The Daily: August 9th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. The sun is out, the humidity is high and I am feeling a little bit better today. Well the sniffles still drag on but the headache has abated and this morning my latest test came up negative. Which means I am only dealing with the aftereffects. And hoping they will go away.

I’m afraid that doesn’t translate into much of an exciting day. I thought about a walk and then thought about how wobbly my legs felt and how i didn’t want to be the person collapsed in the heat. there also might have been the irrational fear of being eaten by squirrels. I know they don’t actually eat people but they seem to be swarming in mass numbers in the park this year. either the population swelled or there is a squirrel King consolidating his kingdom. The numbers are kind of out of control.

That and when i pass by they don’t scamper off any more. They sort of stop and stare at me as though wondering why I am passing through their domain and possibly wondering if I have the right permits.

Other than that my day has been spent quietly at my desk catching up on everything that happened last week. I may have been at my desk the beginning part of the week but that really means absolutely nothing. Pretty much anything I did at the start of the week has had to be re done. So let that be a lesson for you if you are trying to power through an illness while working, sometimes the work you do just isn’t worth you being there. Take the sick day. You may have to race to catch up but you won’t be going back to redo things you thought were done prior. I know, it is advice easier to give than to take.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation

Bronzer: Illamasqua Sculpting Gel Stick

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism

Eyeshadow Primer: Sandbar Beauty Eyeshadow Primer

Brows: iMethod Eyebrow Stamp and Stencil Kit

Mascara: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Lips M2U NYC Beauty Matte Liquid Lip

Today I felt better and bundled my hair up onto my head to keep it clear. I thought about earrings but then forgot. The shadows are a bit strange in this one but I am very pleased with how things came out. Admittedly i think i still look tired, but maybe that’s just because I feel that way. Today I used the Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas because i like it and saw it and wanted to use it. The Charlotte Tilbury was a deliberate choice though. I chose it because I like the foundation but I wanted a full heavier foundation to try out the sculpting gel stick on. While yesterday was a full foundation it was a serum one and they are a bit more forgiving. This is a full on cream foundation. It applies well, covers a host of redness and blemishes, wears well and feels light.

It does require both a brush and the final smoothing touch of the makeup sponge to remover lines but if you have a lot of redness this will take it down. It is a good foundation if you know you are going to be spending some time taking a lot of photos. I find I do need to blot after a few hours, but it will stay in place if you are attending a wedding or funeral or other family gathering.

The Illamasqua gel stick didn’t like it. While it blends beautifully with every other lighter face product i used, it didn’t blend as well with a full on cream foundation like this one. while the shadows do exaggerate it a bit you can still see the line in the photos (I took the pic and then worked more on blending it out with my foundation brush so I didn’t look too crazy. but this is what a normal level of blending did.) So I think this stick works better with lighter foundation products.

The bae minerals blush was fantastic. It always is but after fiddling so much with the contour I found its ease of use extra fabulous. It is one of my favorite blushes.

I actually went for the brows today and I am pretty pleased with the way they turned out. I am in love with this stencil. It has earned a permanent place in my makeup bag. even if I trade out pomade I will keep these stencils and the stamping tool. I actually want to get a back up of the tool as it is so useful.

I only sneezed once with the mascara so it was relatively painless and I do like Eyeko. I set aside the new mascara to try in a few days when I can give it an honest evaluation. I know and like how Eyeko works so I used it today.

I also know and love the M2U lipstick. It dries down fast without during my lips to dust and it stays in place. This tube is almost at it’s end so a new on needs to be ordered soon. Perhaps that will be this weekend. After an lipstick declutter.

Which of course brings us to the palette. I used the lid primer again today and the Lunar Beauty Shadows did work better with it. i still had to do a bit of work to get them to do what i wanted. To be honest though, I am not sure it is worth it. I have all of these shades in different palettes in much easier to use forms. These tend to be powdery and just okay looking after you put the work in. I like the look of the palette, but honestly I don’t know how much I am going to reach for it once i have finished testing it out.

And so my darlings that is my look today. It isn’t out there crazy as I was mostly looking at shadow and bronzer bendability. I did remind myself of how much i do like the charlotte Tilbury Foundation though, so that is something. And now it is back to work for me. Have a great one, whatever it is you plan to do.

The Daily: August 8th, 2022

Oh my darlings I have returned. Like Rip Van Winkle I have awoken from my slumber, and I feel just about as creaky too. I was feeling tired on Wednesday afternoon and thought a little nap sounded like a good idea. I woke up Thursday morning with my alarm from my Wednesday nap, visited the restroom, decided the day was not going to work out, let everyone know and then crawled back into bed. Around four in the afternoon on Thursday I got up did another visit to the bathroom, managed to get down a smoothie (Berry from Smoothie box. Usually it tastes fab, but I could taste nothing, I just knew I needed some food in my system and the Monthly order came in, which really saved me). I was up for maybe an hour before going back to sleep. The same process repeated Friday and Saturday. Sunday, I began to feel human again.

Today I feel better still.

