Let’s talk Palace Identity/Zeesea Cosmetics

I have looked at the Zeesea/Palace Identity website for years now. They did a beautiful collaboration with the British Museum for their Egyptian collection and it is just stunning. I ordered the pressed powder a while back and while the powder is a decent powder, the packaging is spectacular. I have since eyed many of their lipsticks from both the Egyptian collection and the Palace Identity collection trying to decide if they are items I want to add to my collection. As always it is the look of them that draws me in.

And that is the thing with Zeesea products. They look so beautiful that they knock most other considerations out of my head. Recently they released a subscription box. (I think May was the first one but i could be wrong. I do know it is less than six months old). The link will take you to their website if you are interested in the details of that. As I have recently been looking to shake up my subscription box list, I decided to look into it. In doing so I realized that the only item I had tried from Zeesea was their pressed powder. I wasn’t sure this was enough to commit to a $40 subscription box filled with their products each month. so I give in and purchased the eyeshadow compact that I found so pretty to give their shadow formula a try.

packaging. bag inside box inside bubble wrap inside bubble wrap inside mailer.

It is just as pretty in person as it is on the website. And the packaging was spectacular. I don’t think I have ever received anything as well packed as this palette was. I think someone decided that whatever else happened their shadow was not going to break in transit. And it didn’t it arrived safe and sound.

swatches: L to r: Coral, darker central stripe of color, shimmer, light pink flower

This palette has four shades. As you can see the flower to the left is light pink then there are three bands of shadow to the side. The top is a goldish shimmer the middle is a pinkish tan and the bottom is coral. (there are no shade names or numbers given but this is Compact #02 on their website). I chose this one as these are colors I will use. i was hoping that they would prove to be a palette I could reach for often and possible travel with. The compact is sturdy enough to be used in a purse and it would eliminate a lot of space hogging eyeshadow palettes.

The swatches look pale and delicate. This is not a palette that swatches well. I tried multiple times with both finger swatches and brushes. It simply doesn’t swatch well. However on the eye it turns out that all but the shimmer are highly pigmented. the photo to the right is just the light pink of the flower applied to the eye in a one and done look.

I applied the powder on the outer corner and blended in. I dipped the brush in the pan once. It is darker where I touched the brush down but it was able to blend out across the lid.

Is it my favorite formula of eyeshadow? No. But it is something that I will use, especially since it is here. The thing is, I will probably end up using this more than I would other palettes with just okay formulas because it is so pretty that i want to keep reaching for it. I already find myself trying to figure out where on my dressing table I can put this so that I can use it as a decorative item. And I know if it is out, i will reach for it more often simply because it is out.

Does this look better than it performs? Yes. It is simply a beautiful package. the product isn’t bad. It is a decent eyeshadow palette. Knowing this I don’t have the need to stock up on all of the other numbered palettes in the line. This one had the most shades i will use and one of these pretty palettes is enough. If the formula had been utterly fantastic I might feel the need to build a collection. But it isn’t It is just a basically decent formula in a fabulous package.

Do I regret buying it? No. And I will probably pick up the few lipsticks that have shades I will use and have fabulously beautiful packaging as well. It does however make the subscription box option less attractive for me. The pretty packaging creates the desire and the product is decent enough that I can justify it, but it also means I will be selective in the items that I purchase from them. I will probably try various items, but i don’t need to build a large collection from the brand.

I know that is probably a bit more than expected for a four pan eyeshadow palette, but the truth is that this palette can’t really be thought about without discussing the packaging as that is a large part of why I bought it. It is also a large part of why I will buy from the brand in the future. They are pretty. ZeeSea cosmetics are decent shadows so I can justify buying the pretty compact, but on their own, they are just okay. If you are looking at the brand and wondering about individual items or their subscription box,. I hope this helps you with your decision making.

The Daily: July 25th, 2022

Can you believe we are entering the last week of July? I know in some ways it seems as though this summer has lasted forever and in others it has seemed like it has flashed by. The heat has made it just feel as though the days are dragging along without end. Yet somehow there is never enough time to get everything done.

I like to think it is because the heat makes me move slower.

I am pretty sure it is just because so many extra things have been happening. It seems like any time I start to find my footing this summer something has just sort of come along, looked at my schedule and laughed. For example tomorrow my babydoll is having dental surgery. He will be knocked completely out so I will be driving him to and from the dental visit and pharmacy. Which I don’t mind. I just though the surgery wasn’t until August. Which technically it was but they had a cancellation and asked if he wanted to move it up, which he did.

Hence the surprise.

I think the scheduling gremlins just saw I had a normal work week plotted out and decided that this was the best way to play with it.

