The Daily: March 23rd, 2021

Today has been interesting. Since I actually want to the gym yesterday, and plan to go back tomorrow, I am having to adjust my schedule. Oddly it isn’t the actual work out part that takes the time. I end up working out the same length of time there that I did at home, although I do end up working a bit harder at the gym. My muscles certainly feel it today.

The time difference is the drive time.

I actually spend more time driving to and from the gym than I do working out. It is something that has to be added to my schedule and adjusted around.

It is actually one of the kind of amusing things about trying to lose weight. When you decide to make an effort to actually lose weight, or become healthier people will talk about a lot of things. They will talk about the aching muscles and the adjustments their bodies need to make. They will talk about clothing and workouts and even the effects of water. I’ve even found articles dealing with the rubbing of cloth against sensitive bits that runners face from their clothing.

One thing that doesn’t get a lot of mention is that if you are putting in a serious effort you really have to consciously sit down with your schedule and plan. It is very easy to say, Oh I can easily incorporate an extra fifteen to twenty minute workout into my schedule no big deal. But it is never just fifteen to twenty minutes. Unless you are hanging out in your workout clothes all day, there is the changing clothes, the going to wherever your workout is going to be, doing the fifteen to twenty minute workout, driving back, showering and changing clothes (along with applying makeup if you are doing that) and and then getting back into the swing of your day.

There are ways to minimize things like getting up early and starting your day with the workout or finishing work and ending the day with it, but those require adjustments as well. Family meals might be shifted around. Homework assistance adjusted as well as a bunch of other little details.

The details vary from person to person, but the point is the same. You have to plan around it and that a fifteen to twenty minute workout will always take longer than fifteen or twenty minutes.

I forgot this in my excitement about going back to the gym (and wow i never thought I would ever put the words excitement and gym in the same sentence)

While I am still doing my walks, I am adding in the twenty minute workout three times a week. So I am in the middle of adjustment. I’ll get there, I am just a little upset at myself for forgetting i needed to think it through. Hopefully you can learn from my mistake and if adding to your routine, take a few minutes and think it through so you don’t get too tangled up.

One good thing about playing catch up at my desk today is that aside from my walk I am not really going anywhere so I can wear one of my favorite pair of dangling earrings. These are a real pain to wear with a mask on so i haven’t been wearing them that much. I believe they are in the shape of lilies. I honestly can’t remember where I got them. Which kind of bugs me as I would very much purchase more jewelry from whoever did make them if I knew where I actually got them from in the first place. I remember purchasing them online but I can’t remember the site. It will continue to irk me.

There were several repeat products from yesterday. The bronzer I used, the Trestique Bronzer Stick is really too heavy to pair with the NYX tinted moisturizer so I tried to use a light hand. I still think it is a bit heavier than I planned. However it will be the last time i use this stick. I thought I had more product, but alas I did not. The Trestique is now empty. It will be repurchased as I really like it with my foundations, it is just a little much for tinted moisturizers though.

I did however want to use the NYX Bare with Me today because I am testing out the K Voss Bronzing Potion Glow Cream and the EcoFabulous Blush and I wanted a variety of foundations to work with so I could see how it performed. Thus far I am liking both products. Plus, i like the NYX Bare with Me.

I picked up the Illamasqua highlighter again because I forgot to put it away yesterday and because I really like it. It was no hardship to use it twice in a row. I like the early Bird Palette as well. It has been a while since I used this Pretty Vulgar Palette. I recently did a palette declutter and I am rotating through my palettes to see if I still want to keep all of the palettes I still have (as I still think I kept too many) My rule is that if I don’t use them this year or find myself avoiding reaching for them this year then at my end of the year declutter they will go away.

To be honest, I forgot i had this palette. It was small enough that it got buried. I am very glad I unearthed it and i will be using it more. I like the softer colors of the mattes. The shimmers too are a little more muted. I am not as big a fan of them as I am of their mattes. They don’t give a massive shine pay off and apply best with a fingertip. There are enough mattes in this palette to do a nice soft look. It is one i will definately be playing around with more now that I have remembered that I have it in my collection.

The Daily: February 23rd, 2021

Do you know what I love about February? As soon as you start planning around the weather, it changes. On Sunday the weekly weather report announced that we had 90-100% chance of rain every day this week. Monday, we had off and on rain and the morning when I woke up it was bright and sunny and the weather report said that there is no chance of rain until Friday.

I’m not entirely certain I believe him.

But it does give me a bit of a walking window. And since i already have the new batteries in the Wii (both board and remote) I played Mario Kart with my baby doll last night. The hardest part was resisting the urge to load up on snacks. It is a game that tends to be sponsored by both Funyuns and THC in equal parts.With an occasional side nod to Twizzlers. Going for snacks once the music starts playing feels automatic.

I might stick to the Wii Bowling in the future. It’s an arm workout and better for my waistline.

