The Daily: December 15th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. Today is going to be a short post. I started my day with a nice long walk, which proved quite fortuitous as I doubt I will get the chance for an afternoon one. So I at least have my calories on track. I thought today was going to be a nice and quiet day. I had a lot of work to do, but after Monday craziness I thought I would be okay to do it.

Apparently I was wrong.

Agnes’s daughter dropped by with a plate of cookies. Agnes is my neighbor with Alzheimer’s. Her daughter wanted to thank me for helping out when Agnes goes wandering. She has done that only a couple of times this year. I end up calling her kids and then having strange conversations with her in the back yard. I actually kind of enjoy the conversations. They are completely bonkers and I can see how a constant stream would wear on a person, but Agnes just doesn’t leave the house much anymore so for me they are only occasional things.

But now I have a nice plate of sugar cookies.

I also have some chocolate fudge that My babydoll is going to love. It was from another neighbor. We looked after their dog when they had to deal with a family emergency one weekend.

I thought that was very nice. Although the polite conversations took a bit of time. I then got to watch dueling delivery vehicles in the neighborhood. Our neighborhood does not have very wide streets so when a FedEx or UPS vehicle goes down the street it drives down the center of the lane and pretty much takes up the whole street. We had FedEx, UPS, DHL and a garbage truck all trying to use the same set of streets at the same time. It was interesting to watch everyone negotiate for space. There was a lot of backing up, parking and walking on the part of the drivers. I actually got several packages today as things have started to arrive. For me next week is going to be the big delivery week.

I thought In the absence of makeup today I’d share a few of the goodies that arrived.

The glasses are not a new arrival, they are fairly recent though. They are my reading glasses from ThinOptics. I absolutely adore them actually. I just took them off when I took the picture and they were in the frame. Thinoptics is still having a sale though if you ae interested (35% off sitewide).

The box is the Time Revolution essence from Missha, they too are having a sale (40% off sitewide with an extra 20% for today’s miracle deal if you find anything interesting about this brand, today is probably your best day to go for it. The miracle deal changes daily so that extra 20% is just for today.) and so I stocked up on my favorite essence. This is the one I am holding back for my use once i finish my open essence (which will be a while) the second bottle I snuck into the medicine cabinet for my baby doll to use. I know it isn’t medicine but if it is there he will use it to soothe wind and sunburned skin. If it is with my skincare he won’t. Somehow it becomes something else when it with my skincare. He will use it from the medicine cabinet though, so I put a bottle there.

I have finally worked my way through a large chunk of my sample body lotion collection. Okay i also added several to stockings this year as well. So I ordered a full size of the Korres Body Butter. I really love the formula. I also like that it has the green scent of the fig tree rather than the jammy fruitiness of the actual figs. Sometimes with sweet smelling body lotion it makes me feel sticky just by the scent. This one doesn’t. It just gives me soft skin. Plus it is also nice to have a full sized body lotion again. I was using so many sample tubes just to use them up that I had a different body lotion every other shower. It’s nice to be able to just stick with one for a while.

The timer I got from Amazon, mostly because I needed a new timer. I do timed writings every morning and my old chicken timer was starting to stick. So now I have anew one which I think is quite adorable.

And finally in today’s collection of randomly arriving packages I have a Sparitual Gold nail polish. I really like sparitual nail polish, and quite a few of them are on sale at the moment. I also picked up a dry body brush from them that is quite excellent. Its about a year old now and still looks and works fabulously. this nail polish is a gold top coat that you can put over other colors. I have a couple of them but the ones I have are all silver based and I wanted one in gold for the holidays. I’m going to put it over a dark green for Christmas and I’m thinking about over a dark blue for New Years. I haven’t decided on that one yet. But there is still plenty of time.

And speaking of time, I can feel it slipping away from me. So it is back to work for me. with luck tomorrow life will be back to an regular work day. One can dream right?

The Daily: December 7th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. Today, my nose is a little less runny and the sneezing is thankfully less. Which means that it is actually just the up and down weather and not an actual cold. Saturday the temps were in the upper sixties to low seventies (I know far too warm for this time of year) but it was warm air pushed in front of a rain storm. The rains came and it is now in the thirties. Such changes always make my nose feel somewhat offended. Hopefully the temps will settle down and we won’t have such major shifts for a while.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

I’m not counting on it though.