So there is extra time in the office today. Also despite the brain boiling heat it is time to actually start thinking about the fall, back to school and soon enough I will have to write out my holiday shopping list. I try to at least get the list squared away when the dust settles from the back to school stuff. If I am really on my game then I will start picking up my Christmas gifts in the back to school sales and then use the black Friday/cyber Monday sales to knock out both the winter birthdays (there are a lot in my family) and whatever we need stocking up on for the rest of the winter season. (That way I can take advantage of the sales and get the items that need to be shipped out for Christmas ready well before they need to be shipped. I can also spread out the cost so my bank account isn’t attacked all at once which makes me feel better.)

I can already tell you, I am not going to be the early bird shopper this year. It is going to be one of those have the list ready for Black Friday/Cyber Monday kind of shopping years. I can feel it in my bones.

But at least I got up early enough this morning to get a walk in before the air turned swampy. I’m calling that a victory. Everyday should have at least one small victory and today, I am calling that mine.

Blush: Illamasqua Colour Veil Gel Blusher

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

Eyeshadow: Palace Identity Eyeshadow Compact

The pictures look a little more shaded than usual as there isn’t much sun today. There is a thick bank of clouds. It feels like rain. It looks like rain and I think it really wants to rain and yet, I suspect that it is just a tease. I think we will have our humidity just below the tipping point for the rest of the day so that we get the high heat and the super hi humidity but no rain.

I did go for a lighter look today with the bare minerals works for. Even though I am in shade, the bare minerals is a hair too light for my skin at the moment. Which I actually find interesting. Almost all of my tinted moisturizers are in shades for the summer because I end to reach for them more in the summer time. It is just simply too hot to have foundation on. Plus I find that the tinted moisturizers tend to melt less in the heat, behaving more like moisturizers and less like a product that will make me look like a melted candle. This is actually a shade I can wear when my tan fades. I don’t actually have any winter tinted moisturizers so while I love using this now, I am looking forward to some winter wear with this bae minerals as well. It does wear well now though and I enjoyed it.

As always I love the elf poreless putty primer and the Illamasqua blush is one that I will always reach for. It blends in well and is good for both a natural look and something built up for more drama. I tap my finger on the product and that is all I need for each cheek so this little jar will last a really long time.

I am still getting a handle on the gel sculpt stick. It feels a little wet when applied which is an odd sensation. t is lighter than it looks in the stick and it applies more subtly than I thought it would. I thought it would be bold and dramatic. Instead it applies soft and can be built up. It also blends really well. It is proving really nice for a natural look. I’ll have to try breaking out an actual foundation to give it a try in a less natural look but for now it is working well for me.

My No 7 powder is almost gone. There is a large circle of pan in the center and just a ring of product left. I think I might keep it out this week just to use it up. I don’t think it will last longer than the week. It is a staple in my makeup drawer and has been for years. It is a good powder to finish out a look but it’s chief use is to blot out mid day shine. It does this beautifully and never looks powdery. I am a very big fan. Surprisingly I have very few compacts. I have a lot of loose powders but I just tend to repurchase this as my pressed powder. I may have to do a powder inventory to see what I have once this us used up. But it is one I have repurchased for years and will definitely pick up again.

The imethod brows is now my new standard. I love that stencil. Now that I have found my brow stencil I just put them on and go. It is quite fabulous and I will use this daily unless I am testing out another product.. Even then, the stencils will be used. This is the first time my bows actually look like each other and I am a fan.

Today with the eyeshadow palette I just went for the lighter pink in the palace identity palette. It was a one and done look. I like the pigmentation and it is a nice bas shade for an I don’t want to do much look. it is soft and just enough to make the look finished.

I love so many items from Eyeko. their eyeliners are the ones I always reach for when I wear eyeliner. This mascara is good, but it isn’t my favorite. I actually prefer the Lash Alert. I believe it is a tubing mascara so it is really easy to get dramatically long lashes with that one. This is a good every day mascara though it is just a little less dramatic. Which actually makes it perfect for todays look. And the toned down shadow actually makes it pop a little bit more. I like dramatic lashes, I just don’t like false lashes.

And finally there is the MAC lipstick. I love the formula of MAC Lipstick. It is comfortable to wear and it doesn’t dry me out. And this is a good neutral shade that worked today.

Over all I am pretty pleased with how things turned out. I feel good about how things turned out. Since I now have a handle on the Palace Identity palette I will be switching back to the Lunar Beauty palette, but it was i just couldn’t resist the pretty palette. Plus I needed to watch a few tutorials. So that is me today. It is just me working at my desk today and I will be working later than usual tonight as well. I am glad that today turned out to be a comfortable look I don’t mind wearing a little longer than usual. So now it is back to work for me. Have a great rest of Monday my darlings.

The Daily: July 21st, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. I am feeling much calmer now. My mother made it through her surgery and all of the invasive lump was removed. It will take a week to return results but she is fine and resting. Also in a surprise twist while I was waiting for my mother to come out of surgery, my godfather had to go in unexpectedly for a procedure of his own. he came through that fine as well and is now quietly recovering.