I am still at the sitting up in the chair is the limit of my exercise point in recovery, but the fact that sitting up in the chair does not exhaust me is a huge bonus. And i felt like actually applying makeup today even if i couldn’t actually get my fitness plan in. It was at least something normal in my day. Plus today I might actually get a sandwich and some solid food in my belly instead of existing on Smoothie Box Shakes. They are great and really helped me out, but I am actually starting to crave chewing even if I am still not all that hungry.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Elf Poreless Putty Primer

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum Foundation

Bronzer: Illamasqua Sculpting Gel stick

Blush: Benefit Cosmetics Georgia Blush

Powder: Tatcha Silk Setting Powder

Eyeshadow Primer: Sandbar Beauty Eyeshadow Primer

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Palette

Mascara: Give them Lala Beauty Mascara

Lips: Uoma Beauty Lip Liner and KVD Epic Kiss Vegan lipstick

Today I went for the drug store power couple of Elf poreless Putty Primer and No 7 Lift and Luminate. Both are long time favorites. In fact i am not sure why everyone is not raving about the No 7 foundation. It just works beautifully. I always have a bottle in my makeup collection because if all else fails, it won’t. Lightweight and beautiful it actually beats out some of the more expensive foundations. It is actually a bit of a dupe for the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation actually. It isn’t quite as fabulous as the Aqua foundation is a high end foundation that feels high end on the skin, but it is a good drug store version. (The Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation is currently my top luxe foundation, Yensa my mid range foundation and No 7 my favorite drug store foundation, in case you are curious. I tend to save the Koh Gen Do for special occasions though rather than every day use. I know I shouldn’t, but I do. Maybe I’ll just have a luxe product day.)

I wanted to test the Illamasqua sculpt with an actual foundation instead of the lighter weight products I tend to go for in the summertime. and it worked beautifully. It feels wet which takes some getting used to but it blends beautifully and builds well.

I get so used to reaching for my Gold Rush Blush from Benefit that I forget that I have Georgia. I do really like it. It is a little lighter and it does work better when my skin is a little on the paler side, but for me today it worked well. I really like the formula of the benefit blushes. It is also a reminder that I need to look at the newer blushes that were recently released and see if any of the shades look like ones I want to try out.

The Tatcha powder worked like a dream, I am still using the travel size (as so little is actually needed) and I am definitely going to pick up the full size once it runs out.

Since today’s focus was the eyes and the palette, I am going to skip to the lips before going back to the eyes. The KVD lipstick is a great vegan formula, I just find the color to be a little too bright for me. It looks darker in the tube but it goes on lighter. I tend to have this issue with the solid lipsticks from KVD but not the liquid ones. To darken it I used the Uoma lip liner. It worked beautifully and I am happy with the results actually.

This was the first use of the Give them Lala Beauty mascara. It was okay. Not very impressive, but As I sneezed twice during application and had to correct the mess, I don’t think i would be pleased with any mascara today, so perhaps we will just give it a pass.

last week with no lid primer (exhibit A) on left and todays use with the lid primer on right

As you may recall last week I dipped into what I thought was a brownish red shade and found out it was purple. It also applied very patchy. See exhibit A from last week. Today I decided to roll in a lid primer and then try again with the same shade. The Lid primer is from Sandbar and it works well in general. It has a slightly stickiness to it that grips shadows.

And this is a shadow that needed it. while I did apply other shadows on top of it so it isn’t the same look the purple is the basis for both looks. With a lit primer, the shadow applied well. It didn’t stick in one spot and refuse to blend. While this isn’t a shadow shade I would really wear a lot, I think it applied a lot better. Since I have had my issues with this palette, I think i am going to keep the lid primer in this week and see if the other shadows work better with it. I suspect they might given the change in the shadow today. I still am not a huge fan of the way the shimmers work with the mattes, but perhaps that issue can be worked on as well.

And so my darlings, this is me today. I am sitting up and looking fairly productive. Or at least not sleeping. I am still contagious so I am sticking close to home. Or actually in my home. At best i might make it to the back yard later (woo look at me go…) But I am beginning to feel more like myself again and that makes me very very happy.

The Skincare Lineup: July 29th, 2022

Good morning my darlings, it is time for my favorite post of the week, the skincare post. while I do like doing the individual reviews of items there is just something I really enjoy about talking about the products when they are in motion. Or maybe it’s because I get to talk about a lot of them at once in a way that would make anyone I was actually talking to who didn’t love skin care glaze over and not politely while looking for exits. Regardless, it is my favorite post. So let’s dive in.

Cleanser: Tatcha Soft Cream Cleanser

Toner: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner

EyeCream: Verso Eye Cream Extra Nourish #5

Daytime Serum: Sulwhasoo First Care

Night Serum: Kiehl’s Retinol Fast Release Wrinkle reducing Night Serum.

Moisturizer: Augustinus Bader The Light Cream

Lip Mask: Tatcha kissu Lip mask

Okay last week I was working with some sample sized products. Some of them ran out and were replaced, others hung on for just one more week. The Tatcha Cleanser sample had enough for two weeks worth of night and day cleaning. I really like this cleanser so I was happy to use it for another week. The tube is alas empty now so I am am a little sad. But I know I will pick it up again. This isn’t my first go round with this cleanser and it won’t me my last. what I love about it, is that it is a slightly thicker consistency. I can wet my face then apply the cleanser to the skin like a really thick moisturizer. I can see exactly where the cleanser is so I know all of my skin is covered. Plus with the thicker consistency less product is needed so the product’s use can be extended. Then water is added, the cleanser massaged into lather and rinsed away. The clean is fantastic and my skin feels nourished as well as cleaned and not stripped. It is a really good cleanser and I have to say I really like the light scent of it. It is the scent of Tatcha skincare. Their primers too have it. I am not entirely certain what that scent is, but all their products seem to have it so I think of it as the Tatcha scent. It is light though so it isn’t overpowering.

This week’s toner is new. I thought I had another sample sized toner in my collection, but if I do, I couldn’t find it. As toners aren’t often sent in most subscriptions (the way cleansers are, I have a boatload of those to work through actually) so they don’t accumulate as fast. Admittedly now that I have said this, I will probably receive a host of toners. It seems to go that way doesn’t it? I was excited to try this toner actually. There are a few products from First Aid Beauty that I absolutely love (Like their Ultra Repair Moisturizer, which was perfect for winter dry skin, hydrating but non-pore clogging). While this is from the same Ultra repair line that has done well for me in the past, especially in the winter, I have also never had an oat based toner before. Most of the toners I tend to lean into are Witch Hazel based. I have more or less always used them and so I gravitate towards what I know. I was surprised to find this was a white liquid.

