The Daily: February 1st, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Can you believe it is February already? I do not know what happened to January. It felt like forever when slogging through it, but now it feels like someone may have stolen a week. January always sort of feels like that though. Part of it I think is the weather and part is that by the time January hits I am accustomed to having holidays and days off. They tend to break the weeks up into much smaller things.

Of course this year the major holidays were all on the weekends so the weeks were less chopped up.

Still seeing February on the calendar this morning made me realize how close Valentines day is. To be honest it was never a big holiday for me. I never really paid it much attention until my babydoll came along. And no that isn’t a lovey dovey sort of statement. Although I do love him dearly.

The fact is, my baby is a huge chocolate fiend. while I tend to be a little on the picky side with my chocolate, leaning more towards dark chocolate and the more savory side of the chocolate world. My baby doll loves all things chocolate. There is no discrimination.

I am pretty sure his happy place is right next to the chocolate waterfall in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. He’d be civilized and dip it out with a dipper rather than contaminating the chocolate though. He told me the first time saw that movie (the one with Gene Wilder) he gasped No when Augustus fell in and felt bad for the chocolate.

And in my babydoll’s world Valentines day is all about chocolate. I actually get to buy him the big heart shaped box filled with chocolates and watch his eyes light up. It is kind of adorable. i always try to get him something that isn’t edible as a present as well, I just haven’t figured that out yet. So when I flipped the calendar page I saw the note ‘buy chocolates and figure out gift’. of course i also have to find a good hiding place. Last year he found the chocolates early and gave me the puppy dog eyes until i let him have a piece early. This year, i will need a better hiding place. i don’t know where that is. Christmas I can hide things no problem, but come valentines day my babydoll is a chocolate seeking missile. That will require a bit of thought though.

Today’s look:

Primer: Puff Puff Primer from Elf

Foundation: No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum Foundation

Blush/Bronzer/Highlight/Powder: PUR Cosmetics 4-in-1 skin perfecting powders palette

Eyeshadow: Natural Oasis Gen Nude Eyeshadow Palette from bareMinerals

Mascara: Stila Huge Extreme Lash mascara

Lips: bareMinerals Moisturizing Lipstick in Perception

I initially intended to go in a more natural direction today. I tried the brown of this bareMinerals palette out and thought, okay this is going to be a low pigment kind of natural look. And then I tried the green. Wow. It was more pigmented than I expected, so I went a little less low key than I initially planned. The shadow was pigmented and a bit bright for me so I toned down the green with the brown. the shadows blended beautifully and there was no patchiness. Also, very little fall out from the green. Because I was expecting a low pigment shadow I put on my face makeup first and there was no issue. I do automatically tap my shadow brush before applying shadow so any fall out there would have been came off with that. I was quite impressed with the eyeshadow to be honest. The green is the only deep pigment (matte) in the six pan palette. So over all it is pretty neutral. but I really like this green as a pop of color. Today was all about the green, but i think it blends well with the other shades and I could use it as an accent rather than the focus. While I have used various bareMinerals products for years, this is my first experience with their eyeshadow and I have to say I think I may have to look into more shadows from the brand.

And not just pick up their lip products. Today I sent with the bareMinerals bullet style lipstick. The deeper tone seemed to suit the green. plus I like the berry shades. It is also a very moisturizing lipstick. At this time of year my lips are fighting a constant battle with chapping so I tend to lean into this sort of formula. It doesn’t dry, but it also doesn’t really dry down. It does leave lip prints. The lipstick makes me choose a dark coffee mug. It will wear off and need to be touched up in the afternoon (like any bullet lipstick) but even when it has lost the color, my lips still feel moisturized. I’m willing to switch out coffee mugs for that.

Speaking of dry, my skin has been a little on the dry side, so I used the Elf Puff Puff Primer. It works well with the No 7 foundation (one of my faves) and it helps kind of lock in moisture as well as makeup. I actually need to reach for it a bit more. It just tends to get buried under more porefilling primers. It is supposed to hydrate and brighten the skin, but I don’t think of it as a moisturizing primer. It is lighter than most moisturizing primers. I tend to have issues with them because while my skin may need a little extra hydration in the winter, I don’t have really dry skin. This primer gives a little extra hydration without being the hydration for really dry skin. If that makes sense. It hydrates but it doesn’t go over the top with it. i can actually use it year round. I think i just have it in my head that this is the time to reach for it. I’ll work on that.