It was quite the day.

Nothing normal was done. Any work I attempted was just pointless. I felt better this morning now that everyone is fine, so I got up early and dove into redoing everything I messed up yesterday. I’ll probably also be working a little later tonight but somedays that is the balance. Yesterday was just not productive.

Which is fine. Life happens and sometimes you just need to roll with it. And truth be told most of my relatives are getting to the age where things happening are a little more frequent. It does make me appreciate the little things like having a normal work day.

I did have one nice and slightly unexpected thing happen yesterday. I heard a thump on my front doorstep and my order from Naturelab Tokyo arrived. They are the ones who make the clarifying scrub I talked about earlier in the week. I ordered a fill size as well as a shampoo and conditioner set. I’ve heard good things about their shampoos and I love the fact that the bottles are refillable (they sell pouches for you to refill the bottle.) Plus the mad scientist in me really likes the science lab like design of the bottles. So I figured I would go ahead and order a set since I was already ordering the scrub (and because it bumped the order into free shipping range).

The surprising part was that I placed the order Monday and it came in Wednesday. I hadn’t even checked the tracking number they sent yet. I think I have just gotten so used to mail taking forever now that I am just stunned when shipping is quick.

And to be honest, I kind of needed the nice surprise. It doesn’t balance everything else but it was a nice little boost.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer

Foundation: Kristopher Buckle Foundation Stick

Bronzer: Illamasqua Gel Sculpt

Blush: Illamasqua gel blusher

Highlight: Illamasqua Beyond Powder Highlight in OMG

Powder: Zeesea Refreshing Silky Powder

Eyeshadow: Zeesea/palace identity eyeshadow Compact

Eyebrows: iMethod Beauty Eyebrow stencil kit

Mascara: Black Magic from Eyeko

Lips: Yensa Super 8 Lip Oil

Today I went pretty Illamasqua Heavy. I started by picking up the contour from the FabFit Fun Box to try out today and then it spiraled into ‘what else do I have from the brand?’ I do have a couple of lipsticks, but I was feeling the Yensa lip oil today. I’m actually going to have to replace it soon as I’ve been feeling like wearing it a lot and there isn’t much left. It is one of my favorite lip oils. It has a slight pigmentation and great shine, but mostly it makes my lips feel fab.

I am kind of glad I went the illamasqua route today because I not only got to use one of my favorite blushes but I remembered I had the primer tucked away in the drawer. I really need to figure out where to put it that isn’t in the drawer. The black top just blends in so i tend to over look it. This Illamasqua primer is a clear jelly like substance. I use the little spoon to scoop out a little and let it melt into my hand. A little is really all you need. The gel goes liquid and then you rub your hands together and apply it like you would a moisturizer. It is wet, but as it dries down it becomes kind of sticky. It will grip makeup like no body’s business. just let it sit for a second to go from wet to sticky and then move onto the foundation.

I went with the Kristopher Buckle foundation stick. It is discontinued and I am trying to use it about once a week to use it up so i don’t hoard it for a rainy day. I love the stick. You can actually feel the primer gripping it when applied which was fun.

The gel blusher and highlight I love and will use until both are empty and then repurchase. Especially that blusher. That has a permanent place in my collection. Today was the first use of the contour though. It is dark enough in the stick that I was concerned. It applies really light though and blends beautifully. It has a cap to keep it from drying out which i appreciate and there is a really nice scent to it. I don’t know what it is but I would love it in a soap or body lotion. even a light body spray. It is sort of fruity and sort of floral. It disappears instantly but I really like it. It is a water based gel and it blends beautifully and feels feather light on the skin. I didn’t try building it up, since this is a first use but I will. I was just relieved it wasn’t far too dark to be honest. I like it and look forward to playing around with it.

The iMethod stencil is now a must have in my makeup bag. I love it and it really simplifies my makeup. The Eyeko Black Magic magic Mascara is good. It isn’t my favorite from the brand, I actually prefer the formula of the Lash Alert, but this is a good everyday mascara.

the Zeesea palette I bought because I wanted to try out the formula of their eyeshadow and because it was just so pretty i couldn’t resist. Today I skipped the coral and went for the two other mattes with a touch of the shimmer. I think the shimmer is going to need a wet brush application, but I really like the other two mattes. I think that playing around will give me some nice softer looks. I went in a bit heavy today. The formula is okay. It isn’t fabulous, at least not as fabulous as the packaging, but it is okay.

I also used the powder compact from the brand. The powder is a little powdery but okay. The packaging is fantastic. I’ll admit, I bought it for looks. when the powder runs out i am going to replace the pan with a pan from a different brand. I just need to find one I like that fits in the compact. I don’t mind using the powder, but I won’t purchase it again. I will however keep the compact.

And so that is me today. A little stressed but otherwise okay. I think that is going to be me until the diagnosis finally comes in. Again though, this is life.
