The Daily: March 29th, 2022

Good afternoon my darlings. Today I am in a much better frame of mind. Things are actually working as they should. Which is nice. Work may be work, but it shouldn’t come with extra road blocks. And while there are no real road blocks today, there is also no sun. It is a cold and dreary looking day outside and I am expecting rain at any moment.

I managed to get a walk in earlier (mostly because rain tends to flood out the walking trail for at least a day or two after the rain passes so I figured I’d get it in while I could. It was a strange walk though. The sky felt very heavy and it felt almost as though something was lurking above me hovering and waiting. I was actually the only one in the park but it felt like I was being watched. I know I wasn’t, because really, there wasn’t anyone there. It was just the sky.

It was the first time though I was happy to end the walk and get back inside. Today’s lunch was another of the Cacao Super Smoothies from Smoothie Box. This time I made it with Almond Milk. It was absolutely delicious, but I fear it may have made it a little too sweet. The almond milk paired with the chocolate and banana made it feel a bit more desert like than I planned. I think I am going to counter balance it with a Chomps Cranberry Habanero Beef Stick as my afternoon snack. It is only 90 calories so it fits well within my afternoon snack range and it is savory enough to counterbalance the sweetness.

I like almond milk but I always forget how sweet it actually is. It isn’t something I notice in cereal or as a dollop in oatmeal. Well actually in Oatmeal I kind of do notice it but it means I add less brown sugar so there it is a plus. I just forget about the sweetness when it is in the smoothies. I think Coconut water or coffee will be my next add in to the Cacao smoothie instead of the almond milk.

Which I know is a little more than you really want to hear about my lunch, so let’s just move on with the day’s makeup shall we?

Today’s look:

Primer: Lorac Light Source 3 in 1 Illuminating Primer

Foundation: Charlotte Tillbury Air Brush Flawless Foundation

Bronzer: Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer

Blush: Illamasqua colour veil gel blusher

Powder: Becca Pink Haze (discontinued)

Eyeshadow: KVD Vegan Beauty Lolita

Mascara: Athr Beauty Big Bang Mascara

Lips: Zoeva Powerful Lip Twist

Today I used the Lorac primer which meant that I did not need a highlight. It is illuminating all on it’s own. For me it needs a matte foundation over it. I ended up using the Charlotte Tillbury, but I think this foundation needs to have a pore filling primer underneath it. i am already starting to see settling into the fine lines around my mouth. Also I did not use the Embryolisse under my makeup today and I can really tell the difference. this foundation feels much drier this afternoon than it has in the past week. That lait-creme as a pre makeup base really makes a difference.

I really like this ciate bronzer. It applies well and blends easily. After fiddling with the Nude Stix I was happy to use something that just works. And of course the more I use the Illamasqua gel blusher the more I like it.

I am still trying to use up the Becca Pink Haze. It did seem a bit more powdery today than usual. I don’t know if that is because it is nearing the end of it’s life or if my skin was just drier than usual. I think it may actually be a combination of both.

I just went for a single shadow which usually means I grab this KVD one, It is a nice color and one that works well for me. The mascara was an issue. I’ve been using it off and on for the past few weeks and it is already starting to feel empty. I think because I use so many layers to achieve the look I want it uses the product up faster. But it really shouldn’t be feeling this empty this fast. I’m going to keep using it, but I think it may not be long for the makeup bag.

And finally I went with the zoeva lip twist. The color is nice and the formula is creamy. The problem is that it is too creamy so it will never hold a point. I have a bit more application control with a traditional bullet lipstick. Despite the nice color, I will be using this up and letting it go.

And that was my makeup look today. It was for the most part quick and easy. I do miss the Embryolisse underneath. This is the final week of me using the moisturizer as my moisturizer for the test and after Friday I am just shifting the rest of the tube over to my makeup drawer as that is where it will do the most good.

But now, it is back to work for me. Have a great Tuesday everyone.

The Daily: October 25th, 2021

Good afternoon my darlings. The weather here has once again turned lovely, although a bit cooler now that the rain has subsided. The waters have receded from the walking trail and I went on a very long walk this morning. It was fantastic.