I know I shouldn’t be surprised it is after all made with oats, but it did take me by surprise. I was very impressed with how it performed though. Oat based products are very soothing on the skin and this is no different. I did have a l few stress related blemishes I was taking down this week and this really did help the reddened irritations surrounding hem to be less irritated without drying out the skin. I really liked it this week and am looking forward to using it longer.

The Verso Eye Cream was new to me as well. It is a sample. This was it’s first week of use but as the sample tube wasn’t very full it looks quite spent. There is enough product to get me through a second week, mostly because when you use eye cream you use so little of it. I have never tried a Verso product I didn’t like and this was no exception. It is a great product. I just wish there was more in the tube so I could use it longer. It is fast absorbing, not greasy, plumps the fine lines and doesn’t clog the pores, what more could i ask besides more product in the tube?

the Sulwhasoo First care looks like it will stain but it won’t the color disappears

The Sulwhasoo First Care Serum is in a sample size that too has now been emptied. It is not the first time I have used this serum and not the last. It is a great serum and I have used several samples as well as a full sized bottle. The full sized bottle is really pretty too actually. I know looks don’t matter, but the serum inside is fantastic so i don’t mind that I like the look of the bottle. It also fits really well in the hand and I enjoy picking it up. So that is a little extra benefit. The serum can look a little odd at first, It is a golden color that looks like it might darken the skin, but it doesn’t it absorbs fast leaving no tint behind.

The Keihl’s night serum is doing well also. It is a full sized bottle so it will be around a bit longer. It is a good retinol and it hasn’t productid any sun sensitivity. Usually in the summertime, even though I use retinol type products at night, they can make me sun sensitive the following day. So in the summer time i tend to switch to bakuchiol products since they are retinol like but don’t have the same sun sensitivity. I like them because of that, but I always find I get better results with a retinol. So I am pleased this one hasn’t cause issues this summer. And if it hasn’t caused issues this summer I think I am in the clear.

The Augustine Bader was sent to me by Influenster. I have had issues with the Rich cream so i tested this on my arm for three days before moving to my face. I had no issues with it. The cream is a light weight water cream and is great for day time use. I noticed last week that I thought I was going to have to roll in a night mask a few nights a week. I didn’t get around to it, and I will definitely be adding one in this week. This is a good day cream, but it just isn’t enough for night time use without a back up every couple of days. The tube kind of drives me a little batty though. I looks cool but it get knocked over really easily and it can only stand one way, upside down. the bottom is rounded. I don’t think i would mind as much if the writing was swapped around, but because I don’t think about it, especially in the morning, I tend to first try to put it down with the writing facing up which doesn’t work. I do like the shape and the pump. If it was a little wider in the base for stability or maybe a little shorter it would not get knocked over so easily but that is a packaging issue. The product itself is a really good day cream.

Which brings us to the Kissu Mask from Tatcha. What can I say, I love it. I only need a light swipe of product to hydrate my lips and keep them healthy and so this little jar will last a really long time. I also plan to use every drop of it so you will be hearing about it for a while. It is great to absorb in over night, but a lighter coat in the morning will help the lips hydrate before lipstick is added. If you have a drier lip product whose color you like, it is a great trick to help out your lips. Apply a thin coat of the mask about fifteen minutes before you apply your lip products. Most will absorb in but wipe off the last of what remains and then apply the lip product. It lets the lippies dry down as intended but keeps your lips from drying out.

But that is me for the week. The emptied sample sizes will be replaced. I am not sure if they will be replaced by full sized products or sample ones this time around. I was looking at my cleansers and while I still have a handful of samples, I have a lot of full sized cleansers I need to work through, so i might go full size. I also have a package that just came in from a brand. If there is a serum in there it may be rotated in. We shall see. Actually I shall see tonight given that I’ll need to replace them tonight for my nightly routine. But you my darlings will have to wait and see what appears in next week’s exciting skincare line up. Stay turned and have a great Friday.

The Daily: July 27th, 2022

Good Afternoon my darlings, I hope your week is going well. Yesterday my babydoll had dental surgery so I spent a large chunk of my day working in the waiting room on a lap top. It was surprisingly productive actually. With the exception of me and one older gentleman reading a newspaper on the other side of the waiting room, everyone else chose to wait in their cars. While it eliminated my sport of people watching, I did get a lot of work done, which was nice.

And the surgery went well.

Today my babydoll is home resting. And my resting I mean he has taken a lot of pain medication and while he is relaxing on the couch he is periodically moving around, mostly to come in and either ask what I’m up to or to tell me something about the show he is watching. I thought he might be lonely so I tried sitting on the couch watching television with him for a bit but he didn’t really want me there. he wanted to sprawl out on the couch and then periodically come in to tell me something so he could stretch his legs.

Which has mead this an interesting work day. Twenty two minutes seems to be the gap between visits. Occasionally it will be twenty five and occasionally eighteen but it seems to average out to twenty two minutes. I’m sure if you ask him tomorrow then he will claim he only came to ask me a few direly important questions once or twice during the day. And a week from now he will claim that when he is ill or hurting he just wants the space to be left completely alone. That seems to be his mental picture of himself. It isn’t reality, but it is the version he likes.

Today there was no walking and while I have gotten up from my desk a lot more today, I didn’t work in a workout. Tomorrow he is back to work though so I am going to take advantage of the extra work time I used yesterday to plan some extra work outs tomorrow. I’m hoping that will make up for missing today and possibly help to balance things out.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Illamasqua Gel Sculpting stick

Blush: Pixi by Petra Peach Honey Duo

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Palette

Eyebrows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Kit

Mascara: Tarte Gifted mascara

Lips: Wet ‘n Wild Megalast Lipstick topped with Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb

Today I reached for the Tatcha liquid Silk canvas Primer because it was light on the skin and quickj and easy to apply. There is no waiting time really and light and quick was more or less today’s style. Plus I am never upset reaching for a Tatcha primer. It just works beautifully.