But today, I stuck to my calories, did my morning exercises and went on a walk so I feel pretty good. I really am liking the shorter workouts daily rather than the longer ones. I’d like to gradually increase the daily workouts, but i think the daily ones are easier for me to make a habit than the every other day ones. Get up do my exercises and then move on with my day seems like a habit i can maintain. Once the habit is there, I’ll start lengthening them a little at a time and then maybe change some of my work outs with the ones put together by professionals. Although I have to say, I really like just having a list of exercises to get through rather than an instructor. I just don’t deal well with bright and shiny people in the morning.

I need a surly irate fitness instructor with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth, a voice heavy with mockery when they say such motivational things like – “It’s ten more crunches, you big baby, just finish them up so we can all move on with our day.”

Now that is a work out video I’d pay good money for. Where does that work out stream? I’ll sign up. Surely not all fitness instructors are super perky. I’m willing to compromise on the cigarette. They don’t have to be a smoker, they just have to mock. That’s the kind of work out video I’d make if i was going to make one. It’d call it – Just get your butt moving.

In case you are wondering, this is also why I stick to just listening exercises in my workout posts.

But I digress. Thus far I’ve managed to stick to my walks and if the weather holds I might be able to keep it aup all week. If the rains come I have a back up plan. I like having a back up plan.

The Scale: February 19th, 2021

Oh, the best laid plans.  As you may remember my plan this week was to stay the course and repeat my weekly work out from the week before.  I figured that as Valentine’s day treats mostly sabotaged them, I could actually see the work out in full this week. 

While I did manage to get in all three of my morning workouts,  the walks were less successful. I was rained out, snowed out and had to assist with an automotive break down when I tried for indoor calorie burning with the Wii Fit. At the moment all of our appliances, both those used inside the house and without, are behaving.  And the Wii Fit balance board has an entirely new set of batteries. So I think next week, since the weather still looks a bit on the uneven side, I am going to plan to use my Wii Fit and then if the skies clear and the walking trail drains, go for a walk.  As in my area the weather is always unsettled in February through March I may be expanding my use of the Wii Fit. We’ll see how it works with calorie burning next week as a test.

With everything going on this week, I did not lose the pound I planned to lose.  I didn’t even come close.  I also had a Holiday lunch out on Monday and when  car trouble happened, we ended up having both lunch and dinner out as well. So while most days I did well with my calories, there were some slip ups. 

Quite frankly having any loss was a bit of a pleasant surprise this week. I am hoping to get myself back in gear.  Life keeps intervening so I’m not planning on anything but attempting to maintain my system of workouts.  After all the only way forward is just to keep going.  I’m shifting course because of the weather and dreaming of the day that I can once again comfortable go to the gym, but for now, I will try to add more in door calorie burning workouts to my slate so I can still burn calories even when the weather isn’t letting me walk.

So not a major loss this week, but not a gain.  A need for a new indoor work out plan arises and I will post my upcoming plan for the week on Sunday.  Until then I am just going to keep moving.

The Daily: December 9th, 2020

Hello my darlings and welcome to the afternoon. For me it felt like time dragged slowly until it reached about ten am and then some how slalomed into the afternoon.I think it might be that I had several big things to do this morning and then after they were done I had a long list of smaller items to check off the list. Since the smaller items went quickly time felt like it sped up.

Perception is a wonderful thing, huh?

this morning my thighs were not having any workouts. I lined them up. I dressed the part and then in my warm up squats my thighs vetoed the activity. So I made coffee and got an earlier start to my day. As the weather was nice today I went on two longer walks to make up for the skipped work out. So calories were sill burned, just not in the way I planned.

Adaptation is the secret to many things in life, including a weight loss plan. So today I adapted. I also realized I have been playing way too many nature documentaries before bed. I’m pretty sure I fell asleep to a documentary featuring both the Strangler Fig and the Pitcher plant, both of which have adapted to their environments. It was on the Disney Channel and I think it was the Paradise islands series. In case you are wondering what i was watching. I find shows like that are a really good way to counteract whatever news show I saw earlier in the evening so that i don’t focus on the traumatizing events of the world just before going to sleep. I like keeping up on what is going on in the world, I just don’t like to do so before falling asleep.

i started with the ancient history documentary series because I find them fascinating and they tend to promote dreams of fantastic ancient cities and caravans as well as archaeological dig sites. those took me through June and then i switched to the Nature ones. Unfortunately I am beginning to run out of Nature Documentaries. I may be breaking out my boxed set of Gilligan’s Island soon.

But that is another story. In addition to the walk, I have been doing pretty good with my calories today. i kept them on the short side today though because while dinner may be a salad, we also picked up a lovely Stilton and a clothbound cheddar (I believe it is Grafton Village). My babydoll picked up a nice Riesling to try as well. I’ll be using moderation, but the extra walk didn’t hurt.