Last week I started using the Fitbit to track my walks, food and well basic things. This weekend I looked at last week in review, trying to see what I could do better. While I don’t think step trackers are essential for weigh management, they can be helpful tools.

I actually learned something in looking at my measurements from last week. Apparently, my walks burn more calories than I thought they did. Its actually a good thing, but it means some of my basic calculations for calories in/ calories out are a bit askew. This week I am going to try and see if I can get the balance back to my goal intake/output is. As strange as it sounds, if you don’t eat enough then your body kind of locks on to every calorie it can and weight loss slows down. Keeping everything in balance will hopefully help me out in the long run and hopefully make the weight loss more permanent.

At least that is the goal.

It was a quiet weekend here actually. A lot of weekends are here actually. Most of our going out has been curtailed and so we tend to concentrate on working on things around the house. Of course that is also due to the time of year. In the winter we always spend more time in the house so once the weather turns we start looking at making improvements before the winter really sets in. At the moment we are looking at some new sheets and bedding. Usually we end up ordering such things before Thanksgiving and then put them on the bed when we return from Thanks giving travels as our special, let the holidays begin treat to ourselves.

Admittedly we haven’t done that in a while. we started because we had older sheets so we would pick up a new set as we rotated an old one out of use on the bed. Then for a while we had enough newer sheets. So we stopped buying them (obviously). Now we are down to several sets that need to actually be retired from use, so a fresh set is going to be ordered. Once we can decide on the set. Right now we are in the what do you think of these stage where we each look at options and share what we’ve found until there is one we both like.

It’s a process.

Eventually we will end up with a new set of sheets and hopefully a new duvet cover. Ah the things cold weather stirs up. This week we are also airing out blankets and taking inventory.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay’s Optical Illusion Primer

  • Palette madness is still going on with many palettes still 50% off

Foundation: Purlisse BB Cream

Bronzer: Trestique Stick Bronzer

  • now refillable

Blush: bareMinerals Bounce and Blur Blush

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light

Eyeshadow: The Tuscany Palette from Nomad

Lips: Zoeva Lip crayon in Rhea and Tarte Maneater Plumping gloss

Today was the quick and easy look as I planned to spend the bulk of the day working at my computer. And to be fair, beyond my walk, that is where I have been today. And I’ve gotten a lot done actually. I’m actually quite pleased with myself.

The Primer is a discontinued one I am trying to use up and send on it’s way. I am hoping that this will be it’s last week of use, but there is the possibility it might spill into next week.

I love the Purlisse BB Cream formula. It blends beautifully and feels absolutely weightless. It is one of my favorite BB Creams. I know, I have said this a lot. The fact is, it remains true. The Trestique Bronzer and bareminerals blush are quick and easy to use and always work out well for me, so I went with them today. The No 7 Prefect Light powder is actually my favorite pressed powder. I do have several others in my dressing table though so I need to start reaching for them a bit more. Several of them are translucent and in the summertime they give a little too much white to my skin. The No 7 I use is tinted so it sees a lot of use in the summer.

I am still getting a feel for the Man eater gloss but today I layered it over the Zoeva lip crayon. The Zoeva is a little too tan and makes my lips disappear, but it works layered with products. I’m not over the moon with the formula as it is incredibly soft. I plan to use it up and let it go. I won’t be purchasing it or more shades from the line. The jury is still out on the Tarte Plumping gloss.

This Nomad Palette was barely saved from declutter, but I am glad I did save it. The one dark brown shade (Passeggiata) tends to apply patchy but all of the other pans perform quite well. They blend easily and I don’t know if it is the fall tones of the earth shades in the palette, but I find myself wanting to reach for it more right now. So I did.

It was a quick and easy look today and I rather enjoy it. With the exception of the tingling of the plumping gloss (along with it’s slight stickiness), all of the products feel weightless and it is easy to forget that I am wearing makeup at all. Which is not a bad thing as I have other things I’d like to think about when I work. Over all, today was a good selection of products.