The bareminerals also falls into the light and easy category. I like the way it blends and takes down redness, evening skin tone. It does have a bit of a glow-y look. While I am getting more accustomed to this look in the cooler months, in the summer time it just makes me think of sweating so I dust it off with powder. Since my favorite powder from No 7 is at the end of it’s life I am using it all this week so that i can bit it a fond farewell and then repurchase. It is a standard item in my bag. often I have two, one for the makeup drawer and one that stays in my purse. With not going out as much after I finished the one in my makeup drawer I took out the one in my purse to use. (I didn’t want to just leave it there to linger and go bad since I wasn’t going out. I actually transferred all but a lip balm out of my purse actually. The hand lotions and sanitizers I still go through quite rapidly so they stay, everything else has been taken out. which I might need to look at soon since I am starting to go out more than I was so another switch might be eminent. But that is a tale for another time.)

The Illamasqua bronzer is performing well. I chose to use it today because it can be a light touch product. it can also be darkened for drama, but the lighter application works well with the tintes moisturizer level of coverage. It is just enough.

I decided that since i was going light I would take out the Pixi Duo. I like the blush. It isn’t going to be a favorite but it is good for a light look and I don’t mind using it. I don’t care for the highlighter side of the duo, but the blush is nice.

iMethod is my go to brow product. i did hurry today so one is a little lopsided. You need to line up the stencils and not rush that aspect. Once you get that done, you are golden.

Today I switched back to trying out the lunar beauty palette. It is not a highly pigmented formula, however if you tap off the brush before applying the product then there is also no fall out. which is nice. I will be playing around with this for a while as I try to figure out how it performs and how i feel about it.

Tarte makes great mascara and this is not the first time I’ve used the Gifted clay formula. I really like it. it works well without flaking and is great for everyday use. My favorite tarte mascara is still the Lights camera Lashes but this is still a really good formual and not the first tube of this that has ended up in my makeup.

And finally the lips. I love the Wet ‘n wild Matte formula. It does last a long time and it is comfortable to wear. While it doesn’t dry out my lips in the winter, I have found that if I am spending time in the sun it is best if I put something on top. Today I went with the Fenty Beauty Gloss bomb. The wet n wild doesn’t dry out my lips but if left uncovered the matte lipstick can look a little dry in the summer sun for some reason. With the topper there are no problems.

But now my darlings I must leave you. I have just been asked ‘how crunchy is too crunchy do you think’ and now there is movement in the kitchen. so I am off to point out that popcorn and dental surgery don’t mix. As this is the second time with this conversation i think I might hid the bags of microwave popcorn, keeping them out if sight for a few days at least. Have a great Wednesday.

Trying out the Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

I have been a big fan of the Tatcha Silk Canvas primer for a while. It is a balm type primer and in addition to making my makeup last longer and look great, it also makes my skin feel good both while wearing it and after removal. With my last Tatcha order I received a sample of the Liquid version of this primer and I tried it out. As the sample was a foil packet, the product was enough to interest me, but not enough to let me know if I would actually enjoy this primer for a longer period of time.

Plus with foil packets I find my use is never how I would normally use it. Sometimes I over use a product because I don’t want to make a mess with an open foil packet. Plus they are a bit unwieldy so sometimes product is just wasted. Luckily for me, Tatcha has this primer in a travel size. Since I also wanted to try out the Silk Powder for longer than the foil packet allowed I also picked up the travel size of the loose powder. But that is another story.

primer applied where it is most needed

This was an interesting primer to use. I couldn’t help but compare it to the balm style. Which is both understandable and a little silly. The silly part is that balms should be compared to balms and liquids to liquid. The understandable part is that they are from the same brand and are pretty much the same product in different formats.

This primer has the same scent as the balm version which is a slightly floral, slightly skin care kind of scent. It is light and it fades out fairly quickly so it isn’t much of an issue for the scent minded. I think the scent is slightly lighter in the liquid version than the balm, but that could also be a factor of format. when you open the balm, the entire pan is exposed and scent wafts up, whereas with the pump you only smell the scent of the small amount you pump out of the bottle.

I found one pump was enough for me. since my largest pores are my noes and cheeks I tend to apply the most product there and then blend outwards towards other areas. Also my nose is where I tend to lose makeup first so a little extra primer keeps it more in sync with the rest of the wear on my face.

primer blended out. slightly mattifying in nature

It is quite liquid when dispensed. It isn’t runny but it is liquid. I knew it was because it is a liquid primer, but the scent hit me first and my brain thought of the other primer so it seemed surprising at first. What was interesting was that once applied, it simply smoothed over the face like a slightly lighter version of the balm. It almost stiffened up with air and skin contact.

It was almost like they made it just liquid enough to be able to smoothly come out of the pump before it did it’s best to turn from liquid to balm. It didn’t quite get there but it did it’s best.

So how did the Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas perform?

Beautifully. It is a great product. It performed just as well as the balm version. It applied easily, made my makeup last longer and made my skin feel great. To be honest, the only real difference I found between the two is the fact that one is a solid and the other is a liquid. They are both fabulous products and if you are looking to choose between them then the only thing you need to think about is whether or not you prefer your primer in liquid or balm format. The liquid is quick and easy to grab in the mornings when you are rushed, but if you are traveling the balm won’t spill because it is a solid. There are benefits to both so it is just going to come down to personal preference. I will still use the travel size off and on because I am curious to see how long it will last. After two weeks of dedicated use it is still more than halfway full. I will add it into rotation and use every last drop before a refill is purchased.