Hopefully tomorrow my thighs will have recovered enough for another round of workouts. Actually I’m certain they will. I just hadn’t done those sorts of exercises enough in the past few weeks for my body to get used to them. The muscles are stiff but there is no real pain. so I’ll work through the stiffness every other day until it lessens and then increase the workout. It will workout the muscles and not cause me any permanent damage. something everyone can live with.

The Daily: August 25th, 2020

I hope Tuesday is treating everyone well. As for me, it has been a mixed bag. I got up with my alarm today after only one smashing of the snooze button. So as I was up I started with a few of the Chloe Ting Videos. I went with this Warm Up which came in at a little over 6 minutes, Followed by the Get Shredded 🔥 12 Min Full Body HIIT Workout | Summer Shred Challenge, which lasted for 13 minutes. It didn’t seem like much while I was doing it but by the end of it, I was dripping with sweat. I felt really good afterwards and went on my walk. I had to cut a leg off my lap so it was only an hour long this morning as they rains started. We’ve had intense humidity for the past few days, no doubt pushed up by the tropical storms hitting the coast to the south.

It has been more or less raining off and on ever since so my one hour long walk today will have to suffice. It was just under three miles. I adjusted my caloric intake to account for the missing afternoon walk. Even if it does stop raining and the sky is clear after dinner, the park will no doubt be flooded and the mosquitoes floating around in vast swarms looking for their latest target. I have no desire to be their next target. Fingers crossed the water retreats by morning.

My abs are kind of starting to get a little sore from the morning videos and I suspect that even if i do manage to get up tomorrow morning I will want to talk myself out of doing them. To help combat this I have placed a post it note reminder on my bathroom mirror. the post it note just says ‘skipped walk yesterday.’ I’m hoping this will make me feel as though skipping a morning workout so soon after skipping a walk is not a good idea. I’m not at my brightest when I first wake up so there is the possibility that the trickery will work. As long as I have to go to the bathroom before I have my coffee, I’m golden. I become smarter once caffeinated. Or at least awake enough to understand that I am attempting to trick myself. It becomes more difficult to trick myself then.

Although I am still feeling a little off about giving up my scale for the month, I have to say these short posts reminding me of what I have done and have helped remind me to log my food and keep track of things. I did this at the beginning of my weight loss journey but then fell off when i thought I knew what I was doing. The tracking is helping to keep me focused and to be honest, I really like not having to think as much about what I am eating. Which sounds strange I know, but hear me out.

With the food diary, I enter the dinner I have planned first thing in the morning. Then I know how many calories I can eat the rest of the day. When I enter an exercise, the system calculates the change for me to keep me on track without having to think about it. The only thing I have to remember is to enter what I eat and what I do. Dinner is the hardest part since it is the most complicated meal of my day so if i knock it out early, I feel like I’ve done the hard part. At least that is the way it feels to me right now. In a few more weeks I may be annoyed with it (which happened last time which is how I got out of the habit of keeping a food diary.) But for now I am really liking it.

So my darlings, that has been my day, fitness wise. On food I am good and barring the sudden inexplicable urge for peanut butter fudge at midnight, I should be okay on my calories. I hope those of you working along on your own fitness journey are doing what works for you.

My Daily: August 24th, 2020

Afternoon all, I hope your Monday was a good one. For those following along with my weight loss journey, for the next 30 days I am not going to be getting on the scale. Instead I am going to be monitoring what I eat and trying to hit my daily workout goals. I will be going off of how I feel rather than what the scale tells me. My next time on the scale will be September 25th. So during the week I am going to post a little bit about my day.

This morning was interesting. Our power got knocked out by a storm last night so waking up was a bit of a scramble so I missed my 25 minutes of flexibility/stability training (which I usually do to a you tube video.)

I did get in a long walk before I started work. It was 1 hr and 45 minutes of walking and I logged in 5.4 miles. As today remained cool (and I was stuck on a plot point) I ended up going on a shorter afternoon walk as well. It was just 45 minutes (one lap around the main part of the walking trail) equalling 2.3 miles.

I remembered to record everything I ate (I’m currently using as my food diary), I am right on track and have left myself enough calories for my soup and salad dinner tonight as well. Over all I am feeling pretty good about how my week has kicked off. Tonight I plan to look up the calorie burning possibilities of some basic exercises and come up with a simple routine that I can follow from the listed movements in the exercise app on

I know it is a good thing that I am going without a scale for the month, it just makes me a little nervous and the more details I have the better I feel about it. Otherwise I am on track. Sweaty after my afternoon walk and ready for a shower, but still feeling pretty good. Hopefully I can keep this trend going. I’ll check in with you tomorrow and let you know. Right now, it’s shower and hydration time. Luckily we just put a new canister in the soda stream so I have fresh extra bubbly water to consume. I don’t really like any of the flavorings that you can put in soda stream water, but I do find I drink more water if it has bubbles than I do if it doesn’t. So viva la seltzer and bring on the bubbles.