The Daily: September 30th, 2021

I have to admit, the weather is just about perfect today. Staying inside is really hard to do so I’ve done very little of it. I woke up this morning and had my coffee on the back porch. It was nice being able to sit down with a hot beverage and not sweat profusely while trying to drink it. while our back porch can be used pretty much from now until spring (with maybe a few weeks mid-winter where it is too cold) In the summer time it is not a space where anyone wants to linger. It is positioned so that for most of the day the sun falls directly onto it. While it does make it usable throughout much of the year because it traps the heat, in the summer it just makes you feel like you are an ant and there is a very naughty little boy with a giant magnifying glass over you. The afternoons are still too warm to spend much time out there, but the mornings are fantastic.

Then of course there was a much longer walk than usual, and yes there will be another much longer walk than usual later this afternoon. It is just too nice to be inside. Plus after the rainy no walk days it is nice to get in a little more exercise. Hopefully the extra walking will show up on the scale tomorrow.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer

Foundation: IPKN Moist and Firm BB Cream

Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil

Blush: Illamasqua Colour Veil Gel Blusher

Highlighter: Jecca Blac Glow Drops

Powder: Ciate London Extraordinary Setting Powder

Eyeshadow: I heart Revolution Maple Glazed Palette

Mascara: The Feathers by Pretty Vulgar

Lips: Zoeva Powerful lip twist in Rhea and Milk Makeup Glow oil Lip and Cheek tint in Astro

Setting Spray: Benefit Cosmetics The Porefessional Super Setter.

Today I went for a more neutral look. I used the last of the IPKN Sample. While I will be looking for other IPKN products in the future, this BB cream had a little too much moisture for my skin so I won’t be picking up the full size.

The Primer is an Urban Decay Primer that has been discontinued so I am trying to use it up and clear it out. While I won’t be using it exclusively, I will be rotating it in frequently so I can use the last of it. I love it so it isn’t a hardship, but it is discontinued so this is a long goodbye.

The Too Faced bronzer is always a good product to use. I actually chose it today because it is very pigmented and I wanted to test it with the Colour Veil. Because I’ve been testing out a BB cream,. I went light on the bronzer and I wanted to see how the gel blush worked with a darker bronze. I still had to go in lightly with the bronzer because it is still a BB cream underneath, but I really liked the way the gel blusher is performing.

The Jecca Blac Glow drops is one of those products I tend to forget I have but then get really excited when I pull it out of the drawer and try it again. I know it can be used as an illumination over all the skin and it does look really lovely under a full coverage matte foundation, but I don’t often wear full coverage foundations so I really like using this as a highlighter. It can make full coverage look a little less mask like though, which I like.

If you saw my review of the IPKN BB cream then you know a powder is essential to tamp down the shin from the moist side of the Moist and firm BB cream. The Ciate London extraordinary powder works well for that. It’s one downfall is that there can be a little white cast if you use flash photography. I don’t use a flash so I don’t worry about it and just enjoy the powder. This container is a little less than half full at this point so I may work on trying to use it up. I have a lot of own powders at this point and rotating through them just means they all seem to last forever. And I think it is time to work on clearing a few out.

I love my little doughnut shaped palette. It is just such a good little palette. The dark brown can apply patchy at first but it blends easily and the patchiness is easily over come. I don’t use a lid primer with it as it tends to just make the patchiness worse. It is not a powdery formula and tends to last the work day. They fade towards the end of the day, but they will generally get you through the work day.

For the lips I went with a combination of the Zoeva and Milk products. As long as I don’t sharpen the Zoeva lip crayon it is fine. The formula is too soft to hold any sort of point. It is also too neutral for me to wear a lone so I layered the milk Glow oil over it to give it a little more color. I rather like the effect.

And then I set the whole thing with a layer of the super fine mist of the Porefessional supper setter. I absolutely love the fine mist and never have to worry about it going splotchy. I do have to stand the bottle up though as it tends to leak around the edges of the bottle.

And that was today’s look. It is neutral enough that it suits the office and now that the heat isn’t as melty, i can actually wear it out and about when I leave the house. And I am definitely leaving the house again today. I have just a little more work to catch up on before I slip outside. I know this evening I may have to work a little later to catch up, but it is so worth it. Besides we really only get a few weeks of really nice fall weather before it is gone. As fabulous as it is Autumn is fleeting. So I feel it is best to make the most of it while it is here. Plus the simple relief from the heat is cause for celebration all on it’s own. So back to work for me and then, I’m making my great escape.