Five Summertime Essentials

As summertime settles in and looks as though it will stretch on into forever, I always find there are some products that I simply can’t do without. Many of them in one size or another find their way into my purse and end up traveling with me wherever i go in the summer months. These are my current top five summer must haves.

1- Sunscreen: Always a number one item and always in need. My current favorite is the Volition Prismatic Luminizing Shield SPF 50. It is described as the sunscreen for people who don’t like sunscreen and I have to admit I was in that camp for a long time. I simply hated the feel of sunscreen. I would use a spray as little as i could get away with and probably did some sun damage to myself because of it. especially since I would often forget to apply it. This sunscreen sits with my skincare and is applied as the last step of my morning skincare routine. Getting in the habit of adding it each morning regardless of what i am doing has done wonders for me. I still add an extra coat of spray sunscreen before going on my walk, but i like having that security under my makeup each day. While this is the original version, they now also make a mineral version.

2- Dry Shampoo: For me Klorane is my favorite. I’ve tried other versions and some have been good, others not so good. I always come back to Klorane. This did come with a cap but somehow i always loose the caps within a day or two of opening them. (I am beginning to suspect one day I’ll move the furniture around and find them having a party under my bed.) You may notice that this is the Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk (extra Gentle) rather than my usual Nettle infused for dark hair. While the nettle infused is fantastic for darker hair, leaves less white residue and is my go to dry shampoo when I need winter touch ups, I tend to lean into the Oat Milk version in the summertime. It does leave a little bit more white cast than the nettle for dark hair, but it is gentler on my hair. The white brushes out quickly and easily. I am not saying the Nettle is harsh, it isn’t. But in the summer my bangs can get very oily looking very fast so I find myself reaching for dry shampoo to keep them looking good far more often than at any other time of the year, so I switch to the most gentle version available. Thus far, I have had very good results with this system.

3- Spray Thermal Water: To be honest, I used to think that thermal water was just for people sunning themselves pool side. I thought of it as something a bit extra rather than essential. Then I picked up a bottle to add to my bag for a pool party. I didn’t use it at the pool party, but when I got home I had it so I thought I’d use it. I fell in love and it has become a summer staple. While this travel size Uriage Eau Thermal is the one I keep in my purse, I also keep a bottle by the garden door. It is hot in the summer time and I sweat. With the high humidity, the sweat doesn’t evaporate and cool you off like it does in less humid climates. It just rolls down your skin leaving salt deposits on your skin. For me that always makes me feel both tight and itchy as well as hot and sweaty.

A quick spray of thermal water helps alleviate that. The water is far cooler than both the air temp and my skin temp so it is a quick but gentle cool down. I am one of those people who gets massive headaches if i am hot and sweaty outside and then go inside where it is air conditioned. I have to cool down a little first or that headache will more or less last the rest of the day. The thermal water helps. The water cools me down and it washes off some of the salt left behind so my skin doesn’t feel as tight and itchy. I personally like the fine spray of the Uriage as well as the slight scent of the minerals in the water.

4- Lip Mask: While I often think of dry chapped lips as a winter time affliction, it can be an issue for me in the summertime. I find I generally need a lip scrub more in the winter, where as a frequent application of a good lip mask will keep my lips from becoming overly dry in the summer. For me as soon as they start to chap I will pick at them absently when i am working. i never mean to and i yell at myself fiercely when I do, but by then the damage is already done and my lips are painful and need time to heal.

The best thing i can do is to not let them get to a stage where they ae dry enough to pick at. My current favorite lip mask is the Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask. There is very little scent and no taste to it. While it is fantastic at night, a little dose during the day doesn’t go amiss. I will generally put a light coat on in the morning and let it soak into the skin before I do my makeup for the day. I do wile off the excess before I apply my lipstick. Often times i will just wear the lip mask as a gloss if I have a more natural look going on. It is a lightweight mask with heavy duty hydration and very little stickiness to it.

5- Sunglasses: I have reached an age where I am in a full out battle with the fine lines around my eyes. I know they are there and I know over time they will deepen because that is just the way that life works. However I am determined to put up as much of a fight as I can/ I know the Resistance will loose the war, I just want to draw out the battle as long as I can. while this has lead many plumping agents into my skincare line up, it has also led to a proliferation of sunglasses. Moving around in the sun without them causes me to squint, wearing them helps me not squint.

My current favorite pair are these aviator style pair from Tomahawk shades Marksman Class. I love the fact that the bottom of the lens is slightly flattened as this is a good shape for my face. My favorite feature though is the fact that the lenses are actually amber tinted. This means the sunglasses are cutting the glare but in their own way brightening the world around me rather than casting the world into shade. They are excellent for driving and it means that if i am outside and going from a sunny spot to a shaded one, i can still leave them in place since I don’t have to lift them out of the way when shade makes things slightly darker.

The Daily: July 19th, 2022

Have you ever bought something because it was too pretty to resist? There is this brand called Zeesea/Palace Cosmetics and their packaging is just beautiful I picked up a powder compact from their Egyptian Collab with the British museum and it is my favorite compact. The powder is good. But the compact is fantastic.

Well in my quest to shake up my subscription boxes I found that Zeesea now has a monthly makeup subscription. I started looking into it and realized that while I love the compact, and often ogle their lipsticks, I hadn’t actually tried any of their makeup products. So I used this as an excuse to order one of the eyeshadow compacts from their Palace Identity Line.

It arrived last night and it is just as pretty in person as it is on line. I think it took about a month to reach me. And I couldn’t resist using it today. I’m going to call it research as I decide whether or not to try out the subscription from the brand but the truth is it was very pretty and I sometimes just like pretty things. I like them better if they work well, but it is very pretty.

Other than that I am dodging rainstorms today. It is incidentally why my hair isn’t looking fabulous. it has been wet several times this morning as I run around. I attempted part of a walk, this morning as it was a little cooler. The rain caught me. It caught me again when I was checking in on the garden. Since it has been mostly me at the desk working with no video call interruptions I let my hair just be what it is going to be today. I’m hoping to get a bit more yoga in later this afternoon. I just have one set of revisions to go before i can take a breather.