Even though the sun has actually started to peek through the clouds, the air is raw and damp and large portions of the walking trail are flooded, so workouts today were again in the sunroom. This time with an actual bit of sun included. I have to say the hand weights and yoga mat from Prosource Fit were a great investment. (they still have a 60% off sale going on right now). I’m not comfortable at the gym right now and sometimes weather prevents the walking trail from being used. I like having the back up of the weights and yoga inside the house.so I can still move a bit even if I don’t get my full work out in.

while I will never really be a gym sort of person, I’ve incorporated daily exercise into my routine for so long at this point that if I don’t at least get a little bit in each day I feel really off balance and twitchy. So it was You Tube Yoga and some workouts with weights today.

This afternoon’s sheet mask is going to be the I’m Lavender Mask Sheet from Tony Moly. I think I’ve used their Hemp mask before but I don’t recall using the lavender one so this will be a fun one to try. Hopefully it will be both hydrating and soothing without being overly floral. I don’t like when sheet masks are overly floral. They tend to make me feel like I should wash my face after, which sort of defeats the purpose of the mask serum in the first place. So we will see how that goes. I’ll let you know on the end of month masking recap.

For now, let’s talk makeup.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Figs and Rouge Blurring Primer

Foundation: KVD Vegan Beauty Lock It Powder Foundation

Bronzer: Trestique Bronzing Stick

Blush: Rodial Blush Drops

Eyeshadow: Storybook Cosmetics Little Briar Rose Palette

Mascara: Roen Lash Cake Black

Lips: MAC Love me Lipstick in Bated Breath

Glasses: ThinOptics

I forgot to take my reading glasses off when taking the pics. Personally, I love these readers. they are so light weight that they make no dent in the makeup and are super easy to wear. Also the case clips onto the back of my cell phone so I always have them with me. They are the MVP of my work life at the moment. Oh and if you think you may need readers but don’t know the strength, ThinOptics now has a Clarity kit so you can easily find out. My eyes have always been bad so glasses and readers have been a part of my life for a long time. And having readers I like to wear makes me squint less, so it helps with the fine lines around my eyes almost as much as the eye cream. After all not helping them to form is better than fighting the ones already there.

The primer and foundation I’ve been using for over a week now and I will be posting my full reviews on Thursday. The short version is that the primer is good at blurring and the foundation is more full coverage than I would have given powder credit for. In addition it doesn’t look all that powdery when on. Admittedly I used more cream products with it and skipped powder itself most of the time when using it, which helped.

The we have the blush drops. I like cream blushes. well, I like some cream brushes. I’m just not sure i like this one. when the drops are first placed on the skin I thought, that is a bit bright. then I blended it in and thought, where did it go. I added a little more and when blended it looked better. Of course today I think my entire face looks a bit on the pink side, but I’m not sure that is the blush. I certainly didn’t apply it on my nose. I think that might be due to the sneezing.

With the blush, it is a light pigment on the skin that easily blends away. I think I might want to try it with a BB cream to see if it lends itself more to a more natural look. In addition to the color, I am not entirely certain I like the texture of it against my skin. It is a heavier weight than some of my other cream blushes. I may actually swap it out for a different cream blush tomorrow so I can do more of a comparison, but to me it feels a little heavier on the skin. I may play around with it a bit more, but at the moment it isn’t looking like a top product for me,.

The storybook Cosmetics palette I always enjoy using, as long as I stay away with the blues. It is the rosier tones in this palette that I really like. The shades can be a bit powdery so tap off your brush before applying. They do blend well without becoming muddy. However they also tend to fade a but by the end of the day. You will still know you have eyeshadow on after eight hors of wear but it won’t be nearly as vibrant.

It you are interested in the palette, when I went to grab a link for reference I say that it is on sale. Usually it is $55 but right now it is $15. I think several of their other palettes are on sale as well. It is good eyeshadow, just remember to tap your brush and not to expect it to last for a full 12 hours. It’s big drawback is it’s size which is why I have it out as a decorative element rather than in the drawer. It simply takes up a lot of space. The book design is cute though. So at least it looks nice out.

The Roen mascara is a good basic mascara. It works well, but there is nothing spectacular about it. I will happily use this until it is done, but once gone I will see no real reason to repurchase it.

And finally we reach the lips. MAC is a long time favorite for the lips (although there aren’t a liot of their other products I really gravitate towards). This is a great color for me and feels very comfortable to wear. It is one I will continue to use and one that I will certainly replace when it is gone.