The Daily: September 13th, 2021

Oh the best laid plans…when last we spoke I was enjoying the Annmarie Skincare Charcoal and Cacao Facemask and chopping vegetables in preparation for a delectable Friday night happy hour. But alas it was not to be. I chopped the onions and was reaching for the mushrooms when it was time to remove the mask.

I took my mask off, delighted in the fabulous skin left behind. I wrote up my thoughts for you and returned to the kitchen. My plan was to finish my chopping, caramalize the onions and then add the mushrooms. Once they were all cooked up I was going to add in the coat cheese, let the filling cool and wrap it in puff pastry, cooking until the pastry triangles were crisp.

Unfortunately as I went back for the mushrooms, my phone rang. A little over a year ago my babydoll replaced his car. There was something that needed fixing on it at the time so he didn’t trade it in. He planned to get the issue fixed and then sell it to a friend of his. He got the issue fixed but then his friend kept putting him off. And eventually the deal fell through. Mostly because last year changed a lot of things.

My babydoll decided to hold onto the old car for a little while to figure out what to do with it. Periodically he takes it out to make sure everything is still running appropriately. Friday he realized he hadn’t taken it out in a while and he decided to drive it to work. It was fine going in but apparently the battery died sometime during the day so I had to run out and pick him up. He had a pretty rough day all around and asked if we could just pick up dinner along the way. Which we did.

The chopped onions were used with hash browns on Saturday and This Friday I will try again with the puff pastry triangles. Luckily the rest of the weekend was quiet. More for my babydoll’s sake than mine. Last week was a bit rushed because it was a short week, but his week was calamity after calamity with the cherry on top being the dead battery so he really needed to just collapse for a bit and recharge. I’m hoping he has a much better week this week. As for me I got to catch up on the show Billions. Paramount + has Seasons 1 – 3 streaming until October 4th. I’m trying to get through all three seasons before then, so there will be repeat binge sessions. Besides I needed a bit of a break from horror and murder which seems to be taking up the bulk of my television time lately. I’d worry but as everywhere near me has already started putting out their Halloween decorations I think it might be something in the air. Regardless, Paramount + is now turning into one of my favorite streaming sites (I think it is $4.99 per month. This link will take you there if you want more details)

Today’s Look:

Primer: Glam Glow Supermatify Primer

Foundation: Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation

Bronzer: Ciate Bamboo Bronzer

Blush: Floss Cheek and Lip Tint in Sandals

Highlighter: Jecca Blac Glow Drops in Champagne

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light pressed powder

Eyeshadow: Steve Laurant Wild Thing Palette

Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir

  • Marc Jacobs is just about to wind down their 50% off sale. It ends sometime this week I believe.

Lips: Zoeva Power4ful Lip Twist in Rhea

Setting Spray: The Porefessional Super setter Setting Spray

Okay lets start with the primer. I know what you are thinking. Didn’t Mimsy just do a primer declutter? I don’t think this was mentioned. Good eye. It was not. Because of the bulky packaging this Glam Glow Primer, my Illamasqua Primer and my Stila Primer were moved to a different drawer. I forgot all about them when doing my declutter, so I will use all three this week and cover them here. Today is of course the Glam Glow. I do like this primer. It smells of licorice and it is super mattifying. I actually chose it today because we have something like 97% humidity. Even sitting indoors at my desk, I am bound to get sticky. So today was it’s day to shine. Or at least to keep me from shining. As much as I like this primer, I think I would have to think a while before repurchasing it. The package is bulky and there isn’t a lot of product in it. There is far more package than product. It is nice to have and I will happily use this until it is all gone, but I think because of the amount o0f product in the package, I would only purchase this when it is on sale. It is a great primer, but there just isn’t a lot of product.

The Revolution Fast Base Foundation stick is a definite repurchase. It is an excellent foundation, that doesn’t cost a lot of money and it is perfect for travel as it can’t spill. It can leave the skin looking a tad on the shiny side, so be prepared with a powder. Today’s powder is my long term fave, No 7. Do I need to say I’d repurchase this? Probably not, but I will. This is a staple of my makeup bag and has been already repurchased so many times I have lost count.