Today’s Look

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Kim Chi Beauty Thailor Bronzer

Blush: Pixi by Petra Peach Honey Duo

Powder: By Terry Hyaluronic Acid Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Palace Identity Compact eyeshadow palette from Zeesea

mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Eyebrows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Kit

Lips: TYS beauty lip treat

Today was a very low key look. with the bareminerals being a light tinted moisturizer I decided to see if the Pixi duo worked better with it. It is of a light enough hue that with actual foundation products it was getting a bit lost. So I decided that this would be a good time to test it again. I also wanted to see if the Kim Chi bronzer could be toned down for a more natural look. with the Kim Chi I found that I needed to swipe the brush across the product and pat the bristles on my hand once and then do a light touch application. This managed to add just enough product to the cheeks. It is a very blendable formula so I think it is worth playing with. I do think that it wouldn’t be my first choice for a natural look, but I like that I can make it work if that is the bronzer I have to hand.

With the Pixi, the blush was fine. The peach shade with only a tinted moisturizer works well. I don’t like the honey highlight. I think it performs more like an old school white contour than a highlight. If I was going for the dramatic contour, I would put this under the contour line before blending to enhance it. I don’t do that sort of contouring anymore, and it wasn’t my favorite even when it was in fashion. I do like the blush for a light look though so i will probably keep it around for that side of the duo.

When applying the By Terry today I used a makeup sponge. It worked a lot better than the brush with this powder. There was less of a dust cloud. It is a very finely milled product. However using the sponge did tend to leave a few white spots from the powder. I used a clean brush to sort of blend them in and all was good. I like this powder, but i think that I would look into picking up a version of it with a tint if I were going to purchase in a full size. It might be my skin tone or my application, but I think a little tint to the powder would help me out.

I am loving the iMethod Beauty brow stencils. It is just so simple and easy to use. I am bad with brows and this makes me less bad at brows. What more needs to be said. This is going to be a standard. I’ll put it aside to test other products of course, but I’m pretty sure this is now what I am going to be testing them against.

And now we have the pretty palette. It is just beautiful. Today I used all of the shades at once just to test out pigmentation and blending. I went with only dry brushes. The deep pink at the bottom is very pigmented and I think I went in a bit heavy. There was no fall out though it was just a brighte pink then I wanted. I think the other shades are more subtle and I think tomorrow I will leave off that bright pink and see about creating a softer look. To be honest I don’t mind setting the Lunar Beauty to the side for the moment because i really want to look at some tutorials with it before I play around with it more. Despite the multitude of pans all my looks with it are more or less the same. So I’ll play with the pretty palette while I look into the other.

And yes, that is a justification.

Rounding out the products was the TYS Lip treat lip plumper. It stings like it is going to make your lips huge, but the difference is very subtle. I do like it as a gloss. I will probably use it until it is gone and then never bother replacing it, but it is fine as a slightly holographic gloss on days where I just want a little lip love. Today it worked for me.

And that my darlings was me today. I know I was mostly just excited that the pretty compact came in. And it is just as pretty as I thought it would be, so i am pleased. I still don’t know about the Zeesea subscription, it will be something I have to think about. But I do like using the pretty compact and the shadow was not bad. It is certainly something to think about.

But for me it is back to work now. I hope the rest of your day flows smoothly.

The Daily: July 18th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I hope your Monday is going swimmingly. Today has been a really interesting day for me. I woke up just before my alarm this morning so I didn’t start the day by being unpleasantly jarred out of my slumber. And I actually slept well last night which helped. Coffee was a tasty treat instead of a necessity and I didn’t contemplate taking it intravenously.

My Friday was interrupted my a new project and a rescheduling of a second one. As I finished and released my last book I spent the weekend outlining my next one. (very excited by it) so this morning was a world of all new starts. It had a bit of that new year’s day feeling to it. You know the ‘I’m stepping into a whole new year’ kinda vibe. I think I have been working on finishing up so many major projects that it feels like forever since I have gotten to start something fresh.

It felt amazing.

I was a bit of a slug this weekend. I binge watched the entire first season of Blood & Treasure this weekend on Paramount +. The new season just started so I thought I’d watch an episode or two of the first season to get a feel for it, and just got sucked into the entire first season. This thing has everything. A master thief working with a former FBI agent (of course they have ‘chemistry’ and ‘history’), ancient Egyptian treasures, arms dealers with spy thriller type action, secret organizations and ancient brotherhoods based in Rome, a possible supernatural angle and of course Nazis.

Oh yeah, they added in the Nazis.

I think whoever wrote this just said, let’s see what happens if we chuck a bunch of different genres in a blender and see what happens. and then add Nazi sprinkles on top.

It is a lot of fun though. You can’t take it seriously, but it is a lot of fun. I’ll put the link below. Paramount+ has a try it free link and if you are going to try it, I’d suggest running through a few episodes. The first episode in the series is pretty much the set up for all of the back stories and then every other episode is kind of a fast paced danger of the day sort of show.

It was a nice brain clearing weekend which really did help me start fresh today. So it was very much appreciated.

Today’s look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Kim Chi Beauty Thailor Bronzer

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Powder: By Terry Hyaluronic Acid Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Eyeshadow Palette

mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Eyebrows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow Kit

Lips: KVD Beauty Epic Kiss Lipstick

This is the last week of the Tatcha liquid Primer test, but I have to say it hasn’t been a hardship to use it. It goes on like a slightly thin feeling liquid, but as you blend it in it almost feels like it thickens and fills pores while locking in makeup. It is a nice primer actually.

