On Sunday I relaxed by trying to reorganize my foundation and primer drawer. The problem is the drawer is deep so when I open it, i only see the tops and so just grab the same products. I shifted them to a more shallow drawer and was surprised by how many products there were. Some are close to being empty and others are never been tried. I need to have a good think about what I am using and a possible declutter to follow. But it did lead me to my foundation today. I’ll get into that below. You may notice that this is a brand heavy makeup look today. I couldn’t resist using the Tarte products from the boxycharm today. But we’ll get into that below.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha The Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Yensa Super Serum Silk Foundation

Bronzer: Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess Chisel Palette

Blush: Tarte Breezy Cream Blush in Pink Sky

Highlight: OFRA Highlighter in Blissful

Setting Powder: Anastasia Beverly Hills Loose setting powder

Eyeshadow: Tarte Sunrise Eyeshadow Palette

Eyeliner/brightener: Tarte Double Take Awake

Mascara: Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Mascara

Hair Pins: Dragonflies from the Coraline Collection by Revolution Beauty

I do love this primer. It may be my all time favorite to be honest. There are others I like a lot, but this Tatcha Balm style Primer always tops my best of list. At this point I know how it works as well so it was perfect to use with the foundation today as well.

Today i chose the Yensa Silk Foundation. I’ll be honest, I thought I didn’t like it. To be honest I don’t think I gave it much of a chance. I think I used it once or twice and decided it wasn’t as fabulous as the BC foundation and set it aside. Today I really liked it. I think part of it may be the weather. I think this is just not a hot weather foundation. Most actual foundations don’t seem to be hot weather foundations, at least where i am concerned. Now that the weather has cooled, I am finding I really like this. I went in light with the foundation which seems to be the trick. It now feels weightless. I did notice that with the brush there were some streaks left in the product so I just went back in with a makeup sponge and it blended out beautifully. I think I may have to play around more with this foundation.

The Tarte Park Ave Princess Palette is discontinued sadly. It is a lovely palette though and I will use it until it is all used up. the bronzer is still available so I’ve linked that above. I haven’t reached for this in a while because quite honesty Tarte slipped from my mind. But I do love this palette. It always makes me feel special to use it and the products work well for me.

This was my first use of the Tarte cream blush. It does give more of a natural finish than expected. I thought it would be more pigmented. That is not a complaint actually. It is buildable and I didn’t notice it peeling up any of my foundation when i applied it. I think the trick with cream blushes is to first apply them before setting your foundation with powder and second to dab instead of rub. I applied with my finger and then blended worth a makeup sponge. I think a brush would have damaged the foundation and not done the blush justice. as it is I like it. It isn’t my favorite cream blush, at least at the moment, but i think it is something I can work with and wouldn’t mind reaching for again.

I actually remembered a highlighter today. I went with OFRA and forgot how blinging it can be. I need to remember to go in lighter next time. It is a great highlight though and the pan is huge so it will last forever.

Today I went with the ABH Setting powder. It was in the back of the drawer and I brought it to light. I like applying this with a makeup sponge and then just brushing away the extra. The translucent is a bit white so I can’t use it with lighter foundations as it lightens them just a bit. It works well with slightly darker foundations again because it seems to lighten it up just a touch. I really liked using it today. it is finely milled and didn’t look cakey.

This tarte palette was created for Boxycharm so I just linked to the tarte eyeshadow page for those interested. The formula on this was okay. It isn’t a terribly exciting palette. It is a very basic neutrals palette actually. The dark brown isn’t as pigmented as I like but I love the bronze shimmer. I know surprise. What bronze shimmer don’t i like. It is a good little everyday palette. I just have several very much like it in my collection so it is hard to get excited.

Today I actually used eyeliner. To be honest I was more interested in the brightener. I think I will probably reach for it more often. the eyeliner is nice and worked well. I just don’t wear a lot of eyeliner these days. The brightener is really goo. Creamy and goes in the waterline well. It is the reason I will be keeping this product.

For Lengthening this is actually one of my favorite mascaras. It does nothing for volume so usually I pair it with something that is more volumizing than lengthening, but for lengthening this is a fantastic mascara.

And finally I have the dragonfly bobby pins from the Coraline Collection from Revolution. I am really surprised by how high quality they feel. I couldn’t help but put them in my hair today. Personally I love the way they look. And the set was only $8. Not sure if they are still available but they are quite fabulous. I also got the palette from the collection and I am excited about trying that out soon. But I couldn’t resist the hair pins today.

The skincare Line up: Post travel, October 14th, 2022

This is going to be an interesting post. Normally I review the products in my line up on a weekly basis, assessing how they are performing and how well they work with others. As I took several products already in use with me home for two weeks and then used them this week, instead of an in progress report this is more of a post use break down.

Also you may notice that there are a few products missing from the above picture. The sample sized toner I took with me was finished up and I put the container in the recycling before I left to come home. In addition I finished up the Volition Yaupon Tea Glow Awakening Moisturizer and as the recycling went out yesterday I added it to the bin without realizing I hadn’t taken a picture first.