So that my darlings was today’s makeup look, the good, the bad, the indifferent. Well maybe indecisive would be a better descriptor than indifferent. either way there are products I love and products I will just use for now.

The Eyes Have it…with ThinOptics

ThinOptics glasses sent to me for the purpose of review

I have always had bad eyesight. I have a set of high prescription glasses that are thankfully fitted with thinner lenses than once existed so I wasn’t stuck with coke bottle lenses. I was fitted with contacts as soon as it was a viable option. There are days when I still wear my glasses, although I need to get them replaced at some point. For me, reading glasses were always an inevitability.

I have now reached the point where reading glasses are also a necessity. I tried fighting it, but it wasn’t a battle I was going to win. It was even rather silly to engage in the battle. I think the only reason I fought reading glasses at all was because I didn’t want to look like my grandmother. Which is silly. Especially when you go with a pair of non-grandmother looking glasses. Not that there is anything wrong with looking like a grandmother. I am just not there yet.

Luckily I found glasses that weren’t grannyesque and am no longer squinting at everything.

So, now even when I am wearing my contacts, I still need a pair of glasses around. And let’s face it, I do a lot of reading on a daily basis. There are issues with reading glasses that I never faced with my regular glasses.

The sleek packaging is kept to a minimum and fits in the mailbox

With my regular glasses, wearing them was a necessity. Taking them off and setting them down was really not an option. Without my glasses everything beyond a foot away is kind of an impressionistic painting in motion. while it does give me a better appreciation of Monet, it means that on days I wear my glasses, they stay firmly on my nose.

Reading glasses are a different beast.

You can’t wear them constantly. They mess with your regular vison if you do. They are meant to bring words into focus as you read them. So when you aren’t reading them, you take them off and set them to the side, you shove them onto your head and forget them. They go missing or turn out to be stashed in random places around the house.

In addition most of them are heavy enough to leave dents in your makeup. Or at least mine are. I’m sure my regular glasses do as well, but I can only see them, theoretically, when I take them off. Admittedly I have to get really close to a mirror to do that.

The solution to both issues?

ThinOptics.

At least in my case. While ThinOptics graciously sent over this new pair, I stumbled on the site a while ago and have been wearing one of their black pairs of glasses for a long time now. I’ve mentioned them in countless posts, but I’ve never done a dedicated post about them.

When in place, the glasses look just like any other pair of reading glasses. They are fantastically comfortable and quite durable. These are tortoise shell which I really like. They are however ultra thin and lightweight so there is no divot to the makeup on the face. In fact they are one of the few pairs of glasses I find easy to forget I am wearing.

In addition to being super light on the face, they fold up to be super thin. Seriously, the thickest part is the hinges holding on the ear pieces. And even that is only a few centimeter’s wide. In addition the glasses come with a case.

I know, not a shocking reveal. However this thin case is composed of thick plastic and magnetically clips to the back of your phone. Which means that as long as you don’t lose your phone, you don’t lose your glasses. It also means that when you need to get them to read your phone, they are right there on your phone.

I’ll admit, when I am working at my desk, I clip the case to the magnetic whiteboard so it is right there, but I shift it to the back of my phone when I go out. The glass case is durable enough that it can ride along in my purse without damage the edges of the case may get a bit scuffed up, but the glasses are well protected.

So for me, ThinOptics solves two of my biggest issues with reading glasses. Now they are always there when I need them and they don’t wreck my make up no matter how many times I take them off and put them on again. Well they also don’t look granny-esque so I suppose it fits all three of my main criteria.

They have even smaller ones if you can believe it. On their site they even have a set that folds up and has a case that clips to your keychain. There are also blue light filter glasses and sunglasses, all available in the thin format so you can take them anywhere with no muss and no fuss.

While they are also well priced, currently Thin Optics has a sale going on from today through November 25th, you can get 35% off plus free shipping on orders over $19.95. I know shipping is crazy right now but it took less than four days from shipping confirmation to arrival for these glasses, which at the moment seems like a minor miracle.

These glasses are the perfect gift for anyone you know who wears reading glasses (or needs a new pair) or the perfect treat for yourself this holiday season. Reading glasses are a necessity for me, but there is no reason they can’t be sleek and stylish as well.

And if you think you might need reading glasses, but aren’t entirely certain of the strength, ThinOptics just introduced a Clarity Kit so that you can find your perfect strength. I personally love these readers and am so grateful for ThinOptics for sending a new pair to me. I know I will get a lot of use out of them for a long time to come.