Thi is the second use of the bareminerals tinted moisturizer and it feels really nice. It is a little light for me at this time of year, but it is workable. this is the shade i can see taking me into the fall actually. I am at the darkest shade my skin gets right now and it still works so I don’t think I’d actually need a darker shade. For the next month or so it is going to be the season of shade adjustment. I am just never this tan for all that long so I am at the dark end of my summer products and as the heat is too much to allow much time spent outside, soon the tan will fade back a little. (then the weather will cool off just enough to allow walking time and it will darken again for a few weeks before lightening for autumn and winter. Its a process,) This moisturizer feels weightless and I love that it has SPF. I am still using sunscreen when I go out, but a little extra doesn’t hurt.

The Kim Chi Bronzer came in the IPSY bag this month so this was a first use. It is a soft formula and it needs a light hand to apply. It may have seemed extra pigmented because of the tinted moisturizer, but this is a bronzer that needs a light hand to apply. one swipe of the brush across the pan and then applied to the cheek was a deep line of bronzer that I had to blend out. It does blend well, but tread carefully.

After playing with the bronzer I went for the bareMinerals blush. I love this blush and it requires hardly any thought to use. A little dab and a quick blend and you are done. I use a finger tip. the formula feels like a powder but blends like a cream. It is one of my to three blushes.

This was a first use for the By Terry powder as well today. It is a very finely milled product. And while that does mean that it sits well on the skin without looking powdery, it also means you need to prepare for a dust cloud. If you apply with a brush, you will need some kind of clothing shield and remember to time your breath so you don’t inhale the cloud. I suspect it will be less powdery with a makeup sponge and as this month’s Boxy sent two new ones, I will try that out tomorrow. I like the way thus powder looks but it is finely milled enough to make a bit of a mess with a brush.

The Lunar Beauty Eyeshadow Palette worked well for me today. I went with all mattes. The first time I used it I couldn’t resist the bronze shimmer. And it was fantastic, but because of the softer shades in the pan the shimmers tend to take over when used, so i went shimmer free. It isn’t a super pigmented formula but it is both blendable and buildable. I like it, but I think I may have to watch a few tutorials on this palette so I can see professionals play with it since I suspect every time I pick it up i am just going to come out with slight variations on the same look. The shadows I used today are completely different than the ones I used on Thursday but if I added the shimmer it would look virtually the same as Thursdays look. So that may end up being an issue. I’ll look into it before I make my final decision.

I trimmed my bangs over the weekend. And so my brows are now visible. I have been using the iMethod brow kit and I love it. I have found my stencil and with everything trimmed it takes no time to put the brows on and make them look good. I am in love with this kit actually. (Brows have always been a weak point for me.) I like not really having to mess with them and having them look the same. Call it a cheat if you want, but I will take it. Love this kit. It is going to be a standard for a while. (oh and it is currently on sale if you follow the link in the list above).

I know I have not been impressed with the Patrick Ta mascara, but today I decided to play a bit with it. Mostly I was just so tickled by the brows I decided to take some extra time. I like the way the lashes look today but it did take extra time. There was a layer, a pause to add lipstick, another layer. A pause to put makeup away, another layer. a spritz of perfume and then a final fourth layer. After the fourth layer I decided I liked the look. The trick seems to be letting the first layer dry a little before the second layer is added. The mascara didn’t clump but it did take four layers to reach this stage. I think this is a mascara that is fine for basic office looks, or that would pare well with other mascaras, but it still isn’t my favorite.

Finally we come to the lips. I went with the KVD today. I really like the formula of this lipstick. The shade does tend to look darker in the tube than on the lips which is something to look out for. I always look at it and think wow that’s my berry shade and then it comes out a little too pink. It is a great formula that is comfortable to wear though. I may try a lip liner underneath to deepen it because it is slightly pink for my taste, but I do like the formula.

And that is me today my darlings. I am pretty pleased with how everything turned out. I am also pretty pleased with my Monday. I had a good night’s sleep and spent the day delving into new projects. All in all, a pretty good time for me. I hope your day was as good and productive as mine. I also hope the week stays this good all the way through. Fingers crossed.

The Daily: July 14th, 2022

Today has been a very good day my darlings. I have been working on The Academy for a really long time. It has felt like the cursed manuscript. Anytime i got close to finishing it something would happen. I lost the document twice (partially due to computer glitches and partially because of my own stupidity – always back up your documents) So I actually wrote the bulk of this manuscript three separate times. There were also multiple family emergencies, two surgeries and a death. Anytime I uttered the words, ‘I think I’m almost done with this,’ something would happen. I have never had this much trouble getting a manuscript finished before.

But it is done now. The curse has been lifted.

As you can imagine the bulk of today was my own personal mini celebration. I didn’t do much that was out of the ordinary. I walked, I did my yoga. I chased the birds away from my blackberry bush because last night’s storms sent the netting flying across the yard leaving the berries exposed. I did paperwork.

Okay at lunch I took some of the fizzy water from my Soda Stream bottle, added a splash of grenadine and a twist of lemon peel and put it into one of the fancier cocktail glasses in my collection. Because even cursed manuscripts need a little celebration.

Otherwise it was a pretty typical work day. But I have to say even the typical work conundrums don’t feel bad today. Because the book is complete. Bring on the paperwork, I am fine with it. I feel like I can tackle anything right now. I know the feeling won’t last, but while it is here, I am going to revel in it.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Primer

Foundation: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer: Buxom Cosmetics Staycation Bronzer

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Powder: bareMinerals Mineral Veil

Eyeshadow: Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Eyeshadow Palette

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara

Lips: bareMinerals Mineralist Moisturizing Vegan Lipstick in Perception

I know, today I went bareMinerals heavy. I couldn’t help it. I saw the newly arrived tinted moisturizer and though about how much I love their blush so I decided to use it. Next to it in the drawer was the bareMinerals Setting powder which I really enjoy and then when I looked at the lip products I saw the glosses from bareMinerals which are summer time go-tos but then I saw the actual lipstick and you know I love a good deep lip.