The bronzer however is new to me. I have to say I was super excited when this came in the mail the other day. No I don’t have fairies dropping bronzer off at my house. Although really, how cool would that be. The magic makeup fairies… Anyway, no. I ordered it. It was very satisfying to get though. A while back I realized that the only item I didn’t have in my collection from Ciate was a bronzer. I had every other type of product. So I thought, Oh I’ll get the bronzer and then do a full face of Ciate London products, won’t that be fun? So I went to order it. It was out of stock. Then it came back in stock and I forgot I was going to do a whole face of Ciate and thought, I have enough bronzers. So I didn’t order it.

Then I remembered and went to order, and it was out of stock again. There were a couple of other missteps but I finally got around to ordering it and here it is. Of course now I have finished both mascaras from Ciate that I was using and accidentally broke the highlighter. So no full face at the moment. But I’m sure I will at least get a mascara in soon. The Ciate Mascaras are on my reorder list and I’m sure I will reorder before the bronzer runs out. So this was my first use of the bronzer. It was nice actually. I’m sorry it took me so long to order it. The bamboo bronzer is a nice shade for me and is more buildable than highly pigmented. I really like that actually as it keeps me from having to blend out harsh stripes. The shade I am using is South Beach. I really like this first use of the product and I am looking forward to using it for a while. It is also a lovely looking compact to thats always nice too.

There was another new item in my look today and it was the Steve Laurant Wild Thing eyeshadow palette. It is not exactly a new palette. I received it in a subscription box a while ago but I can’t remember ever using it and when I went through the palettes to declutter I couldn’t remember using it. It also looked untouched. So I decided to give it a go this week. This is my first use of it and I can’t say I am all that impressed. For something called Wild Thing, it is incredibly tame. The small two inch square palette would be perfect for slipping into your bag to touch up work makeup. Because this is really a neural office palette, despite the name. This far it isn’t highly pigmented. I’m going to be playing with it this week and I’ll keep ypu poster.

The other kind of new item is the Zoeva Lip Twist. I used it once before. It is extremely sorft and on my first use the point of the lip crayon sheered off. It does have a sharpener on the end, but I decided not to use it and just use the lip crayon with a flat end. This is working pretty well. I think it I were to sharpen it, the point would fall off again and I would just waste product. It is a neutral enough color that it works. I think if this were a bright color than I would have to use a brush to get clean lines, but the neutral works well as it is. It feels a little waxy o0n the lips so I’m not sure if I would order more colors in this formula. It is a nice neutral but I think this may be my only powerful lip twist from Zoeva. I just have many other products I like a lot more.

The last product I really want to mention today is the setting spray. You’ll notice it is not Farsali. That is because I finally finished the Farsali Setting Spray over the weekend and decided to celebrate by reaching for the Benefit Cosmetics. This setting spray has an ultra fine mist and really helps lock in product. The scent is reminiscent of the Porefessional Primer, which I happen to like. But it is a light scent. It is a much lighter scent than the Farsali and was kind of a relief to use. The Farsali was nice, but that scent was too much. I was happy to be able to switch out products once again.

And that was pretty much my makeup for the day. And now that this pleasant interlude is over, I must get back to work. I hope your Monday flows smoothly and easily.

The Daily: August 11th, 2021

Well my darlings, today I avoided the gym and braved the walking trail instead. The reason being the drastic number of increased cases in my area. And the fact that even though my gym has reinstated their masking policy, very few people are following it and it isn’t really being enforced.

Plus I’ve seen how perfunctory some of my fellow gym members are when wiping down equipment. So I decided the walking trail it would be. I went a little before ten this morning and thought, this won’t be too bad.

It kind of was.

I tried to get a few things done before going on the walk and it was a bad idea. I think I am going to have to get up, wash my face, put on sunscreen and go for the walk first thing until I go back to the gym. The heat actually wasn’t that bad but I was soaked by the time I got back to the house. Clothes went directly into the washing machine so they didn’t stink up the closet via the laundry basket. There was an impromptu laundry run post walk. Well post shower actually. I cooled down a bit, took the shower and then ran the laundry. Even though I can’t run the laundry every day I think my walking clothes are going directly into the machine post walk. So we again shuffle the schedule a bit until the numbers drop and the gym gets its act together.