As for what I planned to take with me, I did plan to take an Elemis Night mask with me, but forgot to pack it and left it on my skincare shelf, so I did not get to use it. that in mind the products I used for the past few weeks are as follows.

Cleanser: Alpha H Balancing Cleanser with Aloe Vera

Toner: Alpha H Liquid Gold and Byroe Bitter Greens Toning Essence

Serum: 35% Vitamin C Perfecting Serum from Allies of Skin

Eye cream: Alpha H Liquid Gold Firming Eye Cream

Moisturizer: Volition Yaupon Tea Glow Awakening Moisturizer

Exfoliator: ESPA Refining Skin Polish

Lip Mask: Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask

First let’s talk about Alpha H. On this trip I not only took the Liquid Gold Toner that I tried before loved and will definitely purchase again, but I also had two other Alpha H products to try out. These were the Balancing Cleanser and and the Firming eye cream. While the eye cream was unopened when I took it with me, the tube was not full of product. I used up the eye cream before the two weeks was up. (only by a couple of days , but generally eye cream takes a while to work through). It was a decent eye cream. It absorbed well and it didn’t clog my pores, both things I look for in an eye cream. I didn’t have enough product to really see any actual effects. There was no scent to it, which was nice and it was a standard white cream.

The balancing Cleanser was likewise fine. It was a full tube of cleanser and there is some left. I will be using it up a I roll in my trial products from Eight Saints (I don’t like to start all new products at the same time, but give them a little ease in with existing products to keep my skin from freaking out). Both of the Alpha H products were fine. The problem was that the third, the Liquid Gold exfoliating toner is fabulous. So I kind of expected more from the other products in the brand. The eye cream and cleanser were both good solid products that work well and I wouldn’t mind using again, but I won’t go out of my way to purchase them. The Liquid Gold Toner I will be repurchasing.

It appears to be their hero product. I feel the same way about the Byroe Bitter Greens Toning Essence. I have tried a couple of serums from Byroe and I have a sample size of a moisturizer I need to try. The serums were okay but that toning essence was fabulous. It did the work of a toner, removing all of the left over makeup from the skin and soothing the skin, but it also opened the pores so they could be ready for more skincare. Or more accurately so that they could make the best use of the skincare that was to follow. It is probably the only product from Byroe that I would go out of my way to purchase again.

And I know that there are two toners on the list but the Alpha H I only used three times a week in the night time line up and the Byroe I used the rest of the time. The exfoliating toner is just too much to be used every day.

The Vitamin C serum from Allies of skin was interesting. It is a waterless serum, wich just means that it looks and feels like an oil. I love the glass pump and the fact that the pump locks for travel. It is good at brightening. It just needs a little time to absorb. It is also very easy to apply too much. One pump is all that is needed to cover the entire face. The bottle is actually still half full so I will use it to phase in my next trial and when the Eight Saints trial is done I will roll it back in to finish out the bottle (I don’t like to keep open skincare that long).

The Volition Moisturizer was fantastic. It was a lightweight water cream style of moisturizer. It was sticky until it dried but then my skin felt soft and hydrated. It worked well for me but I did miss my night mask. In the future I would use it only as a day cream. As it was it would have been fins had I been able to roll in an additional moisturizer a couple of nights a week. It just wasn’t quite enough for night time use once the heaters started to turn on. I don’t think I would have had any problem had the weather not changed season.

The ESPA Refining Skin Polish is a long term favorite. I have purchased this in the full size and I happily use the sample sizes when I travel. It is a physical exfoliator so I only use it once a week. It is very fine grained and gentle on the skin. It washes off cleanly and always leaves me feeling fantastic. For those of you who are signed up for the Winter Fab Fit Fun Box, I think this ESPA Refining Skin Polish is one of the choice items. I don’t know which category it is. I have a seasonal subscription at the moment while I try to decide if I am keeping the subscription long term so I can only choose four out of the six items. I can’t remember if it is in those four categories or something else they may give to me in one of the categories I can’t choose. But it is an item in the box so I am ticked with the possibility of getting a full size of this skin polish in an upcoming box. Even without that, it is a product I will repurchase.

And finally we have the Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask. It is fabulous. I have used it for a while and will continue using it for a while. It is something that will be more important as winter progresses and I need more moisture on my lips. I love putting this on my lips before bed and waking up to soft and hydrated lips.

Most of the products I used are now at the end of their lives, the product used up. I had higher hopes for a few of the products and I found that the products I liked before I liked even more. I will be rolling in the items from the Eight Saints Discovery Kit so next week will be a more brand centric review of skincare. I am kind of looking forward to that. Especially as I have never tried anything from the brand before. But that is next week’s post. For now my darlings, my skincare line up review is complete. There was some good and some so so but nothing really bad. Which is always fantastic to report.
