As some of you may recall, last week I went a-traveling. i went to see family for Thanksgiving. Since many of my skincare products due to size, shape or container style don’t travel very well, I decided to use this as an excuse to try out some of the sample sized products I had squirreled away. Not only would I get to try them out, but I could save space in my luggage. In addition, i could see if any of the samples were items I wanted to put on my try in a full size list. I used the following items on my trip and continued using them when I got back. My plan is to use them until they are empty and then go back to using other products. I mostly don’t want to put opened and half empty products back into my skin care drawer.
Oh one item you won’t see on the list or in the photos is the Elemis Cleansing balm. I packed a travel size of it (which actually lasts a surprisingly long time). then I left it on the counter instead of packing it. My mom found it and since it will be a while before I see her again I told her she could go ahead and use it (I use a spoon to take it out so my fingers never touch the surface). She was thrilled and now I think the cleansing balm is on her list of products to purchase. As it is one that I have purchased several times, I can only agree.

There were a lot of highly scented products in this week’s line up. The Tatcha cleanser has that Tatcha scent. It is slightly floral with a hint of fruit. I personally like the scent but it is somewhat intense. I find it a pleasant and clean scent. If you are sensitive to scent though, this might be one to avoid. The cleanse was really nice. The cleanser applies almost like a cream to damp skin, then foams as you start to wash it off. I like it because you can definately tell you have washed all of your face.
My toner pads with the Thayers had very little makeup left behind on them. I like Thayers and I do tend to get the Rose Petal toner. It has a light whiff of rose that is quickly gone. The main point of the scent is to counteract the witch hazel scent of the toner. Personally when traveling, I really like witch hazel. It calms down any irritation my skin might end up with from things encountered while traveling, from pets to different laundry soap. while i don’t get actual allergic reactions, just the changes can give me slight irritations the first day i arrive so witch hazel is a good thing. This toner was too.
I can’t say the same for the essence. while the Raw sauce works as well as any other essence, at least as far as I can figure out. It is so heavily perfumed that I felt like I was splashing perfume on my face. It works well and my skin wasn’t irritated. I am going to try to use it in this upcoming week as I finish out the travel products, but i don’t honestly know if i can get past the scent to use up the entire bottle of product. It is just so intense a perfume scent that I just don’t know if I can take it.
The Filorga too is rather highly scented, although after the Raw sauce it didn’t seem quite that intense. It is a very thin serum and it made my skin feel somewhat sticky. I’ll continue using it to finish out the sample, But i don’t think that this is going to be and item I purchase to try out in the full size.
I did like the Hey Honey Look into my eyes Eye mask. It hydrated well and didn’t clog any pores. Bith very good things. One week isn’t enough to see any major differences, But I am most certainly willing to keep using it and see how it performs. It is an eye cream so there is even the possibility it will last an entire month, so we will have to see if there actually are any visible results after thirty days. I took a picture when I started and if it lasts a month I’ll take another one and do a photo comparison.
Elemis as always worked well for me. It is a scented moisturizer, so if you are sensitive to scents then you might want to give this a pass. It has that light skin care floral that a lot of Elemis products have. I personally like it and I really loved the weight of this day cream. It was just right for my skin right now and I will gladly finish every last drop.
And finally we end the day time line up with the Sunday Riley sunscreen. It goes on well and blends in with no white cast. In general it performs well. There is a scent to it and it is vaguely medicinal. Oddly enough it smells a bit like watered down Vick’s vapor rub. Which is not my favorite scent. The scent is not strong however and I generally found that as long as I didn’t put the sunscreen directly under my nose, I was fine. I know, deliberately skipping a part of your face when applying sunscreen isn’t the best idea. My saving grace was that I didn’t spend a lot of time outside. there is only a little left and I will be using it up. As nice as it applied, I am not sure I would repurchase it. I think it is one of those products I would use if I received it in a subscription box, but I might not purchase it on my own. However, this is a small sample. It does apply well enough that there is the possibility that I might grow used to the scent and not mind it so much. I should have enough to get me through this week, so I’ll perhaps hold off on a final call until next Friday as far as full sized purchases go.
The Night Time Line Up
Cleanser: Tatcha The Rice Wash
Essence: Raw Sauce from May Coop
Eye Cream: Hey Honey Look into my Eyes Eye Mask
Moisturizer: Goldfaden MD Wake Up Call Overnight Moisturizer
There were only two differences between the day and night time line ups in my travel skin care. At night I switched out the serum and the moisturizer. The Serum I used was the bareMinerals Ageless. I have used various makeup products from the brand for years, but I don’t think I have ever tried out any of their skin care. while one week isn’t long enough to determine any major changes, I did like the way this serum felt on my skin. There is a light scent that just smells like skin care. And after the highly scented products in the rest of the line up, the scent barely registered at all. In fact to tell it even had a scent, i had to take it out of the bathroom and try it on my arm to see if I could smell anything. it is a very light scent. I enjoyed this week of use and intend to use the entire bottle. It isn’t a large sample so I don’t think I’ll see results by the end of it, but with the way it feels on the skin, I would be tempted to try out a full sized bottle of this serum.
Goldfadden MD and I have had a rocky relationship. In general I am not a fan. However I really enjoyed using this moisturizer. It was the perfect weight night cream for me. It wasn’t heavy or greasy. It didn’t clog my pores and it had no heavy scent. it too has a light cent. the scent is almost citrus-y. not like it has citrus in it, but more like there was a bag of limes stored next to the bottle at some point. I think I was more impressed by this moisturizer than usual because I really didn’t expect to like it at all. But for me this night cream was a definite winner. I will be using the last of this tube and certainly put it on the list of products to try out in the full size.
This week was an interesting one where skincare was concerned. all were sample sizes, a couple of which I tried before but most were new to me. There were some winners, some as yet to be determined and a couple of flops. Most of these products won’t make it through the week and will be replaced, a couple will survive until next Friday. I have to say I really enjoyed having a full face of samples. It made for a nice change and a much lighter travel bag.