But at least I got the walk in.

Today’s Look:

Primer: Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Face Primer

Foundation: Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation

Bronzer: NARS Bronzer in Laguna Beach

Blush: Billion Dollar Beauty Blush in Amour

Highlighter: Billion Dollar Beauty Highlighter in Mystic

Powder: No 7 Perfect Light Pressed powder

Brows: Billion Dollar Beauty Brow Pomade in Taupe

Mascara: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara

  • still currently on sale

Eyeshadow: RealHer Dreams so Big Eyeshadow Duo paired with Moon Eyeshadow From Billion Dollar Beauty

Lips: Zoeva Powerful Lip Twist in Rhea

Setting Spray: Farsali Rose Gold Facial Spray

Necklace from the Rachel Zoe Collection

I am actually really pleased with the way things turned out today, look wise. I think the neutral look of everything else really should have been paired with a stronger lip, but I wanted to test out the Zoeva Lip Twist. When I did the swatch with the product, the tip bend because it was a really soft formula. Even though I was gentle in applying it, the tip fell completely off within seconds of being touched to my lip. It does have a sharpener on the end, but I didn’t use it. I rolled out the product so a little flat edge was above the tube and used it that way. It applied well in that instance and I think because of the softness of the formula, I will not actually sharpen it. I will just roll up the product a little bit at a time and use it that way. I actually like the color. It is a nude that I can wear without my lips completely disappearing into my face, which is a nice shade to have. If you use this product though, be aware it is very soft. It applies creamy though and lasts for quite a while. It wears off like a moisturized bullet lipstick formula but it doesn’t flake, it doesn’t actually dry down enough to flake. So plan to reapply after lunch.

The second item that is new to me is the eyeshadow Duo from RealHer. The shades are Imagine and Ambition. One is essentially a matte brown and the other a rosy shimmer. I liked how they performed. The matte applied well and blended easily. It did crease a little bit towards the end of the day, but I do have hooded eyes and I didn’t use a lid primer. The shimmer was okay with a dry brush but better with a wet brush. I really like this quad and would definitely consider taking it with me on my travels in place of a larger palette. I would add concealer to my lids before using it again though. I don’t think it needs a full on lid primer, but a little help from concealer might help stop the minor end of day creasing.

I did add a touch of Moon to brighten up the corners. I would add that to the travel bag as well. The Moon Shadow and the Brow Pomade may be my favorite Billion Dollar Beauty Products. actually think the Brow Pomade may be my favorite brow product at the moment. It is in my BDB magnetic palette right now. While I love the palette and frequently use the mirror on it, I think I am going to move the brow pomade out of the kit. I put it too close to the highlighter and now it has a smattering of dust on it. I think that as soon as my NARS sample sized bronzer is empty, I may use that as a single container for the Brow Pomade as it is just the right size for a single pan.

At the moment have a full finger tips worth of pan showing in the NARS. Now that the pan is showing it seems to be going quickly. I don’t know why I find that oddly fulfilling but I do.

The Farsali setting spray is almost to the half way point. It is sparkly, it is in a lovely glass bottle, but I don’t really care for the scent and I don’t think it performs terribly well. It performs well enough that I’ll use it up, but it isn’t something I will repurchase. I think that fact is highlighted more by the fact that every other product I used today is one that I would repurchase. And that includes the so soft Zoeva. Once you accept that the tip will break off and apply with the flat side, it is a good lip product. As is everything else I used today.

Actually I have been trying not to use my No 7 powder so much so that I can clear out some of the other products in my collection. It is hands down my favorite powder, drug store or otherwise. I think part of it is the formula and part of it is that the tones of the Medium really suit my skin tone. The tan may deepen or fade depending on the time of year, but the No 7 goes with the tone of it really well. I just need to work on using up and clearing out some other products.

And because I am trying to mention my jewelry as well, the necklace is from the Rachel Zoe Collection. I picked it up at TJ Maxx actually. I have a weakness for thin chains with a small charm on them. This one was just flashy enough for me. I actually quite like it. And with that, it is back to work for me. I hope the rest of your day is fantastic.

