Good afternoon my darlings. Can you believe it is February already? I do not know what happened to January. It felt like forever when slogging through it, but now it feels like someone may have stolen a week. January always sort of feels like that though. Part of it I think is the weather and part is that by the time January hits I am accustomed to having holidays and days off. They tend to break the weeks up into much smaller things.
Of course this year the major holidays were all on the weekends so the weeks were less chopped up.
Still seeing February on the calendar this morning made me realize how close Valentines day is. To be honest it was never a big holiday for me. I never really paid it much attention until my babydoll came along. And no that isn’t a lovey dovey sort of statement. Although I do love him dearly.
The fact is, my baby is a huge chocolate fiend. while I tend to be a little on the picky side with my chocolate, leaning more towards dark chocolate and the more savory side of the chocolate world. My baby doll loves all things chocolate. There is no discrimination.
I am pretty sure his happy place is right next to the chocolate waterfall in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. He’d be civilized and dip it out with a dipper rather than contaminating the chocolate though. He told me the first time saw that movie (the one with Gene Wilder) he gasped No when Augustus fell in and felt bad for the chocolate.
And in my babydoll’s world Valentines day is all about chocolate. I actually get to buy him the big heart shaped box filled with chocolates and watch his eyes light up. It is kind of adorable. i always try to get him something that isn’t edible as a present as well, I just haven’t figured that out yet. So when I flipped the calendar page I saw the note ‘buy chocolates and figure out gift’. of course i also have to find a good hiding place. Last year he found the chocolates early and gave me the puppy dog eyes until i let him have a piece early. This year, i will need a better hiding place. i don’t know where that is. Christmas I can hide things no problem, but come valentines day my babydoll is a chocolate seeking missile. That will require a bit of thought though.

I initially intended to go in a more natural direction today. I tried the brown of this bareMinerals palette out and thought, okay this is going to be a low pigment kind of natural look. And then I tried the green. Wow. It was more pigmented than I expected, so I went a little less low key than I initially planned. The shadow was pigmented and a bit bright for me so I toned down the green with the brown. the shadows blended beautifully and there was no patchiness. Also, very little fall out from the green. Because I was expecting a low pigment shadow I put on my face makeup first and there was no issue. I do automatically tap my shadow brush before applying shadow so any fall out there would have been came off with that. I was quite impressed with the eyeshadow to be honest. The green is the only deep pigment (matte) in the six pan palette. So over all it is pretty neutral. but I really like this green as a pop of color. Today was all about the green, but i think it blends well with the other shades and I could use it as an accent rather than the focus. While I have used various bareMinerals products for years, this is my first experience with their eyeshadow and I have to say I think I may have to look into more shadows from the brand.
And not just pick up their lip products. Today I sent with the bareMinerals bullet style lipstick. The deeper tone seemed to suit the green. plus I like the berry shades. It is also a very moisturizing lipstick. At this time of year my lips are fighting a constant battle with chapping so I tend to lean into this sort of formula. It doesn’t dry, but it also doesn’t really dry down. It does leave lip prints. The lipstick makes me choose a dark coffee mug. It will wear off and need to be touched up in the afternoon (like any bullet lipstick) but even when it has lost the color, my lips still feel moisturized. I’m willing to switch out coffee mugs for that.
Speaking of dry, my skin has been a little on the dry side, so I used the Elf Puff Puff Primer. It works well with the No 7 foundation (one of my faves) and it helps kind of lock in moisture as well as makeup. I actually need to reach for it a bit more. It just tends to get buried under more porefilling primers. It is supposed to hydrate and brighten the skin, but I don’t think of it as a moisturizing primer. It is lighter than most moisturizing primers. I tend to have issues with them because while my skin may need a little extra hydration in the winter, I don’t have really dry skin. This primer gives a little extra hydration without being the hydration for really dry skin. If that makes sense. It hydrates but it doesn’t go over the top with it. i can actually use it year round. I think i just have it in my head that this is the time to reach for it. I’ll work on that.
The PUR palette performed well. Which isn’t a surprise as it usually performs well. It s a good little palette. I forgot to actually use the highlighter today but the other three are in use and I like the way it looks. I also like the Stila mascara. I had a less dramatic mascara picked out but this green just needed something to make the lashes pop so i went back for the Stila. Really, the more I use this, the more i really like it. This may actually be my new favorite mascara. Don’t worry. I’ll still try others. But Stila maybe stealing my heart.
And that my darlings is today’s look. The green of the bareMinerals shadow took me by surprise in a good way and I just had fun with it. But alas, I must get back to work and leave fun behind. February is kicking off with a bang. A good bang, but a busy one. Which I suppose is better than being bored. Somehow i don’t think boredom will trouble me much this month. And when I do get a break, I need to find a safe place to hide Valentine’s Day Chocolates. Kind of a fun little puzzler, right? Hopefully your February is off to a good start as well.