The PUR palette performed well. Which isn’t a surprise as it usually performs well. It s a good little palette. I forgot to actually use the highlighter today but the other three are in use and I like the way it looks. I also like the Stila mascara. I had a less dramatic mascara picked out but this green just needed something to make the lashes pop so i went back for the Stila. Really, the more I use this, the more i really like it. This may actually be my new favorite mascara. Don’t worry. I’ll still try others. But Stila maybe stealing my heart.

And that my darlings is today’s look. The green of the bareMinerals shadow took me by surprise in a good way and I just had fun with it. But alas, I must get back to work and leave fun behind. February is kicking off with a bang. A good bang, but a busy one. Which I suppose is better than being bored. Somehow i don’t think boredom will trouble me much this month. And when I do get a break, I need to find a safe place to hide Valentine’s Day Chocolates. Kind of a fun little puzzler, right? Hopefully your February is off to a good start as well.

The Daily: January 27th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today has been a strange day. I didn’t end up walking because my legs were just not happy with me for all the extra walking I put in earlier this week. I think I might have worked myself out a bit.

I did have a lot of running around to do today. Last week I put off as many errands as I could because the weather was not the sort I wanted to drive around town in. Plus a lot of things were closed because shop owners didn’t want their employees driving around in that sort of weather either.

I respect that.

However, temps have been dropping today and it looks like snow overnight with mixed rain, sleet and snow tomorrow, so I decided errands should best be done today. So around town I went. When I finished my needed errands I popped into the second hand shop to see what they had. Mostly just to browse because I was feeling virtuous about all the errands and felt like I could spend some time just meandering if I wanted. So my intent was to just stroll and look.. Maybe pick up a ring from their large collection. For some reason this seems to be the store where people donate a lot of costume jewelry. I love finding funky rings there.

Today it wasn’t a ring i found, but a cape. A red wool cape to be exact. And it fits me perfectly. I’ll be taking it to the dry cleaners with the few other things we have that need to go, but I just had to share the fabulousness with you.

Tell me that is not a fabulous red cape. I am ridiculously excited about this and I have to say that I will be building my Valentine’s Day outfit around the cape. It also reminded me that I needed to start preparing for Valentine’s Day. I don’t know if you are doing your own prep work for the day, but even when on my own I always used this as an excuse to buy myself a new set of pretty undies. Even if I know no one but me will see them, I just have a weakness for fabulous undergarments. As strange as it sounds, I always feel more confident when I am wearing pretty underwear. In case you haven’t seen them yet, The Underclub has just released new sets for Valentine’s Day. They have an entire Plus sized collection.

Plus Size All Black Lingerie Box

I love my monthly subscription with them and I absolutely adore the fact that their sizes range from XS to XXXL. The inclusivity makes me happy, but so does the underwear. They are just good quality pieces. And the fact that they actually released a plus sized collection for valentines day, just makes me so happy. I encourage all of you to check them out. I’ll put the links below.

So that gives me outer wear and underwear for Valentines day. Now I just need to figure out the bits between and then figure out if my babydoll has a homemade meal request or if we are going to get food from elsewhere. It seems like there is a lot of time, but Valentine’s day is creeping up. And for me February is always a jam packed month This one looks to be no exception. So if I can square everything away early, I’ll be a happy camper.

Today alas there was no makeup. I worked at my desk and then put a mask on to run around town. To be honest when I know I am going to be wearing a mask for the better part of a day, I only slap on a little mascara. Often I’ll add a lip mask to wear under the face mask, but that’s about it. Today I remembered the lip mask but forgot the mascara. It was not my most glamorous day. Which is perhaps why the fates decided I needed a cape. A reminder to be more fabulous. I suppose I should admit that tonight I will be going through my lipsticks and seeing which lipstick pairs best with this cape. I have several reds I like wearing, but I think it will either have to match or be a completely neutral shade. It’s just a little bit of Thursday night fin for me.