The Make Up Bag: September 25th, 2020

Welcome my darlings once again to the weekly makeup bag post where I discuss everything that I put on my face that wasn’t officially skin care this week. My setting spray as the exception of course. I am still using the HA Spray from Timeless Skincare to set my makeup and quite frankly, I am loving it. It sets my skin and as it is a diluted form of the Hyaluronic Acid Serum (also from Timeless) it is also good for my skin. So bonus points. In all fairness even though I have only one more week on my official trial of the HA Spray, I will probably be using it until it runs out. And there is the possibility I will just replace it. I’m using the cucumber scented one now, but I think I might try the orange scented one next. It has the same properties just a different scent to it. While cucumber is nice and spa like, the orange might be a good ‘hello morning’ scent.

This week there was some excitement in the realm of foundation. I tried a sample of a foundation I forgot I had. My skin did not react so well with it. i got red and itchy. I’m not going to mention the name because I think the red and itchy was more my fault than the brand’s. I did a deep dive into their ingredients list and found nothing in the list that has troubled me before. So I suspect that I just kept it past it’s expiration date and paid the price. Considering I have no idea when or even where I picked up the sample, I’m going with user error on this one. It has produced in me the need for decluttering.

This weekend I will be going through and removing expired products and products that need to be passed on to someone else to use while they are still good. With my foundations, I will be arranging the ones I’m keeping. Those in open trial sizes will be used up first and then I will start rotating through the ones I have open, starting with the summer shades. I have a couple of unopened and untested products in my dressing table, but I think there are only two at the moment and both are winter shades and I know how old each of them is so I am not worried about waiting a few months. So for a while I will be using foundations I have previously tried, which means Thursday will feature a non-foundation post for a while. I’m sure I’ll find more things worth breaking out into a more fulsome review.

Speaking of products I’ve used before, with the foundation debacle, I ended up reaching for the Pretty Vulgar Lava Water Foundation. It is a beautiful bottle and the product inside works just as beautifully on the skin. I really enjoyed getting to use it again this week. even if I hadn’t expected to use it this week.

Pretty Vulgar Cruelty Free Makeup!

The eyeshadow palette this week was the Zoeva Caramel Melange palette and I really enjoyed it. The like will take you to the full review, but the color scheme was right up my alley and the pigments worked well for the way I like to wear them. It is a neutral palette but with enough variation that it wasn’t a boring neutrals palette. Which was very nice.

It did however affect my lipstick choice. While I was determined to use my Clarins Velvet Lip Perfector this week, the other neutral shades I chose to balance it out did not work with this shadow palette. I looked too blahly brown with this neutral palette if I went with a neutral lip. So I snuck my Yensa lip oil in Pink Shine and my Colourpop Disney Villains Evil Queen back for companions for the Clarins. The Yensa is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine as you can tell from the drop in the level of lip oil in the tube.

While the Evil Queen looks like it hasn’t been use much, that is because this is a replacement I purchased when I used up the first tube I bought. What can I say, I love a bold lip. The clarins has been patiently sitting in my makeup bag for two weeks waiting for it’s chance to shine. It simply didn’t go well with the other products. This week it did. The formula is smooth on the lips. Slightly too pink for my personal preferences but that is easily remedied when I wanted to mix. I think I expected more red from the tube color. It goes on smoothly.

The feel of it is a little strange. It is not quite a liquid lipstick and not quite a bullet lipstick in feel. It is like they took a bullet lipstick formula and added a little something to keep it from solidifying into a solid. If you like the precision of a liquid lipstick but prefer the formula of a bullet lipstick, this might be something you want to look into. It is very comfortable to wear but it does wear like a bullet lipstick. You will need to reapply it after eating. It is not like the Clarins Water Lip Stain that lasts for three days. This is not even going to get you through the whole work day. I will say it leaves less lip prints on things than traditional bullet lipsticks so it isn’t quite as messy on the coffee cup rim. Over all I really enjoyed it once I understood what the formula was giving me. It is strange, but it is a good kind of strange. I am often described the same way.