I figured that since the eyeshadow leaned in a reddish tint direction I would lean into it. I am still testing out the Tatcha and the Buxom was still out from it’s last use. So that was my decision process. I don’t regret any of it. They are all really good products.

This was the first use of the tinted moisturizer. I think it might be a shade too light for my skin at this time of year, but with the bronzer I made it work. It is one of those products than can go on for really light coverage but be built up for a medium one. Because of the tone I went for the lighter side. When playing around with it I will attempt to build it up to see how it performs, but I really like the way it looks as an almost sheer coverage. It evens the skin tone and blended in well. It feels like I am wearing absolutely nothing on my face. It was a really good first use and I am looking forward to playing around with it.

The other first use was the Lunar Beauty palette. One tap knocked off any loose powder so there was no fall out during application. The shadows are slightly on the powdery side, at least the mattes are. The shimmers are quite soft. They aren’t deeply pigmented but they are buildable and they blend really well. The dry shadow brush did nothing with the shimmers. Next I’ll try it with a wet brush but today I used a fingertip and they applied well. There was just no pigment gathered with the dry shadow brush from the shimmers. I’m going to break out both the setting spray and the cotton swabs for this palette test, but honestly it was a decent first test. No fall out and I like the shades.

Off to a great start.

And now I am going to let my good mood help my afternoon paperwork seem less onerous. So it is back to work for me. Have a great afternoon my darlings and I’ll see you back again tomorrow morning to round out the week.

The Daily: July 11th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today has been interesting. I went to get the mail and was very excited that one of the items I ordered from the IPSY store arrived. It was the Korres Santorini Grape Velvet skin Drink. I have been really wanting to try it out. And when I saw it for sale on IPSy I thought it was about perfect.

Now I should explain that I did purchase this from IPSY a while back, when it first came out on the site. It was somehow lost in transit and after much back and forth they finally told me it was sold out and just refunded me the money. This time when it arrived, the top had been somehow unscrewed in transit and the bottle arrived empty. The package smelled fantastic and the green glass bottle was lovely, but it was empty. So I contacted IPSY care (which meant spending way too much time with their IPSY Bot before finally getting to submit a ticket to a person.) Surprisingly they got back to me in under an hour. They asked me to confirm my details and they said they would send out a replacement.

Mostly I am mentioning this because there have been a lot of horror stories about IPSY’s customer service and replacement policy. I wanted to note down when this happened so I can follow the trail of the replacement item. I’m hoping it won’t be a saga, but I wanted a firm reminder that this replacement sequence began on July 11th.

I am impressed that they got back to me so quickly. Hopefully that is a good indicator. we shall see. As for the rest of the day, the creek was swollen and flood the park, so it was back to Yoga for my daily exercise. I don’t mind it but I do prefer the walks. Of course even without the rain it was getting too warm for walks outside. July and August the heat just makes it impossible here. And because I have the Yogaworks program I am trying out, there are plenty of workouts. I’ve been doing them haphazardly mostly so I can try them out, but I think I like it enough that in August I am going to set up a more regular schedule with it. Not only will the regular schedule be better for me, but I can really get a feel for the system.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer

Foundation: Yensa BC Full coverage Foundation

Bronzer: Buxom Staycation Vibes Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua Gel Blusher

Powder: Tatcha Silk Powder

Eyeshadow: Natasha Denona Ayana Palette

Mascara: Patrick Ta Major Volume Mascara

Lips: Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb

Okay several of these products I chose because I didn’t tidy up my makeup over the weekend and they were out. I was also moving kind of fast this morning and I knew that they would work without trouble so I went with them. The Buxom Cosmetics Bronzer and the Illamasqua gel blusher are two of my absolute favorite products and I don’t really have to think too much when using them. They work without causing issues. I will put them back in the drawer and use other things, but today, they were good products that were already out.

I am still playing around with the liquid primer from Tatcha. It works well but I’m not sure if I like it more than the balm primer. That one I adore. And given the price I can only buy one of them at a time. I can’t justify both at the same time. But it is a nice primer. It fills pores quite well and is really nice to use. So testing it out this week is not a hardship. Plus I kind of want to see how long the travel size will last.

The Yensa BC Foundation is one of my favorite foundation product. If I could only have three foundations, it would be at the top of the list. This always sort of surprises me as their Silk foundation is good but not my favorite. I always find it fun that the same brand can have such different products. But this BC foundation is a total winner if you want something that blends easy and never looks caked on. The trick for me is rotating it and using other products.

I wanted to use the Ayana Palette again today so that I can do a comparison with the Cream and Sugar palette from ELF. The Natasha Denona Palette has one more shadow (silver) but I think I prefer the formula of the elf palette. and I can live without the silver. I will be using the elf tomorrow to see how I feel about it then. With testing other products it’s been a while since I used it.

The Patrick Ta mascara is still okay. I will use it and not repurchase it. Its fine, but thee is nothing special about it. I used the eyelash curler with it and that gave it a little more help, but it is just a basic mascara.

The Gloss bomb is the only Fenty product I really love and I am trying to remember to use it more often. So I have it out. It is a really great formula that really hydrates the lips as well as providing shine.

And in case you are wondering about my hair, I am trying out a new shampoo and conditioner. It is the Herbal Essences Argan oil for repair. I expected the shine and softness, but i didn’t expect the volume. It is a little fuller than I thought it would be. I am liking it, I was just surprised.

So now it is back to work for me. I hope all of you are having a fantastic day. As for me, I am feeling good and on the final stretch of a book release. The relief I will feel when this is finally out can not be underestimated. It has been an almost cursed manuscript. But soon the curse will life. Hopefully. Keep your fingers crossed.