Under my Pretty Vulgar foundation this week I wore the Huda Beauty Complexion Perfection Pre-makeup base as my primer. It has a pump so it is easy to control how much is used. The product smells a bit like an unscented moisturizer and comes out creamy. I had my doubts about it being just a hydrating primer but when I applied it on my face, it melted into the skin so it was invisible and it was incredibly pore filling.

Huda Beauty Exclusive Merch is here! Tote bags, washcloth + headband sets & more, only available at hudabeauty.com.

It gave me a very smooth base on which to work. It is not sticky at all and it doesn’t have that silicon slide that some primers have. The finish on it isn’t matte, but it isn’t glowy or dewy either. It is like the product just says look you want matte look to your foundation and powder, you want glow look to your highlighter, I’m a primer. And that is what it is. It is a primer. It just creates a smooth base. I really liked it. I have respect for products that just do the job for which they were created without trying to add other tasks into the mix. And it does the job well. It created the nice smooth canvas and worked well with my foundation. It did it’s job and I will happily keep it in my dressing table to be used repeatedly in the future.

My powder this week was a repeat of the Becca Pink Haze. I really like the powder (although to be honest I mostly just forgot to change it out. I had no problem using it a second week in a row and will happily bring it out again in the future.

This week I used the Julep concealer. It is far too light a shade to be used as concealer with my current skin tone but it was a fantastic eyelid primer. Since I don’t have any major breakouts that weren’t covered by foundation, I was happy just to use this as my lid primer this week.

My eyeliners this week were two from Pixi and one from Milk. The milk is a light color I love using in my water line and will probably be a staple in my makeup bag for a while as it is one of my few light waterline eyeliners. I really enjoyed the Pixi eyeliners as well. They were creamy and applied smoothly. They faded a little throughout the day but they didn’t smear or run which I appreciated.

Brows saw a return of the Hourglass Pencil. Or maybe the keeping of the Hourglass brow pencil. Like the becca Powder Iforgot it was in there and when I reached in I grabbed it automatically. I like it and it does it’s job well. It has a nice fine point and a great color.

Ciate London was the source of both my blush and mascara this week. The blush is one of my favorite formulas and I have used it before. I still love it, enjoyed using it and will use it again. It is the Marbled Light in Halo. The Mascara was one I hadn’t opened before. It is the Wonder wand Mascara and it was excellent.

It may even join my Bad Gal Bang and Marc Jacobs in the top of the Mimsy Mascara charts. The wand is thick and the lashes were quite nicely thickened and lengthened. I was very impressed. I have a second Ciate London Mascara that is currently unopened sitting in my dressing table. When I do my mascara purge I may have to open it as well and see if it is just as good. Unless it is the same one, in which case I will wait. It is a full sized one so fingers crossed.

My bronzer is still the Nars Laguna Bronxer. It is the sample size that I am committed to using up before I allow myself to purchase the full size. And I will be purchasing the full size which whould tell you how I feel about it.

The highlight was from Illamasqua and came in a Look Fantastic Box I believe. It is gold in tone and I love that I could make it as dramatic as I wanted. If applied with the finger t was an intense gold. If a brush was used it was a sort of golden glow, a kiss from the sun if you will. I was very pleased with it and will look forward to using it again.

The brush I used to apply it was the Fenty Beauty travel brush. The brush worked well but it was annoying having to pull the little metal lid up every time I snapped the lid on. I don’t know what the alternative is, but maybe a locking button. I pinched my finger once when i was in a bit of a rush.

Bdellium Tools’ Newest Brush Collection!

Finally the last of the tools. My 999 Master Blender Foundation brush was well used and still loved this week as is my Huda Beauty Makeup sponge. Alas I did not keep track of my shadow brushes. I will do better next week in figuring out which I used. This way not only will you know but I won’t have to stuff the jar so full and I’ll know which I use. The Context Powder brush was used again this week as you can tell from the pink bristles. It like all of my tools need to be cleaned tomorrow afternoon. Cleaning and purging are the min tasks for the weekend. But before the weekend, there is the rest of the workday, which I must now get to. Later I will rejoin you for the Friday Face mask, but for now, it is paperwork for me.
